Just read The LA BB murder cases, Mello´s Narration was comedic gold, and it inspired me to doodle these guys!

I based Mello's nails from a picture of Lady Gaga and I referenced Near's Dorama's outfit!

I'm reading death note for the first time (I've watched the anime before) and I have one criticism for Light's planning

When he was followed by the FBI, he decided that he has to get rid of him to be safe

But when he was bugged, he just pretended to be normal

According to Raye Pember, there was no suspicion on Light specifically

Why did he react more violently to the tailing than the cameras?

Okay so this is long, and unrealistic, but this is why I think Spock could catch Kira and survive

Okay, so, the key component of ‘would someone catch Kira’ is if they would do the Lind L. Taylor stunt. Are they able to narrow it down to the Kanto region of Japan? Do they piss off Light enough that he starts making mistakes? 

Now honestly I don’t think Spock would pull the Lind L. Taylor stunt because of his respect for life. THAT BEING SAID there are other ways to narrow it down. I think his telepathy could play a big role in this. For example: when all the Vulcans on the Intrepid died and he felt it. Or in TMP when he could sense the probe/Kirk. I think his telepathy COULD potentially allow him to narrow it down. 

Excluding telepathy, I think he could still narrow it down. He obviously would make the same connection L did to the first murder and discover Light is in Japan. The only thing is: without the Lind L. Taylor stunt Light doesn’t get scared. He doesn’t reveal that he has access to police information and doesn’t taunt L, and without that it’s almost impossible to narrow it down to him. 

THAT BEING SAID I do think he would piss off Light (see: the squire of gothos, Spock is an annoying little shit) even without the death row criminal, and he’d announce on television that Kira has a childish philosophy and would give an INCREDIBLE speech. Like “Kira is illogical and petulant, a child playing at a false idea of justice”. A real ‘I understand but I do not approve’ moment. You get the idea. Now this would piss off Light, but he would be unable to kill Spock because of the lack of name. Instead of playing this only in the Kanto region of Japan Spock does this nationally in the hope of scaring Kira, in forcing him to make a mistake and revealing himself. He uses his own face to test the limits of the Death Note, and learns that Kira is unable to kill him. 

Now Light is mad that this guy has the gall to lecture him about ethics and he can’t even kill him! Then it goes like in normal Death Note, Light hacks into the police database to kill Spock, and the whole student vs hourly rate happens because Light is dumb. Now Spock knows that 1. Kira is in fact a student and 2. He has access to police information. Spock is able to figure out the general area based on what police station/computer/mainframe/however hacking works gets hacked. Now the same kind of FBI stuff happens, Raye Pember happens, and finally Spock narrows down his suspicions to Light. 

Now, this is where we deviate from the Death Note canon. L definitely milks the whole ‘is Light Kira?’ question because of his love of the game. Finally, a worthy opponent! Someone on his level! Someone he can relate to! He knows Light is Kira but doesn’t make any moves without evidence. He lies to Light’s father to spare his feelings, and definitely tiptoes around the whole surveillance aspect in order to keep Yagami on the case. 

Spock doesn’t give a shit about that. We don’t even need the college arc. Spock’s not going to alter his numbers, lying about “I’m only 5% sure” so people stay on the case. He knows it’s Light after the Raye Penber shit and fucking gets him. Does a classic Spock mindmeld like when he got that guy through the wall to open the door, or when he confirmed that Kirk was really himself in the Turnabout Intruder. “Oh, but Spock wouldn’t just mindmeld with someone willy nilly, he’d never do it for an interrogation–”

He asks Light if he could see his mind, and Light does the classic “Damn it! He got me!” because if he sees the inside of Light’s brain all he’ll see is Kira. And if he refuses, it’s practically a confession. Light spirals and does an internal monologue for like six minutes and Spock’s fucking gottem. 

He turns him over to the authorities, finds the Death Note after rooting around in Light’s mind and burns it to shreds, and Ryuk probably gets bored with legal procedures and kills Light himself. Misa doesn’t ever get involved and her and Rem live happily ever after, and Spock not only solves the Kira case but slays while doing it. 

Tldr; if Spock can catch alien Jack the Ripper, he can solve the Kira case

you know how light used the folder insert thing to confuse raye pember and make him write the names of the other fbi agents on death note paper except he didn’t see it was death note paper bc of the filter folder thing?

cool so like has anyone else tried doing that with celebrity autographs like could you pretend the other blanks in the sleeve are for other celebs like in an autograph book but then you unfold it to reveal they’ve agreed to a contract? i’m not saying it’s legally binding but it would be a funny prank to say the least

Good Girl

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen Raye Pember die.

My eyes sting and I press my eyelids shut for a good minute or two as I sink back into the couch I shared with The World’s Greatest Detective, L. I bring my feet up on the couch, pressing them against my chest as I exhale sharply. Even though I had my eyes shut, I could feel his wide eyes on me.

“Miss Uehara, if you’re feeling too tired to continue I am allowing you to leave. I can take care of this on my own.”

Eyes still closed I raise a finger at him, prompting him to pause his thoughts or even discard his suggestion.

“I’m alright, Detective. Can we take a break though? Just a few minutes, I want to take my eyes off of the screens so I can have a fresher view of it.”

“That’s alright, you can go ahead and take a break. I’ll be right here.”

“Take a break with me.”

I open my eyes and meet his gaze, the shadows under his eyes making his stare sharper than he intended.

“Just a few minutes, it’s going to help you, too. We can just sit here and talk.” I suggested, but it came out more as a plea than anything.

He scans me with his shadowed eyes, pondering my suggestion.

“Alright, fifteen minutes then. Does that work for you?”

“That’s plenty enough, thanks.” 

I peel my eyes away from him as I reach into my jacket pocket for a lollipop. It could have been the way I was almost begging to take a break from watching the surveillance footage that gave it away, but it was very apparent that I was on edge. I know that he noticed.

My nails scratch against the candy’s wrapper as I try to open it.

“What the fuck...” I mutter to myself in growing frustration as the wrapper stays stuck to the lollipop.

“Let me.” L reaches out a hand to me, offering to open it. I hand it to him with a frown and he takes it from me, holding it daintily with only his thumb and forefinger.

“You seem to be on edge, Miss Uehara, are you getting frustrated over the latest developments in this case?” He asks as he wraps his other thumb and forefinger around the base of the lollipop’s wrapper. Once he gets a firm grip around it, he twists the stick around and the wrapper crunches open.

“Frustrated is one thing, I’m… Angry? Confused? Dispirited” I shake my head. “It’s a lot of feelings to process, a mixture of emotions I have to keep in check or my judgment could be clouded. Not a good look for a Detective or an Investigator to be taken away by their emotions too much, that’s what I believe.”

I turn to him and he’s already peeled off the wrapper from the lollipop.

“It’s just as I thought then, considering the scale of this case is nothing compared to what you used to handle at the NPA. Here.” He offers the lollipop back to me, holding it upright by his thumb and forefinger.

“I don’t want it anymore.” I huffed sullenly.

“Please don’t be stubborn, Miss Uehara.”

He stares at me, and despite the piercing abyss that were his dark eyes, there seems to be a gentleness in his gaze. 

“This is an incredibly high profile case after all. The fact that you’re here persevering despite your conflicted emotions and managing them as healthily as you can is nothing short of commendable. Now here, it’s yours. I helped unwrap it for you, please take it.” He reaches the candy closer towards me that it was pressed against my lips, his face still sporting the usual stoicity he’s associated with. 

“You’re doing your best, you’re aware that you need help and you should accept it.”

The light from the screens made him look uncanny, hauntingly captivating.

I gingerly open my mouth and he places the lollipop snug against my tongue. My eyes widen as his thumb and forefinger drop to my chin, pressing them upwards to close my mouth.

His words come out calm and as comforting as he could sound.

“You feel like this case is like that lollipop you were struggling to unwrap. But I’m here to help, and just because I’ve offered my assistance doesn’t mean it’s mine alone, it’s ours. Do you understand?”

Biting down gently on the stick of the lollipop, I nod, still holding his gaze with wide eyes.

“Good girl. You’re doing well.”

My eyes grow wider as I feel my ears start to burn. And I could swear his stoic expression had transformed ever so slightly into something more smug.

“Interesting...” He says as he slowly inches his face closer to mine, tilting his head,  inspecting me.

“Miss Uehara, do you happen to be blushing?”

My hand finds its way on his chest, preventing him from getting any closer. I look away in an effort to hide my flustered expression, trying to get my bearings.

“Let’s get back to work, Detective. You can ask me about that later.”

I look up at him. And for a moment, there was the ghost of a smile on his pale face.

Nah,being a fictional serial killer fangirl is the same thing as drooling over Ted Bundy because Naomi Misora and Raye Pember are just as real as the girls Bundy raped and killed. Besides,evil people only exist to cause harm and cackle over it,they don't have complex emotions or feelings. /sarcasm

Also,the fact that Light is able to be a good person and has the capacity for love and empathy makes him worse,not better.

Light isn’t unworthy of my love or empathy just because he does wrong. Love and empathy isn’t equivalent to excusing him or exempting him from the negative consequences of his actions.

Acknowledging and appreciating that his creator’s intent was to make him nuanced and possess some genuine virtue alongside his flaws and harmful beliefs isn’t me apologizing.

I can’t hurt or be inconsiderate of his victims by caring about him and viewing him fully when both he and his victims are fictional and aren’t sentient.

Loving him doesn’t make me “out of touch with reality” nor does it mean I treat real world actions and behaviour similar to his irresponsibly.

Caring about the fact that he’s a very interesting, well executed depiction of a complex human being and wanting to engage with that idea thoroughly for pleasure and deeper reflection, especially because it literally hurts nobody doesn’t make me wrong or a bad person. I’m not wrong for how I feel.

Please consider that I am a human being with feelings behind my profiles, and if it’s too hard for you to engage with me in good faith and full understanding, then just don’t.

I remember reading once that the author of Death Note intentionally named the characters so that they sounded like real names to Japanese ears but trying to make sure no one IRL actually has those names (which is why we get shit luke Yagami Raito and Raye Pember) and I wonder if it's a similar scenario.

I love Fullmetal Alchemist’s approach to character names.

On the one hand, it’s got so many ridiculous, cartoonishly Awesome McCoolname characters like “ Col. Roy Mustang” and “Lt. Riza Hawkeye.”

It often even casually drops crazy badass names on relatively minor characters like “Jean Havoc” and “Kain Fury”.

And on the other hand, once in a while Fullmetal Alchemist just goes, “Fuck it, this loser’s name is Barry the Chopper” or, “We have named this man with a prosthetic arm ‘Captain Buccaneer’” and then takes the rest of the day off.

Or “King Bradley”, who despite being a monstrous tyrant is not in fact a king named Bradley. No, his surname is Bradley and until most of the way through the plot, we are expected to believe that his parents named him “King”.
