Ontario's Progressive Conservatives are promising a radical expansion of the GO Transit network if re-elected, but many doubt a line cutting through midtown Toronto will ever materialize. Before the election was called, the PCs announced a so-called GO 2.0 plan, instructing Metrolinx to explore the construction of a freight rail bypass that would help keep commercial rail off routes used by passenger trains that have to use tracks owned by CN Rail and Canadian Pacific Kansas City railway (CPKC).  This week, as part its campaign, the party took GO 2.0 further, announcing a PC government would create a midtown Toronto GO line. That line would run along a route owned by CPKC, according to the company's network map.

The local tram operator in the area around Heidelberg/ Mannheim „RNV“ just announced that
these old Trains will be removed from service by the upcoming months!
So I thought that after about 50 years of service (average would be around 30) they deserved a farewell post 🥲🥲🥹
And me personally, I really appreciated them.
….at least way more than the new ones that will replace them 😒

Here's a neat little shortline operation in Iowa, the Iowa Traction Railway. They operate entirely electrically on over 100 year old electric locomotives. Incase anyone who isn't already big on trains sees this; electric trains have been a thing since before diesel or gas trains were big and the US used to have 91% of all the electric rail in the world! (though, that only made up 1% of the network). This line used to be an interurban passenger operation, but pivoted to freight and survived even with electric operations.
Anyway, I spent a day railfanning them with my dad back in March of last year. In this first photo we see the crew of ITAR 50 (Blt. 1920) looking back on a cut of cars on Black and White film.

Here is 50 pulling out an old Southern Pacific boxcar from the interchange for a customer.

They spot it at the customer, drop it off, and pull out. Clean and simple.

On one end of the line, now only used for storage, a semaphore is seen permanently in the yellow, "approach", position. This signal has been out of use for many a moon, but still stands as a testament to how busy the line once was, not just for freight, but for passenger.
All photos by me, shot on film, have a nice day everyone :)

Did you know: The world's oldest continuously operating railway is in England, built in 1758. Now, it's a heritage railway run by volunteers.

In 1802, humanity created the perfect form of transport.
Every invention since then has simply been a worse or less efficient version of the train.

It’s not often I have vivid dreams. This is one of them. I dreamt I met an old friend in the LRT. Seated across us was another old friend but he has passed away. We spoke of casual things, nothing important. In the next dream I met another old friend. We hardly meet these days but the conversation centred around is he taking the plane or the train, he said the train of course.
It seems rail figured a lot in these dreams. I love the trains. One of my dreams when studying in UK and travelling was for Malaysia to have our own, and now we have. We have the monorail, LRT, MRT, KTM Komuter, ETS, ERL and soon ECRL. I try to use them extensively.
Monorail mainly covers KL’s CBD. LRT and MRT take us from central KL to the suburbs and various cities in Klang Valley and Selangor. KTM Komuter is the inter city connection for Klang Valley. ETS links towns and cities in the Peninsula. ERL is the airport link, while ECRL connects KL to the East Coast towns and cities.
Now time to get up and do my thing.
