I know the fandom loves making Rui cry. Hell, I love making Rui more than anything. But I think we're also missing that Rui— never cries.
I think it adds onto the subhuman factor. After all, monsters don't get to have emotions, was there ever a story where a monster cried? Exactly.
I think it's also remarkable that the time we see Rui close to breaking into tears — Curtain Call — he does NOT cry. In fact, Asahi describes it as "a weird face". suits him quite well, doesn't it?
Rui doesn't know how to cry. He can scrunch his face but... He just doesn't know how to.
And then we arrive at Our Happy Ending and he's laughing and crying with all his friends, a messy pile of hugs and arms and warmth and utter desperation for the lost. And he cries, and there are little tears in the corners of his eyes when he leaves the Wonder Stage. He doesn't realize it at first, but when Nene sneers at him and Tsukasa gives him a tissue he suddenly does.
Maybe monsters can cry too.

#have i ever talked about the robot au here? i dont think so#long story short its that kind of au with no core story where i just play around with everyone in it#its a pretty standard kind of chill scifi au tbh. lots of robots around that do various kinds of jobs#everyone in the cast is either human (most of them) or an idol robot (the remaining handful)#nene is an older generation idol robot that was meant to be shut down and destroyed#and while the former part did happen they were not destroyed just abandoned instead#and a few years later rui found them and restored their body as best as he could and reactivated them#now theyre friends. some guy in his mid-late 20s and the robot he lives with. and also sometimes tsukasa is there. ruikasa 👍#in the case of this doodleits like... rui gets invited to a robotics showcase thing and brings nene along with him to it for obvious reason#but nene was not in the best condition and rui wants to present himself a little more nicely in case it can help him make connections#so they both get fun little makeovers. nenes is a lot more temporary than ruis is but thats fine with both of them lol#project sekai#nene kusanagi#rui kamishiro#tsukasa tenma#ruikasa#w1f1 sketches

Ruikasa hater because every time sm1 writes tsukasa & ignores saki’s existence to make rui more important to him im like (extremely loud incorrect buzzer) u have already failed to understand tsukasa tenma.

seeing new appreciation for Dark Era because of the anime rewatch makes me so happy..... could we have a light novel reread series next so that everyone can read Dark Era? 🥹
#bungou stray dogs#out here shilling the DE novel whenever I can to get as many people as possible to read it 🥲 pls read it guys it's so worth it#it will rui- change your life#the anime adaptation is beautiful and the best work Bones has ever done for bsd#but it still can't hold a candle to the novel#so much of Oda's character and the true heartbreak and poignancy of his and Dazai's relationship is only found by reading it#not to mention a better understanding of Ango; Dazai and Aku's relationship; etc#everyone knows Stormbringer and Beast but i feel like Dark Era is one of the most unread light novels#(along with Entrance Exam... *sigh* and 55 Minutes)#I made a visual novel out of Dark Era using anime screenshots and the ost.... would people find it more appealing to read in that format??#I keep waffling about making it public cause idk who would even care lol#but maybe i should just post it one day and see what happens...... i'm proud of it but no one has played it but the friend i made it for#i'd be happy if sharing it got more people to read Dark Era#anyone who's even reading these tags lmao: would you play a visual novel of Dark Era???
