Updates from the Editor's Desk
#RevPit 2024 Showcase and a master post for The Writer's Corner.
Hey Story Crafters,
The RevPit 2024 Showcase goes LIVE TODAY at noon/12 PM EDT! Come check out the hard work all the RevPit winners put into their query letters and first 5 pages: https://reviseresub.com/showcase
If you’re interested in learning about their RevPit experience, make sure to visit the #RevPitClassof24 thread on X/Twitter, where they responded to the prompts listed below:

As a first-time RevPit editor, the entire contest (from pre-contest events all the way up to the showcase) has been an exciting, rewarding experience. I really appreciate the RevPit Board for giving me the opportunity to participate as a RevPit editor, and I’ve enjoyed getting the chance to interact with both the other RevPit editors and all of the authors in the RevPit community, and working with my contest winner, Jacqui Culler (@CullerPictures)!
As many of us continue on our writing journeys, I thought I’d put together a master post of The Writer’s Corner posts that cover craft topics.

I haven’t heard of AuthorMentorMatch either but I thought RevPit was well known? Maybe these things are becoming less known due to Twitter not being as popular because it gave more visibility to those hashtags?
Eh, I'm sure it's well known in author circles, but truly, there are LOTS of things I haven't heard of. :-)
That's not an insult or a reflection of... um, anything, actually. (And I probably have HEARD of it, vaguely, in the sense that the words or hashtags have crossed my eyes in the past -- but I've never investigated it, I don't personally have knowledge about it beyond 'it's an author thing'. )

Hi! I saw your post about querying and found it very informative and insightful. In your query letter, you mentioned being mentored. What's a good way to seek mentoring?
So, I was mentored through two formal programs, both of which have closed up shop. (It's hard to run all-volunteer programs, and the women running each one also had a writing career, and eventually, the thing that made the money had to win because of capitalism.) But while Pitch Wars and AMM have gone away, other free programs exist! In general, these run once a year. You'll want to make note of the dates and be ready to apply whenever they roll around.
RevPit: https://www.reviseresub.com/
Write Mentor: https://write-mentor.com/mentoring-programme-summer/
Write Hive: https://writehive.org/writehive-mentorship-program/
I found PW and AMM by being on Twitter, and I think Twitter and IG are probably the best places to follow the programs that pop up for aspiring writers.
THAT SAID, you don't need a mentoring program. They're really sort of a one-way critique partner who's also gone some baseline industry knowledge. The best critique partners I've had have all been people I just slowly built relationships with over time, where we just read each other's stuff and got to a place of knowing what the other person was trying to achieve and feeling comfortable being honest. I think I was in two or three discord writing groups before I found one where the group's vibe and my vibe were similar. It can take a while to find people who are at the same place that you are career-wise who you also like, but it's worth it to keep looking.

I MISS YOU!!!!
I miss you too!!! All of you!
If I haven't been around it's because I've joined an art collective in my small town and I'm trying to get together my exhibit. And I'm working on my space opera again. And I just got a new ghostwriting project. And I'm dealing with my kids health and school issues. And my own health issues. And I applied for a working parent-artist grant. And I am doing #revpit on twitter with Moonshine and I already know that one of the editors is considering it for her final pick, because she post my query in her #10queries where they anonymously share advice based on the submissions.
So I'm pretty busy right now. I've fallen behind on my The100 rewatch and on s2 of Shadow and Bone. Sorry. But I'm still here. If you send me an ask, I will make time for it.

AAAA! Tomorrow, RevPit’s editors are reading query letters and first pages and guess who got chosen to be critiqued? Hoping my poor, fragile soul isn’t crushed by what they say

#RevPit Vs The Shiny New MS
My new WIP is so shiny! And my #amquerying MS is not! #RevPit #WritingCommunity
There are two things going on at the moment. One is Camp Nano, which I mentioned previously as a motivation tool to work on the roadtrip story. That story wants to be told. it’s funny, its sexy, its holding my interest and is mostly fleshed out. I enjoy writing it! Two mobsters walk into a bar…
The other thing is #RevPit- and that is a little more fraught. As a quick summary: it’s an editing…

Updates from the Editor's Desk
✨A brief announcement!
Hi Story Crafters,
A short post this time!
The biggest news I have to share is that the #RevPit 2024 winners will be announced today, Monday, April 15 at noon (12 p.m.) ET! 🎉🥳
Tumblr media
A big thank you to everyone who participated this year! There were SO MANY amazing submissions, it was hard to narrow the selection down to one finalist and one runner-up. I managed to do it…somehow.
Please remember that if you weren’t chosen, it’s not a reflection on your ability as an author. It just means that your book may need more work that the time frame allows, or it’s ready for querying.
You’re all amazing writers and I look forward to seeing where you take your books!
I’m currently busy with client work and prepping for my #RevPit winner, so no craft thoughts today. I’ll have more for you next time!
Also, if I gave feedback on your query letter + first 5 pages during my 10Queries sessions, you can expect an email from me by this weekend! Keep an eye out for it!
And, as always, if you’ve got a finished manuscript and you’re looking for an editor, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
Send me an email!
Until next time!
Best,
Leah

hi jenn <3 hope you're well! just wondering, when someone queries you with a manuscript that's gone through an editing/mentoring program like RevPit or AuthorMentorMatch, does that hold any weight for how you consider it? thanks!!
Nope! I mean it's fine to mention, or not, but it wouldn't make me like something I don't like, or not like something I do like. It's all about the work itself.
And honestly, I can't keep up with all the mentoring programs, workshops, competitions and the like that exist. I haven't actually heard of those, so they wouldn't hold any weight.*** It just would make me think "oh, that's nice, they are putting themselves out there and learning the craft, etc" -- but nothing more serious than that.
Now: IF IT HAPPENS that you are involved in a mentor scheme of some kind and I KNOW THE MENTOR -- like, it's one of my beloved clients or a friend or a writer I really admire -- THAT might make me perk up, because I likely trust that person's judgement, so if they think your work is ready to query, I'd be intrigued. However, again, it's not going to sway me or be a make-or-break by any means.
*** (I'm not saying they are BAD or anything at all! They are probably fantastic. But they are author-forward, not agent-forward, I personally don't know what it is, so it doesn't have particular meaning for me.)

Holy Sh*tballs
Yesterday, writers were submitting pitches on Twitter with the hopes that an agent / agency liked their tweet. It aligns a writer’s manuscript with an interested agent versus having to research hundreds of agents to see which ones would like your story. I was up early… too early, and I scheduled my pitches to hit at certain times throughout the day. Then, I started my normal…

This week, we had family visit, so I didn’t get to revise very much. I’m still aiming for March 31 to finish this revision, but if I can finish by April 10 (the date #revpit submissions open!), I’ll be doing good. What are you working on this weekend? https://www.instagram.com/p/CM7p7k7A4IT/?igshid=3azohgy87ql5

Did you hear my dark YA fantasy has a new title? (graphic designed by the amazing Hollie Caddock). ‘After inheriting the ability to control fate itself, outlaw storyteller Alena must evade the Tsar’s imperial army or risk imprisonment at his hands.’
