Mantovani denies Casadei, last lap drama for Torres
The RNF rider grabs the win from Casadei after last lap contact between the number 40 and the Championship leader. Classic last-lap action at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya saw a determined Andrea Mantovani (RNF MotoE™ Team) snatch victory in Race 1, taking his second win of the season in style. Mattia Casadei (HP Pons Los40) led the way on the last lap but made contact early on that lap with title rival Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar Team), dropping Torres down to P7 as Casadei duelled Mantovani. Ultimately, Casadei was able to close in on Torres' Championship lead with an important 2nd place, with Hector Garzo (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE™) fully in the mix as well as he rounded out the podium. The lights went out for Race 1 in Barcelona and it was poleman Torres that led the way through Turn 1, but the Championship leader had Casadei glued to his rear wheel. The battle was about to commence and the heat was soon turned right up for the front four as Torres, Casadei, Mantovani, and Garzo scrapped it out for the top spots and the last lap quickly came around. The drama then unfolded at Turn 1: Casadei was desperate to hit the front ahead of Torres and the Italian moved ahead of the Spaniard, taking a tight defensive line into the corner. That saw the title-fighting duo cross paths, forcing Torres to sit up and run on at Turn 1. He slotted back in, but the fight for the win was done. Casadei led the way but it was Mantovani's time to shine as he pushed his way past his compatriot to take an incredible victory, with Garzo forced to watch on in third. Ferrari came home in fourth, ahead of Nicholas Spinelli (HP Pons Los40) and Randy Krummenacher (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE™), whol held on in front of Torres.

Ferrari fends off Torres to complete fabulous double at Assen
The Italian rides the wave all the way into summer break, now just eight points off Torres in the standings After a Race 1 that went almost to the wire, Race 2 most definitely did for the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship at the TT Circuit Assen. But once again, Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar Team) just couldn't quite get the better of Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE™). The Italian completed the double in style to move within eight points of Torres as the Spaniard was forced to settle for second, with Mattia Casadei (HP Pons Los40) slicing through from P10 to complete the rostrum. Torres took the holeshot, with Eric Granado (LCR E-Team) slotting into second initially and Ferrari third, and the trio were separated by absolutely nothing as Casadei got to work behind moving up into fourth. Also on the move was Andrea Mantovani (RNF MotoE™ Team) as he got his elbows out to get into the fight for fifth, taking on Randy Krummenacher (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE™) and Kevin Zannoni (Ongetta SIC59 Squadra Corse). There was then drama at the front as Granado tagged the back of Ferrari, the Brazilian staying on and not losing the position but losing some time as the duel ahead then pulled a gap. And that gap stayed there as the race became a two-rider showdown for the win. What would turn out to be the winning overtake came with four to go as Ferrari pulled an absolute stunner to sweep around Torres and into the lead at Hoge Heide, with the Spaniard then left with the same challenge as Race 1: stay with him. This time around, that he did... on the final lap getting to within possible striking distance. But not without some serious risk, and Torres instead made it a straight shot towards the line, just losing out by 0.078 – and taking those valuable 20 points as Ferrari once again proved impeccably quick with his third win of the year. Casadei also most definitely impressed, up seven positions from his grid slot and completing the podium. Mantovani suffered a late crash out of podium contention, and Granado took fourth one place ahead of teammate Miquel Pons. Pons managed to pip Zannoni by the flag, with Alessandro Zaccone (Tech 3 E-Racing) taking P7. Nicholas Spinelli (HP Pons Los40) took eighth ahead of a tough finish for Krummenacher, with Kevin Manfredi (Ongetta SIC58 Squadra Corse) beating Hector Garzo (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE™) to the final place in the top ten. That's a wrap on the first half of the season... and it's next stop the British GP as the electric field take on Silverstone for the very first time. Torres heads the table by only eight points now... so make sure to come back for more!

World Supersport: Aegerter Lowers Lap Record During FP2 At Assen
Editorial Note: The previous Supersport All-Time Lap Record was 1:37.470, which was set by Steven Odendaal in FP1.
SS FP2
More, from a press release issued by Dorna WorldSBK Press Office:
Perfect homecoming: Aegerter puts Ten Kate Racing on top after day 1 at Assen The Swiss rider went under lap record pace in both practice sessions at the iconic Dutch venue as the Dutch Ten Kate Racing outfit look for victory on home soil
The FIM Supersport World Championship returned to action at the TT Circuit Assen for the Prosecco DOC Dutch Round with Swiss rider Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) topping the combined classification as he took to the track adorned in iconic yellow colours on both his leathers and Yamaha YZF-R6 as his Ten Kate Race outfit celebrated their home race.
ODENDAAL VS AEGERTER
The morning Free Practice 1 session was a battle between Aegerter and Steven Odendaal (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team) as the South African rider looked to get back to winning ways and close the gap to Aegerter in the Championship. Both riders went under the lap record throughout the day, with Aegerter posting a 1’37.274s to top the times at the end of Friday by just 0.041s; the duo separated by just over a tenth but half-a-second clear of their nearest rivals.
Spanish rider Manuel Gonzalez (Yamaha ParkinGo Team) put in a strong last lap at the end of the disrupted Free Practice 2 session to slot into third place as he goes in search for his first WorldSSP podium at the venue he made his Moto2
debut at a few weeks ago. Philipp Oettl (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) claimed fourth place on his Kawasaki ZX-6R, the only rider to not improve in the afternoon Free Practice 2 session.
ROUNDING OUT THE TOP TEN
2019 WorldSSP Champion Randy Krummenacher (EAB Racing Team) had a strong Friday showing as he continues to build up speed on his return to the Championship with fifth place, ahead of Frenchman Jules Cluzel (GMT94 Yamaha) in sixth. Turkish star Can Öncü (Kawasaki Puccetti) claimed seventh place, just three tenths behind his teammate, as he looks to kickstart his campaign and fight for podiums and victories.
Estonian rider Hannes Soomer (Kallio Racing) claimed a top-ten finish on Friday with eighth place in the combined classification, finishing less than a tenth ahead of Niki Tuuli (MV Agusta Corse Clienti). Tuuli had a disrupted day on Friday after he suffered a highside crash on his MV Agusta F3 675 machine in Free Practice 1, although he was able to take to the track afterwards. Kevin Manfredi (Altogo Racing Team) claimed a top ten finish and was also the highest place WorldSSP Challenge rider in the standings after Friday.
LOOKING TO BREAK INTO THE TOP TEN
It’s a close field in WorldSSP after Friday running at Assen with Italian rider Federico Caricasulo (GMT94 Yamaha) missing out on a spot in the top ten by just 0.029s; eventually finishing in 11th place. Raffaele De Rosa (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) claimed 12th place, with Mattia Casadei (VFT Racing), a substitute rider for Davide Pizzoli, in 13th place.
A strong opening to the season for Luca Bernardi (CM Racing) wasn’t enough to put the Sammarinese rider into the top ten as he finished in 14th place, over a second behind Aegerter’s time, with Michel Fabrizio (G.A.P. MOTOZOO Racing by Puccetti) rounding out the top 15.
Sheridan Morais (Wojcik Racing Team), standing in for the injured Christoffer Bergman, claimed 16th on his return to the Championship for the first time in three years, finishing ahead of the also-returning Peter Sebestyen (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team); Sebestyen making his return to the Championship with the Evan Bros. outfit. Daniel Webb (WRP Wepol Racing) claimed 18th spot on his return from injury with Vertti Takala (Kallio Racing) and Leonardo Taccini (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) completing the top 20.
TO NOTE…
Suzuki made a return to the WorldSSP paddock with Finnish rider Eemeli Lahti (HRP Suzuki) in 23rd place. The afternoon Free Practice 2 session was interrupted by a Red Flag when Shogo Kawasaki (G.A.P. MOTOZOO Racing by Puccetti) crashed with around five minutes of the 45-minute; Kawasaki able to walk away from the crash and the session resuming after a short delay. Kawasaki was declared unfit following the crash with a right wrist contusion and concussion.
