Push, little dove.
||Logan Howlett x GN!Reader||
"Everything'll be okay."
You were sleeping soundly when all of a sudden your fiancée woke you up in a rush.
"It's time." Logan said, with a semi grimace on his face. You shot up in surprise.
"Already?!" You said.
He nodded.
"Bags already packed, cars all set, we're good to go." He pecked your cheek as you rushed to get somewhat ready. You were all set and decided to go check on the love of your life.
"All set, my love?" You looked at him worriedly. He cradled his stomach.
"They're feisty." He smiled and then winced in pain. You rushed to his side.
"I think this means it's time to go." He nodded in agreement and you both walked--or waddled--over to the car.
Once you arrived to maternity ward, you were quickly redirected to an open room.
"All set, bubby?" You stroked his arm lovingly.
He sighed and nodded. "I goddamn hope so." You playfully swatted him.
"You're not gonna be using that kind of language around our little howletts, are you?"
He rolled his eyes and then leaned in for a kiss.
SCREAMING.
It filled your ears like no other sound. Logan's death grip on your hand only got tighter. You tried to keep a soothing tone, but it was kind of difficult when your hand was being simultaneously broken and stabbed by his claws.
"Everything'll be okay." You winced out. He didn't seem to notice through all the pain.
Only two out of the four howletts had been born, whilst the other two were being a little more...tricky.
You tuned out Logan's sailor mouth whilst the nurse hurriedly rushed out of the room with Tim. You looked on nervously, hoping nothing bad was happening.
You were soon distracted once more when the Doctor exclaimed, "It's a girl!"
You looked at Logan, smiling. "Guess we can name her Anna Marie." He attempted a smile and then quickly shouted in pain once more.
The final baby was making its way into the world. The doctor picked it up and proclaimed, "Why is it lowkey nonbinary?"
You looked at Logan confused.
He shrugged. "At least it's out of me."
"What should we name them?" You asked. He thought for a moment.
"Eiden Ven Howlett." His eyes sparkled as he said the name.
Suddenly, the nurse rushed in.
"Are you Y/N?" You turned quickly and stood up.
"What's wrong?" You said, remembering her rushing out with little Timmy.
"He's..." She glanced at Logan.
"Well, spit it out already!" He said, anger taking over.
She nodded. "He's not breathing. Doctors are doing everything they can but..."
Your face dropped at the words. Logan tried getting up but you turned and him pushed onto the bed as gently as you could.
"I'll handle it, little dove." He looked at you, eyes full of tears.
You walked out of the hospital room, where Logan Jr., Anna Marie, and Eiden slept soundly.
While Tim's slumber was eternal.

Diary Entry - 10/18/24
Seeing the woman again was not as easy as I thought it would be. I returned to the beach the next day, but she wasn’t there. I waited and waited and waited, but she never came. Apparently, Earth-people don’t care for the beach that much - although I can’t understand why. Maybe it’s cold? It must be. I see the large, land plants withering and the sky is somewhat foggy. I wonder if this is a seasonal thing - a change that happens in nature when the winter comes. Where I’m from - the deep sea, that is - the world doesn’t change much with the seasons. The water gets a little colder, the life moving slower, but that’s about it. Sometimes when I pop my head up to the surface, there will be rain falling from the sky. I assume rain affects life on land - maybe that’s why she won’t come to the beach? Maybe the land folk are sensitive to water? But then, why come to the beach at all?
I was quite disheartened when I couldn’t find her - but I wouldn’t give up. I was curious, and no one was going to stop me from finding the answers I seek. Besides, she was stunning. I still have yet to see anything like her. Luckily, I went back to the shore a day later and she had returned. It took a while of waiting, which was pretty irritating, but I held on. Just as the sun was beginning to dip under the horizon, as I was getting ready to sulk back to my home, she came. Walking down a rocky path in different accessories than she wore last time. She brought what looked like a book - or at least I assumed it was one. It looked different from the books we had in the ocean, but she was reading it nonetheless.
I was still hesitant to greet her. I’m not sure how skittish these creatures are, and the last thing I want to do is scare this angel away. So, just like the first day, I watched. I stayed far enough away from the sand for her not to notice me and I just stared - stared at her subtle movements and the wave of her hair in the wind as if she were underwater with me. I want so badly to meet her. Maybe next time I will. Would she even understand me? How will I be able to communicate with her? Surely the creatures up on land speak a different language than aquatic folk. Does she even speak at all? I’ve never heard her say anything - then again, why would she? No one talks to her; every time she shows up, she’s all alone. That proves my theory that these are solitary creatures - either that or she’s a rogue.
These feelings are overwhelming. I’ve always been inquisitive, but never like this. It’s all-consuming, she is all I can think about. I need to learn more, I will die if I don’t. I feel that my lungs and my gills will both cease to work and I will suffocate, finding no peace in water or land, if I do not speak to this woman - just once. That’s it. I’ve decided. I will speak to her. Next time. I must.
a/n: will update this whenever i feel like it. no regular schedule set.

Hi Im sure you answered this already but i sadly cant find it: how did end up shipping or rather writing drarry fics?
I've actually been asked quite a few times why I ship H/D. I never answer, because it's complicated and long and I have an essay on the subject, so I'll answer the 'how' question without addressing the 'why'.
Once upon a time, the internet was becoming a thing that people used regularly. The news kept talking about how the youths of the day were "surfing the 'net" and this was going to be the new normal. As usual, I could not identify with the 'youths of the day,' even though I was one. What could possibly be of interest to me on the internet? Reading books was far better than talking to other people. Then one day in my senior year of high school it dawned on me that you could possibly talk to other people about books, something I had never done before, as I didn't know anyone but my parents and brothers who ever read for fun, and my parents and brothers did not like to read things like Jane Austen. What if there were people on the 'net who liked Jane Austen??? Seemed fake, but I gave it a try.
The first Jane Austen website I found was Republic of Pemberley, which hosted something they called "Bits of Ivory." Through the "Ramble" board on Republic of Pemberley, I found out that there were "Bits of Ivory" elsewhere. It was called fanfic and hosted on fanfic.net.
Almost all of it that I was introduced to was Harry Potter fic, as HP was the megafandom of the time, and my Sense and Sensibility friend was obsessed with Snape, mainly because of Alan Rickman. I was also obsessed with Snape, though I must say that even though I had been obsessed with Alan Rickman since 1995, I never did like his casting as Snape and still don't. Anyway, I ended up getting interested in Snape/Hermione fic, and continued to be interested on and off for over the next five years.
I should pause at this moment to say that I had been writing fanfic since the fourth grade. I didn't know it was called fic. I didn't know other people did it. It never occurred to me to share it. When I found "Bits of Ivory" it actually took me a while to process that the stories there were in a similar vein to the stories I had been writing all my life, stories based on fiction by other people. It was just so wild to me that anyone would share that stuff, as though other people would want to read the different endings that they came up with, the self-inserts and the cross-overs they came up with.
I should also take this moment to say that I didn't really have slash ships. I was aware that slash existed, and I thought it was great. Sirius/Remus was a background ship everywhere at the time, and even though I didn't really see it in canon and wasn't terribly interested in it, I thought it was a nice thing. And when I started getting into X-Men through Wolverine/Rogue, it seemed obvious to me that Professor X and Magneto had a past sexual relationship. I, in fact, had an original story that I'd started writing in eleventh grade that had similar tension between two male characters, and the idea that they were in love and unable to have sex about it explained so much. And I wrote more original stories in college that were gay.
I think my problem was that the canons I was consuming were quite straight, and while I wasn't obsessed with writing canon-compliant fics, I was (and still am, to some extent) obsessed with writing characters who were true to canon. At the time sexuality seemed some kind of immutable thing to me that was deeply a part of who a character was. Also, sex to me was very Other; it meant something really deep and serious about you that obliterated other things you were. For instance, I was frustrated with all the Frodo/Sam porn, because I felt it obliterated their beautiful friendship and made their relationship about sex and being gay rather than the deep pure bond of friendship. So I was maybe kind of homophobic and confused.
Then I fell in love with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and while that canon has a lot of heteronormativity, it not only has a character who thought she was straight who realizes she's gay, it also has vampires who have lived for centuries and who have broken every kind of social norm that exists. It seemed silly to me to assume that Spike or Angel were straight, which is how I began shipping Spike/Angel, which is how I got absolutely obsessed with slash. It was so liberating to write porn where the power dynamic wasn't influenced by centuries of patriarchy! It was so liberating to write porn where I didn't have to think about my own anatomy or gender or position in a sexual dynamic! It was so liberating to write porn with a bunch of dicks!
Having discovered slash, I turned back to ye olde faithful fandom, which had ten billion fics about everything. I'm not sure I even tried Sirius/Remus, because I was still so uninterested in it, but now I read all the Snape slash, the majority of which seemed to be Harry/Snape. The thing is, I don't ship Harry/Snape. It can be very hot! But while the porn is fine and some of the stories are fun, these are not two people that I want to live happily ever after. I just think that the power dynamic between them, the history they have, and the personalities they are do not make me want to imagine them as a couple with a happy marriage who occasionally have the friends over for games of Quidditch and Exploding Snap. And while I like queer complicated, angsty stories, I also like a happy ending in a semi-heteronormative sense, especially for Harry Potter, who really seems to want one. So, I started looking for other Harry Potter slash.
I knew that Harry/Draco was a juggernaut pairing, but I just hated Draco Malfoy so much. I honestly could not stand him. I used to go about saying that I hated him not only as a person (like, I also hated Snape as a person; he's a dick, and he's cruel to children! But he's a great character) but as a character. I just didn't like the function he played in the narrative. I like big, dramatic rivalries and evil vs good; meanwhile, Draco Malfoy is a little worm. So I kept thinking about reading HP slash, but resisting.
Then, one day, I was sleeping on the couch, and woke up suddenly with the idea that Draco Malfoy could be reformed. He could be sorry for all the shitty things he's done! He could be really apologetic! He could be really trying to make up for his past, and Harry could find this truly beautiful, and they could have sex about it!
Surprisingly, it was hard to find fic about this. For some reason, in most of the fic, it was Harry having to earn Malfoy's approval, instead of the other way around, which I found absolutely bonkers. But I eventually found Eclipse, by Mijan, which was just what I wanted. Then I was obsessed and was reading every Harry/Draco fic I could find.
Eventually, I even read the ones in which Harry was a cad and Draco Malfoy was a perfect snowflake who never did anything wrong. And then I started finding fics that really emphasized that Draco had a very different point of view of what happened, which showed that he really had no way to understand who Harry was, or what Harry had been through. In these fics, Harry had to do some work to understand Draco, which is what really sold me on the pairing. I still want fics in which Draco has to do a lot of heavy lifting to address his past and deal with the hurt he has caused and the violence of his previously genocidal outlook, but I love it when Harry, too, has to adjust. After saving the world and losing most people he loves and protecting the innocent and doing his exhausted little best to be honest and righteous and true, Harry Potter still has to do work, again, to overcome his past and find a peaceful life. And that's what made me start writing Harry/Draco, the end.

Tender Threads CH3 (Homelander x OC)
chapter three: initiation
chapter directory | slow burn, hurt/comfort, fluff, spidersona as original character, original trans male character, smut, sublander
summary: time to make it official. speeches, crowds, and vought's guard dog watching his every move. better not mess up, bug boy.
Word was out by fault of a leak. Before the official announcement by Vought, news outlets had plastered Spidey over every flat surface and digital medium possible. It wasn’t the first time Ben had made international news, but it was the first time it was to a scale like this. He’s been a hot subject since becoming one of the only ‘rogue’ supes to not choose outright crime, though vigilantism was still technically illegal. But he had droves of public support and pretty much always has.
Spider-Man had been gasoline added to the fire in the debate of unlicensed heroes. He wasn’t the first, but he was certainly one of the more popular ones– though Ben could never fathom why. Within three years of first donning the mask, he found himself trending on social media on a nearly regular basis for reasons both good and bad.
Spidey Doesn’t Kill. Spider-Man Saves Victims Before The Seven.
Debates on his morals or potential lack thereof.
He’s not getting paid for it, obviously he’s doing it because he’s a good guy.
What if he’s just some sick freak that wants an excuse to beat up on people?
It was… a lot.
But it’s never been anything like this. At least the outrage of the handful of exceptionally vocal few was satisfying. Especially that weird guy that runs The Bugle.
Ben was given a script for his formal introduction. Vought was going all out. A stage, cameras, a massive crowd…
It was fucking scary.
He’d met Stillwell a week prior. Just do it the way Homelander does, she’d said to him. As if it were that easy. As if his entire life wasn’t just upended by both the world’s most powerful supe and conglomerate.
So here he stands, just a few blocks away from the stage in Central Park. Waiting for his little queue.
He can hear her over the loudspeaker. Insincerity and public posturing dripping from her voice like venom.
Ben hates these types. He’s dealt with them a lot in his job– well, old job– and something about her was so… wrong. The way she smiled at him when he lifted the pen from his contract, name forever etched, soul forever sold. Maybe it was how soothing she tries to be. Soft voice, gentle eyes, even though behind it all is just another soulless little–
“I am so thrilled to present to you,” she says, voice bouncing off buildings and into Benjamin’s ears.
His queue to jump, to dive low and arc high.
“The newest member of The Seven–”
Go, go, go! Drag line– zip– push off the wall– dive, momentum, go for the spectacle! Razzle dazzle ‘em, Ben! C’mon, Stillwell! Say it! Say the fucking line!
“The Amazing Spider-Man!”
Just as the words fly off her tongue, Ben comes into full view of the crowd. Cheers erupt like deafening thunder, seemingly drowning out the city. He peers down as gravity corrects his display of performative agility, sending him on a dive toward the stage.
A zipline to the rafters is all he needs to stick the landing, a quick handstand to add that pizzazz that was demanded from him, and a web from which to dangle upside down as he waved like the good little performer he was.
It wasn’t without its own beauty. Even upside down those signs were clear as day.
We Love You Spidey!
You Saved Us!
NY ♥️s Spidey!
The cheers, the kids in shifty little homemade costumes, his signature hand gesture that releases his webbing being held high by thousands...
Even in the air, he couldn’t see the end of the crowd.
But there’s no time for his brain to blue-screen like this, especially not when Stillwell all but grabs him and directs him to the podium.
Oh fuck, public speaking. Christ, Ben thinks to himself, okay, imagine them all in their underwear…
The roar of the crowd silences in mere seconds as they wait for him to speak.
Thank god for the mask. And the podium… fuck, are my legs shaking?
“Hi, everyone.” Ben begins, clearing his throat awkwardly. He had a lot to nail here. Poise, confidence, and whatever else was gonna help make supes look competent enough to belong in that defense bill. Yeah, Stillwell made sure he knew not to fuck up their future as Lockheed Martin’s biggest competitor.
One step out of line could be catastrophic.
“I just… I wanna start by thanking everyone, y’know? Everyone here, out there, friends, family… the whole shebang.” He starts, letting the thunderous applause run its course before moving on. “But most importantly, I want to thank Vought for giving me this chance–”
Gag, gag, gag! This is horrible! Ben thinks to himself as he runs his script. Part way through some babble about small beginnings, he notices a flash of red and white behind the proscenium wall of the stage.
Homelander’s here?
“I’m just so incredibly grateful to be standing here today, y’know? I hope I make you folks proud. Thank you,” oh christ, here we go with the raw corporate vomit, “and god bless America!”
Blegh.
Ben takes the slightest step away from the podium, and it’s like a jet engine firing up right in the middle of the park. Screams and cheers, applause and all sorts of noise making doohickeys. Beside him, Stillwell ceases her own claps to gently guide him from the podium. Then, the noise explodes.
Whatever fanfare was for Spidey becomes infinitely louder when those colors sway out from behind the wall.
“Oh, no! Hey, you guys!” Homelander shouts to the masses, his smile wide and happy as he makes his way to the microphone. He claps a hand against Ben’s shoulder and pulls him back to the podium to stand with him. “C’mon, let’s hear it for Spider-Man, eh?”
Homelander leans in as the deafening uproar picks back up. “Bet’cha don’t get that as a vigilante, huh?”
Then, as the noise dies down, Homelander begins his own performance.
“I, for one, am incredibly glad to have this fella join our team. It’s unfortunate that Translucent was injured so badly by an unknown enemy during his last mission, and I swear to God that we’ll find whoever is responsible and bring them to justice!” Homelander pauses. “But, I know that Spidey here will bring his own incredible qualities to our team, and I very much look forward to working with him, and the rest of The Seven, to keep our country, and world, safe!”
Perfectly impassioned. Voice strong, tone bold but somber for his incapacitated friend. Humble and domineering, but worthy of adoration.
He’s one hell of a spectacle up close.
Homelander’s arm slings around Ben’s shoulders, indicating that he, too, should wave to the masses. He was showing the world how friendly they are with one another despite the real deal behind the scenes. Despite what he’d said and done to the bug.
Benjamin wasn’t going on a patrol tonight. No, no… after today, all he wants to do is curl up and hibernate. Maybe it was all of the dread and anxiety for his big reveal day that had weighed him down, but he felt so heavy. There was no way he’d be able to resist a nap on a rooftop at this rate.
Besides, this was probably one of the last times he’d ever sleep a full night here. Well, most of a full night, given his sixth sense’s tendency to rouse him at odd intervals.
Vought was moving him in. Sure he could keep the apartment, but what was the point? All of his things were going to be transferred by Vought’s moving services, so all he really had to do was pack everything up even though he technically didn't actually have to– the moving team would handle everything. Not that there was much he could have in a studio apartment, but…
He’d gotten as far as boxing up his clothes, but everything else was still as is.
Instead of doing more, though, he just grabs that same guitar whose strings Homelander nearly broke, lays back, and picks a melody until drowsiness turns to pure exhaustion.
Unaware of the eyes watching him through the walls.
The boy was… a curious thing. Obligation had turned to fascination, fascination became fixation, and fixation became obsession a little too quickly for his liking. But that didn’t stop Homelander from continuing with his observations.
It never does.
He was almost grateful that killing the bug was off the table completely. Had he done so in that alley, he wouldn’t be here now, being practically serenaded– well, all except for some singing that Benjamin has yet to unknowingly perform for him. Everything he’d seen over the last few weeks had driven him insane.
Why in the hell would such an extraordinary supe choose this? The mundane, the boring, the simple.
The mud.
He could have been so much more so long ago! And Vought? Vought waited this long to pursue and sign him? What a fucking joke! Homelander would’ve taken him over Starlight in a second had they pitched him earlier. He supposes, though, that it was because they had been taking formal auditions back then…
But what a specimen this Benjamin was turning out to be. So bold, yet so timid. So happy and sad all at once. Human, yet impeccably super. And so very fun to watch live his boring little life. Homelander will almost miss watching the web-head scramble to make it to work on time, swinging around the city in his cheap dress shirt, spider suit stuffed in a backpack, and then doing that stupid job as a… oh, what was it..? Some kind of tech bullshit, whatever it was.
Suffice it to say, it’ll be magnificent with the bug living in the same building soon. Easier to observe that way.

Sonic opinions that may or may not be controversial
Sonic character design is at its worst when they try to make it as "Sonic-like" as possible, and at its best when it's at its most unconventional (i.e. Fang the Sniper, the Witchcarters, the Kukku Empire, the humans in Sonic Unleashed and Chronicles, SatAM and AOSTH characters, etc)
Infinite's maskless design is lame
Sally Acorn, Amy Rose, Princess Elise and Lanolin aren't the worst characters, you just want to hate female characters. There are way worse written characters and you choose those three to bash on
That said, Chris Thorndyke and Charmy Bee aren't annoying, you just hate children. Chris' unwilling to let Sonic go in the finale of Sonic X's season two wasn't a dick move, that's his character arc. And of course Charmy being loud, annoying and basically dooming the resistance by turning himself into a zombot to try and save someone makes sense. He's a god damn six year old
Ian Flynn trying to "simplify" Fang the Sniper takes away all that made him interesting, his weirdness and confusing design (he literally took away Fang's hybrid side and him being originated from the Special Zone. Blaze exists, why can't Fang be from another dimension too?)
Gemerl not having Emerl's personality isn't neither a betrayal nor a bad take on his character. In fact, it makes his contrast with Emerl and comparison to Omega and Metal Sonic better. Shard is not coming back guys. Cope
Sonic Forces should've been less focused on Classic Sonic and more on the Rookie. In fact, Shadow should've replaced Classic Sonic in the storyline
Sonic Colors is worse than Sonic 06 in terms of storyline and the DS version should've been the real deal
As fun and awesome and amazing as Sonadow is (totally not speaking from bias), making it non-canon is the best for everyone
Characters like Shadow and Omega shouldn't have a classic form, but it would be interesting to see other modern characters in classic form
Classic characters shouldn't be confined to the "classic universe". Archie's best parts were when classic and modern characters interacted (Mighty and the Werehog, Shadow and the Hooligans, Jet and Speedy)
The idea of the Babylon Rogues being associated to the Kukku Empire in the past IS an interesting concept. What isn't is the Kukku Empire being associated with the Babylon Garden. They should be their own villains
As goofy as Sonic Chronicles was, it wasn't a bad game at all
Western and eastern Sonic media should be treated with the same respect
Sonic characters acting immature shouldn't be a big deal. They are kids, no matter how many times you point out how they removed the ages at the Sonic Channel site. Amy Rose herself was at her best when she was an immature hotheaded girl
As much as I wish Silver was more serious at IDW, him acting excited and happy isn't bad either. He's healing from multiple broken futures
Silver and Blaze are better staying out as platonic. If Sonic and Shadow's tanabata references can be seen as platonic, then those two can two. That said, their relationship should still be seen as meaningful to both of them (perhaps more to Silver than to Blaze). Male and female friendships exist without it being instantly romantic
MORE. UNSEEN. CHARACTER. INTERACTIONS. PLEASE
Sonic Shuffle shouldn't be shafted just because of the weird gameplay and human-like characters. The Maginaryworld characters should make a comeback (ESPECIALLY with to the implications of the angel statue in Sonic CD's Wacky Workbench)
We need more truly irredeemable female villains (Surge doesn't count, I'm talking about characters like Witchcart, Lien-Da, Thunderbolt)
For the love of God, Sega. Bring Classic characters back
If you can give personality to Metal Sonic and Mecha Sonic II, you can give to the other robots (and no, making Tails Doll an eldritch horror doesn't count)
Hyper Sonic should come back. Maybe even make it the "third stage" to the Super Sonic and Super Sonic 2 duo
As good and amazing as Amy's everything was in Sonic the Comic, that shouldn't be the blueprint of her canon character. At max bring back her crossbow (and her girlfriend)
Tails Adventure is better taking place before Sonic and Tails meeting. If he was confident enough to follow Sonic and help him defeat Eggman's ass he should be confident enough to abolish the monarchy (last part is /hj lmao)
Tails Adventure mentioned, the Kukku Empire should make a comeback too. If Shadow can come back the Kukkus can. They weren't cntrl+alt+del from existence like Mephiles was y'know
We don't want to see the classic universe. We want to see classic CHARACTERS
Sega. Hey Sega. Sega. Are you hearing me. Sega. Bring classic characters back Sega. Sega-
Post-genesis wave Archie character designs sucks ass. The color palettes make it worst (Antoine I'm looking directly at you)

Apart from that, two delicious smutty fics got an update: Bruce/Dick/Jason college au and Slade/Jason western au. We also have an amazing DCU, MCU and X-Men crossover oneshot! Hope you enjoy the recs <3

The Assassination of President Luthor by the Radical Lonnie Machin by NiteWrighter "Hi. I’m Lonnie. So I guess I should start out by saying, I don’t believe violence is a sustainable tool. It’s not. It’s a reflection of our ugliest, most base instincts. But it is the current language of the state, so I apologize for bringing my voice to the conversation."
President Luthor has been brutally killed by a magical weapon, and Anarky has claimed responsibility. The Justice League is struggling with the ensuing fallout, instability, suspicion, and speculation, while a power vacuum opens up in the world of the Rogues. What does a world without Lex Luthor look like? Is he truly gone? Has a greater chain reaction been kicked off by this single death?

The Half-Life of Sixty Seconds by sunnymusings "The problem with thinking like a detective is not actually that thinking like one is too strict or structured. There’s organization on a document, but Tim’s mind is not a bullet journal. It’s not a legal form, it’s not a spreadsheet, it’s not a ledger.
It’s messy and human and creative. Loose, unstructured, instinctual. Detectives aren’t good at solving cases because they work like machines; it’s much the opposite. It’s that creative mess which aids in seeing between the structure of presented facts, reading the code, and then cracking it. It’s like tracing a spider web back to its center. There’s an observable track leading exactly where one needs to go— a veritable method to the madness— but it’s still art, all the same, even to the broom that ruins it.
So, when Tim is presented with a countdown, it’s not just a mechanical, factual understanding of time that pushes hard against the inside of his ribs; it’s a too-clear visual of a digital clock-face, neutral and unyielding, counting down from sixty in his neocortex. Artistic and messy and emotional.
There is only one place to go once one is caught in the web."

Nothing to Nobody by Jae_Cillian The kid—Jason—stared at Slade with wide, alert eyes. Big and round like a doe—startled in its grazing, frozen in the sights of a predator. He leaned forward, one hand still gripping the pistol but the other anchoring his weight against the floor as if to stand and chase after Slade. But with Slade’s eye on him, Jason didn’t dare move an inch. All tense lines and silent shudders of breath that Slade could see quake along the kid’s ribs, Jason reminded Slade of a stray dog. Snarling and snapping its canines when he got too close, but whimpering and whining when he walked away.
Slade wondered how long it’d take to tame the kid; and, thereupon, realized he might enjoy the challenge of it.

In which Slade, while chasing after the Joker gang's bounties and stolen payroll, finds Jason—battered, beaten, and abused at the gang's hands—alone in the mountains. Intrigued by the kid's feral tenacity, he offers Jason a chance at revenge.

Mire than a question it's a rant. Don't you think it's so frustrating the treatment Gambit has been going through recently on the comics ( I'm watching you, wedding special) like, he's one of the few male characters that most people agree on that he deserves better than Rogue. I've heard some people saying that Gambit's a boring character that only works when he's part of a team. Which I strongly disagree with, since he's stablish as one of the most secretive members of the X-Men.
And then there's Rogue, girl it's so... Weird. It's like Ironman, both of them are a lot more likeable and better persons in animation and movies than in comics, Ironman it's such a horrible person in the comics that it's even hypocritical of him to judge any ex con that wants to redeem themselves, same with Rogue. If the roles were reversed and Gambit did half of what she did to people would lose their minds! If Rogue were so forgiven as Gambit is people would tell abuse!! They would be the Sakura and Sasuke of the comics (well, they kinda are but with the genders reversed) o shipped Romy since I saw it in the original series, when I started reading cómic and went through the Antarctica arc, the whole Joseph deal and whatever they're doing recently (again, the wedding special, like... girl, Remy would throw hands with his father and brother if they dared to drag your name through the mud and you stay silent as two terrorist are calling him names!?) Gambit, just like Storm not only deserve better partners they deserve a better team and better writers.
You don't know how much I would like another adventure with only these two and for Gambit to get a divorce. Heck, sometimes I think belladonna respect Gambit more than Rogue.
I’d say that it isn’t recent; Gambit’s been mistreated for many, many years 😕 Well, people who think Gambit is boring aren’t paying attention. He’s the opposite of boring. Also, the number of solo series he’s had over the years is a testament not only to his popularity but also his capability of being a solo character (although not all his solos were good).
Yeah, but when you treat comics as real life, there’s just some much wrong, so many things characters wouldn’t come back from if they were real people. (I hated the wedding special, like any sane person would, it’s unmitigated garbage).
To be honest, I don’t want them to get a divorce, because I’m sure Gambit would get the short end of the stick and I really don’t want to see him get unfairly blamed again. But, yeah, I’ve said it before how I dislike the way Rogue has been written and how that impacts Gambit negatively, it's just mean and unhealthy.

♡ CaesariaWrites ♡
● Ao3 ● X ● Retrospring ●
Hi! I'm Caesaria. I write for the Riddler and other Gotham Rogues, but you'll find 95% of my content is Riddler orientated. My current focus is on my long-fic, Cat & Mouse.
♡ I'm a 30-year-old cis female living in the Midwest.
♡ When not writing fanfic, my focus is on my original fiction, as I have big dreams of becoming a published author one day.
♡ I was diagnosed with Anxiety, Depression, and OCD.
♡ Fun fact about me: I'm blind in one eye.
♡ I'm pretty active on here, so my ask box is always open for requests, to chat, or just send me whatever you want.
♡ My Ask Box is OPEN
♡ Current No. of Requests: 8
♡ I write primarily for the Riddler (Arkham, Telltale, Gotham, Zero Year, BTAS), but I will write for the other Gotham Rogues, particularly for Scarecrow, Mad Hatter, Penguin, and Two-Face.
♡ My preference is smut, angst, and other dark-themed fics, but I don't mind fluff, either.
♡ My main focus is my long-fic, Cat & Mouse, a Riddler x Reader story about a reformed Riddler coming to work for the GCPD three years after Arkham Knight.
♡ Anything to do with minors
♡ The Reader being of another species (vampire, werewolf, alien, etc...unless I have a very specific idea).
♡ Anything to do with scat, vomit, or piss. Just not my thing!
♡ Bestiality
♡ Major character death
♡ Sexual assault/rape. I don't mind writing something where a character comes to the other's rescue, but I won't write about an actual rape/assault taking place.
♡ Anything in general that makes me uncomfortable is. Sometimes I don't realize what that is until I get a certain ask!
♡ At the moment, I'm primarily taking requests for anything to do with my long-fic, Cat & Mouse (involving my Cat&Mouse!Verse).
♡ Requests for anything else will be considered, but please keep in mind that they are not my top priority at the moment.
♡ Because Cat & Mouse and my original fiction are my focus, requests do come in last on my priority list. Sometimes this means it can take me weeks, if not months, to respond to an ask. I apologize if you have to wait so long, but just keep this in mind, as I do also have a life outside of writing and Tumblr.
♡ When requesting from a specific prompt, please be specific in as to which one so I can make sure I'm doing the right one!
♡ I write for the Riddler, Scarecrow, Mad Hatter, Penguin, Two-Face, and occasionally Harley Quinn, if a request interests me.
♡ Anyone outside of this list I do not write for. Mainly because I either don't know enough about the character or just don't feel comfortable in my ability to write them (such as Bane, for example).
♡ Please be specific in the type of request you'd like to see. It really helps me write the best content I can!
♡ My preference is Female or GN centered fics, though I will write from the male perspective as well. I do not write f/f or m/m fics, since I'm straight, so it's just not something I have experience with.
♡ If your request is similar to something I've written before, I may redirect you to that fic instead.
♡ I reserve the right to refuse any request that comes in that I'm not comfortable with answering. Please don't take it personally!
♡ I reserve the right to cross post any request over to my Ao3.
♡ Here's a masterlist for all of my fics.
General Masterlist Cat & Mouse Masterlist
♡ Cat & Mouse is my long-fic, and really, my passion project.
♡ You'll find I talk quite a lot about Cat & Mouse on my blog. I like to post snippets, chapter updates, and write non-canon stories, headcanons, and "what if" stories in my Cat&Mouse!Verse.
♡ For an extensive playlist of all the songs that inspire me while I write Cat & Mouse, you can check them out here!
♡ You can check out the cat&mouse!verse tag for all things Cat & Mouse related.

Thinking way too hard about the queer possibilities of X-Men ‘97
When X-Men ‘97 was first announced, I’ll admit I was kind of ambivelent to the entire project... It felt very nostalgia-focused and was just less interesting to me then an all-new X-Men cartoon that could do its own thing without being burdened with established canon...
...and then I listened to the X-Men 60 Uncanny Years event earlier this year and hearing the executive producer of the series discuss what the X-Men meant to him as a kid as a gay black man in Florida basically changed my mind about the entire project. Now I’m excited for it!
The X-Men are so fucking queer. Even ignoring the ways that the mutant metaphor have been used to discuss queer issues before queer issues could be discussed textually, Marvel’s merry mutants just have... so many queer members and even more when you expand the list to include sub-textual and intended queerness.
So, with all that in mind, I did a little thinking and decided to take some guesses about who could make for queer representation in '97... Let’s dive in!
Part One: The Comic Canon Gays
Let’s start with the characters who are explicitly no-subtext-required queer in the comic books themselves. These are a few of the characters Marvel uses in Pride events and generally parades around every June.
Northstar
Jean-Paul Beaubier may seem like the vanilla ice cream of this rainbow sundae, but there’s far more going on with this character then the “Marvel’s first explicitly gay superhero” title that he is so often boiled down to. A French-Canadian superstar athlete, he’s lived never being entirely sure if his skiing career success was a result of his talent or his mutant abilities.
While his depiction in X-Men The Animated Series just had him be painfully French-Canadian with an on-the-nose accent and French exclamations, there’s a mean catty gay under the surface that is just waiting to be unleashed. They could also adapt his famous wedding arc, wherein he married his husband Kyle Jinadu...
Also he hates cops, so y’know... Maybe Marvel did nail the queer experience on their first try?
Iceman
Bobby Drake is arguably the most famous queer character at Marvel. A member of the original five X-Men, he was famously confirmed as gay when his teenage self was transported to the present and, with some unsolicited help from a teenage Jean Grey, questioned why his older self remaining closeted, even in a world that was (comparatively at least) accepting of queer desire.
In the original show, he showed unrequited interest in Polaris, as he had in the comics before his coming-out. This reboot could potentially give a more grounded and less fantastical take on coming-out then what he had in the comics... or maybe time travel will be involved again - who knows really!
Prodigy
David Allyene, aka Prodigy, is one of the most notable bi men at Marvel with one of the most distinctive coming-out stories. His mutant powers cause him to instantly learn things that other people know, hence the name Prodigy, and, through his powers, he also learned his own sexuality. How’s that for a crazy journey of self-discovery.
Prodigy is a newer character who did not appear in the original animated series at all, so there’s no continuity concerns there...
Mystique and Destiny
Destiny, also known as Irene Adler, met her lover Mystique when he was presenting as male and operating as a consulting detective in Victorian London.
Yeah uh. This is implying what you think it is.
The two of them have been lovers for centuries now, though both took other partners at different points during their relationship. Their love is something special though and together they raised Rogue as a child - as well as maybe sired Nightcrawler together? That was once intended to be Nightcrawler’s origin, but it was famously scrapped due to Marvel editorial not wanting to depict a child that is a product of a queer relationship at the time... but now this November a new comic will explore the “true” origin of Nightcrawler, so maybe Mystique/Destiny having a biological child is back on the table!
Mystique was, of course, in the original series. I’m not sure the actual odds of her relationship with Irene being acknowledged in ‘97 - partially just because I imagine Marvel would be concerned about backlash to queer villains... but also they’re adorable and good to me so I’d like them!
Captain Britain and Askani
Betsy Braddock and Rachel Summers are two incredibly complicated characters to summarize. Rachel is the time-displaced daughter of Scott and Jean from a hypothetical alternate feature, while Betsy Braddock spent like 30 years of her publication history trapped in the body of Kwannon, a Japanese assassin. While these two characters are some of Marvel’s most actively in-your-face unquestionably queer characters - the last Betsy story had a surprising amount of implied sex for only five issues - they’ve never really had a chance to shine in a multimedia way (well, at least not with Betsy in her own body and not being merged with Kwannon).
In the original show, Rachel cameoed briefly as a prisoner of Apocalypse while Pyslocke appeared without being named - assumedly they didn’t want to bother explaining the body-swap storyline. Personally, if they were to be in the show, I’d suggest that Betsy should be introduced as having inherited her brother’s title of Captain Britain, with Pyslocke of the original show being revealed to have been Kwannon in her own body all along...
Part Two: The New Mutants
There’s so many queer New Mutants that I’m just giving them their own category here... plus, with Sunspot being in the main cast, I wouldn’t be surprised if the rest of the time got (Sun)spotlighted as well!
Note that the sapphics of the first generation of New Mutants can also be mixed and matched when it comes to shipping. I present them based on the pairings that are currently canon/teased in the present comics, but Dani/Xuan, Xuan/Kitty, Kitty/Rahcel, etc. are all valid too and could be within the cards for the show.
Karma & Galura
The first explicit lesbian of the X-Men line, Xuân Cao Mạnh is a refugee of the Vietnam Boat Crisis, a thing which makes no sense when you consider that she is still canonically like 20-something years old in 2023. Her coming-out was a much lower-key affair then Jean-Paul’s, with her friends just casually running into her at the Exploding Person festival (i.e., Burning Man) with a shaved pink haircut and already travelling with her two “girlfriends”.
After the musical festival, she proceeded to fall in love with her roommate Kitty Pryde and then her co-worker Dani Moonstar, both of which were never (textually) requited. Recently, she’s started dating the winged mutant Galura and finally gotten to do stuff like “kiss a woman on-panel regularly” after two decades of being a lesbian denied a girlfriend...
She has cameoed in X-Men ‘92-related media with a design that is truly terrible IMO, but I think she could be rebooted and appear in this series in her full glory... especially after the New Mutants movie left her out entirely!
Mirage and Wolfsbane
Introduced in the original New Mutants run, Dani Moonstar and Rahne Sinclair share a unique telepathic connection, helpfully described as them being “soul-mates.” The Comic Book Code prohibited depictions of queer people, but uh. This first run is incredibly not subtle, even as Rahne nominally has interest her male teammate Cannonball.
Unfortunately, post-Claremont, their relationship was more or less abandoned for a few decades (coinciding with a massive downward spiral in Rahne content in general) climaxing with Rahne being killed off entirely in an allegory for transphobic violence... Thankfully, she recovered from her death and has recently been written by a non-binary author and now a trans author, both of whom have leaned back into the idea that these “soul-mates” may, in fact, have romantic feelings for each other.
Oh, also they were explicitly gay in the movie. So. Good for them for that!
Magik and Shadowkat
Another classic pair of X-Men “roommates,” Illyana Rasputina and Kate Pryde are another Claremont-created “soul-mate” duo - albeit without the telepathic bond. After decades of queer-coding, both were able to do queer-adjacent things explicitly for the first time in the Krakoa era, with Illyana asking a group of people of various gender presentations to make out with her and Kate kissing a tattoo artist who looks suspiciously like her bestie on-panel.
Pryde famously lost the spot of “Teen X-Men PoV character” to Jubilee in the show, but maybe X-Men ‘97 could give her a second chance... plus Illyana is one of the most popular X-Men characters not given a full spotlight in the original show, in spite of her more or less being an A-list X-Men in 2023. I don’t know if Marvel is brave enough to make this one canon, but I do think these two are two of the most obviously missing characters from the ‘97 line-up.
Escapade
Shela Sexton, aka Escapade, is a transgender sapphic who debuted in Marvel Pride last year and has since then had a starring role in the most recent New Mutants series. She has the incredibly unique power of the ability to “steal” things from people - including everything from stealing physical objects like their wallet to stealing abstract concepts like their emotional or physical state. Her character also generally has embodied the intersectional approach to mutant identity which has become more and more prevalent in the modern era - her mutant identity and trans identity are both important to her character, but neither are allegories for the other.
I think she’s probably too new to be added to the X-Men ‘97 cast pragmatically, but maybe they could have snuck in a cameo at the last minute? Idk. I figured I’d include her on the list.
Part Three: Let’s Get Wild!
Okay. Fuck it. Let’s talk about some comic book justifications that could be used to queer up the actual main cast from the original classic X-Men The Animated Series.
Jubilee
Jubilation Lee, the teen PoV lead of the X-Men, has been written as queer a handful of times, but never explicitly in 616. Most notably, she was gay in an AU Runaways story (written by N.D. Stevenson), where she dated a bisexual version of Pixie as well as an ice-powered sapphic named Frostbite. Monet also had a crush on her in the X-Men ‘92 animation-inspired comic book series. In terms of 616 content, her relationship with Laura Kinney has often been read in a sapphic way, especially in Liu’s X-23 series where Laura notably breaks up with her boyfriend only for Jubilee to be waiting back at her apartment to go out with her.
Storm
Ororo Munroe, aka Storm, famously has had a subtextual Sapphic fling with the bundle of chaos that is Yukio. They two met for the first time when Ororo went to Japan and their time together was almost immediately followed by her famous punk Storm era, which is very queer when you consider that context. Yukio was also later made explicitly queer in Fox’s Deadpool 2 movie, though the movie character doesn’t share much of the personality and thrill-seeking antics of her comic book counterpart...
Storm is the central protagonist of the original Claremont Uncanny X-Men and will be central to the ‘97 series as well. It’d be really bold to confirm her as queer, but I’d say this is the kind of move that would be worth it if they want this to stand out among X-Men adaptations.
Wolverine, Phoenix, and Cyclops
Finally, Jean Grey, Scott Summers, and Logan were implied to have been in a poly relationship throughout most of the Krakoa era - though they have fallen on hard times recently in the run-up to Fall of X.
I’ll be blunt: I don’t think there’s a chance in hell that Marvel corporate would approve this being textual... but I’m willing to be proven wrong, I guess!
WHEW. Okay. That’s my list. This is nowhere near definitive of course - I didn’t discuss Shatterstar’s bisexuality, Deadpool’s pansexuality, Gwenpool’s aroace identity, et al - but also basically every X-Men character is either textually queer or could be justified as being queer based on comic book lore. This entire brand has a queer poly energy that even the straightest writers weren’t able to fully shake off of it... so, while this is my list, they could really do anything they wanted (and that Mickey Mouse lets them do, at least)... We’ll see what happens!
[PS: In light of the strike and the general shitty way that megacorporations in entertainment have been treating their workers for years now, I’d be remissed if I made this post and didn’t encourage people to consider donating to the Entertainment Community Fund as well!]

X-Men '97 and the Gambit Ford F-150 Trailer Hitch Clutching
So I haven't watched all the episodes yet, but I wanted to address the stuff I've seen/heard about certain dudes in the "fandom" getting all upset about Gambit's crop top and how it made him seem gay or bi coded, even though in the entire episode he's classic Remy LeBeau from the original 90s series--not too interesting in helping out or doing anything other than what he wants to do, shamelessly flirting with Rogue, and busting everyone else's balls/possibly flirting with them too, but will still jump into the fight when it's time.
Oh, and Gambit was my favorite X-Men character growing up and I'm a cishet male, if that matters. Spoiler alert: It shouldn't.
"Holy Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition, Batman! It's his belly button."
If that's you, you clearly were too young in the 90s to remember the fashion of the day. The top photo and the ending basketball scene (a references to the comics as well), was soooo 80s/90s. Bishop's got a lime green tank top on and Cyclops' tank top is tucked into his shorts. The animators understood the assignment.
If anything, Remy (above) is rock-n-roll coded more than anything else. Just Google most 80s era rock bands that had songs about partying, sex, hot babes, etc. and you'll see big hair, eyeliner, bright colors, leather pants, jewelry, fishnets, fingerless gloves, and yes... crop tops. Maybe the 80s and 90s were "gay", IDK, but I remember most of my childhood clothes in the 80s and early 90s were some variation of a neon color as was every other kid's regardless of gender.
As mentioned above, he soooo badly wants in Rogue's pants, which possibly eliminates any gay coding, which only leave bi coding if a 90s crop top = being bisexual.
Who. Freakin'. Cares. Say this out loud with me. You can like, love, and enjoy a character without identifying with that character in any way, shape, or form (and that's probably a good thing for some characters). This can mean their sexuality, gender, ethnicity, religion, morality, or anything else about them. Yes, we can bring in the Punisher debate and how military and law enforcement appropriated the Punisher logo as their badge of honor and intimidation, and how they cherry-picked traits from that character to signal their toxic masculinity when Frank Castle is not meant to be a patron saint of law enforcement or the military. But it is also possible to just enjoy a character without making that character your identity. You can enjoy their characterization, storylines, or even something as simple as their costume, superpowers, or where they're from because you were born or grew up there too.
As mentioned above, Gambit was my favorite character growing up when I first got into X-Men, mostly thanks to this series, and he and I are very different. To me, Gambit was the cool, confident guy that I wasn't. He also wasn't Cyclops or Wolverine.
As a kid, most kids wanted to be Wolverine when playing X-Men on the playground because he had the claws and the healing factor. To us, he was OP which fit in with the whole childish argument of big, bigger, biggest, and finally infinity whatever... until someone busted out with the infinity times infinity argument. Also, there was no real internet and comics weren't readily accessible, so most of the knowledge at that time was from the show and limited comics one might've had. Plus, I think the whole Magneto pulls the adamantium from Wolverine's body storyline hadn't happened yet so yeah, that would've been a good game changer on the playground.
Anyway, outside of Batman, I was never a fan of the "popular" thing growing up and often preferred more underdog characters, teams, and things. Also, due to self-esteem issues I always felt less than, so while I liked Wolverine it was hard for him to be my favorite since he was everyone else's and I felt like I wasn't cool enough to like him. Cyclops on the other hand was the clean cut boy scout, which also didn't appeal to me because that was also something I didn't relate to. Outside of Beast and Morph, who got sidelined earlier in the series, that then left Gambit. (Note: Bishop wasn't a part of the main group and came later on.) But Gambit also seemed cool to me. He had a cool looking outfit, was agile and knew how to fight (I was into martial arts at the time as well), and could throw explosive cards. He definitely fit the "Rule of cool" in my child brain.
Lastly, and this goes back to point #4 above, it shouldn't matter what a character is like or how they identify. They're fictional and enjoying them as a medium should be fun. They are not you and you are not them, even if you have things in common. That said, I do think it's great when there's representation as well. I don't recall if this was in the OG series, though I seriously doubt it was, and I don't know about main Marvel canon, but I also think it's cool that Morph now has they/them pronouns as seen in the profile credits and Marvel wiki. I'm sure some people have missed this and I'm sure that'll be the next hot-button issue, but whether Gambit is gay, bi, straight, or whatever, he's still one of my favorites and it's why I grabbed this guy when it first came out.
I have more things to say about this first episode and my experience with the X-Men growing up, but I'll save that for other posts as this has gotten long enough already.

Interested in a Jega ‘Rdomnai scenario with a Spartan reader that defected from the UNSC.
Oh sure! So for this you're in The Banished and there's tension between you and Jega for... reasons at first. Along with moral conflict.
Edit: Sorry if the plot wasn't coherent or something, that's how the story ended up flowing.
Loyalty for Survival
Jega 'Rdomnai x Defected Spartan! Reader
Synopsis: In order to survive sometimes you have to change your allegiance. Despite you now being part of The Banished, Jega has his own suspicions about you.
Content Warnings: Romantic/Platonic Pairing (Dubious), Gender-Neutral Reader/Male Character, Trust issues mentioned, Canon typical violence, Death, Guilt, Dark themes, Sad themes.
Ever since the remains of the UNSC crashed onto Zeta Halo, humanity has been rather mixed when it comes to beliefs. Some stayed loyal to the UNSC. Some sided with the Banished that occupied here. Some stayed away from either party.
You? You used to be a newer Spartan fighting for the UNSC. However, as you watched your friends die around you, you realized you needed other means to survive. So you became a mercenary.
Becoming a mercenary soon got you into Banished territory. Despite you being a human Spartan, a potential enemy, you were hired into their forces. The change being finalized once your armor color was swapped to the brutal red The Banished often used.
Despite your loyalty now being towards Escharum, The Hand of Atriox and the Banished as a whole, not everyone trusted you. Spartans weren't known to abandon their cause to other members thought this was all a ploy. To solve such an issue they assigned someone to watch you.
Jega 'Rdomnai, the Spartan Killer himself, was sent to watch you. Even to Jega he was baffled a Spartan joined their ranks. Despite this he tried to trust Escharum's word.
You were not blind to being watched. Jega may use cloaking technology but you always assumed he was somewhere around you. He was there to cut you down if you showed sign of betrayal.
You didn't complain, mercenaries aren't the most trustworthy individuals. Some Banished aren't, either.
Jega was usually quiet more often than not. If he wasn't watching you then he sent other troops to do so. Said troops you often talked to as if they were buddies as you oversaw certain Banished functions.
Talking with Jega was usually brief. There's times he'd check in and ask what you did that day. He felt accusing at times but you brushed things off.
What did make you uncomfortable was when Jega prodded at your origins. He asked how well you performed, he asked if you had Spartan brothers/sisters you were close with, he asked if you were close with "The Master Chief".
Jega had a tendency to prod at you and you never told him much. You didn't like thinking of your past. You didn't like thinking of what your friends would say if they knew you left the UNSC for the enemy.
It just... hurt a bit too much to talk about.
Your silence often frustrated Jega but he gave up if you showed enough hostility. It just wasn't worth it. Plus, he didn't need Escharum hearing about him antagonizing you for being a Spartan.
The tough and brutal thing about being a mercenary was the jobs. As expected, you were often sent to hunt down UNSC camps and targets. The more missions you did, the more The Banished trusted you.
Which meant Jega backed off more than normal.
The Sangheili became less antagonistic and mor casual. After all, he's seen what you can do himself. You've killed marines and many other UNSC personnel for The Banished.
In fact you're starting to become infamous around UNSC camps.
Tales of the rogue spartan echoed across Zeta Halo. Jega admitted he was impressed if not a bit intrigued. Did you care for yourself more than your own kind? Maybe your kind cast you out just as his did?
This was what drove him to ask questions. He wonders how you feel at the thought of having human blood on your hands. He wonders if you find the hunt thrilling... or disheartening.
Your shared infamy was what brought Jega closer to you as some sort of companion. While he used to just be some sort of enforcer for you, now you often turned to him for chat. Two killers... bonding over what they do.
As much as you've hate what you've done... Jega has ironically become the closest companion you have.
"Do you ever feel guilt?" Jega asks you. "Or that maybe this was a coward's way out?"
"What are you saying?" You try to avoid the question, looking at a data pad absent-mindedly.
"You kill those you were meant to protect." Jega elaborates. "Do you find it thrilling or saddening?"
"It's a job. I try not to think too hard about it." You comment blankly.
"Do you ever regret it?"
Your jaw tenses.
"... sometimes." You admit. "But here is much better than suffering out there."
The Sangheili laughs softly, pulling down your data pad.
"For a Spartan you intrigue me." Jega admits, pushing the pad aside. "You use your skills as a warrior for your own benefit. I'm actually pleased that I haven't had to kill you, if not a little disappointed to be on the receiving end of your skills."
"No one said we can't train together." You bring up, Jega humming in response.
"You've managed to prove yourself here, it's respectable. You're quite the hunter." Jega praises.
"Does that mean Escharum will no longer have you watching me?" You ask, changing the subject away from the slaughter of your species by your hand. The past is in the past... you belong to The Banished now.
"That eager to get rid of me?" Jega asks.
"Nah, if anything I'll miss you." You admit, the Sangheili watching you closely.
"Grown attached? How ironic." Jega snorts while you fully turn yourself towards him.
"Admittedly it's ironic since you kill those like me." You agree. "But you really are the closest to me out of anyone here."
"You tell me this... why?" Jega questions.
"Just thought you'd like to know I wouldn't mind fighting by your side. After all, I'm one with The Banished now. This is the only company I need." You offer. Jega looks at you with even more interest.
"You're saying you'd hunt a spartan, one of your own, if it meant you'd help me?" Jega pushes. You nod.
"You mean that much to me."
"You prefer me more than any other human."
"To keep it simple and brief, yes." You confirm as Jega steps closer.
"That's quite a claim..." Jega hums in consideration, standing beside you. "Would you be willing to confirm such loyalty?"
"Whenever you wish." You admit, hiding the sadness in your tone.
"I'll run what you said by Escharum." Jega promises. "I look forward to making you my partner, rogue spartan."
Jega cloaks out of sight, leaving you alone. You will admit the idea of betraying your own species still hurts. That's something you'll never get over....
Yet there's no turning back now, right? Not when you've found somewhere else to call home.

Also!
Which character has changed the most since your first draft of them, and how?
(God sorry for sending so many questions)
(OMG NO WORRIES I LOVE THESE KINDS OF QUESTIONS PLS KEEP SENDING THEM-)
But OH MY GOD!!!!! E D G A R. Edgar from The Monster and the Butterfly is the character that I feel has changed the most since the very VERY first draft of this story. Both in design and character! He and Sophie are some of my oldest OCs, with their story existing in some way shape or form for about 10 years when I first started writing in middle school!
Be prepared for a long post because omg I love rambling about the evolution of characters and stories, I hope you don't mind!!
Also I got excited about this ask so I included a rough visual of Edgar's previous designs:
Starting in 2014 he (or rather she) was Ophelia, a witch that cursed herself with a rogue spell, and her 'beauty' counterpart was a boy named Samael that was sacrificed to her by a witch cult lol. It was very cringe, very much 2010s Wattpad content (i mean...the story literally started with Samael waking up to his alarm and mom waking him up for school)... and I distinctly remember calling this story "Beautiful Beast" because I thought I was being very original with a female beast x male beauty story lmfao (i was not)
Then around that same time I discovered The Phantom of the Opera...meaning that Edgar was going to become a poorly done carbon copy of the Phantom lol. He was like this for about a year, and across the board he was a dragon shifter for some reason? I cannot remember why lol...and also I remember in these versions of the story he had a brother named Lazarus who's FC was Robby Benson, and his 'beauty' in this version was named Kristine and she had a son (???????). Again, very 2010s Wattpad cringe, very much plagiarized Phantom X Christine fanfic (i'm very sorry)
It was around 2016 when I discovered the movie Panna a Netvor/Beauty and the Beast (1979), a very gaudy, atmospheric Gothic horror retelling of the fairytale from then Czechoslovakia. I was OBSESSED With it (and still am!) so I wanted to create a bird-like beast like in the movie. At the same time I was also obsessed with stuff like Black Butler and Penny Dreadful so I was inspired to change this story set in Victorian Era London. But this version of Edgar was VERY horrible and very much made it a tragic horror story rather than Gothic romance. He was the one behind the Jack the Ripper murders, drinking the blood of woman to satiate himself, and had very poorly-written schizophrenia as he was 'haunted' by his dead mom. I did away with this idea around the time of the pandemic because I found the idea insensitive and overly-edgy. But nonetheless this was where TMATB as we know it came to be: Gothic romantic setting in late Victorian era London with a bird-themed beast and a main female character who was into gardening in some capacity.
Then story started becoming more romantic, Edgar went through another design change to now be a fleshy vulture-thing, and was now becoming a sympathetic, gentle beast who loved reading and ornithology. Still I wasn't satisfied in terms of his design tho.
So then around 2020, after wanting inspiration to create a more humanoid-looking beast (and getting such inspiration from Brad Dourif as Grima Wormtongue in the LOTR films and Danny DeVito as The Penguin in Tim Burton's Batman Returns), Edgar's design became this:
While remaining a romantic hero, his role has become the more feminine one in the romance: he is the one needing saving, he is the one often in distress, he reads romances often intended for women, he's a very passive romantic role, etc. Also, his character is now heavily inspired by historical figures like Joseph Merrick (a.k.a. The Elephant Man) and Quasimodo from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, so now he's a gentle, well-read, kind-hearted, traumatized emotional basket case we all love today!
I hope this is a satisfactory answer omg so sorry for the long ramble of a post!!
