genuine question, how do you feel about the timeless child concept as, like, a long term writing decision? (i think it was fun in concept at the time of watching, but the more i think on it, the less i feel like i like it as a longstanding writing decision? if that makes sense :[ regardless, i'm more curious on how others into the series feel on it)

my opinion on TTC changed wildly from start to finish. i was super excited at first because i thought it would take the show in a brand new direction, away from Gallifrey and towards the Doctor's mysterious new origins, but it actually did the opposite. we never got answers - just lots of vague drama about Gallifrey. woohoo. 🎉

it feels like RTD is about to steamroll all of that lore as well, and to be honest, i think he should. imo, it was a failed attempt to bring new mystery to an old character, and it sent everyone on a pointless wild goose chase.

i was excited for a story arc to finally GO somewhere (*cough* name of the doctor, the hybrid *cough*), but alas... yet another dead end. why does every recent addition to the doctor's character feel hopelessly inconsequential??? i think TTC was a bad writing choice because it had nothing to say, and thus predictably went nowhere.

(i get it: this is a show about change and nebulous time travel shenanigans, and the doctor has many simultaneous timelines, so nothing can be set in stone - but i'm getting a bit tired of chasing geese set loose by mediocre showrunners.)

Today, Romano showed up to America's Halloween party dressed in one of his old military uniforms from the late risorgimento period. He had, of course, been in Rome until it was finally captured in 1870.

Romano's outfit definitely turned the heads of some of the other countries that had fought in this war including France, Austria, and Prussia, but Italy definitely noticed the outfit as well. Fortunately, enough time (and other wars) had passed since the risorgimento that wounds had healed between the nations and no new fights broke out. It helped that Romano was the losing party and the one to bring up the topic.

The worst part of the party was that one too many nations had a bit too much to drink and a small fight broke out about who had the best costume.

It doesn't matter how much you post about transgression and being proud to be weird and queer as in fuck you and going against society's expected behaviours if you then turn around to ridicule and infantilize the people who diverge in other ways that aren't the same ones as yours or the couple more that internet discourse has made you care about.

I'm saying this because of a poll going around in my dash (won't link because it's not a matter of these people in particular, it's much more widespread) asking people if they've taken a certain drug and people commenting different variations of 'why has this poll only reached children' or not believing the results when they see that most of the voters say no. I assure you most people (specially young people) who don't like the things that are expected of them like going out on clubs and drinking alcohol and doing some of the popular drugs of their subculture are already getting enough shit for it and don't need any more people trying to shame them into following the majority or telling them they're children for doing what they choose and not what others think is the Correct and Appropriate Hobby for this age group/demographic.

I never see this term in English-speaking internet but Latin American activism often talks of the 'right to the free development of personality'. Maybe it needs to go viral before many people really take it into account and get rid of the ideas that their hobbies, their interests and their way of living are the only correct ones and everyone else has something wrong with them or hasn't grown up, because clearly you can't be a healthy adult and not be just like them. There are always going to be people who like different things on Earth, and we can only get used to it.

I feel like the reason marichat was really popular was because both Marinette and chat noir were their best selves when they were together. This right here is the thing.

When people were blowing up sharing the "get your art/writing off ex-twitter" a lil bit ago they were met w/ a lot of people (correctly) pointing out the first parts of the TOS. The bit about them being allowed to distribute your posts w/o risk of copyright against them.

Yeah. That was standard. Worded a bit freaky imo, but standard enough.

It's *this* that was the main issue. The legalese for feeding your creative works into the AI generating machine.

It was pointed out by some that it is more akin to an advancement in the algorithm to cater posts & ads to you in a more personal way.

While yeah. Maybe that is true. It will def be an at first thing. Ain't no way it will *stay* that way. It'll ever so slowly slip into feeding the AI generated image/writing/voice algorithms. It *will* end up being plagiarism & in some cases it's essentially theft of identity when talking the deep fakes & the voice ones.

Do I think more sites will adopt this policy?

Yeah. I am sure they will. They will make money off of it.

Do I think we should still make a fuss & stink & remove ourselves before we are fed into the ever churning mill of gnashing digital teeth that is AI generated art/voices/writing?

While I can totally understand the appeal of using AI generation for INSPIRATION on a personal level. Hell. Even a small business level. *But* the big fat cats will use it in nefarious ways.

They will use it to replace the script writers. The Novelists. The background artists. The animators. The logo/marketing artists. The promo artists. The character designers. The voice actors. The singers. The songwriters. The FUCKIN DEAD in the case of deep fake shit. & so many more.

This tool that should have been just that. Another tool to be used to aid the Creative. Will be used by the industry to choke the life out of the Creative.

It is heartbreaking.

It is sooooo important right now to not support it. Especially with the WGA & SAG-AFTRA strikes right now. Their lives are already being ruined by this shit.

Don't feed the machine. It don't matter if it's an indie Creative or a big bucks Creative. Just don't do it. Please. Maybe the tool can be used again for its (being optimistic here) original intent as an aid tool, but right now it's not good.

AI generators shouldn't be permitted to replace Creatives.

Period.
