HAPPY BIRTHDAY, once again, to DIPPER AND MABEL!

For this birthday, another hike amongst the redwoods on a misty day. This time, they're meeting up with Bigfoot, who became a friend during an encounter on the Stan Twins' birthday back in 2021 (see here, here, and here.)

I would very much like to go hiking in the redwoods again; it's a magical place!

(As mentioned before, I’ve loosely based my Bigfoot design on the life-sized figure – made of grizzly fur I believe – at the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine (my photos here).  Only, I’ve tried to make his fur a bit more redwoods-colored, and my take on his skin color is a sort of moss/lichen green, perfect for blending into the woods.)

I take the 2017 Chevy Bolt on a 480mi/36 hour road trip for work. How does it handle the subzero temperatures and snow? P.S. I did the whole trip with underinflated tires (32psi vs. 38psi) which negatively impacts range.

P.S. Even the first generation electric cars cope quite well with longer journeys in winter conditions... of course, if the driver knows what and how to do while traveling...

Well, it's finally complete! Biggest thanks as always to my wonderful husband who was always encouraging and enthusiastic (and took some great photos imo). And thanks to my family who was willing to buy me a cardigan quantity of the exact yarn I asked for as my birthday present.

It's taken me over a year to complete this project, the most complex one I've ever taken on. There were multiple points where I was worried I was putting in all this work for something that wasn't going to fit me or look good but I'm in love with it. I love the structure the cables give this cardigan, I love the color, I even love the buttons I ended up choosing (mother of pearl).

Lots of firsts here: first cardigan, first piecewise construction, first waist shaping. Just goes to show that if you love a project but you're worried you don't have the skills to make it, you should really just go for it!

Nature photography often involves a great deal of planning and advance research to find the right conditions, etc to capture a good image. Sometimes all the planning in the world still isn’t enough. That said, any photographer who tells you they’ve never had a certain degree of just dumb luck is a far better photographer than yours truly or pulling your leg. In this instance I have to own up to some definite dumb luck. My wife and I went to Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park hoping to see some Elk bulls sparing in the meadow there. However, my hopes weren’t high as it was raining and I’d heard that the powers-that-be in the park were scheduled to burn the meadow as they do every few years. This turned out to be true as the meadow was still smoking when we got there. Add in the very rainy conditions and we saw no elk to photograph. What I did not expect was how many glorious patches of fall color there would be. I took a short hike and came away with a couple pretty images.
