Roy Harris has over three decades of experience teaching and competing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The 6th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Harris is widely respected for his technical approach to teaching the art.

It is Roy Harris Jiu Jitsu's emphasis on drills and repetitions that makes it unique. Developing muscle memory and reflexes through consistent practice is crucial to mastering Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, according to Harris. He has helped his students achieve success in competition and in their own development by drilling and repeating techniques.

He is also known for his contributions to the BJJ community, in addition to his teaching and competitive accomplishments. His involvement in the development of several BJJ organizations and initiatives includes the United States Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation and the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Association. A politician designed in a lab to help Democrats win pivotal Rust Belt swing states would probably look a lot like Josh Shapiro. In 2016, when Donald Trump won Pennsylvania by less than 1 percent of the vote, Shapiro was elected attorney general by nearly 3 percent. In 2020, when Joe Biden won the state by one point, Shapiro won reelection by more than four points. And in 2022, the Democrat took the governorship by a whopping 15 percent.

Today, Shapiro’s favorability in Pennsylvania stands at a commanding 61 percent, far outstripping Kamala Harris’s 49 percent in the state. Leaks from the Republican camp suggest that party strategists see the governor as one of their most formidable potential adversaries in a presidential campaign. There’s just one problem.

"He’s Jewish," CNN’s John King noted last week, so "there could be some risk in putting him on the ticket." In fact, Shapiro might be the most visibly Jewish elected official in America: He keeps kosher, has weekly Shabbat dinner with his family, and even quotes Jewish scripture in his political speeches. The sole race he ever lost was for student-body president at his Jewish day school.

Events have borne out King’s concern. Today, Shapiro is the only veep contender subject to an organized campaign to capsize his prospective nomination. Put together by hard-left congressional staffers and members of Democratic Socialists of America, among others, the push is ostensibly about Shapiro’s support for Israel. "Tell Kamala and the Democrats now," reads the site NoGenocideJosh.com, "say no to Genocide Josh Shapiro for Vice President."

"I personally believe Benjamin Netanyahu is one of the worst leaders of all time," Shapiro told reporters in January, months before Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called for the Israeli leader to resign. At the time, Shapiro also pressed for an "immediate two-state solution," something Netanyahu and his hard-right government stridently oppose. The anti-Shapiro campaign ignores these remarks but makes much of the governor’s comparison of campus Gaza protesters to "people dressed up in KKK outfits." When he said that in an interview, however, Shapiro was distinguishing between bigoted extremists—such as the Columbia campus-protest leader who called for killing "Zionists"—and peaceful demonstrators, about whom the governor has said, "It’s right for young people to righteously protest and question."

Now consider the other vice-presidential contenders. Arizona’s Senator Mark Kelly leads the Democratic-nominee prediction markets along with Shapiro. Like the Pennsylvania governor, Kelly also supported using police to break up campus encampments. "Everybody has the right to protest peacefully,” he said, “but when it turns into unlawful acts—we’ve seen this in a number of colleges and universities, including here in Arizona—it’s appropriate for the police to step in.” In the same interview, Kelly said that the Israelis “have to do a better job” reducing civilian casualties in Gaza, but drew on his military experience to explain the difficulty of that task, and emphasized that “Hamas, without question, is the biggest impediment to peace in the Middle East.” Last week, Kelly attended Netanyahu’s address to Congress and applauded.

Unlike Shapiro, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper didn’t simply enforce preexisting state laws against boycotts of Israel while in office—he signed one himself in 2017. This month, Cooper codified into state law a definition of anti-Semitism that has been adopted by many countries around the world, but that left-wing critics argue penalizes speech critical of Israel. Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, flew state flags at half-mast after October 7 and did not respond to activists who called on the state to divest from Israel. Some were arrested after protesting outside his residence.

That all of these politicians support Israel should not come as a surprise. After all, Harris is searching for a moderate to help her win swing voters in states that are currently polling in the Trump column. Although some Democrats have grown more critical of Israel, Americans back the country by a two-to-one margin and oppose the recent campus protests, which means that any VP nominee considered by Harris would likely share such views.

And yet, activists have not organized in force to discredit any of the non-Jewish contenders for vice president on these grounds. There are no viral memes against “Killer Kelly” or “War-Crimes Walz.” Either the activists involved are extraordinarily lazy and never thought to investigate the other VP possibilities, or they think that Jews are uniquely untrustworthy. Seen in context, the “Genocide Josh” campaign and its tendentious reading of Shapiro’s record look less like a legitimate political critique than a rigged litmus test imposed on the Jewish lawmaker alone.

Sadly, this selective stigmatization isn’t new to progressive politics. In 2021, the Washington, D.C., branch of the climate-action group Sunrise Movement pulled out of a voting-rights rally because of the participation of three American Jewish groups. All three were known for their progressive domestic-policy advocacy and supported a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But the D.C. chapter of Sunrise nonetheless argued for their exclusion because the groups were “Zionist.”

The large majority of supporters of Israel and Zionism throughout history have been—like President Biden—not Jewish. Yet the Sunrise branch made no demands of the many non-Jewish groups at the rally; they effectively carded only Jews at the door. The organization later apologized and called the incident “an opportunity to grow.” That growth seems to have been stunted. Today, the national Sunrise Movement is echoing the rhetoric of the “Genocide Josh” campaign, while it has remained mum on the Israel stances of all other VP contenders.

It has become hard to escape the conclusion that some of the activists imposing this inquisition have a problem not just with Israel or Zionism but with Jews, who they assume are serving a foreign power, no matter what they’ve actually said or done. Historically, this is nothing new. The white-nationalist right has long sought to stigmatize American Jews as subversive and exclude them from political life, arguing that Jews are loyal only to their own kind. In this case, however, some on the progressive left are the ones treating Jewish identity as inherently suspect and holding Jewish political actors to a different standard than their non-Jewish counterparts.

The irony of this whole affair is that Shapiro has actually been more outspoken against Israel’s leadership than Biden or Harris. Few Rust Belt governors would publicly rebuke the prime minister of a foreign country, let alone that of an ally like Israel. But Shapiro knows a thing or two about the subject, which is why he feels comfortable assailing both Netanyahu for thwarting peace and extremist campus protesters for engaging in anti-Semitism. The two positions are not contradictory except to binary thinkers who treat the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a partisan sport, and whose understanding of the issue derives from social-media slogans. Marooned in their moralism, the “Genocide Josh” brigade misses what makes Shapiro so interesting.

The truth is that whatever Shapiro’s views, a Jewish vice president would function in precisely the opposite manner from what these critics fear. Far from a sinister Semitic Svengali suborning the president to an Israeli agenda, a Jewish veep would be trotted out to defend Harris in her inevitable conflicts with Israel’s right-wing government, and to insulate the boss from charges of anti-Semitism. As one Republican Senate staffer put it to Jewish Insider last week, if Shapiro is picked, “forget about claiming we’re the only party standing against anti-Semitism.”

The perverse politics of Jewish identity are one reason I’ve never been enthusiastic about the prospect of a Jewish president or vice president. Anti-Semitism conceives of Jews as clandestine puppeteers who control the world’s governments and economies, fueling political and social problems. A Jewish vice president would provide the perfect canvas for these fevered fantasies—a largely ceremonial figure onto whom bigots could nonetheless project all of their conspiracies, casting him as the real power behind the Resolute Desk.

Harris would be foolish to discard any compelling VP option over their views on an intractable foreign-policy conflict thousands of miles away, while Americans stare down the prospect of another Trump presidency here at home. With the polls as tight as they are, and her campaign starting from behind, she is unlikely to choose her running mate based on unrepresentative online outrage rather than cold electoral calculus. If she picks a Jewish vice president, it will be for his impact on the Electoral College—not the Middle East.

After publication, a spokesperson for Sunrise clarified that the group does not support the "Genocide Josh" campaign, and that its tweet on the subject of Harris's pick--which was shared by the "Genocide Josh" X account--was "intended to be talking about issues, not individuals."

The only thing that makes even remote sense to me is that they were even negotiating over the last few weeks was because Spotify wanted to decrease the number of staff it paid to produce archetypes. I mean the list was so incredibly long for a 13 episode series, it boarded insane. I don't think meghan wanted that to happen. They knew they still needed all of that help and they only have what 1 or 2 people actively working on the podcast side of archewell, assuming they're still around today?

If she was having her staff conduct the interviews all together now we know why there were so many producers.

So I have a theory...I think that Meghan was wanting the final payment of their $20M deal and Spotify refused because her numbers were dismal. I think she expected them to fork over more cash for her to spend elsewhere. Spotify realized that Harry had no intention of doing a podcast and that Meghan's ideas had zero ROI so Spotify cut their losses.

PLUS, Spotify did the deal to get the dirt on the BRF and Netflix got most of that so there wasn't a point to keep them on contract.

“it’s his job not to be soft” is crazy when a) what in the toxic masculinity, b) he was yelling at them in the second half, and c) he was brimming with anger in the post match interview saying it was unacceptable … it’s honestly a bit sickening time and time again to see all these micro aggressions against sonny. especially ppl who compare him with kane like why is kane shown so much grace for his bad games and sonny is not lmfao despite being instrumental in possibly our greatest achievement since 2008 (cl run). think we all know why really

like it's fine to say 'cor sonny was shit today' because he was, and it's fine to say if he's on a bad run of form too such as times like last season (not his fault) but this person was also questioning his commitment to club and the team... im sorry but you just cannot ask for more from a player. he's one of the committed players to the club i've ever seen, and even if kane had stayed there was no other candidate for the captaincy in my opinion. it HAD to be sonny. i have never once looked at him and thought he was lacking any effort, not even last season when there was a few players who i wasn't sure were quite putting their all in (understandable, they were playing under conte after all)

and yeah so what if sonny isn't a shouty person? players are allowed to have a 'softer' personalty. we know sonny has such a good relationship with his teams mates on and off the pitch that they'll all run through a brick wall for him. he's the bridge between all the players and language etc... people were also a bit like this with hugo as if he wasnt vocal on the pitch and would be angry when needed in interviews like sonny - people seemed under the impression he never fucking spoke lmao. there's also been some talk around this in how people talk about odegaard and his captaincy too... just because a player doesn't go around CONSTANTLY shouting a la henderson or roy fucking keane like its still the 90s doesn't mean they're not a good leader for being 'soft' it just means they have a different leadership style and personality and there's nothing wrong with that. there's definitely some racism when it comes to people thinking sonny's soft, imo. (it's also funny when you consider that rival fans think that sonny is some horrible dirty player who goes around trying to purposefully injure players because of a spell where he was petulant and got 2 reds and then his foul that lead to aurier breaking gomes' ankle... 2 completely differently views of him lmao)

look, i'll always love kane for all the goals but yeah, he really could do no wrong in a lot of spurs fans eyes. even when he went on strike. like COME ON, no other player would have been forgiven so quickly after that, and no other player wouldnt have it held against them. going back to the commitment thing, sonny would NEVER EVER pull a stunt like that. it's really annoying that people don't see that sonny is just as - if not more- committed to us than harry was. he could have pushed for a move every summer for the past 5 years and hasn't. sonny ALWAYS stepped up in kane's absence (as seen in the champions league that year). can't even say kane was afforded extra grace because he's an academy lad when you look at how our fans have treated other academy players over the years so what does that leave... i don't think people quite realise they're doing it, tbh (same with the 'soft' comments)

More Disco Elysium (definitely spoilers):

I have, at this point, completed one in-game day.

So, some interesting shit, both on its own and when considered in combination: 1) talking to the dead body. Did not expect that. I read this more of an abstraction—Harry (apparently) talking to himself, or whatever it is that’s in his head. 2) Only got to the title card when I opened the ledger. I honestly thought I’d died for a second and the game had restarted---we went back to that “reptilian brain/limbic system” conversation space from the opening, what happens when Harry passes out, I guess. But like, okay. What that basically confirms for me is something I already sort of suspected; the murder is, to at least some degree, incidental to whatever the actual story is here. The real story is whatever’s going on with Harry.

Which, okay, hold on. Given the sort of ambiguous ontology re: the real world that I was talking about last time, makes me wonder…This is a dream, isn’t it? Or something like that. Something not quite “real,” in the traditional sense. So the two stories are kind of one story—all the shit going on in this world re: racism/labor/disco somehow reflects the more personal story. Harry did make an explicit connection between himself and the body (or the body did, I’m not sure, but like… that’s what I mean). I dunno. I’m spitballing here, maybe they aren’t going that far with it, but this line of thinking is encouraging me to try and find parallels/connections in a way I wasn’t before, so I’m rollin’ it around in the ol’ noggin’ for the moment (you might say I have it equipped to one of my thought slots…)

(I have some more “what if, though” ideas that spin out from that, but they’re wild speculation still at this point.)

But more in-world mystery stuff.. the fuck was Call Me Mañana talking about when he said “Thank him [Cuno] for showing me the *way.*” What way? What does that mean? It’s an odd thing to say. It didn’t let me ask about that, but like…  There is a part of me that thinks maybe Cuno is just building himself up, just messing with me. But then this comes along. It reenforces the feeling that that kid has some SHIT up his sleeve. Also, what’s CMM’s deal? Why did Joyce hear about the lynching from HIM? He says he doesn’t work in a gatekeeping capacity, but like… what capacity DOES he work in?

Got into the apartments, tracking down the smoking fellow. Apparently I have to come back tomorrow? (Still on the first day.) But who is his “friend?” Also, the dead guy has stars tattooed all over him and now there’s an astrologer with a padlocked door? Hm. Also Either 1) the cleaning lady is lying about Apt 10, or… something else is happening. Something, perhaps not dissimilar from Harry speaking to voices? Or it’s squatters, I guess. Either way, not sure what to do with that information yet, but noted.

Cindy’s pretty rad. At least, based on that first interaction. Also lol @ “the subject’s evident hostility to her interviewer” in the profile of C.S. in the communist magazine, cos yeah, I can see that. So she’s not a fan of pigs or communists… and she talks about bringing a little chaos to town… hm. The more I think about that, the more I’m getting like the Spock-eyebrow about it.

Bird’s Nest Roy said something about “The Man from Hjelmdall” being “an ontological necessity.” The story has made it so that he exists. Like, I feel like he’s telling me something about the nature of this world, you know?

OH MY GOD I FINALLY MADE THE STUPID JUMP DOWN TO THE COAT. Just had to take 2 points in Savoir Faire, find new pants and a sweaty tanktop, and take off my shoes. Yeesh. Good, though. I didn’t wanna have to deal with Measurehead anymore. But, of course, by the time I got there, it was after 22:00.

So I’m talking to the Bloated Corpse of a Drunk, and ask him what Elysium is, because… I would like to know that. I’m trying to make sense of his answer. But he also says “You were just talking to yourself. That’s all you ever do. Even in your dreams. And the act is wearing thin, the spots of the disco ball fade around you.” Which like, comes back to the whole “this whole thing is a dream, or maybe a dying mind unraveling its trauma, Mulholland Drive style, or something” hypothesis. (Why did the car tell me it’s “at the bottom of the sea?”) But what does it mean that “four point six billion people—and you failed every one of them?” Is that hyperbole or…?

Annnnd I wound up my play session by accidentally agreeing to find some speed, but… I mean, who hasn’t accidentally agreed to find and ingest some powerful drugs, amirite?

Happy 57th Birthday Scottish actress Shirley Henderson.

Shirley was born 24th November 1965 in Forres, Moray, but grew up in Kincardine, Fife, she began performing young and at the age of 13 found herself singing in a boxing ring between bouts after winning a local singing competition going on to sing in the local working men’s clubs on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons. Reading through a few interviews I found it interesting that her big days out as a youngster was going to the York Cafe in the town I live, Falkirk, the cafe is still there, but has been through a few changes in ownership since I came here 8 years ago.

Anyway back to the lass herself, after deciding upon acting as a career, she uprooted to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

After graduating in 1986 Henderson embarked upon a stage career that included spells at the National Theatre, the Royal Court, the Traverse, Hampstead, the Citizens, and the Whitehall Theatre.

I first remember her in Hamish Macbeth where she played Isobel Sutherland, who was head over heels in Robert Carlyle's character, though he didn’t know it, she bowed out in the penultimate episode.

There are very different roles that you might remember Shirley from, in my case she played Gail in the two Trainspotting films, if you need another reminder who she was, well remember Spud’s girlfriend and the incident with “dirty” bedding that he wanted to was and got into a tugging contest?

Other film fans will know Shirley as Moaning Myrtle in a couple of the Harry Potter films.  Romcom fans will know her for her role as Jude in Bridget Jones’s Diary  who is always in the ladies’ room crying about her boyfriend.

She has of course been in numerous other shows and films including Wish Me Luck, Casualty, The Bill, Rob Roy, Dr Who, Once Upon a Time in the Midlands, Happy Valley and she plays Lucille Hardy, wife of Oliver Hardy about the comedy duo, called Stan and Ollie. 

Shirley is a busy lassie, she has recently been in  Lovely Little Farm, on Apple TV,  The  2022 comedy mystery film See how they run, and the excellent Channel 5 drama The House Across the Street. 

Next up for oor Shirley is a new adaptation of Tom Jones, from the makers of Poldark, it is of course based on Henry Fielding's 1749 novel,  Dune: The Sisterhood as prequel to the original for HBO Max and a Brit-flic set in London,  The Trouble with Jessica is a comedy about the dissolving relationship of two couples.

Shirley has a great attitude and has said;

“ I never get the tall, blonde, glamorous roles because I'm not tall, blonde and glamorous. I'm more the wee, disturbing characters because of the way I look or sound.” And as a Scot;

“I like doom and gloom with a sense of humour. Maybe it's a Scottish thing, we like to undercut indulgence with a laugh.” And on fame;

“I like to be left alone,” she tells me at one point. “I’m happy to be anonymous and just to lead my own wee quiet life.”

The Devil All The Time (2020) interview with Harry Melling Melling plays preacher Roy Laferty (less Reverend Lovejoy, more speaking in tongues), in the star-studded cast that also lists Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan and Riley Keough on the call sheet. Hey, opening ships was such a fun idea! I was wondering if I could have get a ship with a male character? To start off I’m short, around 5’1 with brown hair and brown eyes. Currently, I am in university where I am double majoring in government and journalism. I want to a career related to politics like writing about current events. I love to spend time with other people and just talk. Despite this I’m highly insecure that I talk too much and come off annoying but I try to deflect with humor. I like to have a ring or something to fidget with when I get anxious. For hobbies I love reading, watching tv shows, and watching videos on YouTube. My favorite book is Normal People by Sally Rooney and my favorite show besides Succession is The Good Place or Arrested Development. I enjoy long form (over an hour) content on YouTube but dislike watching movies. My favorite music artist is Taylor Swift and I primarily listen to her. But my second favorite artist is probably Joji. I also enjoy things some would consider nerdy like Star Wars and Harry Potter (I’m a Hufflepuff). When I get excited or passionate about something I begin to ramble so it would mean a lot to have someone to listen. He loves your height. Roman is a pretty short guy, so having someone who is shorter than him makes him feel like he can protect you, like he can become your human shield if need be. It might not be your favorite thing in the world, but he really does think you're adorable. Plus, he has so many unused jokes it's insane. It's like he's been waiting for this moment his entire life. They get a little tired after a while, but he finds them absolutely hilarious. He also loves how driven you are. You study hard, you apply yourself, you work incredibly hard all towards a future goal. Especially in politics, it's not easy. He admires that. You have to show him that none of what he has been told and believes is true.

Your first date isn't actually a date, rather you're set to interview Logan about ATN and Roman is sent to babysit you while he got ready. He makes you laugh a lot and even compliments you on your laugh. It makes him blush that you're so giggly. He finds you attractive from the start, but knows what kind of trouble he could get in coming on too strong. You end up talking for a long time, promising this is all off the record. By the end he's asked you out to dinner and has your number in his phone.

Relationship Headcanon: Roman loves to listen to you ramble. About anything and everything, it doesn't matter. The sound of your voice is soothing to him and he can't help but get excited when you're excited. You talk about the music you love, the books you've read with all the plots and characters, whatever you're into at the moment. You apologize after, realizing how long you've been going on about the same things, but he won't hear it. He loves you and all your interests. He considers himself the luckiest man to be able to hear about it.
