Lonely task: there have not been many Labour canvassers out and about in Croydon for this year’s London elections – and they admit that they still have 90,000 leaflets to deliver Political editor WALTER CRONXITE has obtained internal Labour correspondence that suggests some pre-election panic for the party With the London elections just days away, Labour has sent begging letters to members…

I've been wanting to do this for like ever but uh I've been so nervous. Now that I have confidence (and actively trying to not second guess myself), I will go ahead with stride
Ahem...
.... @bluecatarts can Leech and Blackie be friends?
Hands u Leech
Plzzz? They're colored and everything... 🥺
I was gonna color them in this one but since I drew them too small I was scared of colors bleeding over the lines...
Edit: I forgot to mention (since I think about this a lot) that I think they would rob a candy store. Lemme know if u agree or not 0v0

Sadiq Khan says the brutal London murders of four women in three weeks is “absolutely heartbreaking” and vowed to tackle violent crime if given a historic third term.
Police found Kamonnan Thiamphanit, 27, stabbed to death at a £4 million Grade II-listed property on Stanhope Place, Bayswater near Hyde Park around 8.30am on Monday.
Neighbours heard sounds of a loud party on Saturday night at the home being rented out as an Airbnb holiday let, followed by two high-pitched screams the following day.
The Metropolitan Police search for Thiamphanit’s killer continues.
Last Saturday, Kennedi Westcarr-Sabaroche, 25, was discovered dead in a Vauxhall car in Hackney.
The dismembered torso of Sarah Mayhew, 38, was dumped in a Croydon park on April 2.
Goldsmiths College student Zhe Wang, 31, was fatally stabbed in Hither Green, Lewisham on March 20.
A spokesman for the London mayor said: “These murders are absolutely heartbreaking and Sadiq’s thoughts remain with their loved ones at this unimaginably awful time.
“Tackling violence against women and girls is an absolute top priority and that’s why he’s investing in policing and prevention, tackling the causes of these horrific crimes.”
A source close to him added: “The Tory government has imposed £1billion cuts on the Met with a devastating impact on the services that keep women safe.
“By contrast, Sadiq has invested a record £163m on tacking violence against women and girls in London.”
Susan Hall, Mr Khan’s Conservative opponent at the mayoral elections on May 2, said: “My thoughts are with the friends and family of the four women who have been murdered in recent weeks.
“It is truly shocking and heartbreaking.
“Everyone in our city deserves to feel safe, and to be safe, and I am determined to do all I can to reduce crime and make London safer for women.”
Lib-Dem Rob Blackie, another frontrunner, claimed there had been a “failure to tackle violence against women and girls under Sadiq Khan”.
He said: “Clear-up rates for rape and sexual assault have halved since he became mayor. And that is really because there hasn’t been any political attention to the problem.
“Police need the right IT and equipment. We have lost many cases due to freezers used to keep forensic evidence not being up to standard. Very often the same man will commit crimes again and again if you don’t catch them the first time.
“My top priority would be to get more money into the Met by abolishing Khan’s phoney Tube fares freeze. That would put more officers on the front line. We have 6,000 police stuck in back offices, double the number of any force in Britain.”
Commander Owain Richards said in Ms Thiamphanit’s killing there had been no signs of forced entry to the three-storey, five-bedroom terraced house.
Mr Richards added: “We believe the suspect was known to the victim in this case and our homicide detectives are working around the clock to pursue all lines of inquiry to trace the suspect, arrest them and bring them to justice.
“This terrible incident follows a number of other horrific fatal attacks on women recently – including those in Croydon, Hackney and Lewisham.
“We recently shared information about the work we’re doing to tackle violence against women and girls using data-led tactics to target dangerous offenders and bring them to justice.
“Kamonnan’s murder makes us all the more determined in our efforts to do everything we possibly can to keep women and girls safe.”
The Metropolitan Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct watchdog over the incident.
Police were contacted twice on Sunday by a friend concerned about her welfare, but officers attended over 13 hours later.
Pacharapol Padermprach, press secretary of the Royal Thai Embassy in London, told the Standard his community is “shocked and saddened”, adding: “We have been in close contact with the Metropolitan Police on this case and in informing Ms Thiamphanit’s family.
“We are confident that the Met will do its best to bring those responsible to justice.
“Due to the ongoing investigation, we are unable to provide any further information.”

... Continua a leggere su

Mayor rules out changes to Ulez while mayor
The Mayor of London has ruled out any changes to the Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez) scheme while he is in office.
Sadiq Khan said there will be no changes to vehicle restrictions, while a spokesperson said the £12.50 Ulez charge would also not be increased.
Susan Hall, Conservative mayoral candidate, dubbed the promises "worthless", while Lib Dem candidate Rob Blackie called on Mr Khan to fix existing problems with Ulez.
The Greens were contacted for comment.
The central London Ulez, introduced in 2019 and designed to tackle air pollution, was extended to cover the whole of Greater London in August 2023.
A £12.50 daily charge applies for entering the zone in a vehicle that does not meet emission standards.
The Ulez expansion sparked protests across London.
Move to reverse Ulez expansion runs out of time
Demo held to protest against Ulez expansion
In a letter to London's transport commissioner Andy Lord, Mr Khan said there had been "speculation about the future of road charging schemes in London".
"There is clearly still more to do to tackle air pollution, and I'm determined to continue leading from the front in London," he said.
"But my commitment to Londoners is this will not include a new pay-per-mile road user charging scheme or amending the standards for the Ulez scheme.
"The introduction and expansion of the Ulez has been necessary and effective. But now it's in place and working, I will ensure the goalposts are not moved for drivers."
Instead, he said work would focus on improving walking and cycling, reducing air pollution around schools, increasing the electric vehicle charging network and making public transport more affordable.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the mayor added: "For the record, this also means that as long as Sadiq is Mayor the £12.50 Ulez charge will not be increased."

They robbed us of the chance to watch Rang play dad/older bro to Blacky 🥺
There’s a baby in episode 4. That brings an idea to my mind - the fox brothers playing dads to a kid they rescued or something?
Yes!! I was thinking the same thing!!
There's something I love about "accidental baby acquisition" especially when it's two clueless men 🤭 I'm so excited to see what exactly will be happening next episode, but either way I would love to write a fic based on that idea alone, and how it would force yeon and rang to work together to look after said child 😊

SO. MAYORAL ELECTIONS
it used to be that there was a supplementary vote system to elect all the mayors, but the tory government literally got rid of that and replaced it with First Past The Post. you used to have two votes: one to vote for the candidate you liked the most, and that would only be counted if your favourite candidate got eliminated, so you could hedge your bets with one of the more popular candidates. THEY ABOLISHED THIS. now it’s the same antidemocratic bullshit as parliament, with the tories attempting to worm their way to mayoral victories by exploiting divided opposition to them. hell country
basically the mayors were created because the tories absolutely shat up how local government works, fucking it up on like four separate occasions in the past 50 years. local government right now is a confused and horrible mess. the mayors are a little plaster on top of that, they organise various local government areas that sometimes overlap. they don’t have a full government behind them, it’s just them and their office attempting to do policy across their area. it’s a mess. i’ll cover the ins and outs of the nightmare system and how it got this fucked up later and you will learn my pain
anyway despite that they’re very high profile. this year’s election is characterised by labour advances and tory disaster, so the mayoralties will be key battlegrounds. some say that if the result is bad enough, the tories might regicide again before the general election. would they could they? who knows who cares. it’ll change nothing
LIVERPOOL
INCUMBENT: STEVE ROTHERAM, LABOUR
this is the mayor of the Liverpool City Region, ie all of Merseyside, not to be confused with the mayor of just the City of Liverpool, Jo Anderson, not to be confused with her predecessor, Joe Anderson
rotheram is running for a third term against a tory, a liberal and a green. liverpool’s labour has kinda become known for its corruption, so there could be public antipathy. rotheram walked to victory last time, winning in the first round. he left school at 16 to become a bricklayer, then became an mp. he’s strongly aligned with manchester mayor burnham’s campaign for decentralisation up north. he wants to expand merseyrail
last election, first and only round:

LONDON
INCUMBENT: SADIQ KHAN, LABOUR
yes, that is actually the current flag of london
the mayor of london was created by a different law than the other mayors, and so is way more powerful. they have a lot of budget and can really effect policy in the capital, especially when it comes to transport and crime
khan is the most boring mayor of london of all time, for better and for worse. he’s not the first to run for a third term but he’d be the first to win a third term, after ken livingstone was defeated by some disgraced journalist or something
the abolition of the supplementary vote is really bad for london. there were TWENTY candidates last time, including two youtubers, an intergalactic laser warrior, a man who couldn’t make billie piper orgasm, and corbyn’s evil brother. now with first past the post, it’s gonna collapse back down to the big parties. sad
the candidates are ❤️khan, 💙susan hall, 💚zoë garbett, 🧡rob blackie, 🖤count binface, an animal welfare candidate, and seven different crazy rightists, who’re either angry at environmental regulations or about “wonk ideology”. one of them wants to teach the police kung fu
the tory candidate last time was a pathetic wet blanket who couldn’t campaign to save his life, so the fact it ended so close was seen as an indictment of khan’s boring term in city hall. he’s done precious little else since, but this time he’s polling really high, because of the national situation and because susan hall is insane. she’s doing a “tough on crime” type campaign and wants to surge police funds by strikebreaking transport workers and slashing transport investment, which she’ll compensate for by abolishing the expanded emissions zone to get more petrol cars onto the streets. yay
last election, first round:
❤️40% 💙35% 💚8% 🧡4% 🩵2%
second round:
❤️55% 💙45%
MANCHESTER
INCUMBENT: ANDY BURNHAM, LABOUR CO-OP
Andy “King of The North” Burnham is also running for a third term as mayor of manchester, despite a fuckton of rumours he’d stand down to run for parliament as a shoe-in to replace sir kid starver as prime minister. he turned down a surefire shot at number ten to run for a third term. he’s putting his money where his mouth is
he’s run for labour leader twice already, in 2010 and 2015, in the latter finishing second behind upstart corbyn, for whom he briefly served as shadow home secretary before becoming the mayoral candidate. he’s Soft Left and proud - after starmer’s purges this makes him probably the highest profile centre-leftist in the country. he’s been big in campaigning for decentralisation and greater powers and funding for the north; he got a load of coverage when HS2-north got cancelled and he railed (ha) against the government’s refusal to invest in northern transport. he’s big into public transport and introduced the Bee Network of bee buses and bee trams and bee bikes
the candidates are him, a tory, a liberal, a green, and a reformist (? is that what we call them? idk). the reform guy was the tory candidate until two weeks ago when he defected, so the tories have had to helicopter in someone new. also, 2021’s reform candidate is running as an independent
the 2021 elections were held at the height of Johnson’s power and at a poor time for kid starver. it was a tory walkover across the country, which really hurt mayor khan. there were two big exceptions - the cooperative socialists running proud Preston and doing a bang-up job of it, and Burnham. on labour’s darkest night, where khan’s vote share went down by 3%, burnham’s went up by 4%. there is an appetite for the social democracy he’s selling. did somebody say bloodbath

EAST MIDLANDS
VACANT
yeah the ‘east midlands’ doesn’t actually have a flag, it’s just derbyshire and nottinghamshire glued together. stole that one from r/vexillology. i like it tho
it’s supposed to be a mayor for the nottingham-derby semi-conurbation, except this new mayor also represents all of rural derbs and notts as well, because of the messy nature of things. but despite the “rural” nature of a lot of the area this is not tory shireland - coincidentally both derbs and notts county councils were labour from 1974-1977, 1981-2009, and 2013-2017. this is the heartland of the coal belt. this is miners’ strike country. this is dennis skinner, robin hood country. it should be a labour victory under current national circumstances, and it’ll be a big upset if it’s not
the labour candidate is claire ward, who was born in North Shields, raised in Borehamwood, and was mp for Watford from 1997-2010, which are famously all places in the east midlands. she’s a member of the co-operative party. she became MP at age 24, so she’s only 51 now despite her cv. in parliament she chaired the Chocolate and Confectionary Committee, claimed £90,000 in second home expenses despite living in WATFORD on the metropolitan line (adjusted for inflation, more than £140k), and rebelled against the Brown government several times to try reduce the 24-week limit on abortion. after her defeat she became a pharmaceutical lobbyist. this is the slime nominated by starmer’s centralising labour party, and FPTP means she’ll sail to victory
the tory candidate is ben bradley, mp for mansfield who’s about to get annihilated at the general election, but also -get this- the Leader of Nottinghamshire. apparently that’s allowed. he wrote that the poor should be given unconsensual vasectomies and said that free school meals lead to brothels. there’s also a green candidate, a reform candidate, supposedly a liberal but they’ve not announced who yet, a boring independent and an antivax independent
WEST MIDLANDS
INCUMBENT: ANDY STREET, TORY
okay, this is the key battleground. it’s not interesting though, but attention will be on it nonetheless. it’s birmingham. labour will wanna make it the jewel in the crown
street is, like fucking everyone, running for a third term. he was the boss of John Lewis for a good while, and despite running the country’s most successful for-profit worker co-operative, he’s a libertarian trussite. despite this he’s nurtured a reputation as sensible and calm, and is kinda popular among moderates. he’s the first gay regional mayor and is long-term partnered to michael fucking fabricant of all people
the labour candidate is some nobody accountant called “richard parker”. i shit you not, his big role before this was at PricewaterhouseCoopers as the in-house lobbyist targeting the miliband shadow cabinet. three cheers for starmer’s labour yaaaay. there’s also a green, liberal and reform candidate
the 2017 election was tight, with street winning the second round 50.4% to 49.6%. that’s why the west midlands is so important to labour - if they can overturn street’s 2021 majority then they’re doing better than they were in 2017 and have the momentum to take the country
last election, first round:
💙49% ❤️40% 💚6% 🧡4% 🩵2%
second round:
💙54% ❤️46%
NORTH EAST
INCUMBENT: JAMIE DRISCOLL, INDEPENDENT, SORT OF
okay okay okay okay right. let me explain
the *new* North East combined authority has been created from the merger of the old North East CA (durham, gateshead, sunderland, south tyne) and the North of Tyne CA (northumberland, newcastle, north tyne). the old NECA was just a board coordinating the several districts, with no elected mayor, but the old NoTCA did have a mayor, first elected in 2019, one jamie driscoll
driscoll was a labour councillor in newcastle and is a member of Unite and the tyne & wear antifascist association. he fought the newcastle council leader for the labour nomination for the new position of NoTCA mayor and won, getting the endorsement of momentum and the unions Unite, RMT, TSSA, FBU and ASLEF, and clive lewis, laura pidcock, john mcdonnell and noam chomsky. his platform included community wealth building, like with Preston
in the first round, it was ❤️60k 💙45k 🖤30k 🧡25k 💜20k, black being some independent business guy and purple being ukip. this was during the crisis of 2019, when both big parties were at their lowest levels of support. of the 75k votes that were due to be redistributed to their second preference, only 30k actually were, with red and blue taking pretty much 15k each, meaning driscoll had won 56%-44%. he stormed to victory in the cities, but in northumberland lost 57%-43%, which are, honestly, impressive numbers for a leftist in the english countryside, especially in 2019
mayor driscoll was instrumental in pressuring the central government to merge NECA and NoTCA, finally allowing some sort of integrated authority for the north east. he announced his plan to run again as the labour candidate for the merged position
a panel appointed by labour’s national executive committee blocked the incumbent mayor from appearing on the longlist, barring his candidacy for labour.
a journalist got access to the footage of the zoom call, and they did not ask anything about his beliefs, his policies, or his actions as mayor. they spent the hour pretty much discussing one thing: Palme d’Or and BAFTA-winning director ken loach, whom driscoll had spoken with at a newcastle theatre, about his award-winning films. loach had been expelled from the labour party for supporting the banned group “labour against the witchhunt”, not for anything he himself did. while the group may have protested real grievances over the media frenzy and unjust attacks on the left during the corbyn era, admittedly, this group did protest the definition of antisemitism and called for the abolition of the compliance unit, and doggedly defended some actual real antisemites and antisemitism. both optically and literally not great. loach’s expulsion, however, was guilt-by-association. the panel did not give a reason for driscoll’s omission from the longlist, but given the questions asked in the zoom call, it’s an attempt at extremely-thin second-order guilt-by-association. over a conversation about films. of course, it’s not about any of that - it’s a flimsy charge to get a political opponent out of the way
mayors burnham and rotheram supported their comrade after this insanity, but the NEC couldn’t be swayed, and the national labour right defended the decision
mayor driscoll left the labour party to run as an independent, and five labour councillors are supporting his campaign. the uk’s first elected romani politician was also prevented from standing. 11/22 constituency labour parties declined to support any mayoral candidate. labour never publicly revealed the full numbers of the internal vote, with a source claiming under half the membership had submitted a vote. the winner was the incumbent police commissioner of northumbria, a nobody but aligned with starmer
mayor driscoll is basically taking his current mayoral platform into overdrive, all about green jobs, total employment, and total local control of transport with massive fare reduction. the tory candidate is on the northumberland council, and the liberals, greens, and reform are also running
now. due to the weird situation nationally, i can’t bring myself to endorse any party or give any full advice about who to vote for. it’ll depend on a lot of factors, local and national, but i’ll help provide you information to make up your own mind about the situation where you are. unless you’re geordie in which case Re-Elect Mayor Driscoll, give him your money, get involved in his campaign, and get out the vote
i’m amy fuck and i approve this message. driscoll 2024
TEESSIDE
INCUMBENT: LORD HOUCHEN THE BARON HOUCHEN OF HIGH LEVEN, TORY
despite birmingham being the big prize for labour, teesside is the better score. it was considered a safe labour victory when it was created in 2017, but then lord houchen the baron houchen of high leven won it 51%-49%, and then in an absolute fucking landslide in 2021
this is The Wall. this is the working-class that looked to the johnson government and invested its faith in the populist message, that brexit would rain jobs from the sky, that the government would fund the north, that the economy would build itself more and more. this is the lied-to, that found nothing in the nationwide labour party bar patronisation
they’ve done polling in teesside and labour’s on track for a landslide, but not by their own merit. the ‘19 tories took the postindustrial working class for a fucking ride with lie after lie after lie. lord houchen the baron houchen of high leven is gonna experience the largest swing against a mayor in mayoral history, but labour is being given it on a silver platter by the national tories. they are complacent. they will be burnt again. the labour right will be seen as patronising liars once again, it just happens to be the tories’ turn on the chopping block
last election, first and only round:
💙73% ❤️27%
NORTH YORKSHIRE
VACANT
this’d be the biggest upset if it goes labour. but literally who cares
PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF SOUTH YORKSHIRE
INCUMBENT: OLIVER COPPARD, LABOUR CO-OP
honestly this one is really boring as well ngl, which is a shame because i love sheffield, just like george spence. the 2017 mayor was the mp dan jarvis, who didn’t seek reelection, so then a thing known as “oliver coppard” was elected. umm he took control of the sheffield trams, which is cute i guess. he’s running against a tory, who’s on doncaster council, and the leader of the greens on sheffield council. the yorkshire party ran last time but not this time. umm
ooh the last election was only in 2022. this is because they’ve only just merged it with the police commissioner, who’s term is expiring, so the mayor has to be elected now. that’s fun innit
last election, first round:
❤️43% 💙17% 🩷13% 💚12% 🧡10%, with pink being the Yorkshire Party
second round:
❤️71% 💙29%
WEST YORKSHIRE
INCUMBENT: TRACY BRABIN, LABOUR CO-OP
former soap actor tracy brabin is the first female metro mayor. she’d been slightly involved in labour when she was a jobbing actor, but properly campaigned for them in the 2015 election, in her constituency, due to the campaign against local library closures by the labour candidate, jo cox. after her assassination she took over as mp. she served for a bit as shadow culture and media secretary, but got demoted to shadow minister when starmer took over. then she became mayor
brabin’s done cyclehires and measures against violence against women, but it seems she’s not set the world on fire. her achievements in localising the transport network have been lacklustre, so far reaching a public consultation

So yeah, Kizaru is here and I had forgotten his full name is Borsalino Kizaru.
I have no idea if you know, but Borsalino is like, one of the oldest, if not the oldest hat business in Italy and also a type of hat. AND KIZARU IS NOT WEARING A HAT. WHERE’S YOUR BORSALINO, SIR? WHERE’S YOUR HAT? WHERE’S YOUR HAT THAT HAS THE SAME NAME AS YOU?
Coincidentally, there is a One Piece character wearing a borsalino, and that’s none other than Rob Lucci, our friendly neighbourhood overgrown cat-man.
#vitadacami#blacky watches things#one piece#kizaru#borsalino kizaru#rob lucci#I swear to god oda#you can't keep doing this to me#WHY ISN'T HE WEARING THE DAMN HAT#😭😭😭
