The Night Sky Over Mt Rainier And A Field Of Wildflowers

The subalpine meadows ringing Mount Rainier are moving past peak wildflower bloom, though many later season wildflowers are still going strong. Fireweed (Chamerion angustifolium) is common in the park from low to subalpine elevations. Its tall stems bloom from the bottom and move upwards. On the same stalk you may see flowers already forming seeds, flowers in the middle of blooming, and flowers just starting to form! This strategy allows fireweed to have a long season, maximizing its ability to pollinate and produce seeds. What wildflowers are you observing in the park?
