"Road Home" by Rex Ogle.
"Road Home" by Rex Ogle is a poignant memoir that chronicles the author's experiences growing up in poverty and navigating the challenges of adolescence. Set in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., the story follows Rex as he grapples with the harsh realities of hunger, homelessness, and family dysfunction. Despite facing adversity at every turn, Rex finds solace and strength in his love for reading and writing, which serve as a means of escape and self-expression. As he navigates the complexities of his home life and the pressures of school, Rex confronts issues of identity, shame, and the enduring bonds of family. Through his candid and introspective narrative, Ogle sheds light on the systemic injustices that perpetuate cycles of poverty and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of hardship. With its raw emotion and unflinching honesty, "Road Home" offers a powerful exploration of poverty, privilege, and the pursuit of hope in the midst of adversity. Ogle's memoir is a testament to the transformative power of storytelling and a reminder of the importance of empathy and understanding in building a more compassionate society.

I’m actually kind of sad I didn’t like “road home” as much as I wanted to. It just didn’t do it for me. It was way too slow burn and even though I think the pairing between jing boran and tan songyun was great, in my mind boran has always been kind of goofy... so I would’ve wanted them to be in something much more laid back and romcom-esque, even though I appreciate his sentiment when he was describing the hook of the show. he basically said that it’s not always realistic for a romantic relationship to recover from a break up, and in order for two people to meet again, and still hold onto the love they’d had is very hard yet can be very beautiful. I felt that your honor, and that’s exactly what they tried to showcase in road home. two people that loved each other so much, and despite breaking up still found comfort in one another after decades of not seeing or speaking to each other. I look at this drama just on paper and I think it’s revolutionary but when I actually watched it I never once got into it. the behind the scenes where boran is joking around with songyun which is him in his actual element honestly was often times more interesting and riveting than the show itself. so basically two of my favorite actresses were kind of in flop dramas (for me personally) but I’m being brave about it

Road Home is should have been titled for "Buckle your Seatbelts, this is going to be a LONG, LONG trip home".
Guys, this drama is the slowest of burns and the mellowest of dramas. There is chemistry, but there is a lot of awkwardness and meaningless conversations (and so many seatbelt scenes, like why?) until we get to the meat of the story.
Do you like...
>angsty eyes, but little conversation? >so many goodbyes and not enough hellos? >a backstory so shy, it peaks its head only once in a while? >drama made up of the side characters to fill in the silence of the leads?
What I'm trying to say is...you're goinog to need lots of patience for this.
Where is the payoff? ep 11. You're welcome.

Why aren’t you saying anything? No wonder you want to hold a wedding after the child turned one years old. So that was your plan. You’ve been working for two years, cleared your debt, and saved enough for a wedding.
Lu Chen in Ep 11: At most, only two years. I will settle my debt. Then I’ll save money to marry you.

You watch Road Home? Awesome just started it I have to say I didn't like the scene where the FL friends or at least the female one was kind of blaming ML for having a fiance he didn't know about I can feel like I'm not going to like her like he did nothing wrong it's the abusive father that's the problem lol The leads are amazing though I'm glad we're getting about 30 episodes of them and no LT finally a drama without them.
hahaha im one of the 2% minority who enjoys love triangles in drama BUT THAT SAID this is the type of drama the definitely benefits from not having one!
im trying to recall the scene--are you referring to when the SFL and her husband were talking to lu chen at the event hall? if so, i remember the vibes were kind of off but i felt like a lot of that had to do with the subs i was watching (the ones on iqiyi so far have felt...pretty off?)
im excited to dive back into this show! sadly not quite in the mood anymore for a slow-paced melo, but we'll get there :D

I’m trying really hard to pick up road home again, and I straight up can’t... this drama for me, is so similar to jang nara’s “oh my baby.” NOT because of the plot but because the trailers make this drama seem so much more exciting than it really is. road home is described as a very beautiful, pure relationship between the leads, and it is. I can understand the direction to make a truly romantic, well grounded extended relationship between two people but bro, it’s so boring to me. rather than thinking boran and songyun don’t have chemistry, the script really doesn’t give too much for them to showcase it. boran said it right in his interview when he said the character’s journey together is valuable because two people in love who separate don’t always have the means to reestablish a romantic relationship after a decade, but they do and it’s sincere. I see the snippets of them together and I think it fucks, but when I actually watch the episode it dissipates. which is exactly how I felt about “oh my baby.” at least for songyun as xiao in flight to you, despite the overarching theme of business and work I felt the writers gave wang kai and songyun enough room to curate a sweet and simple love life. In master of my own too, albeit relatively short. boran and songyun are completely in love in this drama, they look so good together, but shit it’s really not that interesting
