Cole Porter's show, The New Yorkers, billed as a "Sociological Musical Satire," opened at B.S. Moss's Broadway Theater on December 8, 1930, and ran until the following May 2, after 168 performances. Ann Pennington and Jimmy Durante were in the cast.

This was the sheet music for one of the show's hit songs, "Love for Sale." As it dealt explicitly with prostitution, it caused a minor scandal, and some radio stations refused to play it. Due to the complaints, Porter shifted the setting of the song in the musical to the Cotton Club in Harlem, where it was sung by an African-American, Elisabeth Welch, instead of the original white singer, Kathryn Crawford.

Several hundred young women applied for places in the Beauties of History tableaux, August 8, 1921. It was planned as part of the Moulin Rouge Show that season. The characters were Helen of Troy, Marie Antoinette, Cleopatra, Salome, and other famous beauties. Here, director Billy Arnold measures the legs of Jocelyn Stafford to see if they conform to those of Betty Wright, the "Queen of Sheba."
