I absolutely love ggsts cast of big bodies. I love Nago, Goldie, and Pot from the bottom of my heart.

My favorite part of playing guilty gear with my brother is doing character voices and making up factually incorrect lore

My favorite bits:

- Happy Chaos only brings 6 bullets to every fight because none of his clothes have any pockets so that’s all he can fit in his gun

- he also listens to Nickelback and if no one stops him he’s gonna replace the soundtrack to the next guilty gear game with their phlegmy alt-rock

- Asuka B# (pronounced B sharp) invented pop-up books and discovered the Higgs Boson, which was a vital part of creating the Guilty Gear

- The Guilty Gear was a literal gear made out of Higgs Bosons. It’s intended purpose was to absorb all the sins of humanity and get everyone into heaven, but it was eaten by a goat so everyone blames that goat for the downfall of society (this is what the “mankind knew” thing before every match is about)

- Testament’s scythe is a JoJo’s stand called “100 Gecs” that strips you of your pronouns

- Faust is Leonardo DiCaprio who got blackout drunk at the Titanic cast party and has been running around as a bag doctor for like 50 years

— The Leo in every movie since 1997 is a clone. The film studios keep clones of all the big name actors in coffins hidden in Area 51. Goldlewis’s coffin has Benedict Cumberbatch’s clone in it

- “Dog Kick! Dog Kick! Dog Kick!” “Giovanna you really need to find something else to call that move it doesn’t sound good”

Compling all my Guilty Gear headcanons into one place

Most of these are actually headcanons friends had first but I've just incorperated them into my belief system. Under the cut cause this gets long.

LGBT+ Headcanons

Sol Badguy is a Butch Lesbian. No I will not explain why.

Ky is Genderfluid. I will stand by this till the day I die.

Dizzy is Pansexual! She loves her partner no matter what gender they currently are!

Slayer is the Token CisHet, because it is funny. Fruitest Vampire you've ever met and he's actually happily living with his wife, everyone else is some form of queer.

Genderqueer Izuna. Nuff said. He/She pronouns for them

On another Izuna note he's a man kisser. You cannot tell me she was born from the love a woman had for her husband and think he's anything but. Gay little fox thang.

The ending where Baiken just forsake all form of gender is forever iconic to me they are the nonbinary samurai in that one joke now.

Aromantic Johnny will forever be iconic to me. Just big brin genius play honestly. (He's also like Pansexual)

On the other side of the spectrum we have Asexual Nagoriyuki!

Also AroAce Potemkin. Feels right considering his reaction to Magnum Wedding.

Mana Sickness. If you use too much Mana too fast there are repercusion!

Healing magic is a VOLITILE LITTLE FUCKING! It can fuck you up! (Aka what we think happened with Asuka's wing eye thing)

Idk how canon this is in particular but different people have different mana caps and magic affinity levels (Example: Johnny has piss poor magic affinity which is why he only knows like 4 spells top)

My Rankings of the Guilty Gear Strive Cast: Contextualized as Hell Edition (In No Particular Order)

Given the previous tier list where I didn't have many opinions on some of them, I have read the wikis, watched some videos, and have done my due diligence. Note how I didn't say I disliked any of them as the writing for this franchise is superb.

I believe that I have at least made a valiant attempt to atone for my previous sins, so I make this in good faith and genuine appreciation! I will ask again not to be stoned but this time, I can dodge. Friendly conversation, however, is more than welcome.

They're Alright -

Ky Kiske: Firstly, I don't hate him at all. I just need him to apologize to his son because what in the Catholic guilt is his name? Really man? Really? He was really going through it, huh. The character arc of him being able to recognize this and make active steps to fix it is quite nice and I hope he succeeds for his sake.

Faust: His backstory is tragic in the way that it wasn't even his fault. The rampage after he snapped? Sure, he can take responsibility and atone for that, but the event itself that caused it? Entirely out of his hands. His character of seeking out truth over most other things and circumstances is also admirable.

Goldlewis Dickinson: From what I understand, he's a relatively new character on the scene and there's not as much stuff on him as for some others. However, I will give him this: he's the level of delusional about cryptids that you can chuckle at, but if he ever wants to go private in his business, it wouldn't surprise me.

Bedman (?): I am a simple person with simple likes and dislikes. It is heavily implied that Bedman (?) in his current state is precisely because of Delilah and the disjointed scrambling of the inner workings as a result. The story as to why hurts me and fuels the kind of emotion in me that reminds me that I'm a human being.

Asuka R. Kreutz: Oh brother... where do I even start? Not only is he the reason that this entire story exists as it is, but he's also trying to fix it... because he's (rightfully) guilty over what he's done. What the hell? Like, what the actual hell, man? I am genuinely befuddled by this man and the real kicker is that so is everyone else. And apparently, he's on the moon now. Absolutely insane to me.

These Guys Are Pretty Neat -

Sol Badguy: It continues to baffle me how he was apparently a man of science at one point in his life and also responsible for a good chunk of the cast implicitly. If there is anyone in this story who deserves a break, it's him, but unfortunately as the protagonist, that is a luxury that he cannot afford.

May: If I ticked her off, I would run. What business does she have slugging around an anchor like it's nothing? Also, I completely understand her deal with Johnny, but the instant she understands how he sees her, I don't know how she'll cope. Maybe she'll get it when it happens. Great personality though.

Zato-One: I've got one word for his backstory and entire deal: Jesus. So yeah, he and Eddie are pretty neat. I don't know what else to say. If I think any more about it, I don't know if I'll have the strength to go on.

Leo Whitefang: The trope of the loud boisterous personality hiding a bunch of self-flagellation and self-criticism due to heavy responsibilities and realizations is one that I have always been a sucker for. And how he thinks about it? Another part of why I think he's pretty neat. So sue me, I have distinct types.

I-No: She has a pretty abrasive personality and after reading her voice lines, I have to begrudgingly give credit where it is due. Some of those double entendes are pretty damn clever. I will also argue that she was never even given a proper chance in the first place, so she is warranted to pop off like she did. She also scares me. Do with that what you will.

Johnny: The man, the myth, the legend... and apparently the golden-hearted. Somewhat. The man's a womanizer, but he also takes some girls in for arguably decent reasons given the absolute state of the world at that time. And quite frankly, the unexaggerated swagger of the gambler is a favorite of mine.

Quite Likable and Mostly Enjoyable -

Axl Low: From what I've seen, this is a man that is simply trying his best with the somewhat shitty hand of cards that he has been given and somehow, he has not turned into a shitty person because of it. From what I've found, at least he got his happy ending with the person he loves the most, and that's enough for me.

Potemkin: I despair for Potemkin because he does not despair for himself. (A bomb collar? A fucking bomb collar? What the fuck?) He believes, but he also knows how hollow it is sometimes. He's a gentle giant who was forced into this whole thing and while he's taking it in stride... it hurts. It hurts.

Millia Rage: For starters, there are a lot of victims of the Crusades and I'm very glad that the story has shown how this can affect some of the characters in certain ways. Millia's ultimate choice of choosing a sense of inner peace (as well as herself) and sticking with her ideals resonates deeply with me.

Anji Mito: Anji is like me in certain ways, as I too have poked around in different places trying to find answers in ways that some people would call my methodology 'unorthodox'. However, my favorite thing about him is that he's also quite 'inconsistent' in the sense that his intuition and emotions have gotten him into less-than-desirable situations with those he cares about. He makes it work, but it's a breath of fresh air to me.

Bridget: I will say that while not parallel, the war within and the disassociation she felt on a somewhat regular basis is extremely relatable because I went through an experience like that. I also appreciate the self-discovery that has taken place within her arcs as well as how she seems to have finally rediscovered herself. It's nice to see.

Elphelt Valentine: There is an undeniable charm in the purposeful and genuinely authentic exaggeration of one's personality traits to the point of cartoonish and almost comical lunacy. There was going to be a pick like this for purely personal reasons as for taste at some point. I find her absolutely adorable with those antics. However... what the hell happened to her first husband?

Queen Dizzy: She has every right to hate people, but she is a ray of sunshine and genuinely? I would have tea with her. Period. She deserves everything that is good and kind in this world and more. Ky may have made their marriage public, but (in my mind) he has a lot more work to do to make up for a good chunk of what happened to her.

Cool to Me and in Their Own Rights -

Chipp Zanuff: I really know how to pick them, huh. For all intents and purposes, this man is in the wrong genre. Put him in a shounen and he will rise above some of the current game in that sphere. But here? Nah. Regardless of that, I find his attitude to be one that inspires people to not only do better but to find themselves at a higher station. Is the way he goes about it completely half-baked and hare-brained? Arguably. But is he trying? Yes. He's cool in my book.

Ramlethal Valentine: If all it took for her to say 'you know, people aren't really that bad' was taking a bite into a fast-food chain burger —that probably started off frozen and was made with some of the cheapest things that the chain could get away with— and immensely enjoying it, then clearly, she is going in this tier. I am also excited to see her live as a person and not a weapon. She rocks.

Giovanna: Alright, alright, it was the dog okay? It's the dog. That's why she's here. That's why she's in the tier. It's not because of her attitude about how other people think of her conduct, it's not because of how unapologetic she is about what she wants, it's not because of the potential backstory and lore, and it's definitely not because of how sick her entire movesets are in game.

Jack-O' Valentine: I could go into her backstory, I could gush about how adorable she is, and I could even profess my admiration for her zeal for life but... I find that I really don't need to justify this one. Besides, this says everything I want to already:

Sin Kiske: My boy, I know you were holding back when you called your father a 'shitty king' and I don't blame you at all but he needs to hear it all. However, this ain't about him, so I will say that Sin is a better person than me. If Chipp is fueled by determination, then Sin is fueled by unrelenting optimism and genuine empathy for everyone he meets. Even with the strained relationship with his father, he's still open and willing to have it work out! Sin, don't let the world snuff that out. It's a good thing to have.

Slayer: I love seeing married characters knocking it out of the park with the combination of an eternal lifespan, a lovely doting wife, plenty of projects and interests to speak of, and god-class powers in their own rights. Slayer ticks off all of those boxes, not to mention how fun he is... and surprisingly? I don't really mind him being a vampire. I would love to chat it up with him and Sharon over tea sometime.

Undisputed Favorites -

Nagoriyuki: Finally, some proper goddamn adaptation of Yasuke in the 2020s that isn't some sort of caricature or badly executed take, and this time, he has an inner struggle within him as someone out of time and fighting his urges to stay true to his beliefs and ideals. It certainly doesn't help that his disposition is rather calm and composed. Did I mention that he's a vampire samurai? I feel like that's also very important. So yeah, one of my favorites!

Happy Chaos: Folks, please understand that this man has had me passively gripped by the throat ever since he was released. He was going to be here regardless of what I've learned about him, and what I have learned is that the man at his core is hilarious. There's a difference between characters that 'instigate' in ways that hurt others in some sort of subtle and a man who genuinely fucks around and finds out with pleasure, and I am glad to say that Happy Chaos is the latter.

Baiken: To start off, I-No scares me, but Baiken terrifies me. I would not want to be on a bounty, I would not want to be within her living radius, I would not want to be around her when she's pissed off. This is a woman who has nothing to lose and virtually everything to gain. This is not to say that I dislike her though, quite the contrary actually! She has easily one of the most conclusive and well-done development arcs I've seen for a character ever and to be frank with you, I would love to see where she goes from here.

Testament: Testament fucking rocks. Now this is a character that I can relate to heavily. Testament has been through the highs and lows of the uniquely human experience and despite becoming a Gear and loathing humanity, has somehow managed to circle back to precisely what that is. They are everything I want to be in how I pursue my interests, treat others, and simply live life while also confronting the past and making peace with it. 'Testament' is quite apt of a name, if I say so myself.

A.B.A: Too many people are afraid of genuinely unhealthy, unhinged, and unwell women. I am not one of those people. Her entire isolation from birth aside, there is something admirable about her relationships with others. While it is not perfect nor seamless in execution, there are attempts made to not only have other meaningful attachments to others but to also improve her own very warped relationship with Paracelsus. The both of them have agreed to try and have committed to attempting it together, and this gives me a strange sense of hope in how perhaps I can do the same for myself.

Conclusion -

I've said it before and I'll say it again: You guys have something really special with the Guilty Gear franchise. The characters are a breath of fresh air in comparison to some of my other experiences, and the way that they are weaved and accentuated with music, art, and the care poured into them by their creator is nothing short of beautiful to me.

And to believe that this is a fighting game! Crazy. Anyway, like I've said, any and all friendly discussion is encouraged. I'm more than down to hear it.

gg characters ranked based on how insufferable they would be during a 6 hour drive with you

Goldlewis: IDEAL. He drives the whole way, hes a good driver, he has the whole route planned out including stops, pays for the gas and snacks, he has good taste in music, hes quiet if I want quiet and hes chatty when I want to chat. He would keep his coffin in the trunk but his UMA gets lonely so it chills in the backseat, giving us our snacks (half eaten) or pulling my hair occasionally

Sol: quiet mostly but gets road rage when theres traffic. Insists on driving the entire time. Plays Queen loud as fuck the whole way. Gets grumpy when he has to stop so I can use the bathroom. Still A tier.

Dizzy: We take turns. She offers to drive the whole way but i say no because I dont want to put that on her. She is calming and extremely easy to talk to and makes the time fly by. Will be annoying when she wants to play I Spy or sing a stupid sing along sonc but I'll do it anyway to make her happy.

May: Cant drive but is entertaining enough to make up for it. She buys a whole shelf's worth of chips with Johnnys money. We chat the whole time and shes alright for the most part but when she gets really annoying i turn the radio on and we sing to whatever song that comes on.

Ramlethal: quiet at first but asks a lot of questions about what she sees outside as we drive along. Generally nice and cordial. Also cant drive.

Sin: cant drive but again his silliness makes up for it. At the gas stations he buys as much as May but he makes me pay for it so hes lower on the list.

Potemkin: Would want to drive the whole way but cant drive without breaking the wheel or pedals. Asks how work/school is going and its SUPER awkward at first but he imparts some life lessons and its generally a good time.

Anji: Would switch off with me. Really good driver and makes great time. Pays for my gas and snacks. Gets annoying and flirty the longer the trip goes on to the point where im a little uncomfortable.

Millia: Would drive the whole time. Quiet but nice when she does speak. I feel like she would have shit taste in music though.

Bridget: Usually nice and fun but shes actually quiet here. Has her headphones on and is looking out the window most of the time. Doesnt drive. Roger gets us kicked out of any gas stations we go to.

Faust: Also looking out the window the whole time. Tries to chat at first but quickly runs out of energy. Offers to take turns driving but i decline because of safety concerns. Summons snacks so i dont have to buy them and we feast the whole ride.

Elphelt: Would be pretty annoying at first but she has great taste in music and we talk about metal the whole time. Cant drive but offers to anyway.

Bedman?: I put him in the trunk and he deactivates for 6 hours

Nagoriyuki: Makes small talk and tries to be friendly but nothing lands. Cant drive but silently judges my driving skills anyways. Tries to pay for my gas but doesnt end up doing it because no gas station takes his 600 year old coins.

Chipp: We take turns driving. Only plays anime intros and gets upset if I change it. Will pay for snacks if they have pocky but not for gas. I let him tell me about anime the whole time but im white-knuckling the wheel.

Testament: Will pay for gas and snacks. They can drive (they even have a CDL) but gently ask me to drive because they dont really like to. I do it but I dont let them know how annoyed I am. Prefers no music in the car and asks bizarrely invasive questions the whole time. Generally nice just hard for me to talk to.

Johnny: I made him drive and he does so without question but thats about the only good part

Slayer: Makes me drive and gives me 'critique' the whole time. Doesnt pay for gas, but not out of rudeness, only because he forgets it costs money. Will backhandedly compliment me on how humble I am for driving such a shitty car. If Sharon comes with us he lets her sit in the passenger seat.

Giovanna: Makes me drive and complains the whole time. The WHOLE time.

ABA: Will want to stop every ten minutes to look at stores or attractions or a cow or a cool plant. I try to say no but she grabs the steering wheel out of my hands because she doesnt really understand how cars work yet. Sits in the backseat with Paracelsus on her lap. Accidentally smashes one of my windows when she tries to take him out.

Zato-1: Zato is completely and utterly silent. Eddie is opening and closing the car doors like Five Nights at Freddy's. I get most of the way there before Eddie possesses the driver in car next to me and we crash and die.

Leo: Im having a headache just thinking about this one sorry

Baiken: Cant drive but does anyway. HORRIBLE road rage and is a little tipsy as well. We get there in one piece but I will be arrested later for reckless driving.

I-No: Would leave me and fly away on her broom thing

Sol and Leo will be top 5 even after the bombs fall and we are draped in the ash of nuclear winter.

Annon-Guy: How's Queen Dizzy and the Battle Patch Update?

Will get back to everyone on Queen Dizzy later, but for now I'll give a brief synopsis of the Battle Update (notes here by the way).

The strongest differences I felt were with Chipp, Potemkin, Axl, and Ramlethal. Everyone else seems to agree with my playing habits.

And actually Axl felt stronger than I used to play him.

Chipp's "Tightrope" feels strange to me (especially the auto-run aspect of it). Will probably take a while to get used to it.

Potemkin's biggest change is Heavenly Potemkin Buster input change, while that will probably irk some of us older players, in much the same way Accent Core Plus R changed a few inputs from older versions, this will just take some getting used to.

Ramlethal feels... well... she feels more in line with how I remember her playing in Xrd to some degree, which is to say I was never that great at using that style... and sadly she has no fast way to recover her swords in Training Mode, so position reset is your friend in this instance. She has a lot of variation in her move kit now, but at the same time it feels like they don't want you to switch to one sword style or to even use the swords as projectiles.

Oh yeah, and for Sol... biggest change is Fafnir... it combos with a lot of normals now, so it's great for combos... unfortunately they also dialed back Bandit Bringer's wall-break value as part of those combos, so my old style in Strive has to be somewhat adjusted... on the other hand, Vortex seems to be more useful in fights for Sol at close range combos. The Clean Hit system is back to a greater degree, which lets Sol get away with some Slayer-like cheese.

Most of what I did with other characters didn't feel that different, but I could already feel the "rust" since I haven't played in earnest for a while (busy with other games).

There seems to be a strong emphasis on "getting in close" and "starting juggle combos off a sweep", or at least that's the vibe I get.

I feel about as "alien" to this patch update as I did to the Plus R update a while ago... and I can't really say if things will stay the same by the time we get Venom, Unika, and Lucy.

I think the character who stood out the most though was Goldlewis... he feels very fun now, with the new Behemoth Typhoon Cancel at his disposal. Still have to play smart with him, though.

This is only gonna be the big big stuff, not every patch note, I'll link it at the bottom.

Sol! Sol got a defense increase! Fuck! He can cancel into night raid vortex now, but it does slightly less damage and actually decelerates as time goes on. Fully charged does more damage though, and it only gives an HKD on full charge, and has a generally lower launch. Fafnir can also be cancelled into, and has a wallbouncing clean hit property, but it no longer guard crushes. HMC now costs 100 meter, but can be cancelled and comboed into, has less startup, and does more damage, and more importantly *more minimum damage.*

Okay wait this post is gonna be a fucking mess as of now. EVERY CHARACTER appears to get a defense increase. what. what the fuck. what??? okay.

Those upholding the holy Axl banner I am sorry but they seem to have left Axl in a worse position. Rensen is now a 214 input and "can be cancelled into one vision" (okay????? you can get some extra pressure ig?) and he got a general damage increase... which is going to be mitigated by the defense increase...

However. It breaks my heart to say this. They shot my man in the fucking head. Rainwater no longer vacuums. Axl is NERFED. Genuinely. It's not more plus or anything. You might be able to 5P > Rensen > One Vision for something but... Holy fuck...

POTEMKIN CAN NO LONGER KARA CANCEL ARE YOU FOR FUCKING REAL ARCSYS. FUCK YOU. Pot Buster has increased range and armor to COMPENSATE. Hammer fall break also has armor??? And. Are you ready. They GAVE HIM BLUE WILD ASSAULT. 50/50S WITH AN ARMORED POT BUSTER AFTER ANY SITUATION.

Faust can hit his own items better, and can throw his items closer to himself after he eats it. Cool.

Millia can use normals out of air backdash sooner now. Whatever.

Zato command grab refills Eddie, and his frame data was slightly improved.

Ram is... In a strange spot. Sword throw now guard crushes, but S Throw is COMPLETELY GONE. It's now diagonal. Ram can't pick up her swords and has to wait now, which is fucking huge. Flip is now an overhead but will whiff at the wrong ranges on crouchers. Sabrobato can be cancelled into. Erarlumo dash cancels are gone, but erarlumo is safer now. Calvados is now a two sword exclusive move! Insane!

Leo can cancel his backturn dash into attacks. nsbdjshvwue

Nago can no longer combo off of 623HH. Even with Roman cancel. It sounds like 6K is a stagger always now, and retains momentum on cancel? Also his 5H and 2H now guard crush but they can't be cancelled into special moves anymore. Fucking. What. What. The. Fuck. Oh, and Zansetsu sets his HP to 1 on activation.

Gio gets better whiff punishes. And a better enhanced sepultra. Enhanced trovao no longer guard crushes so it's fucking useless now ig.

Anji now can cancel charged Fujin into anything he wants, including another Fujin. Parry is immune to crossups too now.

Okay, so. ArcSys just hates non strike throw mix-ups ig? Rin is *also* unextendable on hit, even with Roman cancel.

Goldlewis can cancel certain BTs into each other using security meter. The meter charges worse now I think. Skyfish now hits like 60 times ig? You expend security meter to fire it and it gets buffs the more you spend, which is cool ig. The BTs got a fucking laundry list of changes that I'm too tired to try and comprehend rn I'll make a post later when the update comes out.

Um holy shit baiken parry is a guard cancel now. Insane. Its basically a meterless YRC. INSANE.

Sin is very interesting. He now has to spend more stamina to be good, and gets guard crush on a lot of his followups, but it refills slower so he can. Y'know. Actually realistically run out of it. Also cancelling into either RTL or tyrant barrel costs a bar of stamina now.

ABA can no longer do her stupid fucking dashblock thing!!!! It immediately halts her momentum now! Her jump kick is more minus now!!! Thank fuck!!!

Slayer is... Interesting. He got a guts modifier decrease. He did get nerfed. Kinda. P Mappa now has longer recovery. 2H now has longer recovery (it better be a fucking *lot*) but importantly, supper mappa hunch isn't startup invincible anymore. Its basically Johnny card super now. Nice. Remove the clean hit bullshit it gets.
