Seifert's Croydon landmark set to be converted into 250 flats

In the 1960s, Space House in London garnered attention for the innovative use of a precast concrete grid.
This is a form of partial prefabrication that allowed for rapid construction without scaffolding, as well as for striking visual effects.
Space House replaced an existing Edwardian building on the site. It was designed by Richard Seifert and Partners.
Space House (now Civil Aviation Authority House), London | Grade II listed.

The great green office crunch
The great green office crunch
When FW Woolworth appointed Richard Seifert to design its new London headquarters, both retailer and architect were on the path to pre-eminence. Woolworths opened its 1,000th UK store soon after construction on the Marylebone block started in 1957; Seifert went on to design Centre Point, one of London’s first skyscrapers.
