Hello, this is not a question but a thank you post. I have realised Reikasa artists never post arts of Reiner being abused by his partner, and disguise it as hate ship. Knowing Reiner is suicidal and have no will to defend himself it is also good to see Mikasa in canon is the enemy who didn't physically attack Reiner outside of the battlefield. Healthy relationships are always appreciated, have a nice day.

Hello Anonie! Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and nods! to this OTP. Personally, i'm more of a fic writer/content editor, and most FA I've shared here are the commissions I've engaged from the fandom's fan artists but it'll always be in the direction/theme that I personally requested on. One thing about ReiKasa being a rarepair is that, our FA is limited in quantity but amazing in quality. I am also blessed to have observe how this ship has grown from 6 years ago, along with it, content, from 90% fellow content creator who embodies the positive spirit that I've shared with the fandom since 2016.

Yes, I personally share your sentiments on FA who treats Reiner's suicide scene & his PTSD symptoms either as a joke or an avenue for them to fulfill hidden repressed, sick fantasies (I can tell you that some fans & fan content creator do get off on seeing/reading respectable characters in such degrading, morally ambiguous carnal/non-carnal acts) Whenever we see something distasteful, we can only ignore & move on (Ignorance is a good negative behaviour management) and focus on the more positive behaviors/contents instead.

However, there are some preferences that are indeed morally acceptable but Reiner himself deserves to be treated with class and respect of his own in such fan contents. E.g BDSM? Go for it! (Make it even more tasteful than Fifty Shades!) That is something I wish more Reiner fans understand. But a handful of them feel like hey if Isayama's taking liberty in torturing Reiner, it's free buffet for us FCs! We're gonna put him in the most heinous, degrading, uncomfortable situations/positions because we also secretly have an aggression towards this ship! (I've seen a few fan writers of my OTP did this. True story 🥲)

Regarding Mikasa, I am grateful that you understand her very well when it comes to her perception towards non-allies or enemies. We've seen Mikasa holding herself back from intervening with Reiner's AT in Liberio (unlike Galliard's JT) because she'd knew Reiner was not actively posing threat to their mission's objective. Jaw Titan was not one of the objectives. She could have intervene with Reiner but she didn't. Apart from the battlefield, if there's no reason for her to take arms against Reiner, she won't. She, along with the remaining SC, understood the meaning of setting aside their differences to work for a greater cause or overcoming a more global threat through the alliance.

It'll be another post required for this, but Mikasa indeed has been shown to be concern for and care about their new allies' safety & life. The same goes with Reiner. These two communicate more through their body language, expression and eyes than words. It can be observed since ch.124 onwards.

In any AUs (even in Canon) Reiner & Mikasa have the vast potential of a nurturing, respectful and heartwarming relationship with an unbreakable trust (if they survive by the end of the series) and that's what we hope to see more!

Isayama could let Mikasa move on from Eren, and he could reveal Christa was a teenage crush for Reiner that he got over, and let them get closer during final arc but he chose to regress both characters because EM sells only for him to ruin that ship with 8 pages and "romcom".

Hello dear! Thank you so much for taking the time to send in a kind Ask & for sharing your honest thoughts on what could have been. I had my grievances too and have mourned the ending, although at times, I have almost allowed hateful/negative vibes clouded my lenses.

Anonie, there are indeed subtle nuances that could have been expanded more between RK in the final arc from ch.124 onwards. Their brotp was rock solid!

For fifteen chapters, there were a lot of misses on a lot of things, but sadly, as a fan, we can only watch in helplessness as Reiner & Mikasa, being the intellectual property of their creator & the publication corporate that owns them treated them as nothing more than an avenue to bring in more revenue & decided that the published ending in volume 34 was the 'right one'. We don't even know what happened to Reiner after. We can assume he died having lived a fulfilling life. Bet you Isayama is gonna write some whacky trivia in his final guidebook on Reiner like he went to take a dump, slipped, bumped his head on his porcelain throne and died instantly. Reiner was 35. Isayama's suffering a post-series JK Rowling syndrome now he will make things much worst everytime he writes. We're not the only ones who believe that RK are the ones who could have been so amazing together for a lot of reasons.

Those 8 pages & a romcom publication only reminded me that by the end of a series, copyright owners only cared more of the direction that benefits the business side of things. EM has always been a prepubescent juggernaut pairing of the series that was never really meant to take off but needed to bait the majority of its readers. But as the characters grew, their perspectives and principles should too, but unfortunately we did not get to see that. In the end, Mikasa fulfills the 'prized waifu' archetype & Reiner, the undignified simp archetype who's hung up on a fleeting teen crush. The only thing that hasn't happened is him 'imprinting' on Historia's daughter like Jacob did with Bella's daughter in Twilight. Now that would be the final icing on the cake. Even Twilight is a better love story between the leads than SnK now.

Trust me, dear, EM pulls more dough, sadly and profits are more important than giving the characters a more dignified ending. Also, dramas & toxic, unhealthy, passive aggressive, oppressive and imbalanced rships are what the market wants to read more now, not about wholesome, respectful characters+pairings. That is where us broke ff writers come in ;____;

I remain with my personal unpopular opinion that Mikasa and Reiner together would have been a more bittersweet, meaningful & dignified ending for the respective characters without completely discarding most of their growth & development throughout the whole series. RK fans would naturally understands this the most. Isym happens to write his brotps better than his otps, but towards the end realizes he needed that otp to set sail for the publisher's business directive: merchandising, special publications & a possible sequel.

Aftermath of Confession

Jean, who was also there with Annie & Armin, was very happy to see that two of his loved ones are finally embracing each other's feelings. He asks the new couple, "So, what's next?

Reiner looks into Mikasa's eyes and says, "For now, I just want to make out with the new most important woman in my life."

Annie sneakily jabs, "Get a room."

Reiner snarkily replies, "Good idea," causing Mikasa and Kiyomi both to panic before Reiner adds, "It was a joke, ladies."

"Jerk." Annie grins, as she holds her paramour's hand tight in hers. One could also see the look of pride and happiness on Armin's face, upon realizing that his sworn sister is genuinely loved by a good-hearted man, who would be her true anchor & life companion after the horrors she was forced to go through.

Reiner immediately approaches the Azumabito family matriarch and asks for her blessing and advice with the intention to officially court her kin. Kiyomi states that once Mikasa ascends the throne, the rules of Hizuru forbids the empress to marry a commoner but the spouse of a married ruler who ascends the throne will be recognized as the empress or prince consort. Thus, Kiyomi advises for their courting to proceed after the marriage, which will be held in a week.

Reiner and Mikasa, together, also talk to Jean and Armin in making it a triple wedding instead.

As soon as they return to the settlement, Reiner wastes not a second as he also looks for Levi, to get the older man's blessing as his soon-to-be wife's last living kin on her father's side.

Levi shakes his hand, albeit sternly, to which even Jean and Armin would cower in reflex, yet no one can miss the tender look in their former captain's eyes; one of a proud father when he said, "Be true. Be loyal."

Karina, Gabi and the rest of the Braun family are over the moon over the news of their immediate engagement & the family spearheads the wedding preparation together. The men go out to hunt and the women help with the simple but homely decoration as well as cooking preparations. Connie prefers to help the women and part of the reason is he's really interested in getting to know one of them; a single lady who had adopted 4 children whose parents were killed in the Rumbling.

The evening after Reiner had received Levi's blessings, Mikasa asks him out for a stroll around the settlement. Reiner also wants to spend more alone time with her. Teary-eyed, Mikasa confides in Reiner on everything that happened during the moment when she decapitated Eren's head, a truth that she has never told anyone. Not even to Armin. She told him that she placed her lips on Eren's cold dead ones to say her last farewell and that she is haunted by what she has done ever since. She is scared & terrified of what she has done and she feels she is being unfair to Reiner because of how 'broken' she is from within. Mikasa also says that she understands if Reiner wants to call off their wedding because he deserves to be happy with someone who doesn't have immense emotional baggage like she does.

Reiner, wordlessly, only holds her close in return. Mikasa almost flinches but she gradually allows the shackles inside her head go. However, she isn't able to return Reiner's physical affections as yet because of the unbearable guilt she still holds, thinking she is unworthy of Reiner's genuine love.

Reiner also confides that he has his emotional baggages himself; namely the day he tried to shoot himself in the head right before the assault in Liberio. Reiner also shares the reason why he has stopped thinking of dying, in particularly, the moment he realizes he did not want to give up on life so easily was the second he saw Mikasa's helpless face when the alliance decided to kill Eren. He accepts if Mikasa refuses to proceed with their wedding, but he would still follow her to Hizuru and be by her side - even as a friend.

At that moment, they both realize one fundamental truth: all these horrors they had to go through especially together only made them even more compatible with each other. No other man could ever understand and love Mikasa the way she is. No other woman could truly understand and love Reiner the way he is. They were both broken, emotionally weighed down but the strength they each needed was in the other all along.

Reiner and Mikasa are indeed two odd-shaped puzzle pieces who turn out to be a perfect fit after all.

That night, Reiner makes the first pledge to Mikasa way before his wedding vows: He will love her and make her happy for the rest of his life. He will never give up on her. Not even after death.

Wedding

The wedding had been a simple but a merry affair. Falco had been the ring-bearer & Gabi the flower girl.

Kiyomi had a craftsmaker from Hizuru and a blacksmith from Marley to make wedding bands from melted 3DMG blades and titan crystals for the three couples.

Kiyomi had found beautiful western-style white silk dresses in the Azumabito family's garments chest on the main ship. The brides, along with the help from Gabi, Karina and her sister, personalize the dresses according to their preferences.

Mikasa wears an ankle-length princess cut dress with tight long sleeves. She embroidered the hem with forest green trimmings (her new favorite color) and sewn gold laces and ribbons on the wrists and neck to match the color of Reiner's eyes. So as the gold teardrop stone on her silver headpiece. Reiner wore a matching white dress shirt and dark pants with a long beige overcoat, with a silver garnet tie to match the colors of his bride's beautiful eyes.

Annie wore a shin-length bell-shaped dress, with a sky blue drape silk wrap across her shoulders and sky blue hair ribbon to match the color of Armin's eyes. Armin wore a crisp beige coat with a light blue dress shirt and a matching dark blue bow tie.

Pieck, who's already 7 weeks pregnant at that time, wore a long halter bare-back dress, with a flowy dark purple ombre gradient skirt and a violet satin waistband, which matched Jean's bowtie and suit vest. He paired it with a crisp dark brown full suit.

Annie & Pieck were walked down the aisle by their respective fathers. Levi was the one who accompanied Mikasa down the wedding lane to Reiner.

Reiner was just captivated - he had tears in his eyes the moment he saw Mikasa in her wedding dress. He immediately kisses her hand when Levi gave her away.

Reiner & Mikasa's vows brought the guests to tears. Reiner vowed that he will always place Mikasa's life & needs before his and will always be with her through every second of their lives together - side-by-side, not behind her or in front of her. Mikasa vowed that Reiner will always have not only her heart but her whole life, in which their souls are bound for all eternity.

When they shared their first kiss as husband & wife, Mikasa truthfully savored & surrendered her heart to her first true love's kiss with Reiner.

Since Captain Levi was injured, it was Armin who sweetly offered his hand for Mikasa's father-daughter dance, as her sworn brother.

At the reception, Connie, being the best man to all the grooms jokingly said to the three of them, "You boys might have been married first, but I already beat you guys in being a dad," proudly proclaiming while cradling his adopted 3-month old baby girl in his arms.

Wedding Night & Courting

That eve of the wedding, Reiner had been a perfect gentleman and he wants Mikasa to know that they will always be each other's equal. He only asks her to take the lead when it comes to the physical intimacy in their shared life & they will only consummate their wedding when she is ready.

Reiner & Mikasa spent their wedding night just talking & reminiscing about their time as 104th cadets and positive memories of everyone they know until they fell asleep in each other's arms. Reiner wanted Mikasa to remember only the good memories with Eren and that night, Mikasa had a minor night terror but Reiner's embrace helped calm her down as he helped her back to sleep.

The next morning, Reiner & Mikasa spent their time helping the resident cooks in the main kitchen with breakfast. Reiner likes to sneak in quick kisses on Mikasa's forehead in between the kitchen chores & despite not being able to fully initiate physical affections towards Reiner, Mikasa have become more comfortable in accepting Reiner's physical affections without being subconsciously defensive.

They spent the next several days together by doing domestic chores around the settlement in particularly, they discovered that they both share the same enjoyment towards harvesting in the fields. Reiner loves seeing the peaceful expression on Mikasa's face underneath the sun when she's working hard at plotting soil for the vegetable roots. He never stops seeing her as the strongest, most beautiful woman in his life.

They both went on evening walks with Falco & Gabi and stargazing at night. Sometimes they would talk, sometimes they would just sit in silence while holding each other's hands. They also discussed on their near future plans in settling down in Hizuru, bringing Karina with them so they can still take care of her together.

Reiner carries her from the main walkway to their shared unit every single night, much to Armin & Annie's amusement and Mikasa's horror. But by the third night, Mikasa had become more relaxed and she leant on Reiner's sturdy shoulders, accepting his comfort naturally.

Reiner also loves giving Mikasa surprises - whether it's a wild flower, a ripe edible harvest or any interesting things that he found while he was out helping at the fields.

Reiner's honesty, diligence and romantic wooing won Mikasa's heart and the last evening before they left for Hizuru, they finally consummate their marriage. That night, he carried her all the way to bed and they never left until they woke up in the morning. Reiner spent the whole night just worshipping every inch of his wife's body and never took his eyes off hers when they made love for the first time.

Life in Hizuru

As soon as they docked in Hizuru, Reiner & Mikasa, respectively, went into an immediate intensive training to prepare them for the duties & expectations of the imperial throne. Mikasa, to prepare her as an Empress and Reiner, to prepare him as her prince consort, especially him being the first non-Hizurian blood to sit on the imperial throne.

Reiner also voluntarily enlisted with the Hizurian naval forces to learn the new ropes of being a sea military member, as oppossed to land. It wasn't long when the higher-ups took notice of his exceptional skills, natural leadership & battle experience, that he was made an Admiral in training within three months of his enlistment.

Reiner & Mikasa had to spend the first few months apart and that made the newlyweds miss each other even more.

During this temporary separation, Reiner and Mikasa had been writing love letters to each other, everyday without fail. Karina made sure that her daughter-in-law would never feel alone & she always helped Kiyomi in supporting the empress-to-be so it would not be a lonely, isolated period for Mikasa while she's being separated from Reiner.

Reiner & Mikasa were only reunited a week before their enthronement, which was held six months after they arrived in Hizuru. Everyone of their loved ones in Fort Salta's residence had been invited as the royal guests. Despite having challenging pregnancies as former female shifters, Annie and Pieck wouldn't miss the opportunity to support Mikasa & Reiner's historical day as they officially become the new age imperial monarch of the East Sea country. Pieck went into an early labor during the visit. Jean & Pieck's eldest son was born in Hizuru.

Enthronement & the royal Azumabito (Ackerman-Braun) family legacy

Mikasa's royal title is Her Imperial Highness Empress Mikasa of Azumabito.

Reiner's royal title is His Imperial Highness Reiner Braun Consort to Empress Mikasa.

The first night after Mikasa & Reiner's enthronement, they conceived the firstborn heir to the throne - His Imperial Highness Prince Ryuujin Marcel Ackerman-Braun of Azumabito. In the following years, they were also succeeded by twin princesses, Her Imperial Highness Princess Reina Mathilde Ackerman-Braun of Azumabito & Her Imperial Highness Princess Ryoko Minerva Ackerman-Braun of Azumabito and the second crown prince, His Imperial Highness Prince Ren Mathias Ackerman-Braun of Azumabito.

Mikasa will then make history as the first royal empress who had built the greatest legacy & the strongest, peaceful empire in the world. She is the global icon of world peace & female empowerment, with her husband's neverending love & support.

Reiner is known in history as not only as one of the World's heroes & Eldian consort to the Hizurian empress, but he is the first non-Hizurian naval leader who unites three major nations in the world - through his battlefield intelligence & military prowess.

Under Levi Ackerman's watchful tutelage, Reiner & Mikasa's four children (consecutively their descendants that followed after) have become existential symbol of humanity's unity through the four major bloodlines running through their veins : Hizurian, Ackerman, Marleyan & Eldian from their parents. Each child becoming successful scholars who would continue to fight for humanity in their respective chosen fields; Prince Ryuujin in military & global peace efforts, Princess Reina in women's studies, Princess Ryoko in medicine & Prince Ren in industrialism - all fortifying the legacies their parents have inspired them with growing up.

I truly had fun in working on this. Just imagining such potential future for my two beloved characters never fails to leave an everlasting warmth in my heart. Why ReiKasa is a (BR)OTP ship that’s worth more than a fleeting glance

[*caution: a continuation of a long reflective post with the sole intention to share a fan’s perspective through available representation through manga, anime, exhibition & etc. This post is not to convince nor argue where is its place in canon, but only to explore the vast possibilities of these two amazing characters that I love. In the end, if the series ends with Mikasa alive & ending by herself or with X character, then it means Isayama believes that X character is the one she’ll find that eventual happiness with and I’m all for that. Same goes with Reiner :)] Special thanks to @berumika​ for sharing some of the additional points that are included in this post. Years down the line after SnK ended, I’d love to have a post I can revisit of these two amazing characters & the possibilities that could have been from time to time. I’m having absolute fun in observing how much both of these characters have grown since the series debuted in 2010.

When I first got to know SnK/AoT, it was through the anime first before manga. Bad idea for me. My initial perspectives of Mikasa & Reiner were skewed and that was later rectified as I navigated the original source directly. Eren is the first protagonist that was introduced by the series creator but I was drawn to Mikasa & Reiner when I started the manga after Season 1 ended. 

Trainees

These top two trainees of the 104th batch are closely matched to each other in ranking. We don’t see them interact directly in the anime, but in the early panels of the manga, Reiner could be seen sitting down with Eren, Mikasa & Armin during mealtimes.

Sure, Mikasa can be expected to not converse with Reiner directly, but if her two childhood friends have their good friend sitting together for meals, at the very least we can expect them to have some brownie points in socialization.

Apart from being total gorgeous hotties, they’re both physically strong people, with Reiner always being second to Mikasa in terms of brute strength. Total muscle pairing and I could see them being at par with each other during physical drills. Reiner & Mikasa could go all out, even beyond 100% and the other would be physically capable to take/receive the force. Shadis would’ve tasked them to lead the physical trainings from time to time. They have been sparring partners, evident from the moment Mikasa threw Reiner across the field into Eren who’s sparring with Annie. Their fitness regime would be in-sync with each other. I could see them having mad respect for each other and secretly admire the other person’s prowess and skill. 

Connection through Eren

As highlighted primarily in Pt.1, Eren has been shown to look up or aspire to be high achievers like Reiner and Mikasa both. He wanted to be as strong as the two of them. The odds of the very same people he look up to, as the two individuals who would be able to stop him, I would suspect as very high at this point.

When they were younger, Reiner has always been the one that’s pulled Eren up when he’s down, nearly giving up & at the lowest points of his life. He was also the one who convinced Eren to ‘keep on moving forward’, which we’ll learn later was one of the most ironic moments that Reiner recalled as he feels responsible for everything that begun, which also pushed his guilt inside him to his near-suicide attempt.

Survey Corps

Reveal on Wall Rose

Mikasa, was one of the few junior SC members who were called in for the secret meeting with the unit’s top brass the night before the reveal. She was made aware of Reiner & Bertolt’s possible identity as the enemy after she assisted with apprehending Annie in Wall Sina. While Reiner was talking to Eren, Mikasa could be seen being highly agitated, hands shaking as she waited with unease breath for Reiner & Bertolt to make their move.

She was later seen questioning her hesitance on delivering the killing blow or at least enough to incapacitate them. Mikasa called Reiner & Bertolt “the plague of humanity” in anger and absolute disappointment. They were still her friends that she knew for three years & it had been difficult for her to kill them.

Mikasa was the one who crippled the Armored’s legs. She wasn’t as emotional as Connie, Jean & Sasha but there was a deep, painful rumination on her part the moment they assumed that Reiner was dead dead. She was also the one who noticed the sudden move from Reiner’s Armored Titan. In the anime, she could be seen angry & frustrated at Reiner’s refusal to confess that she pulled too hard on the bandage in her hands while she was helping Jean with his injuries.

Reiner’s reminiscence & nightmares

Reiner’s reminiscence of Mikasa was indirect, but he highlighted her (and Armin’s) fierce, unwavering loyalty towards Eren. He had recurring nightmares of her & Levi that are the symptoms of his PTSD. The anime specifically used her shot to highlight the last image of her that he saw: anger.

Assault in Liberio

You could see the existing disappointment on her face when Reiner’s partially transformed Titan appeared, having to cross paths again in such a way after four years. She could’ve intervened the way she did with Galliard’s Jaw but she didn’t. Eren said Reiner’s out of any energy left to retaliate and Mikasa didn’t disagree. At this point, Mikasa is already affected by Eren’s actions in murdering the women & children inside the building that he shifted in and the destruction they all left behind.

Connection through Gabi

Reiner’s young cousin reminded Armin & Mikasa of a young Eren. The difference is that, Gabi had an early opportunity to be saved through the compassion showed by Mikasa and Sasha’s beloved family. The very same people who had every right to be sad, grieving and taking out their anger on the child who gunned down their beloved friend & daughter.

Mikasa doesn’t verbally express her emotions but it can be shown through her body language & facial expressions. I love seeing the tender way she pressed Gabi’s head onto her shoulder as protection and a symbolism of safety. It was a bit sad that this ‘bond’ was short-lived but what an amazing connection it would’ve been if Mikasa & Gabi had been given more space to develop their bond in canon.

Concern for Reiner & Annie

Usually when Mikasa verbally expresses something, it is usually important/significant to her. In ch.124, she could be seen asking Gabi about Reiner’s location. Why? It’s because she is concerned for Reiner’s safety. If his Armors were undone, he was vulnerable and with pure Titans and the Colossal Titans walking around, he would be in danger.

“We need to help Reiner & Annie.” She was heavily concerned with Reiner and Annie’s lives at the docks. But this moment is more important for Connie as a callback to the moment when Annie & Reiner both had saved Connie when they were trainees.

Adjacent Manga/Official Art Paneling(s)

In the current final arc of the manga, (several panels have been highlighted in Pt.1) it’s quite interesting to note that Mikasa & Reiner’s characters/panelings have been drawn adjacent to each other. I could also see the way Armin, Reiner & Mikasa (ARM) are getting primary focus by Isayama in this final arc.

Cool-faced Cookie (Attack on Titan Game)

When Reiner suggested the player to do a melee practice with two other sparring partners, he immediately spotted Mikasa & Historia. It’s very interesting to note that Reiner’s nickname for Mikasa is “Cool-faced cookie” as he hinted the player to ask Mikasa for an impromptu practice.

The blink and miss furtive glance(s)

In Lost Girls OVA’s ED by WIT, a screenshot of the primary 104th walking together could be seen. Mikasa could be seen sneaking a glance at Reiner.

In a scene during the fresh SC recruits discussing intensely about Eren’s role as humanity’s hope, Reiner could be seen glancing silently with concern for Mikasa, as Jean questions her vouch of confidence in Eren’s abilities.

In Snk OVA#3, Mikasa is grouped with Reiner for the excursion and they could be seen having good teamwork together. When Mikasa’s ‘sixth senses’ are triggered due to Eren being in danger, Reiner could be seen looking at her direction immediately as if sensing her distress. 

Characteristics & Zodiac Signs

Amazing/Compassionate with children

Known as the Shield of Marley, Reiner’s a caring keeper, a natural leader and a provider who’s naturally amazing with children. Everyone looks up to him. Would’ve made a good family man if the circumstances were different. Based on his characteristics & physical attribute, he reminds me of Mikasa’s father below, no matter how short-lived he was. I could see her admiring that side of him even if it wasn’t mentioned directly. They are both loving, selfless, protective towards their child/ward.

Mikasa, true to her name, an Ackerman, a genetically-enhanced super soldier/warrior of Paradis that wields their blades with the highest efficiency. Though she might not seem as natural with children, did come from a healthy & loving upbringing with her parents for nine years. Her real persona as a child pre-awakening is a curious, thoughtful and actually a warm-hearted girl. Post-awakening characteristics could also be contributed from the traumas imposed by the murder of her parents, the fall of Wall Maria, the death of Carla & having to shoulder the immediate responsibility as Eren’s new ‘guardian’/caregiver/problem-solver/mess-cleaner.

She shown her compassion towards Gabi, which in turn had proved to the little girl how there are good-hearted, forgiving people in the Island. Mikasa could be observed as being heavily concerned with Falco as she questioned Jean about the young  boy. One could see the anger on her face when she saw Connie took off and abducted Falco to be fed to his mom. She drew the line in harming children even if they’re trained enemy soldiers.

Aquarius & Leo’s Compatibility

Reiner’s a Leo and Mikasa’s an Aquarius. Their characteristics are too coincidental to their respective astrological signs to be disregarded completely.

He’s an extrovert (Ref: younger!Reiner. Older Reiner too but his PTSD’s and maturity have taken over his more outgoing personality) that compliments her introvert personality yet they both have their inner demons to deal with and could somehow understand that about each other. He’s a ray of sunshine that could enlighten her melancholic personality. Yet their dominant personalities, although might be clashing at first, eventually would lead them to respect the other’s perspective. This would ring true when they were younger. Currently they have grown older, wiser and more understanding of the other.

At the current Final Arc, this has been highlighted in Part 1, recent chapters have shown older Reiner and Mikasa’s unspoken respect and understanding for each other. The current Reiner’s natural leadership as a born Leo is very apparent. Reiner was being very mindful of her feelings as Eren is a very sensitive subject & Mikasa took in Reiner’s words with serious consideration. 

It would be great to see more of their combined synergy as Reiner & Mikasa’s teamwork could be seen once again in ch.135. Aquarius & Leo would take turns to take a back seat while letting the other leads.

They are actually very physically and sensually compatible with each other & could potentially be an unstoppable force if they were to fight for the same side. At the moment, I’m hoping to see this potentially deadly combination once again in ch.136 onwards. They could’ve overtaken Eren’s Founding Form is it wasn’t for OG!Ymir’s one-sided overkill powers. To the real God who created the parasite worm, please take powers away frpm this uncontrollable grandma in a little girl’s body.

Since this is SnK and not Berserk/Tokyo Ghoul/insert other josei manga titles, no one’s having sex directly haha In an ideal world, Reiner & Mikasa’s physical attractions for each other will almost be off the charts. “When they find true emotion, Aquarius might actually end up respecting the king”. In current arc, this can be observed. She respects Reiner & his words.

The above describes both Mikasa and Reiner respectively. Mikasa does not reach for heroism directly but it can be seen indirectly from the way she had inspired a child Louise through her bravery, protecting Gabi and rescuing/protecting the Azumabito Service crew from the Jeagerists. Reiner has always been born to be a hero, regardless of the circumstances of his conception or birth.

“If they end up fighting for the same cause, they could turn down entire governments and use their incredible force to change anything in the world.”

Even oppressive, destructive supernatural, God-like powers? Ymir & Eren, better be prepared.

“Leo -- has the ability to give clarity to any situation.” Ch.133. That was not Reiner projecting. He’s always been Eren’s counterpart. He’s telling the readers that there’s a part of Eren out there that still wants to be stopped since he has surrender his will to Ymir. She took his words into serious consideration and in Paths, voices out to Eren on his sins and burden.

“Leo is exactly what Aquarius needs to find love. -- to liberate and shine as if they have been searching for one another for many lifetimes.” In an ideal world or in my gazillion AUs: Reiner and Mikasa could be soulmates.

This could ring true for the younger Reiner & Mikasa.

Reiner and Mikasa both are indeed strong, selfless individuals in each other’s eyes. This can be observed in Ch.133 & 135. Reiner feared her but respect her strength & feelings when it relates to Eren nevertheless. Even Reiner was taken aback by Pieck’s ultimatum in blowing the Founder’s neck, although Armin had suggested the same thing the night before.

“Just like the Sun and the lightning don’t go together, Aquarius should take over on a rainy day, in a depressive crowd or in places where they both feel as if they would drown. This is where Leo needs to give in and let their partner rule the sky--”  It wasn’t a rainy day or depressive crowd in ch. 135, it was a chaotic shitstorm and they were all not drowning but dying. Period. Our dear Mikasa took charge like a BAMF Queen that she is. She was putting her life on the line to protect the four injured men behind them. She aimed to buy them more time if she could as everyone expected it to be the end. As highlighted in Pt.1, you could see the helplessness on Reiner’s face when he saw Mikasa’s breaking point.

The Final Exhibition highlights the Last Stand: the direct final confrontation between The Founding/Attack against The Armored, with Mikasa being in the middle of the confrontation, tipping the scales of the outcome. Before, she assisted Eren against Reiner. Currently, she is working with Reiner to stop Eren.

EMA & RBA have always been lauded as the main trio of their respective sides. We have seen Armin taking over Bertolt’s powers & is potentially promised a future with the girl that Bertolt had feelings for. Recognize the probable pattern?

Guy from trio 1 ate Guy from trio 2′s Titan & is promised a potential future with the girl he cares for/have feelings for/close with from the trio.

Only one between between Eren & Reiner will remain. What if the story begins with Eren but will end with Reiner all along?

SnK HighSchool AU / Breakfast Club X-over

In the movie, the Jock (Quarterback!Reiner) ends up with the Rebel (Goth!Mikasa). He looks past her eccentricity & see her for who she is. This is a fun crossover by Isayama but very interesting to see Armin, Mikasa & Reiner work together to save Eren in the fake previews.

Whether the combined strength and perseverance of the Blade of Paradis & the Shield of Marley be enough to save the world from total annihilation? It remains to be seen very, very soon.

No matter how the series ends, whether both Reiner and Mikasa survive or not, I’ll be looking back in pride upon seeing their journey, growth & dynamics as either individual or together in this beautiful series by Hajime Isayama’s brilliant mind. Because of him, these two characters inspired his readers, myself included, to be brave and fight for what they truly believe in: humanity & its continuation. It has been an incredible ride and I will continue to enjoy writing for this OTP/BROTP, that I’ve fell so deeply in love with and their vast possibilities.

The sounds of her boots stepping hurriedly on the polished floors resonated against the clean, white walls of the hallways in hollowed echoes. A voice caught her dead in her tracks as soon as she turned into the corner leading into the more secluded operations wing of the hospital’s main building.

“Good afternoon, Dr. Jeager?” A young man, who seemed to be waiting anxiously near the entrance to the operating theatre DM05, approached her as soon as she came into his view. From his security tag and the embroidered emblem on his coat, it was very apparent that he is the personnel from Marley that she’s supposed to be liaising with on the emergency procedure she was called in for.

After quite some time, she casually corrected this stranger’s greeting underneath her breath. “It’s actually Dr. Ackerman now.”

“I’m sorry?” Perplexed, the man, still apologized for his potential blunder yet his tone remained polite despite the obvious confusion in his tone. “Also, I'm very sorry, I might have a misguided notion that the famous neurosurgeon in Paradis would be a--”

She turned her head to the side. “Some old, bearded guy with a bad sense of humor?” She couldn’t hold back the untimely humor laced with cynical sarcasm within her own voice.

She could see the other young man began to swallow a metaphorical knot nervously down his own throat and his trickling sweat didn’t help her observation either. “You’re not wrong actually. The original Dr. Jeager, my foster father, had been the famous one. Not me.”

“I’m sorry, Dr. Jeager, I mean Ackerman. I got confused.”

“No harm done.” Even she would be confused at her own status. She shook her head, dismissing her own earlier persistence in wanting to be addressed with her own maiden name again. A stranger doesn’t need to know her personal issues or the status of her marriage.

But she really needed to sort this shit out with the administration before more people get confused.

Nevertheless, she prompted for the attending personnel to continue his words.

“Thank you so much for scrubbing in. I’m Marcus Daniels, the attending physician for the patient. We apologize for this short notice but since it’s summer break, all of our neurosurgeons are away for volunteering or break. Rest assured, we have received the signed disclaimer from the patient’s next of kin, his mother, along with the referral from Marley’s Military Hospital. The paperwork has been received by the administration. We’re good to proceed with the emergency procedure.”

The raven-haired woman shook her head, disregarding the standard same ‘ole assurance from the Medical Officer who was tasked to accompany the Marleyan patient currently in between life and death on that table inside her Operation Theatre. Her patients’ lives take precedence before any incidents that could warrant a potential lawsuit. She gestured for the MO to follow suit as she put on the green scrubs and surgical cap available inside the prep room. “Walk with me, Daniels. Give me a brief of the patient. How long ago was the initial contact?”

“Male, 31, a military vet from Marley’s prized Special Ops Unit. The reported time of the initial impact was twelve hours ago. Patient’s BP is stable, X-ray did not display any shrapnels, bullet’s still in one piece but the bleeding unfortunately, had begun to spread to the patient’s medial temporal lobe since six hours ago….and...well….”

They stopped short just in front of the door that leads to the main wash area of the operating room. Her nose picked up the overwhelming scent of industrial disinfectant coming from behind that door. Her eyes leered back at the MO, her forehead creased in reaction to the other man’s trailing words. She did not like that tone or even the single last word of his sentence at all. “What is it?”

“Ma’am, the First Response team had to perform an emergency resuscitation and this could not be just an on-site training incident. There was an excessive amount of Paxil together with alcohol from the patient’s digestive tract. Patient was under the influence right before he went in to support the unit’s rookie training. Bloodwork confirmed this.” The young man, who looked like he’s only several years younger than she is, could only shook his head in absolute empathy.

Paxil and liquor are a deadly mix. The patient must have been aware of his own prescriptions. There was an immediate flash of concern upon her face before she pressed for a confirmation to her impulsive suspicion; asking, “C-PTSD? ‘Intentional’ incident?” She couldn’t possibly be discreet if she’s dealing with more than just the life of a war veteran on the line. An unstable patient with self-harming tendencies requires a much delicate approach especially if the injuries sustained by the patient would require a full invasive craniotomy to stop the source of bleeding from the bullet.

The MO shook his head in return. “We can’t rule that out or in yet without looking into the patient’s psych eval records. Those files are sealed by the Psychiatric unit in Marley, Dr. Jea-Ackerman. We’d need a referral from your Psychiatrist here to access those files after for the patient's recovery.”

“There’s no time to waste then.” There was a short pause in her words as she pressed a digital button on the room’s intercom system. “Nurse Rheinberger, Dr. Ackerman in OT-DM05. Code Blue. Requesting assistance to page Dr. Ian Dietrich, Psychiatry to support emergency neurosurgery a.s.ap. Over.”

She turned her head back to the young MO and inquired as a formality, even though she was very aware that the patient had been placed under anesthesia. “Patient’s name?”

“Uhm…” Daniels flipped open the paper folder in his hands and read the patient’s name out loud. “Braun, Reiner.”

She stopped dead in her tracks, her heart skipped not one but two immediate beats and she could feel it hitting hard against her chest. “Come again?”

“Reiner Braun, Dr. Ackerman. No middle name.”

There are a lot of people with the same name. “Birthdate?” It’s just not possible.

“August 1, 19xx.”

Her hands stood frozen against the door of the operation theater. From where she stood, she could see the motionless body hooked on multiple wires connecting to a life support system on top of her operation table from between the clear glass screens.

“Doctor?”

She looked back at the other man but not before blinking back the shock-induced tears gathered inside her eyelids. “Please get Dr. Dietrich here. Now. It would be against my protocol to operate on a patient with past or existing personal attachments without a senior physician’s supervision.”

“You know the patient?”

“Yes…He was...” Her words trailed unfinished, which only roused the other person’s curiosity although it was none of his business. “Just go. NOW.”

“Sorry, sorry!” The man quickly disappeared behind the main door in a flash leaving her behind with a much needed space and air to breathe.

Oh my God, Reiner. What happened to you?

She rushed towards the faucet and hurriedly splashed her face with the cold water just so she could hide the stubborn tears already running down her cheeks.

Out of all the times, why now? Why here? Why do their paths cross again after six years - with him; his life barely hanging on a thread right now on her very own operating table?

She can’t fuck this up. Never had she ever did before, but never had she ever performed a procedure on someone she personally knew. There are just too many reasons why and too little time for her to be caught in another mulling.

ReiKasa Modern AU Headcanon(s) #6

These two are workaholics; long shifts & over the weekend hours. So when they do get the chance to take a long overdue break, this two will go all out.

When they were younger, Reiner work hard and party harder. We're talking getting high-key wasted, can't remember his name, car keys or his clothes drunk. Meanwhile Mikasa's a social drinker who'll be content with just a bubbly or a martini, so she'll be the one who makes sure Reiner gets back to their hotel room in one piece. These two are the cool, hip couple and amazing dancers at any parties.

One time, Armin, Mikasa & Pieck had to drag a drunk Reiner & Jean from almost getting buried in the sandbox after falling down the Pirate ship doing the Titanic scene at the hotel's Kid's club, while Connie was already floating in the kiddie pool singing I Believe I Can Fly at the top of his lungs. Annie recorded the whole thing.

Reiner & Mikasa would spend their annual leaves on a long winter break straight into the New Year.

They'll usually ring in the new year with their friends at Niccolo's seaside bar & café. It has become an annual tradition five years after they graduated from highschool. They'll dine, wine & dance the night away together. Catching up on friends, exchanging news & they'll have their game night begin as soon as the refreshment starts to be served.

Each new year, there's always news to celebrate: someone's engagement, Master's or Doctorate's graduation, wedding or new additions. There's always a running bet on who's next to get hitched/pregnant as something fun the whole group will look forward to the next year.

One new year, Niccolo & Sasha also hosted a surprise engagement party for Reiner & Mikasa. That was the first night Reiner didn't get wasted.

10 minutes before midnight, Reiner would make sure to ask Mikasa to a slow dance, usually at a corner of the café's patio, holding each other close right before the countdown starts. As soon as the fireworks begin at midnight, Reiner & Mikasa would share a sweet kiss and whispers of "I love you to infinity & beyond" (Reiner loves his Buzz reference!) and "to many more years together."

They'll spend the next early morning just chilling & strolling by the beach, catching the first sunset of the new year. It would be rare for them not to catch Connie ending up at some random place with a bad hangover.

The tradition continues even when the babies start to enter the picture. But when the babies become toddlers, they decided that it was better to move the tradition's venue to their homes; each taking turns to host the NYE party every year.

If they're hosting, Reiner and the other dads would make his special buttermilk pancakes with bacons & sunny side ups. Mikasa & the other moms will get their morning yogas in before getting the kids up and ready for breakfast. Sasha & Niccolo would drop by with a basket full of pastries fresh from the oven.

Reiner & Mikasa would usually spend the rest of their New Year's day relaxing & catching a movie with the whole fam together. Gabi would usually pop in the first day of the new year to spend time with Reiner, Mikasa and their kids.

The Brauns then would usually spend the first weekend of the year away on a camping trip, yachting or go on a snowy mountain getaway before their busy work & school schedule begins again. Very often these trips are made together with Armin, Annie & their kids.

I'm very honored to know that the universes I've built through my stories have somewhat help give a (positive?) outlook from you towards the series. I've had fans appreciating both Reiner & Mikasa's complexity in canon more based on my interpretation. Readers who either am neutral or actually not a big fan of Mikasa fell in love with her more after reading my stories. I know that my stories have given my beloved characters the appreciation they deserve.

I have receive a lot of suggestions from my readers: to write on different ships, to write an OT3, to write something edgier & darker. I am flattered & will keep all suggestions in my 'to consider one day folder' inside my brain 😆

Honestly, I'm not a good dark content absorber, I truly doubt I can be good enough in writing darker, edgier genre. Canon is already dark, my fanon is the opposite haha

Truthfully, at the moment, I'm in a very happy place in writing: romance, erotic, fluff, family & parenthood, sprinkled with a healthy dose of angst and comfort - I feel enough. Because romance and erotic is my strength but I can’t do a good job in writing dark, edgier, super angsty ReiKasa fics, which is being written by the newer writers of this ship. So when new writers come into this ship’s fold, and even more so if that door of possibility was made possible from what I’ve shared with the world, it gives me immense joy in return to know that our OTP is actually growing. 5 years ago, I was alone. But today, we have our own family!

I am very, very sorry for the super, ultra delayed answer to your awesome Ask. I was working on your Ask few months back, saved it into drafts & got stacked further down in my list and totally flew across my mind. I am very sorry, for this blunder!

Before anything, I would love to personally welcome you to this humble abode & I hope the ReiKasa fire is still burning there. ReiKasa is rare but I can assure you, a wholesome ship. Fics

There are quite a few fics with ReiKasa as the primary ship but the following are most memorable for me:

1) As Long as Everybody Pays Their Share by nenea (AO3)

General Audience. This, I believe is the first (albeit platonic) ReiKasa fic I have ever read. It's a horror & thriller fic. The fic that sparked my insatiable curiosity towards this ship. It describes their dynamic in canon very well. It took me down the ReiKasa rabbit hole & i have never wanted to escape ever since.

2) Pantyraiders of the 104th by hooliganism (AO3)

General Audience. It's a fluff & sweet fic I love. Takes place in trainee years with young!Reiner & young!Mikasa. Contains first kiss.

3) Violence and Sweetness at the Core by bittodeath (AO3)

General Audience. A sweet, feel good oneshot read. Also takes place in the trainee years where they’ve been in a secret relationship. Sweet & innocent.

More stories are available in the Mikasa Ackerman/Reiner Braun tag on Ao3, though ReiKasa is mentioned or written as secondary couple in the stories. Not much emphasis but there’s still something to enjoy there :)

Obviously I see you as the queen of ReiKasa, I would have never even considered this a ship when I first watched AOT/SNK, but now I love it so much! One of my favorite scene of yours was when Gabi walked in on Reiner and Mikasa in As You Are. Seriously I think about this from time to time cuz it was hilarious.

You humbled me with your support. Always, dear 💓 This OTP is so obscure & rare to the fandom & I am that dumbass who saw that possibility haha but not even once I ever questioned or regretted my devotion. That ending of AYA’s ch.11 was absolutely unplanned & the initial vision was for Colt & Lord Takeshi to notice the strong magnetic attraction between the newlyweds during the war room strategy discussion. But it didn’t happen haha Though I’m glad Gabi’s innocence and cluelessness goes so well with the indirect humor(s) in AYA. (but ch.13 would see a very emotional Gabi eep! and we’ll find out soon enough)

For some odd reason, the subtle ‘arm-brushing’ in manga’s ch.136 gave me newer ideas on ‘reigniting’ that silent, physical pull between these two. I envision that Reiner & Mikasa would have this super intense ‘zing’ through light touches/grazing haha *gets sent to horny jail

I don't want to sound ridiculous but Splinter Wolf OST made me think of Reikasa 😅 I don't like associating OSTs with ships but I can't help but think of them while listening to the song.

Hello Nonnie! You have a good ear 🌟 I've only played through the whole album so I won't be able to provide a more thorough feedback on the OST as a whole. Based on the name alone, Splinter Wolf would give off a Jaw Titan vibe upon first impression but the rhythm & beats too reminded me of the nuances felt in Hiroyuki Sawano's AOTF-s2 (the score that was played during Mikasa's first appearance in Final Season), I do see how this reminds you of Mikasa & Reiner in his AT form. The bass guitar riff for Splinter Wolf really hits differently considering we're entering Marley's environment in Final Season. It's definitely a song that boosts fighting spirit & I could imagine this accompanying the alliance's battle scenes.

When Hannah Grace's vocals comes in the second half of the score, though, it really brings back the vibe from S1's DOA without a doubt. (It somehow makes me resonate the song more with Gabi's character in the second half when I really listen to the lyrics carefully).

Personally, for me the score that also reminds me of ReiKasa would be Nightmare, it just automatically clutched at my feels upon the first break as it starts out with an air of uncertainty, accompanied by a wave of dramatic strings just before it delves through a chaotic ambience comprised of haunting vocal chants - throughout the whole song, I could genuinely sense the despair and darkness that Reiner and Mikasa each have to overcome respectively in the final arc, the built up synths that resembles an erratic heartbeat on the verge of breaking right before it closes into a hollow echo of emptiness; I could envision a story delivered throughout that 3 mins and 41 seconds. (I am also not surprised if MAPPA uses this song for The Rumbling especially the beginning of the second part of the song).

All in all, I really enjoyed sharing my thoughts on the OST too. Thank you for the Ask! ;)

It's the first time, but, I can not get out the idea about an scenario nsfw where Mikasa and Reiner are having sex without condoms. Before Reiner comes inside her, Mikasa screams: Reiner, get out! Hi Anon! Thanks for the Ask. I'm trying to understand the context that you're delivering: in your hc, are you referring to canonverse AU or Modern AU?

You know it's really cool if you have a different kind of hc of when these two would be knocking the boots. But another person's hc is not entirely unacceptable either. Your interpretation of their dynamics might be different than mine but that doesn't mean both are invalid? Fanons can be anything, so play around with it 😉 You have the right to disagree with my fanon the way I can disagree with yours. You have the right to build your own ideal AU, the same way I’ve built mine. My AUs make me & my readers happy, even if you find yourself disagreeing with them :) So, go crazy with that thought! 🙆

In my modern AU, these two would definitely be on birth control and still have several pregnancy scares 😂 That is not entirely wrong either.

E.g newer readers to the ships prefer newer writers' darker, edgier representation of both Reiner & Mikasa but in my fic AUs I prefer to focus on the more regulated personas, a more idealistic approach, which is as equally valid as the newer writers' 😆
