If multiple options technically apply, pick whichever one feels like the root cause of why you can't vote. Like if you're not a citizen because of your gender, race, or place of residence within the country, then I would pick the disenfranchised option.
#poll#voting rights poll#very curious what edge cases I missed#it's possible multiple of these may apply#like citizenship restriction could be caused by disenfranchisement due to gender race or place of residence#in that case pick the one you feel is the root cause

The next person who says something to me about “don’t worry about citizenship when you move to Canada because Trump will make sure it becomes our next state” owes me, someone who has actually studied international relations and global conflict, a minimum of 50 USD
#do you really believe a sovereign nation is really gonna just let that happen. truly. genuinely#the fact that people even joke about it is so goddamned annoying#I for one welcome our canadian neighbors to burn down the White House again#also they are wildly underestimating the entire citizenship process and it’s kinda funny#even if I got permanent residency and moved there tomorrow I couldn’t even apply for citizenship until the next american presidency lol#I AM SO TIRED

Eligibility for Canada PR Visa in 2024: Comprehensive Guide for a Successful Application
As one of the most favorable countries for immigration, Canada continues to offer vast opportunities for skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, and families. Its Canada PR visa program, designed to provide permanent residency, is highly sought after due to its numerous benefits, including unrestricted access to the Canadian labor market, healthcare, social services, and a pathway to citizenship. This guide provides a detailed overview of the Canada PR visa eligibility criteria in 2024, the various immigration streams, and how you can navigate this process for a successful application.
Why Choose a Canada PR Visa in 2024?
Canada offers unmatched benefits to individuals seeking permanent residency. As a Canada PR visa holder, you will enjoy:
Unrestricted Employment Opportunities: The right to live and work anywhere in Canada without any employer restrictions.
Social Security Benefits: Full access to healthcare, public education, and social welfare programs.
Pathway to Canadian Citizenship: After meeting residency requirements, PR holders can apply for Canadian citizenship, offering the advantages of a Canadian passport and voting rights.
Family Reunification: The ability to sponsor eligible family members, including spouses, dependent children, and parents, to join you in Canada.
Given these benefits, it’s no wonder that more individuals are seeking permanent residency in Canada.
Pathways to Canada PR Visa in 2024
Canada offers several distinct pathways to obtain permanent residency, each catering to different applicant profiles. These programs include:
1. Express Entry System: Fast-Track for Skilled Workers
The Express Entry system is Canada’s primary immigration route for skilled workers. This program is highly competitive, using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to assess candidates based on:
Age
Education Level
Work Experience
Language Proficiency (in English or French)
Adaptability Factors (e.g., Canadian work experience or a job offer)
Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria and score highly on the CRS are invited to apply for permanent residency. Express Entry is ideal for individuals with a strong skill set, particularly in high-demand occupations, who are ready to contribute to Canada’s economy.
2. Provincial Nominee Program (PNP): Targeted Immigration for Regional Needs
The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is another key pathway to Canadian permanent residency. Each province or territory in Canada operates its own PNP stream, targeting skilled workers and professionals who can fulfill the specific labor needs of that region. When a province nominates an applicant, the nominee gains 600 additional points under the CRS, greatly enhancing their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.
Key Eligibility Requirements for PNP:
Occupation in Demand: Candidates with experience in professions that are in short supply within the province.
Job Offer: Many provinces require a valid job offer from a local employer to nominate applicants.
Connection to the Province: Demonstrated ties to the province, such as previous work experience or education in the region, often strengthen the application.
For those with skills tailored to the regional labor market, PNP is an excellent pathway to permanent residency.
3. Family Sponsorship Program: Reuniting Families
The Family Sponsorship Program allows Canadian citizens or permanent residents to sponsor their spouse, children, dependent parents, and grandparents for permanent residency. This program prioritizes family reunification, ensuring that close relatives can join their family members in Canada and enjoy the same benefits.
Eligibility for Sponsors:
The sponsor must be able to financially support the sponsored family members upon arrival.
A genuine, ongoing relationship with the sponsored individual(s) must be established, particularly in the case of spouses or common-law partners.
Family sponsorship is an ideal option for individuals who have close family members already residing in Canada and wish to reunite.
4. Business and Investor Immigration: For Entrepreneurs and Investors
Canada offers immigration programs designed for entrepreneurs and investors who wish to establish or invest in a Canadian business. These programs are ideal for individuals who can contribute to Canada’s economic growth and job creation.
Key Requirements for Business Immigration:
Investment Capital: Significant financial resources to invest in a Canadian business or startup.
Business Experience: Applicants must demonstrate substantial experience in managing or owning a successful business.
Job Creation: A strong emphasis on creating employment opportunities for Canadian citizens or PR holders.
Programs like the Start-Up Visa Program, Self-Employed Persons Program, and various provincial entrepreneur streams offer viable pathways for business-minded individuals to obtain permanent residency.
General Canada PR Visa Eligibility Criteria
While the eligibility criteria for each immigration program may vary, certain core requirements apply to all Canada PR visa applicants:
Medical Examination: Applicants must undergo a medical examination to ensure they do not pose a public health risk to Canada.
Security and Criminal Background Check: Applicants must provide police certificates from all countries in which they have lived for six months or more since the age of 18.
Proof of Funds: Applicants must demonstrate that they have enough financial resources to support themselves and their dependents after arrival in Canada, unless they have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer.
Language Proficiency: High proficiency in English or French is essential. Most applicants will need to take an approved language test such as IELTS or CELPIP (for English) or TEF (for French) to prove their language skills.
Benefits of Canada PR Visa
A Canada PR visa brings numerous benefits, including:
Permanent Residency Rights: Full authorization to live, work, and study anywhere in Canada.
Access to Canadian Public Services: Eligibility for Canada’s healthcare, educational programs, and other public services.
Pathway to Citizenship: After fulfilling residency requirements, permanent residents can apply for Canadian citizenship, thereby enjoying the benefits of Canadian nationality.
Sponsorship for Family: Ability to sponsor your family members to join you in Canada under the family reunification program.
Conclusion: Navigating Your Path to Canada PR
Canada offers multiple immigration pathways to permanent residency, allowing applicants from diverse backgrounds and skillsets to find a suitable route. Whether you are a skilled worker looking to immigrate via Express Entry, a business professional interested in contributing to the Canadian economy, or a family member seeking to reunite with loved ones, Canada’s immigration system is designed to facilitate your journey toward permanent residency.
Understanding the eligibility criteria, selecting the right immigration stream, and meeting all requirements will help streamline your application. With the right preparation and guidance, obtaining a Canada PR visa in 2024 can be a life-changing decision, opening doors to countless opportunities in one of the world’s most welcoming and prosperous nations.

Employers desire foreign workers who are accustomed to the hazardous work sites of industrial construction; in particular, they specifically solicit migrants who do not have a history of labor organizing within SWANA. In response, labor brokerage firms brand themselves as offering migrant workers who are deferential. Often, labor brokers conflate the category of South Asian with docility; [...] as inherently passive, disciplined, and, most important, unfettered by volatile working conditions. "We say quality, they [U.S. employers] say seasoned. We both know what it means. Workers who are not going to quit, not going to run away in the foreign country and do as they are told.” [...]
For migrants, the U.S. oil industry presents a rare chance to apply their existing skill set in a country with options for permanent residency and sponsorship of family members. Migrants wish to find an end to their temporary worker status; they imagine the United States as a liberal economy in which labor standards are enforced and there are opportunities for citizenship and building a life for their family. [...] What brokers fail to explain is that South Asian migrants are being recruited as guest workers. Migrants will not have access to U.S. citizenship or visas for family members; in fact, their employment status will be quite similar to their SWANA migration.
While nations such as the Philippines have both state-mandated and independent migrant rights agencies, the Indian government has minimal avenues for worker protection. These are limited to hotlines for reporting abusive foreign employers and Indian consulates located in a few select countries of the SWANA region. [... Brokers] emphasize the docility of Indian migrants in comparison to the disruptive tendencies of other Asian migrant workers. [...] “Some of these Filipino men you see make a lot of trouble in the Arab countries. Even their women, who work as maids and such, lash out. The employer says one wrong thing and the workers get the whole country [the Philippines] on the street. [...] But you don’t see our people creating a tamasha [spectacle] overseas.” [...] Just as Filipinx migrants are racialized to be undisciplined labor, Indian brokers construct divisions within the South Asian workforce to promote the primacy of their own firms. In particular, Pakistani workers are racialized as an abrasive population.
[...] While the public image of the South Asian American community remains as model minorities, presumed to be primarily upwardly mobile professionals, the global reality of the population is quite to the contrary. [...] From the historic colonial routes initiated by British occupation of South Asia to the emergence of energy markets within the countries of SWANA, migrants have been recruited to build industries by contributing their labor to construction projects. Within the last decade, these South Asian migrants, with experience in the SWANA oil industry, have been actively solicited as guest workers into the energy sector of the United States. The growth of hydraulic fracturing has opened new territory for oil extraction; capitalizing on the potential market are numerous stakeholders who have invested in industrial construction projects across the southwestern United States. The solicitation of South Asian construction workers is not coincidental. [...] Kartik, a globally competitive firm’s broker, explains the connection of Indian labor to practices of the past. “You know we come from a long history of working in foreign lands. Even the British used to send us to Africa and the Arab regions to work in the mines and oil fields. It’s part of our history.”
Seasoning Labor: Contemporary South Asian Migrations and the Racialization of Immigrant Workers, Saunjuhi Verma in the Journal of Asian American Studies

The Quebec government is tightening controls on immigration by suspending two major programs that are pathways to citizenship. Immigration Minister Jean-François Roberge announced the moratorium on social media late Wednesday, saying the province wants to “better regulate” the arrival of newcomers to Quebec. The government under Premier François Legault is temporarily freezing two key programs that lead to a Quebec Selection Certificate, which allows immigrants to eventually apply for permanent Canadian residency. Under the plan, Quebec will no longer accept new applications for the Regular Skilled Workers Program. It also put the Quebec Experience Program, which is for recent graduates, on ice. The freeze on both takes effect Thursday.

How is Switzerland? I’ve been thinking about countries I might want to escape to seeing as the IS feels like it’s circling the drain in some aspects. Is the food good? Are the people nice? The healthcare affordable? The rent low? The pets cute?
switzerland is one of the most expensive countries in the world and really hard to immigrate to (you have to be a resident for 10 YEARS to apply for citizenship, and 5 when married to a swiss person, which is double what most other countries have, and getting work permits as a non EU citizen is basically impssible unless you study here or are a """""highly skilled worker"""""") so i generally recommend against seeing it as a potential escape target, the food is pretty good and people are weird in a similar but slightly different way from how german people are weird, health care is more affordable than in the US but also privatized and generally more expensive than in other parts of europe (though generally speaking also really good), the pets are def cute!! and rent is really high in most places as is general cost of living. it's really just another neoliberal hellhole.
