Final Blog Post - Closing the Semester 

As the semester comes to a close, this blog marks both an end and a beginning. It’s a moment to reflect on the incredible journey of growth, learning, and self-discovery. In this post, I’ll briefly discuss the essential skills I’ve developed over the semester and the inspirations that fueled my creative pursuits.   

With the end of 2024, I find myself looking back at a transformative year—one where I took significant strides toward my dream of becoming the best 3D Environment Artist in the world. From mastering the foundations of texturing to unraveling the intricacies of lighting and composition, 2024 was a year of discovery and monumental progress. 

Skills Acquired: 

Over the past months, I’ve cultivated a diverse range of skills that have shaped my artistic journey and culminated in the completion of two major projects. Each skill represents a stepping stone in my growth as a 3D artist: 

Hard Surface Modelling 

What once felt like an insurmountable challenge is now a source of pride and joy. Hard surface modeling, a discipline I once approached with apprehension, became one of the most rewarding aspects of my journey. Long hours of practice and experimentation helped me understand its nuances, and this skill proved to be the backbone of my final projects. 

Research 

Research emerged as a cornerstone of my creative process this semester. Developing a strong ability to gather, analyze, and apply references has significantly improved my workflow. Tools like PureRef became indispensable, allowing me to consolidate a wide array of inspirations into cohesive visual narratives for each project. 

Feedback and Review 

This semester emphasized the importance of presenting work, embracing constructive criticism, and learning from the insights of others. I’ve always valued feedback, but this structured approach helped me integrate external perspectives into my creative process, enhancing the quality of my work. 

Grounding Ambitions 

“Aim for the sky but keep your feet on the ground” became a vital lesson early in the semester. Overextending myself in pursuit of perfection taught me to set realistic, self-improvement-focused goals rather than striving merely to impress. This mindset shift allowed me to channel my energy more effectively, leading to tangible progress without burnout. 

Sources of Inspiration 

REX Hsu 

A master of hard surface modeling, REX Hsu’s work inspired much of my creative direction, particularly in the second project. His meticulous designs of robots, futuristic pipes, and modular assets set a benchmark for excellence that I aspire to reach. 

William Faucher 

William Faucher’s tutorials on Unreal Engine 5 were a revelation. His in-depth yet accessible guides on topics like lighting and composition allowed me to grasp complex concepts and apply them effectively in my projects. His expertise was instrumental in shaping my understanding of Unreal’s capabilities. 

Video games: Alan Wake 2 

Alan Wake 2 became an unexpected yet profound source of inspiration. While the game’s atmosphere and world-building are awe-inspiring, my fascination zeroed in on the intricate pipe systems. So much so that I earned the nickname “pipe-man” from my peers! The detailed textures and designs of the pipes informed many of my creative decisions, even prompting me to create assets inspired by them. 

Final thoughts: 

As I conclude this blog, I’m filled with excitement and anticipation for the road ahead. This semester wasn’t just about honing technical skills—it was also about personal growth. I’ve developed a deeper understanding of myself as an artist and as an individual. 

Looking ahead to 2025, my goal is clear: refine the skills I’ve gained, push the boundaries of my creativity, and expand my horizons. I aim to tackle new challenges, learn innovative techniques, and further my progress toward becoming the world’s best 3D Environment Artist. 

Here’s to the journey ahead and to the limitless possibilities that await!

The Jester and The Courier: a wild wasteland love

Chapter 5: Crawl out through the fallout.

Hot, oh sweet Sithis it was so FUCKING HOT out. The blistering sun scorched down upon them with such blistering intensity that shimmering waves of heat danced across the horizon. 

It was so sweltering that Cicero’s mouth began to dry and it became hard for him to breath, it was as if the very moisture in his lungs were being evaporated “water…” he wailed “Cicero needs water!”

Myrtle uncapped her trusty Vault 13 canteen and let him guzzle down the cool sweet precious water within “it’s ok buddy just another mile and then we’ll reach Helios One, we can make camp near there”, “why are we camping there?” Gannon pondered, “I need check in with Lunenit Hagerty, see how the panels are doing and if they need any repairs since that Legion hit squad assaulted them last week and tore down the chain link fence, I told Hsu they needed something sturdier than that thing, it’s like defending the place with a wall of wet toilet paper” Myrtle mumbled.

“Especially when they brought a makeshift tank to bulldoze it down” Joshua grumbled, “yhea that was one hell of weekend” Raul laughed, “Just thank God those idiots haven’t figured out how to fix up a Vertibird” Ulysses chuckled, “oh, can you imagine?” Cass snorted “they’d probably crash in 10 seconds”, “10?  A generous estimate there Casidy”, “yhea 5 is more likely” Boone and Gannon laughed.

Myrtle chuckled “well I’ll treat you all to a diner at the Ultra Lux when Legionaries fly”, “I’ll take you up on that, especially now that you dealt with that Mortemer prick” Cass playfully bumped her shoulder into Myrtle’s.

They finally reached their destination, a set of Rocky outcroppings near what looked to Cicero like a spiering Mage’s tower.

It radiated light and emanated with power like the white gold tower back in Cyrodiil, “what is that place?” he pondered in awe, “Helios One, a solar power plant for the whole region, me and Booney helped fix her up a while ago” Myrtle replied.

Finally in the shade of the rocks Cicero observed them all, he was shocked by Raul and Rex the Dog.

Raul was like a draugr, he looked…undead… but could talk, Cicero pondered if he was some kind of lich?

Rex was like Myrtle, a half-mechanical strange breed of dog, Cicero even saw his brain in a glass jar on his head! 

Cicero kind of wanted to pet Rex, Cicero had always loved dogs, he remembered having one as a kid…

Boon and Josua went to take watch on the top of the rocks while Ulysses and Raul made lunch and set up camp with Gannon and Cassidy, Lily was set to watch Cicero with ED-E while Myrtle whent to talk to Hagerty.

Rex sat next to Cicero with his head in his lap, the dog’s metal tail wagging happily, (suspicious blipping noises at Cicero) the strange mechanical orb hummed and tuned, “I know Ed, he’s a freak but Myrt wants to help him” Gannon grumbled, (sarcastic Veering noise), “yes I know you would rather just shoot him…we all would” Ulysses laughed.

It felt all too familiar to Cicero, the sneers and jeers at his expense, reminding him of when he first arrived at Astrid’s sanctuary…  

“Aw come now all of you, be nice to the poor dear” Lily sighed “here I have some sweets if you would like it” she said as she gave him a strange package of candy, it said “Radioactive Gumdrops” on it.

Hagerty was taking a sip of her sunset sarsaparilla when she saw someone coming on the horizon, she looked down her scope and grinned at who it was. “Hagerty! How ya doing!” shouted Myrtle, “better now that you're here, we repaired the wall but some cazadors got in last night, no one died but several of us were stung and our antivenom supply is low” she sighed as she hugged Myrtle.

“Ah, well shit, well I’am heading to doc Usanagi I’ll pick yall up some more and help yall out, I’am camped out with the guys nearby and wanted to check in, how’s the power going?”, “it’s great, just as good as when you left”, “well that’s good, I’ll get on the antivenom problem asap and see if I got any to spare in the meantime” she said as she patted Hagerty’s shoulder and waved goodbye.

“Hit me”, “ok thats…21, you win again Raul” Cass handed him a wad of NCR dollars and a few caps “How are things up there Booney?”, “quite…just the way they should be” he smiled as he and Joshua returned from lookout duty.

“Foods done” Ulysses said as he ladeled up everyone a bowl of stew, “mmm smells good, what did you make it out of?” Cassidy hummed as she took a bite.

“Leftover barrel cactus fruit, prickly pears, potatoes, jalapenos, a bottle of sarsaparilla and some bark scorpion meat, I added some brock flowers and white horse nettles for seasoning alongside some pepper and a pinch of salt” he said to her as scooped up a bowl for himself, “bark scorpion hu? Never thought of using them in food, always thought they were too small to be a fitting meal” Boone chuckled, “better grilled on a sick or used in stews or soups” Ulysses shrugged, “their carapaces are a good source of calcium” Joshua added.

Cicero wasn’t trusted with a fork so Myrtle had to spoon feed him, he HATED this…but he needed to play along until he could get uncuffed…and the creatures they spoke of intrigued him…

“Cicero had never heard of a scorpion before. What is a bark scorpion? Are they dangerous?” he pondered, Myrtle reached over where Ulysses had been cooking and pulled out a strange carcass from a hole, it looked like a bizarre stretched out mudcrab of some kind mixed with a chaurus hunter.

“Radscorpions get much bigger and are way dangerous, surprisingly better eatin too considering their meat is much sweeter and their venom is smoky and tangy rather than citrusy and sweet like the bark one’s are” she said as she dumped the carcass back in the hole, “how do you know what their venom tastes like?” he gawked, why would anyone eat that part of the creature?, “Ruby, a friend of mine in Primm, makes a delicious casserole with scorpion venom in it, as long as you don’t have any sores in ya mouth you can eat it and it’s damn good” she smiled.

“Have you ever eaten mantis legs grilled over honey mesquite pods? NOW THAT is good eaten” Cassidy hummed, “oh now if we're talking good eaten, nothing is better than Brahmin steak” Boone smiled, “oh like a thick juice ribeye cut? Yes now I agree with you” Gannon smiled and gave the sniper a high-five, “I’am partial to iguana or squirrel” Joshua hummed “a kebab with various fixings have always been my favorite”.

 “Pinyon nuts and fruit have always been a favorite of mine, sweet pears grilled with ant nectar on a stick are fantastic” Ulysses smiled, “Escamol, ant egg tacos with some cactus fruit and jalapeno salsa, now that’s good” Raul added as he gave Rex a few strips of gecko meat they had left. “Lily has always enjoyed mole rat, a nice hearty stew with carrots, potatoes and pinto beans mixed in”, “I remember hunting down Lake Lurks with my Ma and making Lake Lurk cakes out of their meat, ah those were good times” Myrtle sighed.

All the talk about food made Cicero reminisce about his favorite meals “Cicero remembers dinner with his family, Nazir would make the Potage le Magnifique from the signed copy of The Gourmet’s cookbook, he’d always add in tomatoes as his secret ingredient” he chuckled, “Nazir is your brother?” Myrtle pondered, “yes it’s just me,Nazir, our little sister Babbet and our Mother” he said, trying to not give too much of the brotherhood away but also using them to perhaps gain sympathy from his captors.

 “Just the poor 4 of us, working a lowly dirt farm” he sighed “I worry about getting home to them, Mother is so weak and sick” he faked tears “what if I don’t make it home to take care of her?!”, Myrtle hushed him softly “it’s ok pal, we’ll get you home…soon as we figure out where that is exactly”.

With dinner finished up it was time to sleep, Boone and Ulysses were on first watch.

Cicero was put into Myrtle’s tent “you're sleeping with me tonight, I wanna keep an eye on you”, Cicero didn’t mind this arrangement, afterall getting rid of her first and taking her metal exploding weapon was his plan. 

She laid next to him and wrapped her arms around him, to keep him from getting away “it gets cold in the mojave at night, better stay close so you don’t catch hypothermia” she said as she held him close.

Cicero was…admittedly…a little distracted by her…

Her body…so close to his, so warm and so heavy, the sound of her electronic heart…beating, beating, beating…

Cicero found it hard to struggle away from the comfy position he was in…

Oh so long it has been since he has been so close to…anyone…like this… especially a woman like this, such power rippling beneath her muscles…

Her soft pale skin though jagged with scars…was…kissed ever so lovingly with freckles, decorating her skin like stars in the sky.

She was so warm, warm…and alive. Cicero sighed, he could barely recount every night he spent cold and alone with nothing but the Night Mother in the Bravil sanctuary, years it was, years…being cold and alone.

But here, here in this tent…there was warmth, there was a heartbeat, there was her…

Cicero could enjoy it…couldn't he?...just for a bit…a short little while before he has to make her grow cold, before he must stop that lovely heart of hers…

Cicero rested his head against her chest…

“A few minutes” the thought “minutes…minutes…min-...mi…” his eyes closed…

Her heartbeat sounded so lovely…

Like a lullaby… 

On the rocks outside, in the pale moonlight and glittering stars…

Ulysses and Boone sat back to back…

“Hey…Boone…”, “yeah Ulysses?”, “...Myrt…Myrt has a stash of drugs” Ulysses admitted, “...I know” Boone sighed, “...”, “...”, “we need to talk to her…it’s not healthy” Ulysses sighed, “I know…but do you know why she has them?”, “sadly no”, “...if we find that out, WHY she’s taking them, then I think we can get her to stop”, “hey Boone”, “yhea?”, “I didn’t tell you this…ok?”, “...ok”.

Rules for Asks and whatnot

Ok, so this is totally my fault for not laying this stuff out at first, honestly I didn’t really think I’d get any asks so there’d be no real reason to make a post like this. Much to my surprise and delight though I am getting asks so I thought I’d lay out a couple of rules. Hmm I don’t really like the word rules here though, so maybe guidelines is better??

Starting off with characters I’ll write for:

Bi-Han (both Sub-Zero and Noob Saibot), Kuai Liang, Smoke, Rain, Reptile, Ermac, Erron Black, Motaro, Reiko and Kollector

Characters I MIGHT write for (if you’re a mutual or lay on the flattery thick enough to the point I start believing I might do an OK job writing these I’ll give it a shot): Johnny, Kano, Raiden, Shang Tsung, Goro, Kintaro ,Baraka, Sektor,, Cyrax, Movado , Onaga

Characters I WON’T write: (these are characters that just aren’t my cup of tea/there are already really good writers out there doing them better than I ever could: All the female characters (with maybe the exception of Frost if she’s interacting with Kuai Liang or something like that), Kabal, Shao Kahn, Quan Chi Jax, Havik, Fujin, Hotaru, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Chameleon, Nightwolf , Stryker Shinnok, Jarek, Kai, Meat, Tremor, Blaze, Bo'Rai Cho, Drahmin ,Hsu Hao, Kenshi, Mokap, Dairou, Darrius, Kobra, Shujinko, Daegon, Taven, Kotal, Kung Jin, Takeda Takahashi, Geras, Scorpion

So, that takes care of characters I’ll write for, as far as asks/prompts I’ll do, I’m not going to answer asks with fictional characters you give me no background for or made up relatives. I will be happy to do reader inserts and your OCs no problem, just let me know what kind of person they are, give me details! I will most definitely do smut, not safe for work/tumblr asks, or just general fluff, what I’m less comfortable with is like romance or angst, that’s not to say I won’t write it, it’s just something I’m not as skilled at and might take longer to post. For generic requests that could be taken multiple ways (like the prior request I had about Noob and his S/O in bed) I’m going to ask you guys to specify if you want smut or not. 

Speaking of smut, I’m happy to write all genders, sexualities, and body types, but I NEED you to specify what you’re OC/reader insert is for me to do a good job with it. If you’re uncomfortable putting it in the ask, just message me, I am a completely judgement free person and will never, ever make fun of/insult or hurt a person just because of things they can’t change. 

As far as smut goes, I’m a 37 year old t-rex, I don’t care what you want me to write I’ll most likely do it, the only things I won’t touch are feet, watersports and scat, they aren’t my thing, if you love it, awesome for you, but it’s just something I can’t get into or do a good job writing. As far as “taboos” go, it’s the internet, I’m a mature human being that realizes just because I write it doesn’t mean I condone it, I also realize they’re fictional characters so who the fuck cares what they do. So feel free to get weird with the asks guys, I want you to enjoy reading them!

Currently accepting requests for: I’m currently only going to write for Bi-Han (Sub-Zero or Noob) or my Self Insert, I just don’t have enough interest to write about anyone else. I’ll do any version of Bi-Han, game, TV, movie, I don’t care which, they’re all amazing. I will do Sub-Zero Bros stuff too but no solo Kuai stuff. I will also happily do Lin Kuei lore asks. Looking through ArtStation yet again, I discovered another artist who has supreme talent in creating mech/transformer stylised models with real precision. You can see that although it is very highly detailed, the artist simply chipped away at a dozen or so cuboids to create this piece. The artist is called Rex Hsu.

TMA2018

「オープニングガラ」

・パクジュンウー 昨年のグランプリ、音とカードがうま��合わさっている。もちろんすごい。

・ワンウェイ＆コゾ 現象は一つで、舞台装置の凄さに負けていた。

・森田智博 コンタクトの技術が高すぎてわろた、動きも綺麗で安定感も凄かった。

・マリオロペス 乳首とれるマジック？が凄かった。ほとんどマジックはせずトークや所作で引きつけていた。マジックを使わずパフォーマンス能力だけでここまで人を沸かせるものかと思う。マジックもやれば世界最強レベルなのだから怖すぎる。

・ジョーダンK ポテチ袋のマニュピレーションに驚く。既存技法も道具を変えるだけで効果がここまで上がるのかと思った。

・マヨーラル 靴のアクト好きじゃないから、期待してなかった。FISMで演技せずにスタンディングもらったエピソードも、演技した時よりも拍手もらってるのではないかと考えていた。本当に本当に反省した。 幕が開いた瞬間、非常に期待させる演出、上から光が降ってきてウォンドに移り帽子から火が出る。その火がディズニー映画そのもの。CGで編集した火が現実に目の前で起こる。蝋燭のパートや火が動くパート、全てで感動。脳みそがねじ切られた。終わったあとは少し泣いた。 光と火の神様でした。

「ステージコンテスト」

・Cao Yang 空中から扇子が出現する。

・前田将太 フェザーと玉、フェザーの出方が非常に綺麗で指を空中になぞるだけで出現する。クラシカルな演技だが現代だから生まれた演技。出る前、出たあとの表情が素晴らしい。

・Tsai Jin-Cheng 三国志？アクト。台湾の民族衣装で演技をしており”あー台湾にきたんだなぁ”と感じていた。その国で生まれ育たなければできないアクトを見れるのは楽しい。前半は掛け軸パート、後半は武器が出てくるパート。武器がでてきて舞う。槍がでてきてエンドポーズは本当に盛り上がった。ちなみに飲み会での人柄もよかった。

・Yang Jie-Wei めぽ一押しのイケメン。蝶がもっと本物ぽかったらよかったと感じた。

・Kim Cheol Gyu 腕時計の演技。姿勢が良く立ち姿が美しい。

・Hsu Shao-Yuan 2015にも出ていた気がする。

・まわりみち ぱわぁさんの傘の刺し方がともさんを殺しにいっている。刺すパートがめちゃくちゃ面白い。抜くパートがグダるイリュージョンが多い中素晴らしいアイデアで中から抜けていく。めちゃくちゃ面白い。最後の脱出後の風船の演出も不思議で素敵。途中花が生えたゴローニャみたいになったり、随所にこの演技でしか見ない演出・構図が見えた。素晴らしかった。

・Shanboy マスク

・Kelvin Cheung ランスバートンのライトの修理人の演技。最初の鳩が鳩にしかみえない。最前列で見ていたが、全ての道具が細かいところまで作り込まれていた。完成度が非常に高い。演技全体めちゃくちゃ面白かったが、最初の鳩の現象が一番面白い。

・Jenny The魔法使いの格好をして、ねるねるしてる。ねるねる釜から若返りの薬が飲むと若返る。途中謎のシンブルパートとたまパートがある。魔法使いとマジシャンが混在している為違和感。魔法使いに統一してほしかった。（魔法使いはトランプやシンブルや玉などを出さない。もっというとトランプや道具の扱いが下手なはず。魔法使いなら。）

・佐々木たかもろ うちのサークルの10年に一人の逸材。演技が終わる頃、あーこいつも社会人になるのかぁと思った。受賞して欲しかったが敵は強い。国際大会に出てくれただけでありがとう。

・MalaJohn いつものアクト。曲チェン前は今回のバージョンが好きだが、変わったあとは以前の方がすき。曲のトラブルがあったのかな？それにあのスピードに気付けるのがすごい。

・Park Hyo-sung パズルの演技。前半のLミノをはめるまでは素敵だったが、後半はまだパズルとリンクしきれていない気がする。

・鈴木大河 アイシャドーにピンク、ガニ股のアピール。一つ間違えたらめちゃくちゃダサくなるのに全てがかっこいい。曲、演出、道具、効果、全ていつも通り素晴らしい。しかし、観客が演技を知っている為か高い演技クオリティにもかかわらず反応がいまいち。

・Chou De-yen バスケ、食事していたら見逃した。私服はMJのシャツにスパーズの帽子だったので、おかしくね？っと思って聞いたらチームはスパーズのファンらしい。一番好きな選手はAI。なんとAIが高校にきたことがあるらしい。どんな学校なんだそれは。日本じゃありえない。さすがLALのスターを排出している台湾だ。めちゃくちゃいいやつだった。

・せがみ 前からTim Linに似ていると思っていたがやっと周りも認めた。

・てつや 観客の反応がやばい。バケツのところや昔からやっているカラチェンが報われた。毎日道具を作っていて、お前は何のために作っていて、何を目指しているのか？といつも聞いていた。全て報われた瞬間を見させてもらった。大学1年の学祭の演技を見た時、こいつはやばい。��げぇのがきたと思ったが、やっと本当にやばいやつになった。秋連の演技もそこまで好きではなく大学1年の演技が一番好きだった。スケッチブックのパートも好きじゃなかった。今回の演技ではスケッチブック、バケツ、カラチェンと全てが調和していた。めちゃくちゃ凄かった。 演技のクオリティ以上にやっぱり観客の反応に驚く。ちょっとうるっときた。

Zhong Ming-Ruei ・てつや余韻のため忘却

Jeon Yong-Seok ・天使っぽい演技。本当はカラスだったらしい。コンテスト後半の韓国人ということで非常に期待したが、その見た目とマテの期待感には答えられなかった。

前嶋くん ・和傘プロダクション。海外コンテストだから和っぽい演技は受けるのではないかと思ったがみんな目が肥えているな。

「インビテーションコンテスト」

JerryWoo ・リングがありえない繋がり方をする。最前列でみてもどのような機構かわからない。肌がもちもちしていてかわいい。

ハンナ ・途中から降ってくる紙が照明とあわさってCGの中にいるように錯覚。肉眼でARの時代がきた。

伊能さん ・ウォンドパートでの歓声や拍手は優しい人の数。そしてその数は台湾は多かった。

村田さん ・めちゃくちゃ進化していた。凄かった。観客がずっと息を呑んでみていた。変なアピールの部分もないので拍手もなく、ため息がもれるかんじ。終わった後のチェイサーではやっと拍手ができるかんじで観客が全力で讃えていた。先輩にこんなすごいひとがいるなんて誇りだ。

Rex ・ミスティックで見た時よりもめちゃめちゃパワーアップしていた。グランプリもなっとくの演技。素晴らしい。

Andy Choi ・スプレーの演技。格好がまず良い。表情も憎めない。手錠が本当に不思議。韓国強い。

Jonioさん ・椅子しかないのがかっこいい。クロースアップとはこういうものだなって感じ。出方も気持ち悪いほどすごい。めちゃくちゃ面白い。優勝はJonioさんかダイススタッキングだと思ってた。

Joad Hsu ・ダイススタッキング。めちゃくちゃ面白い。お客さんとの会話できている感じが素敵。最後のミスのリカバリーが好き。好き。

藤田大和 ・鏡をつかった演技。

ライチさん ・ダイスを転がしてもらい、出た目でカードを当てる。最後は全てのダイスが一つの動作で揃う。野島さんっぽい感じ？？その見た目から今まで話しかけにくかったが、マジックを見せてもらったり素敵な人だった。

Vincent Chang ・なんかよかったような気がする。

Akio ・ルービックキューブ

Choi Sieon ・緑のスポン��をひきちぎるところが好きだった。スクリーン上ではアイパッド上の白い玉が、肉眼でみると色があった。ずっとスクリーンで見ていたので気づかなかった。

「クロースアップガラ」

ボリスワイルド ・キスは好きじゃなかったがバタフライはよかった。

ホレットウー ・中国語がわからないから楽しめなかった。

ハリーG ・中国語がわからないから楽しめなかった。

エリックチェン ・中国語がわからないから楽しめなかった。

さわさん ・まず出てきてびっくりした。レジェンド。レジェンドって昔の栄光でいわれているんでしょ？って思ってました。大変申し訳ございませんでした。 あんな不思議すぎるロープ初めて見ました。日本にもあんな恐ろしいマジシャンがいたとは。ロープやべぇ。すげぇ。握手していただきました。手がプニプニでした。神だわ。

碓氷さん ・ルービックキューブマジックの創始者であり終わらせた人。この人より不思議な人は俺はしらない。ただFISM本戦にすごい人がいたらしいのでそれをみたくなった。とにかく最後の3つのルービックキューブ揃うのやばい。それがレギュラーだという奇跡。

「レクチャー」

サンタさん ・発想がすごい。簡単なギミックを演出で素晴らしいアクトに昇華させている。めちゃくちゃおもしろい。ポーカーデモンストレーションはもうこれ以上面白いのは生まれないと思う。今まで参加した全てのレクチャーの中で上位に入るレクチャーだった。本当に参加してよかった。マヨーラルじゃなくてこっちでよかったと思っている。（マヨーラル参加したら逆のこと言っているかもしれないが。。。。）

「ワンマンショー」

ルイスオルメド ・去年レクチャーで教えてもらった技で驚く恥ずかしさ。マトリックスを泉にたとえながら演技するのはどうやったら発想できるのか・・・飲み会で本人にきいたらI dont knowとのこと。ウッディー並みのショーを期待していたが、そこまでではなかった。人柄、演技ともにすごくよかったのは間違いない。

「クロージングガラ」

池田さん ・恐ろしい司会。本当に恐ろしい。脳みそを完全に溶かしにきている。毎回演技をしてから演者を紹介するのだが、その演技が毎回スタンディングオベーションするレベルなので本当に休めない。もうこれ以上すごい演技をしないでくれって謎の心境になる。神アクト製造機。天才1000人集めてもこの人が一番の天才。

マンホーハン ・最後のグッチのバッグがでる現象が素敵。

ホアンツェン ・衣装チェンが今まで見たきた中で一番美しかった。またシルクがなびいている様子も美しい。ガラにふさわしい素晴らしい演技だった。そしてマヨーラルの奥さんだったというのも衝撃だ。

クリストレンテ ・今まで見た人の中で一番燕尾服が似合っていた。見えない犬と戦う演技。すげー面白かった。

パトリックレーネン ・ピクサーの電気スタンドみたいなやつとずっと演技している。ペンがマジックウォンド設定でペンに当たったものに魔法がかかる。電気スタンドが動くのもそのため。本来CGがなければできない表現を肉眼で見るとこれほど感動が生まれるのかと思う。映画の世界をノースクリーン・肉眼で見れた。

エリックチェン ・さすがグランプリ。これもCGクラスの現象を肉眼で見れることに驚き。ときどき既存の技の香りがする部分を見つけると”あぁ魔法じゃなくてマジックなんだな”と安心を覚える。小池で普通に飲めたのが今では誇り。

リードチャン ・何回目かわからないけど、何回見ても素晴らしい。じつは本の開き方が一番好き。

ジャグラーズビジョン ・深川さん、天平さん、桔梗ブラザーズと各々がスタンディングオベーションを作れる演技を持っている。その人たちが合わさったらどうなっちゃうんだろって期待でいっぱいだった。LEDで長い演技をずっとみれるのはすごい。普通暗いところ光る道具ってすぐ飽きちゃうのに。

ノベールフェレ ・TMA最後の演者。TMAが終わっちゃうから始まらないでくれって思ってた。でも早く見たい気持ちもあった。コメディー部分と演技部分が別れている。玉の演技では初めてFISMってYoutubeを検索した時のことを思い出したりしてた。映像そのままの技術は生で見ると本当に感動した。演技の素晴らしさよりも生で見れたことの感動が強かったと思う。また飲み会でお話させていただいて素敵な人柄で感動した。フランス語がうまいと褒められたのでこれから推していきたい。

感想

素晴らしいコンベンションに参加すると、あぁマジックを好きでよかったと本当に思う。こんなに面白い芸能はほかにないと思うし、それをやっている人口もちょうどいい。世界一の演者と一緒に飲める距離感。その感動を共有できる友人たち。最高だ。

Blog Post 21: Final Projects: END OF WEEK 1 

This blog continues the discussion from the earlier blog, exploring the progress made during the initial week of development for the secondary project. It marks the start of regular updates I plan to share throughout this project, tracking changes, inspirations, challenges, and progress over the next 5–6 weeks.  

Inspired by other creators, I’ve realized how hurdles during the development process and feedback from peers can significantly alter initial plans. Documenting this journey through regular updates will not only keep me accountable but also provide a transparent look at the evolution of the project. 

Inspirations from Industry Professionals 

Finn Meinert Matthiesen 

Finn Meinert Matthiesen’s Jungle Research Compound was a standout inspiration this week. The seamless integration of hard surfaces with natural elements provided a fresh perspective. While my project’s focus is more industrial, elements like railings, structural rims, and cabling from his work have sparked ideas for my generator design. His masterful use of lighting and color motivates me to strive for similar artistic excellence. 

REX Hsu 

REX Hsu’s Sci-Fi Architecture Panel Kit offered another invaluable source of inspiration. The detailed pipes, gears, valves, and turbines showcase exceptional modular design. This modularity is something I aim to replicate in my project, enabling asset reuse throughout the level. This approach not only saves time but also ensures consistency in design aesthetics. 

Challenges and Lessons from Week 1 

Attempting to work on both Castle of Webs and the Frostpunk-inspired generator project simultaneously has proven challenging. The shift in focus between the two projects disrupted my workflow, resulting in time loss and a decline in the quality of work. 

Working on multi-week projects is inherently taxing. Adding another large-scale project to the mix creates a recipe for confusion and fatigue. After reflecting on this, I’ve updated my goals and timelines to streamline my process and focus more effectively. 

Having said that, the following are the few assets that I managed to create this week, for both of my projects. I plan on speeding up the development process in the following week and hope to accomplish a significant progression level for both of my projects. Next week, I plan to accelerate development and make significant strides in both projects. With a clearer timeline and refined approach, I’m optimistic about achieving substantial progress while maintaining high-quality output.

NEWS: NYCSPC Annual Members Group Show.

New York street photographers showcase the art of capturing life in public spaces. 

The NYC Street Photography Collective (NYC-SPC) is hosting its second annual members exhibition from August 23-26 at Soho Photo Gallery in New York City. The show will include the recent work of 22 artists and presents a rare opportunity to view a wide range of contemporary street photography by New York photographers. Prints and other work will be up for sale during the show.

The artists will be present and available for interviews during the reception on Thursday, August 23 with beer donated by SixPoint Brewery.

On Friday, August 24, a discussion panel on street photography will be held featuring acclaimed New York photographers Richard Sandler, Melissa O'Shaughnessy, and Melanie Einzig as well as a book signing with the panelists.

浪漫台三線藝術季，是一場沿著台三線橫跨5個縣市、串連眾多客庄、全長150公里的客家大地藝術季。 面對普遍不了解客家文化的大眾，我們選擇繞過桐花、花布等標籤式的客家元素，以兩個觀點帶領人們看見台三線上客家文化獨有的「慢」：一是你與台三線之間慢熟的愛，二是旅人在台三線上慢下的心。 兩則影像中，《慢的浪漫》以影像詩的手法，由台三線以情人口吻低語，揭開緩慢而有溫度的客家日常。由動態文字演繹出緩緩霧散、日曬、蒸熟、...等，甘願為美好事物慢磨時光的浪漫。《浪費時間指南》則以前往台三線的旅人為主線，推翻關於時間的成見，拆解出年、日、分、秒中的更小刻度，體悟到懂得浪費時間才是真正的珍惜。

Romantic Route 3 is a Hakka Landscape Art Festival that takes place along Provincial Highway 3. It spans 5 counties, stringing together numerous Hakka villages and uniting over 150 kilometers of land rich with Hakka culture.

The general public is largely ignorant of authentic Hakka culture. In facing this audience, we’ve chosen to avoid such stereotypical elements as Tung Tree blossoms and floral-print fabrics. Instead, we’ve opted for two image promo with which to lead you into the uniquely Hakkanese Slow Culture found along Provincial Highway 3.

“Romance of Slow Culture,” skillfully employs poetic imagery recited in whispered tones to reveal the tender, unhurried daily lives of the Hakka people along Provincial Highway 3. Chinese characters move across the screen, telling tales of slowly dispersing fog, of basking in the sun’s heat, of things slowly steamed to perfection, and more. There is romance to be found in a willingness to spend time patiently cultivating the finer things in life.
