You are quite correct, these highly overstuffed LPs are usually deployed by their musicians to be a firm path towards a much greater legitimacy, though Arcade Fire had other reasons for their Reflektor. I mean, they didn't have to prove anything back then, they already became a rock institution by that point, but you do understand their need for such a record. Actually, I would claim Arcade Fire always wanted to achieve something similar to Reflektor, i.e. a concept album. However, they know there's something inherently weird about the latter type of discs, so they embrace this by going into a complete lack of editing. Sure, Reflektor might be one of their most bloated efforts, yet that's one of the qualities of the platter.
