#1 What is a Mystery?

According to Webster’s 1828 Dictionary:

MYS'TERY, noun [Latin mysterium; Gr. a secret. This word in Greek is rendered also murium latibulum; but probably both senses are from that of hiding or shutting; Gr. to shut, to conceal.

1. A profound secret; something wholly unknown or something kept cautiously concealed, and therefore exciting curiosity or wonder; such as the mystery of the man with the iron mask in France.

2. In religion, any thing in the character or attributes of God, or in the economy of divine providence, which is not revealed to man.

3. That which is beyond human comprehension until explained.

The Apostle Paul was saved on the road to Damascus (Acts 9). God chose Paul to communicate to the Gentiles a gloriously new thing and commissioned him to  a very important mission.  This was something that God had never done before in the history of humankind.  It had been kept secret since the world began, but now was to be made known to all men for the purpose of salvation. 

Going forward, this blog is about that mystery and the amazing age of Grace that we live in today where God offers salvation to all people who understand and believe this mystery. 

It’s possible that if you attend a mainstream church, you will not hear this important message emphasized on a regular basis.  

I didn’t!

I have been a Christian for more than 40 years and it wasn’t until recently that I learned the importance of knowing the mystery of the Grace of God through our Lord Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.  

I invite you to follow this blog and learn along with me as we seek the wisdom of God made known through the work of the cross and the glorious resurrection that makes our salvation possible.

Ephesians 3:8-11

#2 God is a secret keeper!

“…according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began” Rom. 16:25

How many times have you read this verse and thought about it?  I mean really thought about it?  God kept a secret from all of mankind, for a special purpose, until just the right time!  I don’t know about you, but it’s hard for me to keep a secret for even a few days. Not God!

When you read the Old Testament you’ll find that God always told his people what he was doing or going to do…from Adam to Noah…Abraham to Moses…throughout the entire history of his people, Israel…from David to John the Baptist, and even up and through Christ’s resurrection, people knew (or should have known) what was going on, because it had been written and they could check it by studying the scriptures. By the way, that’s called prophecy.  Prophecy is not a secret or a mystery.  Remember that!  It’s important to keep them separate.  

But this mystery Paul speaks of…this is something that has never been mentioned by God before, in all of scripture, to anyone, until he revealed it to Paul; God’s chosen vessel.  (Acts 9:15)
