Hello!!! Thank you for the tag @eclectic-sassycoweyes 💕 Since there were a handful of folks interested in my answer to @she-walked-away’s Tarlos Ask Game for the question: 12. Who has the better playlist? Specifically related to cumbia & reggaeton the boys canonically listen to and artists I think they’d listen to, I thought it would be fun to make a little playlist of some of my favorites that I think the boys like!

A few of the songs from the list I think they dance around the living room to:

TK is OBSESSED with Bomba Estéreo!!! As every human should be, honestly! 😍 He loves the way they mix traditional cumbia beats with electronica, hip hop and tropicália. He also really appreciates the way they use their music to address climate change and as a mechanism to honor the earth and the rich history and traditions of Colombia.

Hehe one of the songs playing at the rehearsal dinner!!! Selena is the queen for a reason!

Bad Bunny is the most popular musical artist in the world for a reason! There are no skips on this record!!! TK keeps it on regular rotation in the ambulance and Tommy …doesn’t hate it 🤭 Carlos sat in the Ticketmaster queue for 2.5 hours so he could get TK tickets to see Bad Bunny play the Moody Center, they went with Paul & Marjan!

Calle 13!!!!! Legendary, revolutionary Puerto Rican hip hop group!!! So, so, so important in modern Latin American music. I headcanon that they were one of the first groups Carlos listened to that wasn’t approved by his parents. He still gets a little thrill every time he listens to them.

Bad Bunny's DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS is fantastic! It’s a beautiful tribute to Puerto Rico that intentionally centers the diverse musical styles and voices on the island. Bad Bunny brings traditional Puerto Rican genres like plena and la música jíbara to the forefront, mixes them with the classic salsa and modern dembow of the Caribbean, and adds in his trademark Latin trap throughout. There are many young Puerto Rican musicians like Los Pleneros de la Cresta featured on the album, as well as veterans of the past like El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, whose 1975 song “Un Verano en Nueva York” is sampled on NUEVAYoL. Lyrically, Bad Bunny honors the Puerto Rican diaspora, calls for resisting political efforts to make Puerto Rico a U.S. state, and advocates for supporting the Puerto Rican people and their home. Bad Bunny is a global superstar but it’s more than evident that Puerto Rico is his home. To top everything off, this past week he announced that he’ll be doing a residency in Puerto Rico — No Me Quiero Ir De Aquí (I Don’t Want To Leave Here) — later this summer.

La revista destacó que es una pieza histórica y la primera vez que le dedican tantas páginas a mujeres de la música de reggaetón y urbana

La popular revista musical Rolling Stone publicó hoy una entrevista destacando a cinco artistas puertorriqueñas quienes están revolucionando el género urbano: Chesca, PaoPao, RaiNao, Villano Antillano y Young Miko.

Estas cinco mujeres del género urbano, quienes ya suenan en países internacionales, son tendencias en las redes y han creado un movimiento de mujeres poderosas.

Su denominador común es su estilo individual, presencia escénica, su empoderamiento y han colaborado unas con las otras como el tema más reciente “Dale Play” entre RaiNao y PaoPao.

La revista destacó que es una pieza histórica y es la primera vez que le dedican tantas páginas a mujeres de la música de reggaetón y urbana.

En diciembre 2022, las cinco artistas puertorriqueñas se reunieron en el Taller Comunidad La Goyco, en la calle Loíza, en Santurce, donde se llevó a cabo la sesión de fotográfica en un mismo día.

Since 2018, women and LGBTQ folx in Puerto Rico have been powering a scene that’s been virtually unheard of in the male-dominated world of reggaeton and urbano.
