Lara Dorren and Cregennan of Lod is a book in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It is one rendition of the tragic story of human mage Cregennan of Lod and an elven sage Lara Dorren.
Love knows no bounds, the saying claims. History knows no better proof of this adage than the romance between Lara Dorren and Cregennan of Lod.
She – a powerful elven Sage, bearer of the Elder Blood, promised to the great Avallac'h. He – a human mage of great talent and humble birth. She – able to live centuries, if not millennia. He – likely to live no more than three score years and ten, like each of us.
They should have hated each other, scorned each other. Instead, they burned for one another with powerful love.
Heedless to the war raging around them, to the condemnations and curses raining down on them from all sides, they led a humble and happy life. Soon Lara was with child. A babe born of Lara and Cregennan might have joined the best of both races, united them at long last. Alas, this was not to be. Humans considered Cregennan a traitor and a renegade. They demanded he abandon Lara – and when he refused, they decided to murder them both. Cregennan died, while Lara, still heavy with child, escaped with her life. She ran to Tretogor, to beg succor and support from Cerro, Queen of Redania. What then came to pass?
Here elven and human sources diverge, presenting two irreconcilable versions. According to the chroniclers of the Aen Seidhe, "...Her pleas did not soften the stony dh'oine hearts, the hearts of merciless and cruel humans. When Lara, pleading for mercy, if not for her, then at least for her child, clutched on to the door of the royal carriage, the queen ordered her maimer to strike with his sword and cut off her fingers. That night, crushed by a fierce frost, Lara breathed her last sigh, on a hill, in the woods, giving birth to a daughter whom she protected with the fading embers of her own warmth."
Human legends, however, have Cerro saying, "Ask not me for grace, ask instead those whom you have harmed with your magic. Brave you were when you wrought those foul deeds, brave be you now, when the pursuit of justice nears. Your sins are not in my power to forgive." In reply, Lara said, "My doom is at hand, but yours, queen, is also nigh. Remember Lara Dorren in that terrible hour, queen, remember her death and her curse. And know that my curse will hound you and your seed, to the tenth generation will it damn your line."
Wherein lies the truth cannot be said. Both versions are surely false, for both seek to blacken their enemy.
Sad is Lara's end – the hate between races which Cregennan wished so badly to end is now so strong that its darkness has forever obscured the truth of her fate.

Hello! For the ask post - Don't ship it: question 3.
Ciri x Avallach
(I don't ship it either but I'm curious) ✌️❣️
Don’t Ship It
To be honest, the relationship between Avallach and Ciri is very ambiguous. There are too many undisclosed details in the game, which is why events can be interpreted in different ways, falling from one extreme to another.
Why don’t you ship it?
Avallac'h doesn't inspire any confidence in me, and I support Yennefer's opinion about him. I don't believe he was just helping Ciri.He was obviously hiding a lot, as Eredin's last words hint at.
I don't like Avallac'h arrogant attitude towards Ciri and his obsession with Lara (Ciri not help him forget Lara, she will always be in her shadow).
Also infuriating is the fact that fans forgive Avallac'h and Ciri the age difference, but Vernon and Ciri do not.
What would have made you like it?
Perhaps if Ciri hadn't been made so naive about Avallac'h in tw3 (it seems to me that such trust in someone who lied to her already is not in her nature)...
Or if Avallac'h have moderated his pride and learned to admit his own mistakes, and not to blame Ciri. And if he stopped feeling disgust for Ciri as a human.
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
At least I appreciate that this ship makes sense, unlike some fighters for morality. Their fans have reasons to love them.
Tumblr media
I also like the parallel Avallac'h/Lara/Cregennan and Avallac'h/Ciri/Vernon...

𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐋𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐃𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐳𝐞𝐣 𝐒𝐚𝐩𝐤𝐨𝐰𝐬𝐤𝐢 (translated into English)
NOTE: This original source for this information is from HERE! I’ve done my best to translate it from Polish into English.
LARA DORREN was a purebred elf, so nothing is known about her place of birth and about her parents - elves do not pay attention to places of birth, and relationships between parents and children are usually - what is very surprising - completely loose and completely unbinding. The mother of LARA was obviously an elf named Shiadhal, because elves - if they at all decide to refer to the parent in their given name - most often use a matronymic - the mother's name.
LARA was a Knowledge (Aen Saevherne), something of the highest elite circle of elven mages. It is not certain, however, whether genetics, training, or some unknown rituals determined being a Knower. This matter has not yet been clarified.
For her romance see CREGENNAN.
After the assassination and death of CREGENNAN OF LOD, being heavily pregnant, she fled towards Tretogor and here she came across the traveling Queen of Redania, CERRO, wife of King VRIDANEK (see "Redanian Dynasty"). Then there was an event of which two versions are circulating:
The Queen replied: "Not for the grace of me, but for those whom she had wronged with your sorcery. She had the courage to commit evil deeds, have courage now, when the pursuit and justice are close. It is not in my power to forgive you your sins." Then the witch argued like a cat, her evil eyes shone. "My doom is near, she cried, but also yours near, queen. You will remember LARA DORREN and her curse again at the hour of her terrible death. And also know that my curse will draw upon your descendants to the tenth generation." Knowing, however, that in the queen's breast a fearless heart beats, the evil elven witch ceased to insult and threaten, scare her with a curse, began to whine like a female dog for help and mercy ...  --- "The Tale of Lara Dorren", the human version.
... but the plea did not soften the stone hearts of Hoine, the ruthless, cruel people. And when LARA, asking for mercy no longer for her, but for her child, she clung to the carriage door, at the royal command the thug-executioner struck the cord and severed her fingers. And when the February frost blew at night, LARA breathed her last breath on the hill into the woods, giving birth to a daughter, who she protected with the last of the smoldering strength in her still warm. And although it was night and winter and sunless weather all around the hill it suddenly came to spring and feainnewedd flowers bloomed. To this day, such flowers bloom only in two places: in Dol Blathanna and on the hill where LARA DORREN AEP SHIADHAL died. --- "The Fairy Tale of Lara Dorren", elven version.
As is easy to guess, it is absolutely not known which of the above versions is true. Most likely, both are lying, both serve chauvinistic propaganda. But does that change what? Where truth dies into oblivion, lies, fiction and confabulation take upon themselves the burden of the chronicler's duty. Thus, each past has an infinite number of versions. Not real.
LARA DORREN was probably buried where she died, i.e. in the forests near Tretogor, the capital of Redania. However, the legend says that the elves took the body of LARA and buried it in secret caves in the famous underground elven city of Tir na Beag Arainne, where the foot of D'hoine - a man - has never stood and will never stand.
LARA DORREN AEP SHIADHAL was one of the most beautiful women of her time, so the following data are preserved:
Hair: light blonde
Eyes: green
Height (in inches): 5 feet 7 inches
Dimensions (in inches) bust-waist-hips: 34 x 21 x 33

Avallach/Ciri/Roche as the new Avallach/Lara/Cregennan?
To be honest... probably not. there are many reasons that make this dynamic quite problematic. First of all, Vernon is not a character from the Witcher saga, he was invented by CD Projekt Red for the games and appears for the first time in The Witcher 2 Assassin of Kings, so he has no canonical relationship or contact with Ciri. In the third part of the games, he helps Geralt in the fight against the Wild Hunt, but we do not find out whether he had closer contact with Ciri during the fight or during preparations.
For a change, Avallac'h appears for the first time in "The Tower of the Swallow" and has real contact with Ciri (which, as we know, results in her being manipulated). After the events of the books in the games, we only see him in "The Wild Hunt", where he spends time with her again, but mainly out of the players' eyes. However, it can be concluded that it was quite a significant period of time during which they had to stay together like it or not.
However, if I had to say which of the two Ciri would choose... objectively, I must say that it would probably be Avallac'h. We know for sure that she spent a lot of time with him, but we don't know what their relationship and attitude towards each other was like while escaping from the Wild Hunt. So one could hypothetically assume that (especially knowing what Ciri was like in the books) something was happening between them
However, as far as my personal opinion is concerned, yes, very much so as much as I wanted to, I don't think I would end up with one of them in the end.

what is your favorite ava books or games?how do you think his relationship with the lara was? I read i thought it was amazing i have some questions about it later
what is your favorite ava books or games?
I don't understand the question.
Book!Ava and game!Ava prefer? I like both, in my opinion they are one and the same, a character growth.
If it's asking about the plot, my favorite is the one where he argues with Ciri, because the moment when the mask of a calm, wise character is removed is always the most dramatically tense. I love watching plots where he explodes emotionally, is vulnerable, angry, and can't control himself.
how do you think his relationship with the lara was?
About this relationship, the original barely mentioned much, so the following are just my thoughts.
They were arranged to engaged because Avallac'h was the most perfect father of the child of Destiny. I don't think Lara ever loved Avallac'h. Even if she did have feelings for him, it was like, respect, or when she met Cregennan she understood what true love was, but it was never Avallac'h's fault.
Lara and Ciri, seagull and swallow, are birds. In my opinion,Elder Blood symbolizes a kind of freedom. Lara was facing the collision of reason and emotion, the struggle of responsibility and desire at that time. I guess she fell in love with Cregennan because she liked herself with him. As the hope of Aen Elle, she could temporarily forget the heavy pressure on her.
Lara, from the beginning, advocated for elves and humans to live in peace, while Avallac'h did not begin to acknowledge the superiority of elves until TW3, so he still had great contempt for humans at the time. This thoughts incompatibility is the key point of their eventual parting of ways, and Cregennan was just a fuse, even without him, I think Avallac'h and Lara would also break up.
Both of them were actually victims in this relationship. From Avallac'h's standpoint, he loved Lara and they were even engaged, but in the end Lara left, carrying a human child, which not only hurt him, but also destroyed Aen Elle's Elder Blood program, a double harm. From Lara's standpoint, pressured to meet the needs of others, against her own wills, who had asked her what she thought?
There is no right or wrong in the matter of relationship, and I think it is very vicious and ridiculous for fandom to satirize Avallac'h because Lara left him.

hi there again (I'm the anon from the Eredin age ask, btw, thank you for the answer!! I like your theory). i wanted to ask one more thing - how did you play around with pairing aen elle with a human? not that I have something against it, hell naw, but I'm wondering whether making Rhan a human was somehow important for your plot, or did you just decide it for no bigger reason?
I like your questions, Nonny! I really do~
~ Also, sorry in advance - this is a long answer. I wanted to make it short, but.. I guess I usually go to far with asks, probably because I’m just too excited, duh.
Okay, first things first - pairing Aen Elle with a human is sick. :”) To some extent, I presume. I would never go for it if not for the canon Lara Dorren x Cregennan of Lod story, because that gives some mild suggestion that, technically, such a relationship is possible. Even more interesting, the romance between them was more bothering for humans than elves, so it’s also a little point for my evil little abomination that I created.
About how it started - I created Rhan (or, actually, loose concept of her) in late 2015 / early 2016 [I started my journey with this universe in September 2015 where I played Witcher 3, and after finishing it I swallowed the whole saga by Sapkowski in less than two weeks]. Fun fact - she was an elf at this point, Aen Elle, actually, with a totally different backstory than what we have now. But me, being me, always digging human x elf / demon / whatever the hell you can come out with relationships - it wouldn’t work, it was too boring for me, so I scrapped that early concept and started nibbling, slowly and lazily, at something new. I think that the first ideas that are actually what Rhan is today started appearing in my head during summer vacations in 2016 (gosh, why am I giving so many pointless details, sorry anon).
Let’s get back on the grid - the main problem I have with Eredin is that he’s one of that characters that doesn’t have much screenbooktime. The whole Tir na Lia plot takes about 40 pages I think, and Eredin has maybe 15 pages in total. It’s not much when we have 5 books + about a dozen or so smaller stories [and Season of Storms, but it came out much, much later]. But what I could pick up was that:
Aen Elle are a fucked up race, and that’s a fact, but, honestly  - 90% of the Witcher universe is either genocidal, racist, or both, or worse,
Eredin is genocidal and racist, and, even more... complicating, the whole "Ciri in Tir na Lia” plot puts Eredin, Avallac’h and Auberon in position of rapists, because putting a woman in someone else’s bed without her permission is rape,
he’s that lovely, dark and highly intelligent manipulative type. :”)
It’s quite a feat, because everyday I get around 3-4 new little ideas for their story, but only 1 at best makes it to the “next step”, because there are many things I have to consider - first is, 98% of soft and fluffly things just won’t work with Eredin. They just won’t, but somehow I’m fine with that, I was never a fluffly-tropes kind of person. Second is, Rhan x Eredin relationship is difficult on every level: the race difference is obvious, but there is also age, for example, and all the time I have this little devil in the back of my head reminding me of the “the old, kinda supernatural being falls in love with a young woman” trope: *cough* Twilight *cough*. The worst thing that could happen is making Eredin OOC somehow. But that’s always the biggest fear when shipping OC x canon, I presume.
So, in order to make myself feel better, in nearly every piece of story with them I write I put that huge doubt, mostly on Rhan’s side, how the hell this could work and her little panic when after some time she realizes where her feelings are going, because while Aen Elle x human might have indeed a chance of happening again, even after Lara Dorren x Cregennan, it’s still wrong on nearly every level. When that Aen Elle is Eredin, it’s even worse.
The very definition of “falling in love” itself also kinda feels weird when Eredin is taken into consideration, imo, so that’s another thing I have to live with every day (but hey, I love suffering, so it’s all good, right).
Moving on - I decided that if this is supposed to work, Rhan should probably be as most non-human human as I can, while still somehow keeping that “humanity” in her, because... If I wanted to de-human her entirely, why not just make her an elf and be done with it? That’s why I decided that while yes, she was born on Skellige and is 100% human, I will put her in Brokilon, make her live and learn from the dryads, and then put her right in the middle of Scoia’tael to give her the deep understanding of elven culture and way of life. The final effect is that while Rhan is human in terms of how she looks like (no diamond-cutting cheekbones in her, baby~) and tends to show a more fiery side of her temperament here and there, she behaves like an elf in about 85% of the case - to make it more “real” I added small headcanon things that could potentially fit elves, at least Aen Seidhe, the way the greet each other, thank eatch other for help, share their emotions etc., so after just a few days Eredin realizes “well, she’s human, but she does not behave like one, and does not move or fight like one”. It’s barely a deal for him at this point, but it’s the first, microscopic step towards moving their relationship onto some normal ground.
Another thing - this relationship could not happen fast. While Rhan is a sorceress and, indeed, has an increased lifespan thanks to magic, she is still a human and the biggest human thing in her is that she perceives time like humans do - every minute, hour, week is important to her, while Aen Elle can wait decades and not be too much bothered by it. So something long and lazy from Rhan’s perspective would be a blink of an eye for Eredin, especially since I stick to that headcanon that he must be at least 300 years old - at this age elves are pretty much done with everything, they’ve seen nearly everything, and they just don’t care that much about time, and they get quite bored with each other (sex-wise, as Avallac'h said to Geralt in Tower of The Swallow).
Though, on the side note, the books heavily suggest that Eredin is, indeed, impatient; something that kinda costed the Aen Elle losing the Elder Blood and Auberon at the same time, because he would probably live if not for Eredin’s hasty attempt to speed things up.
Huh, what else could I say... Ah, right, time. I wanted to mention that I made their relationship take a long time to just go from “you’re just a trophy” to “you’re tolerable” to “alright, I consider you to be a living being and slightly appreciate what you’re doing to Aen Seidhe elves in your world” to “I respect you” to “I would not die for you, but I would kill for you”. I’m still not entirely sure how much time I want it to take, but one decade is an absolute bare fricking minimum. Recently I’m kind of going more into putting it into a span of 20-25 years, actually. And it’s still not that much for Aen Elle elf.
What else... Ah, to figure out how the hell would Eredin even consider taking her alive, instead of killing her on the spot after she got trapped in Tir na Lia for the second time (in case you don’t know - I gave Rhan a highly unstable magic; she can’t create portals, because they always throw her to the place that is full of powerful magic, and doesn’t care for worlds barriers - and Tir na Lia is literally full of it), I went with the very long and tiring chase sequence; Rhan was able to run away for 5 days before she got captured, with barely any sleep available at that time, to kinda give this whole thing a vibe of an exciting (for Eredin, that is) chase, that is something new and interesting after the routine that is unicorn hunting / raiding human villages. The Raven Haired Bastard managed to be slightly, just sliiightly impressed by how long she was able to play this game, slipping from his riders by mere inches. Slightly. But that’s already some kind of a start to make it at least somehow believable. At least for my mind and my imagination.
And yes, I know he chased Ciri as well, but in her case it was a matter of life and death, because Eredin needed her blood, it was a matter of survival of the whole race, not chase for fun. In case of Rhan, it's more of a free-time challenge, a hunt for a difficult, but not that important prey. Aaand I don't like Cirilla, but that's another thing, yikes
... God, it was not supposed to be this long, I’m sorry. I just couldn’t make it shorter. And there are still probably things that I would like to mention, but just can’t think about them right now.

Moral of the story is - I dig complicated, dark and difficult relationships. I always go for them. Well, in 99% of the case.

OTP Game!
Pick your top 10 OTPs without reading the questions.
Okay so, once again, I was tagged by the lovely @advena87 to participate in this shipping war against her armies, and once again, I decided to fill in as book-content-y as I can. So here I have my picks! Absolutely not all of them, but it was hard as it is to take only 10 xD May I present you... My armada:
1.  Lara Dorren & Cregennan of Lod   2.  Ciri & Galahad 3.  Yennefer & Geralt   4.  Milva & Baron Amadi   5.  Agloval & Sh'eenaz   6.  Filippa & Triss   7.  Mousesack & Sigrdrifa   8.  Calanthe & Eist   9.  Emhyr & fake Ciri   10. Esterad & Zulejka
Also, be warned, my answers may contain enormous spoilers from the Witcher Saga! OK without further ado let's dive into the questions!
1. Do you remember the episode/scene/chapter that you first started shipping 6?
Yes, I was quite upset. Yennefer was basically begging Filippa to help her out and save her reputation if only before Geralt, but Filippa refused. Triss was also present in her nightgown, spending some quality time with Filippa, begging Yennefer for forgiveness.
2. Have you ever read a fanfic about 2?
Sadly no, but to be completely fair, I haven't even looked yet.
3. Has a picture of 4 ever been your screen saver/profile picture/tumblr screen saver?
Unfortunately no, this is not a very popular ship to find any materials to.
4. If 7 were to suddenly break up today, what would your reaction be?
Yeah well, they are not canon at all, I just like to think they grew up together and were caring about each other even when they were apart. If they were to suddenly break up, I might actually start to think that nothing matters anymore. Not the years, not the dedication, not the soundless caring they bear for each other. Nothing.
5. Why is 1 so important?
That ship is basically what started the millennia long fights, wars, revolutions and hatred between humans and elves. Also this is where Ciri's bloodline is originating from.
6. Is 9 a funny ship or a serious ship?
I think that is a ship that is based on fear from fake Ciri's side, and bitter victory from Emhyr's side. But I fondly believe that they will come to love and respect each other. So definitely a serious one.
7. Out of all the ships listed, which ship has the most chemistry?
Calanthe & Eist, definitely. If you now, you know.
8. Out of all your ships listed, which ship has the strongest bond?
I think it has to be Yennefer & Geralt
9. How many times have your read/watched 10’s fandom
I don't think they have a fandom? Esterad & Zulejka shippers, speak up!
10. Which ship has lasted the longest?
I think it was Yennefer & Geralt, although they were cheating with their prolonged lifespans.
11. How many times, if ever, has 6 broken up?
I'm not sure? Once, possibly, but only if Triss finally realised she was only being used.
12. If the world was suddenly thrust into a zombie apocalypse, which ship would make it out alive, 2 or 8?
My bet is on Calanthe & Eist (8)
13. Did 7 ever have to hide their relationship for any reason?
I believe skelligers are quite chilled with their relationship. I'm not sure about mousesack though, he's been to Cintra for years, I'm pretty sure there's been times he just brushed off the fact he's in love with someone in favour of serving Calathe, Pavetta & Ciri.
14. Is 4 still together?
No :'( Not after they parted in Toussaint. We all know what happened to Milva after Toussaint.
15. Is 10 canon?
Pretty much. Not a very popular one, but canon for sure.
16. If all 10 ships were put into a couple’s Hunger Games, which couple would win?
Yennefer & Geralt would probably come first xD
17. Has anybody ever tried to sabotage 5’s ship?
Yeah well, it was quite the journey to begin with anyway, since Sh'eenaz is a siren and Agloval is a prince, and none wanted to give up their lifestyle for the other. I'm almost certain there also were people who disapproved of them.
18. Which ship would you defend to the death and beyond?
1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10.
19. Do you spend hours a day going through 3’s tumblr page?
Oh yes I do. Individually & together too.
20. If an evil witch descended from the sky and told you that you had to pick one of the ten ships to break up forever or else she’d break them all forever, which ship would you sink?
I would let Milva & Baron Amadi go. they're so soft and fluffy together, they have been so happy together, but Sapkowski went and did the job for us, so they're kinda sunken already.
HEY thank you very much for bearing through this canon mess with me again, I hope you enjoyed it if even a little bit. Feel free to fill in yourself and don't forget to share the results with me!

All the unanswered questions about the Aen Elle, Avallac'h and especially Lara, with some personal speculations
Avallac'h seems to have 100 years more than Lara at least. If so, he could have been in the project meant to "create" her and maybe he tutored her, as well. I admit this would make him a little more creepy than he already is, poor guy lol
It’s unclear whether the Aen Elle used the unicorns to create the Elder Blood or they achieved the results with their own genes alone. Still, this can explain why the unicorns are hostile with them.
The Aen Elle approached the unicorns with deception or with some covenant that they betrayed later, probably because they were in a hurry: Ithlinne’s prophecy began with the slaughtered of the Aen Seidhe on Geralt’s world. Considering they are all fucked up fatalist hypocrites, I like to think they did it because they believed that they needed to do it as soon as possible, at any means.
I like to think the full scale humans genocide on the Aen Elle world happened after Lara was killed by human hands, too, because it could be a good explanation. Probably the Aen Elle hate for humans, and Auberon and Avallac’h especially, grew bigger after that event. I mean, I can only imagine Auberon’s grief.
Avallac'h and Lara relationship was never properly explained. She didn't like him enough to marry him, but there is no reference that make us think she disliked him or that they weren't friends. Avallac'h wanted to talk with her ghost and he was sure she would answer him. There was no enmity at least in his point of view. but his pov is what it is?
In the same way, we don’t know how Lara was dealing with the Aen Elle during her relationship with Cregennan. Did she leave them behind or was she trying to make them see reason? Or did they believe in her, and vice versa, despite what she was doing? So many questions, because it doesn’t seem to me that she got away from them indefinitely or that they weren’t supporting her.
Avallac’h’s point of view on Lara’s relationship with Cregennan is very controversial: he knows and maybe is even grateful that she was really happy and in love with him, but at the same time he claims that “Cregennan stole her from him" (it would make more sense if he actually alluded to her death, but it doesn't seem so). BUT, the way he spoke about elves' sexual desires with Geralt made me think there is a part of him that thinks, or wants to believe, that Lara’s infatuation was a phase, and so he was accepting it as that: a phase. He was kind of waiting for her to came back to him in the future (and this would make the "steal her from me" part at least a little more bearable, although still very ugly). This shit may be supported in the game with the legend of Gealbhan and Dillian of the White Fleet: Avallac’h seems to relate to Gealbhan during the story quite a lot.
Avallac'h is the cerebral type that believe duty > personal feelings and thus that means justify the ends, but we know for sure that Lara was the exact opposite: idealist, stubborn, genuine and emotional. She ditched not only him, but the Aen Elle as a whole and with them the entire elves salvation just because she was in love. Ewww, Lara. But at the same time there aren't Aen Elle that criticized her for that or paint her as a traitor, even if we don't include Avallac’h in all this because he is totally biased. Everyone seems to love her, or at least respect her and her choices. How is this possible? This could support the fact that she was still in good terms with them.
And speaking of this, Avallac'h is buried in his concept of duty to the point that he depersonifies every person he talks about, even those he cares for (like Lara). He has almost never talked about Lara without talking at the same time about destiny, duty and prophecies, but he loves her so much it’s obvious he admired her for her behaviour (behaviour that Ciri shares by the way), despite her behaviour was exactly why she didn’t fulfill her duty. Lara was a rebel, and a very good-natured person. It’s funny to think Avallac’h has a weak spot for this kind of personality. Really makes me think, tbh

Note
do you think lara liked Avalach?
Thank you for the Ask. 🌹
Hard to say as there's very little mentioned about their relationship in the original material. I can only guess based on Ava's obvious deep love and affection for her, that there must have been at least some feelings from her side in the past as well (before meeting Cregennan of Lod). One as intelligent and as perceptive like Avallac'h would most probably not evolve such strong feelings towards a person that would not care about him.

Aight let’s have some fun;) It’s not really a tag game, this is just me booping at you @xuelingxu @tio-trile @jawanaka @andordean @nananarc @wholelottatiffy @frances-the-red @ro-the-bard-writer @luciferian-herbivore if u r interested:)
First as a Fan: Do you know Geralt/ Jaskier(Dandelion) is the most tagged relationship in Witcher fanfics on AO3? (Ofc haha) Second goes to Geralt & Jaskier(Dandelion), and Geralt/ Yennefer comes in a whooping third xD
Tags related to Lara Dorren, our MacGuffin that started it all, shows: 14 fics with Avallac’h/Lara tag; I always find it interesting that fandom favors (at least shows more interest) in their relationship, not the one she stayed in until the end. Comparing that to only 8 works tagged with Lara/Cregennan, of which 3 are my own 😂, one by dear @dclcq , who depicts both of Lara Dorren’s relationships well in Games with Eternity (recommend if you are interested in elves; I love it even though ironically I am not interested in elves)
Do you know V from Cyberpunk 2077 has two possible birthdays? V identifies as female is born on October 12, 2049, V identifies as male is born on June 10, 2049. So Libra ♎️ or Gemini ♊️? Maybe could be used to explain the differences in the voice actors’ performances; they def sounded distinctive from each other to my ears, not just same person with different voices.
As Creator: long long ago in the year 2019, I had some scrapy wisps of scenes in my head and I wrote a story trailer, The Magic Mirror, the Snow Queen, and the Red Riders, supposed to be one abt Lara, from her perspective. When I started writing in 2020, instead of having multiple POV I settled on only Cerro’s POV; in hindsight, I think it’s not the best choice, especially given my limited ability on creating a logical political landscape, and it dragged down the pace in the beginning. But I am telling it in one of the ways I feel most suitable for a certain idea in the fic, so I guess it’s worth it.
My only Cyberpunk fic (so far), a Takemura/ corpo V (you) one-shot, stages in a rundown motel, but the first idea came to me with them sitting outside the platforms by Clouds. This was the original opening:
The sky above is the same roiled color as the city carnal that ran from Del Coronado Bay to the belly of Night City. Commercial shuttles tally across the sky, hundred-feet-high holo ad rolls over giant Mr. Studd's bronzed chest, slick with desire, mass-produced and under-fulfilled, promise implemented with another promise and add-on of Version 3 free upgrade. Underneath the never-ending holo scroll, your bleary eyes pick up that corpo logo, the altar in front of which you’d been burning incense for much of your scanty little life — last life, anyway — before they snuffed out your meager hope like they almost snuffed out your life.
Arasaka looks down at you from sky-high. Red on a field of black; this is the penetrating flame that scourges without needing any pretense of the night. Beautiful. Indifferent. A beast of its own device.
You look to your left, you know the man — this man — is also looking at that. But to him, that symbol is still everything. What he has left to protect, even with his own life.

Trivia Tuesday
Creators: give a “behind the scenes” look at one of your works. This could be things that got removed or changed, the origins of ideas/details, whatever you like!
Fans: share bits of trivia from canon and challenge others to create something based on that trivia - fic, art, or something else! I once made a crossword puzzle :)

IMPORTANT OTP FIRST QUESTIONS for Lara and Creg of course
For this, I’m going to write this as if they ended up living a life together and weren’t killed because WE ARE CANON DIVERGENT TOWARDS THAT PART OF CANON. IT HURTS SO BAD.
-Who holds the others hand first?: Surprisingly, Cregennan. Despite Lara's stubborn nature, she was spending it trying to hold herself back, causing him to take the first step.
-Who initiates the first kiss?: Lara! *all of Aen Elle gasps*
-Who asks the other out for the first date?: Both actually. They find an excuse to spend time together saying it's 'important business.' Either with Lara saying she wants to spend more time with the Aen Seidhe or Cregennan working on his efforts for coexistence.
-Who says ‘I love you’ first?: Lara...it even surprises her herself. It just kinda sneaks up and comes out when she least expects it, causing her to go "wow, do I? OH SHIT, I DO!"
-Who’s ready for marriage first?: Both, although Lara was practically raised to expect it from the start. However, Cregennan doesn't push anything or expect anything with her and she respects him for that.
-Who wants kids first?: Both, though maybe Cregennan a little more. Lara is actually nervous to have kids despite it being her 'destiny' to do so. I even have this headcanon that she was really nervous with realizing she was pregnant with Riannon, and it wasn't just because of how the Aen Elle would react, but because of terrible visions she had been having which only grow until she gives birth to her.
-Who’s the first to break down because they’re going to be parents?: Lara. 1000%. Cregennan is there to comfort her and promise to protect her and the child no matter what. *CUE ME CRYING FROM FORESHADOWING HERE*
-Who’s the first to cuss in front of the baby?: Lara.
-Who’s name does the baby learn first?: If they both lived...honestly, I'm not sure. Maybe Lara’s cause it’s so easy.
-Who’s least ready to let their kids grow up?: Cregennan. I mean...Riannon is his baby girl and if had lived to see her, I bet he’d be the most clingy of them.
-Who cries when the kids leave?: Both equally, but it really hits Lara the most because elves are used to being around their parents for as long as they live. She understands them needing their space, but yet...
-Who makes tea for the other because they really shouldn’t be getting up so much anymore?: Cregennan cares for Lara like this when she is pregnant. However, as time goes by, and if Cregennan had lived to an old human age, it would be Lara taking care of him. It’s no burden on her either. She loves him after all.
-Who teases the grandkids most?: Both.
-Who spoils the grandkids most?: Both.
-Who insists on doing even the most simple of tasks for the other because they’re both growing so old and they really need to rest?: Lara still because although she may be ‘old’ in elf terms, she still has tons of energy, strength, and looks like she hasn’t aged a day compared to Cregennan.
-Who dies first?: Who do you THINK?! *cries* Even if he lived, it still would have been Cregennan first. When it happens, of course Lara is heartbroken and grieving, but at least they had a full life together...at least in human terms. I mean, Lara’s father lives to be 650. Imagine if Lara lives longer than that!

𝐋𝐚𝐫𝐚'𝐬 𝐮𝐩𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐞𝐧 𝐄𝐥𝐥𝐞
(Aka another reason that led to her decision in being with Cregennan of Lod, marking the most controversial relationship in history.)
The Aen Elle have lived a certain lifestyle for centuries. Important things to note about them are:
They are a race capable of space-time traveling abilities, long before the Conjunction of Spheres, which screwed it all up for them.
Because of this, there are very few Aen Saevherne that still have the ability to travel between worlds.
The Aen Elle live on a different world, not part of the continent.
Genetic matchmaking is a common and normal thing among the Aen Elle.
Because elven women are fertile for a short amount of time their youth, but elves are immortal, procreation is an important deal for them (especially with the fact they have been losing elves in numbers due to humans killing them.)
Children are precious to the elves and some family bonds/relations may be loose or may not be.
The Aen Elle mostly have a scorn for humans and do some pretty terrible things to them (see The Wild Hunt)
The Aen Seidhe are cousins/kin to the Aen Elle, except they are trapped on the continent. They want to rescue them, but have no means to right now.
Now, what exactly applies to Lara and her upbringing in all this and how does it affect the narrative? Lara is:
The result of a genetic potential many years in the making, possesing Hen Ichaer aka Elder Blood, from which a Child of the Elder Blood is prophecised to save the elves from annihilation, mostly by opening a big enough portal to send them all to another world.
From a young age and as a Princess of the Aen Elle, Lara is expected and taught to follow her people’s traditions and carry on the bloodline, eventually bearing an even more special child one day.
While she does follow in her father’s footsteps of becoming an Aen Saevherne, she pretty much tries to defy everything else, hiding a tranquil fury of rebellion within her.
Despite caring for her people, this is one choice Lara wants to feel she has a say and control over. And it only blossoms more when she comes across Cregennan of Lod, who allows her to be herself, causing her to fall in love with him, choosing to have a child and to leave her old life behind.
Of course, it was a major controversy between both races (humans angry that an elf bewitched a human, and the elves feeling Lara Dorren was stolen from them), but Lara and Cregennan believed one day elves and humans could start to live and work together in peace.
If Lara’s gonna die someday, she’s determined to go out making her own choices and living her life the way she chooses. *drop mic*

HC: REPUTATION
It has occurred to me I never wrote about the impact Valathaan’s love for Gwendolen, a human, and indeed, his relationship with humans in all, had on him and how he is viewed and accepted. Given the less-than-amicable relationship between the two races--the Aen Seidhe (elves) and the dh’oine (Man)--I thought it important to note.
Valathaan is not always regarded in a positive light.
When he fell for Gwendolen, it was still when the two races were relatively unknown to each other--they knew of each other, but largely kept to themselves. The Aen Seidhe saw Men as barbaric and violent, even likened them to apes. When Valathaan fell for one? It was something of an outrage. When the elven massacre of Loc Muinne happened, though, and he ran off with her, that “frowned upon” turned into a barrel of salt to an open wound.
And who’s to blame them for that negative opinion when (1) the Aen Seidhe already had poor opinions of Man; (2) the elves of Loc Muinne were murdered even though, a few years back, the sorcerers/sorceresses among them had taken human children in as students; (3) their kind were being killed wholesale, to extinction, despite having educated Men and giving them technologies; and (4) as the centuries rolled on, more and more of their cities fell, taken by the greed of Men. Valathaan having chosen to run off with a human was seen as having turned his back on them. He was even aware of this, and it was for this reason he did not return to his home even after she’d passed.
But, sure, there was some saving grace. Valathaan did return to fight beside his people in the sacking of Aedd Gynvael. Valathaan ferried survivors to Dol Blathanna, one of the last free elven refuges, and even roamed the land leading non-humans to safe havens and warning them of nearby human settlements.
That wasn’t enough, however. And soon, those who forgot his past would be quickly reminded of it.
When the story of Lara Dorren spread, like a wildfire the hatred between man and elves erupted into an all-out war. In the story, it is said that Cregennan of Lod, a human mage, was murdered for having an elven lover, and when Lara pleaded for the life of their unborn child, she was cut down by humans and left to die, bleeding on a snowy hill. She reserved whatever strength she had to give birth. Then perished. Of course, the dh’oine tell a different tale that paint themselves in a more favorable light, but regardless, this point in history fueled a hostility between the two races that only reminded Valathaan’s people of his relationship with a human. In Dol Blathanna and the Blue Mountains, often times, he was ignored or openly spurned. He was insulted, and to some, an outcast. Others disregarded him enough that when he suggested they leave the mountains for more fertile lands, they thought never to follow a lover of humans. In fact, in contempt, they even suggested he be kicked out to live among the bloodthirsty race of Man. He was fortunate, though, because had he been ousted and his relationship exposed to the dh'oine, he would have been persecuted. Executed. The rejection, scorn and harassment from some of his own people, he could at least survive.
In the opinion of the Scoia’tael and young elves inclined to join the Scoia’tael, he’s not with them, but with Man. That fact that he still wears Gwendolen's hair comb every day is seen as a testament to that. The fact that he pleaded with them not to fight alongside Aelirenn was regarded as defending the dh’oine. The fact that he decided to live in Caed Myrkvid beside druids, many of them human, further cemented their belief, and the fact that he even aids lost or wounded humans and considers any of them “innocent” is blasphemous. Of course, his open disapproval of the Scoia’tael doesn’t earn him any of their good grace. Many even regard him as "just as bad."
To plenty of his kind, Valathaan is redeemed because of all he’s done for them. His human love was long, long in the past, and it seems inconsequential. To others, however, with an undeniable hate for Man, he is not. They spurn him for his relationship, detest that he “chose” a dh’oine over them, and hate that even after all these years, he still so visibly loves her and doesn’t find shame in it. Some even refuse to listen to any of his advice or teachings. However he is viewed, though, there is always the thought that he did sleep with a human...
To his credit? At least he never had a child with her.
Whatever one thinks of him, his reputation and history cannot be denied.

Note
I'm always happy to see your thoughts. 😃
1. Subtly mocking sense of humour? Absolutely. Among all the characters, his lines are the greatest. "You, no. Me, naturally." An attitude of despising you for granted, and you can't be angry, because indeed only he can do it. Can I say that I just like to refute/provoke/despise the protagonist's role? XD
For me, the most interesting thing is that when he went through a life and death escape with Ciri, he also suffered a lot. He began to become acknowledge his superiority over other races. I especially like this change. It feels like a superior person has to condescend to make some changes to deal with reality, yet this change is also a kind of growth for him.
2. I SO love your answer. For me, Ciri, Ciri and Ciri ONLY. Because they are meant to be.
3, Your headcanon of his mistress is quite novel, first time I've ever seen that idea. You mean her status as both a member of his family (to keep him from drowning too much in the grief of losing Lara) and his mistress? I totally agree with "I really prefer it over "2D love interest has no personality except to be a jealous bitch at the main character"." Of course, her storyline was cut, so maybe that's why her portrayal was weak. I think a supporting character who is just used to set up the main character's feelings is a complete tool, which is uninteresting and unpleasant too.
4. I totally agree with your "unpopular opinion" because I don't think Lara loves him at all. Even if she had feelings, they were simply like and respect. They may have loved each other, but that ended when Lara met her true love, Cregennan.
I think another reason for his grief of losing Lara, besides his obsession with her, is his inability to admit his failure. Even though there is no right or wrong in relationship matters, I think it is a failure in his eyes. He is still very angry at Cregennan for "stealing" his Lara and not facing the fact that it was Lara who fell in love with someone else (who might never even loved him). Putting himself in Lara's shoes, he's a creep. Maybe Lara thought he should be happy for her that she finally found her love if he really cared about her.
5. I regret this point too, and I even regret the lack of those stories from when they were on the run together. Because of this gap, people can not understand why their attitudes and feelings have changed. But this also has the advantage that this lack can facilitate the creators to continue to write their stories. And, in my opinion, the good ending of cirillac'h does exist in the fan creations. CDPR will not blatantly continue their story, they will only use the handicraft which a fox followed Ciri to suggest their relationship.
Character ask game: Avallac'h?
How I feel about this character
I'm absolutely weak for older men who are complete nerds but also have a deadpan/subtly mocking sense of humour.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Ciri, Ciri, and Ciri.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Honestly? I headcanon that his mistress is actually his overprotective older half-sister* and in my head they get along really well as long as the subject of Lara or her bloodline aren't brought up. In my head they have the same mother but different fathers, and she always looked out for him and tried really hard to get him to accept that Lara Just Wasn't That Into Him. He fell into a deep depression and it was partly because of his sister that he was able to -- well, not quite come out of it, but become functional again.
But I have so much headcanon with these two and with how the Aen Elle work in general.
I also headcanon that he's very close to his father, and that Caomhan was even more involved in keeping him afloat after Lara's death.
* The implications that she's his mistress are pretty clear, but I think it's also plausible for her to be a family member who's keeping an eye on him because "oh no he's obsessing over Lara AGAIN I better make sure he's okay" and I headcanon that because... honestly, I really prefer it over "2D love interest has no personality except to be a jealous bitch at the main character".
My unpopular opinion about this character
I think he's a total creep where Lara is concerned and don't feel sorry for him at all. Lara was not interested. It's been centuries, it's about time he got the fuck over her instead of trying to reach out to her even after she's died.
I don't hold it against him for being hurt by what Lara did, or devastated by her death, but Jesus Christ, Avallac'h, let the woman rest in fucking peace and learn to handle your fucking feelings.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I wish Ciri got closure with him. It feels like that subplot was abandoned partway through -- Ciri finds the lab, becomes furious at Avallac'h, and then...
And then we never see how that turns out. He never admits if he loved Ciri, or if he was using her from the beginning. He never admits if he came to love Ciri, or if he just projected Lara onto her. There's hints here and there that he and Ciri had arguments afterwards (we walk in on them after they've had one hell of a row at one point), but it clearly never gets resolved.
I know that's how life goes. But I'm sad that we never saw that, never saw if he and Ciri got sexually/romantically involved or almost did, never got to see if they were ever able to be honest with themselves and each other.

How Avallac'h actually feels about Cirilla?
Many people claim that Avallac'h only saw Lara in Ciri, or claim that he only used her as a tool. Is this really the case? I don't think so. I have read the original, played the game and now I want to write down my thoughts. I know that maybe few people will probably want to read through this essay, but I'm writing it anyway. Because, I think the relationship between them is complex and interesting and the more I explore it the more I like it. They deserve an essay of such analysis.
First, let me analyze Avallac’h’s feelings for Ciri in the original.
His feelings were not expressed particularly obvious in the original, so I could only make some guesses here based on the plot. But I can be sure that his feelings for Ciri was very complex, and could not simply be summed up "hate".
“...The Swallow can fend for herself brilliantly, she carries power within her to make everything fear her. So, your help is unnecessary. And thirdly… Hmmm…” “Thirdly… Thirdly, someone else will help her now. I hope you are not so arrogant to think that this girl is only associated with your destiny.”
Avallac'h debuted in ‘the Tower of the Swallow", where he warned the witcher Geralt to stop trying to take risks to save Ciri, which were worthless. He very clearly implied that the destiny of Ciri was also associated to him (Aen Elle) in addition to Geralt. Although Ciri was the generation of Lara and Cregennan, the elven blood mixed with dh'oine blood, but he believed that Ciri belonged to the elves. She should also return to the origin of the Elder Blood, the community of her ancestor Lara-the Aen Elle. The symbol of Swallow was new life, and she was also the only possibility to lead the elves to victory over the prophesied White Frost. His thoughts here may be limited only to the hope that Ciri’s ability to through time and space would once again return to the Aen Elle. But he definitely didn’t think of Ciri as a common dh'oine, he inwardly considered her an Elven child.
"Anyway," the dark-haired elf said in a mocking tone, "I can see something special about this little Dh'oine. I can see and recognize her value. It's like finding a gold nugget in a pile of dung. " Ciri's eyes flashed with anger. Avallac'h turned his head slowly. "You talk," he said slowly, "like a dh'oine, Eredin."
He said, "If you ask me, it's more like a pearl in a pig's dung, a diamond in a rotting corpse's finger. "
"You speak our language very fluently, yet it is still a foreign language to you." "I understand what you say. Every word is understood."
Avallac'h had never insulted Ciri. He never despised her for the differences that set her apart from their Aen Elle.
Both Auberon and Eredin had made disparaging remarks about her, and he had never made any negative comment about her appearance. He could see the shadow of Lara in her when everyone thought she had only few elven features in her. He even spoke out in her defense when Eredin belittled her. In his eyes now, Ciri was not a mere dh'oine, she was the carrier of the Elder Blood, she was Lara's daughter, she was the Aen Elle(his)'s hope, no matter who could not speak out against her.
Another point, while the other elves spoke Ellylon, which Ciri did not understand, to humiliate her, he always spoke to her in Hen llinge, which she understood. He affirmed her ability and did not despise her for it.
"Indeed you should not have." The elf's tone grew serious, "Auberon respects you and treats you as a fellow Aen-Elle.”
"I suppose you," said Avallac'h, changing his face, missing his usual calmness,"didn't say anything like that to him?"
"I didn't say anything. As much as I wanted to."
"Be careful. You don't know what you're risking."
When Ciri mentioned Auberon's disgust for dh'oine and discrimination against her, Avallac'h educated her seriously and angrily. He was afraid that after these words were heard by Auberon, he would simply refuse to have children with her. Thus, his plan was broken, and she has only one way to go, which was to go to his laboratory. Although Ciri was forced to have a child with her own grandfather, this path was already the least harmful for her. If she went to Avallac'h's lab, she would have suffered a lot of torture and he's doing everything he can to avoid that.
“You are worthy of being her daughter, and I will not let you take away even the memories of her with you."
He walked up to her and embraced her."I've forgotten." He said gently, "Don't ever mention it again."
When Ciri suggested that Avallac'h himself to fuck her , he emotionally exploded for the first time and almost strangled Ciri. This was the ironclad proof that people love to say he hated her, so let's explore it. Why were he so angry?
In fact, as Lara's fiance, he should have been the father of this "destiny child", so Ciri's best bed fellow should be him. But now he tried everything to make this object into Lara's father. Why?
Because he thought that his Lara's characteristics were inherited from Auberon, thus he expected this child to become Lara 2.0. But he was wrong, he increasingly saw Lara in Ciri. He didn't really need to expect that child anymore, because the ready-made one was right in front of him. An imperfect stand-in. But this discovery made him begin to fear, and even reject extremely. So when Ciri raised the possibility, he became irritated.
The reason he rejected Ciri was not because Ciri was a dh'oine, but "I won't let you take away even the memories of her!" This statement made it clear that if he slept with Ciri, he would forget/be confused about Lara and lost the memories of Lara, and more crucially, he knew that he could successfully sleep with Ciri even without aphrodisiacs-he could get an erection on her. He may have predicted all this so he would try to make Auberon and Ciri have children, he was afraid so he would be directly annoyed after Ciri broke his mask to poke his heart out.
So he choked her, not just because he hated her.  On the contrary, he was angry because he had discovered that he could actually think of Ciri as a stand-in for Lara; angry because he had been poked by Ciri at his own hidden thoughts. That was all because he saw Lara in her, he couldn't outright hate her, he had special feelings for her. This feeling was very complicated, love-hate. Noticing her because of Lara, and hating her because of Cregennan. Not just simply hate.
This quarrel ended with a unnecessarily mild hug, interesting! I guess he regretted it a bit when he choked her.
"Because if it weren't for me, the only thing you could have chosen would have been Avallac’h and his lab. Go there and give yourself over to another possibility - and you don't even understand what that means."
Ciri should actually have a total of three options.
sleep with Avallac’h
sleep with Auberon
go to Avallac’h’s lab for artificial insemination
In one of them, he directly rejected the first option by saying that he "can't let her take away his memories of Lara". The third option was more damaging to Ciri, so he largely dismissed it too, and never even mentioned it to her. The second option, on the other hand, was less damaging to Ciri and could potentially lead to a Lara 2.0, which was why he did his best to push it forward. This was the main reason why he forced Ciri to have a child with Auberon.
The original plot about Avallac'h ended abruptly here, and his feelings for Ciri can be summarized as follows in my opinion.
She was the hope of the Alder, the blood of the elves, and she must return to the Aen Elle, return to where she was meant to be.
He saw Lara in her, but he was afraid and rejected this association.
He disliked her rudeness, narcissism and arrogance, and other typical dh'oine "bad personalities".
It is true that book!Avallac'h does not have deep feelings for Ciri, but it is by no means just hatred. People like to criticize him and their relationship just by virtue of the original plot, claiming he only always saw Lara in Ciri. They just totally ignore the whole game plot. From the beginning of the original to TW3, according to the game timeline, the two escape for almost two years. (Not counting the inconsistency of time dimensions in different worlds) It is very normal for the thoughts and feelings of the two to change during this period. And in the game, many positive or side depictions make me very sure that he has definitely developed some feelings for her!
Okay, next let's analyze the game plot!
TW3 was a game that continued the plot of the original "Witcher". Both of Ciri and Avallac'h's  personalities in the game had transformed considerably compared to the original, which we could see as a kind of character growth.
In TW3, the Aen Elle world may be destroyed because of the threat of White Frost. In this case, Avallac'h chose to persuade, teach and protect Ciri, who was being pursued by Eredin, as a way to use her Elder Blood to stop White Frost once and for all. His initial attitude towarded her can be illustrated by a report from his lab in the game.
Tumblr media
more of Lara in her than I had ever imagined possible.
Cirilla was his for the taking
to regain her confidence and trust at any cost.
It was very obvious that this was a report written after Auberon's death and before he decided to go to protect Ciri. It was clear from the formulaic tone and wording of the report that he just saw her as a tool at this point, a tool that would solve the problems he was troubled with.
But feelings were unpredictable, the game presented a tension between them, and not simply just use, which made people imagine what on earth happened on their way to escape. It's just a shame that the story was left white, which was why people were surprised by Cirillac'h and couldn't believe the huge transformation between them. The Cirillac'h story in the game was a dark thread hidden beneath the surface, for the most part hinting at it. So, I'll go through the plot again to analyze what kind of thoughts and attitudes Ava, after returning from their escape, had towarded Ciri.
A: Ciri came for you. She sensed you were in danger, tore you from the Hunt's grasp, then deposited you in the woods near Kaer Morhen.
G: Did Eredin start hunting her because of that? Because of me? Why didn't she say anything?
A: Ugh. What would it have changed?
K: Come now, who aside from you would know that?
K:Well, we know they were well acquainted, and traveling together.
Tumblr media
Avallac'h knew Ciri very well, including not only some small details not related to stopping White Frost (Ciri's sword, mare's name), but also for Ciri's temper. Even Keira said nobody would knew these things except Geralt. He knew that Ciri did not want to tell Geralt it was his fault that she was targeted by Eredin, so this villain would be him to become, to tell him everything. What she did not want to say he would say for her. Moreover, he also understood that whether Ciri told Geralt about the matter or not, she would make the same choice. He also knew that one of Ciri's biggest weaknesses was Geralt. So when she was unhappy, he chose to let Geralt make her happy again.
Velen, probably - the mage opened a portal for her. Then he fought her attacker.
Although Avallac'h was still in a weakened state with the curse, but he still let Ciri escape first, he stayed behind to directly vaporize the Wild Hunt soldier who had wounded Ciri before. In such a critical situation, he still took the safety of Ciri as a priority. He had helped Ciri escape capture and had drawn his sword on his own people, which was a crime that could be prosecuted. He had made a great sacrifice to protect Ciri.
But you know how elves are - he asked many more questions than he answered.
You'll need to do neither. I'll give you a xenovox. It's a bauble that will let us speak over some distance.
Found it in the mine, along with the lamp.Thought it was part of the lamp at first. Didn't realize what I'd actually found until later.
When they were separated in Valen, Avallac'h found Keria and asked a lot of questions(where’s Ciri? Where’s Ciri? Where’s Ciri?). He was very worried about her. He made the very rare xenovox for communicating with Ciri at a distance when they were on the run. I assume he had been using this to communicate with the lost Ciri. After having no luck, he left it next to the magic lamp that he also gave up, left important messages for Ciri and then left Valen.
A:Don't stare, help me.Help us both.
G:Wait, so... you actually wound up there by accident? I thought you and Avallac'h had arranged something.

Ciri fell through the portal into the sea and it wasn't long before Avallac'h was finding Ciri and asking Skjall for help. Sage, who had been staying in his lab in Skellige, found Ciri seconds after she used her power, which was the same as setting a special ringtone on your phone and then answering it seconds after it rang, how worried were you about Ciri? He was speaking slowly and in a low voice at this point, in a very weak state, even to the point of asking for help from a human he depised. His curse was about to explode.
I know he probably found Ciri easier because he was familiar with the movement patterns of the Elder Blood. But was this bridal carry too close? And looking at the skilled posture, he must have done this more than once. In fact, he bridal carried her once more after this time. As a powerful elven sage with countless ways to keep her floating in the air, how could he possibly hate her when he chose to bridal carry her himself? To me, it's a proof that he valued her.
Ciri...Zireael...Can you hear me?

After they had been apart for almost two months, Avallac'h finally got Swallow back. He called her by her real name first, the first time in the entire game that he had called her by her real name in front of her. During his time in his lab, he had experienced for the first time what it was like to lose Ciri. Now that he's lost and found, and with the fact that Ciri was quite injured, I think he was a bit emotional at this point, which was why he can't help but call her by her real name first. His tone was soft and anxious.
In the original, Sage always called Ciri "Swallow", but in the game he started calling her by her real name, a shift that I suspect is as follows.
Just like when Ciri spent so much time in Tir ná Lia in the original that she unconsciously spoke of humans as dh'oine, it was a natural and subtle shift. For they did spend enough time together to change each other without realising it. Avallac'h also began to address Ciri like a human.
Avallac'h began to treat Ciri as an equal individual.
Ciri asked Avallac'h to call her by her human name.
Tumblr media
The Wild Hunt tracked down Ciri and the kind Skjall took Ciri to Drowned Dead Rock. When Ciri saw the danger Skjall was facing, she asked Avallac'h to help him, but they had their own trouble so Avallac'h immediately refused. As she kept pulling at him, he cast a spell to stun her, then quickly picked her up and put her in the boat. (bridal carry again!)If he had just used her as a tool, he could have just let her fall to the ground and found a way to throw her in once he was done with the boat.In an emergency, whenever he had a quicker alternative, he always chose to settle with bridal carrying her.

The most interesting thing to note from the video was that when Geralt asked UMA some questions, he was the most responsive to Ciri's question, despite turning into an UMA. The fact that the Uma curse has caused him to lose his mind and yet he was still unconsciously trying to express something in this situation shew that Ciri had touched his heart.
Her blood… Elder Blood… to open the gate. we can not, we can not allow this. In Skellige… Follow it… Into the mists. Hurry… Hurry!I tried to protect her… But the curse…
After the curse was lifted, his body was extremely weak and he was basically speaking in a breathy voice for the last few sentences, but at this point he still put Ciri first and worried about her well-being.
As I said earlier, he chose a different approach to stop White Frost, but he was also using Ciri. Only in contrast to Eredin, he was adopting a gentle policy. Many people totally disagree that he was obsessed with Ciri because of this-he was using Ciri. But I think it's possible to use Ciri and obsessed with her at the same time, there's no contradiction between the two. He gradually grew fond of her as he used her, and he kept fighting himself.
V:Violently twitching fingers, pupils that don't react to the light… Seen it many times before. Too many.
Y:Toxins have permanently damaged his nervous system. Even if he does pull through… Do you understand?
Ugliest Man Alive - The Uma Curse was meant to shame Avallac'h, and was reasonably speculated to be CDPR's sanction for his dark history. In the original, all the sorceresses who opposed Ciri leaving the Lodge of Sorceresses to find Geralt were killed off by CDPR in the game, leaving only one, Keria, who had helped Avallac'h inquire about Ciri and made a potion to delay the curse's outbreak, half dead. With this experience and the subsequent Trial of the Grasses, which caused permanent damage to his nervous system, Avallac'h pretty much paid off his black history debt in my opinion. He had paid enough cost. The equivalent of being dead once and reborn, he had given everything to protect Ciri.
Avallac'h - he prepared some special ointments for me.
These special ointments for scars had nothing to do with Ciri going to stop White Frost at all. We all knew Ciri hated this scar on her face, she was very happy her scar was a little healed by these ointments. If making a more realistic guess, it would be Avallac'h's gentle policy to win Ciri's trust,  a more sentimental guess would be that he cared for her or that he wanted to see more of Lara in her.

Yennefer's magic ran out of power to support the shield and White Frost magic swept across Kaer Morhen. Ciri's fellow defenders were frozen in place, and Vesemir, who had taught Ciri about how to become a Witcher, came close to killing herself to protect her. Caught in a state of utter helplessness and despair, Ciri faced the approaching Wild Hunt, lost control of her power and went straight into a rampage. Although the move forced back the almost victorious Wild Hunt army, the Kaer Morhen crowd was also affected, with Eskel's ears even beginning to bleed and Ciri herself about to have the energy backfire. The weakened Sage came online in this situation and single-handedly channeled the flow to control Ciri in his rampaging state, saving the day for everyone. I think the reasons why Avallac'h was able to take control of the situation so quickly are as follows.
He studied the Elder Blood for a long time and had the theoretical knowledge to face the unexpected situation.
When they fled, he had had the experience to solve this situation before.
His own magical power was powerful.
Even if there is nothing anyone can do, even if the situation is critical and bad, don't be afraid, I am here.
This episode visually demonstrates the unparalleled sense of security that Avallac'h brought to Ciri. I therefore can totally understand the same unparalleled trust that Ciri had in him.
Wait, she needs time. We must let her resolve her grief on her own.
When Geralt chose to go and see Ciri, Avallac'h stop him and explained why. This shows that he knew Ciri's temperament very well, probably better than even anyone else. He knew how to deal with all sorts of situations when Ciri lost her temper, which I suspect was the result of experience. You don't get yelled at much on the run,  do you? My dear Sage lol.
Discouraged after a mere eight attempts? Zireael…
Tumblr media
He knew her so well that he was aware that at this point Ciri probably did need an opportunity to vent her grief and anger, rather than just asking her not to think about what had just happened, so he quickly turned to Geralt for help. Ciri's comment about kittens and vanilla pudding was more figurative, and I suspect it was Avallac'h's suggestion that she should think about it to help her get over her pain and cheer up.
Sage sighed with an expression of only helplessness, not half-hearted impatience or disgust. Although he was largely expressionless, there were still some fleeting micro-expressions to refer to, and he never showed an expression of contempt for Ciri throughout the game.
You humans have… hm... unusual tastes.
Tumblr media
Avallac'h looked at the erotic pictures of the human with obvious hints of sex, and found a more neutral "unusual" from the pile of adjectives to keep it light. All of his drawings in his lab had missed the most obvious difference between human and elf appearance - the ears - and he had only drawn Lara/Ciri's face + Ciri's clothes, when he was still in a state of torn and self-fighting. But now, he was looking at a human erotic picture, no more elf (Lara) shade. He locked himself in his room and was finally able to let his guard down and faced his innermost thoughts when he was alone.
Later in the game he also only admited that he did feel superior to other races, but did not stop discriminating against humans as a result, so it was very unlikely that he specifically went to see the human erotic pictures. It was also very unlikely that he was attracted to the element in these pictures, as we knew from the original that the elven pornography was better than the human pornography. His reference to unusual tastes was an arrogant expression of a man who didn't want to show her real thoughts.
So I presume he was looking at these pictures to brainstorm scenes where Ciri was posed in this way. The episode implied that his self-fighting had slowly ended and started to surrender from the time when he decided to give up his obsession with Lara and went through the time of losing the news of Ciri - and started to allow himself to be sexually interested in the human (Ciri) body which (Ciri) was sexually attractive to him. Simply put, he had desire for her, which was the most straightforward expression of good feelings between a man and a woman.
G:Do you like my new model? Something of Lara Dorren about her, wouldn't you agree, Crevan?
A:Her height, perhaps. Nothing more.
Ge'els representd what Auberon, Eredin and almost all of the Aen Elle thought in the original, that the attributes of Lara in Ciri were basically nothing but green eyes, and not nearly as much as that in a random female elf. Avallac'h who knew Lara best, on the other hand, saw the strong Lara-ness in Ciri in the original (Worthy of her daughter), and he must have complex feelings everytime he saw Ciri. The portraits he drew in the lab implied that his memories of Lara were fuzzy in TW3, and his memory of Lara had indeed been confused by Ciri.
G:From the look of things, pretty soon Ciri won't need your help anymore.
A: Nor yours.
Tumblr media
When Geralt touched this sore point with Avallac'h - if Ciri succeeded in stopping White Frost - that's the end of their relationship. Ciri no longer needed his tutelage and protection, and he would no longer have a reason to be with her. He rebuttalled it immediately, waving his right hand with a very dismissive look and a wonderfully sour taste. Because even if Ciri didn't need Geralt's help, the relationship between them would always be there. Unlike Fox and Swallow, if no one was willing to compromise that relationship was dead.
I shan't force her to do anything, if that's your question.
Geralt was always a bit veiled and side-tracked in his conversations with Avallac'h. Avallac'h was quick to understand what he really want to ask. This response also showed that the current Sage would never use wordplay to force Ciri to do something she didn't want to do, just like that Ciri had told Geralt she would have a choice. He who intended to control the Grail (Ciri) in the original had now decided to let go.
You look at her and see a human, a ward, a daughter, even. I look and see the Elder Blood - a power that can destroy the world, a power that must be kept from Eredin's power-addled hands at all costs.
Geralt asked straightforwardly this time about Avallac'h's reason for helping Ciri. We all in God's perspective knew that Avallac'h's main purpose for helping Ciri was to stop White Frost with her power, but this was a secret that the two kept until the end. His explanation here was that he cannot let Eredin have a nuclear weapon (Ciri) that can destroy the world, which meant he was against Eredin invading other worlds.
This reply was also a self-referential one, with Avallac'h implying that he should treat Ciri as the researcher treats the descendants of the Elder Blood. On this point, the two were surprisingly consistent. Ciri said he's only interested in my power and nothing more; Avallac'h said I look at her like a nuclear weapon and nothing else. As a result, one hid in his room looking at erotic pictures and the other smashed up his lab when she saw his mistress. Surely the body is much more honest than the mouth?
When Geralt came back from helping Ciri smash the lab and asked Avallac'h again why he's protecting Ciri, he refused to show his feelings anymore. He could have said that he had to watch over (and protect) the nuke because she was so uncontrollable that the world would have been destroyed if she hadn't accidentally gone berserk. I didn't know that our dear Sage cared so much about the end of the world.
Earlier, when we were in the Isles together, Avallac'h mentioned a laboratory. At one point, he wished to teleport there… to retrieve something. And he refused to take me with him. It was all very strange…
First, @seinyacarol suggested that the two were almost inseparable, going everywhere together. So on the rare occasion that Avallac'h wouldn't take Ciri with him, she got suspicious. He was very honest in the game and didn't hide any of his petty thoughts (except for his affection for Ciri), answering all questions and requests, even though only Ciri trusted him.
Secondly, the reasons why he was reluctant to take her along are, I suspect, as follows.
Not wanting her to see the research material and family tree of the Elder Blood.
Not wanting her to see his mistress.
On the first point, Ciri had previously spoken to Geralt "he's just doing it for my powers, nothing else" and she had a clear perception of that. The two must have also had an open and honest conversation about the partnership, and she should have been psychologically built up accordingly to be a little more receptive. Since he knew her so well, he should have guessed that she knew this in her heart, so this reason should be less important.
Then, the key reason was the second point. They were just teachers and students, even if the teacher had a mistress at home, that was his private life and the student had no right to interfere. Why did you still not want her to see it? Because the existence of his mistress was an irony, an insult to their ambiguous relationship. And he obviously didn't want to see that happen.
Whichever reason it was, it will cause Ciri to drop her good opinion. The dialogue before the ending showed that Ciri had long been determined to stop White Frost, and there may be a layer of good feeling towards Avallac'h, but mostly she identified with her mission. Her dropping her crush on him wouldn't affect her eventual mission to stop White Frost, but it would seriously damage the relationship between the two of them.
That was the fundamental reason why he was reluctant to take her to the lab-He didn't want anything to ruin their relationship.
Tumblr media
It's definitely you. Hm, really captured you.Sure Avallac'h's only interested in you for your magic abilities?
He painted seven portraits in his laboratory. There are conflicting accounts of the portraits, so let me make one thing clear first: the original never mentioned Ciri's resemblance to Lara; the only thing she inherited was Lara's green eyes. In the game's setting, however, Ciri's features look similar to Lara's, but they did't look identical. On the basis of this, I have summarised and summarised three ideas:
He tried to portray Lara, but he had confused Lara and Ciri, so the portaits were of Ciri's look-alike.
He drew a Ciri with a healed scar, so the portrait was of Ciri's face.
He pretended he was drawing Lara, but was actually trying to draw Ciri, so the portrait was a Ciri lookalike.
Idea 1: "I won't let you take even the memories of her!" Isn't this a slap in the face for our Great Sage? You can't even remember Lara's face? Ciri's face is all that's in his head now! This is the most mainstream idea.
Idea 2:He made the ointment to heal Ciri's scars. In the original, Ciri's scars were horrific and disfiguring. In the game it has been refined into a linear scar - half healed. If the healing process continued, Ciri might be able to regain her original appearance. But instead of causing a disturbance in her appearance, Ciri's scar was a sign of her in TW3. If the scars were indeed fully healed, it's possible that Ciri had lost her best feature as well. I think this idea is less likely.
Idea 3:This is what I think. He had just taken the first step in saying goodbye to the past and reconciling with himself: he gave up the magic lamp in the Velen lab-he wouldn't communicate with Lara's ghost anymore since she remained silence. This phase in his lab in Skellige was when his self-fighting was at its most intense, and he was now thinking of Ciri, but he didn't want to admit it. He didn't draw the scar so that he could explain to others (himself) that he was not drawing Ciri, but Lara. And this was also the first reason Ciri denied it, believing that without the scar she was not her. Again, these two are surprisingly consistent in finding the same excuse.
Even if two people looked more alike, the senses couldn't be exactly the same. As separate individuals, there were subtle differences in eyes, expressions and temperament. As an adoptive father, Geralt was able to identify the girl in the paintings as Ciri at a glance, and even more directly questioned Avallac'h for having ambiguous thoughts about his daughter for he had saw Lara's statue before-he knew how Lara looked like and could tell the difference between Lara and Ciri's looks.
To spy on him? He tries to save you every time you do something stupid,  Isn't it enough?
It should surprise you to say this, but he's told me a lot about you.
He said your features resemble Lara's, but I don't agree, that comparison is like drinking from a mud puddle. But I think that belief helped his mission somewhat.
Do you think he follows you around just for the fun of it? Even I'm bored of seeing you.
She's not human, she's an inferior half breed. It's a shame that we have no choice but to submit to such things.
Well, the famous scene lab drama. This is also one of the most disagreed episodes. Because the words of the elfess confirmed that Avallac'h "hated" Ciri. ok, so I'm going to analyse this episode in my own interpretation.
The mistress had showed up before in the original. At the time, she was due to go on a boat ride with Avallac'h, but Ciri turned up and she had to give up her place. After Avallac'h had kissed her hand, she left, rolling her eyes at Ciri in defiance of her before leaving.
First, no matter how the elf described Avallac'h's hatred of Ciri: the stupid things she did, the fact that he help her because he want to use her, etc., at least one thing was clear: He talked about Ciri all the time, even when he was separated from her, in his lab with his mistress, he still said a lot about her. Contrast that with the fact that he found her as soon as Ciri came out of the portal, and that Sage was really thinking about Ciri all the time.
Secondly, considering that report I gave at the beginning about Auberon's death, he treated Ciri in the original as well as before the escape as if he were talking about a tool. Before the escape, he did have little affection for her, just as in the original, and was full of thoughts of use, which was what the elfess mentioned "to complete the mission". If his attitude had been the same as when he wrote the report, there would have been no need for the mistress to take on the "official" position of dealing with a "outsider" and just roll her eyes like in the original. There must have been a noticeable change in the tone and attitude of him when talking about Ciri, which made her realise that there was more to it than that. That's one reason of her jealousy.
Thirdly, He was under a curse and still drew seven portraits in a short period of time, averaging one in a few days, which was an alarmingly high frequency. Either he was talking to the elfess about Ciri or he was painting a portrait that looked suspiciously like Ciri. This lab, though Ciri never set foot in it, was everywhere: the family tree, the portraits, the Elder Blood research materials, even the chatter about her. When these two were alone, the "Ciri" content was too high. I think the female elf had a certain meaningful misunderstanding of her position. Seeing how arrogantly she provoked Ciri, I thought how close she was to Avallac'h. It turned out that when Geralt went to ask Avallac'h about it in a subsequent episode, his attitude was indifferent. He probably started off treating the female elf as a stand-in for Lara and now treated her as a stand-in for Ciri. One went for sex and one still went for love, which was why the female elf was even more jealous of Ciri. Because he hadn't even begun to have sex with Ciri before he was obsessed with her, and Ciri's Elder Blood that he was obsessed with was something she could never have.
Therefore, she was deeply jealous of Ciri. What she said was in doubt. Why was she so jealous? What explanation is there for a mistress being so jealous of another woman? Isn't this the most obvious evidence? Because she felt that her man had some special feelings for this woman, which gave her a sense of crisis.
The laboratory plot is a mirror version of the plot in the original “A Shard of Ice”. Yennefer (Avallac'h) had a long-term stablemate, Istredd (the female elf), whom she did't love, but he gave her security. That was, until she(he) met Geralt (Ciri) and she began to falter. On one side was true love that could bring harm, and on the other was stability that would always remain as it was. Yennefer eventually chose to break up even after Istredd offered marriage.
So, Geralt and Yen were quickly able to perceive the current relationship between Avallac'h and Ciri when they saw the female elf, and they both went to question him upon their return to the ship.
Y:Or maybe you're just obsessed with her?
A: I'm obsessed?
Having been in the same position as Avallac'h (with a long-term lover), Yennefer could empathise with him and make a rough guess as to what he was really thinking, despite the fact that they were torn for different reasons. So she guessed straight away that he was obsessed with Ciri.
If Avallac'h had no crush on Ciri at all, he would have simply answered "No" or dismissed it with "are you kidding". His response to this was a declarative sentence with a question mark. He said this line with a slowed tone, rising intonation and a fading voice, as if he was lost in thought. This indicated an uncertainty in the spoken language, a doubt about the self. Inwardly he was still reluctant to admit that he had indeed been obsessed with Ciri.
A:I pursued those studies to protect Ciri. To protect Lara Dorren's blood, in whomever's veins it courses.
G:Ran into someone at your lab.
A: Did you now?
G:Mhm. A she-elf. Claimed you hate Ciri. So how's that fit you trying to protect her, whatever the cost?
A: Not at all. You don't really expect me to confess my feelings to you,do you?
Tumblr media
When Geralt first mentioned the experiments with the Elder Blood, Avallac'h replied very calmly throughout. But when he mentioned they met a female elf, Avallac'h avoided Geralt's stare and turned his face to the side, his eyes drifting to hide the emotions inside. As a teacher with a student's parents, there was absolutely no need for him to be afraid to face them just because he had a mistress at home. Even if the female elf had spoken out despise of them, he didn't care what others thought of him at all, according to his earlier solitary nature. Therefore, his concern was due to the fact that their relationship was not just between a teacher and a student's parents, but that he had been "caught" by the parents of his ambiguous partner.
He thought that the female elf's claim that he hated Ciri was worthless "NOT AT ALL", and probably he thought that any statement made by the female elf was worthless and nonsensical. This showed that the elfess had a low status in his heart and had no feelings to speak of. All her statements were also of such low truth that there was no need to bring them up for discussion.
When confronted with Geralt's more subtle questioning, he refused to answer with a direct rhetorical question. What, do you expect me to tell you my FEELINGS? If he had no feelings for Ciri, he could have simply said I had no such thoughts. But his refusal to show his thoughts would suggest that he had at least some thoughts about Ciri. And when Yennefer asked earlier, he still doubted himself for a while, but at this point, after thinking about it, he simply refused to state it. I think he sensed his feelings, but he wouldn't admit it. He couldn't even get past himself, so how could he possibly talk to outsiders?
G:So maybe you're hoping to gain control of Lara herself? After all these years?
A: Lara is dead. My only hope is that Ciri will fulfill her calling and survive.
In the original, the tone of Avallac'h's voice changed in a flash as he gently and discreetly stroked the arm of Lara's statue, and now he was finally able to accept her departure with equanimity and honesty. "Lara is dead."This line was spoken in a calm tone, with no rise or fall in tone, and the look remained as it was, just a normal statement of fact. I think it showed that he had let go of his obsession with Lara and that he was now concerned with whether Ciri would survive stopping the White Frost.
Stopping the White Frost was what the female elf called completing the task. The task had been completed, so what did it matter to him whether the tool was dead or alive? If he really despised and hated Ciri, shouldn't he want her to die in place after stopping White Frost?  He couldn't have deliberately lied to gain Gerolt's approval, because Ciri had agreed to stop White Frost, and Geralt's low favourability towards him wouldn't have caused her to refuse to complete her mission. So this statement suggested that he sincerely wanted her to get out in one piece. After all these years, he had finally come out of the past and changed the target of his concern from the virtual Lara to Ciri before him.
Oh, yes… the Elder Blood can be fiery.
Avallac'h rejected the idea of Ciri going into battle and asked her to stay on the shore, but Ciri never failed to verbally whine while acting on her own whims and ignoring his requests completely. After Ciri's tantrum, he not only didn't get impatient but helped her with all the excuses - not her problem, the Elder Blood were all like that.
Gealbhan was a Sage of the Alder Elves. He fell in love with an Aen Seidhe elf - Dillian. Yet she spurned him.On the day the White Fleet was to set sail, Gealbhan gave Dillian a gift - the Sunstone. He believed Dillian's heart would soften in time.Once her longing for him burgeoned, she was to use the Sunstone. Though worlds away, he would return for her.
The plot of the Sunstone legend alludes to Avallac'h's feelings for Lara and his willingness to come for her even if he was thousands of miles away when she returned to him, but Lara died and ended up loving Cregennan, so this old love letter was useless. In the lore, Gealbhan (Avallac'h) died of depression because he didn't get a response from Dillian (Lara). I think this might be one of the parallel worlds where he ended up, but not this time.
C: "I give you my heart?" What kind of a spell is that?
A:It's an old love letter. Ancient. As I said, this stone was to reunite a pair of lovers.
youtube
This time, Avallac'h handed this old love letter-sunstone to Ciri, which was reciprocated by Ciri. The two, nearing the end, "confess" to each other in such a wonderful way. He spoke this line in a soft, slow tone, leaning towards Ciri while holding the sunstone and looking at her, as if he were speaking from his heart by explaining the sunstone - this is an old love letter from me to you.
Tumblr media
He looked deeply into the mind of Ciri, who was next to him, and what was going through his mind at that moment? I have a couple of guesses.
She was about to defy his orders once again and took the fight into her own hands. He was worried about her.
If she insisted on killing the enemy herself, he would have to think about what advice to give.
Based on their ensuing conversation, he was torn between his two apprentices.
Tumblr media
Ciri did want to take on the battle herself, and Avallac'h first used the excuse that she had not yet fully mastered her power to persuade her to stay. After being rebuffed by her, he knew she would really have to face the enemy alone this time, and called out Ciri twice in a row to stop her, each time with a more intense tone. This was also the second time in the game that he had called Ciri by her real name directly in front of her, and he looked serious and emotional at this point, desperate for her to stay. After another unsuccessful attempt to dissuade her, he made the choice to sacrifice his apprentice (adopted son) Caranthir to ensure Ciri's safety. This decision was in fact a difficult one. He felt great regret and pain at the fact that Caranthir had followed Eredin and that he had feelings for the apprentice.Despite this, he still chose Ciri.
Tumblr media
Ciri finally left, and Avallac'h finally allowed himself to take off his mask of disguise, and for the first time he showed such a sad expression. What was he thinking at this point? I suspect the reasons for his sadness were as follows.
For the first time since their escape, he was not accompanied and Ciri went to face the enemy alone, and he feared that she would be harmed.
Lamenting the fact that his two apprentices were fighting with swords.
regret for the fate of Caranthir.
Tumblr media
The empty dock, snow in the air, nothing but silence, he stood alone. The hood hided most of his face, making it impossible to really see his expression. He looked down at the calm surface of the lake, was he also calm inside?
This Real Time Rendering was eight seconds long and it revealed his extremely mixed feelings at the moment. He was not an elf without emotions, he was just good at disguising himself.
With all this analysis, I think Avallac'h definitely didn't hate Ciri. He might not love her, but he had an obsession, a crush or even a desire for her. Although Ciri's feelings were more obvious in this relationship, he was internally more dependent on Ciri's company. The pain of being alone all the time was doubled by the loss of the long-lasting companionship he had gained before, and he actually need her more.
It was only when he had developed a fondness for Ciri that he could finally understand what his Lara once thought, that he could say goodbye to the past and reconcile himself with his fate. When he tried to control the Grail(Ciri), it abandoned him; when he was willing to let go, it flew back to him of its own accord. This relationship is also a kind of character growth for him and this theme is also in keeping with the original "There is always something more than fate".
