Meaning behind Self Care featuring Smash Afrika
This is the intro to the mixtape,Self Care was one of the last songs I recorded on the project. The beat was made by Jaeden Daniel for me about a year ago and Self Care was like the 3rd song I wrote on it until I felt like okay Self Care makes sense to me so I will go with it. Smash Afrika sent me a voicenote while I was venting to him about something and one day while listening to Self Care trying to figure out what I could add I had an idea of using his voicenote for it. I then searched through our chats and wala found it. I really felt like this voicenote would make perfect sense to use on the song firstly because of what Smash was saying but also for the person Smash is it just made sense. After mixing a rough edit of the song I then sent Smash Afrika the song and he instantly loved it. On the song I touch on quite a few personal things including me moving out of Umlazi into the city (Durban),leaving behind my old limiting habits and friends who are not focused and determined to make something great of themselves.
There are chants that I added on the song which were a late edition just after I included Smash’s voicenote. I felt like something was missing and before everyone in the studio knew it I was in the recording booth getting my Kid Cudi on haha
English translations :
Uzithande - Love yourself
Uzinakekele - Take care of yourself
You may have noticed the use of the word sense alot in this explanation of Self Care and the reason is that’s how my mind works, things just need to make sense and if they do I’m about them and pursue them but if not I skrrr pass

AKA to Headline SXSW Along With Pato Ranking and Kwesta

AKA to Headline SXSW Along With Pato Ranking and Kwesta
For years now, South African artistes have been headlining the international festival South By South West (SXSW) since K.O graced the even 2 years ago.
Kwesta headline the festival last year, along with an upcoming artist by the name of Robin Thirdfloor who also appeared on the performance poster. This year, SA flag remains hoisted at the festival as AKA headlines the main festival and will showcase on the night before that. Kwesta on the other hand makes a comeback to the festival showcasing on the night before the main festival as well. Other Africans making the line up include Patoranking, Seyi Shay and Adekunle Gold as the festival’s theme centers around Sounds From Africa & The Caribbean. What a time to be African yo!
We are proud to see Supa Mega continue his run in the USA as he’s no stranger to that terrain having performed at the BET Awards in 2015 and 2016, as well as gracing Shade 45’s Sway In The Morning amongst other activities. This is a great highlight for the fans as we anxiously wait for Touch My Blood to arrive some time this year. Check out the performance details below:

Robin Thirdfloor Bhotela Listening Session
Durban doesn’t seem to cater for creatives or people with a conceptualised artistic direction, the structures are just not in place to grow art in this city. So Umlazi alternative Hip Hop artist Robin Thirdfloor decided to host a listening party for his new EP titled ‘Bhotela’. The session took place at Khaya Records – not a record label but a very low key record store, you know vinyls right? Yes, a whole store dedicated to vinyls, it’s a dream.
The setting was very intimate, candid and casual, over a balcony viewing the skyscrapers of the city. I arrived early and Robin was still playing his old stuff just to set the mood as people came in drips and drabs. I spent some of my time browsing through the vast collection of vinyls as well as talking to the Jagermeister academy inductee. Then things got on the road as he introduced himself as well as having a conversation with the audience. He touched on topics of how his name came about. The concept of ‘Robin’ came from the Robin Hood, since his from Township based in the South of Durban. And the ‘Thirdfloor’ came from the fact that it was his third name change as an artist, he too is also a Hip Hop artist who doesn’t want to refer to himself as a rapper as he feels he is more than just a rapper. With a unique style of Hip Hop music which is a fusion of Dance, Kwaito, Gqom and Electronica.
Giving the story behind every song on the project and how it initially came about. Bhotela has a Swiss executive producer by the name of Dejot, who produced the entire EP. When the Switzerland Electronic producer came to South Africa, Robin’s name came in conversation. So Dejot reached out to Somdanger and before collaborating, Robin gave him a vast sample of South African sounds, from Gqom to Kwaito and from there Bhotela was born.
He takes us through his catalogue and even goes to explaining what the title means. Basically “Bhotela” is an insult in the hood basically a a softie or somebody who’s different, he says he was called that a lot. So he decided to take it and run with it, make it his own, he says. After finishing his performances, he opened a Q&A session for the audience. When asked why he chose the Dance and Kwaito sound, he says he feels like it’s one of the African genres that haven’t been stolen by a “Drake” and is still very exclusive to South Africa. He then pressed on how he wants to do a lot for Durban, because people abroad no little about where he’s from as he has realised this when he’s on his international trips.
Bhotela is available on Deezer and iTunes.

Meaning behind Phumelela featuring Camal,Jabulani Cindi and Seazy XXL
On Phumelela I called out my early collaborators and high school friends Camal and Seazy XXL alongside Jabulani Cindi to help create the uplifting song that is Phumelela.
Phumelela is an isiZulu word for succeed and on the song myself and the guys dive into the topic of success and what it means to each of us.
