Regarding the expectation of perfection, yeah, I don't think the team expected it. The one who could be arguably said to have put the most "pressure" on Ruby is Blake as we saw in V8, but having faith in someone isn't the same as demanding perfection. & Blake showed she was fine stepping up and trying to help or support Ruby when she needed it.
The others applied even less pressure, at least knowingly, but none of them are aware of how Ruby had internalized Ozpin's lesson (& from what I know of Coco Second Semester does not make his lessons better)
But Ruby definitely took a lot of these things to heart in a way likely never intended. & more to the point that likely wouldn't be nearly as bad if not for the trauma conga-line the last volumes have been.
For instance in V8 Ruby does seem briefly hurt by Yang noting that following her lead hasn't worked out, but Yang's language is still rather casual, this isn't her trying to deliver some cutting barb to wound Ruby's pride. & given their reunion in V8 it didn't have a lasting impact... Up until V9 landed because with everything that went wrong, suddenly those words pack a lot more sting.
In regards to Yang & Ruby in particular, one thing I find interesting is that in early volumes, even after Ozpin's leader talk Ruby was more comfortable showing uncertainty, discomfort, fragility and the like.
Especially around Yang. She was sulking in V2 about Blake not coming to the dance and feeling overtly helpless, she was fine with being uncertain about her decision to reveal the WF's location to Ozpin & co, also in V2.
But more integrally, in Volume 3, after everything had gone to hell what is the first thing Ruby did once she could move under her own power?
Was it go to her dad for comfort? Seek Qrow for advice? nope, those two came to her, with Tai mostly being used for an intel update and Qrow being prodded for info, and only seeing a flash of vulnerability.
The person Ruby went to was Yang, Yang who she was surprised to find wasn't in a good head-space, and who when Ruby asked what to do couldn't answer her, seemingly leaving Ruby unsure of what to do. In essence, there have been periods where Ruby also expected others to be more sturdy than they could otherwise be expected to be. This isn't a jab, just an observation.
More integrally however, in V4 we see Ruby really hit hard on the repressing.
Oh she did it before, the fact she's modelled her entire persona after her missing mother and was raised by a girl two years her senior should already make it clear she's gonna have some issues. But it becomes a lot more overt with her being all smiles around JNPR but sad when unseen until she's hitting a breaking point. One that is... Sort of countered though of questionable help by being told she's inspiring.
The time we really see it break in in Volume 5 when Yang & Ruby reunited, she cries, she fumbles her words, she gets a damn hug.
But then, the next day, she sees that Yang is not nearly as recovered as she's trying to act. When Yang is upset & removes herself from the situation to calm down and mourn silently, its Weiss who has to help her out of it, because Ruby has no idea what to do.
That's not just her sister in there, its the girl who raised her, & this stuff is not Ruby's forte, but more integrally, Yang is the one who has always been 'all right', the one who Ruby could turn to whenever she needed and who she never had to worry about in combat.
But she's not OK the one person Ruby could always rely on is more fragile than Ruby ever realized, and so clearly, Ruby can't go to Yang with her problems either.
& thus closes her final person to really, properly, well and truly reach out to.
& the thing is Yang would have no idea this is happening!
She didn't hear Ozpin's speech, or Ruby re-phrasing it. She wasn't present when Ruby was really building her walls in V4, and any that existed before that will have been interwoven with Yang's own issues and thus be something she deemed as normal the same way Ruby deemed Yang's self sacrificing penchant as normal.
Put simply, Yang isn't aware that Ruby's mental image of her has shifted and so is not aware that Ruby no longer sees her as someone viable to reach out to.
None of which is helped by the fact Yang canonically admires Ruby and so is prone to see the best, strongest, most idealized side of her, and so like Ruby would need to be told Ruby needs help before keying into it.
Both these girls are very traumatized and damaged and they care about each other so god damn much, but also just cannot wholly see one another.
Its agony, I love it.

option 1: tai’s guarding the crown of choice.
pros:
a legitimately important task that recontextualizes his ongoing decision to remain on patch as a personal sacrifice he makes for the greater good.
ozpin would pick the guy named for the god of light to be the gatekeeper of choice, huh.
if any parent in this story is meant to die, it’s him, and narratively this is the most intuitive way to do it.
cons:
realistically, what can tai do to prevent salem / cinder / summer from accessing the vault if they find it? if he’s the gatekeeper, staying on patch alone after everyone else evacuates achieves nothing except, ah, signaling to the enemy that the real vault is under signal academy. bad plan.
it means oz is breaking his promise to be honest and forthcoming, undermining his character growth for the sake of ‘surprising’ the audience with the most obvious answer.
means qrow has either been kept in the dark (see prev point) or he’s also deliberately hiding this information from his nieces after they asked him outright if he knew where tai is; this is so far afield for his character as to border on character assassination, and likewise undermines his positive growth since v7.
honestly makes both yang and ruby seem kind of stupid. they know the crown is hidden somewhere near beacon, that ozpin did something to protect it differently from the others, and that their father hasn’t left patch. ruby was sharp enough to guess that long memory might be a relic hidden in plain sight; yang is just as smart, and she knows tai had “some things” to look after on patch. are we expected to believe that “hey, is dad guarding the relic?” somehow hasn’t occurred to either of them?
tai harbors a whole lot of resentment toward ozpin, and based on qrow kicking him out of ruby’s bedroom to drip-feed her hints on where to go next, he seems to have been on the outer perimeter of the inner circle. why would oz entrust him with the relic’s safety?
glynda—ozpin’s scrupulously loyal second-in-command whose emblem is a crown and whose semblance puts her on par with a maiden—is a far more narratively plausible vault-guardian than tai, and the “sun dragon” makes a damn good red herring.
if he’s guarding the vault, he dies. sorry. but the point of putting the father of 2/4 protagonists in between the two main villains and the thing they want most (choice) is so they can kill him to get it, increasing tension and raising the emotional stakes of negotiating peace. to be clear, rwby is willing to Go There, but i think it’s an unsatisfactory way to close out the rose xiao long family arc.
option 2: survivors trapped under mountain glenn, and tai is taking point.
pros:
a genuinely important, worthwhile thing for him to be doing—even more so than guarding the crown. likely sets up a resolution for him in the vein of “you can be a good huntsman or a good father, and tai picked being a huntsman,” which is an elegant way to balance his contradictions.
gives him meaningful stuff to do in v10; for example, one stealthy huntsman with a bullhead could slip in and out of mountain glenn to get a few dozen people out at a time, and/or run supplies and messages between the kingdoms.
we get to see zwei back in action around mountain glenn :)
introduces a natural segue from playing defense in vacuo to mounting a counteroffensive against beacon as tai’s work clarifies the situation in vale.
easily the most 'heroic' direction for him without contorting the story to arbitrarily lionize tai: he’s a scout preparing the stage for the heroes to take the fight to salem, making him the good counterpart to watts.
cons:
makes no sense to keep it a secret. the emotional beats of B4 can still happen if the girls know this is what tai’s doing: instead of “do you… wonder why he’s not here? i know qrow said he’s on assignment, but what’s more important than here?” yang says “do you… wish he were here? with us? i know qrow said he’s looking for survivors, but how many of them can there really be by now? we need all the help we can get,” and ruby says “maybe we don’t have the full picture” as in maybe dad knows something we don’t and that’s why he hasn’t given up yet. the emotion is the same, and the big "they’re hiding in mountain glenn" reveal is hinted without spoiling.
leaves hanging the narrative thread of what tai has been doing since the fall of beacon, because the “some things” he was dealing with in v4 obviously wasn’t this.
option 3: tai is dead.
pros:
explains the apparent secrecy; qrow knows tai was away “on assignment” (i.e., had taken a huntsman contract that brought him out of the kingdom) at the time salem attacked vale, so he is missing but not yet presumed dead.
might reopen the mystery box of summer’s last mission through the real-deal “left on a mission and never came back” echo.
cons:
raven would know.
it’s a cheap, narratively unsatisfying twist that fails to deliver on the bread crumbs set up in v2-3 (tai starts going on missions again) and v4 (“some things”), and also undermines any serious emotional resolution with regard to yang and ruby’s complex relationships with tai.
option 4: summer’s working with salem, and tai is trying to convince her to come back.
pros:
“some things” being his presumed-dead wife who left him to join the enemy and with whom tai is now having an affair or otherwise hoping to coax back to the heroic side through the power of love whilst also keeping his mouth shut about her being a) still alive and b) a traitor is OBJECTIVELY the funniest answer.
brings forward and interrogates the way tai’s romantic grief informs the choices he makes as a parent: from hiding raven and then refusing to talk about her with yang, to shutting down when he lost summer and letting his five-year-old pick up the pieces, to discovering and then keeping summer’s secrets for the sake of some faint hope that she might finally come back to him.
cogent with the Dead (Absent) Mother / Neglectful Father / Evil Stepmother fairytale paradigm rwby deconstructs with raven, tai, and summer; the father chooses the stepmother over his children.
raises the emotional stakes of the war for summer through direct confrontation with the life she left behind, creating narrative opportunities to develop her character (is she still in love with tai? how does she feel about being his first priority, over their children? does she resent that he has her on this pedestal even now?) and apply pressure to her relationships with salem and cinder (do they know? is summer keeping her communication with him a secret, too? or is he an “asset” she’s using for salem’s benefit?).
consequently, raises the momentum of the narrative toward negotiation with salem; tai still has the coalition’s trust, however strained his personal relationships may be. summer is the obvious ambassador for salem’s side of the war, but she’s also the traitor who needs someone to vouch for her good intentions.
the secrecy needs no explanation: just as summer’s last mission was a summer secret, tai’s "assignment" is a taiyang secret and the girls know everything that oz and qrow do, because all of them have been left in the dark. raven might know, and she has the means to find if she doesn’t, but tai’s whereabouts are entangled with what raven knows about summer, so she can’t explain where tai is or why until she reveals her deep dark secrets about what happened between her and summer that night.
foreshadowing is solid: tai starts to go on "missions" again in v2, after the inner circle becomes aware that salem has infiltrated beacon and just before the breach downtown. when ruby visits summer’s grave in v3, she says "[dad] told me he’s going to be on some mission soon! i think he misses adventuring with you." he’s got to "look after some things" (but he isn’t talking about yang, because he stays home after she leaves). and then with B4 we have ruby echoing what the blacksmith taught her about summer in relation to tai, "maybe we don’t have the full picture?"
juicy
cons:
???
dependent on the unconfirmed theory that summer is working for salem as herself, not some unrecognizable enslaved monster, but i am as confident in that as i was about salem going to vale next and we all know how that turned out :)
taking their mom was not enough salem had to go for the full set APPARENTLY
option 5: secret fifth thing
pros:
???
cons:
???

im not sure if this is an okay request but family headcanons with rwby? like what kind of mother they are and how they treat their children and partner :)
Of course this is okay, it's really cute! I know I get a lot of NSFW requests, but wholesome ones are always welcome and highly appreciated!
----------
Team RWBY as Moms
Ruby Rose
Ruby is so sweet as a mom, she absolutely adores her family. No matter how many kids you have or their gender, she is gonna accept them with open arms
Being one of the top Huntresses means she is often out of the house in the mornings. But she always makes sure to come back right on time and call her familly if otherwise
Loves showing off Cresent Rose to the kids, and when they get old enough she lets them hold and try it out. If they want to be hunters/huntresses she is the first person to help them figure out a weapon
Does races with her kids, but always cheats and uses her semblance
Is decent at cooking, but really specializes in baking. Her cookies are to DIE for, your kids always try to sneak them at night (secretly you do too, don't tell Ruby)
Auntie Yang and her partner are always coming over, it's great! Everyone gets to catch up and the kids get to play, it's always a great time
Ruby always talks about how awesome Grandpa Qrow is, so clearly your kids look up to him. You often have to debunk a lot of the outlandish statements but it's cute nonetheless. Whenever he comes by it's always a big deal
Grandpa Tai tries so hard to be cool, it's often a joke in your household. He once tried to teach the kids to skateboard and fell flat on his face, giving himself a nosebleed
It's so sweet though! The kids always look forward to seeing him for a good laugh (plus he gives great hugs)
Ruby loves to barrage you guys with kisses
Weiss Schnee
Weiss never had a good childhood, fault being on both her parents. When she and her partner decided to have children, she swore to never make the same mistakes her parents did. She refuses to continue the cycle of abuse
Winter is always welcome to your house and always makes it to family events. She's still a bit cold but actually smiles when around you guys. Willow stays away a bit since she's still dealing with stuff, but makes an effort to occasionally visit. Jacques banned from even seeing any of you, and if he ever tries Weiss will threaten him with a restraining order
She always makes sure to go to all her kids events, no matter how disinterested she may be in the type of event. The excited look on their faces make it all worth it. Oh, and she's totally the mom to wave at her kids while they perform on stage
Can sometimes be strict when it comes to rules she has instated. No staying up too late, no staying out past curfew, stuff like that. She wants her kids safe!
Anytime she snaps at her kids or partner in frustration she immedietely stops and apologizes
Her dad is quite adamant about your kids having the Schnee Glyth semblance, but Weiss isn't worried about it. No matter what they have she isn't gonna love them any less
Has the BEST Birthday parties on the block, every kid wants to come! Tables lined with delicious food, tons of bounce houses, fun games, all the digs! Weiss also loves to use her summons to entertain the kids (They especially love the giant knight)
When the kids are at sleepovers and leave you two alone, you guys like to have mini date nights where you sip wine and talk. Weiss loves hearing about your day
Once the kids are put to bed she basically collapses on the couch with you and just lays there for a while in your arms
Blake Belladonna
Probably the most motherly of all of them. She had a great relationship with her parents and keeps a lot of her family traditions
Grandpa Ghira and Grandma Kali are very present. Ever since their grandkids were babies they were always very involved. Kali was most obvious about it, and likes to spoil her grandkids whenever possible. Ghira tries to be more aloof and calm about it, but you and Blake once caught him conked out on the couch with your sleeping kids in his arms
Very gentle with her kids and soft spoken. But when she gets angry you can hear the sharpness in her voice (that instantly shuts her family up)
If your kids runs away from you guys in public, Blake uses her weapon to yoink them and reel them back in
Uses her clones when they play games, she always wins at tag
Ever since they were babies, Blake likes to read books to her kids at bedtime. She reads a mixture of children's books and classic literature. It doesn't really matter what she reads, the soft sound of voice is the perfect lullaby
Teaches her children about Faunus issues and history very early on in life. It's important for them to know their history and culture
Always is ready with her phone to take photos and videos. She wants to capture all key moments your family experiences! Once a year she likes to have the family sit down and go through the collection
Sun likes to come by randomly and surprise you guys. Sometimes you'll be watching TV and hear a knock at your window. Blake reprimands him lightly, but it always ends up being a good time
Yang Xiao Long
Yang is the Cool Mom™️
She lets her kids dye their hair, get piercings, and tattoos. Of course the tattoos only when they get to an appropriate age, but it's not discouraged
Whenever the kids want piggyback rides she is happy to provide. If you have more than one kid she tries to carry them all at once
All the kids in the area adore her and loves to call her Auntie Yang
Definitely adores rough housing and play wrestling. She loves to teach simple moves and have contests (whenever she lets them win she gets really dramatic)
If they want to become hunters/huntresses, Yang is HAPPY to spar and train them! And if you want to join it makes a great family bonding activity
Does her kids' hair every day. Even if it's just a quick brush she loves to make sure they look their best
You own a grill that she loves to use. She likes to barbecue on weekends! Most of the time is fine it's just uh... she likes thing on the burnt side. Often you'll have to specifically tell her to not overcook everyone's meal
Loves to flirt and kiss you in front of the kids. Their cries of anguish and cringe is like music to her ears
Auntie Ruby and her partner are frequent guests in your house, they visit all the time. Whether it's to go to dinner or mini golf or just chill inside. It's also great for you all to catch up and the kids to hang out
Yang is the Cool Mom, Ruby is the Cool Aunt, and Qrow is the Cool Grandpa! Everytime Qrow comes to visit your kids practically tackle him. He always tells the best stories and sneaks your kids snacks and money
Tai tries to be the Cool Grandpa but kinda fails. He's sprained his ankle many a times trying to impress. Although they laugh, your kids absolutely adore when he comes around
There is no mention of Raven in the house. Yang refuses to bring that drama into her family life, she hasn't even approached her in general. But Yang doesn't care, she has everything she needs

So here's a minor Rosebird Parents-related thought I've been mulling over for a bit that I've also been asked about a couple time:
Even outside of the general 'Unreliable Narrator' nature of himself and Tai that I have already discussed, Qrow not telling Ruby (or Yang) about Raven being her dad/other-mom makes a lot more sense then you might think.
Simply because it is actually entirely possible that Qrow wouldn't actually KNOW that Raven is Ruby's other mom. At least, he wouldn't know for sure.
Qrow would have his suspicions certainly. He could even be PRETTY SURE that Ruby is actually Raven's and Summer's kid. But if Summer was being tight-lipped on the matter, there really wouldn't be anything Qrow could do to confirm it.
And after Summer's disappearance, there's only two people left who could confirm Ruby's true parentage to Qrow, and neither of them would be easily pressed for information.
I've got a lengthy theory-post on Qrow's and Tai's relationship in the works (the REAL foil to bumbleby on Team STRQ XD) that goes into detail on this, but given what we've seen of them together I imagine that Qrow has basically been 'walking on eggshells' around Tai ever since Summer's 'death'. Out of fear of destroying his relationship with the one teammate he has left (and also because he's still pining for Tai, but more on that in a later post). So Qrow would never just up and ask Tai "hey, so is Ruby ACTUALLY your kid?"
And of course, Raven being ENTIRELY unforthcoming with information would likewise absolutely be in-character for her.
So with all that said, even putting aside the general tendency of adults in RWBY to hide VERY IMPORTANT information from their children/students/charges, I think it actually is entirely in-character for Qrow to have not mentioned this possibility to Ruby. And I would even call it an actually GOOD mentoring/parenting decision on his part.
I mean would it really have been a good thing for Qrow to one day pull a pre-teen Ruby aside and go 'Hey, so I think your parents were lying to you and your dad isn't actually your dad and your real dad is my sister and also your sister's mom who's been gone for your entire life. I mean I don't know for sure, but I've got a pretty good hunch about it.'?
#rwby#rwby rambling#rwby theory#rosebird parents#rosebird parents theory#qrow branwen#Ruby Rose#Summer Rose#Raven Branwen#taiyang xiao long#i might also need to do a post on how qrow is pointedly the closest thing ruby has had to a functional father figure

@kitestarry Thought I'd answer this comment in its own post. :)
Ghira and Kali are very much so stereotypical "Mom and Dad" characters imo, where Kali is kind of nosy and she's comforting and she's given that "no she can hit people with pans too" thing that people give Supermoms since like 2000 so they can say they're strong women without having to do any work, and Ghira is like overprotective and tells Blake she isn't wearing enough clothes and hates Sun because he's a boy who's interested in his daughter. And I don't like the stereotypical "Mom and Dad" characterization in any setting really, but since they're only featured in two seasons and are honestly not even sort of the focus of Blake's 4-5 arc (which is much more about her, Sun, and Ilia,) they're very paper thin characters I feel like. So there isn't much else to them. But on top of that, the RWBY writers do this thing where they'll make the teenage characters do dangerous stuff but do not care to write the "caring" parental figures in their life to actually do anything about it. Like, with Willow you can at least be like "well she's an alcoholic who had an abusive husband" which doesn't mean that her complete lack of presence until V7 and her lack of action in protecting her children is fine, but it makes more sense. And when then sixteen year old Ruby left home to go after Cinder and supposedly like a year later Tai still is completely not around, we could at least say "well, he knows she's with Qrow and he might not have known how serious everything was" which isn't a good excuse, but it's at least something. But, I believe Blake ran away from home five years before the start of the show, which means she was like twelve! And she ran away to be part of a group Ghira thought was dangerous and morally wrong (which is why he left in the first place.) Like, we don't know if Blake had a good place to stay for that whole time, if she ever went hungry, and the show fully tells us she was in a bad and unsafe relationship for part of it. And where were her parents? And then the Fall of Beacon happens after Blake is on TV during the Vytal Festival, and the whole thing just makes them feel like very uncaring bad parents. There's also Ghira's whole peaceful protest 'be nice to your oppressors and they might like you' 'we need to stop faunus violence' thing. Like many Faunus characters, Ghira's a mouthpiece for the severely badly handled fantasy racism plot. It's bad on Blake, but since she has a lot more character and role outside of that, it's easy enough to just clip it out for her for me. But because Ghira has been such a small role, it's a lot harder to dismiss for him. Like if you removed that sort of thing from Ghira's character, all that you'd have left is 'over-protective dad who doesn't care about finding his twelve year old runaway but will comment on her belly shirt when she comes home."
But also, I don't write for them to be honest. Writing for characters oftentimes makes me like them more because it helps me dive into the character concept more than the oftentimes lackluster execution. There are a lot of characters I didn't like that much, but then when I write for them, I find myself really enjoying them. But my sister and I first started writing for RWBY after volume six with a fanfiction that was an AU branch off starting at the end of V5. And the only fanfictions I've written either are branches off of that branch off or are Team STRQ era fics. So... Ghira and Kali aren't really part of things in my fics ever.
So yeah, it's a combination of them being thin stereotypical parents with very little interest to them, their apparent lack of care when their twelve year old ran away, and just never writing for them so they don't get the same treatment of me fleshing them out myself that other characters who are just as thin in canon might get that make me like them more.

Mini Fanfic 1210: Gardening with Mr. Xiao Long (RWBY)
2:41 p.m. The Xiao Long Cabin's Backyard........
'Cling'
Oscar: ('Phew') (Uses his Arm to Wipe the Sweat Off his Forehead While Panting and Holding onto the Stick Part of the Shovel He Placed Next to the Now Slightly Shaded Garden) Okay! I think....That's everything.....for now.....
Tai: (Chuckles Lightly) Hey now, don't get tired on me just yet there, kiddo! I thought you're used to this kind of work.
Oscar: (Turns to his Girlfriend's Father) I am. Heck, I'm all for doing more of it nowadays, but not in this level of heat capacity. It's unbearable!
Tai: That's the Summer Heat for ya. It's so hot that it could make even most strongest willed warriors worn out after a while.
Oscar: Yeah, but did it really have to be here now? It's not even technically Summer yet!
Tai: (Smiles More Sheepishly) True, but it.....practically already start the moment the first day of June came around, so.....
Oscar: ('Sigh') You're not wrong there. The road was already filled with traffic before Ren brought me here.
Tai: (Shrugs) Eh. The roads are always busy in Patch, no matter the season- (Forms a Cheeky Grin) Or Weather the forecast~
'Badum Tssss'
Oscar: (Eyes Widened Before Slowly Turning his Head to Taiyang) Was that pun you made just now?
Tai: Yep! Been a long while since I've made one believe it or not, so I gotta make up for lost times. 'Less I wanna be pass my- (Points and Shows Off his Watch) time! (Chuckles Some More)
Oscar: ('Sigh') You are definitely Yang's father alrght.....
Tai: Hey, if you can stomach through my little firecracker's puns on a daily, you can handle a few of mines as well. (Wraps his Arm Around Oscar's Shoulder) Now, come on, let's head back in and get away from this heatwave before it gets even more un-BEAR-able! (Let's Out a Single Laugh Before Walking Himself and Oscar Back to the House) I still got it.
Oscar: (Oh god. He really is the King of Corny Dad Puns......)
Inside of Xiao Long's Cabin............
Tai: (Pouring a Two Glasses of Cold Lemonade for Both Him and Oscar) Thanks again for helping me take care of the garden out there, Oscar. There's no way I would've gotten everything done alone in that heat. (Hands Oscar his Drink)
Oscar: (Smiles Softly) It's no problem at all, Mr. Xiao Long. As exhausting as today was, I'm glad we got the chance to spend time together today at least. You're a pretty good company to have around. (Takes a Sip of his Drink)
Tai: (Smiles Brightly) Likewise, kiddo! Better be careful now. (Forms a Playful Smirk) We wouldn't want the girls thinking I'm stealing you away from them.
Oscar: ('Scoffs') Please. As if those two would ever get mad at their dad, let alone over me of all people.
Tai: (Takes a Sip of his Lemonade) I dunno. You seem like a pretty lovable guy for people to protect and fight tooth and nail over.
Oscar: That's true. I can't begin to tell you how many legs Nora broken trying to kept me from getting killed in battle......
Tai: (Chuckles Lightly) Is that right? I take it her and Pyrrha playing the mother hens these days?
Oscar: Yep. They can be a bit much at times, but I still love 'em regardless. Jaune and Ren too. They're all are amazing to have around.
Tai: Good! I'm happy life been treating you a whole lot better these days, especially after all the crap you all had to endure.
Oscar: ('Sighs Heavily') You said it. To this day, it still surprises how far I've come to here, with and without Ozpin's help.
Tai: You ever missed having him around?
Oscar: Sometimes. We never see eye-to-eye in a few instances, but it was nice to have him around inside my head until the very end, especially when we're both at the lowest we've been in our lives.
Tai: (Smiles Softly) I'm glad you two got along throughout all of it. That man has been a tortured soul for as long as i knew him, which made sense to me why he doesn't trust people as easily as either of us do these days.
Oscar: ('Sigh') Yeah, that's been a century issue believe it or not. B-But he had gotten better at it overtime! Even more so when everyone stop being angry and gave him one more chance, despite their trust in him weren't the same as it was before. (Sighs Once More) But regardless, I'm just glad he's finally resting in peace now.
Tai (Happily Nodded in Agreement) As he should.
Oscar and Taiyang raise their glasses of lemonade towards one another before taking another sip of their respective drinks.
Tai: ('Sighs Relaxingly') You know, Ruby's been talking about you quite a lot these days.
Oscar: She has?
Tai: Yeah. Way before you two started dating. I mean, she talks a lot about her and your friends as well, but....not exactly in a way she does on you, if you catch my drift.
Oscar: I- (Raises an Eyebrow a Bit in Confusion) think so?
Tai: Like, how happy you've made her and how you've inspired her to better herself as huntress and person and what have you.
Oscar: Ohhh! Okay, gotcha. (Chuckles a But Before Rubbing The Back of his Head and Putting on a More Sheepish Smile) I honestly feel like she inspired me a lot more if anything. Can't imagine what my life would've been like if Oz didn't convinced me to go meet her and the others in Mistral.......
Tai: (Casually Shrugs) I'm sure you two would've met under different circumstances. (Smiles Brightly) Even then, there wouldn't be any doubt in my mind that you two would be a perfect match for one another.
Oscar: (Stares at Taiyang For a Brief Second Before Happily Bowing his Head to Him) Thank you, sir. I'm not as strong as Ruby, at least when it comes to combat, but I promise I'll continue to keep her safe.
Tai: You don't have to the strongest in the globe to try and look after her, yoi know? You're a team, partners in crime busting. You really think Ruby gonna let you fight on your own at your very lowest?
Oscar: No, she would beat 'em down in a bloody pulp if anyone dares lay a finger on me. Her words.
Tai: (Burst Out Laughing) Exactly! She'll always have your back and you'll always have hers, even when she'll propose to you on the spot one of these days!
Oscar: Pretty sure that's too early to- Wait. (Raises an Eyebrow Again) You think Ruby will propose before me?
Tai: (Forms a Cheeky Grin) I believe so, yes~ Girl's loves you way too much not to at this point. Especially since she takes under her mother, Summer.
Oscar: She proposed to you in the past?
Tai: Oh yeah. Night out under the stars, in the middle of the forest. (Starts Snickering) She quickly swept me off my feet and kissed me the very moment I said "Yes". That was like the most romantic thing she'd done yet!
Oscar: (Chuckles Lightly) Oho she is definitely Ruby's mom alright.
Tai: What? She swepts you off your feet too?
Oscar: More times than I can could.
'Door Opens'
WE'RE HOOOOOOME!~
Oscar: (Sighs as He and Tai Turns to See Two Very Familiar Faces Entering the Room) Speaking of which.......
Tai: (Smiles Brightly at his Two Daughters, Ruby and Yang) Hey there, ladies! How was your mini patrol today?
Yang: (Rolls her Eyes a Bit) As uneventfully time wasting as you can imagine.
Ruby: Yeah, they weren't any sight of Grimm anywhere so they let us come back home early. Which is great- (Rushes Over and Hugs Oscar Very Lovingly) Cause we missed you like crazy, honey!~
Yang: (Gently Ruffles the Top of Oscar's Hair With a Bright Smile) Hope you and dad had a great time at home together today. He wasn't boring you too much, was he?
Oscar: Nah. Not really. He was cool enough to make us both lemonade after I helped him take care of his garden and whatnot.
Tai: (Forms Another Cheeky Grin) I'm a good company in his eyes. Possibly better you girls are.
Yang: ('Playfully Scoffs') Please. I'm a FAR more funner company for him than you'll be, old man.
Ruby: (Starts Pouting at her Sister and Father) Um hello! Girlfriend in the room! I'm clearly the most superior company he ever has around here!~
Yang: Over Nora? I don't believe it.
Tai: Yeah, that kind seems far fetched there, kiddo.
Ruby: (Comically Glares at the Two) IS NOT!!
Oscar: Guys, guys, you ALL are amazing company to me. Now cool already.
Yang: (Points at Ruby) I will once she's brave enough to pop the question~
Ruby: (Turns to Yang) Hey! I'll put a ring on his finger one of these days, quit rushing me!!
Tai: (Watches the Girls Bicker Along with a Flustered Oscar) Well, whaddya know? (Gives Oscar a Bit of a Cocky Like Smirk) I was right on the money this hole-time~
'Bada Tssssss'
Oscar: (Gives his Future Father in Law a Deadpinned Look) Don't start. (Turns Back to his Girlfriend) Hey Ruby, I have a surprise to give you if you shimmer down a bit.
Ruby: (Growling at Tongue Sticked Out Yang Before Quickly Turning Back to Oscar) ('Gasps') You do? Truly?
Oscar: Yeah. (Gets Himself Up From his Seat) It's not much, but consider this a token for your hardwork as a huntress- (Gives Ruby a Kiss on the Cheek Before Turning Away, Blushing and Smiling a Little) As well as being the best girlfriend I could ever ask for~
Yang: (Clasps her Hands Together in Awe) Awwww~ That's so sweet~
Tai: (Chuckles Lightly) And very gentleman like!~ That kid's a real keeper, Ruby.
Ruby: (Giggles Softly While Blushing as Well) You darn right he is!~ (Hugs Oscar Again) How bold of you to kiss me in front if my dad like that, Mister Farm Boi!~
Oscar: (Shrugs) Yeah, well, it took every nerve in my body to even think about doing this. Don't expect this to be a recurring thing.
Ruby: Don't worry, I won't. (Forms a Mischievous Grin on her Face) Buuuuuuuuut~
Oscar: Oh god, what is it?
Ruby: Given that you've been so kind as to bond and help my dad with gardening, I think it's right that I return a favor, no?~
Oscar: Yeah, sure, if that's what you wanna- DO!? (Immediately Gets Swept Off His Feet by Ruby)
Ruby: (Happily Carrying Oscar in a Bridal Carry) Of course!~ (Looks Down at Oscar With a More Flirtatious Smirk on her Face) Now brace yourself and plucked up~ (Ignite her Kissy Fury Upon Oscar's Freckled Face)
Oscar: (Chuckles Ticklishly by Ruby's Love and Affection) Rubyhehehe!~ Not in front of your familyhe!~
Yang: (Let's Out a Bit of a Playful Grossed Out Noise While Watching the Couple's Antics Along with Her Father) ('Ugh') Young love.
Tai: (Smirks at Yang) Oh and like you haven't done the same to Blake.
Yang: Hey, at least we had the common decency to do it closed doors. Those two have no shame at all!
Tai: Just like your mother and I~
Yang: Summer or Raven?
Tai: ...............Yes.
Yang: (Sighs While Rolling her Eyes) Barf.
Tai: Hey, you asked!
Yang: And I'm regretting it as we speak! (Turns Back to Taiyang) Get off my freaking back!!
Tai: Twerp!
Yang: Old Fart!
Tai and Yang glare at each other for a few seconds before they start breaking down laughing.
Yang: ('Sigh') But no seriously though, dad. I'm glad you like Oscar.
Tai: (Smiles Softly as He Wrap his Arm Around his Elder Daughter's Arm) I am too, Yang. He's a really good kid and so long as he keeps my girl happy, that's good enough for me. Though I do wish he would appericate my puns a lot more. I'm getting desperate here.
Yang: (Gently Pats her Dad on the Back) He'll come around to them eventually.
Happy Father's Day!!!

Very late, but, https://www.tumblr.com/blue-cheeseinmyoffwhites/756639587329277952/rwby-asks-are-open-im-bored?source=share
Who's you're favorite character?
Quick shoutout to the lovely @tumblingxelian for their amazing RWBY content check them out on YT
Let’s do Top 5
Mercury Black
This is solely because of his fighting style. If I could fuck up some stuff with my legs I’d probably be a dick about it too. I started RWBY during V2 & he was one of the first faces I met. I remember LOVING his design & liking his cool laid-back attitude. He started gaining my attention in Volume 3 after his fight with Coco & Yatsu, then won me over after his fight with Yang. I remember being baffled after his prosthetic reveal, & after learning about his allusion it all came together. For the longest time I was trying to decode his semblance (I thought it was something to do with wind manipulation) then V6 came around & shut all that down. I understand he hasn’t been very popular as of late, but I think he has so much potential & they just need to give him more screentime in V10+
Sun Wukong
I appreciate an unconditionally positive character. Sun & Mercury have always just been so cool to me. His design is great too, I like his monkey traits & how he shows his abs. His weapon is genuinely top 5 in the series, & his semblance matches his bright personality. One of my favorite fight scenes is Blake & Sun vs Sea Feilong & his contribution played a big part of that. I did like his appearance in V4-V5 & I was excited to see his gun-chucks return against Ilia. I think he is a great foil to Blake & serves her character arc really well.
Cinder Fall
Sorry but Cinder Fall is just that bitch. I hate everything she does & that’s why I love her. She knows what she wants & can easily get people on her side to do her bidding. She actually pushes the narrative & I consider her to be the main antagonist. The animators take real care when it comes to her battles. She has not missed a SINGLE fight she has been in. Seriously every one has been a hit: Glynda, Amber, Ozpin, Pyrrha, Raven, Neo, Winter, Penny, etc etc. Anytime there is a fight involving Cinder it’s going to be rememberable in some way, especially the Raven vs Cinder fight. I vividly remember my mind going numb watching it for the first time. I do feel they made her a little OP but it’s whatever. I really like her character arc & how she’s slowly turning into a Grimm. I loved her backstory, a lot of people didn’t because it’s just “Cinderella but dark” but like…..that’s kinda the entire point of this series, dark retellings of fairytales. She’s a great foil to Ruby & actually learns from her to gain victory in V8. I just want them to have a proper fight.
Qrow Branwen
Qrow Qrow Qrow. I love their man & want to give him hugs. If there’s one thing RWBY does amazingly, it is setup & payoff. I love his they slowly teased him in V1-V2 as a badass & then finally let us visualize it in V3. He doesn’t take crap from anyone & says what’s on his mind. Love Love LOVE his relationship with Ruby (forever holding onto my cracktheory that he’s her real dad). He acts as her mentor & influenced her fighting style. I like how he became the leader of the team for some time & how his laid-back attitude conflicts with him suddenly having to take care of 8 kids. But he does it anyway. His fight scenes are also amazing. He always looks so confident. His first appearance in V3 he had that super dynamic fight against Winter. In V4 he fought Tyrian & showed Team RNJR (& us) the difference between students & Huntsmen. V7 is where he really shined for me. He finally had a relationship that wasn’t affected by his semblance & can just chill for a while. I very much enjoyed his relationship with Clover & was heartbroken by what happened after. But those last 2 fights with them were pretty great. I hope his semblance evolves into Good Luck as well.
Yang Xiao Long
I like all members of Team RWBY but Yang stands out for obvious reasons. She had the best Trailer for one. Also her fighting style is the most different from her teammates. They’re all swing-swing-slash & she’s all punch-punch-kick. Like Cinder, Yang gets the best treatment when it comes to fight scenes. She’s been marketed as the strongest member & it shows over & over again. Her semblance is super cool & makes her look like a Goddess. I like how her character arc revolves around her fighting style & we can actually see her improvement throughout the volumes. I like how she is the most vocal about the whole trust situation in V5-V8. She lost her arm for this war, she of all people deserves some answers. I really adore her relationship with Blake & I think their story is perfect. She’s the heart of the team & it’s most present in V5 when she is the one reuniting the team.

A Tale of Huntsmen: Team JNPR Initial Plans
With JNPR I'm going to be focusing on largely just fleshing them out and giving them more to do. Both inside out outside of the team.
Jaune Arc
Good old Jaune Arc, everyone's favorite or least favorite character. I'm going to keep him mostly how he is in canon in terms of his personality and what we know of his background. Which we really don't know that much about outside of his great great grandad fighting in the great war and him having seven sisters.
Right now I'm planning on having him and Pyrrha kind of switch backgrounds in terms of who they're based on. So instead of being a lower class farmer like Joan of Arc, Jaune is going to be from a noble family. Or at least Vale's version of one. Though probably more low nobility and kind of "small town wealthy" and not crazy rich like the Schnees.
As for why he's untrained, there's a few ways to go with that. Personally I'm leaning more towards him, and his sisters, being intentionally kept away from the huntsmen lifestyle by their father at least. Though I am going to have him know that basic stuff that you could learn from a 5 minute google search in universe.
Probably going to give him a few "non-huntsmen" skills to kind of balance him out though.
Also probably going to turn down his attempts at wooing Weiss a little bit. Flesh out his rivalry with Cardin and probably turn it more into an actual rivalry.
Also figure out if I want Arkos to be a thing or not.
Now in terms of what Jaune's role is going to be in the bigger RWBY+JNPR group. He's going to act more as Ruby's Lieutenant in a lot of cases. With the pair of leaders being responsible for a lot of the planning that happens.
Nora Valkyrie
Honestly, Nora and Ren and pretty much just named background characters for a lot of the early volumes. So just giving them something to do will be a good start.
I'm going to keep her backstory pretty much the same, though probably with a bit more detail on what they did after the Grimm attack and how they ended up as huntsmen in training. I'm probably going to have them travel around a little bit before going to Beacon. Though probably only in Mistral, and maybe a little bit in Vale.
I'm still mostly going to have Ren and Nora attached at the hip. Though I'll probably have a plotline where they're not together at some point during Beacon.
I'm not really sure what role Nora is going to play in the greater team just yet. Since Yang is going to be more of the team mom, I don't really want them both playing the same role. Going to have to do some more thinking on that.
Pyrrha Nikos
With Pyrrha we really don't know much at all about her background outside of being from Argus. Or really what her motivations for being a huntress/tournament fighter is. So I'll be expanding on that.
As I mentioned in the Jaune section, I'm giving Pyrrha kind of the opposite of Achilles' background. So she's going to start off in a lower class family and be a first generation huntsman. Making her family fairly rich along the way.
With Pyrrha being discovered by a huntsmen version of a talent agency fairly young. So she's basically the huntsmen version of a child actor. Her motivations being to keep providing for her family and a bit of "destiny". Since she does have a fairly strong aura and great semblance. She does feel that it is her destiny to be a fighter.
She's also probably going to be more guarded early on. Taking a bit to open up to her teammates. With them, of course, becoming very close by the time Volume 3 rolls around.
However, her fate will be the same.
Lie Ren
A lot that can be said about Ren has already been talked about in the Nora section. So this one is probably going to be a little short.
I think Ren is kind of going to play the team dad role of the team overall. Adding a bit of structure to the team and keeping everyone focused when they need to be. He never really takes over Jaune or Ruby's leader roles with them around. Though he can kind of act as a leader if both of them are missing, but he very much dislikes being put into that position.
Other than that, I'm probably going to give him some time with "the guys" once SSSN shows up. Though him and Nora are still going to be mostly attached at the hip during the Beacon arcs.
Probably going to get into why Renora isn't already a thing at some point too.

The Parallels Between Agents of SHIELD's Uprising Arc and RWBY's Fall of Beacon Arc
Honestly, as a fan of both, it surprised me how much they have in common. Now, for those of you who've only seen one or the other, here's some background. Warning, lots of spoilers.
The Uprising arc for Agents of SHIELD (AoS), as promotional material liked to name it, was episodes 1x16 - 1x22 (season finale). The events of those episodes ran alongside the plot of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where Nazi organization HYDRA was found to be inside of spy organization SHIELD since SHIELD's inception. This arc of the show was written with the movie in mind.
RWBY's Fall of Beacon arc was episodes 3x07 - 3x12 (volume finale). This arc was planned from the inception of the show and the first two and a half volumes spent building up to it. It culminated in the annihilation of the Beacon Academy (the main set location up to this point in the show), the destruction of worldwide communications, and a lot of other things.
I was rewatching the Fall of Beacon arc all over again the other day and it hammed home just how much these shows had in common. They both have:
An arc in the back half of the season/volume that completely change the trajectory of the show HYDRA reveal and the dissolution of SHIELD (Uprising) Maidens/Salem reveal and the Destruction of Beacon (Fall of Beacon)
This arc takes place between one episode titled End of the Beginning (AoS 1x16, RWBY V3 finale) and another titled Beginning of the End (AoS S1 Finale, RWBY 3x07)
A popular main character gets badly injured Fitz gains a traumatic brain injury Yang loses an arm
This character is then separated from their future love interest, and believes they were abandoned by them Fitz by Simmons Yang by Blake
Crazy obsessed boys working with the bad guys who can't let go of the girl and become worse with their obsession later on in the show Grant Ward (with Skye) Adam Taurus (with Blake)
First semi official appearance of a "missing" family member of one of the main characters in the finale. They officially appear in the following season/volume having a temporary alliance with the series antagonists. AoS ending scene has Skye's dad, Cal, cameo (just his hand is shown) RWBY has Yang's mom, Raven, cameo (in bird form) outside Yang's window
One of the main character's are "special" Skye is one of several characters who were given alien blood to heal from the brink of death and the only one who didn't have a negative reaction to it. Her origins at this point are unknown to everyone, including herself. Ruby's Silver Eyes are revealed to be able to neutralize monsters known as Grimm with a flash of light from her eyes
Both of these character's "Special" traits are passed down from their mothers and put a target on their heads Skye is later revealed to be an Inhuman and gets superpowers. The inhuman genes were passed down from her mother, Jiaying. At various points in the show, inhumans are locked up/killed due to their powers, dissected in the name of experimentation, or used by others like weapons. Ruby's silver eyes are a rare trait passed down by her mother, Summer Rose. These silver eyes make her a target of Grimm Queen Salem, who has historically hunted down and killed Silver Eyed Warriors (SEWs). In recent years, she has also done experiments on SEWs to transform them into Grimm.
Betrayal Grant Ward tricked the rest of his team. He was HYDRA all along RWBY and Co had thought Cinder and her team were just transfer students when they had been placed there to bring the school down
Good Guys figure out what's going on too late Skye only realizes Grant Ward is HYDRA after discovering Agent Eric Koenig's body and recognizing Ward was the only one who could have killed him (the two of them are the only ones remaining in the Base). Ruby starts piecing things together when realizing Emerald is still in town (not leaving with her injured teammate as Ruby's team was told earlier) and seeing Mercury (Emerald's teammate who should have had a leg injury) unharmed. Sadly, she is unable to stop their plan from going into motion and Penny Polendina is killed.
Season baddie who dies and then returns in some form during the latest/last season John Garrett, whose past self showed up in S7 Roman Torchwick, who appeared via Neo's illusions in V9
Big guy in charge assumed to be Killed In Action, later revealed to be alive Nick Fury Professor Ozpin (Ozma)
I know some of this information was revealed in later Seasons/Volumes, but it was at least starting to be set up during the arcs I mentioned.
There's probably more similarities I haven't thought of, but man was there a lot just off the top of my head.
No wonder I love both shows lol

Jaune go's to a monster school au. He is a Human aloud to go because his family His ability and his abundance of Mana. He was never that how to use it the So, despite getting similar results to other students, he uses absurd amounts of manna on stuff that really should abuse that much. Weiss is a vampier, rwby werewolf, yang a dragon, penny a golem, Blake is a werecat, Ren a ghost, Nora a Valkyrie, pariah is a demigod daughter of Aries.
Jaune: Hi, I'm Jaune. Jaune Arc. Short, sweet, and rolls of the tongue. The ladies love it~.
Jaune: ...Okay, maybe they don't now, but they will! Anyway, that's not what I wanted to talk about. See, I kind of need to vent, and this is the only way I really can.
Jaune: But what do I have to vent about? I have a great family, a lot of great friends, and a bright future ahead of me! I just... have to survive until I reach it.
Jaune: ...Let me start over. My name is Jaune Arc, the only son born to the Arc family, who are one of the few families on Remnant with access to mana, or magic. I'm not very good at it, but I'm good enough to not be allowed to go to normal, regular people school.
Jaune: So that's why I'm attending Beacon's Light Academy of Magic, which was explained to me at one of the four "Great Mage" academies in Remnant, along with Atlas's Might, Haven's Garden, and Vacuo's End. It's not so bad so far, since I'm learning a lot at Beacon with my best friend, Ruby Rose.
-------------------------------------------
Jaune: What's for lunch, Ruby?
Ruby: (Sniffs) Mm... Beef...
Jaune: What else?
Ruby: Uh... I don't know. Why? The only thing you need to eat is beef, pork, and chicken, right?
Jaune: Uh...
-------------------------------------------
Jaune: See, Ruby is a werewolf. Yeah. You heard me. Half-human, half-wolf. I don't really know what the story is, since I don't really pry into her business, but Ruby basically has what's called "primal mana," which is magic based on tapping into your most base instincts and emotions, like fear, anger, and hunger. She's usually cool, except on the days that have full moons later that night, then she gets super irritable. She can still go to day classes, but she has to go to the safety bunker before... Well, based on the claw marks I see getting fixed the next morning, it's something super bad. Like, so bad, Weiss can't go to her night classes.
Jaune: Oh, speaking of Weiss, she's also my friend, and I kinda have crush on her. ...Okay, she's not really my friend yet. More of a friend of a friend. But I'm getting there, I think. But it might be best for me to keep my distance from her because the reason I can only see her so few times is because...
-------------------------------------------
Jaune: Oh, uh, h-hey, Weiss!
Weiss: For the love of... Good morning, Jaune.
Jaune: So, uh, how... How were your classes?
Weiss: Fine, Jaune.
Jaune: Cool, cool... So, uh... Do you... wanna get some... blood?
Weiss: (Puts her book down)
Weiss: (Slowly turns to look at him, Bewildered)
Jaune: ...Is that a no?
-------------------------------------------
Jaune: Look, if someone as flat and uninteresting as romance novel teens can get vampires, why shouldn't I try my luck? You know, besides the fact that I'm Type-O and probably a better meal than a friend to her. Nevertheless, I will keep trying... until she tells me she wants nothing to do with me. Which she hasn't. Yet. But she won't! Maybe.
Jaune: Anyway, being a vampire is kind of a double-edged lottery sword. It's part of something called "genesis mana," or "Blood Magic". Only people of a certain bloodline can access this, but it also curses your family to become some kind of monster, like a vampire, a wendigo, or even a werewolf. And that's why the Schnee family is so picky about who hangs out with who. My dad used to tell me that some families turn away suitors because "certain blood dulls the mana". He also tells me it's stupid, but also stupid to try my luck. Thankfully, he's not here to judge me, and I have friends who're willing to support me, like Ruby and...
-------------------------------------------
Penny: Sal-u-tations~!
Jaune: Oh, hey, Penny. What's going on?
Penny: I have heard about your recent failures with friend Weiss and have been instructed by friend Ruby to cheer you up!
Ruby: W-What?! N-No, I didn't!
Jaune: ...
Jaune: (Writes on a napkin) Ruby, I have a command written on this napkin. The command is, "Show me every command Ruby gave." You either tell me the truth, or I ask Penny to eat this.
Ruby: She can say no, though, so there!
Jaune: Penny, would you like to eat this napkin with a command written on it?
Penny: Yes, I would!
Ruby: NOOOOOOO!
-------------------------------------------
Jaune: She's also a really great lie detector. I mean, except for when telling her own lies. That's just how golems are, I guess. Penny is kind of a... experiment Atlas is testing out at Beacon. She's going to be attending here as a way to test if golems are sentient and capable of safely interacting with other people. Why a school full of young adults would be considered safe, I have no idea, but I'm glad to have a friend like Penny around. And as far as I can tell, whether you were born or crafted together with "creati mana," you're still human to me!
Jaune: Uh, I mean people! You're still people to me! Hah... Sorry... Last time I said "human," I got on the bad side of...
-------------------------------------------
Blake: You were late to class.
Jaune: Sorry, sorry!
Blake: Being sorry doesn't excuse you showing up late.
Jaune: Right, sorry. I was up late last night, reading a really good issue of X-Ray and Vav.
Blake: ...You stayed up late. For a comic book.
Jaune: A really good one! You like reading, don't you?
Blake: ...
Blake: (Digs claws into the table)
-------------------------------------------
Jaune: Yeah, Ruby isn't the only one who can access "primal mana". In fact, it's a lot more common for faunus to access it than humans, for obvious reasons. But unlike Ruby, Blake seems irritated all the time when it comes to hanging out with me. Honestly, she feels more like a friend of a friend than Weiss does with me. Almost every word that I say seems to piss her off, and I don't know why.
Jaune: Hah... Guess I'm just unlucky with girls as friends, since I get along really well with...
-------------------------------------------
Jaune: Yo, Ren!
Ren: Good morning, Jaune.
Jaune: Any luck last night?
Ren: Not yet. But I did rearrange the recipe in the cafeteria for a healthier meal this afternoon.
Jaune: Oh... Uh...
Ruby: WHERE'S THE BEEF?!
-------------------------------------------
Jaune: Ren is a ghost, and he's been haunting this school for the past... I don't really know. But what I do know is how Ren got to where he is now. See, he was human, like me, and before he died in school, he cast a spell that bound his soul to the school.
Ren: Wrong.
Jaune: AGH!
Ren: I was attuned with "psyki mana" and could manifest my soul so I could find my best friend after I died. We were supposed to graduate, but when I finally came to life, she'd already left without me.
Jaune: Wait, you didn't cast a spell or anything?
Ren: In order for me to cast, I would require access to my aura, which was lost in my final moments. But my soul is still present, though it requires time and effort to manifest.
Jaune: ...
Ren: You can just say you don't know.
Jaune: I don't know. But, uh, were you able to get into the office?
Ren: No. Access to the office is protected from every mana variant known to Remnant. Nothing magical in nature, including a ghost, can enter.
Jaune: Geez, that's rough. You know who might be able to help?
-------------------------------------------
Nora: Alright, alright, what's going on now?
Jaune: Uh, well, I was just making my way to class when suddenly-
Nora: Were you attacking this poor girl?!
Jaune: What?! No! It's the other way around!
Nora: HA! Yeah, right! Look at you! You're twice her size and SHE attacked you?
Ruby: You stole my comic book!
Jaune: I did not!
Nora: Oh, really? Hand it over, kid.
Jaune: But-
Nora: HAND. IT. OVER.
-------------------------------------------
Jaune: ...On second thought, nevermind. Valkyries aren't really that helpful, are they?
Ren: It depends on what the situation is. If it's in response to a violent crime, they are merciless and will do whatever it takes to protect the innocent in the magic realm.
Jaune: But if it's a petty crime?
Ren: They... can be a bit biased in who they assist. Unless their opponent is a hostile monster with a weapon, they're not good with delegation and diplomacy. But they do care.
Jaune: Well, you could always ask one, right?
Ren: Unfortunately, no. Valkyries are protected by a specialized armor that prevents the effects of mana. A ghost like me can't even be seen by them, let alone get near one.
Jaune: Dang... Well, best of luck to you.
Ren: Thank you. Also, before I leave, I was asked to find you.
Jaune: Really? By who?
-------------------------------------------
Jaune: Uh, h-hi...
Pyrrha: H-Hi...
Jaune: ...
Pyrrha: ...
Jaune: So, uh-
Pyrrha: DADDY, NO!
Jaune: Wha-?
Jaune: (Sees giant boar barreling at him)
-------------------------------------------
Jaune: Ugh... Great... You ever heard of helicopter parents? Well, with someone like Pyrrha, her helicopter dad comes equipped with a rocket launcher and twin machine guns. And a hatred for any boy that gets close to his daughter. Kind of expected since her dad is the God of War. And when I say god, I mean ALL the gods of war to have ever existed. It's part of her "deity mana," where a very lucky few are literal descendants of the divine. And hers happens to be the embodiment of war, violence, and combat. So not only can her dad kick my ass, but SHE can kick my ass!
Jaune: I don't know how I'm going to survive this school, but hey, here's hoping I can at least make it to graduation!

My Proposal For A Generic Sports Show RWBY AU
Yes, I know it's a weird direction for a RWBY AU, just go with it.
I don't know what sport it would be, but here's my cast.
------
Qrow: The elite former player turned alcoholic failure after his career was ruined by... something. Forced to coach the Crap But Nice Protag Team with some sort of penalty if he doesn't. Starts off not really caring and being very frustrated by the poor state of the team. Starts to loosen up, probably stops drinking too, around the midpoint of the story. Probably has a relapse at the end of the 2nd act, maybe a love interest too.
Taiyang: Assistant coach who's mostly there to keep Qrow in line and cheer on Ruby and Yang. He also handles the morale, team cohesion, and physical conditioning stuff. Doesn't have the "eye for strategy" to be the head coach, at least at the start.
Summer: Still dead.
Raven: Still getting milk.
---
Ruby: Still the protagonist and the youngest of the main characters. Has a lot of talent, isn't the most skilled, and has a few areas she's really strong in. But one area she's terrible in, which just so happens to be Yang's specialty. Will make some mistakes that the more experienced players wouldn't. Some think she's really only on the team because her dad's a coach.
Weiss: Was supposed to be on the Elite But Assholes rival team, but left the team when they wanted to move Weiss to a different position, or something like that. With her being blacklisted from most of the other teams for that. She's pretty good, but not much of a team player, which causes some friction on the team.
Blake: Don't really know what to do with Blake honestly. Might have Adam play for the elite team and dump her. So basically she's just playing to spite Adam? Going to have to work on this one.
Yang: Good overall player, but amazing in one area. Definitely a lot of smack talk from her. Tends to make short sighted decisions when she's angry. Which is definitely going to screw the team over at some point.
Jaune: A last minute addition to the team who really doesn't know the sport and is mostly there to be a benchwarmer. Does terribly whenever he does play, at first, but gets better over the story. He'll still be the worst on the team, but better. Gets really good at the strategic side of the sport, kind of becomes a player coach. Definitely coming up with some awesome strategy during The Big Game.
Nora: Nora's just there for fun. She's also pretty good, but I don't really have any big plotline for her yet.
Pyrrha: Amazing player who decided not to play for the upstart team instead of the rivals. The best player on the team by a wide margin. Doesnt really connect with the rest of the team at first though, but she does eventually. 100% getting injured before The Big Game.
Ren: Nora dragged him along.
------
I spent way too long on this.

hi, I was the anon who asked this: [Which led me thinking, Yang has a lot of parallels with the villains, notably, Adam, Cinder, and Salem. What do you think is the ideal route of Yang during volume 4?] I probably didn't phrase that right. Uh, I was a bit dissatisfied with Yang's arc at volume 4. I know it wasn't supposed to be comfortable since it shows Tai's and Yang's traumas but it wasn't the good kind of bad. I guess I wanted more things to be added to Yang's arc in volume 4 or for some things to be slightly adjusted. Like in the DC comics, there was a character named Madame Mallari who helped Yang, she's an old lady who's a doctor and has prosthetic legs. It got me thinking that if she really was supposed to be part of canon then why show it late? If there are other people who can give Yang support then why didn't they show it at Vol 4? What if something bad happened to Yang while Tai was at Signal (it is to my belief that Signal was still operational since it was located in Patch)?
I am just uncomfortable with it especially when the show frames that it's somehow Yang's fault for rushing at Adam when there is no either choice left. I admit that it may be quite unreasonable for me to think like that. Anyways, sorry for the rant.
Uh, did you know that magical artifacts in RWBY existed? It was established in one of the games. Apparently, one of the artifacts was capable of controlling some Grimm and it was wielded by one of Salem's agent in Mistral. It got me thinking that since magic is hereditary, does that mean one of the Schnee's ancestor got an artifact and somehow made their semblances hereditary and the same throughout the generations?
this is an older post, but i still stand by it.
i don’t disagree with (most) of your take on her v4 arc: i don’t think the narrative framing is at all that it’s yang’s fault she got hurt, and i also (as outlined in the linked post) don’t think we’re intended to agree with tai’s assessment of what he saw in yang during the vytal tournament fights, which is what he bases his advice on because that’s the only thing he saw, but yang’s isolation and the dearth of support she receives during this very vulnerable time in her life are indeed uncomfortable. my feeling though is that discomfort is a feature, not a bug.
like, in V2, yang recounts one of her childhood memories to blake that involved her waiting for tai to leave the house before she put her three- or four-year-old baby sister in a wagon and left to wander through the woods for hours before anyone found them. yang would have been five or six years old. so we know that tai often left the girls at home alone when they were very young. probably he was leaving to go to work, a predictable circumstance with a regular schedule, so why didn’t he arrange childcare during the day? why didn’t they go to a neighbor’s house or a daycare or preschool? why didn’t he hire a babysitter? why leave two very small children at home alone in a cabin in the middle of grimm-infested woods?
there’s a through line between tai’s neglect of the girls back then and the way he treats yang in V4. and in V4, it is abundantly clear that yang does not feel comfortable enough with her dad to show him emotional vulnerability or rely on him for… anything except combat training, really; the only time yang really opens up in V4 is with oobleck and port, who (unlike tai) ask her how she’s feeling and validate her feelings and are also visibly horrified by the really harsh way tai talks to his daughter.
i haven’t read the DC comics and my understanding is they’re not canon? but based on yang’s anecdote in V2 and what tai does in V4, i think the answer to “if yang was supposed to have more support, why didn’t it happen in V4?” is probably that she wasn’t; and the answer to “why didn’t she get more support” is that tai is neglectful and also displaces how he feels about raven onto yang to a harmful degree. yang feels like he expects her to just pop on the prosthetic arm he surprised her with and magically be okay overnight because that is… how tai acts.
in a lot of ways it’s akin to what weiss goes through in V4—tai is not nearly as bad as jacques, but he is neglectful and his ‘tough love’ does hurt yang’s feelings and his singular focus on only her physical recovery does lasting emotional harm that she’s only now, in V9, beginning to confront. and in V5, weiss gets yang to open up with her by telling yang about her dad abusing her family and watching her mom disappear into an alcoholic shell of herself, which makes yang feel understood.
because weiss’ home life isn’t exactly the same but it resonates with yang; she and ruby grew up taking care of qrow when he was blackout drunk and their dad wasn’t around and didn’t make arrangements for them to be taken care of while he was working. and weiss—who is very empathetic and emotionally insightful, see also her clear and accurate understanding of why blake left—has picked up on enough hints, read enough between the lines of what little yang and ruby said about their dad at beacon, to have known this story would resonate.
like a big part the reason i like yang’s V4 arc is it explores the many ways tai fails her in a way that feels cogent with what we learned about him in V2. it shows both the acute trauma of having lost her arm but also the much subtler and more complicated scars of having been neglected and parentified by her dad throughout her life.
anyways!
i have watched the grimm campaign, yeah. the magical artifacts are interesting on the grounds that they rely on aura to activate them, same as dust, which imo supports my theory that aura is magic, just rising from the human soul rather than reliant on the gods, and that ancient humans did not have aura because it was suppressed or bound by the divine blessings.
i’m also inclined to think that there’s always or at least often a hereditary element to semblances, because they’re informed by a person’s nature and identity and those things are influenced by your family; the directly hereditary and also exceptionally versatile schnee semblance is i think probably the result of a really strong identification with the family and a belief in the hereditary semblance, with the versatility coming from individual variations getting passed down generation to generation. one schnee had a speed semblance, another could summon constructs of fallen foes, but it looked superficially similar so the schnees have always believed these diverse abilities to be the same semblance and taught each other how to do everything. belief makes it so. i think semblances are a lot more malleable than anyone gives them credit for, in or out of universe.

Hey, can we talk about how Weiss is the luckiest Member of RWBYJNPR?
Just real Quick?
Like no one should compare traumas, it's not a competition. But. like.
Weiss has suffered the least of them all? But was somehow also the worst of them in the beginning?
Because She had
Abusive father
absent, alcoholic mother
threat of being attacked because of her name
Has a scar over one eye, doesn't show signs of impairment
And then she got better as a person and personally suffered
Forced 'home' by evil father
getting kidnapped
getting stabbed with a spear
...
Home literally falls into the water
Watched her team fall into the void.
Ever After shenaningans?
That's it.
That's all her own personal suffering, and for a lot of that she had friends and family, like Klein or Winter, or RWBY! She even left WHitley alone when she was young, clinging to winter!
Compared to;
Ruby
Mom presumed dead
Dad was depressed
uncle was alcoholic
Raised mostly by sister
entered into a combat school early (This one IS negative for her)
Jumped into and active cannon
hunted for her eyes
watched a friend die in front of her. Like. Four times, even if one was a mouse and the other was an illusion
Watched Yang Take a hit and Fall into the coid, assumed she was dead.
a friend that came back to life died to another friend
feels the weight of the world is on her shoulders
LITERALLY ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
Yang
abandoned by mother
step mom presumed dead
father was horribly depressed
uncle was an alcolholic
had to raise sister
lost arm
abandoned by partner and sister.
Had to kill to survive
Self sacrificial tendencies.
Watched Sister she had raised attempt to Commit suicide
so yeah she's got abandonment issues
Blake
Is a minority, suffers from peoples racism.
Abusive, genocidal ex-boyfriend
Said Ex attempted to murder her and Yang, forcing them to kill him instead.
More Racism
Watched the woman she loved sacrifice herself.
AND JNPR
Jaune
His parents actively kept him from pursuing his dream
Criminally negligent, literally didn't know the basics of Hunting
Given Terrible romantic advice by dad
bullied, blackmailed, beat down on.
constantly belittled and denied by his crush (I don't blame weiss for saying no, but it still hurt him)
First person to believe in him Kissed him, Didn't believe in him, ran off to her death.
Suffered severe imposter syndrome and survivors guilt, along with depression and suicidal thoughts
never felt good enough
Nearly got Weiss killed because of Cinder
Took anger out on oscar, Regretted it
Nearly got his team killed because they agreed with his plan to steal an airship
Neo beat up his team! Stole the Relic of Knowledge!
Watched so many of his Friends fall into the Void
had to assist in a Friend's suicide
Family Sword (And therefore legacy) Broke
LEFT BEHIND BY WINTER, WHO COULD HAVE VERY EASILY SAVED HIM.
Lost in a Goddamn fairytale world for a decade or two, alone. on a beach. ALONE.
Drank poison because that's what the story said to do. Couldn't even fucking die right.
The Paper pleasers. Just everything with the paper pleasers
His friends, once reunited with him, thought he had gone insane (He kinda had lost it, but really who wouldn't have?) and They didn't believe him. That hurt.
Pyrrha and Penny Illusion by NeoCat
Damn Jaune really is the Spider-man of RWBY, isn't he. His story is fucking sorrowful.
Pyrrha
Put on a pedestal above her Peers, very lonely
Object of affection focused on someone else
Given a nonchoice to protect people.
Fucking Died. Has remained dead. haunts the narrative.
Ren
parents died
lived on the road most of his life
His power is literally emotional repression
only had Nora
Lost his new family in the Void.
Nora
presumably never had a dad
abandoned by Mother
Lived on the road
only had Ren
That Shock-Force-Field thing in Atlas, left with permanent scarring.
Family Fell into the Void.
So, like. Can Weiss spread the wealth a little bit? In terms of luck?
The rest of them could probably really use it.
OF COURSE
None of this is to say Weiss Hasn't Suffered, she really has suffered in her own ways.
But like.
Not as much as any one other individual in her group.

Someone Back Home
Jaune/Elizabeth: *Walking along the boardwalk in Battleship Bay, enjoying some cotton candy and trying to blend in*
Elizabeth: *Tucks some hair behind her ear* So, Mr. Arc. Is there a woman in your life?
Jaune: *Surprised* Wow, uhmm guess you can say "not at the moment". Things have been kinda... hectic for me lately. Between trying to save the world and falling between realities, I haven't had too much time for romance.
Elizabeth: *Sigh of relief* Well, that's a comfort.
Jaune: *Raise eyebrow* It's comforting that I'm single?
Elizabeth: *Blush* N-No! I- I'm just relieved that... I'm not keeping you away from someone back home! I'd feel awful if you'd got hurt on my behalf while your darling worried sick about you. Yes, that's it.
Jaune: Oh. Well, now that you mention it, I guess I do have a lot of people back home who are probably worried about me right now. My teammates, Ren, Nora, and Oscar… they must be wondering what happened to us. And Team RWBY, I can only hope they're safe wherever they are. As for my family, Mom, Dad, and the girls, they might have heard about Atlas by now. *Nervous laugh* I can already imagine the surprise on their faces if they think I'm… well, you know, gone. That would make for quite an interesting homecoming, to say the least.
Elizabeth: Wow... I'm sorry Mr. Arc.
Jaune: *Smiles* It's alright Elizabeth. And please, call me Jaune.
Elizabeth: *Nods earnestly, her eyes filled with empathy* Yes, Jaune. I… I can only imagine what it feels like to have so many people caring about you, missing you, and... loving you. Your home sounds like a truly remarkable place. If there's any way I can assist in reuniting you with your loved ones, I will do everything in my power to ensure your safe and swift return.
Jaune: *Nods, determined* But not one second before we get you to Paris. The mission comes first.
Elizabeth: *Giggles* You sound so chivalrous talking about the mission like that.
Jaune: *Smiles* Guess it's just the knight in me. *Leans on a nearby railing, trying to look as cool and suave as possible* So... how about you? Have a... man in your life?
Elizabeth: *Her cheeks tinted with a blush* Well, Jaune, my life has been quite complicated as well. As you can imagine, being locked inside a tower most of your life doesn't give you many prospects in romance.
Jaune: So nothing between you and that Big Bird Guy?
Elizabeth: *Pauses then laughs* Haha! Y-You mean Songbird?
Jaune: *Grins* Yeah. Songbird. No kind of history there? He did seem a little angry seeing you run off with another guy. Seems to me somebody's jealous.
Elizabeth: *Laughs harder* Maybe that's it! He thought I was eloping and saw you as a no good philanderer. *Giggles and then puts her hand to her head like a faint lady in waiting* Oh Sir Arc! Whisk me away from this terrible place! Let's start a new life in city of Paris!
Jaune: *Laughs and plays along, striking a dashing pose* Fear not, Lady Elizabeth, your wish is my command! We shall escape this city and embark on an adventure like no other. Together, we shall conquer the skies and sail towards the horizon!
Elizabeth: *Laughs melodically, twirling a strand of hair around her finger.* Oh, Jaune, you really are as gallant as they come. Thankyou. For everything... *Looks like she has something on her mind*
Jaune: What is it?
Elizabeth: ...I know you wish to hurry back home as soon as possible, but when we make it to Paris, would it be alright with you to stay, just for a day? It really is a beautiful city, and it'd be a shame if I couldn't share a small piece of it with you after all you're doing for me.
Jaune: *Smiles gently* I'd love that, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth: *Excitement twinkles in her eye* Really?! Promise?
Jaune: *Nods* Arc's Promise.

I thought about your question...how could people hate the Xiao Long Rose Sisters? I think its not what Ruby and Yang are doing...its what they're not doing. They're not in conflict with each other. Sasuke and Itachi from Naruto Ben and Gwen from Ben 10 Examples of not getting along. Then there are rivalries Luffy and Ace from One Piece Then there are cases where its nothing but one sibling protecting the other and that's it. But Ruby and Yang treat each other as equals, are supportive of each other, and care for each other. They also make up after fights. So, this positive sibling energy and relationship? I don't think people are used to it. Or? I don't think people like that positive energy. I've seen too many fanfics where people are opposed to that. And people like to have this belief that siblings are supposed to hate each other, a stereotype perpetuated by media. RWBY doesn't do that stereotype.
Not to mention, when has there been a positive half-sibling relationship in media? Other than say, RWBY? Normally, those cases are conflicts as well! What are your thoughts on this?
i'll admit, while i meant it as a rhetorical question, you raise good points. a lot of people see characters with happy relationships, and/or a positive outlook, and get jealous cause they don't have that in their lives. and that's not judgement because i have and am there myself with several characters + character dynamics. combine that like you said, with the stereotypes esp around half siblings, and humans being on the more reluctant side when it comes to change/something new and yeah. there's also the thing of when a character or relationship is set up to be mainly one thing, that's what people generally expect, so when it isn't that one thing, it's a surprise and it feels like a betrayal. tbh i supposedly have a half sibling myself, and when i learned about it, it does and still feels unreal partially because half siblings are like, that thing in soap operas and dramas exclusively around which there is a lot of AngstTM and beef between the siblings in question. In a similar vein, i feel like i'm really rolling in the metaphorical gold a bunch with rwby because i love the variety of platonic and familial relationships in the show, esp because of the "unconvential" relationships. like team rwby, team jnpr, and many teams in general are canonically platonically the world to each other, but they clearly don't and feel no need to clearly label and define their relationship to each other. and qrow, taiyang, ruby and yang!!!!! I love love so much that qrow and taiyang raised ruby and yang together, without the need of something like "qrow was in love with summer/tai" "raven made qrow promise to look after yang" etc, or the need to have qrow start being called dad in canon. i could also get into how much i love yang's relationship with summer & raven, the fact that she calls them *both* their mom, because *she* gets to define her relationship to them, no one else, and in general yang's complicated relationship with raven, but that's a whole another post. there's also the schneeblings obv, which is more on topic, but there's so much to say about them and unfortunately i need to be getting to sleep soon, homophobically enough and my bad, this turned into just me gushing about platonic and familial relationships, but alas, i am but a stereotypical aroace that way
#my bad on answering this so late#school got me busy and i didn't notice this#whoops#rwby#asks#iamafanofcartoons#thanks for the ask btw!!
