Nicky Hayden passed away seven years ago today. the last American to win a world championship, he was a hero of the sport and sorely missed. in his honor, i want to highlight a few of my favorite stories about him:
he got his start in dirt track racing, winning his first grand national dirt track race in 1999, when he was 18, at the Hagerstown Half-Mile in Hagerstown, MD, a place i've been many times. in the same year he won the AMA Supersport championship, and three years later, became the youngest ever AMA Superbike champion. i would argue having a dirt track background gave Hayden a unique talent for road racing -- riding on dirt imparts and requires a strong sense of the back tire. Hayden himself concurred:
while in AMA Superbike, Nicky wrote a column in Roadracing World magazine called Young Gun. i sorely miss these types of features: in the nineties, Kevin Schwantz also wrote for Roadracing World. they gave unique insights into the operations of a pro racing paddock. i unfortunately couldn't find any clippings from Nicky's column online. here's David Swarts, staff writer for Roadracing World, remembering Nicky's contributions:
Nicky's congeniality was his greatest strength. his first ever teammate in MotoGP was Dani Pedrosa, with whom he had a perfect television rivalry; hammer-and-tongs on track, but always respectful and fair to one another. Pedrosa crashed out Hayden at Estoril in 2006, almost eliminating his championship hopes. Motorsport.com reflects on their rivalry:
they were able to compete on track and be committed to beating the other while still remaining respectful, something that not every team could do.
just about everyone remembers Hayden for his kind personality, his skill on track and his trademark Kentucky accent. he was someone who was able to compete, win and lose, without the pressure warping his perspective. he took losses in stride: he credits his use of the number 69, which has now been retired in his honor, to the fact that his own father wore it while racing in dirt track, and constantly crashing out. whether he was upright or upside down in the dirt, his number read the same.

Special Liveries for the Official WorldSBK and MotoGP Teams for the Misano Races
The return of Giallo Ducati: special liveries for the official WorldSBK and MotoGP teams for the Misano races. Ducati pays tribute to its history in the world of racing by announcing that both the official WorldSBK (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Team) and MotoGP (Ducati Lenovo Team) teams will compete in the Misano rounds of their respective World Championships with a special livery characterized by the return of Giallo Ducati colour.
The project was presented during a press conference held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in which Centro Stile Ducati Director Andrea Ferraresi took part together with the Italian designer Aldo Drudi, the man who created the special livery . The unveiling for the fans took place shortly before the formation lap of Race-1 of the Italian WorldSBK round, when the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Team opened the garage door and the official riders, World Champion Alvaro Bautista and teammate Michael Ruben Rinaldi, entered the track astride their respective Panigale V4 R in Giallo Ducati with race suits coordinated with the shades of the bike.
Yellow is a colour that has an important tradition in the history of the Bologna-based motorcycle manufacturer. The first sport motorcycles in this colour date back to the first half of the '70s (the 750 Sport and 750 SS Desmo of the Spaggiari team), but it was in the '90s that Giallo Ducati, the colour that specifically inspired this livery, had the moment of greatest popularity with the adoption in the world of racing, which then extended to series production. The memorable models in Giallo Ducati certainly include the Ducati 748, whose racing version took Paolo Casoli to victory in the 1997 edition of the Supersport World Series, without forgetting superbikes such as the 916, 996, 749, 999 and other various models in the range.
“Ducati has an extraordinary history of which its passionate fans are extremely proud. The yellow colour is an important part of this and we have chosen to celebrate it through a contemporary livery full of energy. – declared Andrea Ferraresi, Ducati Centro Stile Director - Colour is an essential ingredient for brand recognition and a fundamental element for all Ducatisti. Ducati is Red, but Yellow also belongs to us and at the same time has an important tradition in Italian motorsport. Giallo Ducati reflects important aspects of our identity, such as energy, enthusiasm and audacity and is a really nice tribute to our sporting history in the year in which we race as World Champions in the two most important motorcycle championships".
From a chromatic point of view, the livery of the Panigale V4 R of the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Team has been designed starting from the original graphic base. Giallo Ducati becomes the dominant colour of the bike and is crossed by black, grey and white blocks and lines, creating a combination that celebrates the sporting history of the Bologna-based motorcycle manufacturer, but at the same time gives Giallo Ducati a modern identity. Later, when they're waiting for a post-podium ride back to the hotel and the humiliation of not even having a motorhome is boiling high under her skin, Ana breaks.
"How come you don't talk to me?" She asks, facing the near-empty parking lot.
Maria is silent beside her. Ana hears her slow, consistent breathing, like a fucking Zen master and it makes her want to set the world upside down and see if that will crack Maria's veneer.
"We were in the same paddock," Ana says, "For years."
"I guess I never got the chance," Maria says, finally, and she sounds a little tentative to speak. It feels like victory.
"Bullshit," Ana scoffs.
"We were in different classes, MotoE has a shorter calendar–"
"Ten fucking years," Ana says. "Moto3 and Supersport," She knows she's gotten under Maria's skin, feels her shoulders harden, and doesn't turn to look.
Maria huffs, "I was a kid,"
"You were the only other woman. It was you and me and an entire fucking paddock of men, multiple paddocks of men,"
"Why are you asking me this now?" Maria says, and she steps in front of Ana, blocks out the setting sun. Ana suddenly doesn't know where to put her hands. Maria is too tall like this, those couple extra centimeters an impassable barrier, her face angled down, stern. There's still sweat-slick hair pressed to her forehead, loose from her ponytail.
It doesn't matter. Maria continues, "You had a championship. You got what you wanted, and I was still fighting to earn single points. Why can't you just let me work in peace,"
"That's all it is? Work?"
"I don't need to defend myself to you,"
"Really? 'Cause on track–"
"Is that what this is about?" Maria shouts, incredulous, and it feels like Ana's finally found a gap in her armor. She watches Maria collect herself, gathering the kind of meditative deep breath that puffs out her chest and makes Ana want to knock it out of her. Her face tightens and relaxes. "We're racers. We race. That's our job. None of it is personal until you start taking it personal."
“Everything is personal! It’s all personal! They called us bitches, dykes, said we were only there to fill quotas, said we never had a fucking chance. How does that not mean something to you?”
“I had to keep it out of my head. Why can’t you see that? It was the only way to survive!”
“But you didn’t have to do it alone,”
“How else?” Maria laughs, darkly, mean. “There was no one on my side, nobody cared about me!”
“I did!” Ana shouts, and feels the scar tissue in her back stretch and contract as she tightens her shoulders. Maria’s gone completely still, her face blank, frozen.
“I needed you,” Ana murmurs.
The car pulls up.

If you know can you tell me the difference between the superbike bikes and the wwcr bikes? I’m new to this
Hi anon 👋👋👋👋
I don't know how much do you know about Superbikes in general, so let me explain a bit first. Superbike is a competition where street bikes race. Those bikes are a bit modify (some materials are substituted for fiber carbon, the breakes are different, etc) to make them go fast. The core of the bike is the street bike, and in fact you could buy them.
The World Superbikes championship is divided in 3 categories, WSBK (or World superbikes), WSSP (or World Supersport and once upon a time it was WSSP600) and WSSP300 (World Supersport 300). In WSBK the bikes have a 1000cc, in WSSP is 600cc and WSSP300. And because not all bikes have the same cylinder capacity, they do admit some variation like Kawasaki uses a 399cc in WSSP300 or Yamaha is a 321cc. Same happens in WSSP, not all bikes are 600cc, but they made them compatible by limiting top speed, torque and power).
Now what about the WWCR? Well they all use the Yamaha YZF-R7 that is a 689cc and actually qualifies to be in WSSP because MV Agusta uses a 798 and Ducati a 955cc (all info is from their web of each manufacture).
So what is the real difference? Misogyny. As simple as that. FIM wanted to 'promote' women in motorsport and created this.
Right now, Yamaha is the sole supplier with the R7 as I said before (you can check it in WSBK page too). However, Yamaha already has a capable bike to compete in WSSP, the Yamaha YZF R6. I think it was @aleixespargaro-apologist who pointed out that Yamaha is discontinuing the R6 production. And on top of that, the R7 (the WWCR one) is chapear than the R6 (WSSP). In the table below, there's a comparative between the bikes. (this is from the street bikes they sell, so be cautious because some data could be different taking into account the modifications they make to race).
But basically, the R7 is wider, longer and heavier than the R6 and with less power. So basically the difference is that WWCR is just plainly slower because Yamaha has wanted it.
Actually if you look at the lap times, the top riders where setting the same times as the top riders in WSSP300 is a bike, so congratulations Yamaha you have your new WSSP300 bikes.
Sorry for the rant there. Returning to your question, the difference is the cylinder capacity that translates as the engine capacity of the bikes.
I hope this helps, and if you have any more questions, my inbox is always open

Mission King Of The Baggers, BellissiMoto Twins Cup And Mission Super Hooligan National Championship Classes Join The Daytona 200. MotoAmerica, North America’s premier motorcycle road racing series, has announced a total of 143 entries for the three classes that kick off the 2024 MotoAmerica Championship at Daytona International Speedway, March 7-9. The 82nd running of the Daytona 200 will feature 67 riders with 28 of those from outside the United States. The race can also boast of three past Daytona 200 winners (Josh Herrin, Brandon Paasch and Danny Eslick) on the 2024 entry list. But the Daytona 200 isn’t the only race happening at the Speedway as the Mission King Of The Baggers, BellissiMoto Twins Cup and Mission Super Hooligan National Championship will also be in action on the high banks at the “World Center Of Racing” for what will be the start of their championship seasons. The entry list for Mission King Of The Baggers is 16-riders strong, and it features defending class champion Hayden Gillim aboard his RevZilla/Motul/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson as he battles against rivals Kyle Wyman and James Rispoli who represent Harley-Davidson Factory Racing. The other American Big Twin motorcycle company, Indian Motorcycle, are represented by Tyler O’Hara, who is teamed up this year with fellow S&S/Indian Challenger rider Troy Herfoss, a three-time Australian Superbike Champion who will be making his Daytona debut. And speaking of riders from other countries, the pride of Andorra, a MotoGP podium finisher, as well as a World Supersport and World Superbike multi-time race winner, Rubén Xaus is all-in on his Feuling Parts Harley-Davidson. He’ll have to face Bobby Fong, who is back aboard his SDI/Roland Sands Racing/Indian Challenger. Then there’s the three-rider Saddlemen/Harley-Davidson team with Cory West, Jake Lewis, and Travis Wyman. And let us not leave out the surprise signing of the off-season with Hayden Gillim’s teammate Rocco Landers also aboard a RevZilla/Motul/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson. Mad Monkey Motorsports’ Max Flinders is hopeful of duplicating or improving on his podium result from the last KOTB race in New Jersey in 2023 and Trask Performance is fielding Shane Narbonne. Indian insider (he’s an engineer) Kyle Ohnsorg is back aboard a Challenger after a podium-reaching performance at COTA last year. Flat tracker Jesse Janisch is bringing his sideways-sliding style to the Suburban Motors H-D/Slyfox/Trask Performance team. And they will all be joined by Danny Eslick, the four-time Daytona 200 winner who will be aboard his Nowaskey Extreme Performance Harley. Meanwhile, 25riders have entered the BellissiMoto Twins Cup series opener with two races around the 3.51-mile, 12-turn Daytona road course. Defending Twins Cup Champion Blake Davis will start the season as the favorite on his Yamaha YZF-R7, but he will face a considerable challenge from both Aprilia and Suzuki-mounted riders. The Suzuki attack is led by Team Hammer’s Rossi Moor on the new Suzuki GSX-8R with Vance & Hines also fielding Rocco Landers on a GSX-8R. Aprilia, meanwhile, will be well represented by Robem Engineering’s Gus Rodio, who will be teamed up with Italian Alessandro Di Mario and wild-card New Hampshirite Ben Gloddy, who is returning to the team for at least one round (and maybe more?). And, speaking of Italy, new team TopPro Racing has brought in Romeo Chiavini to pilot an Aprilia. Those four will be joined by eight more Ape-riders ready to go “660” on the field of 25. Along with Davis in the Yamaha YZF-R7 camp are former class champion Kaleb DeKeyrel, South African Dominic Doyle, and his Giaccmoto Racing Yamaha teammate Sonya Lloyd, who raced in last year’s Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race. program, and British-racer-living-in-Canada Jack Roach returns to MotoAmerica after a hiatus of a couple of years. Thirty-five riders have entered the series opener for the Mission Super Hooligan National Championship with that class featuring 12 different manufacturers doing battle. Making its debut at Daytona is the Yamaha MT-09 SP, a three-cylinder motorcycle that will be piloted by three different riders, including Italian-born, Switzerland-residing FIM Endurance World Championship-winning rider Niccolò Canepa. Defending class champion Tyler O’Hara is back aboard his S&S/Indian FTR1200, Andy DiBrino returns aboard his Competition Werkes/Gray Area/KTM 890 DUKE R, and Stefano Mesa will once again be aboard his Tytlers Cycle Energica Eva Ribelle RS electric bike. Plus, there are seven Harley-Davidson Pan Americas, a couple of BMW R nineTs, two Ducatis, a pair of Suzuki SV1000s, an Aprilia Tuono, a Buell XB12XT, and even a Victory Vegas in the mix.

UAE Triathlon– All You Need to Know About It
The UAE has become a triathlon hotspot. Each year, discerning triathletes visit the country to join challenging events like the Ironman 70.3 Dubai, Race ME, Supersports, and the World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi. If you’re looking to race soon, you should be able to find many events every month or every weekend, even after the summer months. Here’s more information about joining a triathlon in the UAE.
Stay up-to-date
Keep yourself updated with the schedules of upcoming triathlons in the UAE, so you can pace yourself and know when to start training for the competition you want to join. It also ensures you can register on time and plan your trip if you’re coming from another Emirate or abroad.
Challenge yourself
Triathlons provide opportunities to test your strength and endurance. Contestants are required to swim, cycle, and run. However, being the fastest and aiming to win can be optional. If you’re joining your first triathlon in the UAE, try to have as much fun as possible. It’s also a great time to meet other triathletes and connect with professionals who can inspire and motivate you.
It requires dedication and discipline.
Triathlons in the UAE are no different from those in other countries. They require peak performance, which you can only achieve through discipline, dedication, and preparation. So, you must be ready to give your best shot to increase your chances of getting the best results and reaching your ultimate potential.
Invest in a good training program.
Even elites and professional athletes take the time to train as much as they can before a triathlon. However, they don’t do it alone. They sign up for appropriate training programs and work with experienced triathlon coaches. Some would join triathlon training camps with suitable training grounds, nutritious meals, accommodation, and expert staff to support them as they improve their game.
Try to find triathlon training across the UAE. It’s a worthy investment, especially with a science-based training program. Seasoned coaches will work with you to help you achieve your triathlon goals and address any concerns or questions you may have about triathlons.
