explaining characters in hetalia badly: family member archtype edition
an incomplete list for funsies
just imagine they're all at a big family reunion lol
Germany: The closeted cousin who still hasn't figured it out.
Prussia: The cool older cousin who's jacked up on the remnants of the energy drinks he chugged during finals week trying to study for his med school exams. Probably specialized in kids medicine, but he's too jittery to confirm.
Italy V: The cousin who's a cousin because someone married someone a couple months ago and has no idea about all the ettiquette rules ye and what not to discuss in front of Great Aunt Sarah.
China: Great Aunt Sarah
Italy R: The cousin who's just hit his highschool years, and has decided MHA and Valorant is his whole personality.
England: The one manning the grill.
France: The one actually manning the grill.
America: The guy who's young enough to be your older brother but old enough that he's a dad. Don't worry, he's cool- he won't make you babysit, but he's gonna show up with those kids in biker jackets and they'll do a fun dance to entertain everyone halfway through dinner.
Russia: The uncle that apparently is a war vet. Definitely saw things he shouldn't have seen and you don't leave your kids with him. Tells the wildest stories over dinner though.
Canada: The cousin who you forget exists because he's actually normal. Actuality has probably spiked something.
Japan: The one hiding in a room playing video games. He might share if you ask nicely.
Lithuania: Someone's spouse. Not sure whose, but he made a nice caserole.
Sweden: That one distant relative who you almost forgot to invite.
Finland: The guy who showed up and you're not sure where he came from, but he's kinda fun so no one questions it.
Norway: The one who was forced to tag along with the rest of the family.
Iceland: The one who pretends he doesn't want to be there but he'd show up even if he wasn't invited because the food is kinda good.
Denmark: The one bringing the alcohol and manning the bar you didn't kow you had.
Latvia: The one trying to sneak underage drinks.
Estonia: The one pretending to be a normal person with his "honor student" and "full ride scholarship next year" but is secretly helping Latvia sneak a drink.
Spain: The uncle who's been married ten times.
Switzerland: The one who only showed up because he was begged to. Either ends up in the corner watching the game or in the middle of the table retelling some grand tale.
Liechtenstein: The one bringing all the delicious deserts and a fruit tray and forced Switzerland to socialize.
Austria: The one insisting on putting on the radio the moment the "go ahead" for the food is said. Might have even called up everyone to remind them to bring their instruments.
Hungary: The one who gets everyone dancing the moment Austria whips out the fiddle tunes.
Seychelles: The one who innocently suggested a board game after the dance-off winds down.
Hong Kong: The cousin who sticks around long enough to say hello to the aunts and uncles and grandparents and get some food before hiding in the room with Japan.
Belarus: The cousin who's a movie-cutter highschool "popular girl" and spends the whole time on her phone texting her boyfriend.
Ukraine: The aunt that break up the board game fights and bans it from future events.
Luxenberg: You don't know what he does for a living, but he brings cool stuff for everyone.
Netherlands: The globetrotting uncle who you're pretty sure knows everyone and everything.
Belgium: The cool aunt who's single and living life.
Phillipines and Thailand: The fresh-out-of-collegers cousin who keeps taking photos of everything.
Malaysia: The fresh-out-of-colleger cousin also taking photos but only aesthetic ones.
Taiwan: The aunt that starts making smoothies unprompted.
Monaco: The cousin who brings a book to read in the corenr.
Cameron: The uncle you don't want to get into an argument about sports with. Switzerland does not head this warning.
Greece: The uncle who drove all day and night to get here with a full car, and is now knocked out on the couch.
Turkey: The funny wine grandpa.
Cyprus: The college dropout who now works at a seven-eleven.
Egypt: The cousin who's studying history and is pretty average except you have photographic evidence that he sat next to a pond and talked to ducks for half an hour and was very serious about it.

Regarding the Eurovision I have seen a few posts where people are confused why Isreal is even participating.
Since 1956 the Grand Prix de la Chanson de L'Eurovision is held by the EBU.
The EBU has not really something to do with Europe as a Continent and especially not as a political Union.
It is a union of broadcasting stations. In this case Radio.
And 68 Nations from Europe, Asia and Northern Africa are part of it.
So everyone being part of the EBU is allowed to participate.
Some states dropped out because of costs and lack of interest like Andorra.
Others dropped out of different reasons.
But mostly financial.
From all European Countries only Liechtenstein and the Vatican never participated.
Others like the Färöer Islands want to But aren't part of the EBU.
From the African Countries only Marokko participated once in 1980 but due to poor placing and as a protest of Israel participating they dropped out.
Since 2016 Australia is an honorary participant because they love it so much.
It is very important to know that it's not the State that participates. It's the radio/TV station that is part of the EBU.
So. Israel is part of the EBU and participates since 1973.
It has been protested that it's part of the Esc but the Esc is in itself an apolitical event.
There have been instances where it was used for protest or influence over the contest was politically motivated.
Like the Spanish decision to change the singer and language in 1968 to not have a Catalan singer singing in Catala. It is still rumored that their win was initiated by Franco that year.
Why Israel but not Russia and Belarus?
Voices have been loud again to ban Israel from the Esc like it happened in 2022 with Russia and Belarus (for the first time in the history of the EBU) due to the attack on Ukraine.
The argument is simple: I Russia and Belarus there is no way to differentiate between the state and the media (who has to be a member of the EBU)
The argument does not work for the case of Israel.
The country has free media which can also be critical towards its government.
And Israel had its own problems with participants showing the Palestinian flag during their performance. 2000
2009 and 2020 their song was also in Arabic Hebrew and English.
Tldr: why is Isreal in Eurovision? They can broadcast radio throughout Europe north Africa and Asia.
Not the State participates but the radio station.
Why aren't they banned? Not a dictatorship like Russia.

Meet Ms. Andorra, my hetalia oc.
Meritxell Júlia Roca Serra
My Andorra’s name is Meritxell Júlia Roca Serra, almost no one calls her Meritxell and everybody calls her Júlia.
Listen, almost all of the recognized micronations we’ve seen are shown to be rich, but responsible with money, we need one who’s not. (Micronations: Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Malta)
She appears energetic and loud, but is mostly trying to compensate for her lonely childhood.
But before she was more quiet, and shy. You could not get a word out of this girl before World War Two, and her personality was more like Liechtenstein’s. Even to this day, when not around other people, or around she trust’s, she’s a lot more quiet.
She’s close with everybody, but nobody at the same time. And she was super lonely growing up, so she tries to compensate.
She’s generally a lot more done with life than the rest of micronations, being neighbors with Spain and France will do that to you.
Definitely a party girl, and the one who’s going to give you bad advice.
Huge smoker, if she wasn’t a nation her lungs would be charcoal.
Despite this, she’s very religious.
Andorra was founded as part of the Spanish March, a military buffer zone between Muslim Spain and The Kingdom of Franks. The military zone was primarily meant to keep Muslims out of France.
Because of this she’s a very experienced fighter, even to this day she has a rifle in her house.
She originally had lots of other siblings, but they all eventually got annexed by Spain or France, so it doesn’t really matter.
She's committed a long list of crimes, most of them include smuggling.
She’s close with both France, Spain and Portugal, but she’s very introverted and shy, not talking to any other nation except the two of them until after World War II
Rich, rich asf, and spends however she likes. Being responsible with money, I never heard of it.
But before she was relatively poor and was more of an agriculture girl.
The recognized microstate gang's her go to and they all hang out whenever they can.
Switzerland doesn’t like her, he thinks she’s a bad influence on Lichtenstein, Austria doesn’t like her for the same reason.
Has a catalan sheepdog named Pol.
South Italy also doesn’t like her, but it’s more of a personality clash.
Big fan of radio, and that’s how she broke out of her shell.
Also is great at skiing, and ice skating.
As a kid she was an avid reader, she loves her country but Andorra is tiny and she never really get to experience the world until now. Reading was the only way to deal with that
Retail therapy is her therapy
Very adventurous today.
Experienced hiker.
Family is France and Spain, and these days her relationship with them is improving.
My first oc post I'm really proud of. This is the start of a very long hetalia blog

Paul Merton: ‘I stayed in one of the world’s worst hotels in China’
The comedian recalls terrible hotels in China, mishaps with malaria tablets and why he’s happiest holidaying in the UK
Interview by Nick McGrath
From The Sunday Times, 22nd February 2023
Paul Merton, 65, first performed at the Comedy Store in 1982 and since 1990 has been a fixture on the BBC’s Have I Got News for You, which returns this spring for its 65th series. He lives in London with his third wife, Suki Webster, his co-star on Channel 5’s Motorhoming with Merton & Webster
My first holiday of any substance was to a holiday camp in Hemsby, on the edge of the Norfolk Broads. I was eight years old and I loved it. I loved the space to run around and the people drinking beer and watching the shows in the ballroom. It felt idyllic.
I visited Ireland a couple of years later and got a lot of attention from my mum’s relatives, which was great for my performer’s ego. We saw the Ring of Kerry and I was charmed by the locals’ love of words and storytelling.
I spent most of the Eighties living in a bedsit earning very little money, so the first time I travelled further afield was in 1987, when I went all the way to Australia, with a heavy cold, to visit my girlfriend at the time.
The cheapest route was London to Sydney, via Athens and Singapore. In Athens, the complimentary coach from the hotel to the airport was full of boy scouts from Liechtenstein, who were on their way to Sydney for an international scouting jamboree. Being stared at by three-dozen hostile Liechtensteiner boy scouts is an experience I won’t forget.
After a two-day delay in Singapore, I eventually got to Sydney on Christmas Day with horrible jet lag and an even heavier cold, sat down to Christmas lunch in 35C heat, then fell asleep for 16 hours. It felt like I’d been kicked in the head by a horse.
I’d only been earning £30 a gig, sometimes £10 even, so holidays were rare. But as my career took off, I travelled more — including to Kenya in 1990, where I had a terrible experience with anti-malarial drugs. Back then you had to take a weekly and daily pill and I had a severe reaction to the weekly pill, but it took a while to work out what the problem was.
Each Friday, first in Kenya and then back home in London, I’d take this pill then start to hallucinate. I got these paranoid thoughts, where I believed I was being followed by the Freemasons and could predict the next song on the radio. Which I couldn’t.
I then went to places like St Lucia, but felt uncomfortable driving around in a rented Land Rover that probably represented what some people there might earn in half a lifetime. I felt the same visiting Cape Town.
I was lucky enough to film a couple of travel documentary series in India and China — and had totally contrasting experiences. The poverty was dramatic in India, but the people were polite and proud and when I returned to film in Mumbai, Delhi and Calcutta, they found our earnestly awful attempts at Bollywood improv hilarious and gave us multiple standing ovations.
I wouldn’t return on holiday to China, as the state interference leaves a bit of a nasty taste, as does the spitting. You literally pull up at some traffic lights and a woman in a very nice car will open her window and spit on the road. Everybody does it. Maybe a popular Chinese film star was a passionate spitter. Or perhaps Chairman Mao decreed it a healthy habit. Filming while surrounded on all sides by armed soldiers wasn’t massively relaxing either.
I also stayed in one of the world’s worst hotels in China. The foyer had a tarpaulin covered in some unusually dark stains and the room had bits of wall missing and stank of urine. I moved to a nearby hotel which was equally basic but clean, at least, although the TV was puzzling. It had a single channel showing a military man laden with medals berating a group of people for hours on end while they looked shamefaced.
I’d love to visit New Zealand as everyone raves about it. Another place I definitely won’t go back to is Tahiti, which everyone imagines is a South Sea paradise, but for me, it wasn’t. The hotel I stayed in was completely overrun by cats.
These days I prefer British holidays, as airports in the 21st century leave you with a low level of anxiety. My wife and I now love travelling round Britain in our motorhome, which is basically a hotel room on wheels. If we all could drop the idea that we have to go on holiday somewhere that has guaranteed sun, holidaying in this country has a lot going for it.
Paul and Suki will be speaking at the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show at the NEC Birmingham, which runs from February 21 to 26 (ccmshow.co.uk)

I was out and about when the match started and so i tuned the radio into a sports show that was set to cover the match when the comms started to discuss how unfair were qualification stages previous to the world cup because they basically paired up one big team with several minor teams (for example: spain, liechtenstein, san marino and cyprus) thus the one big team is pretty much 99% guaranteed they'll qualify while the rest were merely vehicles for that to happen and then concluded by saying *maybe* such groups should be decided by performance coefficient and/or how high they are at fifa rankings and hmmmmmmmm....... thoughts are being thought 🤔
#they were like 'which is why england. france. spain. germany. portugal and sometimes italy always qualify' and HMMMMM#mundial22

CE marketing for electrical and electronic equipment (low voltage directive).
What is CE marketing?
CE Certification in Chad it is an indicator that a product complies with the essential requirements of any applicable European Union (EU) laws or regulations. The CE marking is a requirement for conformance for items sold inside the European Economic Area (EEA), which includes all EU member states as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. The CE mark indicates that a product complies with the essential health, safety, and environmental protection criteria specified in any applicable EU directives or laws. It is neither a quality mark nor an endorsement from the EU. Instead, it indicates that the importer or producer is now responsible for ensuring that the product complies with all relevant EU legislation.CE marking is required for many different product categories, including toys, building supplies, radio equipment, medical devices, toys, machinery, electrical and electronic equipment, and more. Specific guidelines or directives pertaining to every product category may outline the requirements for obtaining and use the CE mark.Products that don't adhere to CE marking requirements run the risk of being withdrawn from sale, fined, and having the good name of their maker tarnished. Therefore, producers and importers must ensure that their products meet all applicable requirements and complete the necessary conformity assessment procedures before applying the CE marking and releasing the product onto the market.
How business will get benefits by CE Certification?
Market Access: Companies certified as CEs are able to access markets inside the European Economic Area (EEA), which includes all EU members as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. This expands the pool of potential customers and increases growth and sales chances.
Legal Compliance: A product's CE certification attests to its compliance with the essential requirements for safety, health, and environmental protection set forth in any applicable EU directives or laws. This helps businesses avoid penalties, product recalls, and other consequences of breaking the law.
