Say... Without the Raccoon City accident, with and without umbrella, what kind of police officer do you think Leon would have been?

i don't think he would've stayed a cop for very long.

once he found out the truth about brian irons, he would try to be a whistleblower about it, and it'd go very badly for him. even if we remove umbrella, it doesn't change irons himself. he'll still be mired in corruption, regardless of whose money he's taking.

and even if we remove leon from raccoon city and place him somewhere else, i still don't think he'd ever fully buy into the idea of the "blue wall of silence" (my law enforcement professor called it the "blue curtain" when i was in college; it's a very real thing), and he'd end up jaded and disillusioned no matter where he went.

the problem is that he joined the force in 1998 -- a time in which neither body cams nor dash cams existed. this is also an era in which police weren't at all focused on preventative approaches to curbing crime -- they were purely a reactionary force.

my college professors told stories of a whole bunch of fucked up shit they saw in the 90s. and that's not even touching on the incompetence. apparently it was common practice to pull off to the side of the highway as though you were trying to catch speeders and just fucking take a nap, especially during night shift.

like, if you think the police are bad now, you should've seen them in the fucking 90s, when they had pretty much no oversight and no sense of accountability at all. rodney king would like to have a word with you.

so, yeah. i think leon would've tried to stubbornly stick it out and be the change he wanted to see, but i don't see that lasting for more than maybe 10 years. maximum. by the time he hit his 30s, he would've been off doing something else.

assuming, you know. irons didn't end up planting shit on him and getting him arrested. or just having him shot.

Happy New Year, Here's Some Fanfic...

Here's to another successful rotation around the sun! In honor of all of us getting through some pretty awful crap, of experiencing some wild and entertaining moments, and of getting to feel even a few minutes of immeasurable joy this past year, I'm posting my 'anthology' of one-shots and stories for y'all.

I don't have a lot to give you. But I do have old words and fresh ideas. So for all of you who know me, who have stuck with my stories, or simply liked some as you went along, I hope every good thing happens to you this year.

I hope your coffee or tea or energy drink always tastes perfect, and that when you step out your door, you always see a reason to smile. I hope you never have to step on a lego while barefoot, that you always find a spoon when you need one, and that your dog / cat / raccoon / possum / unicorn continues to do things you find indescribably adorable. I hope you know that in this vast universe of loneliness and exhaustion and 'something's not quite right,' you've got me. You've got that guy over there. You've got all of us.

We don't have it all together. No one does. We're all making it up as we go along. But that doesn't mean we have to do it alone.

It's okay to feel small and lost. It's okay to not have a resolution. It's okay that all you did was get up this morning. All these wishes I'm sending out into the ether belong to you, too.

So, as old and worn out as the saying goes, Happy New Year.

I'm stuck between Haven/Liam brainrot and Sierra/Rodney brainrot so you get a 2 for 1 deal on this one lmao.

Who initiated the relationship, and how did it go?

Sierra/Rodney: Sierra initiated the relationship lmao. They'd known each other since they were children, but Rodney was super preoccupied with trying to be a good son and all his demon hunter training so it took her being EXTREMELY blunt about her feelings to get him to realize she wanted to date him. Rodney was super hesitant due to his family obligations and stuff, but then he remembered how head over heels in love with her he was, so he made it work.

Haven/Liam: Liam had to be the initiator here (after a lot of backstage setting up by one of Haven and Liam's mutual friends to try and force these idiots together). Haven was in a mood where even the thought of having romantic feelings made her feel like a rabid raccoon in a cage, so she would never have made the first move. At first, Liam thought Haven was going to kill him after he asked her out, but he was shocked when Haven turned bright red and said she liked him too.

Did they have an official first date? If so, what was it like?

Sierra/Rodney: Sort of. Rodney took Sierra out to get dinner at their favorite little restaurant. Then they went back to Sierra's house and watched some cheesy movies together.

Haven/Liam: Their first date was a movie date to go see a horror movie, because the only real interest of Haven's that Liam really knew was that she liked scary movies (and their mutual friend told him that that's what he should do). It was SO awkward because neither of them are really date people, and Haven got a little too into the movie. Things relaxed a little bit when they went back to Liam's place, and then there was a cute little moment where Haven wasn't acting feral and she actually admitted how nice it was to do something normal for once.

What was their first kiss like?

Sierra/Rodney: It was a little awkward and hesitant because neither of them had dated before, and they had been friends for so long that they both weren't sure how to approach it.

Haven/Liam: Well, Haven sometimes treats intimacy as a challenge that she can win, so their first kiss was very intense and Liam ended up shoved against the wall. This was how Liam found out his type is women that can easily kill him.

Were they each other’s first anything (kiss, relationship, etc.)?

Sierra/Rodney: They were each other's first relationship, but only Rodney's first kiss. They were also each other's firsts for just about everything else.

Haven/Liam: This was Haven's first long-term relationship, but for everything else, both Haven and Liam had had firsts with other people.

What’s their height difference? Age difference?

Sierra/Rodney: Rodney is about 6 inches taller than Sierra. Rodney is also a year older, I believe.

Haven/Liam: There's not much of a height difference here since they are roughly the same height, but Haven is probably somewhere between 200 and 300 years old (although mentally she's probably closer to late 20's to mid-30's) when she meets Liam, and Liam is in his late 30's.

Red is trying to teach Desmond how to fight. It's like his body knows the moves, but he's rusty because he hasn't practiced since he was... Taller and other odd off moments. This is because, his training came from his ancestors genetic memories, and they had different movements and body shapes. Oh it works fine to the untrained eye, but to anyone who knows what they are doing, (and Red, trained to exploit weakness) it's off. Someone could take ruthless advantage of that

Eclipse, why can zombies hear?  I know all senses lead to the brain, but while it breaks some parts, others gain like some kind of ecolocation .smell Intersects with the parts of the brain responsible for memory and emotion, so I get why that isn't the sense to improve, but why specifically hearing? Both hearing and touch are a type of mechanosensation.  I get why their sense of touched decreased, as their dead status means the nerves arnt working anymore, but why would that increase the hearing? What changed them enough that the hearing is working at above average Frequencies? Why is audio the main system giving the brain data?

Yah I like the worldbuilding that goes into fusions and alternate worlds, so I want to get it right. I want the characters to fit in the setting.

In the comics, Tony is the perfect person to use this, in part beacuse he is a super genius to quote the part that have me the idea to have Tony capable of AC calculations

"Tony's genius allows him to act as a futurist, a person capable of intuiting the future based on current trends, to the point of foreshadowing that a situation like the superhuman Civil War was going to happen years before it did. This ability also extends to a much smaller scale, with Tony being capable of predicting with accuracy the way an interaction with a given individual will go down even before talking with them, a faculty that makes it really hard for human interactions to surprise him, and causes him to sometimes finish other people's sentences."

Not That I plan to go that far, with it, it's going to have drawbacks.

Whenever Tony gets on calculating something, he needs foccus. He can do, and uses it most for small things (like cards) , but on bigger projects, he talks fast and does a lot of writting on paper, and Red takes notes and offers up possibilities as parameters. Staying too long, or searching too far out can increase the chances of insanity. Not useing in your life, can up the probablity of being hit by a big one unexpectedly, and it's better to plan and have limits of the future you are trying to view, like directions on an event of a probability, rather then flying blind. Its not going to be plot convieant visions.

Notes:

There are several different ways to do the complex known as "Man-Makers" and we discussed most of them, ultimately choosing one that almost everyone agreed on. It's a tuff exercise and I was surprised how fast everyone did this WOD. I know you are thinking that athletes probably didn't do the reps properly, but I watched closely and everyone did their best, including Herb.

The Barn has rodent (s). This is nothing new. The bird seed stored indoors is a major attraction, therefore we have had a mouse, chipmunk, or the occasional squirrel for years. This rodent is different. It's a determined, Terminator Rodent. Everything I have tried in the past to chase them away, trap, or kill them has met with failure. Glue traps, rat-traps, scary steel jawed varmint traps, rat-poison cubes, Have-a-Heart live traps baited with crunchy Peanut Butter, but nothing works. Last month I even applied at the Williamson County Animal Rescue for a Barn Cat, but they only re-home them in PAIRS, and I don't want 2 Barn Cats. Long ago, I put all the bird seed in a sturdy RubberMaid garbage can with a secure top.

Today the Terminator Rodent crossed a line. It chewed a hole in the dry-wall and pulled out a wheel-barrel load of pink insulation. The hole is exactly 2 inches in diameter and perfectly round. It is 5 1/2 inches up from a flat surface. We carefully measured the hole thinking it would give us a better idea of who our enemy is. Lew says Chipmunk, Warren A says Squirrel, Timmy votes Vole (not U.T. Vol), leaving us Mice and Rats, the hole being too small to consider Raccoon/O'Possum/or Armadillo.

We launched a full-scale Rodent assault today, using everything we have used in the past, ALL AT ONCE. We put poison cubes through the hole and into the wall, Peanut Butter in the Have-A-Heart traps, Peanuts-in-the-shell scattered all around dozens of glue traps placed in sneaky places, and spring traps capable of severing a human finger.

If this fails, the plan is to stay up all night wearing a head-lamp and carrying a powerful pellet gun, keeping a watch on an open jar of Peanut Butter on the floor. Next will be a shotgun loaded with bird-shot.

In less than 100 hours, Kayla will return from her long absence. After that I won't care about Rodents.

Tuesday at 4 PM.

Don't bring bottled water for a while. We have 10 Cases now.
