Summer of Fourth Year

“Hermione Jean Granger, I am talking to you!”

“I’m done understanding mum! You don’t like who I am with magic but magic is a big part of who I am. I am not quitting school so I can become a dentist like you and dad, I’m not going to take over the family business.”

“I am done having this conversation, you are underage Hermione, if we say you’re not going back to that freakshow of a school you’re not going!”

Hermione runs up the stairs to her room, locks the door and begins packing her trunk and a suitcase. Hermione's mum starts banging on the locked door, “Let me in Hermione! When did my little girl decide that she no longer needs her parents? When did you start being ungrateful with what we have tried doing for you.”

“Hermione listened to your mother,” Her father had now joined in trying to get into her room, “We have given you four years, you don’t belong in that world. You need to grow up. You need to go back to school and go to university. That is the end of the discussion.”

“If you are so disappointed in how I am turning out then I apologise but I am a witch, it is who I am. I am made up of magic and if I can’t learn how to control it then it could be dangerous. You used to understand this!”

“You have had four years to learn control and you haven’t had a magical accident in that time. You have learned control now you need to get back to the real world.”

Hermione’s door swung open and her mother came through and walked over to take the trunk away from her daughter. “Let go of it Hermione, you are done. Do you hear me!”

“Let go of my trunk,” Hermione’s magic started to come to her defence, you could see it dancing along her skin, “Mum! Let go! Just let me leave and you’ll never have to see me again.”

Hermione’s dad marched over and grabbed his daughter around the waist and pulled her away. “Hermione, that's enough, we are trying to help you. What are you going to do with your life when you come to the end of the line in that world? You’ll have no real qualifications and you’ll be stuck doing god knows what with your life.”

“LET GO OF ME! LEAVE ME ALONE!” Hermione’s magic released and knocked both her mum and dad away.

“Jean!” Her dad yelled to his wife, he ran over to her and she was bleeding, “What have you done!”

“Dad please, I’m sorry.” Hermione started to walk over to her parents.

“Get away from us!” Her dad looked terrified, “Leave, and don’t ever come back here Hermione. You are not our daughter anymore.”

Yes yes...it's not Dramione.

But I've told you great stories should be appreciated, regardless of the pairing.

Besides Draco, Theo and Tom, Regulus is also one of my favorites to see paired with Hermione. Their mental genius alone would make them a brilliant couple.

Hermione, Harry and Draco have been given the task of clearing out the residual dark magic left by Voldermort's horcruxes. When they get to the cave, they expect to find a very dead Regulus Black.

Instead, he has somehow been in a magical stasis for 20 years.

Now, as he attempts to acclimate himself to this new world, he finds that being able to live freely, with emotions, without having to be the perfect heir, is something he greatly desires.

And with the help of a vivacious Gryffindor witch, who is unlike anyone he has ever met, Regulus is ready to live the life he's always wanted. And anyone who has a problem with that will be reminded of how he dared to defy the Dark Lord.

Most of us fanfiction writers have heard this, in some form or another, at least once or twice:

"Write for yourself! Comments and Kudos shouldn't matter."

Sure, that is one angle to look at it. But if we were only writing it for ourselves - why would we post it? Why would go through the painstaking hours it takes to edit our works, culminate the correct tags, and post our stories to the universe (where it may or may not even be read?)

I can't speak for other author's personally. But for me, posting my stories is a way to connect with others, and to extend a branch to those who may find my stories as an escape from the monotony and day-to-day grind of life.

Yes, my one-shots may not live for long at the top of the search results and may only see about 200-500 views, with even less kudos and 1-2 small comments.

But when it comes to long WIPs that I've spent a large portion of my free time on, comments serve as a life-line; as a boost to carry on knowing that readers are not only, well, reading the work, but also enjoy it!

Yesterday, I received the most heartfelt comment (as I was lying on my couch with debilitating back pain, mind you) and I was brought to tears that someone cared enough to take the time to pour their thoughts and feelings about my work into a wonderful, mindblowing comment.

Now, I'm not saying that everyone should immedietly run to their favorate works and write a novella-length comment. All I'm trying to say is to think about the works they are reading and to show some love for the authors passion.

Comments help me, us continue on! (I've opened the next chapter document and continued working on this specific work - not that I wasn't planning to... it just gave me that extra little boost to continue to pick away at it with more energy that I otherwise would not have!)
