The VAs behind Avatar's voice
I was playing World Tour and for some reason I never really put too much thought into my Avatar's voice, and who the ENG VA was.
And it got me thinking about the other Avatar's voices that made an appearance, and who they were. Surprisingly, I have heard the Eng VAs in different medias before.
Hopefully, this can help people hear what their OCs sound like, instead of hearing bits and pieces from the game.
1. Voice 1 Age (Juvinelle) Tone (High) - Zach Aguilar
They voice Tanjiro Kamado (Demon Slayer), Arthur Pendragon (Seven Deadly Sins), David (CyberPunk: Edgerunners), Genos (One Punch Man), Colt (Hunter x Hunter), Koichi (JJBA Diamond is Unbreakable), Expresso Cookie (Last Cookie Standing) etc.
2. Voice 2 Age (Young) Tone (High) - Xanthe Huynh

I definitely recommend checking him out, he voices a lot of characters I didn't even know were the same person.

They voice B. Jenet (Fatal Fury), Rye Cookie (Last Cookie Standing), Sachiko Juraku (Kakeguri Twin), Kurumi Saijo (Wonder Edd Priority), Pieck Finger/Cart Titan (Attack on Titan), Mei Mei and Nagi Yoshino (Jujutsu Kaisen), Furina (Genshin Impact), Miki Kawai (A Silent Voice) etc.

@eiriee (a beautiful new post for you)
My confusion did indeed come from the fact that the very simply titled Fire Emblem on the GBA is FE7, and more comonly referred to as Fire Emblem Blazing Blade now (thanks to FE Heroes, the mobile game). And, uh, Fire Emblem First Of Its Name (Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light) is (was ?) also available on Switch and somehow my brain went "yeah of course this is totally about FE1", having apparently forgotten that FE7 is. just. named. Fire Emblem. in the West
'cause it's the first game we ever got !
And it was also my first ever Fire Emblem !
With this out of the way...
Do you like strategy ? Do you like cool pixel art ? Do you like a story that is a lot more personal in scope than the usual fantasy story ? If yes, then Fire Emblem is the game for YOU !
... More seriously, Fire Emblem GBA was my first introduction to Fire Emblem as games, and despite some potential criticism of the changes to Lyn's Story, it makes for a great introduction to the game and how it works. In the Western version, the game forces you to go through Lyn's Story as an easy mode tutorial, to teach you the ropes through her personal quest after she finds you, tactician, just. yeah. you were out there. She had to help you. And you decide to help her when you get attacked by bandits.
And that tutorial does give you all the tools you will need to play the game, when, once you are done with Lyn's story, you get introduced to Eliwood, main Lord of the game. And once you've done that, you can go through the story from another point of view, with Hector's mode. Which is a huge plus for me - Hector's mode is harder than Eliwood's, but they didn't just decide to give you the same old, same old - there are a lot of scenes that reveal more of what happened in the story, things you didn't get to see during Eliwood's side of the game.
So you get one really well made tutorial, especially if you don't know how Fire Emblem works as a game (only downside is that it's not skippable for people who know how that all works), and then you get two versions of the same story, from different point of views, with a cool difficulty slide. I like that personally ! that really grabbed me !
An interesting thing about Fire Emblem Blazing Blade, to me, and something that absolutely grabbed me as a teen, is that while the story does end up having beats of saving the world... it is not as grandiose as most of these stories. It starts about a son searching for his father, and it always stays somewhat in the shadows, partly because FE7 is the prequel to FE6 and its much more open war. People just kind of. Don't know what happened. And I think that's compelling.
Another cool feature you can enjoy with FE7 : having so many little guys and gals to pick from and become obsessed with. While most characters don't get a lot of dialogue, you can and will find Your Special Boy Or Guy (mine's Kent he's a boring stick in the mud and yet I love him <3 but also shout out to Renault and Vaida). Fire Emblem is often known for its support system, that allows unit to build relations and let you get fun dialogue between those units, and it has always been one of my favourite feature ! and I really like the FE7 cast and the supports ! Having so many guys and gals to pick from is just a plus for me :D
And finally : ... a bit like the point I made about NES FE, I have to say, but... it's worth checking FE7 just for the pixel art. I find myself loving it, not only because it's really pretty, and I think there's a lot of reason why people make GBA FE Style pixel art, but also because it's a genuine asset for the game as a strategy game. I always find it really easy to read and a really solid asset for the gameplay : the maps can be large, but it's usually easy to spot ennemy units VS your own, and get a sense of what's going on where !
... and yes, the game makes the calculations before combat for you, unlike FE1, which definitely makes it easier to play and find your own favoured strategy :D
So... I hope I've sold you on it ?

Relieved to see the "Church bad" stuff in 3H was the result of Treehouse's *ahem* liberties with the localization. One of the things I liked about Fire Emblem was that it wasn't like the 5000 generic church/religion bad JRPGs and that it treated religion with nuance and treated it's religious characters respectfully. I'd hate for the series that gave us characters like Lucius and Renault to become another bland religion bad wankfest.
Well...
It's not only on the lolcalisation, I'm afraid :(
"Church BaD" is peppered here'n'there through the game(s) because if Church BaD then maybe siding with Supreme Leader isn't completely ludicrous - but the lolcalisation amped it up to 11.
FWIW, I still think the FE series is the same series that gave us Lucius, Renault, Natasha, Yodel and the other monks/priests so it still has that nuance and isn't the generic "Religion BaD" JRPG (playing TS made me remember what was a true "Religion BaD" JRPG lol), and even in some ways, the Fodlan writers tried to warp it around "it's not the faith that's BaD, but Rhea" without ever saying what's so BaD about the faith Rhea preaches and what the difference with the faith that will be preached by her successors (Billy or the Tru Piss church)...
IIRC in Nopes Seteth mentions in an expedition dialogue how he disagrees with some church tenets... but never mentions to Barney what are those tenets he, as a saint, Rhea's right hand man and more or less her older sibling/kin, disagrees with.
Imo, the general Church BaD isn't BaD for being BaD in the og game, but a way to say Rhea BaD to both sell Hresvelg Tea and the idea that Rhea has to go so the player, through Billy, will take her place and make a better world because player wank.
The lolcalisation though? Kept the underlying Church BaD, even if their love of Tea sometimes makes their script suggest "Faith BaD"!
#anon#replies#nuance in my fodlan game???#bar that wtf line from Seteth in Nopes#we never hear what religious characters or characters who are part of the Church think about it#and if/how it should be reformed#It's more like Rhea BaD so Supreme Leader Good#and Rhea BaD so she goes away thus Billy as God's avatar and the player can rule over the world depending on the endings#or take her role and of course do better things than she did

Based on this sketch, and on the idea of the Casablanca cast getting transported/isekai’d to a fantasy realm, and me wanting an excuse to draw 17th century inspired clothing - voilà
From left to right: Ugarte dressed up nicely with the assasin’s guild emblem next to him, Rick and Sam in their 17th century tuxedos and the emblem of Sam’s café/tavern in between them, Captain Renault as flashy as he deserves to be with the guardsman’s emblem, and Ilsa Lund with her coat of arms. It was a fun drawing this!

Remember how you could get a shitty priest in the end of FE 6 or 7 (forget which one). The point of that was to show off how classes effect a charter. They weren't a good person and a thug but in their late years are now trying to atone and connect spiritual. But he's no good at it is low AF magic stat

@dudefrommywesterns omg hi mike!! thank you!!
renault time
I'm working on the little bit of lore for my UO insert still but my insert nemo is a modern experimental angel, as opposed to the "natural born angels" of albion who were (spoiler alert) experiments by ancient sorcerors who proceeded to occupy the land they were created in and made their own orthodoxy. nemo was an experiment done by a different sorceror and thus as they grow up they become recruited by different mercenary groups and banished from their home land after one too many attempts to live there again (they are angels, they look like me, why can I not live with them), and also fight against zenoiran rule. they had not met before alain has them join his party as a reformed merc finding a place to stay (in the game you can recruit units like fire emblem), and renault's turn against his former self and following attempt at redemption leaves nemo kind of imprinting on him like a baby duck.
renault and nemo are very much a "doomed warrior" and "angel of salvation" type of relationship but in the game lore it is only revealed in "support conversations" :) in my head they are very sweet on eachother with soft voices and each of them jumping in to protect the other, nemo's hand on his cheek and he looks like he's about to break but he turns his head to kiss their palm. that love with reverence for the other person. i like to think they both find a place in alain's court to help the cornian empire thrive after all is said and done ^_^
#asks#im still hashing out details about nemo's canon lore but they are also shipped with a couple of other characters in the game#which are all supports based upon certain choices and time that nemo is recruited :)#si: nemo#self: uo#mike tag

broadly speaking awakening and fates' characters all suffer from being cliches with no interiority. the best characters in awakening (sully, cordelia, laurent, lucina) all have moments in either the story or (more often) supports where they have dialogue and display behavior that implies that there's some level of authenticity to them. it feels so rare when you compare to the majority of the cast being people like virion, gregor, tharja, nowi, kellam, miriel, etc. who are all just "i have a quirky personality and all my conversations revolve around me being quirky". it really makes me not give a shit about most of the cast because they feel like tropes and like they're less talking to each other and more trying to be cliched quirky tropes to each other. so far fates has suffered from that too, it feels like you can summarize everyone with one sentence or even a couple of adjectives. obviously this is subject to change but like. i miss when fire emblem games had characters like renault, knoll, canas, cormag, etc. because they all had really fascinating backstories and/or support convos that explored compelling moral dilemmas or otherwise fleshed out the characters organically. i think basically no support in awakening can rival something on the level of cormag/seth, canas/pent, natasha/knoll, or renault/canas. and that really sucks!

Williams to race with a modified livery on home turf in Silverstone
Williams to race with a modified livery on home turf in Silverstone By Balazs Szabo on 05 Jul 2023, 17:55 Ahead of the British Grand Prix, Williams Racing have unveiled an adapted livery for their home race as part of the celebrations to mark their 800th Formula One Grand Prix. The British Grand Prix was set to be the Grove-based team’s eighth centennial but, with the cancellation of Imola last month, that landmark shifts to the following race in Budapest. Williams Racing is celebrating over both weekends, to ensure its home fans in the UK can be part of the commemoration. The one-off Silverstone design, running on both FW45’s of Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant this weekend, pays homage to the team's British heritage and to its beloved founder, the late Sir Frank Williams. Since its foundation in 1977 by late Sir Frank Williams and engineering pioneer Sir Patrick Head, the team has won nine Constructors’ Championships, in association with Cosworth, Honda and Renault. The British outfit is the second most successful outfit only behind Ferrari, with its seven Drivers’ Championship trophies being lifted by true icons of the sport: Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve. The team’s 2023 F1 challenger, the FW45 will showcase a bespoke livery exclusively designed for its home race at Silverstone, and will sport a special emblem in Budapest. Furthermore, Williams Racing is set to bring a true legend of the past, the 1992 championship winning FW14B, to Silverstone. F1 World Champion and Williams Racing Brand Ambassador Jenson Button is set to take the wheel to complete several demonstrations laps in the iconic car on Sunday. via F1Technical.net .
