HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO PAUL WILLIAMS. In addition to his amazing run as an actor and singer-songwriter, he wrote or co-wrote (with Biff Rose and Roger Nichols) songs covered by David Bowie, The Carpenters (“Rainy Days & Mondays,” “We’ve Only Just Begun”), Jack Jones, The Muppets, Helen Reddy, 3 Dog Night (“Old Fashioned Love Song”—also covered by Micky Dolenz), and Dionne Warwick—not to mention award-winning film and TV scores. He’s been Chairman and President of ASCAP since 2009 and is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In recent years he’s had a resurgence, working with Richard Barone, Daft Punk, and The Scissor Sisters. Somewhere he’s found time to take up skydiving and become a UCLA certified Drug Rehabilitation Counselor, co-authoring the book GRATITUDE & TRUST: RECOVERY IS NOT JUST FOR ADDICTS.
Paul wrote the confessional “Someday Man” as a single for The Monkees. Upon release in 1968, it under-performed and got lost as a “deep cut” + Paul’s own version didn’t do much better. However, as cream rises to the top, in time the sophisticated and art-y song grew in popularity, in part because Davy Jones revived it for his solo set in 2009. Now it’s considered to be a Jones/Monkees evergreen and (speaking as a former band member) it was one of our favorites to play. Here’s the song from the 2011 tour Davy did w/The Monkees. Meanwhile, HB PW and thank you for your many musical gems.

This found photo brings to mind what I think Paul Williams/Roger Nichols had in mind when they wrote the lyrics and music, respectively, to OUT IN THE COUNTRY (1970)! Even though it was a huge hit for 70's band Three Dog Night, there's just no version that can compete with Paul's rendition on his LIFE GOES ON album. Nothin beats a Paul Williams song, as sung by Paul Williams.....
Don't forget to take back something worth remembering!
OUT IN THE COUNTRY
Lyrics: Paul Williams
Music: Roger Nichols
Whenever I need to leave it all behind Or feel the need to get away I find a quiet place, far from the human race Out in the country
Before the breathin' air is gone Before the sun is just a bright spot in the night-time Out where the rivers like to run I stand alone and take back somethin' worth rememberin'
Whenever I feel them closing in on me Or need a bit of room to move When life becomes too fast, I find relief at last Out in the country
Before the breathin' air is gone Before the sun is just a bright spot in the night-time Out where the rivers like to run I stand alone and take back somethin' worth rememberin'
Before the breathin' air is gone Before the sun is just a bright spot in the night-time Out where the rivers like to run I stand alone and take back somethin' worth rememberin'
Before the breathin' air is gone Before the sun is just a bright spot in the night-time Out where the rivers like to run I stand alone and take back somethin' worth rememberin'

No one will never not convince me that Storm was only paired with T’Challa just because they’re both black. Like it’s giving when Cartman met Nichole and even though Nichole and Kyle obviously liked each other he wanted her with Token/Tolkien just because they’re both black. Like there has been so many options for Storm but they put her with T’Challa why ?
And then like it kills me to see people praise it and be like “Oh black love” this and “Perfect couple that” and just eat it up because it’s “black love” but it’s giving “Storm has so much potential romantic chemistry with many of her own teammates but Shes black and I don’t think that’ll fly well with our white audience so… let’s put her with the blackest character we have ! That way, we can pander to black people because we all know black people love Storm and T’Challa so why not combine the two while also keeping our white audience happy !”
It reminds me of how the MCU fandom would just ship Sam with any black hero just because they were black because why tf are you shipping Sam and M’Baku ? All because you don’t want him with Steve and Bucky, who he has more chemistry with yall said “let’s ship him with a random dude he’s probably barely spoken to ! They’re both black so it works !”
It also reminds me of when the Overwatch fandom was just shipping Lucio with any black hero back in the day and mind you we only had like one for the longest time because why tf are you shipping Lucio with Doomfist, a terrorist who has hurt his friends and Efi, and underage girl ? Thankfully it kind of stopped as more black heroes got added and Overwatch died down but like I was 15 and seeing Lucio x Doomfist fanart and looking at it like “In what way does this make sense ?”
Like it happens way more in fandom than people think.

According to CREW, a nonpartisan group, beyond this promise of police immunity (which is already happening as we've seen time and again), Trump has plans to militarize the police against "people experiencing homelessness, 'wag[e] war' on drug dealers, crack down on border crossings and ramp up the use of the death penalty. Many of these plans would represent an unprecedented expansion of presidential power and could lead to a slippery slope of weaponizing the federal government against civilians and infringing their civil liberties."
If you want to sit this election out (and I would encourage that you don't), the least you can do is know what the stakes are.
More lives lost to police violence and yet more vulnerable people like Sonya Massey dead.
Yes, the Democrats aren't perfect, blah blah blah. I'm tired of this one-sided argument. Go yell at a tree, be an adult, and vote on behalf of people who aren't as privileged as you are.
