Todays update is a couple of earworms that seemed to have rarely left my brain this year.
Rheinzand by way of Scorpio Twins, who seemed to just roll in unheralded and fully realised, bumping out remixes like this.
About as ravey as I can take it these days, mid tempo, gleefully electronic, up for it but sludgey. Peak time dance music, in a fun way.
Tumblr media
Its nu disco, its house, its got an epic Euro vibe, reminiscent of millennial San Francisco in its punchy crispness, but wholly its own thing: that little bit Balearic, little bit New Beat by way of Denmark thing, mined so beautifully by Music For Dreams.
Tumblr media
A postmodern anomaly and sign of the times that neither of these remixes has a 12” release.
Thats just how it goes now. You can probably get Maroon 5’s entire catalogue on 180gm vinyl, but not this type of dancefloor kryptonite 💥
DJ’s play Pioneers.

Arctic Monkeys demos / early recordings
Tumblr media
This is a collection of known Arctic Monkeys demos and early recordings. These are the ones I could find, but please let me know if you find more.
Some of these went on to get re-recorded later on and put on the studio albums, and others never made it past the demo stage or were mainly played during their early live shows. The early demos were all recorded between 2003-2004.
The 2Fly demos was the first recordings they ever did, recorded with Alan Smyth in Sheffield in the summer of 2003. The band used to hand out burned CDs with demos at their gigs and those demos were then collected by fans/journalists and shared online. Beneath the Boardwalk is the unofficial collection of all of these studio demos and live recordings.
The Five Minutes With Arctic Monkeys are re-recorded demos and came out in 2005 with two new demos, different to both the ones on Beneath the Boardwalk and later the released versions on Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not.
I honestly don't know anything about the Favourite Worst Nightmare demos. But they're amazing!
There are truly some hidden gems in these, and I honestly love these demos so much. I hope you'll enjoy!

at first i was going to make this entry about how people just love to cover black sabbath. but apparently, there is quite some drama surrounding this industro-rock-ravey cover of 'supernaut'. and as that sounds truthfully more interesting to write about than my original concept, let the fun begin...
'supernaut' was released under a side project led by al jourgensen in the transition period between ministry albums twitch and the land of rape and honey. through time, the very identities of the other bandmates have been questioned and debated (each one had a pseudonym). by now many have settled that this band was a supergroup of sorts - both martin atkins (ex-public image ltd drummer and eventually a future member of ministry) and jello biafra (dead kennedys vocalist, san francisco mayoral candidate), and a few members of revco were confirmed to have worked on some material here, among others. pretty neat, yeah?
but of course, that couldn't be all - there's a problem here, and its title is 'supernaut (trent reznor vocal version)'. yes, the much-esteemed mr. nine-inch-nails almost made the cut onto the official release, but alas, record label tvt denied his participation. but of course, we still have the tape of his demo. for many years, the one whose vocals were actually used on the final product was shrouded by mystery and fierce debate. some say the group kept trent's recording and then released it, but others lay claim that al jourgensen, after learning of this label trouble, then redid the vocal, his own being kept instead. and although the latter is the story that is most often confirmed, who doesn't love a little scandal?

The thought of tea time makes me think of dainty little china cups, shiny silver spoons, and raised pinky fingers. It normally doesn’t remind me of ravey invigorating house music, but Chicago electronic geniuses Win and Woo have shifted my perception with their new track Tea Time. Drinking tea in the afternoon (or anytime, really) may never be the same again after taking in the spiced up bass house that the versatile duo have served us, not placidly pooled in delicate tea cups but skipping and vaulting with bristling bass, sharp cowbells, and a quirky, playful kazoo toting smirk. If we had pan flutes next to us, we’d join in with the fluttering melody on the blithe cavorting anthem. This is the sort of tea party that the Mad Hatter would love, with the Queen Of Hearts at his side, twirling away in leg kicking delirium. Win and Woo will be heading out on tour with Two Friends soon, with a show in San Francisco at The Regency Ballroom on February 8th. Win and Woo’s Tea Time is a free download, here.

#FEATURED Chrissy 'Physical Release' 🇺🇸 For Hooversound’s ninth release, SHERELLE and NAINA welcome San Francisco-based DJ and producer Chrissy to the family for the label’s debut album release. ‘Physical Release’ blends elements of ravey techno, house, and jungle that have run through his previous work. The final result is an exploration of what our scene’s physical spaces mean and how they feed into themes of politics, family, connection and joy. So while this album may feel like a paean to a bygone era, it is more a reflection of optimism about the future: a hope that we can rebuild our scene and our communal physical spaces with better priorities and better values, so that everybody can experience the euphoria, joy, transcendence, and physical release of the dancefloor." #UbuntuFM #Radio https://one.ubuntu.fm/2ZTWmk3
