Who is Levi O. Smith?
Levi is one of my spouse's great-grandfathers. He was born in Indian Territory (McAlester, Pittsburg County), Oklahoma, USA in 1898. At 20 years old, he married his first wife, Opal Alsus Jackson, 17 years old, on 1 Jun 1918 in Holtville, Imperial County, California, USA. They had their first child, a son named Eugene Ellis Smith, in October of 1919. Eugene was followed by the birth of Louis M. Smith in 1921, then Raymond Leroy Smith in February of 1924. Sometime around the beginning of 1925, Opal became pregnant with Vivian Louise Smith.
Opal Alsus Jackson
Opal was born in 1901 in Oklahoma, USA. In 1910, she and her birth family were listed on two census recordsâone under General Population and one under Indian Population. On the General Population record, she, her mother, and her siblings were listed as white while her father was listed as Indian. On the Indian Population record, her father was listed as Indian, her mother was listed as white, and she and her siblings were listed as half-Indian, half-white.
According to events detailed by The Bulletin (Pomona, Los Angeles County, California, USA) and Riverside Daily Press (Riverside, Riverside County, California, USA) newspapers, respectively, indicate that the tragedy of Opal Alsus Jackson began on 17 Oct 1925.
While starting a fire at her mother's home in Corona, Riverside County, California, USA, Opal sent her 3 or 4-year-old son Louis to fetch her kerosene. Instead, Louis mistakenly brought back a jar of gasoline. This resulted in an explosion that set the house, and her clothes, aflame.
Despite her condition, the pregnant and burning Opal managed to get all three of her children out of the house before she "fell into the flames". Eugene and Raymond's conditions were never noted and Levi wasn't mentioned at all, but devastatingly, Louis succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. "At almost the hour of his death", Opal gave birth to Vivian, who seemed healthy and suffered no ill effects from the traumatic situation that resulted in her birth. Louis was laid to rest four days later.
Opal was admitted to Cothe Rona Hospital (which I cannot locate) where her chances of recovery were described optimistically due to her having "such remarkable recuperative power". It was stated that 80% (or, alternatively, 4/5ths) of the surface of her body was severely burned. She stayed in the gray zone between life and death for just over a month before "unfavorable symptoms developed". She succumbed to her injuries on the morning of 21 Nov 1925 at just 24 years old. She was laid to rest with Louis the next day, and they now share a gravemarker.
Her baby daughter, Vivian, lived to be 89 years old with a husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. According to her obituary, she served as a civilian staff car driver at an Ontario, CA military base during WWII, and she worked for 40+ years "for General Electric, both the Iron Plant downtown Ontario and the Aircraft at the Ontario Airport". It appears she lived a full, healthy, and happy life. She was preceded in death by Eugene, Raymond, and her half-brother, Jay, as well as her husband and her son.
Raymonde Victorine Louise Aubry
Raymonde was born in 1912 in France, Europe. She immigrated in late 1986 from Paris, Ăle-de-France, France, Europe at 13 years old aboard the S.S. Niagara with her parents and little sister. Their destination was Ontario, CA, but they made port in Galveston, Galveston County, Texas, USA on 4 Oct 1926, and must have navigated northwest to California afterward.
Next, she appears as "Ramon" in a 1930 census in Ontario, CA as the 17-year-old new bride of 31-year-old Levi Smith, with Eugene, Raymond, and Vivian in their household and listed their children. It was recorded that she could read and write, spoke English, and also spoke French at home before she immigrated. Over the following years, she and Levi birthed their children: a daughter, Lela Faye Smith, and two sons, Jay Loren and Jimmy Dale Smith.
I've gathered from articles in The Los Angeles Times, The Pomona Progress Bulletin, and The San Bernardino County Sun that Raymonde's tragedy started when Levi picked her up from Sunday church on the evening of 30 Jul 1939.
He told Deputy Coroner W. J. Weller that shortly after the service, Raymonde allegedly began to accuse Levi of adultery while she was attending church. He insisted that after he dropped her off at 7:15 p.m. he visited a beer parlor until it was time to retrieve her at 9:15 p.m.
Later that night, Raymonde joined Levi in the bedroom and he heard her whisper "goodbye" to her 3-year-old son (and youngest child), Jimmy. He then asked her where she was going, to which she replied, "I've done it. I've taken poison."
Levi immediately took her to the hospital where she was declared dead on arrival at just 26 years old. It was later reported by Coroner R. E. Williams that she'd ingested strychnineâthe poison, which Deputy Coroner Weller alleged she'd taken in three previous death attempts, was referred to by one article as a "fatal potion". Levi claimed the poison was used to exterminate gophers and that Raymonde knew where it was kept. He also admitted that she'd threatened to ingest the poison when they were arguing, but he hadn't believed her until she told Jimmy goodbye.
Williams stated an inquest into her death would likely be unnecessary, and her death was ruled as death by suicide via poisoning. She was laid to rest five days later.
What happened to Levi?
After being a farmer since 1918, Levi became an irrigator at a tree nursery by 1940 before becoming a truck driver of farm produce by 1941.
On 21 Feb 1941, 42-year-old Levi was fatally injured in an accident while falling from a truck. His death certificate states he died of shock due to a brain aneurysm created by a brain hemorrhage three miles east of Perryville, Maricopa County, Arizona, USA. A newspaper article named Buckeye, Maricopa County, Arizona, USA as his place of death, which is approximately 3 miles east of Perryville.
Levi was buried in the same cemetery as his second wife, Raymonde. While they didn't end up in the same section, their sections butt up against each other.
34 years later, his 40-year-old son Jay, a truck driver for Midwest Growers Association, would die in a trucking accident "25 miles east of Lordsburg" in Grant County, New Mexico, USA. I believe he died on I-70 in Wilna, Grant County, New Mexico, USA.
That's all, for now!

In The Dark
Don't be afraid Show me your true form, Your demons, monsters, and phantoms Show me your raging storm
Don't be afraid Show me who you truly are What your demons are capable of Show me what's in your heart
Don't be afraid To show me who you are in the dark When the lights are low, and you're alone And nothing nearby can give you a spark
Don't be afraid Show me the whole of you Hideous or not, I assure you This demon will always accept and love everything about you.

Trevor Noah Hosts Black Theater Night At A Strange Loop
Tuesday night Trevor Noah hosted Black Theater Night on Broadway at A Strange Loop. The television host loves the show and has seen it multiple times. "Iâve now been to A Strange Loop four times and itâs funny [but] every single time I come I feel like Iâm focusing on something different, Iâm learning something different and thereâs a different part of the play that almost gets revealed to me." Playwright, Composer and Lyricist Michael R. Jackson, creator of A Strange Loop; Choreographer Raja Feather Kelly and Musical Director Rona Siddiqui joined Noah and cast members James Jackson, Jr.; L Morgan Lee; John-Michael Lyles; John-Andrew Morrison; Jon-Michael Reese; Jaquel Spivey and Jason Veasey for the discussion.
Noah also said: âWhat I find interesting about it, in particular, is the first time you watch the play, for instance, you may think, depending on who you are, âOh, this is a play about Black and white.â The second time you watch it you may go, âOh no. This is a play about religion and how it controls peopleâs lives and how it tells us how we should be or shouldnât be.â Then it becomes about acceptance. Each time it feels like there is a different layer. And really, the more I watch it, I realize it almost feels like a commentary on all these little prisons, all these structures, all these systems and I guess the most confining one being our minds.â
A Strange Loop will play for seven more weeks before the final show on January 15th, 2023. Michael R. Jackson's Pulitzer-prize-winning play centers around Usher who is a queer Black writer writing a musical about a queer Black writer writing a musical.

ANOTHER TAG ASHJHJASD
extra long tag game (aka a tmi that no one particularly cares for)
tagged by @txthearteuâ
tagging @markhyucknorenminchenjiâ @qtsoobinâ @beomberryâ @txtdiariesâ and other people who wanna do it idk
ONE
tell me the first song that made you stan your current fave group and why did your faves attract you so much?
of course, none other than king943 hSJADJSAJHAS. Heâs a little secret Iâll let you all in on: the first person I actually noticed in TXT was,,,,,,, Kang Taehyun hSDHJAHJSDAHSA but he wasnât my bias. I just thought he was cute (also amused me bc my BTS bias was Taehyung and I found a guy named Taehyun cute), but I didnât stan them then. I started stanning when I saw ONE DREAM.TXT where they talked to BTS and found them really cute and endearing. Looking into them, they were wild, and chaotic and so fun and also i got rEAAAALLY attached to Soobin. So here I am. There u go, my stanning story.
TWO
rule: answer the ten questions and write your own!
whatâs your unrealistic goal for life?
becoming a famous actress or singer hJSHADJSA
if you had known that we would be in a global pandemic, whatâs one thing that you wouldâve done before things shut down (if they have for you)?
Went to a theme park. I miss going to theme parks đĽş
whatâs an unconventional thing that you carry around with you when you go out?
hmmm most of the time i just go out with just my phone and money unless I need to bring a bag due to safety concerns/more items needed. So Iâd say nothing unconventional.
favourite type of plushies and why?
God do I seem boring hsahsajjsa but i wasnât too big on plushies. I had a gigantic teddy bear named Justin when I was a kid (itâs a bear with shades that my brother gave me) and I used to buy plushies whenever Iâm in disneyland, itâs all in my sisterâs reading lounge. The only plushie in my room now is a Mollang doll wearing like a blue shirt/dress, itâs my favorite rn Itâs squishyyyy
favourite song right now?
right now, itâs Work It by Sabrina Carpenter.
something that youâve always wanted to learn?
Dancing (i literally suck. i have no idea how. no joke), Vocal Lessons (had some lessons briefly for like a year but i stopped and want to take some again), music production, acting, hosting
tell a funny story about yourself (or just something that youâve witnessed)
ok okok so one time in our class groupchat we were talking about class elections for officers. There were muse votes and some people were saying they want me to be the muse but i didnt want to bc i was busy with work. Then they started saying that they want me to be the muse and this guy that i rejected be the escort. while this is happening, i was simping hard for soobin in another chat. anyways, i got everything mixed up and accidentally sent the soobin simp stuff to the class chat and everyone thought i was simping for the classmate i rejected i was so asHAMED.
headphones or speakers? why?
speakers! idk i just like blastic the music loud.
craving any food right now? what are you craving?
anything with cheese
which music streaming platform do you prefer? why?
spotify since its free for me askjjksad someone pays for my subscription lmaooo
đâď¸
questions from cj to me:
android or apple? why?
APPLE because im loyal đ and i guess im just used to it so its easier to use for me + all my gadgets at home are mac
words of affirmation or physical affection? why?
I think there should be a good balance of both. The words will have the ability to give you this sense of comfort and satisfaction and you know just overall a peace of mind when you hear the right words??? and physical affection bc sometimes itâs just better to get a hug or a kiss isntead of talking yk? actions speak louder than words sometimes
bean bag or rocking chair? why?
Honestly, this would depend. If Iâm reading a book and feeling very vintage with a hot cup of coffee, definitely a rocking chair. If Iâm watching TV and basically just chilling Iâd go for Bean Bag. I like maintaining the atmosphere.
do you view a half-filled glass as half-full or half-empty or an in-between? why? (go as deep as you can)
I view it as in-between, because thereâs always room for improvement. Thereâs always things to change, and consider, and make better. Thereâs no such thing as perfect.
If someone were to grant your wish right now, what would it be and why?
Please stop corona right now and let everyone go back to their daily lives and please let me attend a TXT concert bls im begging on my kNEES
if someone were to give you anything you want right now, what would it be and why? (something that can be held)
Give me Soobin I just want to give him a hug. this is valid i can hold him
favorite season and why
Winter! Even if Iâve never experienced snow or winter before, the whole idea of snow is just really fun and endearing to me. One of my bucketlists is to see snow in real life. I think it has to do with the fact that Iâve always been this person to prefer the cold over heat.
what made you enter tumblr?
Iâve always been here! Just not in kpop tumblr. Iâve since deleted my old accounts and shame but i came back to write. Itâs always been so stress-relieving to me, to write without any expectations on my back because Iâm thinking about grades or a competition. Also Soobin simping is a daily thing and I gotta release it somewhere man
are you happy with where you are in life right now? why or why not?
Yes. I may not be the richest or the prettiest, or smartest or whatever, but I have a good family that loves me. I have good friends that support me and I have TXT and BTS to help me cope when things get overwhelming. I have a job that gives me a little bit of income (itâs not too common for college students here to get jobs like in the US, most of them just focus on acads) and all the means to continue my education amidst the pandemic. So really, Iâm grateful for where I am now.
to see the boys in real life but for it to happen only once in your lifetime, or to meet the boys via online fan meeting as many times as you can in your lifetime? why?
Why do you have to do me dirty cj,,,,, prolly online. I may not get to hug them or anything but I get to talk to them still. As may times as I want to. And as a girl whose sanity literally just depends on Soobin giggles rn itâll be very therapeutic to me to see them and talk to them as much as I could, even just through a screen.
QUESTIONS FROM ME TO YOU:
Cinema or Netflix? Why?
Fire or Rain? Why?
Whatâs the worst experience youâve had as a KPOP stan?
How do you handle stress?
Favorite Disney Princess and why?
Which fictional character do you say you relate the most to?
How did you get into KPOP?
What kind of merch you got đ
Would you date a KPOP idol? What would you do if you do date one? (doesnt have to be your bias, just wanna see what yâall would do)
Would you rather be with someone you love but doesnât love you back or be with someone that loves yu but you donât love them back? (Or, as the Filipinos would say, Mahal ko o Mahal Ako)

âFrom the Great Depression of the 1930s to the COVID crisis, the Billy Rose Theatre Division perseveres and preserves the greatest treasures of theatrical history," said Doug Reside, curator of the Billy Rose Theatre Division. "As I look back on the last 90 years of our history, I'm struck by how our division has managed to document almost every aspect of the creative process and the people who bring theatre to life. I am so grateful for the opportunity to celebrate our first 90 years in such spectacular fashion, and to the theatre community for its support. As we plan for the next 90 years and beyond, my hope is that the collection continues to grow and flourish and reflect the diversity of voices that have shaped the theatre as we know it and are shaping its future.â âThe Billy Rose Theatre Division has served as the collective memory for our community by capturing the ephemeral nature of our unique art form. Until we can all experience the joy of live theatre again, we are thrilled to look back into the archives to highlight theatrical masterpieces from their vast collection,â added producers Julie Boardman and Nolan Doran. âOur hope is to raise funds to ensure the archives remain accessible to future theatre makers for generations to come.â
The virtual benefit is produced and conceived by Boardman and Doran and features direction by Steve Broadnax, Sammi Cannold, Nick Corley, Ty Defoe, Lorin Latarro, Mia Walker, and Jason Michael Webb, choreography by Ayodele Casel, Latarro, and Ray Mercer, with new music arranged by Rachel Dean and Annastasia Victory, arrangements and orchestrations by Brian Usifer, and casting by Peter Van Dam at Tara Rubin Casting.
Tickets are donate-what-you-can, with a recommendation of at least $19.31 in honor of the year the division was founded. Visit StillHereat90.com

St. Jericho is a school like no other. An elite private college that takes hell to get into and an application process that seems to scream insanity. It has been around for a long time and itâs beautiful campus is surrounded by woods and an odd lakes. The school has a secret though. Inside it houses hundreds of young and old supernatural creatures, catering to their needs as well as classes on how to protect themselves. The school caters to all supernatural creatures in hopes to make sure the races survive. ITâs been a bit intense lately since the school last year closed early due to hunters getting in and attacking the students. Now that itâs a new year the school has changed, more protection added. Staff has been added that specialize in helping students. The hope is to bring the school to something normal again.

Dad Letter 082320
23 August, 2020
Dear Dad--
Another week of quarantine! There was just a big Covid outbreak in Millinocket, Maine, because of a wedding reception at the (no shit) Big Moose Inn; something like 58 people got it. The past week has been uneventful. Itâs starting to seem like summer is over here, and our highs are going to be in the 70s and 80s for the foreseeable future. The window unit we purchased is no longer needed. Have I ever mentioned the weather-related part of The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown that always confused me? In the Charlie Brown Halloween special, towards the end, Lucy wakes up at 3:00 in the morning and realizes Linus never went to bed. So she gets dressed, goes out to the pumpkin patch where she knows her stupid brother is waiting for the Great Pumpkin. When she gets there, Linus is asleep under his security blanket, and heâs shivering because heâs freezing. Thatâs the part that always made me think, âBut itâs not that cold in October.â I suppose part of me understood that Peanuts was set in the twin cities area of Minnesota, where freezing cold in October is somewhat standard. Now that I'm surrounded by yankees, it all fits.
And itâs been over 100 in Austin all this past week. Part of me feels apologetic to everyone still in Texas. âSorry about your heat, dudes,â but another part of me thinks, âWe came here to escape that, and we succeeded, so...eat it, losers.â Everyone down there can take their turn being smug when itâs January and weâre paying $450 a month to heat this tin can. Of course, by then, weâll be covered in snow, which we still (despite all evidence to the contrary) find magical and wonderful. And before then weâll have a beautiful autumn too. Autumn is when we showed up here last year; and itâs everything we hoped autumn in New England would be. Itâs ridiculously pretty, and every little town has some sort of delightful harvest festival. Iâm not sure what they harvest here, but itâs either blueberries or canoes. (Yeah, canoe harvest. Why not?) Canoes are a big deal here because thereâs a large canoe making and selling establishment that (it would seem) is the biggest business in town, and the only one with some world renown. A woman just moved into the trailer next door to ours, and she works there.Â
That was an interesting story. Our next door neighbor used to be Clint, right? The crazy cat guy who gave us our new kitten. Well, the management of this trailer park stuck another trailer between his and ours, and this fishing woman, and her mom, and their two little asswipe dogs, and a fishing kayak have moved into it. Her kayak had all kinds of stickers on it, like sponsorship logos on a race car, and it had her name on it. I did a quick search on the internet and found her. She works at that canoe place, sheâs a professional boater and fisher, and sheâs my new neighbor.Â
I happen to know that Iâm a nice person, so occasionally I do things that I think may scare the shit out of a stranger, until they realize how nice I am. So I sent our new neighbor lady a message online. I said something like, âHey! Donât freak, but I think you just moved into the trailer next to me. Welcome to the neighborhood!â Zach did not like that I did that! Zach was, I think, looking at it from the fisher-ladyâs perspective, thinking, âIâve lived here for four hours, and the creepy neighbor guy is stalking me.â (This, obviously, is why I prefaced my message with the suggestion that she not freak!) I could see Zachâs point, but, again, since I know my motives are pure, and this fisher-woman is new to the neighborhood, and could probably use a friend, or at least someone who can answer questions, I did it anyway. Also I predict at least a 45% chance that sheâs a lesbian, based mostly on her Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.Â
After a little while, she wrote back, saying, âLOL Thatâs too funny. Did you get my name off the kayak?â I told her that was exactly right. I told her I wouldnât be coming by with a dessert item because of the coronavirus, but welcome to the neighborhood! She was appreciative, and told me it would be her and her mom living there. I told her that, when she feels like it, I could let her know who her neighbors were and answer any questions she might have. She already mentioned wondering how safe her kayak would be outside, since itâs a rather nice one that seems to be part of her profession, and is thus professional-grade. I havenât addressed that question yet. When I do, Iâll probably say something about how little I keep outside thatâs worth stealing, but...itâs Old Town, Maine. Itâs probably safe from everything but squirrel poop or stray cats making love in it. To an extent, we really are the last outpost of America before the Great White North begins. We are not a hotbed of crime.
It looks like both our cats are healthy, finally. As recently as yesterday, Samuel L. Jackson was still gunky and sneezy in the face area. Today he seems to have beaten it. This was never a huge problem, but ever since we got the new kitten, her face was gunky and sneezy. And by the time she kicked it, sheâd given it to Sam, so his face has looked all fucked up for the rest of the time weâve had the new kitten. This morning seems like the first one where neither kittyâs face is fucked up, and that feels like we won something. Hooray, we own cats whose immune system eventually defeated the kitty version of the common cold, which it wouldâve done anyway without any intervention from us! I no longer have to try to put ointment in Samâs eyes, which was an exercise in futility anyway, and only resulted in his face having MORE gunky shit on it than before.
So! My plan for the week ahead. You had some good suggestions where I could look for work. I like the idea of finding the local NPR station, or television station, and seeing if they have anything I could do. The Republican convention will be on TV and I probably wonât watch it, just as I watched approximately zero of the Democratic one. They seem unnecessary when the candidate is already known going in, unless you happen to like the spectacle, which I do not. Iâve also spent some time with my good camera lately, and will continue using it in the week ahead, because some cool hummingbirds have shown up. Iâll include a few early attempts at hummingbird art, taken yesterday.Â
More next week, and all my love to you both! Stay safe from the âRona!

Today's Birthday Horoscope: October 08, 2017 Born today, you are nothing if not a groundbreaker; you will go very far trying to do new things in new ways, pushing the present into the future with creativity, vision and tenacity. This doesn't mean, of course, that you turn a blind eye to what has gone before; on the contrary, you are a student of history -- your own and the world's -- and you know how important heritage is to who you are and what you do. You're never one to leave the past behind even as you blaze new trails and lead others toward the accomplishment of that which has never been imagined. Your tastes are eclectic, and your style even more so -- especially when young. Because you are such an original, there are no "rules" about how you do a thing; you do it the way you want to -- period! You're likely to be widely recognized for being a hard worker, but you play just as hard as you work! You may not embrace principles and ideals that are popular or widespread, and your political beliefs may actually strain credulity -- but you stand by them, no matter what, because you are always true to yourself. Popularity is not an issue for you; if you are popular, so be it -- if not, that's perfectly all right with you, too. Also Born Today: Also born on this date are: Bella Thorne, actress; Bruno Mars, singer; Matt Damon, actor; Chevy Chase, actor and comic; R.L. Stine, author; Sigourney Weaver, actress; Jesse Jackson, civil rights leader; Stephanie Zimbalist, actress; Emily Procter, actress; Paul Hogan, actor; Rona Barrett, columnist; Eddie Rickenbacker, World War I flying ace. Aries: March 21 - April 19 What you do more than once you're going to have to do again and again long after the first few tries? It's a cycle you can break eventually. Taurus: April 20 - May 20 Keep your eyes on anything that moves out there in front of you; if anything starts to turn on you in any way, you'll have to act fast! Gemini: May 21 - June 21 Someone younger than yourself is likely to display a kind of wisdom from which you can benefit directly -- if you'll only listen. Cancer: June 22 - July 22 You can find success today where others fell short, and your secret is in the way you look at things from different, unusual angles. Leo: July 23 - Aug 22 You can rise above much that is happening all around you -- but you mustn't ignore those who come to you for assistance. Make yourself available. Virgo: Aug 23 - Sept 22 You can do much to make things easier and clearer to those who are tangled in webs of their own making. Still, you can't do everything! Libra: Sept 23 - Oct 22 You may want to disguise yourself in some way today so that your overt efforts aren't immediately identified. What do you have to hide? Scorpio: Oct 23 - Nov 21 What you want right now may not be available to you until tomorrow or the next day. How are you going to pass the time until then? Sagittarius: Nov 22 - Dec 21 What you become involved in today may prove more difficult than you may have expected -- but you're not yet in over your head. Capricorn: Dec 22 - Jan 19 You'll want to lay out certain plans before the day is out. Your goals are clear-cut, but the way to reach them may still be rather fuzzy. Aquarius: Jan 20 - Feb 18 Your unique point of view allows you to make a decision that others have avoided for quite some time. You can unite them all under your banner. Pisces: Feb 19 - March 20 You may have a hard time justifying your behavior to someone who has been watching over you lately. Don't invite threats or danger.

The Good Men revista Project disse do Brooklyn.

RugbyU: Confident Springboks put Wallabies to the test
Australia's Wallabies face an acid test against the rejuvenated Springboks in the Rugby Championship on Saturday to gauge whether they are on the rise after taking the All Blacks to the limit.
The world champion New Zealanders had to pull out all the stops to overcome Australia 35-29 with a try two minutes from time in Dunedin a fortnight ago.
The Wallabies have already lost the trans-Tasman Bledisloe Cup series, but take on the regenerated Springboks in Perth, with the South Africans yet to lose in 2017.
Fly-half Bernard Foley said every member of the Wallabies' squad knew the importance of not undoing all their good work from Dunedin against the South Africans.
"I think that's probably been a hurdle of Wallaby teams in the past, is not being able to be consistent," Foley said.
"We've definitely spoken (about) that and challenged every player to go up a level from where he was in Dunedin."
While the Springboks have vanquished Argentina and France over five internationals this year they have not beaten the Wallabies in Australia since their 38-12 romp in Brisbane in 2013.
It has been a torrid year for Australia, winning only two of their five internationals and coming off a miserable Super Rugby season climaxed by the contentious axing of Perth-based Western Force from next year's competition.
There have been reports that the Perth rugby public may boycott the Test on Saturday as a way of protesting against the Australian Rugby Union's vexed decision to cull the Force, or wear their blue Western Force jerseys instead of the Wallabies' gold.
"Playing in your home town in front of your club team fans and Wallaby fans, it's a very special occasion," Wallabies and Force lock Adam Coleman said.
"The fans in Western Australia are amazing. I'm sure they'll turn out in numbers."
- Desire to get better -
The Wallabies are looking to stifle the Springboks playmaker and fly-half Elton Jantjies, who has been impressive in his team's two wins over Argentina so far in the Rugby Championship.
"For us shutting him down is not allowing him momentum, doing the job up front, pushing him backwards and that probably takes down his time and space," Foley said of his opposite number.
Scrum-half Ross Cronje has overcome an ankle injury and partners Jantjies with Francois Hougaard dropping back to the reserves.
In the only other change to the starting team, Pieter-Steph du Toit comes in at lock for Franco Mostert.
"Even though we travelled to three continents in 10 days, this group has the desire to get better, and learn from previous experiences," coach Allister Coetzee said Thursday.
"The Wallabies are a well-coached side, with great deception on attack. Their playmakers and strike runners complement each other very well and we will have to be very sharp on defence.
"If you look at their performances against New Zealand, you will see how well they have functioned in scoring nine tries and 63 points in two matches."
Wallabies coach Michael Cheika made four changes to his starting XV with Tatafu Polota-Nau at hooker, Sekope Kepu at tight-head prop, Adam Coleman at lock and Reece Hodge on the left wing.
The Australians are without their 122-Test hooker Stephen Moore, back at home awaiting the birth of his third child, while winger Dane Haylett-Petty is out for three months following biceps surgery.

Mark Bowden with HUE 1968 Thursday, August 17, 2017 â 5:00pm
The first battle book from Mark Bowden since his #1 New York Times bestseller Black Hawk Down, Hue 1968 is the story of the centerpiece of the Tet Offensive and a turning point in the American War in Vietnam. In the early hours of January 31, 1968, the North Vietnamese launched over one hundred attacks across South Vietnam in what would become known as the Tet Offensive. The lynchpin of Tet was the capture of Hue, Vietnamâs intellectual and cultural capital, by 10,000 National Liberation Front troops who descended from hidden camps and surged across the city of 140,000. Within hours the entire city was in their hands save for two small military outposts. American commanders refused to believe the size and scope of the Frontâs presence, ordering small companies of marines against thousands of entrenched enemy troops. After several futile and deadly days, Lieutenant Colonel Ernie Cheatham would finally come up with a strategy to retake the city, block by block and building by building, in some of the most intense urban combat since World War II.
With unprecedented access to war archives in the U.S. and Vietnam and interviews with participants from both sides, Bowden narrates each stage of this crucial battle through multiple viewpoints. Played out over 24 days and ultimately costing 10,000 lives, the Battle of Hue was by far the bloodiest of the entire war. When it ended, the American debate was never again about winning, only about how to leave. Hue 1968 is a gripping and moving account of this pivotal moment.
About the Author
Mark Bowden is the author of thirteen books, including the #1 New York Times bestseller Black Hawk Down. He reported at the Philadelphia Inquirer for twenty years and now writes for the Atlantic, Vanity Fair, and other magazines. He is also the writer in residence at the University of Delaware. Ladee Hubbard with THE TALENTED RIBKINS Tuesday, August 22, 2017 â 5:00pm
At seventy-two, Johnny Ribkins shouldnât have such problems: Heâs got one week to come up with the money he stole from his mobster boss or itâs curtains. What may or may not be useful to Johnny as he flees is that he comes from an African-American family that has been gifted with super powers that are a bit, well, odd. Okay, very odd. For example, Johnnyâs father could see colors no one else could see. His brother could scale perfectly flat walls. His cousin belches fire. And Johnny himself can make precise maps of any space you name, whether heâs been there or not. In the old days, the Ribkins family tried to apply their gifts to the civil rights effort, calling themselves The Justice Committee. But when their, eh, superpowers proved insufficient, the group fell apart. Out of frustration Johnny and his brother used their talents to stage a series of burglaries, each more daring than the last. Fast forward a couple decades and Johnnyâs on a race against the clock to dig up loot heâs stashed all over Florida. His brother is gone, but he has an unexpected sidekick: his brotherâs daughter, Eloise, who has a special superpower of her own. Inspired by W. E. B. Du Boisâs famous essay âThe Talented Tenthâ and fuelled by Ladee Hubbardâs marvelously original imagination, The Talented Ribkins is a big-hearted debut novel about race, class, politics, and the unique gifts that, while they may cause some problems from time to time, bind a family together.Â
About the Author
Laddee Hubbard is the winner of the 2016 Rona Jaffe Foundation Writerâs Award and the William Faulkner-William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition for the Short Story. She lives in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Talented Ribkins is her first novel.

Anne Gisleson with THE FUTILITARIANS Wednesday, August 30, 2017 â 5:00pm
A memoir of friendship and literature chronicling a search for meaning and comfort in great books, and a beautiful path out of grief Anne Gisleson had lost her twin sisters, had been forced to flee her home during Hurricane Katrina, and had witnessed cancer take her beloved father. Before she met her husband, Brad, he had suffered his own trauma, losing his partner and the mother of his son to cancer in her young thirties. âHow do we keep moving forward,â Anne asks, âamid all this loss and threat?â The answer: âWe do it together.â Anne and Brad, in the midst of forging their happiness, found that their friends had been suffering their own losses and crises as well: loved ones gone, rocky marriages, tricky childrearing, jobs lost or gained, financial insecurities or unexpected windfalls. Together these resilient New Orleanians formed what they called the Existential Crisis Reading Group, jokingly dubbed âThe Futilitarians.â From Epicurus to Tolstoy, from Cheever to Amis to Lispector, each month they read and talked about identity, parenting, love, mortality, and life in post-Katrina New Orleans, gatherings that increasingly fortified Anne and helped her blaze a trail out of her well-worn grief. Written with wisdom, soul, and a playful sense of humor, The Futilitarians is a guide to living curiously and fully, and a testament to the way that even from the toughest soil of sorrow, beauty and wonder can bloom.Â
About the Author
Anne Gislesonâs work has appeared in The Atlantic, The Oxford American, The Believer, Ecotone, The Los Angeles Times, and has been selected for inclusion in several anthologies, including Best American Non-Required Reading. For years, Anne was chair of the Creative Writing Program at the internationally-renowned New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. In 2005, she co-founded Antenna in New Orleans, where she lives.

Catherine Lacey with THE ANSWERS
Thursday, August 31, 2017 â 6:00pm Thacker Mountain Radio
An urgent, propulsive novel about a woman learning to negotiate her ailment and its various aftereffects via the simulacrum of a perfect romantic relationship
In Catherine Laceyâs ambitious second novel we are introduced to Mary, a young woman living in New York City and struggling to cope with a body that has betrayed her. All but paralyzed with pain, Mary seeks relief from a New Agey treatment called Pneuma Adaptive Kinesthesia, PAKing for short. And, remarkably, it works. But PAKing is prohibitively expensive and Mary is dead broke. So she scours Craigslist for fast-cash jobs and finds herself applying for the Girlfriend Experiment, the brainchild of an eccentric and narcissistic actor, Kurt Sky, who is determined to find the perfect relationship even if that means paying different women to fulfill distinctive roles. Mary is hired as the Emotional Girlfriend certainly better than the Anger Girlfriend or the Maternal Girlfriend and is pulled into Kurtâs ego-driven and messy attempt at human connection.
Told in her signature spiraling prose, The Answers is full of the singular yet universal insights readers have come to expect from Lacey. It is a gorgeous hybrid of the plot- and the idea-driven novel that will leave you reeling.
About the Author
Catherine Lacey is the author of Nobody Is Ever Missing, winner of a 2016 Whiting Award and a finalist for the New York Public Libraryâs Young Lions Fiction Award, and The Answers. In 201, she was named one of Grantaâs Best Young American Novelists. Her essays and fiction have been published widely and translated into Italian, French, Dutch, Spanish, and German.
