took a bit for me to figure out how to put an image in the askbox but here she is! this is Renee Chancon and her stand [Electric Blue]. she's based on Regine Chassagne, one of the lead singers of Arcade Fire and her stand is based on an Arcade Fire song. she's also Haitian like Regine Chassagne is. her stand is mostly useful in a crowd, since its power casts an illusion that makes everyone in a crowd look just like her, so she can easily hide from anyone pursuing her. this only works on one to three people at a time and if the person she's targeting with her stand touches anyone with the illusion on them it reveals their true appearance.

her stand has also evolved as she changed as a person and became more comfortable with people seeing the real her. at first it looked like a nudibranch, specifically this one:

its powers were different at first too, rather than projecting an illusion of herself outward it let her become invisible. I feel like her and Koichi and Lucy Steel would get along and bond over having stands that evolve because of personal growth.

When it comes to Regine is a hard toll, because I've been in that exact same position of hers of defending a toxic ex partner that hurt me multiple times and taking all the responsability by myself and defend his shitty behavior. This does not mean I defend her 100% but it's HARD to go into a black and white situation of also treating her as if she's worse than Win. Dude he blamed her miscarriage, my toxic ex and many bullies and abusers I had blamed me for shit I didn't do or weren't my fault and out of my control and hurt my friends or use me as a emotional scapegoat as a way of making me feel awful.

Also I have read rumours of how Regine has been yelling at Win before getting on stage. And some pictures I've seen of her right after the first article was published to be barely holding it together. I don't want to confirm anything but I remember it clearly trying to confront people like Win and just being forced to perform or spoil them as much as they wanted to. She has to leave him for good despite what are the circumstances and face reality and accept that she is being mistreated and she did a terrible choice to stay by his side

Win Butler needs some time away from society, 5 people (another person came up, plus another one more since a twitter thread also came up and that makes 6 in total) because he did something terrible. and I can imagine his son and his wife being in danger bc of someone like him. Alcohol does not excuse SA AND NEVER WILL.

The only thing I do still do is listen to a small extract of Age of Anxiety because that is the only thing that kept me going through 2022 and without it I can't be functional at all (Luckily I have it in an MP3 file so, I'm no longer streaming their songs)

Arcade Fire helped me cope with unaliving and taught me how important was to channel my emotions through art, even the ugly ones no one liked in paintings and stories.

Not sure if it's because I am a neurodivergent person (ADHD+looking for an autism diagnosis) that went through a lot of trauma and I held onto them so badly. But I try and avoid listening to them mostly bc I feel disgusting and even worse, however I could listen to them solely throughout the day. I only keep that specific song bc of burnout and shit is the one that makes my brain focus and barely functional.

What bothers me and should be concerning is how people and companies are willing to give him money. The whole Ticketmaster fiasco is proof of that, or how some fans are still attending concerts and shit not believing the victims and treating WB as God in Earth and contributing to rape culture by ignoring all what he did. He'll continue to do this bc he is no longer a small indie boy, he's a white dude in his 40's making music for Sony and has won multiple prizes including the grammy. This whole fiasco just shows how he benefits from this rotten and corrupt system that allows him to still produce music.

I separate Win Butler from Arcade Fire because they did the art, not him. Haiti? By Regine Chassagne. Will Butler? He is an amazing singer and composer. Richie, Sarah, Tim, Jeremy, all built AF for what it was. But as for now, I can only hope Win Butler pays for what he did and every victim can find some peace after this.

i loved arcade fire so much. now i can’t even listen to arcade fire anymore and i am so fucking heartbroken.

even now i still can’t believe that win did what he did. how could someone who seems so socially conscious do something like that? arcade fire’s song porno seems so disgustingly ridiculous now. i hate win butler now, i hate him so much.

i think i understand the concept of heartbreak a bit better now. it’s when you love something so, so much and then suddenly you realise you can’t love it anymore, instead you hate it. heartbreak is a swift decline from overwhelming love to overwhelming hate. and that’s how i feel about arcade fire.

obviously the rest of arcade fire cannot be blamed for win’s actions. régine deserves so much better, and she didn’t have to defend him. but win’s sexual misconduct has taken a toll of many people’s perceptions of arcade fire, including my own. i will never see them in the same way again.

people talk about trying to “separate the art from the artist”. my dad (and hella ignorant mum) still listen to arcade fire. in my dad’s case it’s because he’s kinda  managed to separate the music from win butler. (in my mum’s case it’s because she doesn’t fucking care and only knows like two of their songs, she always insults arcade fire’s music when i play it, but suddenly she’s gushing about how much she likes their music… but that’s a whole other rant). i can’t help but wonder if “separating the art from the artist” is ok, rather than having to let go altogether. i mean, michael jackson also did some horrible things and people still play his music everywhere.

i’ve really wanted to discuss this topic with people for a while but nobody has been interested. is it ok to listen to an artist’s music if the artist themselves has harmed people, as long as their harmful actions/opinions aren’t reflected in their music? i first started considering the topic when i learnt about morrissey’s political views. i guess i’ve been fixating on this question because of my moral ocd. 

as i said before, i am very heartbroken. to be honest, i don’t think i’m gonna get over this. i guess i’m going to have to say goodbye to arcade fire.

my heart goes out to those who were directly impacted by win’s sexual misconduct. their heartbreak must be infinitely greater than my own. they are all so brave to have spoken out and i really hope they’re doing ok.
