#Realistic but so disappointing

The Kin as a concept is probably my favourite organisation of the books. The sheer power of a secret network of runaways from the magical church who have to change identities to hide their incredibly slow aging. They are also a game-changer in the way they approach magic hierarchy in the Westlands. I love that experience is so important for them and that they honed their skills instead of trying to accumulate more power. And their growth in confidence when confronted with the figures they had revered and feared from afar is just delicious.

In some ways, they seem to belong in Ursula K Le Guin's world and I adore that

Holy shit I love your Dirk interpretations, it's so true and I could talk about this shit forever. I feel like another part of his character that people seem to forget (along with Roxy for some reason) is that he's from the future in solitude in an apocalyptic wasteland. I just see that part of his character always removed which is disappointing because I feel like that's a pretty big part, especially regarding his themes around technology, his brother's theme of Time, his own isolation, and how he plays in the vastness of the universe and spacetime.

But absolutely. I certainly understand where the lack of discussion over his isolation + upbringing comes from, considering a majority of the fanbase that I have seen builds their ideas based on their own version of postcanon. I’m not entirely sure how that would be fixed, but certainly even in the somewhat recent past I would see a lot more content regarding his upbringing both literally and symbolically. I don’t have much to add regarding the things you’ve mentioned, because they just are what they are. Dirk being confined to a singular room left to him by a father figure he never met, in a future where the only other person left on the planet is someone he cannot pursue a relationship of because of himself, with purely 3 robots to keep him companion, one being an exact replica of his own brain who is *also* trapped inside a pair of glasses, is about as literal as it gets to me.

The contrast to me involving the flooded, organic world in comparison to the little speckle of Dirk’s apartment packed with the dude and his technics is not only a representation of his isolation and entrapment within himself, but also of his lack of control. I think his obsession with & themes of control are a direct product in the case of Dirk specifically *of* this kind of upbringing. His themes of technology are also related to his themes around control. So much of his character is actually revolved around this to me like so much. Dirk is so deeply disconnected from humanity in every way and so much of his character + symbolism is based around that.

It doesn’t even have to be about the symbolism or anything though. It’s just pretty *interesting* in the literal sense that he lives in the middle of the ocean in the future. There’s not only a lot to theorise on to do with his young life there, but on how it might affect him in the way he acts for the rest of his life. The latter part is probably what I see mentioned the most by people talking about Dirk regarding this, I’m surprised I don’t see more discussion on the former too though. I really ought to actually talk more about Homestuck stuff on here. I will do it myself.

Roxy & Dirk’s relationship is largely ignored though because there is a narrative a certain demographic spreads that Dirk resented and blamed Roxy for her interest in him, and thus too many people believe that their relationship was or would continue to be an abusive one. Realistically, I believe it’s important to acknowledge that the way Roxy treated Dirk regarding his homosexuality wasn’t right while still acknowledging the obvious amount of respect and admiration Dirk had for Roxy. I mean we have a huge piece of dialogue from their post trickster mode conversations on the quest beds from Dirk purely stating how he feels about Roxy that people completely ignore somehow. I think this usually happens to characters that are women though. I know everyone says it, but it is true. Jane gets the exact same treatment of boiling her down to solely her negative aspects. The things I see completely mischaracterising both of them are horrific.

I mean how much more explicit can it get that their relationship is obviously very important to Dirk? But I digress. I think the best or I should say “most interesting” interpretations of their relationship usually come from DirkRoxy shippers actually.

I would be interested to hear about Dirk’s relation to his brother’s theme of time though. I don’t have any thoughts on this and I don’t recall ever hearing anyone talk about it before. If you or anyone else would be willing to enlighten me I’d be thrilled.

I dunno if it needs to be said because I'm pretty sure folks who use it are already aware, but I’m likely going to be taking a step away from the Timestamp Archive from here on out. I’m afraid it’s been a very big time drain and was getting exponentially worse the past few months, and it was really making me burn out. Things are a little quieter on the server right now, so I feel like now is the best time to take a step back so I don't feel quite as bad leaving folks in the lurch, especially since we don't have Twitter update admins anymore. I was able to hit my one year mark for the Timestamp Archive, and I wanted to keep going at least until I hit that point.

I’ll keep the archive up (obviously) but I won't be updating things frequently, if at all. I tossed a couple notes on it from today's stream and from Phil's stream last Friday, but things will not be as thoroughly updated as they were in the past. I'm very sorry, I hope folks understand.

I was actually vibing with the episode till 1:10:00. I would've swallowed the amnesia as well if they handled it smoothly. But really framing a murder and giving me an illogical, unrealistic plan of a delulu man?! How is anything going to make sense by the end of this show?

I would've tuned in next week even if the cliffhanger this week was dry as the Sahara dessert. The episode could've ended on just just Hong Hae in opening her eyes with Baek Hyunwoo by her side and I would've been there ready with my tissue box cheering these two on.

The episode has so many to die for scenes. All of them have been grossly over shadowed by the ending. No one's talking about them cause everyone's either angry or uneasy about the end of the episode (rightfully so!).

I love... love love love BOTW Zelink [All my followers pretend to be shocked] and I'd take anything in TOTK to give a hint they have gotten close again after the calamity, and they spent every moment together these last few years.

But Zelink is not going to be canon. And it just makes me a little sad thinking of the people who are hyping themselves up for that to be the case.

You can very much argue that romantic subtext was so present in certain games, it might as well have just been romantic text. Which is very true! I think you'd be hard pressed to look at Link and Zelda in Skyward Sword or Spirit Tracks and say there's nothing going on there. But Nintendo has always had a layer of subtly when it comes to these things. We've never seen Link and Zelda kiss. Nor them explicitly refer to one another with romantic terms or suggest they have a preexisting relationship. It's been like this since the start of the series all the way through to BOTW.

I don't think Nintendo has ever outright confirmed why Link never ends up with a romantic partner canonically, but my best guess is that it's the same reason Link is androgynous. He's designed to resonate with you. He's a blank slate, who's personality is just as much determined by your own actions as it is set in stone. I'd argue in BOTW especially more so than in ANY other LoZ game. To give Link a canon significant other would kind of defeat the purpose of that, as well as potentially isolate people of different sexualities or who simply do not like romance.

Maybe TOTK will break this tradition. It's impossible to know yet. But as it stands, I would not get your hopes up. Be excited for subtext! Be ready to eat those crumbs fed to us like greedy pigeons. Just don't go into TOTK expecting marriage, children, Link being the king etc, and then be disappointed and angry when that's simply not something that happens. Because it never has happened before and probably won't happen now after decades.

RANT ABOUT PEOPLES WEIRD ATTITUDE ABOUT SHANE STARDEW VALLEY INCOMING!!!

saw people complaining about shane today and saying he is a bad and awful husband and they divorced him after seeing his room and that he becomes boring after he starts getting therapy because the interesting thing about him is his struggle with addiction and after you "fix him" what's the point of being with him And just?? Why?? Did you even marry him?? Like?? I dunno, people are allowed to have opinions on characters but so many peoples' opinions are just?? Really bad and rooted deeply in ableism and misconceptions about mental health/addiction and are super saviory??

I have said this a thousand times but you can't fix people. That's literally not how people work. You can, however, be there for people and try and create a safe environment for them to be able to help themselves!! AND THATS EXACTLY EHAT FUCKING HAPPEMS IN STARDEW!! Shane gets help ON HIS OWN because he is being supported by both his family and the farmer. And to see that just fucking fly over peoples heads makes me so mad because DID WE PLAY THE SAME FUCLING GAME?? YOU DONT FIX SHIT!! YOU ACT AS PART OF A SUPPORT SYSTEM!! (Which is very important but like) YOU AS A SINGULAR PERSON CANT FIX PEOPLE!!

I also just hate the "I can fix them" attitude because, at least in this specific situation, the people saying this are the same people who divorce him because his room is ugly or because he is implied to relapse and still is depressed??? It feels like the same thing as when someone has "spread kindness!" or "love each other!" in their bio and then is the most rancid hateful person ever? The room thing in particular makes me mad because LIKE WHAT DID YUOU THINK IT WAS GOING TO LOOK LIKE?? YOU SAW HIS ROOM AT MARNIE'S, WHAT MADE YOU THINK HIS ROOM IN YOUR HOUSE WAS GOING TO BE ORGANIZED AND SPOTLESS???

Idk like, again, you can dislike Shane and even regret marrying him. He's not very nice to you until you really get his hearts up there so he comes off as rude and abrasive. You don't HAVE TO LIKE HIM!! But so many people just spout hateful shit and it's like god, I hope you never have anyone in your life who suffers from mental illness because even though Shane is a video game character, the stuff you're saying and the ideas you have surrounding addiction and mental health are super toxic and weird and I hope no real person ever has to be subjected to them.

The ending of Hazbin Hotel was abysmal, just the last 2 episodes in general tbh. I'm so beyond disappointed. I mean the whole show disappointed me but the execution was not there, absolutely zero flow. We waited 4 years for a pile of shit. Would have rather waited years longer and had an actually finished and even halfway refined show. But that's what happens I guess.
