Mini Fanfic #1197: A Date With the Princess of Hyrule (SSBU X Fire Emblem)
5:40p.m. at the Smash Mansion's Entrance Room........
Owain: (Rushing Himself Down the Stairs While Waving Hello to his Date) Salutations again, my fair maiden! Apologies for my late arrival. Lucina insisted on helping look in tip-shape for special evening.......(Eyes Begins to Slowly Widened in Awe at What is Presented in Front of his View Point Right Now)
Zelda: (Smiles Sheepishly While Wearing a Pink, Sleeveless Dress) Mewwy's been preping me up for this date too, soIt's no worries.
Owain: I can see why.....You look even more beautiful than you were originally.
Zelda: (Eyes Widened in Genuine Surprise While Blushing) R-Really?~
Owain: Yes....(Realizes What He Just Said Before Blushing and Moves his Hands Around in Defense) N-N-Not to say that you didn't look gorgeous before! You will always be gorgeous to me no matter what you wear!
Zelda: (Giggles Softly) Oho you charmer, thank you!~ (Forms a Playful, Flirty Smirk on get Face) And can I say that you have been looking very dashing and handsome as of late?~ Especially right now. I really love how good that trench coat looks on you~
Owain: (Chuckles Lightly) Is that right? (Shows Off the Trench Coat He's Wearing) I wouldn't exactly call this my best look, but I do how well it reflects my personality and helps me blend into this moderate society.
Dark Pit: (Walks By) Looking good, Yliston.
Owain: (Bows to Pitto) Why, thank you, my good ma- Hey!
Zelda: ('Sigh') Just ignore him, Owain. (Forms a Teasing Smirk While Whispering into Owain's Ear) He goes by Pitto-Kins these days.
Owain: Oh believe me, I'm full aware. He said he'll kill me if I ever call him that.....
Zelda: (Happily Hugs her Date) Don't worry. I won't let him harm you, neither will his girlfriends. (Extends her Arm Out in the Mid Air and Slowly Moving it to the Side) But now it's time we plan our day together in the town! I'd say we start by doing a little shopping around mall and go venturing from there.
Lucina: (Walking Down the Stairs) Not without money!~
Mewtwo: (Teleports his Way Downstairs Carrying a Pink Purse Bag) You left your purse on the bed.
Zelda: (Gasps Once She Notices She Wasn't Carrying One Beside Her) That's right! I knew I forgot something. (Receives the Purse Mewtwo's Giving Her) Thanks for the lookout, Mewwy.
Mewtwo: (Simply Nodded) It's what I do.
Lucina: (Tighten Up Owain's Collar) Now, Owain, while you're on date, I want you to be more aware amd cautious around your surroundings, especially out in the streets. It gotten more busy in this time season.
Owain: Cousin, I've walked among those streets more times than i can count thus far. I'll be just fine.
Lucina: ('Sigh') I know you will. It's just me worrying over my one and only baby cousin like I always do is all.
Owain: (Gives his Older Cousin a Deadpinned Look on his Face) How long are you gonna keep insisting that I'm younger than you?
Lucina: For as long as I so well pleased. (Gives Owain a Peck on the Cheek)
Zelda: (Happily Salutes to Lucona) I'll be sure to keep your baby cousin safe from here on out, Lucina!~
Owain: (Comically Glares at his Date) Don't play along with this foolish charade!!
Mewtwo: Owain.
Owain: (Turns to see Mewtwo Staring at Him) Yes?
Mewtwo: I've never been one to worry, but Zelda means more to me than life itself. All I asked from you is that you would keep her safe for the time being.
Owain: (Instantly Gets Down on One Knee and Bows to the Legendary Pokémon) Of course. I vow to protect her with my very life!
Mewtwo: You....really don't nerd to form this gesture towards me, but I'll take your word for it regardless.
Zekda: (Turns to her Best Friend) Oh Mewwy, you don't need to worry. I can take care of myself just fine.
Mewtwo: (Crosses his Arms) I'm aware. I just.....(Starts Blushing and Turning Away a Bit) wanted to make sure that you're in good enough hands. Nothing more
Zelda: (Giggles Softly While Playfully Rolling her Eyes a Bit) Sure you are, you sweetheart~ (Gives Mewtwo a Kiss on the Cheek Walking Over and Grab Hold of Owain's Hand) Now, if you two will excuse us, we have a lovely date to get to.
Owain: (Happily Waves Goodbye to the Duo) Do not wait up for too long-Woah! (Notices a Pink Light Surrounding Him and Zelda Before Being Warp Out of the Room)
Lucina: H-Have fun! (Let's Out Another Sigh)
Mewtwo: You're still worried about them, aren't you?
Lucina: Yeah, but.....I'm sure they'll be just fine out there. (Turns to Mewtwo) They are a pretty strong pair after all.
Mewtwo: (Nodded in Agreement) You're not wrong there. But-
Lucina: I-I still wanna check up on them! In secret! (Shyly Twiddling her Two Fingers Around) At....least until the date is ttuly over with......
Mewtwo: ('Sighs in Defeat') You and me both. Let's go. (Grabs onto Lucina's Hand Before Teleporting Them Out if the Room)
Meanwhile at the Smash Direct Mall......
Owain: (Looks Up at the Escalator in Front of Him and Zelda) So these stairs could help reach you up or down to your destination with little to no setback?
Zelda: (Happily Nodded) Yep. Hence why they are called escalators.
Owain: Fascinating.....
Zelda: Wanna take a ride on one?
Owain: (Turns to Zelda) Only if you don't mind.
Zelda: Trust me, I won't. We need to up a floor anyways.
Owain: Ah. Well, If that's the case.....(Points Towards the Escalator in a Heroic Like Fashion) Let us commence onwards!
Zelda: (Giggles Softly) Sure thing, captain~ (Walks Over to the Escalator Along with Her Date)
The couple set their foot one of the same staircase together as it moves them up to a top. A few seconds rolls by before Zelda felt Owain's hand gently holding onto hers. She turns back to him with the softest smile she could muster as laying the side of her onto his shoulder, enjoying the rest of the ride upward.
Few Minutes Later at the Sports Store
Zelda: (Shows Off a Pink Varsity Jacket She's Wearing) Sooooo?~ Whatcha think? (Forms a Model Like Pose) Looks pretty athletic on me?~ (Strikess Another Model Pose) Maybe a little more varsity like?~
Owain: (Happily Applauses Zelda's New Look) All of the above! The color matches your dress perfectly.
Zelda: (Smiles Brightly) Right!?~ And check this out. (Turns Herself Around While Showing Off the Jacket's Logo to Owain) It has the Triforce and the Master Sword merged into one logo!
Owain: Very creative indeed. ('Sigh') If only I could find a jacket with equal amount of majestic....
Zelda: You mean like.....(Sows Owain a Purple Colored Varsity Jacket with his Name Printed Above the Blazing Sword) This one?~
Owain: (Let's Out a Loud Gasps as His Eyes Starts to Sparkle at the Jacket in Front) It's so beautiful......
Few Minutes Later at the Fancy Clothes Store..........
Zelda: (Eyes Widened and Sparkling at What is In Front of Her) Whaaa......
Owain: (Wearing a Black Butler Like Tuxedo) Normally, I've never been one to wear anything fancy related, but I suppose this suit wouldn't be too bad to have around for future gathering events. (Turns his Attention to his Date) What do you think, Zelda? Does this a look decent on me at least or is this a bit too much?
Zelda: ..........................Marry me.
Owain: What.
Zelda: (Immediately Comes Back to Reality) GREAT! (Puts a Bright, Awkward Smile on her Face) I-I think you great in that suit! D-Dashing even.
Owain: (Smiles Back at the Princess) Ah, many thanks, your highness. Glad to see I'm living up to your highest of standards.
Zelda: ('Sighs in Relief') You're wel- (Raises an Eyebrow in Confusion) Wait what? Owain, you don't need to try to impress me just because I'm a princess.
Owain: I don't? Are you certain?
Zelda: (Happily Nodded) I'm positive. I think you're already amazing just the way you are.
Owain: (Heart Begins to Melt in Genuine Happiness Before Nodding) ('Hm') Likewise, your ma-Uh. Zelda. Thank you again.
Few Minutes Later at the Bookstore: Manga Section......
Owain: (Already in Tears While Reading One of the Manga Books Zelda Handed Him) So young....('Sniff') He was going to return to his studies....and live out the rest of his days, peacefully....('Sniff') And that dreaded BASTARD Diavolo just swoop RIGHT IN and took it away from him!! (Finally Begins to Bawl his Eyes Out) It's so unfair....
Zelda: (Sighs While Gently Rubbing Owain's Back) That's the unexpected cruelty in the world of manga and anime for ya, Owain. You never know which beloved character is gonna get the axe during the runtime of the story, not even the main characters are safe. That being said.....(Starts Tearing Up as Well) Why did they have the audacity to kill off Naranicaaaaaaa!~ (Hugs Owain as She Joins Him on the Crying Fest)
A Couple of Hours Later at the Arcades......
Everyone gathered around the Dance Dance Revolution machine as they watch and root for our main couple dancing their feet off together on seperate dancing pats nonstop.
Zelda: (Starts Panting While Dancing Along with Owain) Wow.....I didn't.....take you.....for a....dancer, Owain......You're doing......fantastic so far!
Owain: Many.....Thanks.....Zelda!......I been part of....to many.....dance lessons.....in my youth......Hated it......But nice to have it pay off for once! But you......are TRUE natural at this.....My highness!
Zelda: That's.....mostly cause I come.....and dance on occasions.....with friends.....But hey.....just to give you a heads up......we're almost close to the end, so......we gotta do a little freestyle to wrap this up.....
Owain: Freestyle......you say?.....sat?......
Zelda: Yep! Which should start......at anyyyyy second now........Oh! Ten seconds and counting actually! (Turns to Owain) Hey, you mind if I take the lead on this one?
Owain: I don't see why-NOT!
Zelda takes Owain by the hand, spins him around, and strikes a salsa like pose before catching him in pretzel dip position, staring deep inyo each other's eyes while panting even more in exhaustion.
As the music finally comes to a close, everyone in the crowd leans their visions in towards the screen, awaiting for the final results. It wasn't long for the couple's score to start sky rocketing itself up to the top of the leader board as the game's announcer to scream out "WOW! It's a new record!" causing the audience to cheer in rejoice on cue.
Owain: That.....was truly remarkable!.....Your......exquisite dance skills exceeded mines to a stand still!
Zelda: Thanks........I learned....a thing or two about.....salsa dancing.....from that class I accidentally took.....a looong while back....Funny story actually, but that's beside the point.....(Helps Owain Back Up) So whatcha think about the game so far?
Owain: (Smiles Brightly) Fun. Exhausting as all inferno hell, but atill fun nonetheless. And....can I just say that you have the most beautiful eyes I've ever laid my eyes upon? Cause you do. (Starts Blushing) Very much so I may add.
Zelda: (Giggles Softly) Thanks~ (Starts Blushing Again as She Looks Back into Owain's Eyes) Yours are beautiful too~
The two slowly leans in to one another closer, until a Loyd, booming voice bringing them back to reality
Random Guy: OI! Are you gonna move aside and let us play or what?
Owain/Zelda: S-Sorry! (Starts Walking Away From the Dance Pats Together, Holding Hands)
Zelda: Let's grab our stuff and get out of here. You hungry?
Owain: A little bit, yes.
Zelda: Good. I know a perfect place we can eat.
Few Minutes of Arriving to La Shy Guy's Café Later........
Zelda: (Burst Out Laughing) No way!~ Your mom named ALL of her healing staffs after you?~
Owain: (Lounging on the Table, Pouting in Annoyance) Every. Last. One of them. And every time we participate in the battlefield, she SOMEHOW managed to break each of them in half at the very end! Even the most durable healing staffs ever hand crafted, gets SNAPPED IN HALF!!
Zelda: Oh nohoho!~ You poor thing~ (Let's Oiut a Sigh Before Wiping a Tear Away From her Eyes) It sounds to me that mother yours has been real handful to you, huh?
Owain: ('Sighs Heavily') Ohhhh you don't know the half of it......That woman's more stubborn and immature than I was as a child! (Let's Out Another Sigh) But regardless....(Smiles a Little) She's still the most loving, nurturing, hell, even the most inspiring mother a young man like could ever ask for and learned from growing up. A mother I have.....(Slowly Begins to Frown at the Thought of his Own Mother) Yet to see again in....so long.......
Zelda: (Starts Frowning in Worry) Owain? Is everything okay?
Owain: (Immediately Comes Back to Reality Before Putting on his Signature Smile) Oh! Y-Yeah! I'm alright, truly! (Let's Out a Chuckle) I was lost in my own thoughts again. (Chuckles Some More) Just thinking about my own mother....how wonderful sje truly is.....(Starts Frowning Again) How much I missed her dearly.....And most of all- (Looks Down at the Cup of Latte He Ordered) How......completely stupid and idiotic I was into leaving her and the others behind on that very night, worried sick.....('Sighs Very Heavily') I wouldn't even blame her if she decided to hate me after all this time.
Zelda: I don't think she hates you.
Owain: (Looks Up Back at his Date in Front of Him) You....don't?
Zelda: Yeah. I mean....Sure, there's no doubt in my mind that she's sad, scared, and....probably even mad at you for what you've done in the past, but if there's one thing my family here has taught me thus far is that most moms won't EVER stop loving their children, no matter how upset they are with them from time to time. And from what you've told me about your mom, she doesn't seem like the type to a hold a grudge towards anyone, let alone her own son, right?
Owain: Well...... I suppose not. (Grabs onto his Chin While Thinking) In fact, I don't think I seemed to recall ever seeing express pure anger at anyone before, at least compared to the rest of our family.
Zelda: Okay, that's good! Now, think back to the day where you and Lucina saw each other again for the first time in a long run. Did she hold any resentment towards you for leaving?
Owain: No. I mean, sure, she was obviously crossed with me to the high heavens, but she still love and care for me to tis very day.
???????: That's right! Eep! (Quickly Hides Behind the Newspaper She and Another Person Beside Her is Holding)
Zelda: (Turns to the Source of the Suddenly Voice Behind) What the-
Owain: (Instantly Recognizes that Voice) Lucina? Is that you over there?
Lucina: No!.......It's Tracy.
Owain: (Starts Glaring at his Cousin Hiding) Oh, even try to throw us off! You and I both know how terrible you are at lying. Reveal yourself this instant, young lady!!
Zelda: (Crosses her Arms With a Sisterly Like Glare on her Face) You too, Mewwy. Come on out.
Mewtwo: You mistake me for someone else.
Zelda: (Raises an Eyebrow) Really. Then who's nails polished hand I see holding that newspaper over there?
Mewtwo: (Hides his Purple Colored Nails Polished Hand From Zelda's Sight) No one I know of.
Zelda: Mewwy!
Mewtwo: ('Sighs in Defeat') Fine. (Puts the Newspaper Down on the Table Revealing Himself and Lucina) You caught us red-handed. We've been following you for some time now.
Lucina: We just wanted make sure you two were having a good time this evening.
Mewtwo: (Crosses his Arms) It seems our concern for you both was far too for either of us ignore completely.
Zelalda: Aww~
Lucina: ('Sigh') Look, we're more than willing to make up for what we did later. (Gets Up From her Seat) Right now, I believe it's high time we have a discuss about your mother, cousin.
Owain: ('Groans a Bit') Do we have to?
Lucina: (Gives Owain a Sisterly Glare of her Own) Yes, we do! You and I both know that Aunt Lissa adored you ever since the day you were first born.
Owain: Of course! (Lowers his Head Down) But I still hurt her.......
Lucina: (Simply Nodded) That you did. But I know you will have what it takes to make things right with her if you two ever cross paths again. (Smiles Softly) What kind of cousin would I be if I don't believe in you all the way?
Owain: (Forms a Teasing Smirk on his Face) An overbearing, stalkerish one perhaps?~
Lucina: (Comically Glares at her Cousin) Quiet!!
Owain: (Chuckles Lightly) Kidding, kidding, honest to God! But in all seriousness thiugh- (Smiles Softly) I thank you once again, Lucina. (Turns Back to his Date) You too, Zelda. I probably would've been in a downer mood if it wasn't for your help.
Zelda: (Smiles Back at Owain) It's really no problem at all, Owain. I'm just happy to hel- (Suddenly Felt Owain's Lip Giving her Cheek a Single Kiss)
Owain: (Pulls Away Before Forming a Cheeky Grin) And there you go! Consider this singular kiss another thank you for the kiss you've graciously given me earlier this morning. As.....(Starts Blushing While Rubbing the Back of his Head Back and Forth) Well as for......spending time with me this evening.....I had a really great- (Suddebly Felt Zelda Grabbing Onto his Hand as He Turns to See Her Staring at Him) time?
Zelda: Owain, I had a great time as well and I really really really like you to boot. Please be my boyfriend~
Owain: (Stares at Zelda For a Brief Second Before Smiling Again and Gently Squeezing her Hand) Yes, It would be my deepest honor to be your boyfriend, mi-
Zelda happily squeals in rejoice before reaching over and kissing him on the lips. It surprises the dark mage at first, but it didn't took him long to expresses his newfound love for her with a kiss of his own.
Mewtwo: (Watches Everything Plays Out in Front of Him and Lucina) It seems their relationship is now official.
Lucina: (Happily Nodded in Agreement) I'm glad. They maje such an adorable pair~ ('Sigh') I really i didn't leave my phone at the room today. I could've been taken tons of pictures of this right now!
Mewtwo: (Shrugs) It's probably for the best. I'm certain this won't be the last we will ever see them display this sort of affection.
Lucina: True. But one things first certain....(Forms a Bit if a Teasing Smirk on her Face) I am going enjoy every moment of me teasing Owain about this.
Mewtwo: (Smirks a Bit as Well) A few teasings here and there wouldn't hurt anyone. (Grabs his Chin While Thinking) Although now that we're here, I suppose now would be a perfect to inform Toon that lost the bet he made with the other kids a while back on whether or not Zelda would make the first new.
Lucina: (Turns to Mewtwo With a Deadpinned Look on her Face) We really need to get these kids to stop making bets one of these days.
Mewtwo: ('Sigh') I know.
Bonus
Ylisse Castle, The Princess' Bedroom........
?????: So.....He's now in this mansion you, Chrom, and Lucina have been living at.....Safe?
Robin: (Happily Nodded) Safe and sound, yes. I...honestly can't begin to describe how surprised I was when I first saw him in that dining room. So many intense emotions riding around in my-
'Sniff' 'Sniff'
Robin: (Starts Getting a Bit Worried as He Watches the Love of his Life Sitting Next to Him in Their Bed, in Distress) Lissa, are you okay?
Lissa: Yeah. ('Sniff') (Tries Wiping The Tears Away) I'm good. It's just.....('Sniff') This is really a lot to take in right now, you know!? ('Sniff') I'm sorry......
Robin: (Gives Lissa a Hug) It's okay. I understand how you feel completely. I missed and worried for him too. ('Sigh in Relief') And it makes me all the more happy to have him right by our side again.....
Lissa: Yeah, well....('Sniff') I swear.....('Sniff') I am going.....To KILL that knuckleheaded boy the next time I see him!
Robin: (Chuckles Lightly) Is that right?
Lissa: Yeah! ('Sniff') And after that.....I am going hug him and love him and never let go for God knows how long- I DON'T CARE!!!
Robin: Even when people will start watching?
Lissa: (Gives her Husband the Most Determined Look He Gas Ever Seen Her Make) You goddamn right!! I'm gonna smother and embarrass the ever living crap outta him for the whole world to see! (Starts Pouting) Then he'll think twice about leaving his poor mother alone worried sick for days on end!
Robin: (Chuckles Lightly) I'm sure he'll receive his punishment in due time. ('Yawn') But right now, I think it's high time we get some much need rest for now, don'tcha think?
Lissa: ('Sighs Relaxingly') You read my mind perfectly, dear. (Starts Snuggling Onto Robin) We could use the rest day to ourselves tomorrow after all the stupid paperwork we had to do all night.
Robin: Sounds like a plan.
Lissa: I haven't even planned anything yet!
Robin: I know. (Smiles Softly) I'm just happy to get to spend time with you again.
Lissa: (Smiles Back at Robin) Me too~ (Gives Robin a Kiss on the Lips) I love you so much, Robin~
Robin: Love you too, dear. Have a good night.

thinking about the fe awakening baby banner in feh again. they shoulda squeezed sully in there. cuz it’s said in her support with chrom that they literally knew and played with each other in childhood and!!! i kinda wanna see a rambunctious little sully paired up with an equally little chrom. that would have been cute i think :]
#mayor talk#fe#feh#i would sacrifice baby emmeryn from the batch we got#yes i’m heavily biased i want to keep both baby robins for obvious reasons#but i don’t wanna sacrifice lissa cuz she’s cute and i really liked seeing frederick as a boy so… keep him too#but anyway chrom x silly is probably my second favorite ship for chrom#the one i go for when im playing male robin [i don’t have the awakening gay mod]#i do love a good childhood friends to lovers story. even though sully is like the least qualified to be married to a prince LMAO

This was also the first appearance of a re-cast Nikki Wood. Nikki was played by K.D. Aubert in this episode. She had a second appearance later in S7. (Previous post on the previous Nikki Wood.)

After the Chrobin doodles, had to include a little more of the Early Game Cast:
Lissa and Frederick!
For Lissa, I always HC’d that when she spoke she would be very animated--her little sprites for scenes seems to do the most flailing and gesturing--so naturally I thought she’d always have a free hand to gesture and emphasize points.
As for Frederick, always had a soft spot for the big lug! (And I indulgently exaggerated his height diff lmao)
;’) Now back to the drawing board and Work Art for me for a little while

Mini Fanfic #1201: A Marvelous Reunion Between Mother and Son (Fire Emblem X SSBU)
1:54 p.m. A Few Feet Outside of the Smash Mansion's Gates.......
Lissa and Olivia, dressed in more casual clothes, are happily humming together as they walk alongside their respective husbands and love ones together in the sidewalks.
Robin: (Chuckles Lightly While Carrying a Few of his Wife's Shopping Bags) Nice humming duet you did there, ladies~
Chrom: (Smiles Softly While Carrying Bags For his Wife as Well) We take it you two are liking it here so far?
Lissa: (Happily Hugs Robin's Arm) More anything!~ You guys weren't kidding when you said this world is so big, modern, and a lot more advance than ours are. How much are one of those movibg thing-a-ma-jigs riding around the road? (Forms a Cheeky Grin on her Face) Momma wants a test drive!~
Robin: (Snickers a Bit) Thing-a-Ma-Jigs?
Chrom: (Sighs While Rolling his Eyes) They're called cars, Lissa. Most of them cost a fortune to own and you can't drive any of them until you passed two seperate tests.
Lissa: (Eyes Widened in Complete Shock) Two Tests!?
Chrom: Yep. Permit and driving, in an orderly fashion of course. I can help you study if you're up for it.
Lissa: ('Sighs in a Bit of Defeat') I'll pass. Knowing my luck in tests, I would probably only get two questions right......
Robin: You know, if it makes you feel better, I could always take you around the rest of the city on a motorcycle sometime. I just learned how drive a few days ago to be exact. (Shows his Wife a Picture Him and his Brown and Gold Colored Motorcycle on hid Phone)
Lissa: Ooh~ Looks stunning~
Robin: Me or the bike?
Lissa: (Forms at Bit of a Seductive Smirk) Yes~ (Gives her Husband a Kiss on the Lips)
Olivia: (Smiles Softly at her Husband, Chrom) We can see why you three enjoyed living here for so long. This is such a lovely place.
Chrom: (Turns to Olivia) You're welcome to move in with us if you like. The more, the merrier saying has been around in the Smash Family for some time now. (Starts Blushing a Bit) Not to mention the fact that I've.....missed you quite a lot since the first day I've arrived here~
Olivia: (Heart Begins to Melt in Genuine Happiness) Oh Chrom~ (Hugs Chrim Right Next to Her) I missed you too, dear~ (Starts Getting a Bit More Timid abd Shy) B-But are you sure you want us to stay? We wouldn't want make your home more crowded than it already is. Or at least I don't want to-
Lissa: HOLY FLIPPING PANCAKES!!
Olivia: (Quickly Turns to her Sister in Law in Panic) Lissa? What's wr- (Eyes Widened in Genuine Surprise at the Smash Mansion in Front of Her and the Others) Oh my.......
Lissa: THIS is the mansion you guys lived at!? It's bigger than our castle back home, what the heck!?
Olivia: So....huge......
Gerome: And far more royal and medieval looking than any other mansions I've witnessed so far.
Chrom: (Starts Rubbing The Back of his Head Back and Forth While Smiling Sheepishly) Yeah.....I was surprised when I saw it for the rest time, can't tell you how many times I gotten myself lost trying to find the bed and bathroom every night.
Robin: (Rolls his Eyes) And how many times I have to help him out in the process. I'll guide you all to every room inside. (Continues Walking Along Everyone Else) And quickly before the king of all sleepwalkers somehow splits us us halfway through.
The two ladies giggles softly as they join up with Robin, leaving the King of Ylisse scowling a bit.
Chrom: ('Sigh') Honestly, Robin. At least have more faith in me than that. (Follows the Others Forward)
Gerome: (Turns to Lucina While Walking Alongside Her) So how have you been enjoying your new home as of late, Lucina?
Lucina: (Smiles Softly at her Old Friend) Pretty well all things considered. Everyone in the Smash Family can be outlandish, loud, and obnoxious at times, but I still love most of them regardless.
Gerome: Good. (Smirks a Bit) Though, I doubt they could ever be worst to deal with than everyone in our army back home.
Lucina: (Snickers a Bit Before Smirking Back) Oh, you'll see once we get inside the mansion, I can guarantee you that~ (Starts Smiling Again) That being said, I'd be lying fool if I say that I have never missed everyone of our friends and family since the day I arrived here. You included.
Gerome: Hm. Is that right?
Lucina: I-
Chrom: (Turns to the Kids Behind Him) Oh yeah, she has been missing you a whole lot these days. Thought about you all the time even.
Lucina: (Immediately Blushing as She Glares at Chrom) F-Father!!
Chrom: What? It's the truth, isn't it?
Robin: (Turns to Lucina Behind Him) You even blush every time his name gets brought up.
Gerome: (Starts Smirking at Lucina) Really now?~
Lucina: (Starts Glaring at Robin) Robin, be quiet!!
Olivia: (Clasps her Hands Together While Doting Over her Daughter) Oh honey, that's so sweet!~ I always knew you would have feelings for him from the very day you would try to impress him by wearing that lovely mask of yours, right next to him-
Lucina: MOTHER!!!
Gerome: (Chuckles Lightly While Placing his Hand onto Lucina's Shoulder) It's fine, Lucina. There's nothing inherently wrong with missing someone the most.
Lissa: (Gives her Niece a Reassuring Smile) Yeah. Especially when Geromey here's been missing and talking about you nonstop.
Gerome: (Eyes Widened Before Blushing and Glaring at the Queen of Ylisse) Your highness!
Lucina: (Starts Snickering) Wait!~ (Starts Smirking at a Now Embarrassed Wyvern Rider) Geromey?~
Gerome: ('Sigh') It's a nickname your aunt and mother has given for some time now. (Glare Piercing Towards Lissa's Eyes) And I seemed recall telling her numerous times, to NEVER call me that in public.
Lissa: Oh, don't be such a moody sourpuss, Geromey dear.
Lucina: (Giggles Softly at Gerome's Dispense)
Gerome: (Sighs Again Before Facepalming Himself) Case in point.
Lissa: I've been given the most nauseating nicknames imaginable growing up, which I will not ever disclose at this time- (Points at Chrom, Stopping Him From Saying Anything) Don't even think about it. The point is people are gonna give any amount of nicknames no matter how unbearable they sound. (Turns Back to the Mansion in a Far Distance) Best you can do is inevitably embrace it in a more calm, very collected man- ('GAAAAAASPS')
Olivia: Lissa, what's wrong now- (Suddebly Gasps as She Turns to See a Familiar Face Walking Out of the Mansion in the Far Distance) Oh my goodness....Is that really him?
Gerome: (Turns to the Person in Question) Yep. That's Owain alright. Doesn't really change much in the looks department.
Lucina: (Snickers a Bit) Yep. He's the same Owain as he always been. Magic of Darkness and all, what he would he always say.
Gerome: (Turns Back to Lucina) He's a Dark Mage now?
Lucina: Currently. I've never seen much of it in action, but I have heard that his skills in Dark Magic are a specticle for the eyes of the beholder.
Gerome: He told you all of that, didn't he?
Lucina: ('Sigh') He did. His dramatic theater attitude never left him since then
Gerome: (Smirks Again) No surprise there.
Robin: (Smiles Sheepishly) Dramaticness aside, he's grown a lot since the last we've seen of him. And I can't tell you how proud I am to be the father of-
Lissa: OOOOOOOOOWAAAAAAAAAAAAINNNN!!
Meanwhile in the Distance
Zelda: (Winces in the Sound of Sudden Screaming Before Quickly Cover her Ears Along with her Three Boys: Owain, Mewtwo, and Toon Link) ('Ugh') Where the heck is this screeching coming from?
Toon: (Turns to Mewtwo) Is there a wild.....potentially deadly pokemon on the loose or something?
Mewtwo: I don't sense aby of them around here. Even then, I doubt I ever encounter one sounding that like before.
Owain: (Lowers his Hand Down From his Ears a Bit) Wait a minute........I think recognized that screech from any- (Eyes Slowly Widens in Genuine Surprise at What I'd in Front of Him) Where......
Zelda: (Turns to Her Boyfriend) Owain, what's wrong?
Owain: It's.....Her.....She's here......
Toon: (Raises an Eyebrow in Confusion) Who? (Points at a Woman Screaming and Running Towards Them in the Far Distance) That lady running over here?
Owain: Yes. But that is no mere lady. That is....(Tears Begins to Build Up From his Eyes Before Extending his Arms Out, Running Over and Screaming Out.....) MOTHERRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!~
Lissa: OWAAAAIN!~
Owain: (Happily Waving Hello to his Mother) HI MOTHER!~
Lissa: Owain!
Owain: (Smiles Slowly Starts Faltering The More Stares at his Mother Coming Towards Him, Most Faster Than He Anticipated) Uh....Mother?
Lissa: (Angrily Running Faster Towards) OWAAAAAAAAAAIN!!!!
Owain: (Eyes Widened in Complete Fear Before Quickly Turning Himself Around, Now Running For his Dear Life) Oh bythemalciousairandseasNO!!!
Lissa: HEY! DON'T YOU DARE RUN AWAY FROM YOUR MOTHER, YOUNG MAN! COME BACK HERE!!!
Toon: So that's his mom the whole time, huh?.....(Grabs his Chin While Thinking) That would the blonde colored hair they shared from the looks of it.
Mewtwo: And the Screaming. (Turns to Zelda) What do think, Zelda?
Zelda: (Quickly Tidy Up the Spring Like Dress She's Currently Wearing) How do I look? Presentable? Acceptable? Decent looking at least!?
Mewtwo: (Gives his Best Friend a Deadpinned Look on his Face) You look fine, Zelda. Don't worry.
Toon: (Smiles Brightly) Yeah, you're a princess. You'll be fine! But lose that geeky side of yours just to be sure- (Suddenly Felt Mewtwo'a Shoulder Hitting His) Ow! What? I was just helping.
Mewtwo: (Sighs While Shaking his Head)
Owain: (Running Towards the Door) Move aside, move aside, MOVE ASIDE!
Lissa: (Still Chasing her Son) Owain, if you go inside that door, I swear I am going to- (Gets Pucked Up by the Arms by Her Older Brother Before Trying to Struggle Herself Free) H-Hey! Let go, Chrom!
Chrom: Not yet. Give it a minute or two.
Owain: Al....most.....theeeer-Wait, why I don't I feel I'm not- (Screechs Once He Figues Out That He's Levitating in Mid Air, Surrounded in Purple Magic)
Robin: (Uses his Magic to Keep Owain From Escaping While Giving him the Farherly Glare) Owain Everfield Yliston. What did I tell you about running away from your problems?
Owain: To.....keep running until your feet is set to blaze?
Owain forms an awkward smile. Robin was not amused.
Owain: ('Sighs in Defeat') Stop running and face it head on.....No matter how nerve wrecking it gets down the line.....
Robin: (Simply Nodded in Approval) That's right. I don't blame you for being nervous right now, but your mother has been missing you dearly for god knows how long and I know for a fact that you miss her too. So man yourself up and talk to her. Please.
Owain: (Sighs Before Nodding to is Father's Command) Yes sir. I'm ready to face the music.
Robin: Good. (Lowers Owain Down, Releasing From the Magic Before Turning Back to his Brother in Law) Chrom.
Chrom: Got it. He's all yours, sis. (Finally Lets Lissa Go)
Lissa: (Politely Bows to Chrom) Thank you. (Continues Charging Few Speed Towards her Son) RAAAAAAAAAH!
Owain: Waitwaitwaitwaitwai- (Immediately Gets Hug Tackled to the Ground by his Mother)
'CRASH''
Toon: (Turns Away) Ohhhhhh!
Owain: ('Groans in Pain') Yep......Definitely deserve that.....
Lissa: (Glares Down at her Son, Sitting on Top of Him) You gosh darn right you did! Who do think you are, running away from you own mom like that, huh!?
Owain: Look, it's not like I wanted to actively avoid you! You were running as fast as enraged bull, steak from his nostrils. You scared me.
Lissa: Yeah, well....(Starts Tearing Up) You scared ME the night you left us and the kingdom!! I was worried out of my mind about you for longest time now!...('Sniff') And now....('Sniff') I see you here after all this time.....('Sniff') Running from me?....('Sniff') Why? D-Did I do something wrong?
Owain: (Got His Back Up From the Ground, Devastated to See his Mother Crying In Front of Him) No. You have done nothing wrong at all, mother. I am the one who truly at fault here. I was a fool for leaving our home that night, I was a hopeless idiot for blindly helping out a cloaked figure that became an enemy down the usual journey, but worst of all, I am now a mere coward for fleeing away, knowing full well that I have broken your heart in two. (Lowers His Head Down in Shame) I'm deeply ashamed Bmand sorry for everything I've done.....and I do not blame you if you decide to despise until your is content.
Lissa: .........Owain. Look at me.
Owain: (Slowly But Surely Looks Back Up at his Mother) Y-Yes, mothe-
Lissa: (Gives Owain the Most Tight, Loving Hug She Could Give Him) You big dummy. When will you ever stop being so dramatic? ('Sigh') Who am I kidding? You're the most dramatic kid I know. Of course you'll never stop not that I mind as much as I used to at least.
Owain: Mother, I- (Suddenly Felt Lissa's Hands Cupping Both of His Face)
Lissa: But what we're NOT going to do is putting yourself down and making up a dumb lie.
Owain: Lie? What lie?
Lissa: That I would hate you. Cause I don't! I love you, Owain. ('Sniff') I love you so much it hurts sometimes, you know?
Lucina: (In the Background) Told you so!
Owain: (Comically Glares at his Cousin) Don't start, woman-
Lissa: (Moves Owain's Face Back to Her) Hey, hey. Ignore her. Lack back at me. We're not done here, mister.
Owain: Yes, mommy.
Lissa: (Simply Nodded) Good. (Grabs her Chin While Thinking) Now where was I.....Right! I love you so much it hurts.....And no son of my is a fool or an idiot! You're a human being that's bound to make the dumbest mistakes like the rest of us out here.
Owain: But what's important is that I learn from them for the foreseeable future?
Lissa: Yeah, exactly! See? You're plenty smart! Just like your dad! (Sighs While Hugging Owain Again) Look, just....Promise me you won't scare us like that anymore, okay? I know you're capable of handling yourself, but you're still precious to me. I don't wanna lose you anymore.....
Owain: (Hugs Lissa Back) That will never come to past. I won't ever bring you fear and distress and continue to do better from tis day forward, mother. That, I promise you for the rest of my life.
Lissa: (Puts out a Bit of a Pouty Look on her Face) ('Hmph') You better!~ Otherwise, I chase you to the ends of the Earth next time.
Owain: Oh come now. You can't be THAT fast.
Lissa: (Giggles a Bit) Oho you'd be surprised~ (Pulls Away For a Second to Stare at her Son Once More) Oh Owain......
Owain: Something's the matter, mother?
Lissa: ('Sigh') No, I'm fine. Just looking at how much you've grown is all. You big, drama queen baby, I love you!~ (Starts Kissing on Owain's Cheek)
Owain: (Chuckles Ticklishly) Mother!~ We still have people around. Settle down a bit, will ya?
Lissa: Yeeeeeeeeeeeah......No.
Owain: No? (Glares at Lissa) What do you mean "No"?
Lissa: (Hugs her Son Yet Again) I mean I'm not gonna stop coddle you yet! (Forms a Conniving Smirk on her Face) Consider this your punishment for making me worried sick for so long.
Owain: (Couldn't Believe What He's Hearing Right Now) You gotta be kidding me!!!
Lissa: Nooope!~ I'm your mother, Owain. (Starts Kissing Owain Cheeks Again) I ('Mwah') Never ('Mwah') Kid ('Mwah') Around!~ ('Mwaah')
Robin: (Already Has his Phone Out, Recording the Whole Thing While Everyone is Snickering Around Him) You're doing great, dear!~
Olivia: (Sighs Happily at the Scene While Hugging Chrom's Arm) I just love a happy reunion, dear~
Chrom: (Trying his Hatdes Not to Let Out a Snicker While Taking Some Pictures Himself) You and be both, Oliva. Keep it up, Lissa!
Lissa: Will do, Chrom!~ (Continues Kissing Owain)
Owain: (Glares at Robin) F-Father! UNCLE! AUNTIE OLIVIA! Do not encourage her shenanigans! And what are you doing with those phone devices of yours!?
Robin: Oh don't mind us!~ (Forms a Playful Smirk on his Face) Just capturing this beautiful moment is all.
Owain: Nothing about this is beautiful! It's embarrassing!!
Lucina: (Shrugs While Smirking) Gotta embrace the embarrassment sometimes, cousin~
Gerome: You can manage.
Owain: Like hell I can! This is ridiculous! I have things do to, a lovely girlfriend to spend time with-
Lissa: ('GASPS') You got yourself a GIRLFRIEND you say!?~
Owain: (Eyes Widened in Horror) Why did I say that out loud?
Lissa: (Points at Zelda) Hey, you! In that nice looking dress!
Zelda: (Immediately Gives Lissa Her Attention) Y-Yes?
Lissa: You're Owain's girlfriend?
Zelda: (Happily (And Shyly) Nodded) Yep! Princess Zelda, ma'am. (Sticks Her Habd Out to Lissa) Pleased to meet you.
Lissa: (Happily Shakes Zelda's Hand) Likewise, dear!~ My name is Lissa Yliston, Owain's proud, loving mom!~
Zelda: (Giggles Softly) I can tell!~ You've raised such a good boy, ma'am.
Lissa: Thank you!~ I did my very best. (Starts Snuggling Up on Owain) He's the most goodest, trouble-making boy ever!~ Yes you are!~
Zelda: Yes he is!~
Owain: (Pouts at hus Girlfriend) Zelda!!
Zelda: (Smiles Apologetically at Owain) Sorry!~ Force of habit!.....It's true though. You are a good boy.
Owain: Good. MAN!- ('Groans in Annoyance and Embarrassment') I swear, this can't get any worse from here......
?????: Hey, Yliston!
Owain: (Eye's Widened in Horror Again) Oh no.
Owain turns to see Dark Pit, his girlfriends, some of the members of the Smash Family, watching him and his mother from the mansion's porch.
Dark Pit: (Forms a Shit Eating Grin) Enjoying your quality time with your mom over there?
Kyoko: (Clasps her Hands Together in Awe) So cute and wholesome~
Misako: (Taking Pictures With a Smirk on her Face) Perfect for blackmail purposes~
Owain: ('Gaspdls') You will do NO such th-
Lissa: (Happily Waves Hello to Everyone) HI, everyone!~ I'm Lissa Yliston, Owain's mother, whom I love oh so very much!~ (Playfully Pulls Owain's Cheek) Yes, I do!~
The Moms: AWWWWWW!~
Dark Pit/Everyone Else: (Burst Out Laughing)
Owain: (Sighs While Closing his Eyes) Lady Palutena, if you ever hear this, I must ask: Please.....please get me out of this catastrophe of a day.....That's all I ask.
Palutena: (Standing on the Other Side of the Porch) Hear you loud and clear, Owain, no can do!~
Owain: (Eyes Widened at the Goddess Mom) WHAT!? Why!?
Palutena: Cause this is a very sweet moment and I don't wanna ruin it.
Owain: N-Nothing about this is a sweet at all! An inferno hellish nightmare is more like it....
Palutena: (Forms a Motherly Glare) What was that?
Owain: (Easily Intimidated by the Goddess' Glare)Nothing!
Palutena: (Sighs While Giving Owain a Reassuring Smile) Just let her have this one, okay? I'm sure she'll stop eventually.
Owain: I highly doubt that. ('Sighs in Defeat') But very well then......The things I do for love and compassion.
And that folks, was the day Lissa and Olivia became the newest members of the Certified Mom Squad.

Could you do a little fic with Frederick x F!Robin 🥺? Pretty please 👉👈? Maybe one where Freddy gets really really sick and Robin is just scared because like, you know, she loves him so much, and what can you do when your stuck on a military campaign in the middle of nowhere and your husbands near dead with fever
(I have been working on this story for the last few months...enjoy 18 pages of angst and fluff and sniffling Freddybear ;;; U ;;; )
Frederick did not get sick. His immune system was impeccably strong; practically impenetrable to any disease or virus that would seek to bring him down.
You believed Lissa’s fervent stories about how Frederick would clear a cold with a single sneeze; seeing how your husband took such meticulous care of his help suggested he was as healthy as the myths foretold.
You had only been married a short while; a little over six months, following the few months courtship after you were found.
So it was very new; but it was also the only life you knew. Frederick had quickly gone from being a distrusting nuisance to the one constant in your life.
He was always there with a smile, a kiss or a squeeze of your hand. His patience was unending, and his compassion for your struggles with amnesia was unwavering. There was no normal without Frederick by your side.
But when the journey to Ferox led to a blizzard on top of a blizzard, it was only natural that not everyone in the encampment could weather the cold.
Vaike caught a bad flu first; of course he did, what with insisting on wearing as little warm clothing as possible to show off his glorious body.
Miriel would chastise him as she treated him, though there was very little one could do to sotp help the body heal from natural illness.
Injuries? Sure. Sickness caused by your own stupidity? Not so much.
Chrom quickly set the Shepherds to work to try and stop the sickness from spreading, but the measures he was taking weren’t good enough. There was still a bit of a journey to the nearest village, before reaching the capital city.
For now, everyone was to shelter in place and try their very best to get the fires burning high and hot. With hearty stew prepared for dinner and thick blankets distributed to the soldiers, it seemed like survival from the cold would be successful.
The darkness had made it difficult to tell just what time it is, but you were just exhausted. The final evening counsel had concluded, and you hurried back to the tent. Frederick assured you he’d follow once he finished checking over each of the fires in camp..
A task which normally took about half an hour, seemed to be taking much longer. You busied yourself with insulating the tent (as he carefully taught you), and had a small orb of fire floating safely in the center of the tent.
It was like a personal haven of heat…and you didn’t want to leave it.
At least, not until the tent flap opened, letting in a howl of cold air.
“Frederick, quickly!” You gasped, motioning for him to latch it shut. “It’ll take ages to reheat the tent!!”
“Forgive me, my dear,” Frederick’s voice was trembling as he shivered despite himself. “I am feeling slightly more tired than I realized.”
“You? Tired? Impossible.” You laughed some, but regarded him just the same, eyebrows raised. “You don’t think it’s the weather, do you? Neither of us are really built to withstand freezing temperatures like this…maybe it’s having an impact on your health.”
“My health is fine, as always.” He dismissed the very thought as he loosened the straps of his armor. “I am simply tired from making sure our campfires will last the night. Not all of us know how to do this warming enchantment, after all.”
“If it didn’t cost so much mana, I would cast it for everyone’s tents.” You agreed, rising to help him place the armor on its stand.
“We do need you to preserve as much as possible.” He agreed, “But I suppose I can allow it for our personal tent…for now.”
“Even the strict Lieutenant Frederick deserves to indulge every now and then.” You grinned, passing him his nightshirt before returning to the bedding.
“I suppose it is an indulgence, but the warmth is quite welcome…Ferox feels particularly biting this time of year.”
“Hmm. Cordelia said it’s actually much milder than usual. Which is saying something, given it feels like the temperature’s in the negatives.” You said with a shiver, but Frederick did not seem to notice.
Slowly, Frederick finished his nighttime routine and settled into bed with you, wishing you goodnight with a kiss. But something was…off. Your brow furrowed, making a small noise when your lips parted.
“Darling? You’re…rather warm. Do you feel all right?”
Frederick took a moment to process your words, but seemed unaffected. “I am sure it is only the tent. Come morning I’m sure my body temperature will drop the second we step outside. We should…rest.”
Frederick was asleep in the span of a few breaths. You shook your head, subconsciously noting that his body heat seemed to rise as you followed into slumber.
With a yawn and a stretch, you faced the next morning well-rested and plenty warm. That heating spell was a true work of art; you made a note to figure out methods to expand it to benefit all of the Shepherds.
The dim light seeping into the tent suggested it was just after dawn; time to get ready to face the day. But when you shifted to get up, something solid touched your back on the bedroll.
You turned to find Frederick still asleep beside you.
“What in the name of- Frederick? My love?” You reached for his face, feeling heat simmer beneath your fingertips. Too much heat.
“Frederick.” You called him again, a little firmer, and pushed on his shoulder. His breath was shallower, and he wasn’t responding to you.
“Freddybear, it’s past time to get up. You’re not going to have time to set all the fires!” You pressed, and that seemed to do the trick.
Frederick groaned, squeezing his eyes before they slowly fluttered open. “Mmnh…Robin…?”
“Good morning, sleepyhead. You’re quite late for your morning tasks. Shall I take care of them so you can rest?” If he was feeling unwell enough to sleep through the first hour of his day, then…
“That’s all right, Robin. I do appreciate the offer.” He dismissed you, rising slowly from his back and starting to stand.
There was a mild dizziness in his steps, as though disoriented from waking up. It had you on your feet behind him, placing a steadying hand to the small of his back.
“My dear, I don’t think you should do anything today. You’re looking a bit unwell, and the last thing I want is-”
“Nonsense. I have never once gotten ill; I am in peak condition, as always.”
“Then why are your eyes so glassy? And why are you struggling to keep your balance?”
“My oversleeping has simply left me disoriented.” He shook his head, “I know my body, Robin. If there is something wrong, I will not ignore it.”
“Unless something more important than your health happens, first.” You sighed, to which Frederick averted his gaze. Guilty as charged. “I know you, Frederick. You have a track record nearly as long as my own that shows you’d rather die than forget to polish Chrom’s sword for the fifth time.”
“I suppose that is true, but you forget that I have had a significant change in my personal life that impacts those odds.”
“And what might that be?” Your hands were on your hips, unconvinced. Frederick smiled softly, closing the distance between you to run handsome fingers along the side of your face.
“I recently married a very caring, attentive woman, whose opinion I value deeply.”
It was your turn to avert your gaze. “Flattery won’t get you anywhere, Lieutenant.”
“Is it flattery if I spoke earnestly? I can assure you, I could not possibly exaggerate my feelings for you.”
“All right, all right. You’ve made your point.” You huffed, brushing his hand away (gently) so as to preserve the remainder of your resolve. “Just…please pay attention to your health. It’s already brutal outside, and if you’re feeling ill, I don’t want you to hurt yourself. You’re all I’ve got.”
“I understand.” He nodded, though he was unable to keep the smile from his lips. He brushed past you one final time, kissing the top of your head while he went.
Your gaze lingered on him even after the tent flap fell closed again. He was pushing himself too hard, and it was clear he wasn’t well. But you decided to trust Frederick; after all, he trusted you in spite of your mysterious origins.
He was all you really knew, now. Frederick’s routine was the one constant, in the throes ofkk battle and the constantly shifting tactics and politics that came with it.
He was always the same. Always performing his duties down to the exact second on his schedule. It reassured you; grounded you.
There was no reason to doubt him.
Glancing at the timepiece he kept in his trunk, it would be a few hours before breakfast. You’d check in on him then.
Surely, he’d be all right to work for a few hours.Frederick was not, in fact, fine to work a few hours.
When you reconnected in the mess tent, you found he had already fetched both your portions, but his was noticeably smaller than yours.
“Freddybear…aren’t you hungry? You’ve been working since dawn.” You noted carefully, sitting beside your husband.
He stared into the bowl, his brow furrowed. “I am not particularly hungry this morning. Perhaps I simply have not put in as much effort today as I usually do.”
You purse your lips, sharing some of your breakfast with him to even the portions out a little more.
“You’re going to need the energy if you insist on doing your daily duties in that heavy set of armor. Although, you could always slow down and rest for the day, just in case…”
“Thank you for worrying about me, but I can assure you I’m fine.” He replied gently, and returned the portion you shared with him into your bowl. “I know your day will be filled with meetings; you’re going to need the strength to withstand all those political battles.”
“That is a good point.” You nodded, “But at last eat one extra bite. For me?”
He exhaled softly, allowing you to rgift him one spoonful of your meal.
“Very well.”
“Thank you, dear.” You grinned, pecking his cheek. “Now let’s eat before our duties drag us away.”
And drag you away, they did; you were plotting out your next steps, knowing exactly where to go in order to avoid Plegian fire and reach Ferox within a reasonable amount of time. The bitter cold would provide more obstacles the longer you waited to take up camp and move it closer to the capital.
The kingdom itself had its share of bandits and vagabonds, which would no doubt become a headache for the Shepherds during the journey northward.
Coupled with the snowfall only growing icier and heavier through the next several days, and you had yourselves a proper race against the clock.
“We’ve already strained the medical tent with the number of soldiers who’ve fallen ill in the cold.” Stahl reported, “Lady Maribelle and Princess Lissa have requested a number of medical supplies, as well as any blankets and winter wear that can be spared.”
“We’re already running low on all of that, as it is…where would we be able to find more?”
“There’s a village between here and Ferox…could we make it there before we get to Ferox, so we can restock and rest?” You wondered, narrowing your eyes at the map.
The faint clanging of sparring reverberated in the still air as the council contemplated the next move. A good reminder that there would need to be a weapons restock in the near future as well.
“Indeed there is; but it would also force us to rework the path to Ferox, as well. It may add an additional two days to our journey when we depart.” Miriel explained, illustrating the wide curve the army would have to take if they went on this detour.
A particularly strong strike of steel hit across camp, followed by an exclamation among the soldiers. Someone must have won that duel handily. The sounds of mock battle resumed in the background.
“It would be worth it, in order to keep ourselves in top condition. I don’t want to risk lives because we were fighting hungry or sick. Chrom, what do you think?” You turned to the prince, who was listening carefully to the deliberations.
The clanging outside stopped suddenly. More exclamations.
“While time is indeed of the essence, I feel that Robin’s plan may be better in the long term. We should start making preparations to take up the camp and head north while it is still early in the-”
“Lord Chrom!!”
Ricken suddenly burst into the tent, the frost across his clothes contrasted sharply with the bright red of his face.
“Ricken? What’s-”
“The Lieutenant collapsed!!”
In a breath the whole of the tent was emptied, sprinting to the clamoring crowd that wasw growing at the training grounds. You led the charge, heart thundering faster than your feet could carry you.
Frederick collapsed. Frederick collapsed?
The words were foreign in your brain; you couldn’t make sense of it. The faint glow of healing staves could be seen in the snow. You pushed your way through the rumbling soldiers, confused and concerned.
Deep in the snow, Frederick laid off the side of the field. Maribelle and Lissa were frantically trying to heal him. He was unconscious.
“Frederick-” You reached his side before Chrom could, sliding to your knees beside him. His face was pale, in spite of being inches deep in the snow and ice. “What’s wrong with him?”
“He just dropped in the middle of a fight. I thought he may have been struck, but there aren’t any wounds.” Maribelle explained, words clipped and anxious.
You tore the glove from your hand, touching his face. Instantly you withdrew your fingers, a rush of air leaving you.
“He’s hot.” The staves paused at your statement, both the women staring at you. “H-his skin is really, really warm.”
“But his face is…” Lissa trailed off, brows furrowing. “Wait. Is he-?”
“Surely not.” The pair exchanged a glance. You were moments from shaking someone’s shoulders.
“What’s wrong with him??”
“He’s…he’s fallen ill.”
Pneumonia. A terrible case of it, at that. You were supposed to be relieved that he wasn’t injured; that this was something healed with plenty of herbs, medicines and rest.
But Frederick didn’t get sick.
You remembered the legends of Shepherds seeing Frederick sneeze and instantly cure whatever cold he might have had. Pneumonia was much more severe than a cold, but…surely it couldn’t have debilitated him so badly.
The healing tent was a mess of anxiety behind you, which was hard to ignore considering you were already deeply upset.
“You should not be here, Robin. If the type of pneumonia he contracted is contagious, you may fall ill as well.”
Frederick didn’t react to the voices above him; he was unconscious. The breaths trembled in his lungs, feverishly turning his head side to side on the pillow. Whatever was going on inside of him was tumultuous.
“I understand, but…I cannot leave him when he’s like this.” Your response was given without ever taking your eyes off him.
It was difficult to sit and watch, but the healers were kind enough to allow you to stay by his side while they worked around you. They had drawn his blood, listened to his heartbeat and his breathing, and were checking his fever every hour.
“H-he’ll be okay, right?” You heard Lissa ask from the end of the bed. She was tasked with healing him as well, but given how shaky her hands were, she needed to gather herself. Chrom put a comforting arm around her, but his expression remained grave.
“I’m sure he’ll recover. This may be a difficult fight, but it’s Frederick. I’ve never seen him sick longer than a day.”
“I’ll hold you to that.” Lissa managed a small smile, but she was looking about as pale as your husband currently did. The thought alone made your stomach flip.
“Is there anything that we can do?” You asked Maribelle, “I…I want to stay with him, but I don’t want to be useless.”
“Perhaps fetching some food for yourselves and him will be good. I think all of you could use some fresh air. See if Stahl has the vegetable broth that I requested.”
The three of you left the tent, the biting air a bitter reminder of your current reality. It drew your feet to a stop. Maybe…maybe you shouldn’t leave his side just yet.
“Robin?”
Chrom touched your upper arm. It was difficult to find the words.
“Are you all right?”
“I…don’t know. I just don’t feel like it’s a good idea to leave him.” You glanced back at the tent, “I don’t like the idea of going somewhere and he’s not there with me.”
Chrom motioned for Lissa to go ahead, a little more concerned with his friend folding into herself.
“I’m sorry, Robin. If I realized he was getting sick, I would have ordered him to rest before it got like this. I know how hard he pushes himself.”
“I tried to convince him to slow down - more than once - but he insisted he was fine, and he pushed forward anyways. I believed him when he said he’d take care of himself, but now he’s… I’m just so worried.”
“We all are. This is uncharted territory.” Chrom agreed, squeezing your shoulder. “I can’t imagine how it must feel for you. You’ve been stuck to Frederick like glue almost since we found you in that field.”
You nodded, lips pursed. It wouldn’t do any good to speak out loud your deeper fears.
“He’s…my world.” You admitted quietly, frown deepening. “I don’t think I should leave him.”
“Even if it’s on the healer’s orders?”
“You can bring me back some food too, can’t you?”
Chrom chuckled. “Of course. We’ll be back as soon as we can.”
And so you returned to the tent, feeling a sense of relief that you wouldn’t be leaving Frederick behind for any longer. Maribelle quirked an eyebrow, but did not press any questions as to why you had taken a break that wasn’t longer than a few minutes.
You quietly returned to your seat beside Frederick, whose expression remained contorted in discomfort.
He had turned away from your touch, jerking his head when cool fingers brushed against his cheek. His eyes remained closed; was he having a nightmare?
“I’m here, Freddybear.” You whispered, “I’m sure you can’t hear me, but…I’m not going anywhere ‘til you’re better. Got it?”
You squeezed his hand, resting your head on your other arm while you watched his fitful rest. It wouldn’t be long before the royals returned with food for yourself and your husband, though his was more flavored water than anything else.
Maribelle had moved to take care of his meal, but you were quick to volunteer. Something about letting others take over a task that was clearly meant for you to do felt wrong.
Though to the others, it was a symptom of more worrisome fears.By the time the next evening rolled in, Frederick’s condition grew worse.
The past twenty-four hours saw him in and out of a feverish attempt at consciousness. At one point, your name had passed his lips, but th.
Chrom sent their best horsemen to the village north, requesting clerics who would surely be able to turn his fever around with their expertise.
You were anxiously watching the tent flaps, hoping Chrom would return with an army of Feroxi healers at any second.
“Just hold on a little longer, my love.” You whispered, and held his hand tightly between both of yours. “Help will be here soon. Then you’ll be right as rain, and everything’ll go back to normal. Like nothing was ever wrong.”
His response was little more than a shuddering breath, his brow drawn tight against the pounding ache in his head. You kissed his knuckles, trying so hard to keep your wits.
He was your world. He was all that you knew, and neither you nor any of his close friends had ever known him to fall so terribly ill. What was worse, of course, was the terrible reality that no one could think of what might happen next.
When the clerics finally arrived, Frederick’s condition had already worsened. The shallow breathing was replaced with fits of hard, wet coughs. It seemed to pull him from whatever troubled excuse for rest he’d been getting before.
The coughing sounded heavy, as though his lungs were rattling with every sharp repetition. Your hand was on his back the instant he awoke, doubling over almost as suddenly as his eyes had opened.
“Frederick!” Your concern was quickly overwhelmed by the trio of clerics that were shepherded in by the prince. Chrom looked between you and Frederick, a small flash of relief in his eyes quickly overshadowed with worry.
“He's awake- that’s a good sign, isn’t it?” He commented as he came to your side, a reassuring hand on your shoulder.
“His fever is severe.” The first cleric spoke, already having placed the back of his hand to Frederick’s forehead.
His eyes were glassy; you worried he didn’t know what was going on. Chrom’s fingers twitched.
“It can be brought back down though, can’t it?”
“It will be difficult, milord. Not only that, but it sounds as though the infection has spread deep into his lungs. The coughing should not be this heavy after two days of rest.”
“What can we do?” You asked, deciding to ignore the crack in your voice.
“We will need cold compresses, a bowl of cold water, and an additional bowl of packed snow.” The third cleric instructed, addressing the healer as she joined the growing group. “Could you show us where the medicinal herbs are, Lady Maribelle?”
“Of course. Though I must inform you that I’ve tried every combination I can think of to address the ailment.”
“We have brought our own supply of herbs local to Ferox, though we assumed you would have most of the base roots and herbs we will need to combine them with.”
“That would be correct.” Maribelle’s chin lifted, clearly proud of herself for maintaining the stock. She nodded to you, “Not to worry, Robin. We’ll have him back to normal in no time, now that we’ve got some proper help.”
You turned your attention back to Frederick, whose expression was a mixture of exhaustion, pain and confusion.
“Dearest?” You touched his cheek, the flushed red and sharp heat nearly catching you off guard. “Frederick, darling, did you hear them?”
A non-committal noise was about the best he could do before another coughing fit took hold. Your hand left his face to support his back again, a vain attempt at helping him.
“Milady,” One of the clerics addressed you, “It will be more efficient for us to work if we are allowed to occupy the whole space. I’m afraid we must ask you to leave.”
You glanced back at your husband, chewing the inside of your cheek. “But you will keep me informed if anything changes, yes?”
“You will be the first to know. Thank you for your cooperation.” They guided you out, Chrom not far behind. He seemed a little more at ease than you did, though you couldn’t imagine why.
“They sure know what they’re doing, don’t they? They’re not wasting a second.” Chrom said, sealing the tent behind you. “I only wish we were able to return with help sooner; I’ve never seen him in such dire straits.”
“But he will be all right?” Your response was shaky enough to be more of a question than a statement of fact. Chrom could hear it in your voice; you were well beyond anxious.
“Yes- yes, of course he’ll be all right! Frederick’s got the fortitude and the stubborness of an ox. He’s not going to let something like this take him down.”
“Thank you, Chrom.” Your whisper was met with a kind smile, and an elbow offered.
“May I escort you back to your tent?”
When he left you to your own devices, there was little else to distract yourself from the worrying besides scribbling nonsense on parchment.
It did at least serve to occupy your thoughts for an hour, though it was far from productive.
A few maps were drawn that would no doubt have to be re-worked, some personal notes that you couldn’t seem to read the words you were writing…
With a sharp sigh, you pushed away from your desk, opting to do some tidying around the immaculate tent instead. Something to keep your mind from worrying. Anything to stop fretting for a single second.
“Lady Robin?”
Perhaps not.
You unlatched the tent flap to find one of the village clerics standing in the whipping ice and wind. His expression was more grim than the weather.
“It is about your husband’s condition.”The pair of you returned to the healing tent within minutes of his status report. Frederick’s fever wasn’t breaking.
His condition hadn’t improved even after the intensive care he’d been receiving for the last hour straight. Even in the state he was in, with the efforts the clerics had already put in, his fever should have reduced by at least half a degree.
Instead, the rate he was going suggested he would not make it through the night if nothing changed.
It sucked the air from your lungs.
Returning to Frederick’s side didn’t give any comfort. You were at his bedside, this time determined not to leave him until you knew he was okay. His hand was tightly grasped between both of yours, feeling the heat that seared through his fingertips. His skin was so pale, and his breathing was labored.
“I am sorry, Lady Robin. We have informed the Exalt and his sister, but have instructed them to stay away from the tent so that we can continue to monitor him with little distraction. But given you are his spouse, I thought you should be the only exception.”
“Please…” The sound of your voice was foreign in your ears. When had it become so broken? Your fingers tightened around his hand, your knuckles white. “Please, help him.”
“My lady, we will do all we can, but there is little else-”
“There h-has to be something.” You hissed, fighting so hard not to let the dam break. “I can’t lose him. Not like this, he- I-I don’t have anyone else.”
The cleric’s lips drew into a thin line; this was the fearless Ylissean tactician, bearing her soul to a complete stranger. A man who you saw as holding his life in his hands.
“We will do what we can.” He repeated, gentler. “I do not wish to frighten you., but it is important that you know…and that you may need to prepare for the worst.”
There was little in the way of a response. Instead the cleric moved away, closing the fabric that provided some privacy in the tent so that you could be alone with him for a little while.
Silence filled the space, your thundering heart overwhelmed by the howling winds pounding the canvas with ice and snow. The tent was warm, at least, but it did not stop the shivers running up and down your spine. Though the trembling had a different source.
“Frederick…” Your forehead fell on his shoulder, a grimace twisting your lips. “Frederick, please- don’t do this. I need you. I need you to get through this, I-”
A sob caught in your throat, desperate and raw.
“Y-you’re everything to me, you know that? Y-you’ve been there since the first day…you’re in my very first memories since I woke up in that damn field. And you are my one constant…my one truth. I don’t…”
You swallowed thickly, pulling back to gaze upon his face. He looked so pained.
“I don’t know how to live without you.”
You drew his hand up to your lips, kissing his knuckles once, twice, three times as hot tears overflowed.
“Please, love…do not go where I cannot follow.”
Soft whimpers were somehow able to escape, the fragile prayers an echo in your heart. The silence was deafening, interrupted only by the muted cries of the knight lieutenant’s beloved.
There was nothing else to do but wait.
Agonize…and wait.
The first thing that registered in your mind when you awoke in the quiet of morning…was that your back ached terribly.
You groaned, recognizing that you were not asleep in your cot, but had slumped over on a less than comfortable stool. Frederick would surely scold you for falling asleep in such a way- it was simply terrible for your physical health to slump over on your seat for hours like that.
His name flitting through your thoughts was able to pull you from the drowse. The reason you were sitting at all was because you were in the healing tent. Watching over your husband.
“Frederick-” Your whisper was hoarse and a crackled attempt at speaking. Blearily you searched for his face in the darkness.
It was far too dark- was it even really morning? You fumbled with a small spell tag, hastily casting a small Ember spell.
An infant flame flickered to life in your palm, allowing your eyes to focus on your prize.
The lieutenant was still asleep. Your jaw clenched, feeling a lance of fear in your heart; he was asleep, wasn’t he?
Shaking fingers reached for his face, finding heat beneath your touch.
No…not heat. Warmth.
He was warm.
“Frederick…! Your fever-” You rose abruptly from your seat, pressing your ear to his chest to confirm your hopes. His heartbeat was still there.
Breath filled his lungs.
He made it through the night.
“Oh-- oh, the healers-!” You burst from the enclosed space, extinguishing the ember as you called for the clerics’ attention. There were two still shuffling about in the early morning, startled by the noisy tactician.
“My lady-?”
“His fever broke-!” You blurted out, pointing lamely back to where your husband slept. “H-he is still alive!”
It was all you could do to follow after the pair, who hurriedly went to confirm your exclamation. One took up Frederick’s hand, pressing his wrist to feel for his pulse. The other touched his forehead, confirming he was indeed no longer boiling.
“He has made it through the night.” They declared, relief passing over the three of you. It was impossible to contain your joy, all but collapsing beside him and sobbing with immense joy.
You clung to his hand, pressing as many kisses as you could while the healers politely left to procure more medicine to treat him once he woke.
Though you could care less if they stayed or went- Frederick was alive!
He would remain asleep for a few hours more, despite all the ruckus around him. Chrom and Lissa were promptly informed of the state of him, and you were soon joined by two tearful royals who crammed into the little space beside you.
So that, when Frederick finally did open his eyes again, he found himself surrounded by three blurry, smiling, ridiculous figures.
“Frederick?” Lissa spoke up first, blue eyes shining bright with hopefulness. “Can you hear me? You feeling any better?”
A soft noise was just about the only thing he could manage, brow furrowed in confusion as he tried to gather his bearings.
He wasn’t exactly sure what was going on, only that he didn’t exactly feel fantastic.
However, he could definitively say he felt better now than he did a while ago. And judging by the worried expressions that were surrounding him as his vision focused, he wasn’t the only one who thought that.
“Darling,” You called to him softly, squeezing his hand. “Do you need anything? Should I get you some water, or. Something to eat?”
He squeezed your hand back, albeit weakly. “Mmn…water…”
“O-of course! Just a moment.” You looked back to Chrom and Lissa, light in your gaze for the first time in days. As if you were saying “Hear that? He wants to drink something!” with your face.
“Why don’t you stay here while we go get him some water, instead? You’ve suffered long enough at his side; you deserve some joy, instead.” Chrom suggested, and took his sister’s hand.
Frederick watched them leave with sleepy confusion, turning his attention back to you.
“You…were suffering…?”
“Freddybear, you were really, really sick. It was pneumonia.” You explained, “One minute you seemed fine, and the next you collapsed during training. You were barely conscious, a-and the fever you had almost killed you.”
A grim understanding crossed his face, seeming to wake him up a little more. “I see…I didn’t realize…”
“I’m sure you didn’t think it was as bad as it was, but…the clerics had informed me you may not have made it through the night.” The red around your eyes betrayed the softness in your tone. You reached your breaking point.
Your husband’s hand shifted around yours, threading his fingers between your own as close as possible.
“I had a dream…you were crying.” He breathed, “Praying.”
With a trembling lip, you shook your head, looking away in a feeble attempt to withhold the tears from escaping.
“Did you say I’m…your one…your one constant?”
With a shaky sigh, you nodded, squeezing his fingers again. “I did, because you are. I rely on you more than anyone else, Freddybear. You’re the one person I can always count on to…to be there. More than anybody. That’s…why I w-was so upset.”
“I didn’t know,” He coughed much drier and softer than before. You made a move to help him, but he shook his head, opting instead to maintain his strengthening grip on your hand.
“I didn’t know you felt so strongly about me.”
You weren’t sure if that was a sob or a laugh that you barked out, but it was there all the same. “Frederick, of course I feel that way about you- I married you! Did you doubt my love wouldn’t extend to trusting you, too?”
‘T-that is not what I meant. It seems my thoughts are still…a bit muddled.” He shook his head, looking troubled. “ I mean that…I did not know you relied on my presence so much.”
“It’s only natural, isn’t it?” You insisted quietly, leaning down so that your head rested on the thin pillow inches from him. He stared into your eyes, his still-blurred vision focusing enough to show the sorrow in your eyes. “I can’t recall what life was like before the valley. And you’ve been there since day one, for the good and bad.”
“You said that to me, too. I remember.” His whisper was met with a bashful smile, and your fingers gingerly brushing along his cheek. “So it really wasn’t a dream. I…I am so sorry, Robin. I frightened you so…”
You blinked rapidly, and shook your head. “You didn’t know it would end up this badly. All I can ask is that in the future, y-you take better care of yourself. I don’t know I can survive another situation like this”
“I will.” He promised, leaning into your touch with a happy sigh. “Thank you…for looking after me. It makes me feel even more grateful that you are my wife; to think you would stay so loyally at my side, despite my own foolishness.”
“I am a pretty wonderful wife, aren’t I?” You mused, allowing the tension to ease with a spot of humor and some well deserved laughter. You kissed Frederick’s forehead, tenderly brushing the hair from his brow. “I will go and find Maribelle, so we can discuss what your recovery will look like from here. And I’m sure Chrom and Lissa have already gotten that water by now.”
Frederick could not bear to take his eyes off you, watching as you rose from your place beside him (with one more kiss for good measure), to retrieve the listed parties.
It filled his exhausted heart with such warmth and joy, to know that you loved him so deeply. That you needed him so terribly.
If he was honest with himself, he knew it would be the exact same nightmares and fears running around in his mind that you had to struggle through. Sinking back into the cot, he stared up at the ceiling, determined to prevent such a horrific experience from ever being repeated.
And, while he was at it, thinking of the perfect way to woo his dear wife’s heart back. Thankfully it would not be difficult to achieve.

Solstice (F!Robin X Chrom)
Hello everyone, and happy @nagamas! I would like to wish a very special holiday season to my recipient, settphels, over on X. May you have a healthy 2024, and I hope you enjoy my work!
Requests are open. The story will continue under the cut.
“Lissa! Slow down!” Robin begged as the young princess dragged her through the snow.
“I wouldn’t have to go this fast if you hadn’t taken so long to get ready! Honestly, Robin, I’m surprised the sun hasn’t melted all the snow yet!”
It was the first day of the cold season that the snow stopped falling in Ferox, leaving the ground covered in a soft, clean sheet of white powder. Regardless, the tactician tugged her coat tighter to her chest with her free hand. The Feroxian cold chilled her to the bone; an idea solidified in the fact that this was the first winter she could remember.
Robin liked to think she came from somewhere nice and warm.
The women slowed to a stop a few yards from the large estate that Khan Flavia so graciously provided her champions. Frederick and Chrom were probably inside, writing up reports on their progress and deciding how next to move the Shepherds. Robin originally intended to join them, but Lissa talked her out into the snow before she even knew what was happening.
“Remind me why we’re standing out here, Lissa?” she shivered. “It’s freezing!”
“I told you, we have to make a snowman! Normally, Em would be here to help me, but since she couldn’t come with us, you get to be my assistant today,” Lissa smiled.
“A snowman…? But I don’t know how - I didn’t bring a tome with me or anything,” Robin frowned, glancing back at the estate.
The youngest princess of Ylisse giggled, “You don’t need magic, silly. I can’t believe you don’t know how to make a snowman.”
“Rubbing it in isn’t helping,” Robin muttered sheepishly.
“Here, watch.”
The blonde bent toward the snow, picking up a handful of powder and shaping it into a ball between her gloved hands.
“The trick is to apply a bit of pressure so the snow sticks together and forms a sphere. Then,” she added, setting the snowball down as she lowered herself to the ground, “you’ll keep patting more into it until it grows into a giant snowball.”
Robin watched silently, her breath forming clouds in the air as Lissa used her arms and hands to pull snow toward her. Soft crunching sounds accompanied her light taps on her creation as the original sphere tripled in size.
The princess paused, looking up as if to gauge Robin’s understanding. Or maybe just to see if she was paying attention - Robin didn’t know Lissa well enough to tell just yet.
“Okay, now it’s your turn.”
So the woman with hair the color of the winter around them knelt to the ground, scooping nearby snow into her gloves before pushing her hands together.
Upon opening her hands, flakes of white fell between her fingers and out of her palm.
Robin pursed her lips, determined to give it another try as she brushed off her hands and picked up more snow. This time, she added more pressure and held slightly less in her hand.
The result presented itself as a small, almond-shaped pile. It looked fragile even before Robin set it down, the “snowball” cleaving in half upon impact with the soft layer blanketing the grass.
A stifled snicker came from Lissa’s direction while the tactician huffed. How could anyone stick the snow together when it just brushes against the other flakes? Whenever she got enough snow onto the ball, it just crumbled to dust.
The fifth time she failed to make the snow stick together long enough, Robin simply stretched her neck to the sky and closed her eyes.
Meanwhile, Lissa appeared happy to show her support in the way she rolled on the icy ground, overtaken by a fit of giggles.
“Ah, yes. I’m glad you find my failure funny,” Robin glared, turning her head back to her companion.
“I- I’m-!” the girl gasped, “Ha! You can’t even-!
“What are you two doing out here?”
Chrom’s footfalls crunched loudly in the snow as he approached, eyeing the areas where the snow no longer looked even.
“Oh my goodness! Chrom!” Lissa managed. Her smile still went from ear to ear. “You have to see-! Robin can’t even make a snowball…”
The woman in question felt her ears going pink as blood rushed to her face, “Well I’m sorry I’ve never done this before! I don’t even really understand what it is that we’re doing!”
The prince of Ylisse simply sighed before taking a seat in the cold next to Robin.
“Don’t be so mean, Lissa. You should have been helping her instead of laughing.”
“Hmph. We were only having fun - you don’t have to lecture me.”
“Really?” Chrom teased, “What do you think Em would say?”
“Sh-she doesn’t have to know!”
He laughed, turning back to the newest Shepherd before picking up some snow of his own.
“Here, this way is easier,” his hand and palms were cupped closed, interlocking perfectly. “The way Lissa likes to do it can be a bit harder since she keeps her fingers splayed open - try keeping them close together.”
“Wow, you don’t even have gloves on. Aren’t you cold?”
The blue-haired prince shook his head, “I just came from inside, so I’m not too cold yet. Besides, using the heat from my palms tends to make it easier to make snowballs.”
“Lucky you.”
“You certainly seem like you wish you were inside,” Chrom chuckled. “You look so unacclimated.”
Robin chose to lightly ignore him, instead focusing on copying his movements exactly as she watched them performed earlier. After applying what she deemed an appropriate amount of pressure, she tilted her hand open…
…only to watch it crumble again.
Her result did not improve the next two times she tried.
Her fourth attempt for Chrom almost yielded a snowball; save for a few light angles here and there, the shape formed a ball well enough.
“There you go,” he encouraged.
Her breathing grew shallow as she turned her palm upright, removing her other hand to let it stand on its own.
Of course, Robin should have known not to expect much as she watched it split in three upon supporting its own weight in her hand.
“Agh-! Are you kidding me? I’m completely hopeless at this.”
A short exhale came from Chrom’s nose. Robin looked up quickly enough to see him fighting a smile before he cleared his throat.
“Here, let me help you.”
Easily, Chrom took one of her hands into his own. The tactician’s palm faced the sky as the prince used his other hand to lift a small pile of snow. Guiding her hand to his other one, he pressed the snow between their palms with much more force than Robin had been using to make her snowballs.
Transfixed, she watched Chrom’s hands envelope her own as the snow grew more firm upon her palm. He rotated her palm once more until it faced the sky again. Finally, he lifted his hands away and released her glove.
A perfect sphere.
“Showoff,” she smirked at him.
“I try.”
Robin returned her eyes to what they made together, admiring the ease he brought to something that stressed her out just moments ago.
Things were just easier with Chrom in general.
“You guys are so slow!” Lissa whined from behind Chrom, rolling a sizable snowball back to where she originally sat with Robin.
“Oh my-!” Robin gasped in awe. “Lissa, how did you do that?”
“What, this?” she gestured to the snowball.
Chrom put his hand on Robin’s shoulder and shifted to block her view “Gods, don’t stroke her ego. We’ll never hear the end of it.”
“Hey!” the princess interjected. “I can’t help being better at this than you two! I’m naturally gifted at this sort of thing.”
Her brother gave a quick laugh before crafting a snowball and throwing it at her. It made contact with her coat, prompting her to quickly bend over and make a snowball of her own. She threw it at Chrom, though he anticipated her attack and moved out of the way just in time.
“Ah! Hah! Cold! Cold!” Robin shivered, the snow from Lissa’s throw sliding down her neck to her chest. Reflexively, she set the snowball she and Chrom made down before tugging her coat tightly around her chest.
“Why is it so cold in Ferox?” she whined as the snow melted, drenching her undershirt.
“Now look, Lissa. You hit Robin!”
“It wouldn’t have hit her if you had just stayed still! Besides, what makes you think I’m not freezing from when you hit me?”
“You deserved it though,” Chrom raised a brow.
“Fine then,” Lissa huffed. “I’m going inside!”
“What? You’re the reason we’re out here!” Robin argued.
“I know...I’m just…I’m going to grab some things for our snowman. It needs a nose and some eyes, you know.”
“Right now?”
“Why not?” the princess stretched before turning toward the estate, “Someone has to get it eventually, I might as well go right now. Have fun taking forever to finish the snowman.”
Before either of her companions could get a word in otherwise, Lissa ran away to the warm shelter.
“Sorry about that,” Chrom sighed.
“It’s just Lissa being Lissa, you don’t need to apologize.”
“Still, I wouldn’t have moved out of the way if I knew you’d be hit by that snowball,” he frowned. “Here, let me.”
Swiftly, the prince unwrapped the scarf from his neck before putting it around Robin’s. The blue fabric went around one, two times before he left it to drape down her chest.
“If you’d like to tuck it underneath your shirt or your coat, feel free,” he remarked, suddenly enamored with the small snowball in front of them.
Robin took a few seconds to do just that before Chrom cleared his throat again.
“We should probably finish this before she comes back out though. I can hold the snowball if you’d like to pack more onto it. We’ll roll it around once it gets big enough.”
The tactician shook her head, “I think it might be better if I hold it while you do all the complicated stuff.”
“Complicated?” Chrom’s eyes found hers, a small smirk on his face.
“You saw me earlier! Besides, I’m the one wearing gloves. At least your hands get a break if you’re patting the snow.”
He nodded, handing her the snowball before he lifted more and more of the powder to press into it. Occasionally, he would grab her wrist or her arm for leverage, but the process mostly felt like a game to the woman. Chrom applied more snow, and Robin guessed where she’d have to apply resistance to the pressure.
The two finished in a matter of minutes, though Robin gave the prince most of the credit. Their creation landed on the snow beneath them as they stood to roll it around the untouched areas on the ground.
“It’s traditional to stack snowmen three layers tall back in Ylisse,” the prince remarked. “Feroxian tradition is a bit different; they use two layers. I think it has something to do with the two Khans, but Lissa knows more about it than I do.”
“They have more than enough precipitation here to make them four layers tall,” Robin speculated.
“True,” Chrom chuckled, “but it would probably start snowing again in the time it would take to make that many snowballs.”
With that, they finished rolling the ball in the snow. The pair worked together to get it back to Lissa’s snowball, lifting theirs to place atop hers.
“Gods,” Robin huffed, “definitely a group activity.”
“We aren’t finished quite yet. Lissa said she would grab the eyes and nose, but we should probably find branches for the arms and something for its mouth.”
“Hmm…” Robin looked around. A small forest of trees stood tall several yards away, so branches wouldn’t be too hard to find.
“I can go grab some rocks from the main road by the estate. Do you think those would work?”
“Oh, I didn’t think of that,” she responded. “Sure. I can head toward the forest for branches.”
Walking against the wind, Robin began to realize just how cold she had gotten from spending so much time outside. Her gloves were soaked through from handling so much snow, and although Chrom’s scarf helped, she still wore her damp, frigid undershirt.
At least the snowman only needed a few more items. Once they wrapped this up, Robin would curl up in a chair with a blanket and a book until she could feel her toes again.
As her feet trudged along the edge of the forest, she began to wonder if Lissa planned to come back outside any time soon. Surely, she would at least help decorate their new friend.
Robin glanced around the uneven forest floor. Most of the branches that fell to the ground looked too thick for a snowball - their work would probably fall apart if she tried to use anything as large as the hilt of her sword.
Out of nowhere, her foot failed to find purchase as the ground crumbled away beneath her. It seemed the snow hadn’t landed in the exact shape of the forest, thanks to the branches blocking the precipitation from earlier.
“Woah-!”
She blindly tumbled down what was either a large hill or a small cliff - Robin wasn’t sure - as the shock of the frigid snow caused her to cry out. The tiny crystals invaded her coat, gloves, pants, and boots, her fall absorbed by the powder and a mix of her shoulders, knees, and hips.
At least it was soft. Well, as soft as plummeting through a forest could be.
Her momentum abruptly halted as she reached the lower level of the woods. Covered in snow, it was all she could do to thank Naga she hadn’t slammed into a tree and passed out.
Panicked and still high on adrenaline, Robin managed to lift her head out of the powder. Her chest had slammed into the ground, and she could hardly breathe. Though the Shepherd gasped for air, she couldn’t feel it entering her lungs.
“...-bin…?”
That was Chrom, though he sounded a bit far. As much as she wanted to call back to him, she couldn’t find her voice. Hopefully he could just follow the tracks she inevitably left behind.
“...Robin! Where are you? Are you-”
Once the voice grew close enough, the tactician turned her attention to the top of the hill. Sure enough, the prince of Ylisse stared back at her.
“I heard you scream,” he commented lamely, confusion on his face after scanning over her snow-dusted form. “Hang on, I’ll be right there.”
Chrom staggered his feet on the slope, using his arm to brace himself as he steadily slid down toward her.
In the seconds it took him to approach her, Robin attempted to brush herself off as well as she could with her shivering hands before struggling to stand.
The young lord arrived on solid ground, hastening his steps to get to his tactician, “Gods, Robin, what happened to you? You fell all the way down here from up there?”
“Not my proudest moment,” her teeth chattered.
“Nevermind then,” Chrom rushed to wrap her arm around his shoulder and support her. “Let’s just get you back to the shelter so you can warm up.”
“Yeah, I think I’m done with snow for today. Maybe we can take a different route back?”
The pair circled the small cliff, looking for a hill that appeared decidedly less steep. Thankfully, there appeared to be a safer option in the western part of the wood.
“We could probably get back faster if I carried you,” Chrom offered.
Robin liked to think that, in any other scenario, she might have hesitated before politely rejecting his offer. In the moment, however, she immediately welcomed the idea of giving her body a rest.
Unwrapping her arm from his shoulder, the Ylissean turned and lowered himself just enough so that Robin could climb onto his back. He was always lightly wary of how steady she was on her feet, encouraging her to balance using his arm until he safely lifted her off the ground.
“You’re lucky I was able to find you in the snow with that white hair of yours,” he started as he continued their trip back to the estate. “Things could always be worse.”
“Could be much better, too,” she frowned.
“I won’t argue with that.”
It didn’t take Chrom as long as Robin thought it would to return to the upper level of the forest and exit the woods. She supposed her original guess was influenced both by the pain in her limbs, the cold, and how much she slowed Chrom down.
She felt him let out a soft breath of air as they finally arrived to see Lissa doing their job for them.
“About time! I was thinking you were never going to-”
Once her eyes absorbed the sight of how disheveled her brother and her friend were, the princess dropped the buttons she was adjusting on the snowman and rushed to guide the two inside.
“There are some blankets on the couch, but I should probably help Robin out of those wet clothes first. And I was hoping to surprise you with cocoa when you came inside - it’s already prepared and sitting on the coffee table.”
Once the three made it through the door, Chrom lowered the woman off his back. He offered his arm to help her stand as Lissa took off her coat and boots. The princess led her to a spare room while her brother began to take off his own outer layers.
“Gosh, Robin. You need to be more careful - it’s only a matter of time before you get in over your head.”
“It wasn’t on purpose…”
Lissa sighed, pulling her drenched friend in for a hug, “I’m just worried about you, that’s all.”
Just as quickly, the youngest princess pulled away with a shiver.
“You’re way too cold! Let’s get you into something warm so we can all stop worrying, okay?”
Once everyone was finally warm in the common room and Frederick started a fire, it became much easier to laugh about everything that happened that day. Then, after a short argument that Lissa had no intention of losing, Robin surrendered her drenched coat for the day so Lissa could put it on their snowman. After all, if it had a coat, their wintry friend would have no need for branches as its arms.
Perhaps everything turned out right in the end.
