If we had a nickel for every time Demi said “I don’t normally like enemies to lovers, but…”, we’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?

Twitter is a mistake... This week, Emily and V delve into the sordid, racist behavior of Reylos (Rey/Kylo Ren shippers) towards John Boyega (Finn) in the wake of Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker, and how they weaponized their white femininity to excuse their actions. This is a tough, emotional topic, but the episode also explores just why Star Wars makes people so uniquely insane, possible reasons Disney fumbled TROS so badly, and that Kelly Marie Tran is an absolute treasure. Plus, an interlude about the terrible ending of The Baby-Sitters' Club canon. This episode would not be possible without the work of Stitch at Stitch's Media Mix for preserving tweets, Instagram comments, and videos related to the treatment of John, so special thank-you to Stitch.

Genuine question here, I know there's been discussion on this blog (and on fandom tumblr in general!) about how it's shitty to refer to entertainment mediums as "content." I was not aware that this was a faux pas, and not to be completely stupid, but like, what's the alternative? yeah if you're doing something SPECIFIC (ie reading a book, listening to music) you should probably use those specific words anyway, but genuinely, what's a good umbrella term for "listening to music/podcasts AND reading AND watching films/shows/theatre AND playing games AND AND AND"...
(not "and" as in "doing all of those at the same time", but moreso an inclusive word that serves as an umbrella term.)
My main hobby is fandom, like most people here. Maybe I'm just a lazy POS but oftentimes it's legit easier for me to just say something like "wow, i have a great taste in content" when thinking about how awesome my interests are.
Is it ok to say "media" instead of "content"? I know a lot of people also don't like the word "consuming", but genuinely, what is a good word that can mean reading OR writing OR playing a game OR watching to something OR listening to something OR other things that I'm forgetting?
Cannot believe I am here, in the middle of my workday/workweek, asking a question about the political correctness of how to refer to fandom-ing, but, yeah! It's just that I truly do not know what a catch-all term for "doing an activity that involves some form of pop culture/the entertainment industry/etc" that isn't just...'media consumption.'
--
This depends on the exact context. If you combine 'consume' with 'media' in most contexts, people will find that relatively neutral. There are plenty of times that 'content' will also sound neutral...
But in a lot of specific contexts, combining 'consume' with 'content' will sound like influencer drivel.
Try not to sound like those clowns selling other people's Reylo fanfic on Etsy and you'll be fine.

Alright so Charles Soule’s new post-TLJ comic just dropped and people are freaking out that LF finally acknowledged that Kylo/Ben fell in love with Rey. They think that because they actually used the L word that they’re bringing Ben back. And are now assuming that because Adam doesn’t have any projects lined up next year and that DR advised that an update is coming soon for the Rey movie. They’re bringing him back. Plus Soule stated in a podcast in 2020 that despite Ben becoming “all powerful” when he died, he couldn’t be with Rey. They learned nothing from The Acolyte being axed.
Tumblr media
I mean, I guess I get some people are glad it was apparently flat out stated but I don't... I don't really get it. It was 100% clear reylo was canon and the delusional antis still trying to argue it wasn't are never going to admit they were wrong now. We got as much genuine vindication as we're ever going to get when TLJ came out and the normies realised we were right. Now that the story has been destroyed, it's never going to have an uncomplicated authority again. Tros has irrevocably splintered the canon by being so obviously a checklist of pandering and retcons, so even the only two structural narrative promises of the ST it actually paid off (Ben's redemption and romantic reylo) are tainted with terrible execution.
There's zero risk or committent in acknowledging Ben is in love with Rey. That's why we got his POV of their last scene in the tie-ins. They have killed him and the legacy of real SW he represented, buried it, and salted the earth. If they actually wanted to throw us rats a tiny brittle bone, they'd be emphasising and making more explicit that Rey, Ms Brand Avatar, is in love with him. But watch them never do that.
People are setting themselves up for more disappointment by expecting anything from DLF

It really feels like to me that they should have given Galadriel more complicated feelings about Sauron in S2. It was the perfect time for them to have "mind palace" scenes, where he manipulates her from afar and she's drawn to him and the power he offers. Now she fully hates him and is no longer drawn to that darkness and will instead become a perfect and pure Mormon princess. She's moving away from the sword and will soon reunite with her husband and she won't be tainted by darkness because she never crossed that line with Sauron. It makes me sad, but it's what will happen.
Sorry anon, I think they made a great job in season 2 at showing her complicated feelings for him, personally. We saw her remisniscing of the day they shared their feelings and almost kissed (yes, I'm sure it would have happened if the Numenorean guy hadn't interrupted them) straight after telling Elrond she couldn't let him in again. Then during her discussion with Adar, she basically said that without Sauron, her life was only "a dull gray", I mean... I was actually amazed that they made her feelings for him so explicit! I didn't expect it at all.
Regarding this "mind palace" thing, I must say It keeps confusing me. We haven't been shown any evidence that Sauron was able to mentally talk to anyone before the end of season 2, let alone from a distance. The only "mind palace stuff" we saw was him casting illusions based on the other person's personal memories, and it always happened when the person was present next to him. The end of their fight was actually the first time we saw Sauron mind talking to Galadriel, or anyone else. Maybe, if the bond theory is correct, he was able to do this thanks to their newly formed bond; he may be able to cast an illusion from a distance so he can not only talk mentally to her, but also appear physically before her, I don't know, but so far there was no indication that he could do that. I know this ship is constantly compared to Reylo for reasons I don't quite understand except that they're both built around the concept of light vs darkness, but their connection is widely different from what Rey and Kylo shared, it is not a Force bond kind of thing. Whatever the writers do in season 3 regarding their connection, I think they'll handle it differently.
As for Galadriel becoming a "perfect and pure Mormon princess", well first Galadriel was never that in the books... And considering that Patrick McKay said "for now..." when Morfydd said that Galadriel was getting closer to the light, it seems to me that it was a hint that she was far from becoming Third Age Galadriel, the Lady of Light who vainquished for good her temptation for darkness. In an interview post season 2, they also said that Galadriel was only halfway through her Lady of Light arc (I'm sorry I can't provide the source, I've read on Reddit and they didn't mention where this information cam from. I assume it was from a podcast.), meaning she hasn't gotten there yet.
As for Celeborn, there's also no indication that he'll appear anytime soon, and it's not him who will singlehandly prevent Sauron from reaching for Galadriel's mind, anyway.
Okay I'm done answering asks involving Celeborn now :)

How to Bite Your Neighbor and Win a Wager by D.N. Bryn is a gay vampire romance I enjoyed (has plot and a couple other books after it)
Then the Honey Badger Chronicles by Shelly Laurenston are really fun shifter but are straight and a little repetitive (Tons of fun ideas, but I didn't enjoy trying to pick up her other books as much)
If you want a Yuri manga romance Run Away with Me Girl by Battan has no fantastical elements but is very good story
Aaaaaaand if you are looking for more recommendations then Kingdom of Thirst is a podcast that talks about romance books
Was perplexed by this ask also before I realized it was probably in response to my complaint about all the reylo reskins.
To be clear, I do not seek out romance to read personally. I work at a library and finalize collection development decisions, so I farm out genre recs to my romance reading-coworkers since I'm not a good judge. (We're a college but we're buying more fiction these days because hey, at least something circulates.) However I suppose I can investigate these titles as potential additions to our collection. They look more like one of my other coworker's cup of tea, so I'll ask her about them.

*This is a recording of the live panel Rachael recorded with Marie-Claire of What the Force and Laurie, an emerging screenwriter and director - on the Fan Stage at Star Wars Celebration Europe. Rachael has recorded a special intro and outro for the recording.*
The Force Awakens begins with a single line: “This will begin to make things right.” As we approach ten years since the sequel trilogy began, this panel looks at how the sequels expand upon and intersect with the mythological underpinnings of the first two trilogies. In particular, we will focus on how the story of Rey and Kylo Ren tests the boundaries between right and wrong, bringing fresh perspectives to a saga known for its binary morality.
This panel is hosted by Rachael of the Scavenger’s Hoard podcast. She is joined by Marie-Claire of What the Force?, and Laurie Kirwan-Ashman, an emerging screenwriter and director.

Looking for new content? Here's a list of CCs I like while I procrastinate cleaning my room
I will go from most popular to least and maybe you'll find something you are interested in. Kinda long so I added read more.
DougDoug - needs no introduction as he is very popular, I recently started watching his videos because a student vouched for him and while I can see why kids will like his challenge videos, I also find his content very entertaining. Especially while you eat dinner. Big fan of his zelda content. Parkzer is an interesting side character.
Squeex - PLEASE. If you want to get into Squeex start with his beating every mario kart game video. It's a good introduction and you can go from there. Please.
Linkus7 - My favorite Zelda runner as of late, I consider him a part of a triangle consisting of PointCrow, Smallant, and him. Though, he is lesser known within the greater sphere of twitch. His randomizers are the most fun in my opinion. I try to save his recent vods when I can, as he doesnt save them anymore.
Sambucha - STOP he makes like lowkey mindless kids content videos but I'm like obsessed with him for some reason. One of my students forced me to watch his "beating the easiest world records" video and I was immediately enthralled. He makes content thats easy to listen to while you draw. But I'm sure you can do other things with it on in the background.
Sturniolo Triplets - Content that is popular with teen girls, but I'm still obsessed for some reason. I just love people who have a good relationship just hang out together. Podcast vibes. Nick is the funniest. CONS: Chris is a queerbaiter at heart, though he is in a youtube group with his brothers. Hmm. Cant be doing that here.
Stephanie Soo - Mukbang true crime girl. I loved her video in high school and I would always put on her videos while I was in painting II - III or drawing. Too bad I cant watch her anymore because too much true crime makes me too paranoid. If you like true crime shes an easy watch, keeps thing friendly and accessible. I love her and her husbands relationship.
Trin Lovell - Reviews movies and by far my favorite movie watcher on youtube. Her editing is really funny and quippy. She got popular from watching best and worse riverdale and glee episodes (shes a big glee fan). my favorite videos from her are where hands touch and skinamarink. I have gained many new phrases from her.
StephenPlays - Smaller youtuber whos been in the game for like fifteen years. He is very chill and does letsplays with his friends and wife. I recommend his twilight princess and mario kart play throughs (featuring his wife Mal).
Any Austin - one of my fav youtubers ever and I've been a fan of him for 11 years now. He basically shaped my humor as a kid and I recommend his eggbusters series to get started. He had a letsplay channel called Two People Playing Games with his friend Aysha that sadly disbanded as they became too busy in their lives to keep up with it. Austin has done a lot of content over the years and recently is getting big for is "calculating the unemployment level of ___" keep this on the DL but if you ever want any privated videos I know a guy.
The Fisher - MAGNET FISHING
People you may have heard of, but made never checked out! My vouch:
Drew Gooden - Obviously. Funniest commentary youtuber. If you haven't watched him what are you doing?
Jenny Nicholson - I got into beef with her in 2019 (i think) when everyone was making fun of her for being a Reylo and she blocked me. I still like her commentary videos. Especially for background noise. My acc she blocked me on was suspended.
Johnny's Communication Center -
Sinjin Drowning - theyre snakes and lowkey the azealia banks of I guess roblox content bc thats all they do anymore but I'll be damned if I'm not CACKLING at them. They have a trail of destroyed friendships as long as the empire state building behind them.
