Laguz and Thurisaz

Your intuition is telling you something, and it is pricking on your side just enough to make things interesting.

Remember, not all change happens smoothly, not all waterflow is a river. Sometimes it is a storm, breaking everything in your path and cleaning it up for the new.

Just like Loki and Thor, this two runes together are quite a contradictory pair. Movement and steadiness. Change and conviction.

Sometimes the only way forward is to destroy the path behind. Trust your inner voice, stand your ground on what matters but don't be afraid of changing, of moving, of creating and destroying. Ouroboros. 🐍

2. Wooden

Ingwaz and Nauthiz (reversed)

Things are going good, right? Feels like you finally see fertility in the long run, the productivity and potential. But again, here we also see Nauthiz in reverse - needs, denied. Is this really what you wanted? What you desired? Or was this harvest a reflection of obligations, of past needs that don't make sense to you anymore, so you feel frustrated because it doesn't feel so good as it should? You are not ungrateful just... something is not quite right, right?

Rest, seeds take time to grow. Frustration won't make anything easier. Take your time and reflect on what you are neglecting yourself, it's time to tend to that, sow that harvest.

Fehu reversed

Now, now bestie...what are you afraid of? Fehu, the first rune of the Aett, is deeply connected with riches (material or not) and a flow of abundance - when it is reversed it usually signifies that this flow is being interrupted, most likely due a chokehold of fear.

Bestie, sweetie, prettiest belle of the ball... I know we cling to things we are afraid to lose, but sometimes if we hold to it strong enough we'll just kill it, you know? Trust me, i'm a Taurus, i'll let go of my convictions over my dead body (Loki's note: "Believe me, I've seen it"). But hey, sometimes if we don't let go, we die too.

Take a moment to evaluate what you are being so greedy about (in a lack of a better word), and why is that. Is the root of this feeling some insecurity? Maybe a false sense of security?

Life flows, fighting against it will only exhaust you. Be mindful of your actions, but don't let fear stop you. ✨

Nauthiz reversed

Necessity. Not only physical, but of the soul... How tired are you, dear? The reversed position may indicate frustrations to a point of burn out - yes, the exact same burn out we so much overlook. YOUR NEEDS MATTER TOO. You might be overlooking yourself due struggles or challenges you might be facing but that's not the way to do it sweetie. No one can run on empty for long. Be patient with yourself, we all need kindness and recovery - it's okay, baby bird.

Now repeat after me: MY NEEDS ARE NOT A LUXURY. I DESERVE REST, LOVE AND KINDNESS. I AM DOING MY BEST.

Kenaz

...or as I say, Loki saying hello (and the only upright rune at this reading - clearly him messing around after him, himself, having suggested using the 3 different sets)

Kennaz is the torch, the primordial fire that burns undisturbed, it represents the fire of creativity, the divine inspiration and the fires of a blacksmith working his weapons. Fire creates, fire modifies and fire kills, but fire also guides through darkness.

This rune is a symbol of enlightenment and creativity and tells us to look - really look - to ourselves, our goals and our situation. Is it good? Great, nurture it. It is not what you want it? Set it on fire and start anew (NOT LITERALLY, PLEASE!!!!). Do you feel lost? use your inner fire to guide your path, find your way, discover new truths... fears are but shadows not yet seen to light.

But remember, as the fire both creates and destroys enlightenment also requires sacrifice, knowledge comes at a price. The light will show you the way but it's up to you to follow it. 🔥

In Heathenry, upholding oaths are of the utmost importance. When you fulfill your oaths (or promises), you build your luck and strengthen the wyrd and bonds you share with all those who witness you fulfill that oath. That means the connections you make through that action will better serve you down the line. It means that certain opportunities that may have otherwise been hidden from you will become more visible and accessible to you. Oaths are not meant to be fulfilled in an entirely selfish manner, but it is certainly advantageous to do so.

Now more than ever, it is important to strengthen our bonds with others and build our luck. Connections built on trust, honor, and right action are powerful. They make some many things possible. This week is a time to really hone in on how you're upholding your end of your deals and making sure you really follow through. It could look like upholding your oath of employment and doing your job well, leaving out a regularly scheduled offering (maybe even one you forgot to leave out last week), or doing something for a friend that you promised to do (even if you get to the day of and don't feel like leaving the house). Follow through. Be there for the people you have promised to be there for, even when it's hard. When you are there for them, they are there for you.

Conversely, if others are not upholding their oaths to you, you owe them nothing. It is up to them to repair any damage they caused, and you are well within your right to demand weregild (compensation). (However, if pursuing that would create more problems than it is worth, simply walk away with the knowledge that they are not worth your precious energy.) Your wyrd is better strengthened with others and your luck best accumulated elsewhere.

In either case, stay strong and steadfast in your principles and self-respect.

Good morning! This week's rune is Thurisaz.

As you can see, this pull is a bit more complicated. Thurisaz was actually turned to the side, and technically, there isn't a standard meaning for that orientation. In a casting, this rune would be read intuitively in conjunction with other runes in the casting. In this case, I moved the rune in the direction that felt most natural intuitively, but the original orientation will be discussed.

And while I ramble, you guys are waiting for a reading. So...

Thurisaz is associated with defense, protection, good luck, chaos, lightning, breakthroughs, conflict, enthusiasm, and self-empowerment. Since, in this case, the thorn (one of the translations/meanings of the rune's name is thorn), was initially pointed toward us, one the implications is a warning that someone intends to act aggressively toward you (the aggression may not necessarily be physical -- this could mean a verbal confrontation). For some, Thurisaz is implying that some key breakthroughs are coming, but the context might be a bit thorny. Either way, proceeding with caution this week would be beneficial.

** Note: For some reason, when I was adding the text to the video, I was thinking of August 24th, which is next Thursday (synchronicity?). This may be an important day for some of you, so I thought I would mention this.
