Whumptober Day 14-multiple whumpees

No art for today cuz multiple whumpees means drawing multiple people and I just do not have the strength for that lol. I was struggling to draw yesterday anyways and didn’t want to push it. I’ll still try to get some art for the very important days tho :]

Anyways, yay! Everyone’s alive and not doing well!

“Weird how quiet it can be when Benji isn’t here.”

Talon glanced up from his book, smiling at Rusl who was staring at the ceiling. Leon snorted, nodding in agreement.

“That man is incapable of being quiet,” he muttered, leaning back against his chair casually. “It’s nice not having to hear him for a little bit.”

“Oh, y’all are too hard on him,” Talon said, closing his book. “Benji’s a joy to be around.”

“Oh! I’m not saying that he isn’t!” Rusl defended, laughing nervously. “I love Benji! I’m just sayin’ it’s funny how quiet it is without him here!”

Talon glanced over at Leon who had a funny expression on his face.

“Leon?”

The man let out a long sigh, his eyes glancing up at the ceiling.

“Benji is obnoxious,” he said simply, and Rusl let out a chuckle.

“Oh but you love him, you know you do!” He teased, and Leon rolled his eyes, resulting in Rusl throwing his pillow at him.

“You’re lucky you’re injured right now, Rusl,” Leon growled, taking the pillow off his face and tossing it back to a laughing Rusl. Talon rolled his eyes while chuckling himself and returning to his book.

“Where are the others, anyways?” Rusl asked, his back leaned against the wall while hugging the pillow with his good arm.

“They’re trying to make more rupees so we can stay here longer,” Leon answered, his eyes closed.

“They’ve been out for a while,” Rusl muttered, returning the pillow to his back and leaning against it.

“Oh, they’re probably messin’ around,” Talon said, thinking about Benji and Kass playing their music for money. He wondered if that’d actually work.

The door that led into their room suddenly opened, and Talon glanced up with a smile.

“Speak of the devil! Y’all are finally ba—oh my goodness gracious!”

Kass, Linebeck, Benji, and Ammon walked in the room, each one looking rough in one way or another. Kass was cradling his left wing, a worried expression on his face, Benji was limping and his brows were furrowed, Linebeck was pale and looked like he was about to pass out, and Ammon looked far worse, with a few small scratches and his clothes ripped and covered in blood. Benji limped over to the couch and sprawled out on it, letting out a sigh.

“Hey Talon,” he greeted, staring blankly at the wall. Kass joined him and gingerly sat down, still holding his wing. Linebeck and Ammon only remained standing, with Ammon staring miles ahead of him.

“What the heck happened to y’all?” Talon asked.

“We were just investigating a well,” Benji answered simply. “I kinda hurt my ankle.”

“I—um—my wing is broken,” Kass muttered, and Talon looked between them before glancing at Ammon and Linebeck. But Ammon simply walked across the room, entering the second room silently and shutting the door. Talon turned to Linebeck who shifted, still looking a few shades lighter than his usual tan complexion.

“What happened?”

Linebeck swallowed and shook his head. “I’m gonna go talk to Rusl real quick. Just take care of them.”

The man walked past Talon, lingering near Leon for a moment, and went into Rusl’s room while shutting the door behind him. Leon and Talon glanced at each other, and they both turned to Benji and Kass.

“Don’t bother interrogating us, we don’t know what happened,” Benji sighed, rubbing his ankle. Talon frowned and nodded at Leon.

“Well we oughta get y’all patched up. Leon, could you take care of Benji while I get Kass?”

“Yes.”

The two men got to work, with Talon observing Kass’s wing and Leon poking Benji’s ankle.

“Does it hurt when I do this?” The first knight asked, and Benji shook his head.

“No. I mean kinda but not too much. I think I just twisted it.”

Leon lifted it up and Benji gasped, trying to pull away.

“Ok, it hurts when you do that, idiot!”

Leon gave him a look, but Talon cleared his throat.

“Don’t you even think about dropping it,” Talon warned, and Leon sighed, setting his leg down gently.

“Your ankle doesn’t feel broken. Just stay off of it for a little bit and you’ll be fine,” he said, and Talon poked Benji’s ankle.

“Oh yeah, I think it’s fine. It ain’t even swollen. Just stay off it for a couple of days.”

“Yes sir.”

Talon returned to Kass’s wing, rubbing the feathers gently.

“How many rupees were you able to collect?” Leon asked.

“Two-hundred,” Benji answered, his hand resting on his face as his head was leaned back.

“Oh! What did y’all do to get that much?” Talon asked, and Benji let out an annoyed sigh while Leon continued to observe his ankle.

“I sold a bag of deku seeds and Ammon had like…some rupees and Linebeck had some as well and whatever.”

Talon stared. “That sounds… eventful.”

“We investigated a well,” Kass elaborated. “The water was contaminated so we went to look for the source. There’s a huge cavern down there hidden by a fake wall! Very creepy. We were down there for a bit but found nothing, and Ammon investigated the rest on his own.”

“His own? Is that why he’s—“ Leon started, and Kass nodded.

“I assume so. Linebeck went back down there because we were worried when he didn’t come back up, and… well… he was carrying him up the ladder, and he looked terrible! The man who recruited us helped take care of Ammon the best he could, but neither he nor Linebeck would tell us what happened!” Kass frowned, rubbing his beak. “We found a fairy down there, and I think Linebeck used it.”

Talon and Leon gave each other worried looks.

“And they’ve said nothing?” Leon asked, and Kass nodded.

“Yeah, though it seems Linebeck is talking it out with Rusl,” he said, but he glanced at the second bedroom, a worried expression on his face. “It’s Ammon I’m mostly worried about. He didn’t seem like himself.”

Talon nodded, observing Kass’s wing. No doubt he was worried about him too; he’d visit him once he was done with the immediate injuries. Right now it seemed like he wanted to be alone.

“At least we got a hundred rupees from it,” Benji said, and Kass mumbled a response.

It grew silent as Talon treated Kass’s wing the best he could, but he really didn’t know a thing about treating wings, so he hoped treating it like an arm would do the trick. With two slings to hold his large wing, Talon called it good and gave Kass a few pats.

“Just tell me if it gets worse, ok? We might have to go to a real doctor,” Talon said, and Kass nodded.

“Thank you, Talon. Really. I don’t know what we’d do without you.”

Talon chuckled and shrugged, glancing at the others. “Yeah, well, y’all’d’ve died without me honestly. Haha!”

Kass stared blankly, glancing at Benji and Leon who also stared blankly, and Talon cleared his throat.

“Well, if y’all’ll excuse me. I’m gonna go check on Rusl and Linebeck, then I’m gonna see what I can do for Ammon.”

Leon nodded, his brows furrowed. “Let me know if you need anything.”

“Of course.”

Talon got up and walked to the room Rusl and Linebeck were in, knocking before poking his head through. Linebeck was sitting next to Rusl’s bed, looking exhausted but surprised to see Talon, and Rusl had a worried look on his face, but it quickly went away when he smiled at Talon.

“Hey!”

“Hey, just wanted to make sure y’all were doin’ ok in here,” Talon said, and Linebeck nodded quietly.

“We’re fine. Just talking.” He mumbled, and Rusl gave Talon a thumbs up with his good hand.

“Yeah, everything’s alright. Thanks for checking in!”

“‘Course! Let me know if y’all need anything!” Talon said before leaving, quietly shutting the door before reluctantly walking up to the next one. He let out a breath and opened the door. It was dark, only the light peeking through the curtains allowed Talon to see, and he spotted Ammon laying on his back on the bed, staring at the ceiling. He glanced over at Talon, not looking surprised to see him, and turned back to stare.

“Hey Talon,” he said in a monotone voice, and Talon stepped in further, shutting the door behind him. He walked up to the bed, giving Ammon a worried look.

“Hey, how are you doin’?”

“I’m… alive.”

“Yeah, I’m glad you are. Sounds like y’all had it rough out there.”

“You could say that.”

Talon pursed his lips and looked Ammon over. His clothes were filthy, ripped, and bloodied, but there didn’t seem to be a mark on Ammon save for small cuts.

“Are you hurt anywhere?”

Ammon paused, lifting his right arm and moving it before letting it drop. “No.”

“Ok, that’s good.”

Talon continued to stare at Ammon’s clothes, and he plucked the frayed fabric.

“You should change your clothes,” he suggested. “I’d like to look you over to make sure you are ok too.”

Emotion flickered across Ammon’s face, and he glanced at Talon without turning his face.

“I-I’d rather you didn’t.”

Talon blinked in surprise. “Why not?”

“I just don’t want you to see—I’m fine, I promise.”

Talon frowned, but he thought for a moment. During this adventure, the men had grown quite comfortable with each other, exposing their chests without a care in the world—all except Ammon. He never joined them when they decided to take a dip in a lake, he always made sure to change in private, and he rarely showed any skin besides his forearms. Most likely the man was hiding something or was simply too uncomfortable to be half naked around everyone. Talon sighed and pulled back, not wanting to push it any further if he wasn’t comfortable about it.

“Alright, Ammon, I trust you. But I do suggest you get some new clothes while we patch yours up, though. You wanna borrow mine?” Talon paused. “Wait no, my clothes will drown you. You’re too tiny. I’m sure Rusl or Benji would let you borrow some of their clothes.”

Ammon stared for a moment but smiled softly, looking relieved. “Alright, I suppose that’s fair.” The man sat up, rubbing his face and sighing. “I’m sorry if I seem out of it… I just… I haven’t been present these past few hours. I don’t even remember going in here.”

Talon’s eyes widened. “Oh, really? What… what happened to you?”

Ammon blinked a few times and shuddered. “I was just reminded of something from my childhood, is all. I don’t really want to talk about it.”

“That’s fine. Just know that we’re here for you.”

Ammon smiled more genuinely. “Thank you.”

“Of course, now let me see if I can borrow some clothes for you, and I’ll leave you alone.”

Ammon nodded, and Talon got up to leave, but he paused before he opened the door, turning to Ammon.

“Let me know if you’re in pain, ok? Don’t let injuries go untreated. Please.”

Ammon nodded again, and Talon opened the door, leaving him alone.

Dude, I was in the middle of My Stand In, trying to get it done before I had to start work today, but I had to pause it cause MEW AND TUL CAME OUT.
