Rahul Roy confesses he was paid Rs 30,000 for Aashiqui; reveals he signed 47 films within 11 days after the release of the Mahesh Bhatt directorial

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Rahul Roy recalled how he bagged his debut project, Aashiqui.

Rahul Roy, who made his Bollywood debut with the 1990 film Aashiqui, recently recalled how he landed the role in the film. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Roy said that his mother, who was a writer, had asked Mahesh Bhatt to cast him in the film.

Roy said that he met Bhatt for the first time at his office in Juhu. "I didn't know anyone from the film industry," Roy said. "Within 4 to 6 minutes of our first meeting, he told me I would be doing the film."

He recalled, “After Aashiqui's release, Mahesh and Mukesh accompanied me to Metro Cinema. Outside, people cheered for me. I didn't have bodyguards then. Inside the theater, people threw coins when my character was introduced with the song ‘Saanson Ki Jarurat Hai Jaise.’ I called Mr Mahesh and expressed my gratitude.”

Roy said that after the release of Aashiqui, he was flooded with offers from filmmakers. He said that he signed 47 films within 11 days. Roy also revealed that his paycheck for Aashiqui was Rs 30,000.

For the unversed, Aashiqui was a landmark film in Indian cinema. It was a rare film to successfully blend the genres of romance and music, and it helped launch the careers of Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal.

Speaking of Roy, his brain stroke in 2020 was a major setback for him. But he is currently recovering and back to work.

Salman Khan helped him when he suffered brain stroke, says Rahul Roy

54-year-old Rahul Roy, the hero of yesteryear’s popular musical romantic film ‘Aashiqui’, has revealed that ‘Dabangg hero’ Salman Khan helped him when he suffered from cerebral palsy two years ago.

There were reports that Rahul Roy suffered from cerebral palsy due to extreme cold and difficulty breathing at the high altitude of Kargil.

Rahul Roy was initially brought to Srinagar in Occupied Kashmir, from where he was taken by ambulance to a private hospital in Mumbai, Maharashtra, after a high-altitude effort from Kargil.

Rahul Roy suffered a severe stroke and suffered a blood clot in a part of his brain, due to which he became unconscious.

Rahul Roy was under treatment in the hospital from November 30, 2020 to January 6, 2021 and incurred lakhs of rupees for his treatment. READ MORE
