Rollerdrome: A Perfect Video Game

My definition of "Perfect video game" means nothing more than "perfect to me, Bread, your friendly never posts anymore guy." but Rollerdrome is a perfect video game. Rollerdrome, a game I can't believe is already over a year old, is a combo extreme sports and third person shooter game. If you've seen the movie "The Running Man", put Arnie on classic style roller skates, and you've got Rollerdrome. What Rollerdrome really has though, that vaults it straight onto my list of perfect games, is a blissful state of pure flow. The controls for Rollerdrome are smooth as butter, and the game makes perfect use of slow motion that empowers you to look incredibly cool in the moment, while leaving you hyper vulnerable after. There's varied enemy types, leaving you to figure out which weapon (everything from Lara Croft style dual pistols, to a whole ass laser gun) to use against which enemy in a demented game of Ro-Sham-Bo. There's even a giant spider mech like in the movie Wild Wild West (It may actually be a scorpion or crab, now that I think about it, pretty cool still though). To say the games motion glides along would be to make a pun about the fact the whole game takes place on Rollerskates, and I can't really think of one of those right now, so you'll really just have to take my word for it. There's a story in here too, but it really doesn't come into play much more than posing the very valid question that maybe roller skate based blood sport isn't the best thing in the world , and I don't mean that to sound dismissive, the story is well presented, it's just not much more complex than that. Nor does it have to be, it fits the tone of the game wonderfully.

I implore anyone who grew up liking Tony Hawk, third person shooters, hell even rhythm games to take a look at Rollerdrome. It's a beautifully simple game, perfect to me, and frankly, just a hell of a lot of fun.

I really like Rollerdrome so far. It took me two or three, maybe four tries to do all ten challenges in the first mission.

I wish more games were economical with their graphics like Rollerdrome. Not only does it look awsome but it was a 5gb file that i could download in the same afternoon i bought it on my shitty internet!

you don’t need a bazillion textures and lighting effects to look good. Stylisation can work too.

Oh my god, anyone with a ps4/5 please check out Rollerdrome, it is so much fun.

Basically it's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater meets the Matrix. You're a woman who is participating in this dystopia future rollerblading battle royale tournament where you gotta kill all the other players. It's single player and controls like butter; easy to learn, hard to master. They've cut down on frustration by making it impossible to stack it doing tricks and auto lock on guns for fluidity of movement. It's incredibly easy to do something that looks and feels incredibly cool.

It's also cel-shaded and you reload by doing stunts. Genuinely such a fun, innovative game and if you have PS Plus premium you can play a 30 min trial.
