Chapter 116

I’m standing between the God of Order and her long-lost, murderous daughter—and all I can think of is how they’re my family.

Family, only separated by a couple hundred generations.

“I do not have an antidote, but if I did, I would not give it to you. I want Cyrus to become a false god. It’s the only way I can be assured of my ultimate vengeance for taking my daughter from me, and he will feel the wrath of a true god when I am done.”

Well…that’s just the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

Bitch, you literally gave him the God stone so that he could become a god. How the fuck is the Crone’s plan any different from your own?

With that bone-chilling statement, she turns back to Hudson and Jaxon and tosses out, “Thanks, but I think I’ll stick with the winning team.” And then she walks through the portal.

Chapter 116 summary: The crone comes out, and Grace tries to tell Izzy that this is her mother. However, as you can imagine, this would be difficult to swallow even if you hadn’t been brainwashed by your father since before you could form memories. There’s a lot of talking, but it basically boils down to Cyrus having kidnapped baby Izzy and then lying about it. When Rowena showed up for the tea, the crone figured it out, which is why she asked Rowena to go find and bring back Izzy.

Grace tries to ask for the antidote that poisoned the gargoyle army, but the crone insists she doesn’t have it. Nor would she give it to Grace even if she did. She has a plan to make Cyrus suffer, but it apparently doesn’t involve anybody but herself.

Izzy still doesn’t want anything to do with any of this, and tries to leave through another portal Remy opened for her. Grace gets in front of her and tries one last time to try and make her see reason. However, as you can imagine, after having been brainwashed for a thousand years, the girl is not going to fucking listen to anything anybody says.

Chapter 117

[Rowena] wouldn’t be so ill if she hadn’t helped my parents hide my gargoyle.

Uh… No mention of how a psychotic dictator held Rowena in his basement for a decade?

Am I so desperate to save my people and fix my mistake that I’ve convinced myself, convinced my friends, that we are strong enough to win? And what happens if we aren’t?

Chapter 117 summary: After Izzy leaves, some of the other vampires (the ones who are technically named but aren’t important enough for you to actually remember) say that they knew of Izzy. That she hung around at the court a lot. But nobody knew that she was Cyrus’s daughter. Would have never guessed.

They go through to the witch court, where Rowena and Finn thank Grace for having helped rescue Rowena.

Everybody goes off to get some food and sleep.

Chapter 118

“I’m so sorry,” I whisper, because the need to apologize has been eating at me since I saw my aunt on the floor of that dungeon. “None of this would have happened if you hadn’t needed to get the tea for me—”

Chapter 118 summary: Since all of the kids from Katmere are now at the witch court, they have to double up on rooms. And since it’s Finn who’s assigning rooms, Grace ends up with Macy instead of Hudson. (Which is probably for the best, regardless.) Rowena comes by, so Grace goes to take a shower to give Macy a moment alone with her mom.

When she comes out, Rowena and Macy are looking through runes and at magic crystals. Rowena also says that her own sister is letting Macy pick three potions from her store, which Macy finds quite exciting.

Grace then apologises to her aunt for being the reason why Rowena had been locked up for a decade.

Chapter 119

“And the Crone said the first time we visited her that gargoyles are not immune to ancient magic! And that means—” She breaks off as a knock sounds at the door.

Chapter 119 summary: Rowena basically says that it’s not Grace’s fault that Rowena did something. Especially not when Grace herself didn’t even know most of the full picture until a few months ago. She goes on to say that they never meant to keep Grace’s powers locked up for so long. But after Rowena was locked up, it sent everybody into a panic.

Rowena continues on and says that Grace’s wild magic (from the bloodletter) is powerful, and angry that it hasn’t been free. That one day, it’ll overpower her gargoyle and human sides. She also says that Grace has a bit of witch powers, which she would have inherited from her dad. Grace doesn’t believe this at first, but then is happy to have a bit of something from him.

Nighttime at Idyllshire was as lively as the day, though with a different kind of crowd. Adventurers would flock through the gate, turning in their spoils from their hunts; disciples of the hand and land would rush to the vendors and fight for their share of the trade.

Further behind from the hubbub, there was an orphanage established by Zhloe Aliapoh, a Moon Keeper with a cheery personality. Even so, there was a time that had turned her smile upside down.

Though small and cramped, the foster home had its fair share of guests—from Miss Rowena, her benefactor, to the Warrior of Light, who had been a great assistance with the custom deliveries. However, this pair who followed behind her, weren’t your ordinary helpers.

The shorter of the two was of Xaela origin: clad in full black, with frills that matched her noble upbringing, except for her unblinking grey eyes that shone with cold intelligence. Her partner, a Veena in maid uniform, though appear meek at first glance, had an air of deadly grace—of someone who was capable of walking across wooden boards without a sound, even with her high heels. They introduced themselves as Sora Holmes and Yiune Watson, respectively, and they were recommended by the Warrior of Light himself.

“Here.” Khloe showed the odd duo into a vacant room on the second floor. “I have moved the children to another chamber, but—”

Before she could finish her sentence, the building shook as a thundering sound spook the poor young lady, causing her to lose her balance. Yiune the maid caught her; she noticed that the Viera had large hands.

“…I see,” Sora spoke, completely unfazed by the stamping noise from above. “So this is the reason why you seek our help.”

“T-The children are scared,” Zhloe replied after she had calmed down a little. “We tried to search for the cause of this… strange phenomenon, but we couldn’t find any.”

“What’s above this room?”

“The attic,” Khloe answered, now leaving the room and continuing the tour. “It’s where we keep the toys that the children would pick up and play.”

When the trio reached the topmost floor, the stomping sound began to echo through the orphanage. Khloe pursed her lips when her ears picked up the sound of crying.

“I’m sorry, but please excuse me while I need to attend to the children.”

After the distressed Miqo’te had left the scene, Sora turned to her maidservant. “What do you think?”

“I can feel an odd presence behind this door,” Yiune whispered, placing a hand on the attic’s entrance. Her voice sounded deeper than what one would expect from a pretty lady like her. “But… how?”

“Someone must have sneaked them under the guise of presents for the children,” Sora said, rapping on the wooden surface with her scaled fist. “A poor taste for jokes, if you ask me, especially for the month of All Saints’ Wake.”

She pushed open the door, revealing a room full of toys—or more specifically, dolls. Her nose wrinkled at the dust that shimmered in the moonlight streaming through the rooftop window. The loud stamping also ceased the moment the pair entered the attic.

“You don’t scare us, little ones—I suggest showing yourselves now.”

High-pitched giggling bounced off the walls, probably an intent to confuse the stern guests, but Sora merely sighed.

“If you please,” she said, tapping on the Veena’s arm. “Naughty children should be punished, after all.”

With a curt nod, Yiune pulled out a pair of daggers from the under her maid dress. In a flash, she appeared to slice through the air… only for a handful of broken strings to fall slowly onto the floor. Then, with insane precision, she threw her knives at two particular spots from amongst the towering collection of dolls. Walking up to retrieve her weapon, something was stuck to the end of each blade.

Twinning dolls. One in a red dress, the other in blue.

“Calca and Brina.” Sora grimaced at the culprit behind the annoying stomps. “Who in the world would think that these rascals were worth gifting?”

AUTHOR’S NOTE.

I know the ending is a bit rushed, but I think it works for a quick writing exercise.

When I saw the prompt word, I was immediately reminded of a certain dungeon with certain enemies that were doing exactly that… I am sure most people in the community would agree with me that they were pretty annoying, especially when that sound effect booms through headphones.

Terrible Fic Idea #68: GOT, but make it bastards and broken things

Sometimes I have terrible fic ideas. Sometimes terrible fic ideas have me - such as this one, which crawled into my head the other day and has yet to let go. Mainly: what if Game of Thrones leaned into the cripples, bastards, and broken things motif?

Or: What if Tyrion Lannister and f!Jon Snow formed a marriage of convenience?

Aka: The Red Queen Fic

Just imagine it:

Everything happens as per canon, with two exceptions: 1) Lyanna Stark dies giving birth to a daughter whose "beauty matured as she grew older, and its was said that she was more beautiful at age seventy than at age seventeen" [x], who Ned named Rowena after Jon Arryn's second wife; and 2) The Greyjoy Rebellion takes place immediately before Robert heads north.

Things go slightly differently in the Greyjoy Rebellion. Everyone is a little older, reflexes are a little slower, and everyone has been on peacetime footing for just that much longer. Tywin Lannister dies in the fighting, with the Lord Paramountcy of the Westerlands falling to Tyrion. Theon Greyjoy dies alongside his brothers; his sister becomes Ned's ward instead.

Meanwhile, Jon Arryn has died of apparent old age back in King's Landing, so Robert choses to ride from war in the west straight to Winterfell, so Ned can wrap up a few things before being dragged back to the capitol as Hand. Tyrion is dragged along.

While there, Tyrion encounters awkward, angular, but strangely charismatic Rowena Snow in the library. They do not expect to hit it off, but they do, finding a genuine friendship and understanding in each other. It is not love, but it is enough.

As Lord Paramount of the Westerlands, Tyrion needs a bride - and he was already turned down by most of the eligible families of rank while he was still heir. So rather than trod a well-known path, he proposes marriage to Rowena, who is at least tolerable and believed to be the bastard of Ned Stark and Ashara Dayne.

Rowena, realizing it's the best offer she'll ever get, agrees, and eventually convinces Ned to do so as well. After all, there's nothing a Lannister protects more fiercely than another lion.

Canon continues apace. Ned loses his head, war is declared, and Cersei can make very few open moves against her sister-in-law - who is, after all, a Lannister now - or Sansa - a hostage, yes, but under Rowena's protection. The latter still isn't having a good time, but at least she's not being beaten in open court. (Eventually Rowena does manage to get Sansa married off to Willas Tyrell, securing the Reach and her sister's safety.)

The Red Wedding happens, though it is planned entirely by the Freys and Cersei herself, who thinks Tyrion is too weak to do what must be done. No one is pleased.

The Purple Wedding happens. Tyrion and Rowena manage to avoid suspicion by missing the event entirely, the latter being confined to childbed as she labored with their first child, Joanna - though Cersei still tries to point fingers at them anyway. Few believe her.

Cersei's actions grow wilder while Tommen is king... to the point where Rowena and Tyrion realize if they don't act soon riots and revolts will act for them. So they stage a palace coup.

Tyrion, in addition to being Hand of the King, is Regent after the coup. He sits in the small council in the first of these roles and has Rowena sit in his place for the second. They manage to stabilize most of mainland Westeros - Tyrion strengthens ties with Dorne, despite the suspicious death of his niece; Rowena heads to the Vale, replaces Lysa Arryn and Littlefinger with Bronze Yohn, and sends Robert Arryn to be fostered with Sansa and Willas; forces loyal to Tyrion liberate Edmure Tully from the Twins and install him back in Riverrun - but the North and Iron Islands are still a mess when winter descends.

Margery dies of a winter sickness. Tommen goes mad with grief. He kills himself soon after... and Tyrion, his regent, is left as King of Westeros.

It should be a recipe for more revolts and uprisings - after all, it was bad enough a dwarf married to a bastard was Regent, let alone Hand of the King - but Westeros is tired of war. It's now the middle of the longest winter ever recorded, and rather than hoard food Tyrion does his best to distribute it evenly throughout the country. He makes concessions. He rules, allows widows and heiresses and young children to keep control of family estates, fills empty castles with good men rather than cronies, and generally acts like a decent king. It's a nice change of pace for a country so familiar with Targaryen drama.

Eventually word comes spilling out of the war-torn North about the Others. Rowena, being the fighter of the new royal couple, leads a force north and eventually defeats them, less through individual martial prowess than decent leadership and fresh troops

When Dany arrives after winter is over to stake her claim, few wish to join her. She harries Westeros from the Stepstones for a few years, but when she dies under suspicious circumstances - probably an assassination, but she had so many enemies at that point no one can say which got to her - her dragons take up residence on Dragonstone of their own accord, seemingly giving their allegiance to the new dynasty.

Bonuses include: 1) Later historians endlessly debating whether or not Tyrion was the bastard son of the Mad King. The evidence should be circumstantial but convincing and include his children's appearance. A few will try claiming Rowena was the daughter of a dragonseed - maybe even Rhaegar himself - but are less well received; 2) Rowena gaining her moniker Red Queen from her habit of wearing primarily Lannister Red after her marriage - and for occasionally becoming drenched in the blood of her enemies, as when removing Littlefinger from power in the Eyrie; 3) Tyrion and Rowena's marriage being one primarily of friendship. It should take at least a year - possibly closer to three - for them to feel genuine romantic love for each other. It should, however, be the ideal medieval noble marriage, filled with fondness and respect, even from the beginning; and 4) Cersei fading away into obscurity. She's never outright harmed or neglected or even strictly imprisoned, she merely retires to a strict motherhouse from which escape is unlikely if not impossible and fades from history. Her name, for all it is connected for four kings by blood and marriage, is largely forgotten by even those familiar with the time period in favor of Robert's first love, Lyanna, and Tyrion's reserved but unendlessly capable queen, Rowena.

Akelda's health had been fluctuating, but when it took a turn for the worse, it was feared she was not going to make it. When she recovered against all odds, Edward was delighted and relieved. The marriage plans were put back in motion, but one day during a family picnic, Akelda suddenly fell ill again, though this time the culprit was poison, and she didn't recover.

Edward was inconsolable after both Akelda and his foster-sister Helena passed away within such a short period of time.

jay graves. bi. she/her. late 20s - early 30s. see micah graves. after she aged out, jay got a series of jobs bartending. she feels a lot of responsibility for her twin brother, micah. she’s the life of the party and loves to drink; she’s a yapper and a bit of an oversharer. she’s also always bumming cigarettes and vape hits off her friends without ever buying her own.

aster lovelace. bi. she/her. mid - late 20s. aster spent her childhood moving place to place, running from her dad; the abusive cop continued to track them down, over and over, and when she turned 18 she changed her name and committed to a life on the road. she rarely stops for long, never keeps the same mode of transportation for long, and tries to mix up her appearance whenever possible. she’s friendly and witty, quick to laugh and full of wanderlust.

charlotte ‘charlie’ dresden. lesbian. she/her. mid 30s. charlie is a known and wanted art thief, striking private collections and museums across the world. no one knows what she looks like, no one knows her real name, and no one knows where she’ll strike next.

Jon Arryn had three marriages. One was his cousin Rowena Arryn. He had a only child with his Tully wife Lysa(a rehead). Kind of foreshadowing for Jonsa.

👀 I guess Jon + Lysa = JonSa, just a different Sa

Jon Snow seems like he was named for Jon Arryn, so it isn’t a stretch to think he might parallel him in some other way. Arryn did marry a cousin Rowena, though she died childless of a winter chill, and his first wife Jeyne Royce died in childbirth with a daughter, which I hope aren’t parallels to Jonsa; same with Lysa marrying a man old enough to be her grandfather (one aspect of Jonsa I like is they’re age appropriate), having 8 miscarriages/stillbirths and one sickly boy Robert, and she later poisoned him under the direction of her object of infatuation (her father’s ward/her ex foster brother). There’s some similarities in parts of the story to a potential JonSa match (cousin marriage, both wanting a son like Robb, the old foster brother), but since JonSa is a reconstruction of many unhappy/less than perfect ASOIAF couples, most of the details won’t play out.

Adrien reaches out to Lora and tells them about the little girls they're fostering. Lora and Castis talk about it, and decide to adopt them and raise them together.

Could she raise two children with her father-in-law? Is that a fair thing to ask of him? There are many orphans across the galaxy in search of families - Adrien himself has adopted three young children. His wife, Tullia, leads the turian adoption program and has encouraged non-conventional family structures if it means getting a stable home for a child. Lots of older turians have opted to become parents again in order to do their part.

Would a father and daughter raising children be so strange?

Adrien has attached a photo of the girls - Scarlett has big blue eyes and a thick head of red curls. Rowena’s hide and plates are the same colour as Adrien’s and her eyes are a vivid blue.

The same blue as Garrus’ eyes.

Chapter 108

Then she waves a hand and, just like that, the cell doors unlock and swing open. “Now, you leave.”

Chapter 108 summary: Delilah tries to defend her actions by saying that she did what she needed to survive as a woman a thousand years ago. Grace is quick to call her out, saying that she willingly lay with a man who abused her, and then watched as not one but three children were tortured for centuries thanks to Cyrus’s quest for more and more power.

She then offers one thing she knows Delilah can’t refuse: revenge. Delilah scoffs over the idea, but Grace tells her that she’s tired of people underestimating her. This convinces Delilah.

Grace makes her promise to release all of the students and staff from Katsmere, as well as anybody else in the prison. That they’ll go to the witch court, and work on their revenge from there. Delilah opens the prison door.

Chapter 109

“Cyrus needs to use the God Stone at Katmere at midnight—it’s the super blood moon lunar eclipse, the only one this year.”

How convenient that the plot-relevant event is tonight, and not 15 years from now.

“Katmere?” I ask, my heart hurting at the memory of all that rubble. “Katmere’s gone.”

Delilah arches a brow at me. “There’s an altar just down the path to the west of Katmere, past a giant tree. That’s all I know, but I would suggest doing whatever you plan on doing before he gets there.”

The building at the location doesn’t matter. I’m pretty sure Cyrus could do it in the parking lot of a Circle K.

Which is about the truest thing I’ve heard in a long time. Because not only do we have to convince Izzy to come with us—we need to do it before she screams to her father that we’re in the middle of an escape.

Chapter 109 summary: Delilah pointedly tells the group that her boys didn’t inherit their powers from their father. She also informs them that Cyrus is going to activate the god stone at midnight at an altar near Katmere.

They leave, although Hudson has to carry Rowena out. However, when they get to the gate, Rowena starts to scream out. The others might be free to leave, but not Rowena. Grace asks what the promise she made to the crone was, and her aunt tells her: to bring the Crone’s daughter back to her.

They realise with horror that the “witch” Cyrus sired a child with wasn’t simply anybody, but the crone.

Chapter 110

My heart breaks when I think of Gwen, kind, brilliant, talented Gwen, maybe dying down there.

To be honest, I’m not even sure who TF Gwen even is.

We stop for a couple of minutes to fill Remy in on the plan, then go our separate ways—Remy back to round up the others and deliver Uncle Finn and Hudson to the wells, and me back to Macy and Aunt Ro.

Chapter 110 summary: This is another one of those tedious filler chapters, where they stand around and talk about the plan without actually doing a goddamned thing.

Points of relevance: Hudson has to go get the injured kids that Cyrus threw down into the well. They’re going to kidnap Izzy. Finn knows that they’re going to go for the tears. Remy is filled in on their plan.

Chapter 111

It’s the only warning we’re going to get, and we spring into action.

Chapter 111 summary: Everybody else manages to leave, but all of the named characters stay behind. Delilah shows up, and she’s like “It’s not my fault you’re all too stupid to leave.” The others eventually convince her that she should help them with one last thing. The only reason why Delilah agrees to help them lure Izzy down is simply because Izzy isn’t actually her child, but a painful reminder of Cyrus’s cheating.

Batangas State University - TNEU celebrated the 120th founding anniversary.

ICYMI: Cardinal Gaudencio B. Rosales, the archbishop emeritus of Manila together with Fr. Juan Carlos Coloso presided the Holy Mass on the first day of the 120th Foundation Anniversary celebration of Batangas State University-The National Engineering University Pablo Borbon campus held at Gov. Feliciano ‘Sanoy’ Leviste Memorial Multipurpose gymnasium, Oct. 18. Attendees of the mass included the family members of Don Pablo Z. Borbon, senior and junior officials of Pablo Borbon and its extension campuses, faculty members, employees and students. An ecumenical and interreligious prayer service led by Rev. Felix Zaide was also held right after the mass.

Afterwards, Fr. Coloso officiated the blessing of the newly constructed four-level parking lot attended by officials, teaching, and non-teaching personnel as they lighted candles to signify their participation to the event.

ICYMI: Farm to Pablo Borbon Market Fair dubbed 'Barakahan' officially opened as part of the three-day celebration of 120th Founding Anniversary of BatStateU-The NEU spearheaded by Dr. Charmaine I. Triviño, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Daryl M. Magpantay, Vice Chancellor for Research, Development and Extension Services, Dr. Lucille D. Evangelista, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Vaberlie P. Mandane-Garcia, Director for Extension Services at the University grounds, October 18.

In adherence to Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger, 17 trade fair participants including local farmers, artisans and university staff showcased freshly produced products and crafts with the aim of promoting healthy living while celebrating agriculture as well as fostering connections between the Pablo Borbon community and local agricultural producers.

On the other hand, adjacent to the Farm to PB booths, Student Organizations Fair also opened with eight participating stalls. Generated income will be used to support the indigent students and other related activities.

The trade fair will continue selling products and exhibiting crafts until Friday, October 20.
