For @somerandomdudelmao 's Cass apocalypse au!!!! I love the idea of Raph being Casey's dad before Leo took over parenting. Raph deserves to be a big soft dad.

If I can’t be happy… neither can Raph
… Joking!!! …Mostly. Look it’s just to easy to make angst of him. And I am desperate for more angst. Please Rise fandom, give the guy some more love (and pain I MEAN WHAT??! WHO SAID THAT)
Anyway I don’t think Splinter would actually say this cause easy life?? Yeah no.
I imagine this is a reoccurring dream that he has. He knows his dad wouldn’t say that to him but that doesn’t stop his subconscious from pretending he would✨
Also can you tell I’m fighting for my life trying to avoid drawing Splinter? He terrifies me I’m avoiding him like the plague

22. Puzzling - TMNT 2012
Don't worry, guys, that wasn't supposed to happen.
When the bit of Kraang tech he's examining (read: poking randomly in the hopes that something will happen) explodes, Donatello's not sure if he or Raphael shrieks louder. He thinks it's Raph. Which would be way funnier under different circumstances.
He blinks against sooty particulates. "Huh, well, that wasn't supposed to happen."
He's amid a cloud of unexpectedly thick, slightly pink smoke. Which is on-brand but frankly annoying. He waves at the air in a vain attempt to disperse it. Maybe he can move this operation to the kitchen, work under the exhaust hood. He should probably install one in here. He gives up flailing his arms, and backs away from the desk. Step one to solving any problem is getting some distance. Step two is—oh, that's weird. The cloud doesn't seem to have moved since the initial explosion. What kind of particles are these? He hasn't seen Kraang tech do this before.
The moment he remembers Raph is also the moment he trips over him. With a yelp, he hits the ground. Hard. Raph giggles. Rude. He's going to have at least two bruises tomorrow. And his scream was definitely louder than Raph's, so he's lost any right to make fun.
"Dude," Donnie groans, pushing to his feet. At least he's away from the Kraang smoke, "Why'd you trip me?"
"I don't know," comes the high-pitched reply, "Why're you so big?"
By the time his eyes clear, he's pretty sure it's a genuine question, not an insult about his height. It makes more sense once he looks down, down, down to find Raph miniaturised.
Donnie throws his hands to his head. "That wasn't supposed to happen, either!" Raph just giggles again.
"Leo!"
As far as they can tell, based on Raph's appearance and memories, he's about five. Donnie can't even remember being that young. Which he counts as a good thing because kids are weird. Or maybe that's just mutant turtle kids. He doesn't have experience with normal children to establish a baseline. Leo and Sensei do, though, and they seem unperturbed by Raph's behavior. Even Mikey takes the whole thing in stride. He is, in fact, absolutely thrilled and oscillates between gathering blackmail material and doing whatever Raph asks.
Donnie will admit he's having trouble making sense of it all. First, and he thinks he’s mentioned this, that was not supposed to happen. He can't figure out how a broken Kraang tech part without any detectable energy source could have caused something like this. Which naturally leads to the question of how he's meant to fix it. Raph has no idea what happened, either, so he's no help. Worse, he just might be the most confusing being Donnie has ever met. Take yesterday, for example.
He's not sure what time it is when he stumbles out of the lab for breakfast, so it might not technically be in the range of the day at which it is appropriate to call a meal breakfast. His brain is too full of viscous pink Kraang smoke to care. It must be some mealtime because everyone but Master Splinter is in the kitchen when he arrives. Leo is at the island supervising Raph and Mikey's mess-making by the stove.
Raph perks up, "Hey Donnie! I wanna tell you a question."
"Ask nicely, Raph," Leo reminds, hiding a smile behind the rim of his tea cup.
"Please, I wanna tell you a question." He barrels on, "How do you open your labrador?”
Open his what? Donnie stares at the space above Raph's head, trying to parse the question until a nudge from Leo resets his brain. "Say what?"
"Your labrador!" He flings his arms out, nearly knocking himself to the floor. Mikey catches the lip of his shell just in time.
“What Labrador? Raph, I don't have a—”
“Yeah, you do!” He's angry of a sudden. Of course, he is. But it's weird. It's not the first time Donnie's made him mad since the incident, but he's never gotten in anyone's face or stormed off with a huff. He just screeches until he gets whatever it is that he wants. It's Raph's anger, but it's not. “It’s how you get to the place you do all your smart stuff!"
Mikey swoops in, crouching to squeeze Raph gently, then translates, “He means the door to your lab, bro.”
“The door? Oh. Why would—?" Donnie sighs heavily, sinking into the stool next to Leo. “Raph, that’s the lab door,” he enunciates, “Not a Labrador. A Labrador is a dog breed."
Just like that, Raph's face unscrunches into something thoughtful. “So it’s not a labrador?”
Well, at least the exasperation is familiar. "I literally just said that. It’s a normal door.” Leo clicks at him warningly. Come on, what is he supposed to do here? Seriously, this feels surreal. Maybe this whole dialogue is a dream, and he's hunched over his desk right now. He straightens his shell to test for any worse-than-usual aching.
“Okay," Raph says. Then he turns around. Just like that. As if the entire conversation never happened. Never mind his original question or whatever he was trying to ask. He makes no sense, literally none at all.
But, you know what, fine. Donnie has to eat anyway so he can go back to the "place where he does all his smart stuff" or whatever. So he can figure out how to get hisactual brother back, who at least makes sense most of the time.
Leo finishes his tea, returning Raph's enthusiastic wave goodbye, and then there are three. Mikey and Raph finally settle down to eat whatever noxious concoction they've whipped up as Donnie cleans his dishes. Freshly fed, his brain refills with extradimensional smoke and engineering.
"Well, that's boring!"
He fumbles with his mug at the sudden shout. A glance over his shoulder finds Raph, who had been eating quietly, now glaring at him.
“You should name that boring normal door Labrador so we can just call it that anyway," he says firmly.
He's not sure why he tries to ask, “Why would I—”
“Or or!" And it's like a switch again, anger suddenly dissipating. "We could name it something cooler! Like Thundoor from Crognard!”
“Thundarr,” He corrects. It's too late, Mikey's joins in.
“That’s awesome, little dude!" Mikey laughs buoyantly. "We should name all the furniture!”
“Yeah!”
And Donnie is so tired and so lost, and Raph is too much and too little of his brother at the same time it’s not even funny anymore. He doesn't think it ever was.
“Come one, Dee!" Mikey hoists Raph onto his shoulders, naturally content to ignore the messy kitchen. "Help Raphie and I name everything in the lair!”
Donnie tries to shake his head as Raph reaches for him. “Can you! Can you, please? Just for a little bit, please, Donnie, please?” Oh, now he recalls his manners.
"No, Raph." He bangs his mug onto the drying rack, ignoring Mikey's frown. "I don't have time for your nonsense questions and weird games. I'm trying to fix you."
It's not until he slams closed the lab door that the words trailing after his dramatic exit finally click. A puzzled sort of muttering from Raph: "Fix me? But I’m not broken."
So maybe he got a little too worked up, as tired as he was. But he's better now! He's eaten. He's slept five hours. He's determined to sit here until he cracks this thing.
And then someone bangs on the door.
He drops his head with a groan. How is he supposed to heroically solve all of their problems in these conditions? “Who is it, and what do you want," he shouts into the pages of his notebook.
"Once a second!"
One second, he mouths to himself. He listens to Raph struggle with the door for a lot of seconds and hopes he'll give up. He probably won't. Donnie better unlock it before he hurts himself. Or worse, starts screaming. Only because Leo would find some way to blame Donnie for it.
He shoves the door open, not at all irritated. Or vindicated either, when Raph falls on his shell and his sai skitter across the floor. Wait. “I thought Sensei took those out of your—Hey!”
Five-year-old Raph may not be much of a ninja but he is pretty slippery. He scrambles under Donnie's arm and launches into the rolling desk chair.
“Raphael." He glowers, summoning his inner Leo, "You are not allowed in the lab—”
“Without you,” he recites, spinning the chair so Donnie only catches glimpses of his cheeky smile. “But you’re here too! So it’s okay.”
It most definitely is not. Raph has no understanding of lab safety right now, so if Raph stays in here, then Donnie will have to keep an eye on him, and if Donnie has to watch Raph, then he can't focus on his work. He does not want Raph in here, and he says so.
“Donnie, I'll be so so so good. Please!” Oh, Mikey absolutely taught him how to do that with his eyes. Not cool, Mike.
“Raph," Donnie faux whines back. "I need to work. Go play with Leo or Mikey."
"Ugh," Raph flops onto his shell, letting his head and limbs hang. “But Sensei and Leo are medating, and Mikey’s with Red."
“Meditating," he corrects, "And I know you know her name is April.”
“Casey calls her Red.”
“Yeah, well, Casey’s a—” Raph looks at him with wide, innocent eyes. A promise on his face that anything Donnie says will be repeated. "It’s polite to call people by their name."
Raph hums, continuing to spin idly, “But I don't call you Donatello, I call you Donnie. And you call me Raph or sometimes Fai.”
Not a bad point. But what was that second thing? Fai? Oh. His brain retrieves fuzzy, forgotten memories. That's right. When they were both little, that had been his nickname for Raph. Just between the two of them. He can't remember when he stopped using it.
“Right," he says slowly. "But those are nicknames. They're a shorter version of your name.”
“Oh, okay.” Then Raph rolls out of the chair, clunking to the ground shell first, and wanders away to explore the lab.
Donnie retakes the seat, resigning himself to further interruptions. Part of his brain is devoted to thinking up better excuses in case this is one of those conversations Raph returns to without warning. The rest of his awareness is on Raph as he pokes and prods at books and equipment and even poor Timothy. It takes the better part of a half hour for him to realise he's still sitting at his desk not moving a muscle.
He growls, gripping his head. Raph is on him in an instant. "What's wrong? Can I help? Do you need a book? Do you want one of mine? I can get Leo! Or Sensei, or—"
"No," Donnie snaps.
He gapes as Raph's beak trembles and his eyes fill with tears. "You're crying. Why are you crying? Please stop crying." He slides to the floor next to Raph, "I'm sorry? It's just. I'm trying to focus! I need to fix you, but I don't—"
“I don’t want you to fix me!” He shouts, scrubbing his face and hiccupping. “I just want to play! Why won’t you play with me anymore?"
“Raph, I," Donnie looks down at his hands, "I don’t have time,” he finishes lamely.
“Yes, you do! You’re just being mean!” He runs out of the lab. Probably to someone who actually understands him. Someone who tries. Donnie wonders if he’ll ever stop messing things up for Raph.
Because as far as they can tell, this version of Raph went to bed one day, and the family he found upon waking was suddenly different. Of course, Raph is frustrated and confused and probably a little scared. He's not just normal Raph in a smaller body. Donnie might've realised that sooner if he'd spent more time with him instead of causing one mess after the other and then hiding from it all in his lab.
Donnie doesn't remember when he was five, but he's heard Sensei's stories about their childhood. The ones about his younger self hanging on Raph's every word. That one embarrassing retelling of the biggest fight Donnie ever caused by announcing Raph was his favorite brother. His father's memories of them doing everything together, at least until Donnie really got into science. So he steps out of the lab and locks it behind him. His brother, this brother, needs to come first.
He must look contrite enough that Leo only grills him a little before he points to Raph's room. After a single breath of indecision, he sits, shell against the door.
“Hey, Fai?” he starts, tugging at his fingers, “I’m really sorry. I have been pretty mean lately, haven’t I?” It takes a few moments, but a little thud echoes on the other side of the door.
Relieved, he continues, “I’m not as good at this as I used to be. I might need your help. But I’m out of my lab right now, and we can play whatever you want.”
Donnie hits the floor before he realises the door has swung open. Little Raph is looking down at him, eyes still watery but excited. "Really? Anything? Even Space Heroes!"
And Donnie almost can't believe it's that easy. He smiles with Raph's infectious joy. “Space Heroes? Who are you, Leo?”
Raph collapses into him with a laugh that banishes the rest of his tears as Donnie reaches out, tickling him just like he's seen their big brother do. He's still giggling when Donnie staggers to his feet. “Think I could use some bedding to build us the Dauntless?”
Raph cheers. Launching into an explanation of his favorite episodes and characters as he directs them around the lair to collect supplies. If this isn't blackmail material, Donnie doesn't know what is. Raph will never be able to deny that he likes Space Heroes ever again. Once Donnie figures out how to reverse this Kraang-smoke-induced de-aging that is.
He does still have to. They need Raph as he should be: their teammate, their protector, their equal. But if he were here in those roles right now, Donnie knows he would have heard a thousand times over that he needs to sleep, to eat, to take a break for at least five minutes, Don, come on.
So he'll try. He'll take breaks to hang out with his favorite brother. He'll get a lot of experience building sheet spaceships and pillow forts. And by the end of it all, Donnie will realise his little brother really does just want to play and ask silly questions that probably don’t seem so silly to him. He'll decide this little version of Raph isn't a puzzle of confusing emotions. He's the same pieces he's always been, unfiltered and untethered from all the pain and fear of their older selves.
And so, even after Raph returns to 16, whenever the thought creeps up on Donnie that he's not doing enough, that he needs to fix it. He'll lock his lab behind him and say, "Hey, Fai! Wanna play something?"

If you love Rise Raph as much as I do, maybe you should check out my small Future!Rise fic where I make him as big as Heinous Green. Because I said so. BIG RAPH SUPREMACY.
Tumblr media
He’s still a lil goofball. It’s called Full Grown, and it is very dear to me. It is very soft and has a gentle ending. I originally called it “Mystic Breakdown,” but I’ve since made that the name of the series because I’ll be posting a second one focusing on Donnie on Sunday!!
Summary:
“Very early on in the invasion, the Hamato Clan discovered something.. Not so good. To understand it, one must take a look at the Hidden City. The underground world fell in much more chaotic fashion than New York did, and that’s saying something.”
In the midst of the apocalypse, the boy’s powers get a little out of hand.
Notes:
Prompt via my friend Noah: Big Raph rescues people and pets from the Krang
The prompt was not well followed.
Y'know Heinous Green from "Raph's Ride-along?" With that and the combined knowledge that Leo got giant in the future, I wanted to mess around with how big Raph would grow to be, and how his gentle soul may hate it.
A good song to listen to while reading: “FULL GROWN,” by Field Medic or “You Love Me” by Kimya Dawson.
Anyways, here it is!!
Thanks for getting this far in my post. Have a wonderful day.

Raph has a name for each of his brothers.
For Leo it’s ‘Stars’. He notes the irony of having the only one with a star sign related name be nicknamed ‘Stars’ but that wasn’t where it started. For him it was because of how bright and numerous they are. Leo shines, there is no doubt about that, but he does so in hundreds of ways that leave all of them awed. He’s charming and funny but also devoted and respectable. Just like stars, he is easy to see most of the time and the times you can’t is when it’s cloudy or you are too deep in a city and polluted by smog and artificial light. But he’s still there, a glittering spectacle in the night, sometimes hidden away but you always know he’s there.
For Donnie he’s ‘Moons’. He’s beautiful and smart, able to make waves with his infections and thinking. He has a pull to him that entices you, makes you want to lean in and learn more yet you can never get close enough, feel and see as he does. He orbits worlds and takes in every detail, a million miles away yet more in touch with the fabrics of earth than any other. You can’t touch him and sometimes he isn’t entirely there, lost to his own mind, but he always comes back, brighter than ever.
For Mikey it’s ‘Sun’. There are obvious implications, Mikey is bright and fills every space he enters with warmth and colour. But it’s more than that, he also shines a light on truth. He shows people who they really are, helps them understand and see the things people wish to ignore, good and bad. He’s beautiful, kind and sweet and worthy of the presence he demands. But he’s also dangerous. His warmth can turn to burning when needed, his unsuspecting observation helps him to know when and where to strike, both to win a fight and heal hurt.
Raph has no name for himself, but he figures in his little metaphor he would be the earth. Witness to all three of them, there to admire and watch them grow and learn every day. He’s happy with that, it’s all he could ever want and need. After, what is an earth without its Sun, Moon and stars? With is a Raph without his family?

It’s 2 AM I should be sleeping my grandma going to Hawaii in four hours and I want to be awake to send her off but here I am…
Anyways, I’m just thinking about it.
The M-Word
Summary: Monster. He knows that’s what they thought of him. He saw the looks on their faces during the invasion. They’ll never admit to it, but he will never forget the look in their eyes—his little brothers staring wide eyed at him with fear.
He stares into the eyes of his blue brother, and he wants to scream. He wants to tell his little brother to run—to save himself, but the slider remains frozen and unmoving. He wants nothing more than to run before they get hurt—before he hurts them. But his body won’t listen to his mind, his body moves on its own as if controlled by a cruel puppeteer. He can only watch hopelessly as his own fists—his own hands that once embraced his brothers since toddlers—clenched and aiming for the kill.
Don’t expect shit… pls. Also, this is incomplete hehe. I’ll add it to the list of possible upcoming works.

HOLY- you did a whole comic?!
How didn't I see this earlier?? I love it! Thank you so much!

( @rottmnt-secret-gifting )
@rottmnt-brainrot-hours (Oh, wow, did we just get each other? Did anyone else just switch names like that? Weird.)
It's a bit late! Sorry. It was originally about thirteen pages and I kept 'fixing' the colors and dialogue. Now it's only seven pages and fewer colors and no shading (I'm sad; I like shading, but this is what I get for biting off more than I can chew). Sorry if it's not to your liking. I tried.
The dialogue might still be off because this feels cringe.
(Frankenfoot dialogue, because he knows more words, but probably can't say them perfectly yet:
Overwelled = overwhelmed
Awe-tee-stick = Autistic)
Also, bonus pictures I liked from pages that will now never be.

A Heart Of Sunflower
by Knight_Of_Breath
“A likely story,” Robin says, taking a few tense steps towards the bed Mikey is on. Oh, wow. He sounds like a posh ten year old. “It fell directly into the batcave, it’s a little too convenient.” Mikey’s thoughts pause. Mikey was portaled into the batcave? Leo, what the shit?
Also, two months after the invasion, Batman wants to know about the things that took down the Aliens. The turtles want a small mission to get back into hero-ing. When neither of those things go right, and Mikey is the only one who made it out, and he must work with the Batfam to get his brothers, and their father, back.

Leonardo should be dead. Why isn’t he dead? He fought for over twenty years in an unfair war. Lost his family, his friends, everything he had ever loved. Sent his protégé to the past to fix his own mistakes, and prevent another world’s end. Felt the heat of The Krang’s lasers scorching his skin…
So why is he now being used as a jungle gym for four rambunctious children?! And smaller versions of his own brothers, no less?
Guess “Uncle Green’s” story is not yet finished.

"My Turtles” AU - Fan Iteration
[COMING SOON]
Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo, & Raphael Hamato don’t know much about their mutation day; why it happened, how it happened...They’re told they were originally pets of Yoshi Hamato’s little sister Miwa, who passed away 12 years prior. Yoshi doesn’t like to talk about back then, making excuses or leaving out details, but apparently they have lived with their “uncle” ever since.
Yoshi teaches them ninjutsu, too, at the dojo that’s been passed down the Hamato line since their Great-Great-Grandfather opened its doors. They’re not sure why they’re learning --Yoshi’s avoiding that answer, too-- but it’s fun, so who cares?
But what’s the point in knowing super cool martial arts skills if you never get to go out and use them?? NYC is full of crime, so maybe it’s about time these mutant ninja turtle teens put their training to good use!

Forgotten
Chapter Eight
He sat quietly as he watched the purple turtle, Donnie look over his wrists. After having that strange conversation the younger turtle had gone very quiet, almost as if he was afraid of saying something to upset him. Which was weird to him, why would he care about what Donnie had to say? He'd told him that he refused to be a replacement for his brother and he was sticking by that. He refused to be this Leo for them, refused to play this game of house when he had no idea who these people were nor did he have any connection or relationship to them. His only mission was to find a new home for himself, away from those strangers who were supposedly looking for him. He shouldn't care about any of this nonsense if he thought about it logically.
So why did the flash of hurt and shock in Donnie's expression hurt him so much?
The blue eyed turtle quietly watched as Donnie looked over his wrists, noting that the purple clad teen was handling his injuries with a gentle hand. It was clear by the way he was handling all of this that he was the caretaker of sorts for this group of other turtles and their rat father. Donnie moved with a practiced ease of sorts, as if he'd done this thing thousands of times before, his fingers gently undoing the bandages that were wrapped around his cuts from the zip ties that were once there. Once the bandages were gone he heard Donnie's quiet intake of breath at the sight of them and he too couldn't help but flinch at the state that they were in. The cuts were deep and enflamed in a way, irritated by the thick plastic that had cut into his scaly flesh when he'd tried to escape in his panic the night before. They were bleeding slightly having been rubbed by the bandages while he'd slept, making them look even worse than they were.
"This isn't good, I'm going to have to clean these out again. Would you mind waiting here while I go get my medical kit?"
Donnie asked his voice gentle as he finally looked up at him. He stared back at the other turtle, dark blue eyes meeting reddish brown ones as he mentally debated if he should just stay there or again try to leave. After a beat he finally took a deep breath and nodded reluctantly. Donnie's face filled with a look of relief before he got up from the floor to go get his things.
"Great, I'll be right back. Just hang tight Leo."
Donnie said already making his way away from him as he opened his mouth to object at being called that. How the younger turtle had already disappeared from his view leaving him slightly annoyed by everything. He didn't understand why they insisted that he was this Leo. Didn't understand why they couldn't listen to him and accept that he wasn't the brother that they were desperately grieving for. He felt his heart twist a bit as he recalled the shrine he'd seen with the old photo in the middle and felt his annoyance die slightly. He knew that this small family couldn't help it, couldn't help but hope that he was this Leo that they clearly loved dearly. He tried to imagine being in their shoes, tried to imagine loving someone like these people did only to lose them to a supposed enemy just ripped them away from him.
His heart sunk as he tried to imagine it, and realized that he couldn't. He couldn't imagine loving someone so much only to have them be snatched away from him. If he was being honest with himself he knew somehow deep down that it'd break him in ways he didn't even think possible. Flashes of Splinter and Donnie's faces full of sorrow and grief filled his mind making the strange feeling of pain in his chest snowball into an even bigger feeling that was now laced with a sorrow and pity for them.
'I may not be who they want, but I can let go of them calling me that name accidentally.'
He thought as the final traces of his annoyance at Donnie's mistake officially die. He would look away for now but if it continued then he'd say something. Satisfied with his choice he found himself glancing back at the comic book he had been looking at, mindlessly flipping through its pages again while he waited for Donnie to come back. Bright colored images and words filled his vision as he scanned the book. It was surprisingly interesting and its story while confusing to him was gripping and he found himself getting lost in the strange world of the comic book. He was so lost in his obversing and reading that he failed to notice the other turtle's return until he'd spoken up.
"That comic is Mikey's favorite one you know? He absolutely adores it."
Donnie's voice spoke from beside him making him jump startled. Snapping his head up he was met with Donnie putting his hands up in a palating manner looking a bit startled and apologetic.
"Sorry I didn't mean to startle you. May I see your wrists please?"
The purple turtle said hesitantly holding his hand out to grab his. The blue eyed turtle slowly placed his one hand out for him to clean earning a small smile of appreciation from the other turtle as he got to work. He flinched at the medicine that was applied earning a small apology from the medic. The two didn't speak much more as Donnie fixed him up, his tongue poking out unconsciously as he carefully applied the medicine and bandages, focused solely on making sure that he was properly taken care of. He again found his gaze wandering towards the comic book his mind trying to figure out exactly who Mikey was.
"Mikey......he's the one in orange right......?"
He found himself asking, silently hoping that he didn't mess up with the identities of the other two. Donnie's focus went to him and he nodded with a smile.
"Yes, the orange one is Mikey. He's the youngest one out of us."
The purple turtle explained earning a small head tilt of confusion from him.
"Youngest?"
He asked, curiosity getting the best of him. His mind couldn't help but snap at him for asking about this family. He didn't know them, he wasn't their brother nor were they his concern. He shouldn't be wondering if Mikey was the youngest or the oldest. Shouldn't be wondering about any of this, yet he found himself doing exactly that. From learning about Splinter being the father of these turtles and the supposed duties that they did, he couldn't help but be curious about other things. Especially when Donnie who seemed to have gotten over his small hesitance of saying something to upset him, was telling him these things. Donnie smiled a little more at his question.
"Yeah he's the youngest of the four of us. There's you or rather Leo who was the oldest brother out of us. Next is the turtle in red, Raph, he's the second oldest out of us. Then me the second youngest and finally Mikey the baby of the family."
The genius turtle said as he wrapped up his one wrist on got started on his other one. He stared off a bit, letting the information process and noting that Donnie had corrected himself on calling him Leo making him feel a bit relieved that he fixed his mistake this time.
"You know.......if you're curious about things we'd be more than happy to explain them to you."
Donnie piped up making his gaze flicker to him.
"But why? We aren't friends and we don't know each other. I'm not-"
He began to explain only for Donnie to hold up his hand to stop him.
"I know that.....that you're confused and that you don't think that you're Leo. I know that you.....that you think that we're using you as a replacement and that you're confused but it wouldn't hurt to just.....talk to us? Or to at least try to......?"
The younger turtle said his sentence trailing off into a question of sorts. He paused at what he'd heard, thinking once again about his next move. There was no reason for him to talk to these people more than necessary, no reason for him to learn about them nor no reason for him to get attached when in the end he'd be leaving as soon as he could. Once his wounds were fully healed he wouldn't stick around in this lair home with these three turtles and their father. He really shouldn't make things complicated by making bonds with them. He was so deep in his thinking that he didn't even realize that Donnie had finished cleaning and bandaging his wrists till he felt a gentle hand pat his shoulder causing him to flinch.
"Just think about it okay? The choice is completely up to you. Either way we'll be there for you."
Donnie said before getting up from the floor, gathering up his materials and leaving the living room, leaving him alone with his thoughts and confusion about everything.
'The choice is completely up to you.'
The words rang in his head.
'But what if it wasn't that easy?'
He asked back, wanting an answer for once. The only thing he got back was silence.
~~~~~
Donatello wasn't the type of person for words. Especially when it came to emotional things, he went with logic and what his mind believed to be right. And what he'd said to Leo had been what he truly believed to be the most logical thing to say given the circumstances that they were in. Yet saying those things, telling him that the choice of whether he wanted to speak to them or not had been one of the hardest things he'd ever had to say in all of eighteen years of life. Saying those words gave Leo the chance to not want to be more open with them, it gave him the choice to completely ignore them and in the end leave once again. An outcome that Donnie knew would personally kill them all if he chose it. But knowing his brother Donnie knew that they couldn't make Leo do something, his brother was a stubborn turtle and only he could make himself do what he wanted to do. Either way Donnie knew that whatever happened he'd be there for Leo, even if Leo didn't want anything to do with them.
'Please don't let what I said end up being a mistake.'
He silently pleaded before disappearing into his lab to try and calm the storm that was tearing him apart from the inside out.
~~~~~
It didn't take long for the other two turtles to wake up from their sleep, the scent of food stirring them from their slumber. Michelangelo sleepily blinked as he rose from his sleeping position gazing around the room and noticing Donnie in his chair on the other side of the lab, staring blankly at his desk. Concerned he became more awake and then realized that something was off about their pile. Something was missing.
Or rather someone.
Mikey was up in an instant, accidentally ramming his arm into Raphael who let out a small pained swear which caused Donnie's head to snap over to them, no longer lost in his thoughts.
"Mikey! What the shell did you do that for-"
Raph began to growl his green eyes full of irritation at being woken up the way he was only to be cut off by Mikey.
"Leo! Where's Leo?!?"
The youngest turtle said his voice frantic as he searched for the missing brother that they'd just gotten back. Raph's body went stiff and a look of dread filled his expression but before he and Mikey completely lost it Donnie had quickly intervened putting a stop to their panic.
"Guys calm down Leo's fine! I just got done changing his bandages not too long ago, he's in the living room."
Donnie said making Mikey and Raph nearly sag as they processed what the genius said. Raph shot Donnie an annoyed look.
"Why didn't you say something sooner or ya know wake us up Donnie???"
Raph growled lowly irritated while Donnie just took it all in stride not at all bothered by his older brother's temper.
"I didn't know you two were waking up and I didn't wake you two up because you needed sleep..."
Donatello explained to the red clad turtle. While the two oldest talked the youngest of the bunch had decided to slip out from the lab, only one thought in his mind.
Finding Leo and seeing for himself that he was okay.
The orange turtle quietly stepped out into the living area, his baby blues flickering around the room searching before finally landing on the familiar figure of his older brother Leonardo. The oldest teen was looking at the tv, fiddling with the buttons in a mindless kind of way. His gaze was solely focused on trying to figure out exactly how to work it, given that it was a lot different from the other kinds he'd seen. Mikey about collapsed onto the floor in relief at seeing Leo and was about to say something when Donnie and Raph came to join him in the living room. The sounds of their footsteps made Leo's head turn towards them, and once his dark blue gaze landed on them his expression filled with an uneasy look. Tension seemed to build up in the room as they looked at one another, neither side daring to speak nor move. It wasn't until Splinter's voice called out from the kitchen that made them look away from one another.
"Breakfast is ready my sons. Hurry up before it gets cold."
The older rat called out. Donnie was the first to move quickly disappearing into the kitchen and not saying a word to Leo. Mikey instantly knew that something must have happened for Donnie to react like that and he made a mental note to corner his older brother later and make him spill. Raph must have noticed too because the hot head's eyes narrowed in suspicion before letting it go for the time being and following behind the taller turtle, his eyes scanning Leo's frame to make sure that he was okay but not saying anything. Mikey was the last one to follow stopping when he got close enough to his older brother. As soon as he laid eyes on Leo Mikey knew that he was uneasy and a bit rattled somewhat. The blue eyed turtle's gaze kept nervously looking around, his fingers twitching slightly as he seemed to mentally debate with himself about going into the kitchen or staying there.
Mikey felt his heart twist at seeing Leo like this, seeing the once fearless leader that he'd known since the very beginning looking completely lost and unsure of what he was doing or what he was supposed to be doing. Wondering if he could truly trust them or if he should remain cautious around them. Mikey didn't know exactly what Leo was going through but he knew enough to know that Leo was scared and irritated with everything. Last night had proved that to the orange turtle, when he'd threatened him and looked at him with that wild and unnerved look, looking all the part of a trapped animal.
"Hey."
Mikey said his voice soft. Leo snapped up to attention his gaze locking onto him, caution instantly in his gaze.
"I know that you're not really comfortable with coming into the kitchen right now. Do you want me to grab you something to eat so you don't have to?"
Mikey asked watching the older turtle's reaction. Leo's form instantly seemed to loosen its tension at the offer before he gave a confused look, his gaze searching.
".......You and your family.......are way too kind to a stranger......."
Leo said his voice soft and confused, his brows furrowing. Mikey gave him a confused look not sure on how to respond.
"Wha-?"
The younger turtle began only to be cut off.
"You offer to bring me food because I'm uncomfortable, and the purple turtle Donnie fixes my wounds when he doesn't need to. And your father makes me food despite not needing to. You all seem to think that we're close yet I don't know any of you, yet you still show me kindness.......I don't understand why."
Leo elaborated obviously not happy by certain things. Mikey wasn't a genius but he knew that something happened and he knew that Leo was going to need all the help he could get, even if he didn't understand why they wanted to help him. The younger turtle cautiously grabbed Leo's arm and gave it a gentle squeeze, offering him a small smile to help ease him.
"Because it's what we do. We help each other......we're family bro even if you don't remember it. It still doesn't change anything."
Mikey said his tone sincere. He meant every word, having heard them his entire life from the very turtle that was now standing before him. Leo was a firm believer in it, always willing to help him and the others whenever things were bad or all hope seemed lost. It was a phrase that Michelangelo had carried with him for the past near five years when he and his family had believed Leo had been murdered. When Leonardo had died that saying had been held onto tightly, especially by him. When everything got too much he thought about those wise words of his big brother and it helped him quite a bit. And now here he was saying those same words to Leo when he needed to hear them most whether he realized it or not. The older turtle stared at Mikey in a somewhat baffled way, obviously not expecting such an answer. Mikey gave Leo one final comforting squeeze before letting go.
"Do you want me to still bring you out some food?"
Mikey asked patiently waiting for Leo's answer. The turtle was quiet for a beat before shaking his head.
"No thank you......I'll come in to get something in a bit......I just need a moment."
Leo said his tone soft and somewhat awkward. Mikey just gave him another smile and nodded.
"Alright bro I'll let them know. See you in a bit."
The orange turtle said before finally going into the kitchen to let his brothers and father know that Leo would join them soon.
~~~~~
He watched the youngest turtle go in the kitchen unsure of how he should feel. Feelings and thoughts swirled around in his head conflicting him in ways he didn't even think possible.
'The choice is completely up to you. Either way we'll be there for you.'
'Because it's what we do. We help each other.'
'I know that you're scared and confused, but let us help you. My son you're not alone in this.'
Why.....?
Why were they so kind to him? Why couldn't they let this go? Why did they think that he was this dead brother?
Why did these words make him feel so damn conflicted? Made him want to learn more about these strangers that he'd just met? Why......why did he believe what they were saying?
It confused him and frustrated him to no end. He wasn't a fool, he'd learned that trusting people too easily could get you killed. Growing up in his forest had taught him that caution was always the way to go, to display his strength and quick thinking could save his life and keep him from being killed by any kind of threats. Instances of witnessing the world and its cruelty first hand had taught him that to rush into things head first wasn't the smartest thing. Not when it came to survival. Yet these people, this strange family who latched onto him to replace the hole that had been left behind by this Leo, they seemed sincere. It was like they truly believed that he was this dead family member, that they truly believed that he was this Leo that they loved dearly.
It was maddening.
It was infuriating.
It was unnerving.
And yet......
And yet he deep down wanted to rush head first into this. He wanted to for a moment play pretend and act like he was this Leo, wanted to be apart of this thing that this family has. All of his life he had been alone, a turtle who roamed his forest, being called a freak and shunned by the world. Isolated and haunted by dreams or rather foggy memories of a time that didn't even exist. Believing that he was the only one of his kind, never questioning if there was more than what he was experiencing in his forest. But then those people with their bright footprints on their shoulders ruined his home, raiding it and making it unsafe for him to return to and forcing him into the situation of running away and being afraid. Introducing him to a world that he never considered in all of his existence.
A world where he wasn't the only one of his kind.
A world where he was accepted and apparently loved.
A world that he knew didn't belong to him. A world that would never belong to him no matter how much he was tempted to try and take it. No this world, this family filled with these kind and understanding people who were grieving and broken belonged to Leo.
Leo.
The eldest son of Splinter and the eldest of his siblings, who was respected and missed terribly and who was loved and cared for. The turtle who this family mistaken him for. And the fact of this hurt him and confused him in ways that he never experienced. A fact that frustrated him to no end and made him crave to live this lie that they believed in. He felt his throat tighten slightly as the crushing and conflicting emotions rose up in him, making his scarred chest ache and grow heavy. He had no idea what to do, had no idea how to proceed and he'd barely been with these people for a full day and already he was falling apart at the seams for reasons unknown to him. He shook his head and rubbed his palms into his eyes to stop the sting that was building up, forcing himself to get a grip on himself. He couldn't let his desires and newfound knowledge of these fellow turtles knock him off track. He had a mission and he was going to complete it. He was going to find a new home, away from those people and their strange need on finding him and delivering him to this Shredder.
He felt his heart stop when he recalled what those people said, about how this Shredder was looking for this Leo. He thought about how this family had a Leo and it didn't take long for him to put together that they were probably the same person and he was just the unlucky turtle who had been mistaken for Leo. Once the knowledge hit him he felt like his insides froze over as he realized that if he stayed with this family, if he allowed himself to give into the temptation of being Leo and pretending to be him he'd be possibly putting them in danger. He didn't need to be a rocket scientist to know that those people that had raided his home were dangerous, that they wouldn't stop looking for him until he was either dead or within their grasp. And if this family truly believed that he was their Leo.........
He felt his skin itch at the flashes of images of them laying dead, trying to defend him and he felt his stomach roll.
'I can't stay here. I can't put them in danger because I want to live the life that Leo had. They have done nothing to deserve the possible fate that awaits them if I stick around.'
His mind hissed as a feeling of resignation and defeat filled him. He knew that he couldn't stay, not when he was a wanted turtle, not when he wasn't who they were looking for. It was wrong of him to even think for a moment that he could possibly have this. A feeling of resolve and determination filled him as his mind came to a conclusion.
As soon as he possibly could he'd leave and go as far away as he possibly could. It was the right thing to do, even if he didn't want to.
'And you were just criticizing that Mikey about him and his family being too kind to strangers, yet here you are doing the exact same thing.'
His mind mocked him for his earlier words making him scowl slightly before letting out a sigh. He was a hypocrite but he couldn't in conscience let harm come to this family.
He'd rather die than allow it.
He blinked at the sudden vicious and protective response to allowing harm to come to this family, startled by how quickly he grew protective of them and he'd only just met them. He took a deep breath forcing himself not to think about it too much, after all he had more important things to worry about like getting out of there as soon as he could. With that final hardened resolution and a plan already starting to form he pulled himself together and finally stepped into the kitchen knowing that this was probably one of the last times that he'd ever do so.
*Me: Yo fam I'm thinking about dropping this series cuz I've got no inspiration left. My Brain: Bitch lmfao sike here's some more stuff we're gonna break this bitch. War makes for unlikely allies, and when the dimensional breach in the ocean floor allows monsters into the world, four unlikely heroes emerge from the shadows to save their city from destruction. As a hapless rookie learns the truth behind the elusive Rangers who pilot the Jaeger called Shell Shocker, he must adapt to this strange new reality, or be consumed by the Kaiju war.
(An AU in which the events of Pacific Rim begin just after the end of Season One of TMNT 2012)
Casey's learned the hard way that when you fight with physics you always lose, but those hands around his wrists are unbreakable, and Mike's voice is almost breezy; like whatever's about to happen is all part of the plan, like everything's gonna be just fine.
What if he found something bad in his DNA test?” “Bad? Like what?” Leo asked, and Mikey shrugged, but Raph’s face grew dark. “Like a disease? Or maybe he found out that our expected lifespan is only, like, 20 years or something,” Raph mumbled, not taking his eyes off the screen. --- Donnie gets curious about his and his brothers' genetic makeup. He ends up finding something he didn't expect, and Mikey feels like his entire world has been thrown off balance.
The Krang invasion put a couple of things in perspective for April. One of them was how much she wanted her parents to meet the Hamatos. The only difficult part is...getting her parents to meet the Hamatos. April-centric! All relationships are platonic except April's married parents.
When Leo gets taken by Baron Draxum at the young age of 8, he is forced to train under Draxum. At age 13, he finally escapes. He can finally go home! But... he's not the same as he used to be. In fear of disappointing his family, he hides from them, but Leo doesn't consder that his brothers just want to see him alive.
And then there’s Leo,” continues Raphael, unfazed. “He’s—” “We know,” Casey interrupts. The pit in his chest yawns dark and deep and awful. “I— I know. He’s gone. I— I’m sorry, Master Raphael.” Silence from the comms. Then, quietly: “Shit,” says Raphael. “Donnie, did you not tell ‘em—?” “Well, SORRY if I decided I wanted to make sure NO ONE DIED before I dumped EARTH-SHATTERING, LIFE-CHANGING NEWS on our UNSUSPECTING FAMILY—” “How are we gonna break it to ‘em?” Raphael asks. “I don’t even know how to SAY it—” “I mean, we could always go for the ‘Oh No, Leo’s Dead, Sometimes I Can Still Hear His Voice’ route—” Someone in the background gives an indignant yell at that. (The missing scene directly after they pull Leo out of the prison dimension, in which Casey breaks down, the boys break some good news, and April breaks into a car. In that order.)
Baby Casey is determined to say everyone’s name except Leo’s. When Leo teases Donnie over Casey calling him DeeDee (because Leo knows he hates Dexter’s Laboratory with a passion), Donnie decides to solve Casey’s difficulty with his brother’s name.
What would you do if your father killed himself for you? What would you do if he did it twice? What would you do if you had to watch?   What if you could have prevented it? What if it was your fault? - Casey's POV after Leo sacrifices himself to Kraang to save the world. (Very sad, very angsty)
Months after the Krang invasion, everyone is healing and everything seems to be going well. Until Leo goes missing and has to find a way home while injured, weaponless, and pursued by his kidnappers. It doesn't help that he has no idea how he ended up here.
Bri: no descript, but self explanitory.
List of Tmnt fics I love (not writing the descriptions myself because that is where I chicken out every time):
You’re a pet shop employee and have two regulars that buy worms for their pet turtles way too frequently. That’s it, that’s the fic.
There wasn’t anything more precious than raising a child. But some people never were afforded the privilege of family. And some never think of those under their care as children in the first place. This is a small look at the Shredder raising his personal little monster.
Lost and alone in another reality, one turtle must try to find his way home. All while trying to forge a place amongst a family who lost one of their own under horrible circumstances and seemingly resents his very presence. No OC's. Set: 2k3 up until 'Good Genes'. 2k12 up until 'The Good, the Bad and Casey Jones'.
Based on the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mikey was captured by the kraang when he, his brothers, and Splinter were mutated. While splinter was taking the turtles to safety the krang got ahold of Mikey.
He shuts the hologram off before it has the chance to turn back around. He knows how it ends: it'll shrug and then smile sadly and then say goodbye. But this wasn't a goodbye. Not at all. If anything, it was a hello. - - - Or; they lost. the kraang led out a full scale invasion. casey jones is only one in a few left.
It is despair, for lack of a better word. It is desolate emptiness. It is numbness and static and nothing. - - - Or; Casey loved Splinter too
Michelangelo is killed by the Newtralizer. He comes back roughly twenty minutes later. What's he doing in between those two moments? Turns out, the astral plane has a familiar face for him to speak to before he goes home.
Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo wake up in a maze, a 'fun'house, a jungle, and a cage. They're surrounded by three other turtles— that aren't their brothers. Or at least not the brothers they know. Each group has a Leonardo, a Raphael, a Donatello and a Michelangelo, but none of them are from the same universe. Pitched together with counterparts of their brothers, the turtle teams have to figure out how to survive the tests their mysterious captors are putting them through. Easier said than done, for some groups. ('03 Mikey is realizing he is going to have to be the responsible one. Why does he have to be the responsible one?) With many questions, and not a lot of answers, four sets of mixed-up brothers set their sights on goals they can all agree on: figure out what's going on, stop it, and make whoever brought them here pay. And try not to strangle their brother's counterparts while they're at it.
(Warning unfinished amd only 5 chapters but still one of the best crossovers I have ever read)
Leo was never lonely. Sure he has his pops and his brothers and his best friend sister April, but he also has someone else he's known almost all his life. He's a mutant turtle too, and for some reason, only he can see him. It's alright, it's not like he wanted to share him anyways. AKA A rewrite of some of the episodes where 2012 Leo is connected to Rise Leo's soul and acts like a weird imaginary friend [Part of the Mama Leo Series.] [Really fucking need to stop making projects while I have a bunch of unfinished ones and school]
Leonardo may have beheaded Shredder, but that doesn’t mean he’s gone. In fact, his soul is still very much alive, just trapped in another dimension, and now he’s a different turtle’s problem. (Rise and 2012 crossover. Mostly the Leos, because there’s not enough of those two.)
The Hour of the Wild One Chapter 21: Mutanimals - Jyuu Nin to Iro
The Hour of the Wild One (82418 words) by ChuchiOtaku Chapters: 21/? Fandom: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TV 2012), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - All Media Types Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Characters: Hamato Yoshi | Splinter, April O'Neil, Casey Jones, Oroku Saki | The Shredder, Michelangelo (TMNT), Leonardo (TMNT), Raphael (TMNT), Donatello (TMNT), Splinter (TMNT), The Shredder (TMNT), The Mighty Mutanimals Additional Tags: NaNoWriMo 2015, Dark!Turtles, Angst and Hurt/Comfort, Action/Adventure, Brainworms, Family Fluff, Family Drama Summary:
While forced out of patrol because of an injury, Mikey overhears Leo, Raph and Donnie's thoughts about him and is convinced that the team is better off without him. However, when the other three are captured by the Foot, Mikey is instead forced into the spotlight to save everyone against the Shredder and his minions, the new brainworms and-worst of all-the violently monstrous shells that were once his brothers.
But in a tale of strife, loss and changes through heartbreak where protectors become destroyers, it is not a question of who will win in the end, but rather what stands to be lost.
A Mikey-centric adventure of him fighting to do the saving for once. But whether salvation is worth its price, and whether it is a cost everyone else is willing to pay, it is not up to them.
Ultimately, the power of choice belongs to the Wild One.
[TMNT 2012 turtleverse]
