I've been rewriting my Showdown Round 1 fic three times this week. Starting-from-the-blank-page rewriting.

I've gone over it to edit it about a dozen of times, including three times today when I tried so hard to cut out the 100 words that didn't fit the 1500 words limit and ended up writing even more.

I'm sure I'll go through this process some more times before I'll be able to send the fic in.

But I'm so exicted, inspired and happy, I could cry... Thank you for the Showdown!

TMI Tuesday

It’s Tuesday, the sun is shining...

…fandom is being the storm cloud on my horizon.

So, I’m breaking out my rain gear and my umbrella, and my lightning conductor, and forging ahead.  Anything else would be to admit defeat, but between the engagement issues (again/still), and the ugliness in some (not all, but some) fandom groups right now, it would be so easy to just throw up my hands, and give up.

Anyway... The Rumbelle Showdown first round voting period comes to an end at midnight tonight.  I hear it’s a tight race, so if you haven’t already voted, please head on over to the showdown blog and vote, vote, vote!

Rent day usually meant an empty shop, everyone avoiding their landlord until Mr. Gold made the rounds himself to collect payments.

Then, fourteen months ago, Belle French had accepted the librarian position and moved into town, and suddenly, every rent day, she was in on her lunch break with a check and a smile. 

Of course, Gold didn’t care that she came. What did it matter to him if someone actually sought him out to pay him on time, in full? Sure, in doing so, she ensured that he took every maintenance complaint seriously—he’d even once gone himself to fix her garbage disposal. He didn’t care that she’d smiled at him, offered him a cup of tea, and engaged him in conversation about his antique cufflinks. If she felt the need to converse with her handymen, what did it matter to him?

He didn’t care about the librarian.

Update: Hurry Up and Wait

Not an official TMI Tuesday post (and not only because I'm writing this on a Monday) but I figured the readers of my fics might want to know how things are going.

In all honesty, things are going pretty well. We are fully moved in (though not unpacked.) There was some drama with the movers taking more money than we expected and then not answering our calls for a week, but they finally answered us and we miiiiiiight get a refund! I survived Mother's Day, which is always a difficult holiday. I saw Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which is overall good but slightly unsatisfying for me personally. (I just wanted there to be more of it. There are questions that are unanswered and I guess the questions are kind of the point, but I still want answers dang it!) I've got family coming in next weekend, so we'll get to show off the new place. Real life is happening, which is making it very hard to dedicate myself to fiction.

I have started Courtship chapter 15 (Prenup). Actually, I started it twice. I scrapped the first 1400 words I wrote because it just wasn't coming together. Usually that's a sign that something is wrong and I need to rethink the angle I'm coming at the chapter from.

(In Courtship especially I've found that the answer is often making things shorter--cutting straight to the action. It was also this way with chapter 10 from Gold's POV. I initially got caught up in details that didn't matter and wouldn't get the time to be developed properly, so I got rid of all that and went for a more immediate feel. The work is so much better for going straight to the point and filling in details as they become actually necessary.)

Right now I've got half of chapter 15 written. I won't have time to write and edit the rest of it by this Friday, but I am desperately hoping it'll be done by 5-24. The good news is, I might be able to get some smut in there! It has been too long since Lacey lost her mind with multiple orgasms.

For Your Consideration

2023 year was my first year in the fandom (well, technically 2022 was my first year in the fandom and the year I made my Belle rp blog, but in terms of actually contributing something to the fandom 2023 was my first year).

I started it off with great ambitions regarding writing and gifing and editing. I ended up posting only a handful of gifsets, three ficlets, two of which I wrote for Rumbelle Showdown (shoutout to @jackabelle73 for hosting this wonderful event last year, by the way), and 0 fanvids/edits. I'm not particularly proud of it, and I really, really wanna make much more content this year. We'll see how it goes 😅

The Monday Menu

Well, I did it... I finished Disparate Pathways. The final chapter was posted this morning. It has been a journey that started in December of 2019 with Witness Protection. Written for the Rumbelle Secret Santa, I was constrained for time, and found myself leaving out a lot of backstory, which I really wanted to include.  My solution was to write the remix, which became the 57 chapter long epic that I finished posting today.  I’m going to miss writing for those characters. The dangerous ex-cartel scion, Gold, and the bad-ass-with-a-heart-of-gold, FBI agent Jefferson Milnor.  I’m not ready to say goodbye! 

For those of you that are new to the fandom, or have been hibernating (and who could blame anyone for that given the state of the world) the past couple of years, the Rumbelle Showdown is in full swing. Round 2 brackets are posted, and writers are, I would imagine, currently working on their fics.  Round 1 had some awesome fics, and there’s still a chance for you to identify the favorite you had among those eliminated from round 1. I know that included some of my favorites. Run - don’t walk - to the Showdown blog. Don’t miss out!

Hopefully I will be able to find time to get some writing done this week, and here’s the plan for what this week might look like:

Monday - The Monday Menu - what it says on the box. A plan for the week, also, sometimes, a Monday Mmmm. There won’t always be one of these, just when something troubling or interesting crosses my path.

Tuesday - TMI Tuesday. - Ask me… go on, anything.  Ask my characters -they’ll answer. Nothing is off limits, but be sure you want the answer before you ask the question.

Wednesday - WIP Wednesday - Current state of my works in progress. So many - and still climbing!

Thursday - Three Things Thursday - any fic of mine is fair game. Doesn’t have to be Rumbelle, I have Rushbelle, a bunch of crossovers, some shows people might no know, some ST: DSC, some SGA and some Tolkien too… ask three things, I dare ya…! Please… This is also the day I’ll do the ‘Behind the Scenes’ post, which might just end up as part of the TTT post.

Friday - Final Line Friday. - Assuming I manage to write anything, I will post a word cloud, and the last line that I have written right before I post this. Also I hope to be able to start a Fic Rec Friday too, which won’t always be Rumbelle, but could be any fandom out there.

Saturday - Saturday Secret - another one of those where you can ask about any fic, and I’ll tell (or show) you a secret. Feel free to follow up with conversation or guesses.  I will tell you if you get something right. Again, no one took me up on the offer… so we might also have to think of another ‘SA’ post.

Writing this week - Same as last week... Modern Wonders (At least I’d like to try and get some writing done on this fic.  It has been calling to me after all).  Also perhaps dabbling in some Not Yours to Keep and/or some Laer o Faen.
