So, since a certain someone wanted to know more about the Hojo-siblings I ended up drawing Suzume and her relationships to the other three guys of her Generation.
She’s probably on best terms with Akio Hayama, which will specifically show later on in the story and in “Shokugeki no Hiraku”. They do genuinely like each other and have a lot of respect for each other. You’ll often hear Suzume state that Akio is by a long-shot her favorite 114th Generation member in the Elite Ten. She also tries to support him here and there, something Akio doesn’t really know how to deal with.
Her relationship with Hiraku is not so good though. Now Suzume normally does rarely hate on people, but she does not really like Hiraku. It’s not hate and sometimes she will use her usual, friendly teases on him (although they often go no where...’cuz Hiraku is just being dense) but well, she is a little bit annoyed about how the entire school kisses the ground he walks on and especially annoyed how Hiraku, in her eyes, doesn’t really seems to acknowledge the responsibility that come with his popularity. (Believe it or not, but Suzume can actually be very level-headed, which is one of the many reasons why she’s so popular. She is relaxed, fun and laidback but she’s not at all completely careless and takes certain matters quite seriously actually, which earned her a lot of respect actually). Also, there is kind off a rivalry going on on who’s the most popular senpai.
She can’t stand Shigeo though, which is no big deal since he can’t stand her either. They constantly insult and mock each other when in the same room. He finds her extremely annoying and obnoxious and she thinks he’s just one of the most nastiest persons around. They both think of each other as insufferable. Though Suzume certainly enjoys annoying him and always comes up with new techniques to do so. She one time gave him the “Most-Punchable-Face-Of-The-Year-Award”! Also this honestly:
And last not but least, I also drew her with the person of the 113th Generation, she’s the closest to:
Bestiiies and the ultimate “Cool-Big-Sis-Duo”!
Generally speaking, Suzume is a very popular person on Totsuki that is very respected but very easy to get a long with actually. She cares a lot for her the Chinese RS and her precious kohais (especially the girls), tries her best to be a good leader and a good role-model and a good inspiration for the youngsters!

Heyo!! How are you dear? I am so glad to have found your blog as there are so few active Soutaku blogs that I know of :(( And you are a fantastic writer, I speedran a few of your books these past nights!! I wanted to ask you, since your characterization is 10/10, what are a few of your Soutaku headcanons like as a couple?? Hope you have a lovely day <3
Thanks! I’m not going to lie that I was very surprised to see my blog as one of the top SouTaku ones the other day even though there isn’t a single piece of visual art originally from me. And thank you very much for checking out my stories as well! Your comment made me very happy!
As for my SouTaku HCs, I have quite a few of them. I won’t be able to remember them all, but I can list my bigger ones, which is quite a list as well. I hope you like them!
· If they go anywhere that has food, Soma will share with Takumi. He will either request to try what Takumi is eating or feed Takumi from his own plate. Like Soma would put the utensil he was using or the food in front of Takumi to prompt him to take a bite, or Soma would poke and whine until Takumi pushed his plate over, feed him the same way Soma does, or if it’s a food that they are holding in their hands and Soma gets impatient he will literally reach over and take a bite of it himself. (not too big, though.) This habit was actually started by Takumi during the train arc when they ran off to try different foods in Hokkaido and Takumi shoved his food in Soma’s direction for him to try it. After that, it was free game for Soma. Takumi doesn’t really mind unless someone else points it out and Takumi puts an end to it out of embarrassment until the next time they are alone. (He doesn’t care at all after they are married, though.)
· I mentioned this before, but Takumi teaches Soma how to use the mezzaluna. Soma asks how to use it one day and Takumi was happy to teach him. There were many days that Soma spent in the kitchen by himself trying to get the motions just right.
· If Takumi starts telling Soma about Italy, there is a very high chance that he will start to lapse into a mix of Italian and Japanese, something he does at home. Especially when he talks about his family. Soma doesn’t stop him to tell him that he can not understand half his words. He thinks it’s cute to see Takumi that relaxed. It gets to the point where people ask him if he knows Italian, where Soma says no. Takumi is so embarrassed when he finally finds out what he does.
· Soma starts taking Italian classes. When he is finally able to, he starts speaking simple sentences to Takumi. When Takumi asks why he’s trying to learn Italian, Soma tells him that he is learning so he could understand him better. Of course, Takumi is embarrassed yet pleased by the gesture.
· Takumi is a person who doesn’t care for physical touch. He always looks uncomfortable when someone touches or jumps him. (Isami knows this but does it to bother him, anyways.) Soma, however, is a person who can’t help but to touch everything in sight. It gets worse when he’s excited, and he gets excited when he sees Takumi. Soma often drags Takumi around by the wrist or hand. Or he’ll sling an arm around his shoulders. Or shake him.If they sit together for long lectures or rides, Soma will fiddle with Takumi’s jacket or playfully tap or softly punch Takumi himself. Once they become official, Soma become a lot more physically affectionate. One of Soma’s favorite positions is to sit behind Takumi and have him lean against his chest.
· Takumi was the first one to have feelings for Soma. It was after Soma had won his mezzaluna back from Mimasaka. Soma started to see Takumi in a special light after they got into the Elite Ten. He loved that Takumi was the only one who could keep up with him. Soma also began to try to consider Takumi’s overall feelings and made sure not to ignore him as much as he did in their first year. Soma even feels bad about those incidents and apologizes, which Takumi says that it’s alright.
· I have an ever-growing list of who asks who to date/marry first and the scenarios to go with it. (I wrote about one in my OTP post, actually.) But the common theme in all of them is that one asks for the first date and the other asks for marriage first. I kind of favor Soma asking Takumi out on a date in front of their friends and Takumi just shuts down from elation and embarrassment. And Takumi just blurting out “Marry me.” to Soma one day.
· Going off with Soma making the first official move: Soma asks Isami how to say “I love you” in Italian.
· Soma loves pet names. He will call Takumi “Sweetheart” the most. He only does it when they are alone or around family and close friends, though, because he knows Takumi gets super embarrassed if they are in public. Takumi does do pet names as well, but only at home. He doesn’t have a favorite one for Soma, though.
· Takumi leaves the Trattoria to the rest of the family as he and Soma travel the world. Sometimes together, sometimes separate. They start off by living at Yukihira.
· They keep their personal life to themselves for the most part. They also keep their rivalry in public as well. The public does not even know that they are married at all for a couple of years because they wear their rings as a necklace because they are chefs. Even when the news comes out that they are both married, the public thinks they are married to other people. It takes several more years for the fact that they are married to each other to be out there. (They usually answer questions with “my spouse” or “my son” or other vague/possessive answers.) It’s not because they don’t want to tell anyone. People outside their main circle just perceive them as rivals.
· They both get really jealous if the other one gets flirted with for a certain amount of time. Takumi will just stew in emotions until Soma comes to calm him down. Soma will come up to the person trying to seduce his man. If it’s not a formal event, Soma will even wrap an arm around Takumi possessively. If it is, Soma would just make up an excuse to take Takumi away or just hover around him. But he’s always glaring at the other party.
· When it comes to intimacy, they are both switches. But Takumi is more into brat territory. Soma doesn’t mind the challenge, though. Also, Soma loves to tease Takumi, which Takumi pretends not to like.
· Takumi was raised in a richer environment than Soma. Even though his family was not as rich as the Nakiris, he could afford to buy fancier clothes and ingredients without looking too much at the price tag. As shown in the series, Soma is a bargain hunter. It bothers him when he and Takumi go shopping and Takumi is just placing expensive stuff in the basket. Several arguments and compromises have come from that.
· They both love children and would not mind adopting a child, but they don’t because they travel a lot. The main reason why they adopt Ciro is because of an emergency. (Long backstory that I might write about one day.)
· Because of the adoption, they severely limit their travels in order to be better parents to Ciro.
· They also adopt a Mastiff/Great Dane mix that Ciro found as a puppy in the streets. Takumi loves dogs as well and they were able to convince Soma to let them keep her. (Her name becomes Coffee, by the way.)
· Eventually, Soma brings up the suggestion to move to Italy, even though he would be moving away from his beloved restaurant. But he sees how big Coffee is getting, the rest of the Aldini family pressuring them to move, how much easier and better it would be for Ciro to be closer to family, and how happy Takumi is every time they visit his home country. (Soma really loves making Takumi happy.) They end up moving not too far from the Aldini trattoria, visiting the Yukihira during school breaks and a little more often when Ciro finally goes to Totsuki.
· As the years go by, Soma and Takumi slowly stay more and more in their Italian home. Soma grew to love the country and he did not have the heart to move Takumi away from Italy.

Fena: Pirate Princess EP#04 - The Mystery of the Stone: As the Bonito II sails to the German village of Libar-Oberstein, Fena tries to get her protectors to teach her how to fight, but with little success. Upon arriving in the village, they meet a woman named Arya, who takes them to see her grandfather the Burgomaster. In exchange for Yukimaru sharpening his knife, the Burgomaster offers to help them find the origin of the stone. He tells them that the stone actually came to the village from somewhere in France, but the buyer was listed as La Pucelle d'Orléans, the nickname given to Joan of Arc. However, the listed date of purchase was in 1436, five years after she was burned at the stake, adding to the mystery of the stone. As Fena's crew leave the village, Fena recalls someone mentioning the name "La Pucelle" to her as young child. Meanwhile, Abel grimaces over a painting he calls "La Pucelle" as he continues pursuing Fena.
Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon EP#09 - Meifuku, the Meioju: Konton, one of the Four Perils, destroys a fortress atop a mountain to establish his lair. Jūbei announces that there is a huge bounty on him and Moroha accepts the mission, but Towa and Setsuna refuse, until Jūbei suggests that they should use the money as a reward for info about the Dream Butterfly. The three girls fight Konton, but his armor is too strong for their attacks and they are overpowered until Meifuku, a Meiōjū child appears to rescue them. Meifuku reveals that Konton killed his father and used part of his shell to make his armor. Since then he has searched for Konton in order to retrieve it and give his father a proper funeral. Konton attacks the group and Towa realizes that Konton created his armor by draining the demonic energy from Meifuku's father's shell, returning it to normal by infusing it with her own energy. Without his armor, Konton is forced to flee. Meifuku returns his father's shell so that he can finally pass away, and the girls regret that they could not get the bounty on the enemy's head, while a humiliated Konton swears vengeance on them from inside his new cavern lair.
My Hero Academia Season 5 (Endeavor Agency Arc) EP#105 (17): The Hellish Todoroki Family: A week into the work studies, Endeavor gets a call from Fuyumi who suggests bringing the trio home for dinner. The dinner soon gets uncomfortable as the conversation switches from being about Fuyumi's cooking to how Endeavor prevented Todoroki from eating Natsuo's cooking. Natsuo soon gets up and leaves. After dinner, Midoriya and Bakugo overhear Todoroki and Fuyumi talking about everything. Todoroki says he can't forgive Endeavor so easily for what he did to their mother and is unsure of how to feel. Midoriya tells Todoroki he believes he's getting ready to forgive Endeavor, that it’s fine to not be able to forgive him if he wants. Endeavor thinks about what he can do for his family after all this time and wishes that Toya could’ve been there too. A few days earlier, a hooded man is released from prison and walks around a Christmas-decorated bazaar, gleefully smiling when he comes across a television playing Endeavor's victory over High-End.
Food Wars: The Fourth Plate (Promotion Exams Arc) EP#63 (02) - The Strobe Flashes: As the second round continues, Mimasaka provides Kuga with a bottle of specially prepared smoked soy sauce, reminding everybody that under the rules of a Team Shokugeki, chefs on the same team can help each other. Kuga then starts smoking fried pork with green tea leaves. Meanwhile, Mimasaka faces off against Saitou, a sushi chef, making tuna a perfect ingredient for him. Mimasaka uses an improved version of his Perfect Trace technique, Perfect Trace Flash, to instantly copy Saitou's moves. Mimasaka and Saitou complete their nearly identical sushi dishes, while Rindou completes her Laziji Caiman dish and Megishima finishes his African Ramen. However, Mimasaka and Megishima lose to Rindou and Saitou. Kuga then presents his dish to the judges.
Black Clover: The Spade Kingdom and the Dark Triad Arc EP#163 - Dante vs. the Captain of the Black Bulls: Grey recalls how her stepmother doted on her beautiful stepsisters while she was abused. After receiving her Grimoire she made herself beautiful, causing her stepsisters to attack her. She ran away only to be saved from bandits by Gauche who told her to find some resolve. Grey began assuming her giant scary form to survive, joining the Bulls to be close to Gauche. Desperate not to let Gauche die, Grey uses her transformation magic to turn Gauche’s wound into healed flesh. Dante knocks Asta unconscious and decides he wants both Vanessa and Grey as mistresses, but they are saved when Finral arrives with Yami. Yami shows he can use his Black Hole spell to generate gravitational fields and resist Dante’s gravity. Dante confirms Yami is the arcane mage he needs to cut through dimensions and reach the underworld. Yami responds by slashing Dante’s chest. The Disciples defeat the spirit guardians and begin destroying the Heart Kingdom. Luck challenges the Disciple Svenkin, who can manipulate his body to make it perfectly resistant to any magic, including Luck’s lightning. Disgusted by Svenkin’s selfish personality Luck uses a spell he learned from Gaja and turns himself into a spear of naturally generated lightning, which Svenkin cannot defend against, and shoots himself straight through Svenkin’s chest, defeating him.

food war, souma said. shokugeki, erina thought.
this is easily one of the best one-shots i have ever written prove me wrong
The second Yukihira barged into Erina’s office at Legislation belting out that old Tokyo Karan Koron song they were both humming during the freshman hell camp when he accidentally knocked her over, the first seat knew she was in for another shokugeki. He held court in the hall with Alice and Kurokiba for ten minutes before prancing gleefully into the office; the fact that she couldn’t hear a single word of their conversation was quite concerning indeed. When those three were within fifty meters of each other, it was usually louder than fucking sonic bass. As much as she loved quiet, silence from Yukihira Souma and Nakiri Alice was usually not a good thing.
“Yo, Nakiri! What’s up?”
“Yukihira-kun, it’s two in the morning,” she reprimanded. “Why the hell are you not doing your paperwork?”
“Let’s have a food war in two days,” he continued, ignoring the question. “Last one of the semester.” They’d had ritual shokugekis at least once a week since the beginning of their third year, usually for trivial matters like relegation of paperwork — now since when did she think Elite Ten work was trivial? Goddamn that lazy Yukihira! — and lunch. Never their seats. Erina wished she could say he had finally learned his place, well under her royal station, but she knew he was already too busy reviewing all his Michelin-starred job offers to pay attention to high school chair placements and shit.
It was funny to think he pretty much had the whole damn culinary world begging for his presence and yet he was on the verge of failing his French Language and Culture seminar because he was using a goddamn Paris travel guide from the Elite Ten Archive as his textbook. She couldn’t blame this on him, though—considering the fact that Saiba-sama sent him roughly six thousand yen a semester for “basic needs and shit, figure it out if ya wanna surpass me, ungrateful brat”, she was surprised Yukihira could even afford his prized bargain eggs.
Their shokugeki record currently stood at 42-15. Erina had relinquished a few wins just for his pride’s sake, not that he had any pride to start with. But never once had he called it a food war. She decided that he must’ve had a few too many shots of espresso that day. Caffeine did some weird shit to him occasionally, and he’d been drinking way more coffee than he should’ve due to the continuously growing stack of paperwork he’d procrastinated on.
“You already know you’re losing, right? What’re the terms? And what’s this for?”
“Gather a faction,” he replied. “We’ll each head a group of six members total and have a rentai food war. The theme will be ‘war zone.’”
“War zone? Alright, that’s new. Sounds fun. What’re we wagering?”
Yukihira didn’t miss a beat. “I want to take you out on a date over semester break.”
WHAT!? Now since when—!?
“You don’t mind, right?” he asked, and Erina was surprised to see how anxious he looked. Now that was a first. Yukihira Souma, flustered?
Erina flipped her hair over her shoulder in an attempt to hide her blushing. “I mean, it’s not like I will lose, so I acquiesce. Let’s see. What do I want from you? Ah. If, no, when I win, I want you to have all your paperwork done by the Friday after the shokugeki.”
Yukihira ran his tongue over his lower lip and picked at the knot of his headband. “Alright, that’s a deal. See you tomorrow, Nakiri. Prepare yourself and your faction for our rentai food war.”
“You mean rentai shokugeki.”
“Rentai food war. Team Yukihira will be me, Alice, Kurokiba, Yoshino, and Mimasaka.”
“You know that’s only five people, right?”
“My bad! Five people per faction.”
Erina was slightly confused that he hadn’t tried to get Hayama or Takumi. He would need them all if he were to win against her in a shokugeki, especially now that she’d have team members on her side as well. “If that’s the case, I highly doubt it’s going to stay Team Yukihira for much longer. I will be looking forward to the shokugeki with Team Denmark Nakiris. Now leave. Your presence here is disturbing me. I have to finish this stupid proposal. Any chance of you doing it for me?”
“Nah, I’m heading back to the dorm. I have a shokugeki first thing in the morning. Night, Nakiri.”
Throwing a sultry grin over his shoulder, Yukihira sauntered out of her office, and Erina listened as he bumbled down the hall—Night, Kurokiba! Alice!—and accidentally knocked over a coatrack in the lobby—Ow! Fuck!—before she heard his scooter zoom past the Legislation building.
-
Let the record show that the first seat had had her doubts about the legitimacy of this particular shokugeki starting from the moment he called it a food war, but when Yukihira and company emerged from the ingredients warehouse with nothing but a load of tomatoes and a covered shopping cart, Erina knew for sure the shit had hit the fan. She and her faction—Hisako, Hayama, Megumi, and Takumi—had begun preparing an elite gourmet emulation of a military ration meal, but before long, Team Nakiri was just watching what in the sam fucking hill Team Yukihira was doing.
Alice dropped the tomatoes into her centrifuge and soon enough they had a few dozen vials of that weird liquid umami she’d debuted in the Autumn Elections back in freshman year. Then Yukihira yanked the canvas sheet from over the shopping cart and revealed ten gigantic Nerf water guns.
Holy shit. Erina groaned. War zone. I should’ve known.
And when the heiress to the Nakiri kingdom and future queen of the culinary world found herself being pelted with liquified tomatoes, she and her carefully organized, elite faction were utterly helpless, which was kind of a letdown considering the fact that they were all holding razor-sharp knives and other potentially hazardous cooking utensils (ladles could be dangerous!) while Team Yukihira was armed with literal plastic toys. Of course, Kurokiba was wearing his bandana, but his berserk mode could only look a certain degree of threatening when he was venting fire, bellowing at the top of his lungs, and—wait for it—blasting the shit out of Hayama with two hot pink water guns.
Erina took the beating with all the dignity she could muster and contented herself with promising that Yukihira Souma would not live to see another day.
Or, maybe she’d go out with him first. What the hell, she’d have all the time in the world to annihilate him afterwards.

the 92nd gen. guys going through a labor simulator? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) with soueri, takumegu, ryoali, akisako, ikumi x isami, ryoko x ibusaki, and marui x zenji as supports?? you can choose the other supports! thaaaaanks
OHOOHOHOHO. And I’ll pair Yuki with Marui haha, maybe that’s what you meant to put.
SoRina:
SOMA IS JUST SUFFERING SO MUCH.
Erina is quite terrified she’ll have to endure this someday.
“IT HURTS, IT HURTS, WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS.”
HE IS SQUEEZING ERINA’S HAND.
“THIS IS THE WORST, THIS IS THE WORST, I CAN’T.”
He just lays in Erina’s arms after, quietly saying sorry that he’ll make her go through this when they have their own children.
TakuMegu:
TAKUMI IS CRYING.
“THIS HURTS SO FUCKING MUCH, HOW THE FUCK-”
He’s having small reflexes and he wheezes and he is just crying.
Megumi is just squeezing his hand as much as he is squeezing hers.
HE JUST WANTS TO MOVE AROUND, ANYTHING TO DISTRACT HIM.
Takumi just lets Megumi know how much he loves her and how he’ll be there for her when she has to go through this.
RyoAli:
RYOU IS JUST CURSING SO MUCH.
Alice is telling him to SUCK IT UP AND PUSH.
“FUUUUUUCK. WHAT THE FUCK.”
He is trying so hard to distract himself.
“THESE ARE CONTRACTIONS???”
He knows Alice will do so much better than he ever will, I mean come on.
AkiSako:
Cannot handle this pain AT ALL.
“I FEEL LIKE I’M GETTING RAN OVER BY A BUS REPEATEDLY.”
He is just yelling so much as he literally kicks around.
Hisako is trying to GET HIM TO DO BREATHING EXERCISES BUT THEY AREN’T WORKING.
Hayama literally feels like throwing up right after.
“We never speak of this..”
IsaIku:
Isami is trying so hard to remain calm.
“I hate this, I hate this sO MUCH.”
Ikumi is kind of laughing but then she realizes she’ll have to go through this herself.
Isami is quietly crying as more ‘contractions’ hit.
“This is a freaking machine. IMAGINE REAL LABOR.”
He starts screaming when the contractions are even worse.
IbuRyo:
Ibusaki is silently cursing at first. At first.
Ryoko just feels him squeeze her hand more and she’s kind of wincing but CONTRACTIONS MAN.
“I feel like…my stomach is being ripped apart…”
He STARTS CURSING OUT LOUD AS A SECOND WAVE OF CONTRACTIONS HIT HIM.
RYOKO JUST TRYING TO HELP HIM REMAIN CALM.
“I CAN’T FUCKING DO THIS.”
MarYu:
HE IS CRYING, HE IS SHAKING.
HIS VOICE PITCHES WITH EACH SCREAM.
“MAN UP, I’LL GO THROUGH WORSE.” is Yuki’s type of encouragement.
SHE IS WORRIED ABOUT HIM THOUGH.
MARUI IS KICKING EVERYWHERE.
He just sighs in relief when they shut the simulator off and Yuki is just laughing tbh.
Shoji + Daigo:
THEY DECIDED TO BE EACH OTHER’S SUPPORT BECAUSE BROS FOR LIFE.
Shoji wants to kind of kill Daigo as contractions hit him.
“SHUT THE FUCK UP, WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING.”
Daigo indeed shuts up when its his turn.
He is just ready to break Shoji’s hand.
He can’t handle this, he can’t!
Mimasaka + Everyone:
Wanted everyone to be with him as he gave ‘birth’ because he is so extra.
IS TRYING TO IGNORE THE PAIN.
“AHAHHHHHHHHHHHHH.” are the only words he manages to say.
He starts doing breathing exercises!
Has no idea why he did this in the first place.
Probably holds a fake baby at the end

The Opposite of Casual
Summary: How far they had come from hooking up at other people’s weddings, and all without moving a single step. Follows On Casual Commitments and Business Casual.
It had been late when Erina received the call.
She and Souma had been sitting on the hardwood floor of the empty space that would become their San Francisco restaurant, taking swigs from a half-empty bottle of Jack Daniels and arguing over paint swatches.
Cool colors, elegance, royal purple, blue blood. No, warm colors, energy, crimson and gold.
He had been leaving for Paris in the morning to see to his affairs, and kept trying to convince her come with him. He said he would miss her; that’s when she knew he had to be drunk. Because when had missing her ever stopped him from leaving at the drop of a hat? When they gotten so bad that they couldn’t spend a measly two weeks apart?
She refused his offer because she had to stay in California if they were to keep to the schedule and open Canvas in seven weeks. She had been losing her resolve with each sip of whiskey that burned down her throat and each kiss he left at the base of her neck.
A little before midnight, she had sighed and said, “Fine, but I’m only staying for a few days. You’re so lucky I’ve been craving Shino’s.” She’d picked up her phone to book a ticket just as it started ringing.
“Alice?” he asked with a knowing smile. It was a well known fact that the Nakiri cousins rarely went a day without talking.
“No, Chef Doujima,” she replied, perplexed. The head of the tourism department seldom called her at all, and always stuck to business hours (in her timezone, mind you) when he did. “I must’ve missed a deadline or something.” She shrugged, then answered. “Hello?”
“Erina-san,” the man said with a weary sigh. “I’m sorry to disturb you at this hour.”
“It’s no problem. I’m still awake. Is there something I should attend to?”
“So it’s no problem when you take business calls after hours,” Souma teased. She rolled her eyes, shushed him.
“It’s about your grandfather,” Doujima explained. “We were in the middle of a meeting when he collapsed. A heart attack.”
“What?” The room had started spinning at that point, all the alcohol hitting her at once. Ever since she was a child her grandfather had been absurdly healthy, in better shape than most thirty-somethings when he was well into his eighties, running and hiking and swimming whenever his schedule allowed. Just two months ago, Alice had sent her a video of him doing one-handed push-ups with Kurokiba. “No, that can’t be right.”
“We were quite surprised as well, but...”
She could scarcely hear him anymore. She was sobbing, or hyperventilating, maybe both and it felt like the air in the room was growing ever thinner, like she was stranded at the summit of some far off cliff. She could feel Souma rubbing her back while he asked her the questions, the are-you-okays and what’s-wrongs. Erina knew she was probably scaring him because he never saw her cry before, she had seen to that, but she couldn’t bring herself to answer.
“I...is he...I mean, did he...” She prayed Doujima wouldn’t make her say it out loud.
“Senzaemon-dono is still alive. We’re at the hospital, but they haven’t disclosed much information. They would prefer to speak with a blood relative. Your uncle Soe and his family are on their way from Denmark, but-”
“I...I understand,” she said, grasping for some of her usual composure. “I’m on my way. Thank you for letting me know, Doujima-san.”
After she hung up the phone Erina buried her face in Souma’s chest, letting the black cotton of his shirt absorb the last of her tears. She would give herself sixty seconds, no more, because she was still the demon lord of food’s granddaughter and heir. No matter what happened in the next few hours, she would have to be strong for Alice, for Auntie Leonora and Uncle Soe, for the Nakiri Group and the Tōtsuki network, students and alumni alike. She would leave her weakness on the worn out Restaurant Yukihira logo where it could do no harm.
When her minute was up, she wiped her eyes and exhaled deeply. “I can’t come to Paris,” she finally said, her voice level. “Not this time.”
It was time to go home.
They reached Tokyo after an eleven hour red-eye flight that Souma had more or less bribed their way onto. They flew coach, which made Erina miserable in addition to her being jet-lagged, mildly hungover, and terrified that her grandfather had died hours ago and she didn’t know because, in her words, humanity had advanced enough to put a man on the moon but still couldn’t find a way to give her cell service on a goddamn plane.
“Do you want to get an Airbnb first?” Souma asked her once they cleared customs. He was holding both of their carry-ons while skimming through flats near the hospital on his phone. “You should probably lie down for a bit.” He had bought her some sleeping pills before they got on the plane, but she was never out for more than an hour and always woke with fresh tears on her face.
“I’ll live,” she dismissed, her right eye starting to twitch as her iPhone, with newly restored cellular service, vibrated spasmodically in her hand. Her schedule, now sixteen hours behind, demanded a kind of attention that she simply did not have at the moment. She stared blankly at the events on her iCloud calendar—tastings, ingredient orders, interviews, a doctor’s appointment—things that had seemed so important less than a day ago. Then she deleted all of them.
“And we should get some food in you.”
Naturally Erina couldn’t defile her god tongue with the tasteless refuse that was airline food, and airline food in coach at that. She did feel weak, and more than a little bit dizzy. On a normal day his suggestions would have seemed rational, even preferable, but she was not in the mood for logic.
“Later.”
“Nakiri-”
“I am going to see my grandfather,” she snapped, and instantly regretted it. He had flipped his schedule upside down just to be there for her, and she’d been bratty and ungrateful the entire time. “I’m sorry,” she said. “I just-”
“Don’t sweat it.” He kissed her forehead, stunning her enough to disrupt her train of thought; Yukihira Souma had never been one for public displays of affection, and neither had she. How far they had come from hooking up at their friends’ weddings. “I’ll get us a cab.”
“Make it an Uber,” she said as they made their way to the terminal’s exit, and wondered if it sounded like I love you.
In the backseat of the cab, Erina had attempted to pull herself together. She brushed her hair, wrapping it into a neat bun, and dabbed concealer under her eyes. So by the time they reached the hospital, she looked at least something like her usual self.
The rest of the Nakiri clan had already assembled in the waiting room. Her uncle was flagging down a passing nurse, one who likely had nothing to do with her grandfather’s case, for questioning. Alice was sandwiched between her mother and her husband, sniffling, her eyes red and swollen. Auntie Leonora more than had her hands full between trying to make Alice eat some stale looking chips and telling Soe to stop harassing the hospital staff.
The first person to notice their arrival was actually Chef Doujima, who had kept a respectful distance from the family.
“Nakiri-san, Yukihira-kun,” he greeted. “Despite the circumstances, I’m pleased to see both of you well.”
“Why so formal, senpai?” Souma asked, all good-natured charisma as usual. “You seen my pops lately?”
“I ran into him in Spain a few months ago,” he replied.
“That’s more than I can say,” Souma said, and Erina couldn’t help but crack a smile. Even his own son couldn’t top Jouichirou’s vanishing act.
“How’s my grandfather?” Erina asked after a pause. “Have they said anything?”
“Two hours ago one of the doctors came out to say his condition was improving, but they haven’t let anyone see him yet.”
“That’s a relief,” she said, and was about to ask a follow up question when Alice fell upon them.
“Erina,” she called, waving. “What are you doing?”
“What?”
“You look like hell warmed over. Trying to hide those duffel bags under your eyes with drugstore concealer. Honestly.” She shook her head, knowing she’d taught her better. “I bet you came straight here from the airport.”
“You’re one to talk, Alice,” Erina replied. “You’ve probably been sitting right there since you got in from Denmark. How about you go find something to eat that didn’t come out of a vending machine?”
“Me? I bet you didn’t even eat anything on the plane because you’re so spoiled.”
“I’m spoiled? You don’t even fly commercial.”
“You’re such a hypocrite, Erina! How is only flying charter any different from only flying first class? Just go get some rest, already.”
“I’ll go when you do.”
At this point, Souma turned to Ryo who had quietly followed his wife over. “Do they always have to do this?”
“Every single time,” the dark haired chef replied.
“Yukihira,” Alice said, suddenly shifting her gaze his way. “You’re slacking. Hishoko would have had a hotel booked already. Go take her somewhere to lie down.”
“Uh...I tried,” he said, scratching the back of his head.
“So you’re gonna take her side?” Erina asked.
“What?” He glanced from Erina to Alice and back again. “How did I become part of this?”
“I told you not to get involved,” Ryo said.
Just then, Nakiri Soe approached the group. “I was finally able to track down the right doctor.”
“As expected of papa,” Alice said proudly.
Soe adjusted his glasses, clearly moved by his daughter’s praise. “At any rate, we won’t be able to see father for another two or three hours. You two should take a break. I’ll call right away if anything changes.”
Alice glanced at her father for a long while and then sighed. “I’m honestly fine, but I suppose I’ll go for Erina’s sake.”
“For my sake?”
“Yes, for your sake.”
The sounds of their argument continued all the way down the elevator shaft.
“Who knew Mimasaka-kun had a restaurant around here,” Erina said as they went through the sleek chrome doors.
“Everyone but you,” Alice replied.
“Welcome to Silhouette,” the greeter said. “Would you prefer to be seated at the bar or a table.”
“Bar,” Erina said. “We may need to leave in a rush.”
“Understood.” The young girl led them to their seats with a pleasant smile.
When the bartender asked for their drink orders, Erina only briefly hesitated before ordering a classic martini with two olives. “And you want a vodka cranberry, right?” she asked her cousin.
“Just sparkling with lemon for me,” Alice replied with a sigh. Erina glanced at her, surprised. Alice almost never passed up her go-to drink. She blinked once, twice.
“Alice...are you-”
“Six weeks now,” she said with a sly nod, smirking around the rim of her glass. “Ryo thinks he’s getting a daughter, but it’s a boy. I can feel it.”
“Congratulations!” Erina cried. “You...you’re going to be somebody’s mom.” It was a strange thought, really, considering how childish her cousin could be.
“Thank you for stating the obvious, Erina,” Alice said as their appetizers arrived. “But yeah, I guess I am.”
“Are you excited?”
Alice shrugged. “Excited, a little terrified, wondering how all this is going to work with the restaurants and the research facilities. But Erina, I’ve been thinking lately.”
“About?” She didn’t like the sound of her cousin’s voice, her playful lilt replaced with a more serious tone.
“I wasn’t supposed to say anything, but I was talking to Hayama the other day.”
Oh yeah. Erina kept forgetting that they were friends. “And?”
“He asked me for Hishoko’s ring size,” she said.
“He’s gonna propose?” Erina asked, her chest welling with happiness for Hisako, and for Alice, but there was a more unsavory feeling encroaching on her bliss. Not jealousy, never that, but perhaps a twinge of...panic.
“He’s gonna ask her to elope,” Alice said. “And now that Dr. Arato is officially a thing, it won’t be long before they end up with a pink haired brat or two.”
“That’s...” She sighed, the feeling of panic slowly intensifying. “That is true. In fact, I’m surprised they don’t have a kid together already. But what’s your point?”
“Do you want kids, Erina. Like in general?”
Erina shrugged. “Sure.”
“And if you were married, or in some kind of long term relationship, you might want them sooner rather than later, right?”
“Where are you going with this, Alice?” Erina asked. She was too tired to play mind games.
“Listen, I love Yukihira as much as the next person, and I’ve always rooted for you two to be together, but Megumi left him for a reason.”
“Do I look like Tadokoro-san to you?”
“It’s Aldini-san now,” Alice said with a pointed look. “All I’m saying is if you can’t have the life you want with him, maybe it’s time to start seeing someone else.”
“Alice, I appreciate your concern, but I am not having this conversation with you-”
“Good. Have it with him, preferably before you wake up in ten years wondering how you’re still a friend with benefits,” she instructed, just as her phone started vibrating. “We should get back to the hospital.”
Erina sighed and paid the bill before her cousin could protest. “Let’s get going.”
Erina had sat with her grandfather for a long while, hours after Alice and her side of the family had gone home. It had been agreed that after he left the hospital, he would spend a few months with them in Denmark while he recovered. Doujima Gin would take over as headmaster of the academy, and Megumi Tadokoro-Aldini, who had spent years as his second in command, would become head chef of the Tōtsuki tourism department.
Erina had stayed at her grandfather’s side, writing the contracts, making the calls, keeping her back straight and her voice steady despite the fact that she had never seen him so weak.
After the business had been settled, they talked a bit. He told Erina how much she reminded him of her mother, the daughter who had been taken from him too soon. He had rarely talked about it when Erina was a child. Too painful, she supposed. But mostly they just sat, each wholly content and comfortable in the other’s presence.
“Erina,” he said to her as it neared midnight. Visiting hours had ended long ago, but the Nakiri family was hardly bound by normal protocol. “Is that boy still out there?”
“Yes,” she sighed. “I told him already that he could leave.”
She had told him to go to the Airbnb, back to California, off to Paris, let him know in no uncertain terms that she did not expect him to wait for her. But there he continued to sit in the waiting room, reading yesterday’s paper and chugging what had to be his tenth or twelfth cup of coffee. Idiot.
“Send him in here,” the former headmaster said. “There’s something I’d like to say to him.”
Only the gods knew what that meant.
Author’s Notes: Thanks for reading! I’m thinking I’d like to wrap this story up in one or two more installments and then a short epilogue. The next chapter should resume right where this one leaves off.

Facts for yasu, ran and chieko please :3
Thank you for asking!
Yasu Ibusaki:
- I think everyone knows at this point that Yasu loves the forests to pieces. And being a major nerd over the forest, he does have his favorite kinds of trees: birchs and oaks.
- Yasu loves Anpans to death (He generally loves Adzuki Bean Paste so), they’re his favorite snack. Kind, generous angel Hiroshi often makes them for him in Polar Star. Or Satoshi does too at times.
- When they were younger, Yasu gave Chieko a lot of piggyback-rides. He still sometimes does to this day either when she’s drunk or when she had a long day or so and is just really exhausted and whiney.
- Yasu’s favorite genre for film would be thriller, especially the psychological ones. He also really enjoys Science Fiction and Fantasy, since those two genres are what he, Hideyoshi, Daisuke and Chieko mainly watch for their movie-nights.
- When he’s like working on stuff (schoolwork or something) Yasu has made it a bit of a habit for himself to snack on nuts while doing so. He likes walnuts and almonds especially.
- Not a big fan of having to wear a suit but he understands that certain occasions warrant one and when such an event comes up, he’ll dress up in a suit without complaining.
- His favorite thing to drink when the weather is hot is peach ice tea.
- Yasu really loves Japanese mythology and greatly enjoys media that features elements of it. His favorite movie growing up was Totoro.
- Yasu is super picky with cocktails. A lot are too sweet for his liking.
- Yasu loves the mountains. He dreams of visiting Peru one day to hike to Machu Picchu. He also wants to visit the Alps in Europe
Ran Mimasaka:
- Ran is whole-heartedly convinced that her father makes the best sandwiches.
- Ran does barely ever share her favorite pieces of media with others. Thing is that most of Dan’s favorite movies, books, plays etc. all have a bad ending. She knows the majority of people enjoy a happy ending, so when it comes to watching a movie with friends she does always let the others pick and enjoys her personal faves mostly on her own, unless specifically asked.
- While Ran’s favorite Form of theatre is and will always be opera, she does look into (and enjoys!) other variants of play on stage as well. She really enjoys Shakespeare’s works and she also likes various Musicals. Her favorite musical is “Les Misérables”.
- Ran used to have a crush on Noboru, he was basically her first “true love”. She moved on from it though but remains on very good terms with him.
- In return the chief editor of “Totsuki Sports” is crushing on Ran and constantly tries to convince her to work for the newspaper but she refuses because she rather uses her information-gaining-skills to help people instead of exposing them basically.
- Ran tries her best to not kill insects, no matter how annoying they can get. Usually she tries to catch them and set them out free.
- She thinks spiders are adorable.
- Next to Japanese, Ran can speak English but also Italian actually, which she mainly started learning because of her love for operas. She later teaches Kazuo in Italian.
- Ran had to wear braces once.
- Suzume is pretty sure that most of Ran’s money is spent on USB-sticks.
Chieko Marui:
- Chieko’s favorite flavours for her beloved macarons are pistachio, blueberry and, of course, matcha.
- Pretty much all of Shigeo’s underlings treat Chieko with a certain respect, since they fear them being mean to her could make the Boss angry. Umino and Yamada especially at times act like she’s some princess. Chieko is annoyed by this.
- Her relationship to Shigeo also affects the relationship she has to the other members of her research seminar. Chieko actually has a few male admirers in her seminar but barely any of them would make a move on her because no one wants to deal with a jealous Shigeo. Chieko herself takes no real note of her male Fanclub though.
- One of Chieko’s major ways to spent time with her little brother Takahiro is to watch animal documentaries.
- Chieko’s first toy ever was a plush duck, which Yuki had bought before she was even born. She still has it.
- Chieko is the person that Daisuke gets to bond over his retro-interests the most, as Chieko does have a large knack for various things vintage as well.
- Chieko prefers white chocolate over milk & dark chocolate.
- Most of Chieko’s apps are apps of various newspapers.
- Fashion-wise, Chieko really likes polkadots and navy stripes when it comes to patterns.
- Chieko’s favorite things to play as child were detective and lawyer. She would think up her own court-cases, let her dolls and plushies play the other roles.

🏀🌙🔮 for Ran and Takayuki :0000
//sighs// I had a god majority of the ask prepared already and then through stupidness I accidentally closed a tab and ahhhh
But thank you !! ;v; !
Ran Mimasaka
🏀 Does your OC have any skills that people wouldn’t expect them to have? Do they have a hobby or pass time that others would consider strange or weird? How did they learn this particular skill or pick up this hobby?
Ran is a Mimasaka in the end, who are more or less famous for some oddities and unpredictability.
One thing to name is that she knows how to sew, just like Ayano. In-fact she actually taught Ayano how to sew. But while Ayano mostly sews dolls and the likes, Ran mainly makes embroideries or fixes clothes. Fixing clothes is also what got her to sew in the first place. When they were children, a bully tore a shirt of Kazuo’s. A shirt that he really liked. So yeah, Ran learned how to sew, so she could fix it. Many would be surprised knowing she can sew, because her biker-aesthetic and large hands just don’t really give off that vibe.
Ran’s truly most outstanding talent though is that she can actually sing Operas! As child she was fascinated by watching operas (her first one was Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte”, that means “The Magic Flute”) and wanted to learn the skill of singing like that and so Subaru arranged her singing lessons. So yeah, Ran can sing operas and Noboru’s jaw hung low the first time he heard it.
She also got a talent for calligraphy, which she practiced together with Suzume because they thought it was fun.
🌙 What are some of your OC’s favourites? Favourite food, colour, season, stuff like that! Give some general simple facts that tend to get overlooked!
Since we already talked about operas, Ran’s favorite is “Un ballo in maschera”, translated to “A Masked Ball”, by Verdi. Ran’s favorite food is her mother’s fish stew, it’s a very special kind off fish stew but Ran loves it. Her favorite colors are black, red and green (in that order) and her favorite season is summer. Ran’s favorite sports are boxing and volleyball. Ran’s favorite animals are wolves. Her favorite flowers are red lilies, but she definitely also has a weak spot for orchids given that she was named after them. (”Ran” means orchid). She does have a weak spot for high heels and likes pulling them out for formal events. She also likes nail polish occasionally, mainly black one.
🔮What does your OC think is their best trait. What is actually their best trait? What about their flaws? Are they one to admit these flaws or do they like to pretend they’re perfect?
This is actually a bit hard to answer...
Ran herself thinks that her best trait is that she’s not the least bit judgmental, which is definitely true and of high value and plays a high part in why she’s so helpful.
Many would probably argue that Ran’s endless generosity is her best trait but I don’t really feel that way, because ultimately there’s two sides to her generosity. She’s incredibly helpful, yes, which is not a bad thing but in Ran’s case it’s not in it’s entirety a good thing either. Ran is insanely self-sacrificial. Her kindness towards others can lead to her disregarding her own to a very, very unhealthy degree.
Takayuki Hojo
🏀 Does your OC have any skills that people wouldn’t expect them to have? Do they have a hobby or pass time that others would consider strange or weird? How did they learn this particular skill or pick up this hobby?
I headcanon there’s a few traditions within both the Hojo but also the Kuga family, which our two Hojo-siblings are excepted to learn (one of them would be martial arts, but also learning Chinese). One of them is playing the Guqin that’s been in the Hojo-Family for several generations. So yeah, Takayuki can play an instrument and it’s a pretty elegant as well. He’s not bad at it either. It’s not something many would expect giving his brutish, hot-headed personality.
🌙 What are some of your OC’s favourites? Favourite food, colour, season, stuff like that! Give some general simple facts that tend to get overlooked!
Takayuki’s favorite food is Kung Pao Chicken. Generally speaking, chicken is the type of meat he prefers most. His favorite color his red and his favorite season is summer. His favorite song is “TNT” by ACDC. His favorite teas to drink are Jasmine tea and Cranberry & Blood Orange Tea. His favorite thing to drink overall is Cola. Putting martial arts aside, the sort he enjoys watching the most on TV is basketball. He’ll say his favorite animals are dragons, however if you want to know his favorite animal that’s not a myth: Red Pandas. He prefers loose clothes largely over tight clothing.
🔮What does your OC think is their best trait. What is actually their best trait? What about their flaws? Are they one to admit these flaws or do they like to pretend they’re perfect?
Takayuki likes to think that his best trait is his bravery, failing to notice that his “bravery” can at times also be acting much too quickly and creating more problems than solutions. His actual best trait is his loyalty.
A major flaw of his is definitely his tendency to judge situations or people way too quickly and often interpreting them pretty wrong. He’s not all to self-aware of this though.
