Extella Events or as I like to call it Rin is the only one in the group with brain cells. 1: Rin goes with Hakuno to the Moon Cell Core when the Moon Cell calls Hakuno. No way she is letting her girlfriend walk back to a possible death by herself. She will fight the Moon Cell if she has to.

2: When Hakuno gets the Regalia and accepts the role as Sovereign, the first thing she jokingly says is if she marries Rin, then Rin can become the actual Queen of the Moon (referencing the CCC cut stuff with Rin announcing herself as Queen of the Moon and wearing that outfit we only have rough designs for), Rin gets flustered, calls Hakuno an idiot, secretly screaming with glee on the inside.

3: Rin immediately doesn't trust Archimedes. Guy was apparently an admin for the Moon Cell yet didn't even know or acted when Twice hijacked the Grail War for his own purpose and now appears conveniently after Hakuno gets the Regalia, spouting off this stuff about needing to go deal with the Anti-Cell sealed within a space called the Zero Dark and that she isn't allowed to come along. Hakuno, of course, agrees to go and asks Rin to head back and keep an eye on Nero and Tamamo while she is away dealing with this. Rin, reluctantly agrees and returns to where they left Nero and Tamamo only to find the two on the verge of trying to kill each other and splitting off and going off to do their own thing. Que Rin having to knock sense into both of them and, in the process, avoiding the whole SE.RA.PH. civil war plot of Extella (because screw that plotline. It was dumb and ultimately went nowhere by the end.)

4: When Hakuno splits herself into 3, Rin gets the rings that would have gone to Nero and Tamamo, ends up with two unconscious Hakunos on her hands, nearly has a tsun-lesbian disaster moment, figures out what happened and puts the regalia and Hakuno back together, and Hakuno, upon awakening, is able to explain what happened, confirming Rin's suspicions about Archimedes being sus.

5. The group then spends the time that would have been wasted fighting the stupid civil war and instead rounding up servants, many who are familiar faces with only Medusa being the new servant amongst the group, though Rin swears the woman seems familiar for some reason, all while dealing with the Zero Dark forces and the servants Altera has gotten to work for her. End of Part 1 of this story boarding of Extella, will get back to this once I think of how to handle the rest of the Extella plot.

Rulers of the Moon AU idea/format: Extella Zero

Follows the Extella Zero with a few exceptions:

1: Hakuno doesn’t waste her command seals on saving Tamamo and Tamamo decides to stick around afetr Atrum’s death with the catch being she can’t fight less Hakuno gets disqualified and deleted.

2: Hakuno uses her command seals to save Rin and Rani i.e. the cut option from Extra where you could save Rin/Rani during the 6th round so long as you hadn’t used your second command seal.

3: NPC Shirano (Male Hakuno) loses against Leo and Gawain during the 6th round but disable’s Gawain’s numeral of the saint skill in the process. Doesn’t feel right to have Leo just be killed during the 6th round and have the final battle just be Hakuno vs Shirano.

and Finally 4: Rin remains on the Moon while Rani returns to Earth to find and wake the Living Hakuno. Rin is there when Hakuno returns from the Moon Cell Core alive and the four head off to explore the new SE.RA.PH.

It's going around a bit (initially this was going to be an ask for @hasarjunadoneanythingwrong and then it got too long, and er sorry for the ping, your post just got me thinking a lot) but I think a lot of people are missing the point when it comes to why people complain about the lack of bisexuality in fate. It's not like everyone is completely ignorant to Rin's bisexual awakening in fsn, or you being able to go full Yuri with Nero in Extella. It's moreso that while type/moon are able to handle girl/girl just fine, they are seemingly completely unwilling to approach any male/male romances in a serious way. It's not that bisexual women aren't bisexual, that's stupid to say. But if you have an equal number of male and female servants, and have plenty of bisexual or even lesbian girls, as a bisexual male I am allowed to be disappointed by the complete lack of the opposite.

They never overtly say anything homophobic, but they do literally everything they can do avoid outright mentioning male/male pairings. They have never mentioned Patroclus, despite him being a major part of not just Achilles, but the Illiad as a whole, all while adding Penthisaela as an entire character. The only canon 'yaoi' pairing (Gil x Enkidu, and I say yaoi loosely) made sure to have Enkidu simultaneously be non-binary and take on the appearance of a woman. They quite literally demoted Nameless to side character due to Extella being more focused on romance. There's a whole bunch of minor stuff easy to miss as well, like, has anyone ever wondered why exactly they added the Trung Sisters as is, but felt the need to genderbend Pollux?

I could rant on more and more, but I think it's easy to point to one in-game event as being emblematic of what I mean, Valentines. Nearly every girl has an overtly or at least implicitly romantic valentines, comes with the territory. It doesn't change or matter if you're playing as Gudako or Gudao, it all stays the same, especially with early servants where it's just "teehee it's valentines day/oh it's valentines day" depending on how tsundere there are, they hand you chocolate, and then blush.png, they are never afraid to imply or outwardly say that at the very least Carmilla finds you cute.

Compare that to male valentines scenes, where genuinely I think there are less than 10 with any romantic vibes. A grand majority of them are closer to friendship than anything, and play out more like mini-interludes. And even of the ones that are romantic, much less than overt about it. Is Saito maybe being romantic when he says he wants to take you away from Chaldea and live alone? Probably. Is Taigong Wang trying to imply something when he takes you to the same river he took his wife too? Probably. Are they ever going to outwardly say it? Absolutely not, at least not when they're trying to take it seriously.

As you mentioned previously characters like Fergus and Bartholomew are the only exceptions, because yeah they'll call you hot and offer to fuck but that's because they want to fuck literally anything (anything with bangs for the latter), the joke is they're so horny it transcends sexuality. Genuinely the only male that comes to mind with a full on, "I have feelings for you" played straight is Oda Kippoushi (and even his gender situation is... Weird? Just a bit). Mori comes close, but even his ends with him looking at you as more of a friend, and quickly skirts away from topics of romance.

In fact, this disparity between male and female servants can be easily seen in Kid Gil's interlude of all things. In it he mentions a waterpark he was creating, and then you two fantasize about the type of servants there

It's played completely straight, just a bunch of summer servants that you and Gil fawn over. Immediately after, he starts rambling about how while he doesn't swing that way, there are all kinds of people at the park

And to show this off they... Turn it into a joke. Edison and Blackbeard as there. Compared to a bunch of servant girls fawning over you it's a bunch of men (none of which even had summer skins at the time), talking about working out and growing food, with Blackbeard yelling about how it's a bunch of servants with no story significance.

However, the absolute worst part is what Gudao can say in response to the fantasies. With the girls you get a single one, that you love the idea of it.

With the men however, you get two options, "hey that doesn't sound too bad" in which Gil just kinda disagrees and then moves on to the end. And then one where you literally outloud show your disgust towards the male choice, Gil scolds you for making him think of it, and he bans all adult men from the pools. I never really think of it but this is probably one of the most homophobic scenes in fgo lmao.

Regardless, the whole point of this was moreso that as a bisexual man myself, these kinds of things do kind of lodge themselves into my brain. Nobody has to like yaoi or anything, that's ridiculous, but when they go out of there way so often to avoid outright showing anything homosexual... It kind of just hurts. Even just a singular gay man would be nice, even if it probably would just be a joke about how they want to slobber on muscles or love femboys something. But there just... Isn't, there's a few vaguely implied mentions of gay men or bisexual men, but they will never expand on it or show it off to the same degree as they do with women, and I just wish there was more of it.

I still have a bit left in CCC and I haven't done Sakura route, so take my opinion with that grain of salt.

That said, it has been nagging at me some. Why exactly is the full ending locked behind romancing Sakura of all characters?

Like, let's put aside the obvious point that Haku is going to be naturally drawn to their servant, as the person they are closest to throughout the story - an issue even the original Stay Night was concious of, given that Saber and Shirou are seperated in UBW and HF. But let's assume you get a platonic setup with your servant. Say you don't pick Nero or Tama and go with male Haku and Gilgamesh or Nameless. That puts that out of the equation.

But even then, why Sakura? Sure, she's a major support character, but nothing about her particularly stands out, aside from sharing a face with the main antagonist. Nothing about her role in the story or her interactions with Haku seem noteworthy. There were a few scenes of them bonding, I guess, but without that she'd be if anything less relevant than some of the other major support characters (ie, Rin, Rani, Leo, etc)

I get VN tradition of having story elements tied to your chosen love interest, and I get also that there is some element of replayability and thrill in discovering a hidden path by making select choices. And I get, given Nasu's retconning and Extella doing something similar with Nero, it isn't like I can complain it's biased to Sakura.

But that's not my criticism here - it's just that the idea of a Haku x Sakura romance feels so forced in a way that pairing Haku with Nero, Tama, or even Rin/Rani (in the OG Extra, at least) doesn't. And it would be one thing if it was just a fanservice option, another to make it mandatory to seeing the full story.

And if people think I'm overblowing just how swamp AO4 is with Hakuno x Gil stories in comparison to Hakuno x Nero, Hakuno x Tamamo, or even Hakuno x EMIYA stories in my reblog rant earlier, let me show you just how bad it is.

This was taken the day of this post and, at that time, even if you combined stories that include the tags, Hakuno x Nero, Hakuno x Tamamo, and Hakuno x EMIYA together, they would total in a little over a half of what stories have just Hakuno x Archer Gil. This isn't even taking into account Caster Gil x Hakuno stories. Even worse, this is with non Hakuno x character tags filtered out. You wanna know something funny? The fact is, when searching for works that have Hakuno as a tag, there is literally more works that use the Cu x Rin tag than there are Hakuno x Tamamo.

Point is: it's been over a decade since Extra came out and a decade this year since CCC came out. The fandom has spoken in regards to how popular Hakuno x the Extra servants are and giving them more screen time in Extra Record, if the interviews are to be true, will not fix things unless Nero, Tamamo, and EMIYA all get fundamental character changes, which may end up alienating current fans of the characters.

Feel free to respond with agreement, disagrement, or a rating of spicy level.

1) "All routes are canon" is often just a "get out of jail free card" for retcons and/or canonical issues.

The original visual novel stuck to all routes being equal, but both Extraverse and especially Grand Order treat some events as canon and others as not. The fandom is aware of this on some level too as the discourse often also puts some routes above others.

2) Altera's route was the worst of the four in Fate/Extella.

Her pairing with Hakuno was extremely wierd, her two forms felt disconnected, and seeing her outright kill everyone else didn't endure sympathy.

3) Nero was the best part of Extella, she is very sympathetic and wholesome there.

And no, she's not flawless. She's shown to be jealous, melodramatic, self-absorbed, and insensitive to varying degrees. She just lets her love for Hakuno overshadow those traits.

4) Mordred is either cis or some kind of non-binary.

She isn't trans, and that scene from Apocrypha is taken out of context.

5) Nero, Hakuno, and Tama aren't poly in Extella True/ExLink. Nero and Hakuno are together and Tama is a third wheel.

Hakuno not telling Tamamo off - which anime protagonists seem reluctant to do at the best of times - doesn't mean they are an item when Hakuno shows no interest in Tama. ExLink is especially blatant here in a few scenes - Tama is basically the Luvia of Nero and Hakuno.

6) Shirou x Sakura was better in the movies than in the visual novel.

In the VN, Shirou seemed to still like Rin half the time. In the movie Sakura was actually his full focus.

7) Shirou x Saber makes no sense as a pairing.

Shirou is a random Japanese teenager, Saber is the ghost of a King of Britain who had a tense relationship with Shirou's idol, Kiritsugu. It feels very forced.

(And if people point out the hypocrisy of my liking NeroHaku in turn, well, Extraverse is far less grounded so it doesn't stick out so much).

8) Fate/Zero is the best Fate entry. The only flaw it has is being a bad representation of the series as a whole.

Perhaps more minty than some of these, but I know some people are hardcore against this take.

9) Fate/Zero also has the best iteration of Artoria.

People complain about inconsistencies with her personality and motives. Personally, I don't care because she's better written in Zero. Zero actually treats her gender as a key part of her character rather than an excuse to waifu her.

Also, both Shirou and Iskandar are sexist towards Artoria. The difference is she falls in love with Shirou for it.

10) The UBW anime explains Shirou just fine if you're paying attention.

A lot of people act like the UBW anime doesn't give proper context and makes Shirou look stupid. It's not as good as the VN in that regard, naturally, but it does the job well.
