"Well, to be quite honest, I haven't had much of a chance to really experiment with the more modern Sinnohan delicacies. Much of it has left me feeling quite ill— It's been something of an adjustment period, something about the change in production processes I've been told… I avoid eating out in Unova for many of the same reasons. I've been giving my brother something of a headache with the shopping, I'm sure." He himself makes most of their food these days, breakfast lunch and dinner alike. His digestive system has been slowly adapting back to a more modern palate, at least.

Definitely not enough for those strange street vendor hotdogs, though. Ingo had tried them once, when he'd only just returned and Emmet seemed so… excited about it. He really, really should have known better.

"Either way though, I'd say I do still quite like it when available! It retains some measure of familiarity, though I can't say much the same for any resemblance to actual Hisuian food."

"It's… just different, I suppose? If anything, modern cuisine in Sinnoh is just the sort of fare Jubilife brought over when they'd first established themselves. They were quite obstinate about how 'food should really be made.'" Or maybe that was just Beni. It's not as though he'd been invited in for meals beyond the occasional proposition from Zisu or a scant few Corps members.

"Oh, they don't really seem to do ruibe anymore, at least where I had been— ah, it's a little like sashami but frozen and… less… pomp? Preparation? It's just frozen koikingu— hm— magikarp we'd left buried in the snow to preserve it. You aren't really supposed to let it completely thaw out. Sashami is fine, I just find I prefer the texture when it's half-thawed. That, and they never have any fira-pi sauce. I suppose you'd call it figy-pep? Cheri is fine, but it doesn't really have the same profile."

"…Emmet told me we shouldn't be eating fish raw here in Unova, else i'd probably still indulge. He mentioned looser regulations and diseases in mass-fishing operations."

"On that particular note, I've had to change how I prepare citatep as well— you really ought to leave the head and any cartilage in if you make it, by the by. The point of it is to use the whole organism, not to just cut out half your meal. It doesn't make it any worse."

"Oh, sorry. I guess I've derailed from the original point, haven't I?"

"Ultimately, it's a world of small differences that make quite a large disparity in the end result. There are plenty of foods that look familiar in Sinnoh, but are made of completely different things… I'm never putting their dumplings anywhere near my engine ever again. I suppose I just ought to be glad that they no longer prepare ringuma in anything. It was important for quite a few reasons nobody seems to recall anymore."

Lucius….Raiden….how did you first meet?

"It all started when Raiden threw himself off a cliff-" Lucius snorted.

"You can't start there! Hey!" Raiden shoved his paws into Lucius's face. Whatever foul mood he had previous been in was gone completely. "To better explain it, I was sent outside of my village by mom to pick up some berries for my little sister. Since mom and dad are busy with taking care of him while asshat Hanzo is focusing on his training, I been taking care of some small tasks here and there. I go out, and I stumble upon a Ringuma. I was really really cool at fighting it and defeating it." Raiden gave a smug smirk at this.

"And then you fell off the cliff," Lucius repeated.

"Hey! The cliff wasn't there when I saw it!" Raiden complained. "But yeah...I fell off it cooly! But anyway, as I recovering from falling off, I hear this noise and i look around to see these eyes watching. Of course, I'm getting terrible vibes from this and I start running until I ended up bumping into a tree. Then surprise! Lucius came out of nowhere...but it was mostly to make sure I wasn't spotted by a uh...what did you call it?"

"A Brute Bonnet?" Lucius answered. "Once I saved from being spot, you chose to try to hit me with a Focus Blast."

"You were a random stranger with bad vibes. I couldn't trust you!" Raiden huffed.

"And then you shocked me when I asked kindly not to hurt me," Lucius added.

"You were holding me, and being mean!" Raiden chimed. "Besides I apologize for shocking you by giving you a berry and allowing you to carry me back home."

"....You told me I was kidnapping you when I carried you back to the village because you decided to run on sore legs. I'm starting to think you're way more prone to leg violence than any other Jolteon," Lucius grumbled.

"Mean to me," Raiden huffed.

Random thought: Gold, being Johtonian, calls Pokemon by their Japanese names and such on the regular. Given he can also speak Galarian though (even if he’s rusty) he also knows what they’re called elsewhere.

I just don’t don’t have Gold use their Japanese names in my writing for my own sanity. Assume he is though!

they say that legendary pokémon will only reveal themselves to the worthy. fortunately for shinji, the legends that live amongst human beings are rarely quite so picky. this hardly means the trainer is at ease, however. despite the immense strength natsume is known to have when she is battling unrestrained, shinji still feels a familiar shame grip at his shoulders as he approaches the stadium. that he should have to resort to this when men such as takuto – hell, jindai, for fuck’s sake could command multiple such legendary beings… he finds himself at odds with a mythology ready to kick him square in the face. surely, he can’t be worse than these men. surely, he’s merely been having an incredible feat of bad luck.

a lie that would be a lot easier to believe if he had much faith in lady luck, either.

shinji is stiff, as he always is, when he steps through the doors of the stadium. he’s here for his appointment, he informs the staff – he had arranged it with lady natsume weeks ago, and though the days had dragged on for an eternity at a time, a second later he had dared to blink, and now he’s meeting the elite face to fucking face.

his shoulders tighten yet again as he steps out onto the pitch, but this time there is no one to bark instructions at; just a woman who appears to stare through his eyes and into the parts of him that even he hasn’t begun to unpack yet. it’s the kinda shit that shinji always finds most unsettling about psychics – friendly or otherwise – and though bowing gives him a brief excuse to look away and try to arrange his face in such a way that doesn't look as though he needs to know just what she’s seen in and thought of him, this reprieve only lasts but a second, and shinji is forced to clear his throat when he resurfaces to properly greet her.

“lady natsume. thank you for having me. i assume we’re still on for our match?”

uncomfortable though he might be, shinji has long since gotten used to minding his manners in spite of his personal needs. he truly has no reason to bear any ill will toward a woman who so graciously accepted his challenge – particularly given her rumored distaste for battling to begin with. the magnitude of the favor isn’t lost on shinji; but he does still struggle to express gratitude just as much as the next emotion…

so there they stand: two dead-eyed quiet types who are only here for one thing. small talk clearly is not going to be a part of the picture. shinji nods in affirmation and starts thumbing the pokéballs for the pokémon he plans to begin with in his pocket. slowly but surely, kanto is starting to catch up to the technological advancements of the regions around it; and so a modest rotom in pokédex forme flies between the two sides to dictate the match.

‘BOTH PARTIES SHALL RELEASE THEIR POKEMON ON THE COUNT OF THREE,’ it instructs; and to that end, it begins its countdown. ‘ONE, TWO, THREE, GO!!’

just the slightest squeeze reaffirms the choices made before shinji announces them: “gängar! ringuma! standby for battle!”

A very casual mention, as if he's not quite literally talking about a legendary as if it's truly an everyday event. "Which one gets to go first?" First. Because he knows both Satoshi and himself too well, knows they're both just as eager as the 'mons themselves, itching to fight tooth and nail— Volkner's far too used to fighting as if his life itself is still on the line to give it up now.

That should count as a birthday gift, right?

the  words  need  a  second  to  sink  into  satoshi’s  head,  but  once  they  do,  their  impact  is  instantly  visible,  eliciting  an  excited  intake  of  breath,  pikachu  mirroring  the  literal  rise  in  interest  by  standing  up  from  its  perch  on  satoshi’s  head.     “   which  one  gets  to  go  first ??   ”          ❛     do  you  even  have  to  ask ??    ❜

the  air  around  them  all  but  buzzes  with  pikachu's  electricity,  small  yet  mighty  paws  balled  up  into  fists  before  it,  in  turned  mirrored  by  satoshi  raising  his  own  fists  in  determination.          ❛     electric  versus  electric  ;     attack  at  will.     you  know  we  gotta  start  with  a  bang.     ❜          he  feels  a  short  burst  of  halfway  petty  aura  from  lucario  still  in  its  ball,  a  light - hearted   “   lose  so  i  can  go  up  against  it  next   ”   directed  at  pikachu,  that  makes  satoshi’s  grin  deepen  just  a  touch.     oh,  the  second  he  sees  an  opening  for  it,  he  is  giving  the  man  the  biggest  ringuma  hug  ever.

This is another thing I mean when I say “If anyone would like to help with this project in any way” I have already started to message a translator for work on some specific clips. It is going to cost to me so I have to pick and choose. So if someone does have something not on this list and knows a translator or anything that could be of some help and lower my bill it would be greatly appreciated. I want this so much for myself so thats why I will do some translations out of pocket but when I do have translated clips I will be posting them for your benefit too. So if anyone wants to help.. please do message me. Maybe you have something i’m not aware of already translated or on the back burner and if so I would really appreciate hearing about it :)

If somehow I actually had the SUBS for specific scenes in my possession I would do all the editing and embed them into the clips themselves. Even if they are just written translations it would be helpful.

Time lost me! I meant to reply to this earlier but got distracted... and by now it is late enough that I could queue it for the morning.

5: Stupidest injury I have given... once I was traveling in a cave and almost tripped over a Isitsubute. However, instead of falling, I caught myself and instead punted the poor thing across the cavern. (I made sure it was fine.)

6: I would battle the Ringuma. I am confident that I would be able to avoid its attacks (it is rather slow) and strike it in turn. Wild Pokemon do not have the same knowledge of combat that trained Pokemon do. And I have wrestled and won against people of roughly the same build as a Ringuma.

9: Nifuun could fit my entire head in his mouth. Chomp.
