I'm so happy because this is the first time I could make a more elaborate edit for my favorite Ed and character of all time! I love Double D with all my heart but I usually just have inspiration to make EddEddy or Eddy edits. Lately I've been really obsessed with this song and I've already made an edit with the original version. I thought Double D would fit more with the reversed version since it's more "tame" and I personally think it sounds more dramatic, and I decided to add the demo 4 too because it fucking slays. I just wanted to represent Double D's gradual mental breakdown due to his obsessive and neurotic nature.

Favourite books of 2024

Honestly, 2024 wasn't a highlight reading-wise. I have read 64 books, but there isn't a book that stood out as The Book of 2024, and my favourite reads of 2024 were rereads. That being said, here are 6 new books that I still enjoyed:

In no particular order:

1984 by George Orwell is the book that's been on my to-read list for over a decade. My cousin Bobbie started reading it in the summer, which finally motivated me to pick up a copy from the library. I don't think I can say a lot about 1984 that hasn't been said already, but I am glad that it did live up to the hype, so to say. It is a good book and unfortunately relevant, again. But also, has there ever been a time where it wasn't relevant?

Een echte ouder: Over queer ouderschap [A Real Parent: About Queer Parenting] by Eke Krijnen. I was a bit on the fence on whether I not I wanted to call this one of my favourite books, because I gave it a 3.75 on TheStoryGraph and I also don't think I will reread it. It was a bit boring to read, actually, but Eke's essays about queer parenthood have stayed with me ever since I read it, especially as an adoptee. The similarities between queer parenthood and adopted parenthood are strong and I have also spoken with others about this book. So I can't say it didn't leave a huge impression on me. I think the book should be read by more people.

Foul Lady Fortune and Foul Heart Huntsman by Chloe Gong are the 3rd and 4th books of the Secret Shanghai series. This series consists of two duets that can be standalone, and these two are the Foul Lady Fortune duet. It is still recommend to read the These Violent Delights duet first, since it is an extension. The Foul Lady Fortune books are a retelling of Shakespeare's As You Like It, but it's set in 1930s Shanghai, just before the civil war, and there's a supernatural element to it. Chloe Gong's blend of fantasy, YA, mystery and real history (with liberties taken, of course) intruiges me a lot, especially since we all know what happened to China in the 1940s.

Passivity: Between Indifference and Pacifism by Alexandra Tryanova and Pascal Gielen is a book I found in the library and took a chance on, and it's good. It's written and illustrated by an Ukrainian author with help from a Flemish author, and it looks at the reaction of the West towards the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As the title suggests, it's about the line between pacifism and passivity. The West doesn't want to send weapons because they want to keep the peace, but Ukrainians have no choice to fight. I found it an interesting book, because I love pacifism and wishes it would persevere in the face of the worst atrocities and it is an ideology I try to hold on to with all my might, but alas, is that doable? And reading the works of someone on the side of the attacked was a wake up slap.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins was an unexpected gem, because when it got announced, you bet your ass I rolled my eyes so hard. I am tired and fed up with the entertainment industry's obsession with sequels, prequels and remakes of older work. I was afraid this was a "die a hero, live long enough to become the villain" book for The Hunger Games series, especially when I heard it's "the origin story of the Big Bad", and many stories that try to Uno Reverse the story to make the bad guy the good guy fail in my eyes. But this book was brutal and a very smart deconstruction of how one of the most vile people in Panem's human history became the man he became and I am glad that the book tells that story, not a story that shows that Snow was secretly the good guy all along, or he couldn't help himself! No, this book is a very clear study on morality and how someone actively becomes a dictator and became power hungry. It was fun to read this while following a couse of social and political philosophy. The book opens with quotes from Hobbes' Leviathan, Locke's Two Treatises of Government and Rousseau's The Social Contract. In class, these three documents were discussed and how these ideas can be good, but also how they can be easily bent to allow power abuse. Wild coincidence. This book has also made me more excited for the upcoming Haymitch book, which will delve into another stream of political philosophy. Mrs. Collins knows what she's doing.
