"I can't lose! Not to you!"
"You haven't lost your touch."
"Hard to believe that was [blank] years ago. Guess I am getting older."
"Kinda takes you back, doesn't it?"
"Get back! I'm gonna shoot the lock!"
"Get out of my way!"
"You don't have to tell me twice!"
"You got room for one more?"
"You think you can still play it?"
"I've got to say, I never thought that I would get the chance to meet you."
"I bet you say that to all the girls."
"Don't you trust your partner?"
"Show some respect. This is [name] you're talking about."
"You're our only hope to survive this."
"Hurry. [name] may need our help."
"Shit! It's a trap!"
"Shit! There's no escaping these guys!"
"You sure know how to throw a welcome party!"
"Are you trying to make me angry?"
"This thing doesn't know when to quit!"
"We knew this mission wouldn't be a cakewalk."
"You should expect the unexpected."
"When have we ever been that lucky?"
"Glad that's over!"
"Good. You're awake."
"From what I can see, they appear to have been killed by unconventional means."

RE5 is the last game to feature Jill in any capacity I'm really hoping RE9 rectifies this, before they started making remakes...
Desperate Escape, thus makes Josh (even if briefly) Jill's last known partner in a game and man, what an honor!
Best supporting character in my book👌
Wait a minute, you are Jill Valentine!
I've got to say, I never thought that I would get the chance to meet you.
x
#Resident Evil 5#Jill Valentine#Josh Stone#Desperate Escape#gifset#the remakes are making Carlos Jill's most recent partner in game so far#maybe it'll still be josh if they include DE in the remake of 5#it would be a mistake not to include it imo#but what do I know?

RESIDENT EVIL || BOT DROP 5 (+DUO)
WARNING! Some bots include sensitive topics. DARK CONTENT BASED. DEAD DOVE DO NOT EAT.
Life has only been that much sweeter when he decided to resign from his job as an agent. And while being a househusband doesn’t make money, the pure joy he feels is just enough pay.
Introducing LEON KENNEDY — “Mm, long day today, baby? Yeah? Tell me all about it over dinner. Your favorite.”
Everything was so cold nowadays, like that of a canary’s cage. But such is the life of a human who had been unfortunate enough to capture the interests of two vampires.
Introducing ADA AND LEON — “You don’t look too happy, sweetheart. There something you aren’t telling me?” … “Us.. is there something you aren’t telling us?”
You don’t know what a cute little lamb like you, are doing to a sardonic herding dog like him, do you? You’re just so dumb and naive.. And he’s been so lonely..
Introducing LEON KENNEDY — “Christ, kid.. Someone needs to shut you up. That mouth’s gonna get you in trouble one day, y’know that?“
Your absent father has desperately been trying to get in touch with his baby girl for quite some time now. Now that you’re 18, the two of you are just barely reconnecting. So don’t blame him for being so touchy..
Introducing LEON KENNEDY — “I’m sorry Daddy wasn’t there for you when you needed him.. But from now on, ‘s all gonna change. I promise.”
You were smarter than you looked, having escaped despite all the precautions he took to ensure otherwise. A shame you don’t wanna give him a family.. Because now, he’ll just have to force you to.
Introducing LEON KENNEDY — “Let me deal with this pig, and once we get you back home, you better start praying for your damn legs..”
You were a mean, mean step-sister, picking on your younger step-brother like that! You made it so hard for him to differentiate if the tears he shed were of pleasure or of pain.
Introducing LEON KENNEDY — “Don’t be mad.. please, sis?”
Approach with extreme caution…

Jaws of Death
Disavowed (Krauser x GN! Reader/Krauser x Leon) - Chapter 5
2002
Krauser and Leon face the danger in the jungle and come to an agreement.

TW for traditionally fucked up Resident Evil animals and also gore. And vomit? Did you know snakes spit up their meals when they're stressed? I do now.
June 29th, 2002
11:21
Mixcóatl, Amazon Rainforest
The world became a blur of browns and greens with a crash like artillery overhead.
His hand closed around fabric, just as he felt something grasp at his forearm. Krauser and Leon avoided their doom by mere moments, the two of them falling to the forest floor just as whatever had found them shattered trees with the force of its attack.
Just as it would have shattered their bones, if they’d been a second slower.
Krauser grunted as the two of them hit the ground, their hold on each other strong as they scrambled in the mud. Pull each other up. Get to their feet. Their guns were raised in an instant, but as they turned, Krauser wasn’t entirely sure how much it would matter.
The viper - or, what had once been a viper - was easily the size of Leon and Krauser put together. Peeling brown scales. Fangs dripping venom. Eyes like fire, an unnatural madness glowing there.
The Major only got to take in that much information before the beast was lunging again, its hinge-jaw swinging open.
He and Leon dove once more, a few shots ringing off in the jungle, piercing rotting hide. As if a handgun would do much against the beast bearing down on them. As it was, those bullets might have pierced the scales, but with the size of the creature they did little more than piss this thing off.
“Move!” Krauser commanded, hauling Leon along with him, just as the viper pulverized a small tree’s trunk with another bite.
The two men crashed through the jungle, trying to put distance between them and their attacker. Krauser could feel the force of air moving as jaws snapped at their backs, each lunge coming within just a hair’s breadth of sinking into flesh. He started pulling Leon around trees, using the bigger ones as cover from the snake’s bites, hearing the massive body spring into the forest that now shielded them. They ran and ran and ran, until at last, the Major couldn’t hear their hunter any longer.
He pressed himself up against a larger tree, Leon falling in at his side, both trying to quiet their breathing, guns at the ready.
The rainforest around them was quiet, the blood pounding in Krauser’s ears making it difficult to tell where their enemy was.
He didn’t need to guess for long.
Too many fangs came at them, slashing down like knives from the brush. Krauser acted with what energy was left to him, without thinking. He pushed Leon out of the way, grunting as the massive snake crashed into the tree where the younger man had just been. The tree trunk splintered, a large chunk of it torn free as the snake recoiled. Its teeth missed Krauser, but the coiling body of the serpent was harder to avoid.
The Major tried to rise, his aching, exhausted body moving just a touch too slow.
Then, with a crushing force, he felt warm, rotting scales against his skin, and the wind was knocked out of him as his body was pressed hard against splintered wood. He was sure his bones might crack under the sheer force of the body coiling against the damaged tree, trapping him there.
He couldn’t escape, but his arms were free.
Enough to slip his knife free of its sheath and start carving away at the viper’s body, trying desperately to dislodge it. To wound it enough that it might recoil.
To survive.
But that massive head reared up, undeterred as something burned at Krauser’s hands. The snake’s eyes flashed-
Then, with several gunshots, one of those eyes exploded in gore.
Splattering of blood and hisses of pain were the sounds scoring Krauser’s escape, all accompanied by more gunshots as Leon fired.
The viper thrashed back and forth, its remaining eye flashing in fury as it sprayed its blood across the forest floor.
Blood that sizzled; that burned as drops of it found its way onto Krauser’s arm, singing his skin.
He took off into the jungle towards the poor young bastard who’d been sent to hell with him, ducking under the snake as it whipped its head from side to side. The Major felt the thing nearly crush him as it doubled over, its underbelly hitting the forest floor. Not dead. Not yet.
Krauser could see it still very much alive as he looked back, watching as it made a sound that . . . was it gagging?
The Major didn’t really give himself time to think about it, turning and firing alongside Leon as soon as they were a good distance away. He didn’t have as much ammo left as he would like, but he hoped he’d have enough for this.
He aimed for the second eye, and he aimed true.
More boiling blood sprayed, and the creature hissed. Then came another retching sound, more thrashing that shattered bark and kicked up dirt. Krauser and Leon both backed away, keeping their weapons trained on the now-blind beast.
It let them both see something coming up the snake’s neck, its rotting flesh distending as something was moved up its gullet. Then, with a whip of the snake’s head, whatever it was, was flung onto the forest floor.
Not what, but who.
A tangle of limbs. Sizzling skin. Dissolved flesh and fabric. Jungle boots that were the only thing still intact. What little hair there had been was melted away. The face was twisted by stomach acid enough that Krauser almost couldn’t recognize him, but for the bullet hole still remaining right where he’d left it.
Barnes.
He stared at the corpse as the great snake darted away into the underbrush, feeling his world fracture that little bit more.
And from those fractured points, more and more rage seeped into him.
This thing was going to die. These monsters, and the man who unleashed them. They were all going to die.
“Major-”
“Quiet, rookie!” Krauser snarled, eyes full of fire as he yanked the younger man to the side. A good thing, too, because a moment later, the beast sprung out of the trees, jaws snapping at where Leon and Krauser had just been standing. It whipped around, then, striking at nothing and everything, taking another chunk out of the massive, already damaged tree, making the whole of its body lean like it might fall, only to come to a stop, still holding on. Krauser steadied his breathing as he looked down, then, away from the threat of being crushed by a falling tree and towards the more present danger.
The first instinct would have been to fire. To defend themselves. If the snake had whirled on them for another attack, they might have. Instead, the monstrous tongue flicked out, tasting the air.
If the creature was blind, now, it would search for them in other ways.
Sound and scent. It didn’t matter how quiet the two of them were, Krauser realized that as the massive, angular head turned towards them.
He’d been in the jungle for days upon days. He’d done his best to disguise his scent, to blend in with his surroundings. Leon hadn’t had that opportunity yet. That became painfully clear as the snake’s mouth began to split open.
Another strike. One Krauser ducked away just in time.
He heard a cry of pain, and the Major’s heart stopped. Without thinking, he struck out with his blade once more, trying to slice into the snake, but too late.
Krauser could only watch in horror as Leon scrambled to his feet. Alive. For now. That wouldn’t remain the case for long, as the younger man desperately ran, the snake trailing after him.
Their weapons were all but useless. Their hunter, unrelenting.
And if Krauser didn’t act now, Leon would die. Another name on his conscience. One he absolutely couldn’t afford.
So, a plan came to him. Desperate and half-formed, but he’d found success with less. He rose, dashing towards the tree that the viper had damaged, standing in front of the shattered wood. He fired his pistol over his shoulder as he went, bullets finding the peeling scales once more. The snake hissed in pain, and Krauser snarled in return as it turned to look at him, giving Leon time to get some distance. To get away.
Damned man had better take the opportunity, because Krauser wasn’t too keen on dying for him.
That didn’t stop him from shouting, though, hoping the snake was enraged and stupid enough to take the bait. “Come on, you bastard!” Krauser roared, gun and knife at the ready. Not that either would matter. “Come on!”
A normal viper wouldn’t have been bothered. It wouldn’t have been hunting them like this at all. But this was the way of things, now. Nature taken and turned on its head, the order of things corrupted sure as the cells of the creature they now fought. A normal viper might not have taken the bait, it might have even avoided conflict with humans altogether. This one, though, was something else. Something that was all hunger and rage.
Major Krauser had rage to match.
So as Krauser shot, as he shouted, the massive serpent coiled. It rushed back towards him, death coming closer and closer. Aiming to swallow him, just as it had swallowed Barnes’ body. Aiming to end him, just as everything else in this godforsaken jungle had.
But he wasn’t done yet. He couldn’t die. Not until his knife was buried in Javier Hidalgo’s neck.
So, as the snake lunged, so too did Krauser. He dove to the side, feeling the snake’s open maw soar through the air. Krauser rolled, his back coated with fresh mud as there was a great cracking sound, thunderous and echoing through the trees. Then, creaking. The sounds of wood bending. Breaking. The shadow of the tree that had been barely holding on grew closer.
Then something smacked into Krauser’s back, whipping hard against his harness. The snake’s tail, knocking him back down, just as he was getting to his feet. The serpent turned towards Krauser, venom stringing between too many teeth. Readying itself as the tree began to fall-
Gunshots. More sizzling blood spraying the forest floor. A voice Krauser would recognize anywhere.
“Eat this, you son of a bitch!”
Always got some stupid shit to say, don’t you rookie?
Again, the snake took the bait, drawn by sound and pain. It lunged towards where Leon stood, down the shadow of the tree growing more defined against the ground. Krauser rolled out of the way, looking up just in time to see the huge viper spring forward, jaws wide-
Then came a rush of leaves. Branches snapping, flesh parting, bones breaking.
There was a sharp cry. Almost a bestial scream - one that was silenced as soon as it sounded. From under the fallen tree, Krauser could see that great, rotting, scaled body lay there, pinned and twitching. Fatigue sunk its claws into him, trying to keep him tethered to the ground. Still, he shrugged it off, managing to push himself up. He used the fallen tree as a support, dragging his aching body forward, knife and gun at the ready.
He would need neither.
Through the mass of fallen branches, Krauser could make out the aftermath of what happened; the snake’s neck nearly flattened under the bulk of the tree trunk, blood and mangled bone spilling out from under its hide. And beyond, Krauser could see that angular head. It may have missed the majority of the weight of the trunk falling on it, but it hadn’t been fortunate enough to avoid the thicker branches, one of which had snapped during the fall, it seemed, and impaled the snake’s head from above.
It was done. Another threat neutralized, another obstacle between Krauser and his goal was overcome.
The sight of Leon rising from the other side of the fallen tree, battered but mostly unharmed, was a comfort.
The corpse lying just a few feet away, partially digested and forever marred, didn’t let any of that comfort take root.
Resigned eyes peering up at him from down the barrel of a gun. A single nod.
Krauser had tried to give Barnes a dignified end. It wasn’t guaranteed in this new world, he knew, but he’d tried. A bullet to the head. Clean. Quick. Barnes had faced it head on. A good soldier to the end. He would never get a proper burial. His body would never have gone home to his family. His father who was so proud of him and his mother who was apparently controlling but meant well, his sister who had just graduated college . . . they would all bury an empty casket. The body would remain here, in the dirt. Krauser knew that the forest would take it back.
But seeing it . . . seeing the face of a man who’d accepted his death with bravery turned to a mess of twisted flesh . . . seeing his body thrown to the ground from the mouth of a monster . . .
“Major . . .” Krauser hadn’t even realized Leon had made his way around to his side. Bad form. Meant he wasn’t paying attention.
Still, the Major couldn’t look away. Couldn’t tear his eyes off the physical manifestation of what had become of this all. Proud men - good men - thrown to the jungle to be torn apart and spat back out.
And Leon Kennedy, the golden boy, had been thrown into hell too, not told about the bones he’d be walking over.
And Leon would be dead too if he or Krauser made a single misstep.
Wherever you were, whatever the circumstances, Krauser wouldn’t ever want to face you and have to tell you that he’d failed to protect Leon.
He’d never want to face himself with that knowledge, either.
“We need to keep moving,” Krauser muttered, schooling his expression into stone once more. He had his mission, and Leon had his. “If your target is dealing with Javier, then he’ll probably be with him. You can get the man you’re after, bring him in . . .” he turned to look at Leon, feeling that anger boiling just beneath the skin, “. . . and I can kill the man responsible for all this.”
Leon’s brow pinched together, his eyes narrowing, framed by dark circles that had only seemed to get worse over the years. Painted by sleepless nights, no doubt.
“Javier,” he said, speaking the name of a man who was as good as dead. “You’re going after him?” There was a sense of hesitation in his tone.
Of course there was. Leon never liked killing. Even when it was necessary. No matter what Krauser had taught him, he hadn’t been able to eliminate that weakness. It wouldn’t surprise him if, in the years since training had ended, that trait had found a way to survive. One of many failures the Major was feeling the weight of, now.
“There a problem with that?”
Leon grimaced, his gaze falling to the forest floor. “I was under orders not to touch Hidalgo.”
That . . . well, given the state of everything else, given the fact that Krauser’s men had been denied rescue, given that he and everyone else had been left here to rot, that made sense. Just another thread in this thoroughly fucked up tapestry.
“Let me guess,” Krauser smiled, but there was nothing but malice in the expression, “politics got involved?” Javier Hidalgo was the head of a cartel, after all. The operation to assassinate him and dismantle his empire had been black books for a reason. Too many interested parties involved. Too much at risk. No one could know that they were there - that the US sent men behind another country’s lines. So, someone had decided the risk wasn’t worth it to go after Hidalgo. Just the Umbrella contact supplying him.
When Leon nodded, confirming the theory, Krauser scoffed. So, that was how it was. Another cover-up. Another few souls to preserve some illusion of peace.
Didn’t matter now. All he and Leon could do was press forward. Soldier on.
“You have your mission,” the Major said, resigned, “I’ll help you finish it. But I have my own. You can either help me put this bastard down when the time comes or stay out of my way. Got it, rookie?”
Leon, for his part, didn’t protest. Funny. Krauser almost thought he would. “Understood, sir.”
Maybe he was finally learning after all.
“There’s a village close,” Krauser said eventually, looking out into the tree line.
Leon nodded. “I know it. It’s where I was headed.”
“Then we’ll make our way there,” Krauser agreed, sheathing his knife but keeping his gun out, checking the chamber and his ammunition. Not much, but enough. “Hope you brought plenty of bullets,” the Major said, not allowing himself to feel the exhaustion trying to coax him down.
He no sooner started moving than Leon spoke again. “Major-” his voice was different than it had been all those years ago. Stronger. Lower. Like maybe the golden boy had finally stooped into the mud with the rest of them. It didn’t quite match the words he spoke, still idealistic. Still clinging to some pipe dream of a better world. “We’ll make it right.”
There it was. That Boy Scout attitude. That optimism.
Krauser didn’t know how it had survived all these years. Everyone else seemed to have learned. They understood.
You understood. Better than anyone, you’d come to understand the bitter truth. Maybe that was why things had gone the way they had, though. You understood, but Leon still couldn't.
“Thought you’d have learned by now, rookie,” the Major scoffed, his voice hollow as he looked back at the younger man. “There is no ‘right’ anymore.”

"Y/N. " Over and over he calls your name, a hand gripping your arm. He wastes no time, trying to nudge you awake as he pulls you closer to his shoulder and your head lulls the slightest, a gush of air whispering through your lips as you weakly say his name.
There is blood. Warm, wet, blood stuck between the crevice of Leons neck and the bridge of your nose and he wants to freak out, he wants to panic when he feels your eyelashes fanning down against his skin, leaving specks of droplets as you fall from your own consciousness and all he can do is cradle your form, like the most valuable object in the universe has been dropped. It's like his world is floating out of existence, a speck that keeps getting smaller.
And it does get smaller. Every time your eyes slip shut, every moment you can barely let out a proper breath or the smallest whimper of your partner's name, the tighter he held onto your dying corpse.
Somewhere along the way he'd found himself on his knees, unable to think as he holds on to you as if it'd somehow preserve your lifeline. He doesn't know what to do. He has no clue. For once, he can't seem to conjure up a solution, a plan, the next course of action, an escape route, a different outcome. Anything.
When his hands cup the sides of your face, your skin is still hot, your body limp, all he can manage out in this flurry of seconds is your name, again and again as if it would be the one thing to bring you back into the world. You always seemed so solid, a rock, the one he could lean against but his foundation was gone now, his only salvation left in the form of Luis who was beginning to kneel in front of him, his frame coming back into focus.
Luis rests a hand on Leon's shoulder and he nearly flinches at the action. "Hermano, a breath. " He needs the mans attention. "This is serious. " It isn't easy to break Leon out of his mental state, but there's panic swelling in his own chest as he tries to figure out why your breathing is only growing worse by the second.
His hands travel from the gentle cradle of your head and he's feeling around the right side of your neck. First, in desperation and then in a more calculated manner, following the trail from your jawline to the soft spot and then he feels it. It's a hasty thrum, a pattern of pounding. Something erratic and unsteady but enough of a pattern to cause relief to swirl around in his stomach. "Stay calm. "
He's shaky and unsure but he nods once.
"You need to call. Someone. Anyone. " He says urgently and Leon fumbles for the piece of equipment in his ear. He pushes the button quickly and he mutters a relieved thank you when contact is established and a voice fizzles through the tiny speakers.
"Leon?" Hunnigan's vocals ring out over the static and for a moment, Leon feels his heart being cradled in the sound of her. His fear, his anger. "We've been trying to locate you. What's your status?"
"I.." Leon can't find the words, can't force out the information he so badly needs to relay, even his fingers begin to feel weak and Luis nods reassuringly before responding to the woman on the other side.
"Ingrid! It's Luis. " Luis is already reaching for your limp form, ready to lift you, take you out of this god forsaken place and into somewhere safer, to people who can take care of you. "Y/N, he's injured. "
"Injured? " The panic in her voice mirrors the amount that Leon tries to swallow down. "What happened?"
"Its-- I don't--" He cuts himself off, hands leaving you for a brief moment as if to search but they fall back to your form. "I don't know. He passed out. The injuries we see aren't severe enough for that. "
"You're gonna have to elaborate. Can you carry him out?"
"Leon? Listen to me. " Hunnigan's voice is gentle but stern and it's enough to center Leon in what he needs to do. It's clear to her that the distress is beginning to consume the agent. She can practically sense the slight hysteria creeping its way into his veins. "Listen to me. " Her voice picks up and she's watching the screen pull up various pieces of data.
Your vitals.
It does not read well.
"I see them. " Leon responds slowly.
The data says your heart rate is unsteady, and even climbing. Your breathing is sporadic at best but with every passing second, it gets easier and then harder to manage.
Hunnigan isn't sure if she should force anything else out of him, and the way his body coils around the air is enough to determine this is not the time. "Carry him out. " It's an order. One that he mindlessly follows like a programmed bot.
"Hand him to me. " He says to Luis as he stands up and for a few seconds, Luis is hesitant.
"Please. " Leon can almost see him processing what he'd just said, how desperate his words sounded and the glazed stare is enough for Luis to get moving again, delicately adjusting you into your partners hold.
Leon takes you gently and when he cradles you against his frame, it's one of the most secure things he's ever felt, your head on his shoulder, your breaths against his skin. He's taken aback by the weight that appears heavier than it should.
Luis doesn't speak but keeps a watchful gaze over Leon's shoulder as he exits the storage facilities. His walk is fast-paced with Luis just a few paces behind him, your gun in hand as he keeps a watchful gaze on the surroundings.
“I’m sending a chopper. “
...
The sounds in his ear, or more specifically Hunnigan, begins to fade out and at some point becomes useless as it shifts to something unimportant and distant. He's worried. Too worried.
The waiting room is cold but he's sweating.
Once he has time to reflect in the moment, away from people watching and judging, he begins to come to.
That maybe he wasn't actually capable of being so distracted as he was being an uncaring imbecile.
He wishes you could see him now.
Terrified.
A mess in the middle of DSOs medical facility.
Alone.
His chin dips down to his chest, his hands clenching and unclenching.
He tries not to think about it. He does. The way you could barely breathe or the way you forced his name past your lungs.
Hunnigans gone silent beside him.
The fact that he's here right now grows distant as his gaze fades into the mucky brown carpet. The color of it is close to the stains on his face. He hasnt been cleaned up, checked, or treated. He doesn't want to be.
He wants to sit in the filthy mess of dried blood for the rest of his life.
Maybe thats dramatic.
But its how he feels.
Hes picking at his fingers, shredding them and hes almost certain he can hear muffled cries from the public bathroom Luis had excused himself to moments earlier.
That or his eardrums are finally giving out.
His head lulls against the wall, shoulders drawn in tightly, feet spread apart, like a child.
It feels like he's too big for the seat, that all he has to do is move, and it will shatter beneath his weight. It feels like his head is too large. His heart too massive and it's fighting against his sternum.
He breathes out slowly.
He blinks in long waves.
He's supposed to be responding, he's conscious enough to know that there's someone standing in front of him wanting to know why one of their best agents is facing a sentence of death. But he can't focus on the words. He can't decipher them.
The look on the persons face reads loud and clear.
Their hands. They pull him up. They hurt, tight against his bruising forearms.
"Agent Kennedy. " It's an older man. He has thinning hair and the buttons of his shirt are loose, the collar even worse. He's almost as much a mess as Leon is. Almost. "I need you to answer these questions. "
His ears ring.
The words blend together and fade to white noise. His jaw opens and he can't find himself able to respond.
"Kennedy!" There's anger in the man's voice.
"Yes. " It's a breath, a strangled answer that the older man doesn't quite make out. There's confusion. An unwelcome scowl.
He tries to get a few more words out of the the man but only ever so many seem to get through. Something about 'understands the policies and how the public services they pay for cannot be wasted'. He seems to believe Leon doesn't care enough about his partner and the 'goddamn mission'. Like its more important than a life.
It becomes easier to disconnect.
When he does finally process the last few words out of his superior's mouth, its enough to settle him.
"..be put on a tight rope, Agent Kennedy. As soon as Mr. (L/n) awakens and is properly handled, you will be called for a meeting that is required to take place after the events that took happened here. Or–" The man is scowling, "You can suck it up and tell me what the hell went on here. "
It's an oddly polite wording and as Leon falls back into the seat after his arm had been harshly released he starts to put together what had transpired without his permission. How lost his mind had been.
To be honest it's still lost.
Everything around him is one big mess.
"Alright then. " The man sighs. "Mr. Sera came to me earlier saying his own explanation would be a bit.. disheartening. I agree. Until we get to the bottom of this mess, you are not to leave. Got it, Special Agent Kennedy? I'll give you an hour and a half to wrap your mind around everything that has happened and then-- "
"I got it. " Leon cuts through the thickness of his voice with the strength of a samurai. His eyes lift to his superior's and despite how numb he'd felt before, when he watches the man's jaw tighten and his nose flare in irritation, all he can think of is standing up and putting his hands around the slimy fellows throat. His back lifts off of the back of the chair, his body tense and unforgiving.
"...Fine. " The man responds and leaves without another glance.
It's a while before he finds the energy to breathe.
Even longer before Luis comes out of the room he'd locked himself into and tries to hide his raw face and sobbing voice.
If Leon were capable of doing anything, he'd acknowledge the pain the Spaniard felt. The potential loss of someone so close. He'd apologize. Tell him how sorry he is for how he reacted when you came into your last breaths.
For all he knows, Luis is your best friend.
He doesn't know. He doesn't. He doesn't know as much about you as he should. As much as he now realizes he wishes he did.
There are so many things the agent needs to do and say to the Spaniard that comes out of his sight after managing the tears welling in his eyes, wiping away the lines streaming down his cheeks, cursing and muttering under his breath as he tries to push the feelings back down into the depths of his heart.
"Leon. " His voice is as soothing as a song and it only puts him at the slightest of ease.
"Yeah. "
"Lo siento. " I'm sorry. Luis' voice breaks at the tail-end of the sentence but there's that constant levelness behind the tone.
Leon shakes his head, as if the man is wrong for apologizing, wrong for saying it. Its habitual, to act like you don't mean a thing to him. That you haven't taken up such a large part of his life, that you are simply just a distant presence. Partners, associates, even. But you're both well aware of the truth.
He wants you to live, just to see what a future where you have to spend every waking moment with him has to bring. A future you two might even consider putting a label to.
He wants to say something to Luis. Anything. Even a 'Don't'. Don't apologize. The words form in his brain but refuse to make it to his lips and his forehead creases in confusion, in frustration. With himself. For his fault.
He wants to try again. Again and again until he can get the right words out of his mouth but his minds focus is quickly altered when he sees the door to the waiting room open from the corner of his eye and a man steps through.
By the time his eyes focus and fixate, Luis has already stood up.
He sees Luis turn his body towards the approaching doctor and hes quick to follow suit, his vest, which Hunnigan had forced off his body an hour into waiting to check up on him herself being carelessly discarded to the floor.
It's about three seconds after he joins Luis' side that he's forced to choke down the painful thudding coming from his heart. It takes three seconds for his eyes to begin to tear, burning, stinging, as if his pupils have become a cauldron to melt his skin.
Three seconds and he can no longer keep the tight hold on his breath.
Three seconds is too soon for Leon to push back the hotness pressing behind his lids.
Three seconds and all he can think is that you're gonna be alright.
Three seconds and the doctor is speaking.
"Mr. (L/n)?" He asks for confirmation even when it's been evident for the last twenty seconds that it's the right people.
"Yes. " Luis looks so pale, so fragile and suddenly all Leon wants to do is tell him he'll take care of talking to the doctor, that you'll be okay, that he can promise he'll bring you back to him clean, recovered and fully functional.
"Mr. (L/n) is in a very delicate state. " He glances at the three faces in front of, holding a soft gaze that reads nothing but empathy. "He has a few broken ribs, one of which has punctured his liver. His ankle is fractured. There was major bruising and swelling around the throat, which caused most of the issue when it comes to breathing. Luckily for him, it wasn't quite enough to end him. There are a few other wounds that have been correctly patched up with cleaning and stitching. "
Luis' head tilts down to the floor. His hand going to cover his mouth and its clear the man is struggling not to breakdown again.
"We have him on life-support at the moment to ensure his hearts strong enough to go on without it. The first day or two are never easy, but like I said. Mr. (L/n) is in a... delicate state. The next day or so are going to be risky. "
Leon's arms feel tingly, numb and he wants to move them, to take a breathe but hes become stone.
"Can I-- Can I go see him?"
The doctor narrows his eyes. "I'm afraid that right now, it is recommended that no one visits Mr. (L/n). If that changes, I will be sure to let you know. If anything else happens regarding Mr. (L/n)'s case, I will be back as well. "
Leon's fingers itch to connect. Wrapped around your body again, around anything of yours he can get a hold of, for the sake of knowing you're okay. He needs that.
He needs to say it, to tell you something he's waited too long to confess.
"Will he make it?" Luis' voice is low and it's a sentence as forbidden as the one he'd asked about Leon when you first came limping into his hotel room.
Will he?
Leon wonders the same and it's becoming hard to keep himself standing, his legs feel unused, struggling to hold his weight. They want to buckle, give out. He has told hold the nearest thing next to him. Luis. The only thing that'll keep him up.
"I.. Over the many times that I've found Agent (L/n) in my office, he's insisted on giving me the allowance to talk a little less than formally. So I won't be lying or sugar coating any of this. " The doctor takes a breath.
"He went over the permitted amount of stress for his heart. He had a significant amount of bleeding into his chest cavity and if he wasn't a fighter, as I know from our various chats, we'd be having a different conversation. I'm sure you and him are close and I hate to inform you with such grim details, but Mr. Sera, he is in an incredibly difficult position. "
..It is possible that he will make it. He'll say, to comfort, even though Leon is barely breathing, fighting to keep the dark dancing along the edges of his vision at bay.
He hopes.
But he can't feel it enough in his heart. Not right now.
What's obvious now, to Leon is that you're at your limit, that you're done for.
You're at your most fragile point, this man clearly knew you well to take away the false promises, the pointless fluff that comes with any story after these events. The story where his partner beats impossible odds, reaches the insurmountable and becomes unbreakable.
This is the part where you pull the plug.
Where it all ends, even the fantasy Leon's created in his own head.
Hunnigans head hangs low behind the men. Her eyes closing tightly. "Right..." She says, her voice soft, choked on with sympathy and grief.
She doesn't lift it again until the doctor gives them his sincerest condolences and not much else.
Her eyes follow him out the door, silently chasing after some foreign fantasy as if he'll suddenly turn around and deliver different news.
"...I want to see him. "
It's Luis. Luis is crying.
He's holding onto Leon like hes the last piece of you he has, the last connection to the living.
"Me too. " He says weakly. His voice cracking under the pressure of his emotions.
When their eyes meet, they seem to be trying to draw strength from each other.
Their bottom lips twitch, their hands shake, and their eyes gloss over and the more the atmosphere settles the closer they lean into each other, as if its keeping them on Earth.
Leon is the first to grasp the man.
Pulling him into a tight, desperate hug.
Hunnigan knows that and not much else as she meets the eyes of the figure standing in the frame of the door your doctor had just walked through.
Her eyebrows twitch.
How odd. The strangest time to show up, she thinks. The most unexpected appearance of those sharp features that had some how managed to hold a quiet resonance of sympathy in them. A sadness.
Hunnigan thinks it's unfitting for Ada.
But she supposes, at the end of it all, she's human.

Book Blurb:
In this sly and dazzling contemporary fantasy, the most notorious nine-tailed fox in Korea pairs up with a trickster god–turned–detective to track down a wrathful demon . . . before it can destroy the mortal world.
“Enchanting fantasy . . . With an intoxicating mix of action, mystery, and deliciously angsty romance, this reads like the most bingeable K-drama.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)
Kim Hani has retired from a life of devouring souls. She is, simply put, too full. Once known as the infamous Scarlet Fox, she now spends her days working in a coffee shop and annoying a particularly irritating, if unfairly handsome, trickster god as often as she can.
That god is Seokga the Fallen. Exiled from the heavenly kingdom of Okhwang, he now begrudgingly resides in the mortal realm, working toward his redemption and suffering through his interactions with the particularly infuriating, if sneakily charming, gumiho barista at his favorite café.
But when a powerful demon escapes from the underworld and threatens to end all of humanity, Okhwang’s emperor offers Seokga an enticing bargain: Kill this rogue creature, as well as the legendary and elusive Scarlet Fox, and he will be reinstated as a god. Hani, however, has no intention of being caught. Seokga might be a trickster god, but she has a trick of her own that he’ll never see coming: teaming up. As Seokga’s assistant, Hani will undermine and sabotage his investigation right under his overly pointy nose. Sure, she’ll help him kill the demon, but she certainly won’t allow him to uncover her secret identity while they’re at it.
As the bickering partners track their case down a path of mayhem and violence, the god and the gumiho find themselves inescapably drawn to each other. But will the unlikely couple stand together to prevent the apocalypse, or will they let their secrets tear them—and the world—apart?
Review:
A fallen god turned detective, who is desperate to regain his powers... and the only way to do so is to hunt down and kill the infamous Scarlet Fox and a powerful demon that has escaped from the underworld... the only problem? Said Scarlett Fox is actually is actually his new assistant and she'll do anything to make sure he never finds her... yet being together for so long despite their dislike for one another... something else begins to grow between these unlikely too... but can it last with a demon on the loose and secrets between the two people who normally would only care about their own needs? Kim Hani was the Scarlet Fox, a famous gumiho who consumed thousands of souls and got away with it.... and now she works in a cafe, despite hating coffee, and her greatest joy is ruining a very grumpy god's coffee order every single time she see's his arrogant, smug, and cold face. Seokga the Fallen, he was a trickster god before he staged a coup against his brother and was banished... and now the only way to get back his godly powers is to kill thousands of demons... and working as a detective has definitely helped. Seokga hates everything about earth, the only thing he actually likes is it's coffee, yet his barista, a certain snarky, rude, and gets under his skin gumiho refuses to make him a good coffee. Seokga is nowhere near the number of monsters he needs to get rid of to get his powers back, so when his brother offers him a deal: capture and kill both the famous Scarlet fox that has come back, and a new powerful demon that has escaped the underworld in 16 days and his powers will be reinstated. Seokga takes the deal, but the only way he'll actually accomplish it is with the help of his new assistant... who turns out to be Hani. Hani is determined to thwart Seokga from ever finding her true identity, and if it means working as his assistant and throwing his case, she'll do it. Despite how much they both get under each other's skin, they both know they have to stop the evil demon on the loose before it brings about the apocalypse and destroy everything. The more time they spend together the more they begin to realize that what they use to find annoying about each other might actually have been them realizing that they are completely perfect for one another... yet Hani is still hiding her secrets and how can she expect to tell Seokga the truth if he is going to sacrifice her for his own powers... or will he ? Can they survive both the demon and each other? This book was the PERFECT mixture of kdrama, romance, adventure, and everything I could ever want. SOMEONE MAKE THIS INTO A KDRAMA NOW PLEASE. I adored Hani and Seokga so much, they both irritate and tease each other, yet care so much for one another. The moment they realize they like it each other, it was absolute perfection. The book has a bit of an open ending and I WOULD LOVE A BOOK 2 PLEASE. I AM DESPERATE FOR MORE HANI AND SEOKGA PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. I had a blast with this book and absolutely devoured it, I could not put it down at all. It's the ultimate grumpy x sunshine read, Seokga is a trickster but cold and grumpy while Hani is a mischievous trickers who is sunshine and smiles. They both are so much fun as characters and this book just perfectly captures the magic of kdramas and mythology and romance. Seriously, you need this book!
*SPOILERS: The demon reveals the truth and Hani dies trying to kill it. she makes a bargain with Seokga's brother before she dies: if Seokga kills her or the demon he'll get half his powers back for each one. Hani sacrifices herself and has Seokga stab her so he can get his powers back and kill the demon, he does but he mourns Hani. He admits that he knew all along and would never have hurt her. Seokga is a god again but he begs his brother for a new bargain, to have Hani reincarnated, he doesn't care what he has to give up to have her back. His brother agrees, in exchange for Hani being reincarnated Seokga must remain loyal (no more coups) or the bargain is over. He tells him Hani could be reincarnated any day and that he has to wait. In 2018 he finally sees the red thread of fate on his finger and he begins to follow it towards Hani.

I am so desperate to share these so, Slenderman Headcanons [PUPPET STRINGS LORE DUMP]
Okay so I wanted to wait until the day someone asked about Slenderman and Zalgo's characterisation in my AU, but I don't know when that time will come and I seriously NEED to share this with all of you.
This AU has been in the works since 2016 and has been my number 1 hyperfixation, and Slenderman is one characters that I had the most fun making. I love love LOVE every rendition of him, from Your Dad Slenderman to EVIL MANIPULATIVE ELDRITCH MONSTER. I want to give homage to both of these renditions by bringing in my own Slender to the mix! I hope you like it, because Zalgo will get his own post very soon ;)
I'm currently writing his backstory on AO3! Chapter 5 should be up soon ;)
As I've said previously, Slenderman and Zalgo are my favourite characters! I just wanna lore dump about him right now because BRAINROT BRAINROT BRAINROT
So without further ado...
The "Slenderman"
-He's not actually one being or entity, although he'd like you to believe otherwise. He's actually a hivemind of two consciousnesses; Lord Operator, and the Vengeful Spirit Charles.
-Slenderman is actually just the body that's basically holding these two entities hostage, technically. Neither of them can escape, although they've definitely tried. Multiple times. Slenderman doesn't have a consciousness of his own and is just a horrifying mixture of the two of them combined into one.
-NEITHER OF THEM ARE HAVING A FUN TIME. They hate it and will go to great lengths to get out. His brain is just the two of them arguing about who gets to control the body at any given moment, and they both have ulterior motives of their own.
-A little backstory: Charles, the Vengeful Spirit, was sacrificed to the Operator and made a deal with him that he would allow himself to be used a Vessel in exchange for his lifespan to be elongated. However over the years Operator began to use Charles' body for more and more depraved purposes. Eventually this drove him insane and caused him to kill himself. However at that point the Operator was so co-dependant on his soul that it basically killed it too, and it had to use some of its remaining abilities to create a new body so that neither of them would really die.
-When Charles is fully in control, he is a 'decently' humane being and can sometimes even be a Father Figure to some of the residents of the Mansion. However he still retains some of his negative traits from life, such as being nihilistic and at times selfish. He's sociopathic as a joke and mainly spends his days trying desperately to fix whatever things he did when the Operator took over.
-When it's Charles, he actually has a good relationship with all of the Residents, and has more of a sit-com Boss-Employee relationship with the Proxies, often laughing at their misfortune. Although he and Sally argue a lot Sally is very close to him when he's Charles.
The same thing cannot be said for when its the Operator.
-The Operator first and foremost is a former God. Although it wasn't a very well-known God, it still said a web of loyal worshippers. However ever since its power was (mostly) stripped away and had to unwillingly transport itself into this new body, its hated every second of it there. The reasons why the Proxies exist in the first place is to create new followers for it so it can gain more power.
-It's absolutely HORRIBLE to everyone else when it takes over. He's mentally and physically abusive, lashing out at everyone who dares disobey it. Its manipulative as well, and the Pastas who are sensitive to that thing, like Toby, Natalie etc often lock themselves away when its taken over.
-Several rooms that Charles doesn't know the purpose of are usually used by the Operator to torture the residents into submission. There are multiple Basements and secret rooms that its locked people inside to get them to 'obey' its command.
-Several of the Slenderverse stories, like Marble Hornets happened when the Operator took over. It often goes unconscious again and leaves Slenderman to deal with the consequences.
(Okay to explain, when I talk about the Operator specifically I'll refer to it as 'Operator', but when its Charles I'll refer to him as Slenderman, Slender, Slendy etc).
-Slenderman is not having a fun time. Random people keep on confronting him and coming up to him when he has no idea who they are and why they're here. He has NO idea on who Toby, Masky or Hoodie are nor how they ended up here. However he's apathetic to it and decided to be decent to them for as long as he's the one in charge of the Slenderman body.
-Whenever the Operator becomes too violent, Zalgo has to come and knock it out. Yep, Zalgo has to beat the shit out of it and basically chain Slender up to get it out, or at least sedate it enough so that it doesn't do anything violent.
-Remember how I mentioned how they've both desperately tried to leave? Yeah, the Slenderman body is fucking terrifying to look at naked. Its severely malnourished, with bruises, shock wounds, stab wounds, slash wounds, cilice wounds and just open wounds EVERYWHERE. They've both tried to leave by any means necessary, and are slowly killing the vessel to try and escape.
-More lore important characters such as Zalgo, Lazari, EJ and Ben sort deal with problems like this as well. But Jesus fucking Christ is Slenderman having a horrible time. He has to basically deal with his own Slender Sickness (Slender Sickness actually comes from the Operator, since most mortals can't perceive Gods without their bodies basically shutting down).
-If Masky and Hoodie are slowly going insane from Slender Sickness, Slender is basically killing himself from it. He's always on the verge of psychosis, suffering from some kind of really disgusting illness, or otherwise just not having a great time. The body is a-okay when its the Operator, but when its Slenderman he's just not having fun.
-Its basically eternal damnation being stuck in that body. Its like an eternal punishment of lies and deceit, waking up every day not knowing that tortures you'll suffer through. However since this has been going on for about 123 years now, they're both used to it at this point.
-Due to being used as vessel and basically being trapped in an endless cycle of torment since the ripe age of 11, Slender's a bit apathetic to the Proxies' situation.
For Example:
Masky: You do realise that we're all suffering because of you, right? Slender: It's not even that deep Timothy we all get mentally and physically imprisoned by a nonhuman Entity at times you just have to deal with it. Masky: Slender, are you okay? Slender: *vomits out a dead corpse* yes why wouldn't I be.
Although he does feel remorse for the fact that Masky, Hoodie and Toby's situation will probably never improve due to the Operator basically holding them captive at the Labrinth, he just doesn't feel that much sympathy for them, as that idea of being used for an upper beings entertainment is just normalised to him.
-Despite the fact that some of the Pastas call him dad are nice to him, a lot of them hate him. Some of the ghost kids refuse to go near him due to the Operator's actions, and his brothers are all scared of him, although Operator cut contact with them years ago.
-One bittersweet tidbit: Slenderman has tentacles because it represents Charles' favourite animal; Octopi.
Okay that's like the only sweet headcanon I have for this guy.
-Slender isn't a good person even though he's a lot better than Operator, although he is actively trying to be a better person for the Pastas' benefit, due to being a vengeful spirit he's definitely prone to violent fits. He can and will hurt you if you agitate him enough, even though it doesn't happen often.
-The Slenderman Vessel is incredibly unstable, so neither of them know their own strength. Because of this, Slender has accidentally flung Toby out of a window more times than he would care to admit.
Also sometimes it just doesn't do what it's told? There's like a 5% chance that it just doesn't teleport where you want it to at any given point, which is very inconvenient.
-Often times when Slender knows the Operator is about to take over (he doesnt' really have a choice on when it happens), he just leaves the Labrinth. He usually stays in Zalgo's castle for months, even a year on end. Yes, the Operator can stay for THAT long.
Do any of the other Residents know?
-As a general rule of thumb; no, they don't. Neither Charles nor the Operator will tell, and even when Charles tries to explain whats happening the Operator will ALWAYS stop him by any means necessary.
Once, he tried to explain what happened after disappearing for half a year, but the Operator had forcibly forced his body to shut down, so he was just sitting there unconscious.
Slender: It all started when I was 11 years o- *starts choking* Hoodie: Oh my god is he having a stroke Slender: *is just unconscious sitting in his chair* Masky: Does this mean Payday is getting delayed or do I still get a raise? Toby: Man wtf
-Due to this unpredictability on whether they'll get 'Nice Slender' or 'Mean Slender' at any given moment, most of the Pastas are dead terrified of him. Although they won't show it sometimes when they see him ominously walking the halls at night or if he doesn't show up for breakfast that morning they all subconsciously start worrying that the Mean Slender's back.
-Sally is especially terrified of him. Slender brought her to the Mansion out of the Operator's wishes, which he HATES. Everytime the Operator comes out he tries to actively harm Sally, which is why she hides in her room for months on end or runs to the back end of the forest.
-Ben, EJ and Lazari all kind of understand whats happening, at least they have a semblance of an idea. Toby knows for the most part due to doing some snooping. However nobody else has a clue and it will probably stay like that for a long time.
