RUN (2020)
💁‍♀️Strong Female Lead
Tumblr media
We love a one word title. We also love our scream queen Sarah Paulson. She is mother in this film that plays like The Act series only more fictional and fun. Both mother and daughter are very intelligent so this movie moves fast and is rather thrilling. It just lacks a bit of imagination, only the use of a soldering iron is unique to the film.
⭐⭐⭐.5
(Trigger Warning Child Abduction, Infant Death, Suicide Attempt)
Tumblr media
Mother and daughter duo seem inseparable and maybe they are! Because mother Diane (played by Sarah Paulson) is pulling strings to make daughter Chloe sickly and so she needs to remain under her mothers care. What a sicko! There was that real life case where the girl ended up getting her boyfriend to kill her mom… Anyway, Chloe is very smart and starts to figure out things really quickly at the age of 17 like that her meds are her moms and they are for a DOG and cause her legs to stop functioning. (Like I said, her mom is a sicko)
Tumblr media
All bets are off once Chloe learns about the dog medicine her mom has been feeding her, Diane locks her up in the house and disables all of her disability helper stuff. Chloe has to fall down a flight of stairs (foreshadowing?) just to get to the first floor of the house, it is absolutely crazy (also the roof scene?).
Tumblr media
Now Chloe escapes to the nice Mailman but Diane nopes the fuck outta that situation by straight up murdering the mailman which sucks because the dude was nice. Poor Chloe finds out she was stolen at birth because Diane's first Chloe died right after she was born.
Tumblr media
This is all crazy upsetting for both ladies and Diane keeps saying that she loves Chloe but Chloe doesn’t really believe it and who would at this point? Then Diane puts some tar-like substance in a syringe intent on injecting it into her “daughter” and Chloe loses it, she locks herself in a closet and attempts suicide to end up in the hospital and potentially away from her mother. This works but only to the point where she is in the hospital, once there she has a tube in her mouth that keeps her from speaking and she is too weak to write right away.
Tumblr media
Diane calls a fake emergency and scoops Chloe up while the doctors and nurses all panic, Chloe is still too weak to do anything but stop herself from going towards the ramp. This stops them in front of the stairs where her mother suffers a terrible fall (after the hospital police shoot her that is). I gotta call shenanigans on the nurse comforting Chloe not noticing the poor girl was tied up, that is very unrealistic. All she does is adjust the blanket that is covering the bindings which I thought was pretty wild. The ending was a little too Return to Sender for my taste but still cute. Glad Chloe is happy and Diane got hers.

The Wild Robot was spectacular. Beautiful, textured animation with rich, complicated characters that tell a brutal, but touching story about how to quantify humanity in a world where love and kindness are alien concepts worth the risk of fighting for.
btw, Roz is kinda…😳

The Looney Tunes Show holds a special place in my heart for how it revitalized the classic WB characters. While I grew up watching the beloved slapstick shorts, the show’s sitcom format appealed to me more as an adult, offering an opportunity to explore the personalities of Bugs and Daffy in more depth.
The series also completely reinvented Lola Bunny. In Space Jam, she was a bland, one-dimensional character with little to offer beyond a persona derivative of Jessica Rabbit and a stereotypically 90s tough gal attitude. But in The Looney Tunes Show, she was reimagined as a disturbed, delusional valley girl with a unique and compelling personality—one that made her not only my favorite version of Lola, but the only one I like.
The show portrayed Lola as an innocent, bubbly, almost childlike young woman, who gradually reveals herself to be a full-fledged psychopath, infamously obsessed with Bugs. The writers wisely leaned into this twist, blending the personality of a lovesick teenager with the intensity of a thriller villainthink Legally Blonde meets Fatal Attraction. This darker take on Lola was truly inspired, not only in the hilarious writing, but in Jessica Borutski's excellent redesign and Kristen Wiig's iconic performance. While Lola's unhinged antics were toned down in season two as Bugs started dating her, her psychotic distinctiveness remained intact.
When Rabbits Run was announced, with Lola as the protagonist, I was excited. The first two acts maintained some of the offbeat humor and kooky charm of her character from The Looney Tunes Show. Though I prefer Lola to be a more overtly unhinged character, I found the direction taken in Rabbits Run moderately entertaining, at least initially. As the film progresses, we see glimpses of her deranged side, though it’s often dialed down, leaning into the sweet, goofy gal she is on the surface.
The movie begins with a fun parody of Disney Renaissance I Want songs, where Lola trashes a perfume shop while singing about her dream to leave behind her mundane life and create a signature scent in Paris. Rachel Ramras is serviceable as Lola, but cannot match Kristen Wiig's acting range, nor her singing abilities. The plot escalates when it turns out that the flower used in her perfume gives her the power of invisibility, sparking a series of chase sequences between her and the government, inspired more by the Jason Bourne films than by WB's Roadrunner or Tweety shorts. Lola, oblivious to the perfume’s effects, believes rival artists want to steal her creation, setting off a madcap adventure with Bugs Bunny dragged into the chaos.
While the animation quality here falls short of the standard set by The Looney Tunes Show, there are larger issues. The film stumbles in its third act, where the pacing grinds to a halt. After a dramatic leap from a plane, Lola and Bugs are rescued by the Goofy Gophers, who give her a makeover during an unnecessary and distracting musical number. With only two songs in the film, both of which are placed at wildly different points, can we even call this a musical?
The segment, along with the sudden romance between Lola and Bugs, feels out of place. While the two characters do become a couple in The Looney Tunes Show, here their relationship feels rushed and underdeveloped. The film does little to justify their budding romance, while Lola's stalker tendencies and Bugs’ clear discomfort with her obsessive behavior are left unexplored.
By the time the narrative moves to Paris, Lola casts aside her artistic aspirations, leaving her without a clear objective. The film’s focus shifts to a short-lived sequence of Lola and Bugs dating in Paris, which doesn’t capitalize on the setting or their invisibility. This part of the story feels like a retread of The Looney Tunes Show’s Eligible Bachelors episode, but without the same comedic impact. As the film adds Marvin the Martian as a last-minute antagonist, it becomes clear that the plot has become a disjointed series of events rather than a cohesive narrative. The film's conclusion lacks any real resolution, leaving the audience with little sense of closure.
Rabbits Run is a difficult film to recommend. If you’re a die-hard fan of Lola's character from The Looney Tunes Show, you’ll find moments of joy in her antics, particularly in the first two acts. But if you haven’t watched the show, I’d advise starting there. The film falters in its structure and tone, playing it too safe with its characters and losing much of the quirky, unpredictable energy that made Lola’s earlier iteration so memorable.
That said, Rabbits Run is a lighthearted, kid-friendly adventure, with simple, straightforward humor that makes it accessible for younger audiences. But for adults who appreciated The Looney Tunes Show’s mature humor—drawing inspiration from sitcoms like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Seinfeld—the movie is bound to feel like a missed opportunity.
It’s especially disappointing that Rabbits Run may serve as the final bow for this unique version of Lola. In New Looney Tunes, she’s portrayed as little more than a derivative Bugs Bunny clone, and in Space Jam 2, she reverts to a bland, tokenized girlboss archetype. One can only hope that Kristen Wiig and Jessica Borutski will someday return to the character, with writers willing to lean back into the delightful, deranged qualities that made her so entertaining. Ideally, they could even explore Lola’s character further in a project aimed at adults—perhaps tapping into the dark, offbeat humor of The Cable Guy or the twisted, psychologically charged energy of Gone Girl.
While Rabbits Run isn’t the explosive send-off that this Lola deserves, it remains a serviceable, if flawed, film that younger viewers may enjoy.

The bikeriders had so many guys i like in it. Nobody told me all the guys were here! Mike Faist turns up and you’re like omg and then Michael Shannon turns up and you’re like OMG!! And then Emory cohen turns up for a special omg from the OA girlies and THEN you get boyd Holbrook with a dangly earring also I didn’t even mention Dewey Crowe is in this like all the best guys are here for real and then right in the middle the ratty guy from babyteeth turns up to cause a ruckus. And the entire time you’re watching Austin butler’s girlish slender hands holding a cigarette thinking about how you want him to finger you so bad and Tom hardy’s doing another fucking accent and you start to wonder when the last time you heard his real voice was.

i was recently gifted a shudder subscription, and it turns out they have a little collection of 'weird science' movies which lead me to watching sequence break, and I was skeptical about a movie claiming to have crohnenberg style body horror but was completely sold when he starts fingering the arcade cabinet. I'm only about 30 minutes in but I can see the videodrome inspiration and I am enjoying it. very excited to see him start vomiting up wires like the trailer

Running Man: Revengers Spoiler's
Currently watching RMAR and, my goodness Max is too forgiving and quick to change the mood. Not sure if that's an archetype joke, but it just keeps catching me off-guard
But so far Max is pretty entertaining, I'm still mad they didn't brought Gai back though. I'll make a full review some other time (or maybe not. I don't keep promises 😜)

More in depth review of Twisters. Spoilers ahead, you have been warned
Soundtrack: 9/10, amazing soundtrack, gets you pumped up and is very catching, there were a few songs that were forgettable but nonetheless, insanely good.
Charaters: 6/10, I wanted to slap so many people it’s not even funny. But there were very good personalities and funny characters. My favorite was the British reporter, I only wish he was there longer. Philip Hamilton showed up, bro did in fact take his shot, but he stayed alive (for Eliza)
Story: 7/10, was pretty fast paced in the beginning, you didn’t get any time to know the characters so you couldn’t really sympathize with Kate until much later on for me personally. Like girl I get it… but why should I care? ya’ll just kept driving in the path of the tornado.
Enjoyment: 9/10 very good watch if you want something fast paced but slightly predictable. The shop owner deserved better but I knew bro was gonna die the second he said “Don’t let it take me!”
Has its own comedic charm, has very funny moments and a good feel of how the characters feel. I too would have taken the pizza and closed the door on him.
Overall: 10/10, good watch with the family, pretty clean aside from maybe like a couple curse words. No uncomfortable scenes (which is great because dear god ya’ll ever just have to look at your siblings when those scenes come on and pray you don’t laugh in the theater?)
I would die for British reporter man. Those idiots in the shop deserved to get sucked up into the tornado I said it, you listen to the redneck when he’s yelling at you to get to shelter.

🎥 izi's Random Movie Reviews 🎞
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget 👤 dir. Sam Fell
This post contains spoilers.
Tumblr media
"The characters have such nuanced life breathed into them that's encouraged further through each fingerprint left in their figures by animators."
Like a lot of folks, I grew up having seen the first Chicken Run film many times. Aardman animation has always been such the forefront of filmmaking to develop revolutionary styles of animations that have been recognizable for generations with more to come. This film, like other pieces of Aardman's portfolio, is a definition of wit. The characters have such nuanced life breathed into them that's encouraged further through each fingerprint left in their figures by animators.
The story itself is heartfelt and dramatic. These characters have such a long history with each other, but with the introduction of Molly as Ginger and Rocky's new kiddo, there are more avenues of their relationships and familial structure to explore. There is lots of showing, not telling, with the thought process through the character's thinking. They have minds of their own and sometimes the viewer is left to wonder about their decision-making. It's not something the director can tell the puppets, or the animator, but a combination of all that's being developed for this character that comes out once shooting is over and editing experiences together commences. These characters, despite being chickens are definingly human. Seeing old enemies too was shocking, but also somewhat satisfying, to see them yet again be bested by a group of chickens.
Watching stop-motion always inspires something in me. After the movie is over, I highly recommend watching the process video afterward. Even with behind-the-scenes, there's so much magic that happens on these sets.
8/10
