So yeah, he'll make a show of gagging Daniel for some peace and quiet, but how long do you think he can stand the silence? He'll turn on his mind gift like he's checking his phone and keep drifting back to argue with Daniel's thoughts. It's like enrichment in his enclosure. Eventually Daniel is gonna spit out the loosely-tied-but-still-tight-enough-for-plausible-deniability gag and run his mouth again, leaving Armand with no choice but to shut him up with his tongue. Yk I've been rewatching the latest ep (5) and I think there might be timeline issues

(remember I haven't read the book just a few spoilers here and there so I know he's gon fuck that old man I just don't know how or when)

Like we see armandiel being-well-

In the early stages, so to speak

And then we see armandiel so sweet after a cut from present bitch talking between old!Daniel and Dubai!Louis, like so very sweet

Hands cradling face kinda sweet and all that shit, which is a far cry from how Armand had been treating The Boy up until then, which might make one wonder why?

Especially since

Daniel says at the start of this tender exchange : in confrontation with Armand's prediction of his shitty future:

"I'm a bright young reporter with a point of view"

And we learn that it's after all this romantic bs that louis steps in and 'saves' The Boy's life playing the maitre in a fucked up roleplay of Armand's darkest years and proceeds to tell Daniel one on one to 'listen to these words as if they were from the voice of God or an angel'

"you are a bright young reporter with a point of view, if things ever get bad again these are the words that you'll hear in your mind like a tape playing over and over -"

I think louis did his little speechy thingy between Armandiel 'early stages' and the moment Armand falls in love with Daniel.

I think he's mixing the timeline up

Which would explain how, on the brick of death (things getting, admittedly, bad again for Danny then) the words spur back into his mind like Louis intended and he says them.

And I think Louis didn't save no Danny I think Armand, too in love with his fagass, and not wanting him to have the dark gift just yet, did his best to mark Danny up BC he's fucked up as we all know it and a strange lover

And yet rewrote the entire the shit so that convalescent and fucked in the brain!Louis can't get the memories of Armand fawning over Daniel back and he can still play the maître which is something that works for Armand to keep Louis for some fucked up reason.

- the moment i feel for Armand the most is when he's all 'and where does this leave me, 3 thousand years on suicide watch?' i cannot overstate how fucked up of a thing to say to someone who's just had a suicide attempt, but it's raw and honest and true. and just... the absolute horror that must be for Armand, who's entire sense of self is tied up in his responsibilities and relationships and right now that is just Louis?

- and building on that, when Armand says he deserves to eat Daniel and Louis says he knows but Armand isn't allowed to do it anyway? Louis understands what he's done to Armand from Armand's perspective! yeah. super fucked up. i'm not blaming Louis, he has his own shit to deal with and given the actual reality of their power dynamic it's kinda stupid to be pointing any fingers at Louis... but Louis pretty clearly knows this whole relationship is making Armand worse and doesn't care. And that's worth acknowledging. It's what makes their dynamic so interesting to me, actually.

- i feel quite strongly that Armand's not using his vampire powers to mess with Louis mind/memory until after 1973. But in Dubai... i think them having full on screaming matches like they do after the photo mixup (i'm siding with Armand on that one, i don't think he did it, i don't think that's what this scene is meant to show in their relationship dynamic, but that's besides the point) is a normal occurrence, and i think it's equally interesting to consider the idea that Armand erases all of them immediately and that they resolve them with sex that is icky (as in the dynamic makes both of them feel a icky afterwards) but does what it needs to do to reinforce their pretend power dynamic and they do this enough that they can just... go back to what they were doing like they didn't even have a fight.

- Jacob mentioned in some interview that he doesn't think Louis would agree to Armand editing his memories. and yeah, Jacob (actually the whole cast) has said enough deeply considered things about his character that i do prioritize his interpretation. however, i do also think that unless he's really put on the spot, Armand is a good liar and knows to stick to the truth as much as possible. there's no reason for him to have the elaborate lie of Louis agreeing to it later at a specific time and place. the interpretation that is most interesting to me is that Armand doesn't initially intend to mess with Louis' memory and, free of any vampire mind gifts, guilts Louis into it. like, Louis says something like he's not sure he can live with his guilt about Claudia and Daniel and the pain, and everything else, and Armand is like 'you still owe me for sparing Daniel, if you really mean that, you owe it to me to let me try to fix you'. and that is such a deeply fucked up thing to do but it's also so clearly from a place of care, and as selfish and self serving as Armand's care for Louis is, i think it is real and the guiding force of most of their interactions. and it works, so i'm sure Armand thinks it's entirely justified.

- i think Lestat immediately accurately judges what this relationship is going to be like but completely, wildly, wildly under estimates Armand and Louis' combined propensity for stubbornness, self-martyrdom, and general self destruction.

- i keep coming back to Armand saying that Claudia never loved Louis like he or Lestat did. and i think it's worth considering that Armand is undervaluing their relationship because it's not sexual or romantic. that feels like, given what we know of his history, a very Armand thing to do. but i really don't think that's what Louis means when he agrees. i think what Louis means is that he's self aware enough to know that he wants to be loved to the point of destruction and Claudia was always too much of her own person for that. and it kills him that he wasn't able to move past that for her. that he always put his desire for that sort of love, even though he knew it was destructive, before his also very real love for her.

- to end on a lighter note, since i learned that Lestat is essentially a bunch of random syllables Anne Rice stuck together (there's more backstory but it basically boils down to that), i've been thinking 'i bet it really bothers Armand that Lestat is not a real name'. he's the sort of person who would obsess over that.

Idk, turning Daniel at end of S2 feels a little early... He still doesn't remember any history he shared with Armand, and that would mean that there's the possibility of him getting turned without his consent. His turning in the book was described as romantic, with the whole illusion of being in the Villa of Mysteries with Armand crying... If he's turned now it would be pretty rushed, and Daniel would feel encaged (Unable now to leave Dubai, confined in the penthouse unwillingly).

It could be my opinion, but I think it would be wasted using Daniel's turning (also wasted his development of Parkinson), big point of DM in having books falling... Maybe I'm just attached with the idea of Daniel wanting the dark gift to stay with Armand forever and the big angst with Daniel slowly losing his abilities to Parkinson and Armand also hurting 🥹.

I hope I didn't come out as rude, I absolutely loved every little change they did, I think that still if they decided to go through with this it would be still done excellently (I'm now in complete trust of whatever amc will do, especially after 2x05)

I mean... his turning is often taken as romantic, yes. But what made Armand turn him there was despair. A hopelessness. He did not see another way, because Daniel was dying.

IF he would be turned now... then there would be a LOT of things play into it, and... we haven't even seen half of it. Fareed has not shown up again, the medicine, their history... and so on.

With three episodes to go and so much still coming... I feel like IF THEY SHOULD GO THERE... they might not be able to explain it all now.

But one thing's for sure - Daniel is shaking a lot and not looking too good either. And... if something else happened, that would put Daniel into mortal danger...?

I would also love for Daniel to come to realize it slowly... but I also think he did already in the past. And whatever we will see now... won't be the whole picture either. It will be a "truncated version" :)))

But yes, I also trust them to do it properly... but more than likely over the next seasons than in the least few episodes :)))

They have, and have had it from the beginning. Armand simply is not the nice guy in this tale.

And yes, I would concur, you can describe it that way, as toxic, though it is also loving. More so later though.

And I disagree that Louis didn't have free choice or agency with Lestat, that is... very short-sighted imho. Louis employed a lot of his agency in a very special way, namely by withholding - sex, affection, attention, feeding - and he did so on purpose - which is in line with the books and canon behavior(!). But that doesn't make it any less of his agency. And he did have free will - he chose to stay for example. And he chose Lestat over Claudia, again and again.

Vampires get less and less human in age, I guess you could boil that down in a way to "crazier", though that is an oversimplification. They are vampires. Remote, disconnected, powerful, hungry. They can kill you with a flick of the finger or a thought. That... changes you.

Armand is a coven master. He spent hundreds of years in a cult, more or less disassociating until Lestat came and destroyed it. Armand is manipulative, and a big mind- and spell-gift user. His and Louis' relationship is toxic in much more subtle ways (think high-hung book-cases... that's a statement, every time Louis wishes to read a book. For example - there's many, many more instances in Dubai where those abusive traits shine through the mask of Rashid).

Armand "influences" Louis, canonically. He wanted Louis precisely because he was Lestat's. He also lies to him by telling him Lestat was dead (after Paris). But I... think we will only get to see the real abusive tendencies Armand has with the Devil's Minion arc.

I repeat, Armand is not the nice guy in this tale... this tale doesn't have a nice guy. No, not even Louis.

a talented painter, the boy that would become armand is a distant memory now. one that in fact, armand can scarcely remember. he has vague memories of once loving to paint, but… a lot of it is truly lost or blurry to him. his time being sold into slavery and then later, a brothel where he suffered horrific abuse, meant that armand lost of lot of his owm memories to the trauma. in fact, the only thing he remembered more clearly was when, at 15 years old, he is saved by marius de romanus.

marius treats armand (though at the time, named amadeo) very well. he receives a good education, though, in spite of his talents, amadeo refuses to paint anymore. things are… better with marius. he notices strange things about his master, of course, and amadeo is still often gifted to his master's friends and such. but in all, amadeo adores marius. and even when he discovers the truth of his vampiric nature, he doesn't flinch.

around his 22nd year, things change for him and, after an attack from an english lord who claims to be madly in love with him, amadeo is mortally wounded by a poisoned blade. eventually, in fearing losing amadeo forever, marius gives him the dark gift and he awakens as a vampire. however, his life as a vampire alongside marius isn’t happy for long. not when the vampire santino and his coven attacks, taking amadeo away and letting him believe marius to be dead. with no other option, amadeo joins these vampires and follows their way of life, largely influenced by santino who convinces him that vampires are entirely evil and should not be allowed to live as mortals do and should hide in shame. it is here, that amadeo is renamed armand and is sent to rule over the coven in paris, residing beneath a cemetery. and he does a good job… until lestat de lioncourt enters the picture, that is, and utterly destroys all that has been built and changes coven life for good. though, in truth, armand was thankful. lestat ending things for him freed armand and allowed him to step into a new life in paris, leading the theatre of vampires.

eventually, many years later, louis and claudia come to paris. things aren’t… smooth, by any means. but armand is fascinated with louis especially and quickly falls in love. but by no means is it any easier. in fact, it complicates everything. to the point where eventually, armand has to choose: the coven, or louis. he lies, he claims to choose louis. all the while, moving things into place for what becomes: the trial of claudia, louis and madeleine.

after louis kills the entire paris coven in an act of revenge for the murder of claudia, armand ends up leaving with louis and, for years, the pair are happily in love and content as companions.

san fran, 1973, is when things change in a way armand could never have anticipated. meeting daniel molloy, his fascinating boy, is a new chapter for armand. after the events of louis and daniel’s first messy interview, armand begins to… well, in truth, stalk daniel obsessively. obviously, louis is unaware of this. they may be in love, but they do have some degree of separation in their lives and armand is able to… indulge. in truth what ends up happening is nothing short of a love affair. he can’t stay away from daniel, and they engage in something of a chase with one another, with armand tailing daniel all across the globe for months on end. armand is utterly fascinated by daniel, by learning from him, he is completely head over heels in love. and the two just can’t seem to untangle from one another. it’s messy, because of course it is, but it’s theirs.

but after five years, it’s daniel that calls it quits. they’ve fought before, but not like this. daniel, exhausted by constantly begging for the gift and being denied, ends things with armand. and in turn, rather than, ya know, be a healthy adult about it, armand blurs daniel’s memories of their time. erases it, mixes it with other memories, and wipes it away. heart broken, feeling utterly unworthy, armand retreats and imagines he will never see daniel molloy ever again.

but of course, louis had other ideas. of course he did, and in 2022 when daniel comes to dubai, armand does his best to keep distant from the interview. pretends to be human. watches closely, but still keeps himself somewhat distanced. until, again, he has to step in and reveal the truth… he just didn’t expect that the interview would end with his entire life crumbled, all of his lies revealed, and louis leaving him.

when faced with the consequences of his actions, when wrestling with the feelings he’d buried about daniel all now bursting to the surface, armand finally caves. for the first time in his life, perhaps, he is entirely weak and stripped bare before daniel.

he finally speaks the full truth.

he begs daniel not to leave and, in doing so, reveals their history. he gives daniel the memories back. and with it, an offering. a pleading, really, begging him not to leave. to be with him always, like armand had always wanted– like he had always been afraid to give daniel back in the 70s. armand offers him the dark gift, finally. not out of rebound, nor need to be alone, but because armand is consumed by a truth he has ignored for decades now: he can’t live without daniel, he doesn’t want to anymore. he could lose it all, but not daniel.

it hasn’t been easy since changing daniel, of course. they have had… a lot to work on, and they have kept it incredibly private. in fact, armand even suggested that in order to keep their relationship private a while longer, something they could work on at their own pace, that daniel misled louis. let him think armand changed daniel out of spite. the pair aren’t around one another all the time either, they both need their space after everything to adjust. armand mostly resides on the night island, but often leaves to meet daniel around the world as he has been rather busy with two best selling books.

armand, in truth, is trying. he’s attempting to lead a better life now. one of… attempted truth. one where he doesn’t perform, doesn’t act in order to please others and fit into what he thinks will gain him love and affection. it’s easier, with daniel. but hadn’t it always been?

though he imagines, given the choices of vampires like lestat right now, he won’t be able to stay sidelined for all that long.
